OVER DEZE AFLEVERING
Dickon the Devil by J. S. Le Fanu
Stir the coals and settle into the shadows. In this episode of Hearthside Horrors, we journey to the cursed estate of Barwyke to confront J. S. Le Fanu’s chilling tale, Dickon the Devil.
When our narrator arrives at a sprawling, desolate manor to manage a wealthy estate, he is warned of a sinister presence that wanders the grounds. But the true nightmare begins when he comes face-to-face with the spectral figure of Dickon—a former servant driven to madness, who now haunts the estate's shadows with a terrifying, otherworldly malice.
Before we walk the haunted grounds, our original introduction explores Le Fanu's masterful use of rural isolation, how Victorian society viewed the terrifying intersections of madness and the supernatural, and the enduring dread of the neglected English manor.
Audio features high-fidelity synthetic narration.
