OVER DEZE AFLEVERING
Extra Time: La Vuelta Show | Stage 20 | Mikel Landa's Redemption Win, Sepp Kuss's Heroic Charge & the Podium Locks In
Jonathan, Nicole, and David break down the queen stage of the 2026 Vuelta a España — arguably the wildest day of the entire race — as Mikel Landa delivers a career-capping stage win, Sepp Kuss mounts a genuinely heroic charge for King of the Mountains, and the final GC podium officially locks into place.
🏆 Mikel Landa's Long-Overdue Win
After years as a domestique for Chris Froome, Remco Evenepoel, and others — and a career pelvis fracture along the way — Landa bridges a two-minute gap solo, drops his breakaway companions, and rides away for a genuinely emotional stage win. All three hosts, longtime fans, are thrilled to see a rider who's helped everyone else finally get his own moment.
⚡ Sepp Kuss's Heroic King of the Mountains Bid
Wout van Aert drills the pace from kilometer zero specifically to help pace Kuss into contention, closing a massive gap before Kuss launches his own attack. He briefly threatens the polka-dot jersey and jumps to 5th overall — but the gap proves too large. The hosts dissect a genuine "what if": had Richard Carapaz waited to attack until after Kuss got clear (instead of forcing the peloton to shut down both moves simultaneously), Kuss might have actually pulled it off.
📉 A Broadcast Blind Spot
A real complaint from all three hosts: a 50-plus rider group containing major names — Buitrago, Visma and Decathlon domestiques — got zero camera coverage for most of the stage, leaving fans with no idea where key riders like Oscar Onley actually were on the road.
🏔️ The Final Climb Debate
Felix Gall attacks with 4K remaining but the hosts agree — a couple kilometers earlier and it might have actually threatened Roglič's second place. Instead, Mas and Roglič calculate there's nothing left to lose and ride within themselves to the line.
🏆 The Podium Is Set
Mas takes the overall red jersey, Roglič finishes second, Gall third. Van Aert claims the points jersey, Buitrago the King of the Mountains, Onley the white jersey, and Decathlon the team classification.
➡️ Stage 21 Preview
The ceremonial finale into Granada — but not so ceremonial this year, featuring a genuinely technical, Montmartre-style hilltop finish. The hosts debate whether it's Wout's day or Brennan's, and question the safety of running non-traditional GC-neutral finishes on narrow, technical courses.
