From Silent Scribbles to Spotlight: How Leah Vidal Carrosquilla Empowered Teen Boys Through Story

What if the story you were afraid to speak… was the one someone desperately needed to hear?

In this raw, radiant, and revealing first-ever podcast interview, I sit down with writer and first-time speaker Leah Vidal Carrosquilla (aka Little Miss Wordy), author of Light Up the Sky—a 365-day devotional crafted for young male athletes craving strength, faith, and self-worth in a world full of noise.

But Queen, this episode is so much more than a chat about publishing a book. It’s a behind-the-scenes breakdown of what it means to transform personal grief into global impact. Leah takes us on an intimate journey from coffee chats with her late mom to hearing God’s nudge to "write the dang thing" for her son—when nothing else on the shelves spoke his language.

You’ll hear how one teacher’s words nearly crushed her writing dreams—and how her own storytelling superpower resurrected them. We explore identity, healing, and what happens when you stop hiding behind the page and start owning your voice (even in a Mad Hatter costume, yep!).

If you’ve ever doubted your right to be heard, THIS is your sign to speak your truth—out loud.

🎧 Press play and let this episode be the permission slip your soul’s been waiting for.

Leah couldn't find a devotional designed specifically for teenage boys who are athletes—so she wrote one.
📝 Her son’s offhanded comment ("This is cool, Mom") sparked a realization: boys need spiritual guidance too, but it must be designed for how they think and feel.

Takeaway: Sometimes, the solution you're searching for is the one you're meant to build.

💔 2. Grief Can Be the Gateway to Purpose

Leah started writing again after losing both her mother and brother. The absence of their morning coffee chats became an ache that eventually transformed into a devotion practice with God—and that daily habit opened the floodgates of healing and creativity.

Takeaway: Heartbreak often births the most honest, impactful stories—when we let ourselves write through it.

📚 3. A Single Comment Can Silence… or Ignite

A high school English teacher told Leah she wasn't “cut out to be a writer.” That one sentence silenced her voice for years. But eventually, through blogging and journaling, she reclaimed it—and published a book.

Takeaway: Be mindful of what you believe about yourself. Even outdated judgments can shape your future—until you rewrite the script.

🎙️ 4. You Don't Have to Be a “Speaker” to Be Heard

Leah identified as a writer, not a speaker. But this podcast became her first public speaking platform—and she nailed it by showing up with her authentic voice and storyteller’s heart.

Takeaway: You don’t need to be polished. You just need to be present. Your story will do the heavy lifting.

🧠 5. Specificity is What Makes Storytelling Transformational

Kimberly praised Leah’s natural ability to speak in vivid, scenic detail. From Halloween parties to Mad Hatter costumes, her stories placed the listener right in the moment.

Takeaway: Great storytelling isn't about adding drama. It’s about specificity—painting the picture so others can see themselves inside it.

🛠️ 6. Purpose Evolves—Let It

What started as a personal gift for her son and his teammates became a published devotional. The initial vision changed, and the timing wasn’t “perfect”—but it unfolded better than she ever planned.

Takeaway: Trust that divine detours are part of the strategy.

👑 7. Moms Don’t Just Birth Babies—They Birth Movements

Leah’s identity as a mother became a superpower in her work. Her nurturing nature, her wisdom, her protection—all flowed into her writing.

Takeaway: Your life roles are part of your brand power. Use them.
