3-3-26 PrepMania Weekly - Girls Tournament Shake-Up + WIAA’s Melissa Gehring Joins

The first weekend of the girls basketball tournament gave us separation.
Statements were made. Runs ended. And the field narrowed.
Tonight on PrepMania Weekly, we break down everything from opening weekend — starting with Division 1 Sectional 3, where:
Madison La Follette survived Kettle Moraine before falling to Brookfield East
Mukwonago controlled Verona in a 16-point win
Madison Memorial knocked off Waunakee and continues to look composed and balanced
In Division 2, Edgewood and Milton didn’t just win — they dominated. Beaver Dam made its statement. In Divisions 3 and 4, Lakeside Lutheran keeps rolling, Luther advances, and Platteville survives a tight one.
The tournament is doing what it’s supposed to do — clarifying who’s built for March.
🎙 Special Guest at 6:15 PM
WIAA Assistant Director Melissa Gehring joins the show as this season marks the 50th anniversary of the Girls State Tournament. We’ll talk about the growth of the game, what this milestone means, and the experience awaiting teams at state.
Then we recap the latest Pizza Hut Power Rankings:
Girls Top 10
Madison Memorial moves to #1 after the weekend. Edgewood and Beaver Dam are trending upward. La Follette drops to 7 after Friday’s loss. The middle tier tightens as tournament pressure builds.
Boys Top 10
Middleton climbs to #1 with Memorial right behind. Mount Horeb is rising. McFarland slips after a setback. The field remains tight heading toward tournament time.
We close with PrepMania On Deck — a fast-paced look ahead at key sectional matchups, potential rematches, Memorial’s path, a possible Edgewood vs. Milton collision, and one upset watch.
Rankings tighten. The bracket shrinks. March is here.
