Plastic surgery, Cancel culture, an AI Art Auction

a question for you. Yes.
If somebody just gave you 300, 000, what would you do? Oh, that's a very good question. I love playing this game. It's a bit depressing when it's done, but okay. I would redo my house.
I would renovate. I would do new lighting. I would do You really need to change the lighting. I really do. But it's so expensive. It's not that expensive. It is. Here's the thing, though. Other things bump it. The in floor heating died, so we had to replace the in floor heating.
Or there was, like, a bubble in the ceiling. That bumped down lighting.  We gotta get you on Marketplace or something, you can get really nice lights, and your lights are not nice.
I'm sorry, I don't like your lights. You know what, I came for your couch a few episodes ago, and I feel like now you're coming for my lights as payback. They're not my favourite. No, mine either. When we bought the place, we were like, these people were swingers.
Oh, why? Because everything lights up and everything's neon and everything's LED and there's Oh, I do remember those funny lights. Oh my god. I've only been to your house once, I think. Hell, I'm glad I made an impression. It did.  So I'd redo the house and then I think I would take a big fat vacation and I would bring my family and bring my loved ones and do an all inclusive for 10 days.
And it would be like a five star. Let's do it. I was thinking about this on the way in because I knew I was going to ask you the question.
I love all the trips and stuff, I love doing that, but honestly what I would really want to do is replace a lot of my jewelry.  We got robbed about ten years ago, and they took all of my jewelry. You got robbed? Yeah. Sorry, that just took a minute to hit in. Yeah, it was really sad.
That's so violating. It was very violating. They were so kind, they left our passports.  Really? It's cleared. Everything else but like obviously looked at the passport and we're like, meh, but yeah, it was really violating and I had some really nice jewelry my all my wedding jewelry was in there my wedding ring or my engagement ring I should say but also some of my mom's jewelry from when she was a teenager I had a grandfather's ring in there.
I had a grandmother's ring in there. those are pretty irreplaceable. Yeah. I guess I just want to re inject family heirlooms. And maybe I would go to some of the great  jewelry stores and weave someone else's history
ours
That's so sad. To have lost,  no, but to have lost those pieces, that means so, so much. Yeah, my engagement ring was
I would spend some money on that, I think. Yeah.
How
much money? Would you spend the full 300, 000 on jewelry? No. No. No, that's obscene. I'll tell you what I wouldn't spend it on, is plastic surgery. There's a woman who spent 300, 000 on plastic surgery. On herself. She had 300, 000 to spend on plastic surgery?
Yes, and we're going to talk about her today, but first we're going to do our intros. Oh yeah, our intros. Yeah, you know where you are.  📍 Welcome to your weekly breakdown, the silly and occasionally smart podcast. I'm Emily, a washed up tech exec, mother of two,  really leaning into that escapism. Lately.
We have a few weeks left till spring, and we're gonna make it, folks. We can do it. I believe in you, and I believe in us. I'm Caitlin, and I'm trying.  I'm trying. I'm fucking trying. Are you actually trying? No,  I am trying, and I'm just, it's so hard. What's  Waking up and trying.  What are you trying for?
I'm trying to be present. Oh, that's very daunting. I'm trying to wake up with energy. Are you still meditating? Yeah, I'm trying. She's trying. She's trying. I'm trying. The other day I was trying to meditate and I was  forever. Usually it's 15 minutes, and I'm in my meditation being like, this can't be.
It, this is so long. I hate this. And then I  open one eye  to look down at my timer. Didn't ever started the timer. I've just been sitting there and I was so mad. I was like that was a waste. Oh no.  Oh, you're having a hard time. Oh, every week we get together to chat about cultural conversations and the news.
We make fun of the latest pop culture dramas. We'll judge each other's style and life choices and rant about life's minor inconveniences.
This podcast is brought to you by Hard Copy, the free comfort newsletter for cozy weekends.  the thousands of busy women who already subscribe to enjoy curated recommendations for what to watch, listen to, read, and indulge in, and to stay in the know on all things culture, work, and women. If you can't stand listening to Caitlin and I, that is a great alternative.
You can get that at hardcopy. online. 📍  who Okay, this bitch spent 300, 000,  but she wrote a book about it. So Huh. She's gonna make I was looking at my own breasts. Huh. Wonder what I could do. Nah.  What did she do? Okay, so she did so much.
And she wrote a book about it. Which will sell, people don't talk about their plastic surgery, people don't even tell you, they won't even admit that they're   doing stuff to their face  people are,  I'll say this eloquently.
Are we liars? People are liars. People are liars. They're like, I've just been lifting weights at the gym. You're like yeah. I just got my hormones under control. Yeah, that's why your nose looks like that. So she, is an author now. She's an influencer. She's had over 25 plastic surgery procedures. And she's sharing the ones she regrets.
Sandra Lena Silverman.  Maybe you've heard of her memoir. It's called From Bullshit to Botox. She was documenting her quest for eternal youth, which sounds a lot like Brian Johnson. She's just going about it in a different way. Hers is much more aesthetic versus the biomarkers.
And now she's a bit older, and so she's also advising younger women Great. against what to do and not to do. Love that. So she spent 300 grand she's going to make all that money in her book. I would guess. I think a lot of people will buy this book.
People are curious because, like we said, people don't talk about it. She says she's tried it all   she says the mini facelift was worth it.
She did that at 47. She advises people to avoid filler in your 20s and 30s. She says anything that removes fat or stretches out your skin is not good for
Don't do the Y lift. The hell if I know what the Y Lift is. Y Lift.
It's like a sculpting lift using filler, which would be hyaluronic acid. She said the first time she did it was great and then it was not good.  advises you to do your research before rhinoplasty or breast augmentation. Fuck yes, do your research. If you're going to go and do any cosmetic procedure, please do so much research.
Talk to different people. A, the amount of money you're going to spend. If you were going to go buy something that costs that much money, you would do a lot of research. Research before you do it. Yeah, I'm guessing a nose job is like 20, 000. You're asking the idea  I would love to straighten my nose, but then I'm like nah like I care and then I then and I Don't care.
Yeah,  I don't hate the idea of a lift in my late 40s a little neck. Oh my god I was lower face one of our clips. I was editing to put on socials and  the way I was sitting was like this and there was like A fold of neck? And I was like, what the fuck is that? I think it must be awful for people who are on camera all the time.
You and I don't want to be on camera. We do this so that people will find our podcast, right? That's why we make the video clips. We don't want to be on camera. You tricked me. You said we're doing a podcast and then there were cameras here. I did trick you.
She talks about her breast implants, she talks about peels she talks about Lashes, microblading, and  permanent makeup are worth it.
I would disagree on the permanent makeup. I wouldn't do that. I think that sounds so fucking scary. I'm saying that and then I'm like, we're talking about getting a lift. So it's it's such a funny thing to even consider. But permanent makeup is a tattoo on your face. Yes. And that I think is the part that I don't trust.
Yeah, so I had my Eyebrows microbladed. They looked so good for two years and then they fade.  So they look more grey. And then you gotta go get them removed.
hurts to get tattoos  You had to get the microblading tattoo removed? Yeah, the colour totally warped. So how did you get it removed?
It's very painful. just get the Glossier Boy Brow Gel. Like, when you're going out,  or tint them. Or go to the brow bar and have someone thread your eyebrows and tint them. I can't thread. I think painful.
I don't do anything to my eyebrows now. You don't? No. And they're turning white.  god. I know. They're turning into a whisker white. Like  grandpa's eyebrows? That's what's happening to my eyebrows. Little caterpillars. Ugh.  Anyway, so this lady also advises you, you'll get a kick out of this one. Don't do liposuction on the knees.  Don't do li I didn't even think about it. Now you're going to make me think about doing liposuction on my knees.
Because why? Again, people don't like this, but I really think if a woman wants to do it and she has the means to do it,  go nuts. And, yes, I support that. She says a mini tummy tuck will yield great results. She had one, but then she had to tighten the skin. It was a six hour procedure.
And she had drains for nine days. She said she doesn't regret it. She doesn't. No.  Obviously this woman has made a business. and a whole persona around adjusting her body and face. And she says vaginal reconstruction was the most painful.   She says her full vaginal reconstruction wasn't cosmetic because her uterus was falling low after the birth of her son. So  needed it. Yep. She's the most painful thing she's ever gone through a For sure. . I'm going to read some of the comments because this is what we put up with anytime we put stuff on the internet. Yeah.
So Barb, I love this. Barb says, imagine being so insecure in vain that you put yourself through torture. I don't like the message that she has sent to her daughter and I feel sorry for her and I won't buy her book because even if I was interested, I'm not going to pay for those surgeries.  Barb.
Okay, thanks. Misty says there's the issue with what she's teaching her daughter about self worth and appearances, but imagine what her son is learning about the value of
All that work and still getting divorced. Plastic surgery doesn't keep a man. Be natural and normal.
have nothing to say to that. I have,  I don't understand the need to go online and just be nasty. Yeah, that's what people do. They're just being nasty. Yeah, a lot of people. Also, as though the goal is to stay married. Maybe she wanted to get a divorce.  But also, like we said, people didn't take kindly to us being like, women do whatever the fuck you want.
First of all, women do whatever the Fuck you want. Yes. Fully stand by that. And on the flip side of that, stop telling women what to do.  She's not the only person. This is a billion dollar industry.  You know, celebrities and folks out there that probably Barb looks up to.
I've had multiple surgeries and get, aesthetic treatments done and shut the fuck up. Plastic surgeons are rolling in money. Yeah, and I think it's hilarious because it's demonized. Yeah, and you're right. It's kept secret. It's this taboo thing to say don't you look refreshed?
No they've had. Plastic surgery, and I think that should be owned, or If they own it, they get shit like this. Because I think people think it's like cheating. That's not fair, you're cheating. This woman is owning the shit out of it. And is helping people understand, who are interested.
understand pros and cons. I find this conversation really interesting. I remember once I had a friend  she got breast implants. And I,  why? And she said, because I wanted to. And I was like, Oh, duh. Who?  Fuck me. Sorry. Yeah. What a stupid reaction I had.
But it is a huge decision to make and it is surgery. So I think I understand why you would say, Oh did you need it? Or was it like surgery seems scary to me. Yeah. So when I hear that someone had elective surgery, I wonder oh was it like important? Did you really need it? Because I would be too scared to do it.
Here's the thing. To conclude. A woman takes flack for wrinkles, aging, looking frumpy, letting herself go, oh, she doesn't put herself together, and a woman takes flack for actually owning it and doing shit and wanting to go about her life aesthetically, or she spends too much money on clothes, or she thinks she's better than us because she dresses a certain way.
Guys, we can't fucking win, so do what it is you want to do. I really believe that. And people are like, Oh, but women aren't doing it for themselves. No, because you're going to comment on it anyway, bitch. You're going to fucking tear her down anyway.
I like that. Yeah. That's actually encouraging for me to hear too, because it's a good reminder that either way, someone's going to comment on it. Either way, you're going to be put down, criticized. So who cares? Yeah, who cares? Who cares?  Everyone seems to hate women these days.
I boo that. I say boo to that. I
obviously.
we're booing that. I've been booing a lot of things. What do you mean booing?  out loud, just like, boo. Yep.  Really? Yeah. Yeah. Because we were talking about booing a few weeks ago, about how we're watching the hockey game and spectators were booing.
that Is our voice at a game. I realized that I've also been doing it in life.
like to start a new segment called, What You Boo. I want you to know what I booed this week.
There was a, commercial on TV for nighttime pads. Like for period pads. Incontinence. Oh, like period pads. Yeah. And I just started booing it.  And I was like, that's bullshit! Boo!  You're wrong! I was getting really angry at this. Because they were like, this nighttime pad is just everything you need, and you'll sleep through the night.
And I was like, no you won't.  No you won't. It's not gonna be enough. And also, they tell you to put it one way, but actually if you flip it, it works better. And I was heckling and booing this commercial. Okay,
you're fucking losing it. But here's the thing, I was booing it because brands like always, Kotex, Stayfree, Carefree, Seventh generation. All the CEOs are men for the record. Actually? Yeah. That shocks me none, actually. Never mind. They're all, it's, John Moeller, John Su, Joaquin Duardo, Rod Little.
it's a joke. So I was booing it because also it's not true. it was a bullshit commercial and I, felt really good about it. So I encourage people to boo things more often. Don't get punched. If you boo someone face to face. Good advice.  Boo.
Boo away. Let people know that you're dissatisfied. Okay, so sometimes I don't have a filter and I say things out loud. Yeah. I think we've discussed before, sometimes when people are moving really slowly in front of me, I'll say, Peep  Which now my children do. You're welcome, society.
That's really sweet though. Peep Peep. It's also  rude if you think about it, but it's universal. People know what I mean.  What's it called when the word is the sound?
just learned something new today. Say it again. Okay, an automatopoeia. that's one of those words I've read.
Yeah. But didn't, okay. So it's like oink.
Beep Beep. Cuckoo. The word is the sound. What I would have booed this week, it's raining outside, you're walking on the sidewalk, people with the umbrellas are under the awning.
That's not right. If you have the umbrella, don't walk under the awning. I don't have an umbrella. I'm gonna go under the awning. Awning is for the non umbrellas?  someone does it, I'm just gonna look at them and go, Boo!  Boo! Boo! That would be so mean. Okay, maybe the sidewalk thing isn't worthy of a person. I don't think we should boo at a person. But you can boo at a behavior.
Yeah, but the person's not gonna distinguish between that. They're just gonna think I'm booing at them. That's not my problem. That's again, a convenient way of getting out of any accountability, Kaitlyn. I have accountability, but I'm also a bit punky. I think you have to be courteous and aware that other people are on this planet. I agree. I think we've lost a lot of that. Let's blame the phones, because that's my favorite thing to blame.
Shout out to knix. They have my favorite period underwear by far. the first few days of my period, I I wear the. Big ass granny
Knicks, period
as like an added layer.
I'm a diva cup gal with a backup pad. We've talked about this. could not, the cup didn't, I don't know.
Some people can't. It's too much. It didn't work.  It doesn't fit in my vag the right way. If you did want a company though for menstrual, Products that is clean ingredients gynecologist approved, made by women. Lola.  You ever heard of Lola? Lola is a Lola is a character in the children's book that Brianna and I are publishing.
Oh really? Yeah. I like that name, Lola. Do you know what else? I want to boo. We're going to boo here today. She's angry, guys.  I boo  Boo. Sounds like a given. Misogyny  is 2025's biggest trend. It's trending? Like it's picking up steam?
Sure fuckin is.
Hate that. Every day there's another viral example of misogynistic rhetoric actions, or just like general controversy. And we're just finishing the second month of the year. If you feel it, this is me assuring you you're not imagining it. Yep. If you haven't noticed, I'd love that for you. I notice it because I have to run social media accounts. Whew, buddy,  We hear things like, whatever context you take it in, I don't really care.
Mark Zuckerberg the Joe Rogan podcast, there was a lawmaker in the states who proposed offering tax breaks for patriarchal covenant marriages.  Cute. On Fox and Friends,  one of the anchors made denigrating comments about women in combat even  outgoing president Biden, he gave a pretty limp endorsement of the Equal Rights Amendment. It's just been like one thing after the other. What else can I tell you? Oh, Trump's executive order establishing two biological sexes also codifies fetal personhood,
so by What's fetal personhood?
Identifying a fetus as a person so that if a woman has an abortion, that would be murder.  Huh. in the slew of firings that Trump has executed, he also fired the head of the U. S. Coast Guard, who is the first woman to lead that branch of the military.
All of his executive orders have been very anti women. Okay, so those are like the actual big, cultural headlines, political headlines. But go into any comment section, under anything,  the vitriol toward women is unbelievable. Men are speaking up more about their loathing of women and I think women are speaking up about their loathing of women.
Women can also be misogynists. Yeah. I'm not gonna go deep onto the Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni  lawsuit, but the internet hates Blake Lively. they measure the two against different Bars. And it's very frustrating to read and to watch, especially because nobody fucking is a lawyer.
The only person who I listen to talk about that is a lawyer Reb Maisel. she takes a position that we should address this by just making fun of misogynists. Laughing, yeah. Laugh at them. There's a piece in Glamour
Rab
Reb Masel actually is quoted in it, along with a few other  Notable women in internet culture, not just influencers.
Rab is a lawyer, to be clear. Oh, I like that. Yeah, like these are smart women who use social media in my opinion, to empower and inform. Some of my favorite quotes, In general I think embarrassment with men is a very powerful tool. And any way that you can embarrass them, whatever that looks like for you, and playing to your strengths, is always incredibly effective.
One woman said douchey men already perceive us as stuck up and mean, so we may as well show them what mean really is at this point, lean in. This is what I'm all for booing in public. And it's the same old con, right? Doubling down on ugly, misogynistic, racist lies as a substitute for real ideas and solutions.
That will actually make people's lives better. That is the thing. There's never like a smart argument that goes along beside that kind of stuff. what this article is saying is, you remember Michelle Obama was like, when they go low, we go high. Yes. These women, these intelligent women are saying, fuck that.
When they're going low, fucking fight back. It's time to fight. It's time to be mouthy back. Yeah. Don't turn the other cheek. Yeah. You don't need to rise above it. One perspective I thought was really interesting drew Afualo, who's a creator who has quite a big brand on TikTok. She said, I don't believe that just because I identify as a woman, I have to tiptoe around men's feelings when they don't give a fuck about mine.
that sat me back because I was like, Oh, that's so true. We're like, Oh,  dive into it. I don't want to like have conflict. No, fuck that. Yeah. I'm, I like conflict. that's like when Grimes went on Twitter. and said to Elon Musk let me see my kids and answer back to my lawyer.
This is insane. And then he went and deleted those tweets. Oh, I'm sure he did. But the idea of being like, no, I'm going to fight in public. The idea that women who are educated, who are smart, who are successful, three things we're not that they would, just kidding, that they, that we wouldn't use  that intellectual prowess, to clap back at people who are loudly ignorant or abusive or just angry online.
It's crazy. We absolutely should be clapping back. Yeah. this is my favorite quote from Reb. We've allowed people like that to exist for so long under the guise of free speech or under the guise of, ooh, we can try to educate them. If people don't want to be educated, they're not going to be.
So we might as well make what they are something that is intolerable in our society and that isn't a repression of their free speech or the marketplace of ideas.
She's
so smart.  It's about making fun of them. I think that's what works. It was Julia Louis Dreyfus who gave the quote of just laughing in someone's face is probably the best defense.
And not laughing mocking, but laughing oh, yeah, that's good. You're funny. It's funny. And then walking away. Because also, I can't waste my time having to be like, that wasn't actually okay what you did and I have to talk to you about it. Oh my god, it's exhausting. Yeah. Trying to explain it away.
We're all going down with the ship. We might as well be fucking hilarious while we do it. I love that. Yeah. And what? They're gonna cancel us? You can't cancel. No, same thing. I don't think cancel culture is real. It's not.
you agree? I don't. Did I say something you agreed with? I, Emily, I'm obsessed with you. Stop it. I don't believe in cancel culture. This is something that is a newer term, The term cancel culture came into circulation in the late 2010s and early 2020s. The term call out culture is used sometimes for the same concept. Thank you, Wikipedia. I like that.
So it is a newer term. The idea of cancel culture is that the goal, I think, was that it allowed for accountability, especially when the legal system was falling short. However, that is not what has happened. That's not what happened. And unfortunately,  it gets very heated very quickly when someone gets quote unquote cancelled.
Yeah, and it's a bunch of people behind their screens who have no actual understanding of what's going on. When you talk about cancel culture, it originally started as men being called out for bad behavior. Yes. And, men saying, oh all it takes is an accusation and my career's ruined forever.
And I just look at what happens to women when they make an accusation. And their careers were in for it. Like, why would you even fucking say anything? I don't think Amber Heard will ever work again.  No. No. And people listening to this will be like, We love Johnny Depp, fuck Amber Heard! But also, Johnny Depp's doing fine.  One of the first cancellations I remember was Chris Brown. He's a musician who was dating Rihanna. Again, he beat her black and blue. He still goes on tours, guys. He physically assaulted her. In 2009, It was a very severe, aggressive assault. And yet he is still managed to revive his music career. He's still releasing albums, and he has a huge fan base. Louis C. K. was one of those people  He had allegations of sexual misconduct.
He was exposing himself to other comedians and stand ups, like in The Green Room. Oh. Yeah. But don't worry. In 2022, he won a Grammy Award for his comedy album. This is crazy. And then you think about how about Kevin Hart? He had those tweets that came out that were incredibly racist from years ago.
And he was supposed to host the 2018 Oscars? And then they removed him? He's doing fine. He's doing fine. feel like Kevin Spacey's not doing fine. No one's like letting him bounce back. You're right, Kevin Spacey. Like he's trying, . He's still the butt of the joke. It won't be forever based on the trend. Like he'll be fine at some point. They made a Kevin Spacey joke at the SNL 50th.  they? Yeah. And it was like, ha ha, and everyone went, oh yeah, Kevin Spacey, but no one went, oof, Kevin Spacey.  So I think he'll be fine.
I also think if there was some sort of public apology, some sort of accountability. Oh, but there's so many bad public apologies. I know, but I want a genuine one.  What's genuine, though? People can give the most genuine explanation on the internet, an apology, and I atone, and I acknowledge this, Is the internet's going to internet? Yes. People are going to be like, That's fake. They're bullies.  I know that they will say that. But in my mind, in my heart, if someone is able to make a public apology, take accountability, step away, then they don't have to be cancelled. They can't come play anymore.
But they don't have to be cancelled. who's actually been cancelled that has never come back? Probably because they were in jail. R. Kelly. Yeah. But that's because he's in jail. Soon to be Diddy. Interesting. So I wonder if it does come down to like, it wasn't proven in court, or it's just an allegation.
Yep. We talked about this last week, two weeks ago. Elizabeth Holmes is in jail. She's on the cover of People Magazine. Right. Is she cancelled? We just platformed her on a fucking People Magazine. Alec Baldwin killed someone.
He was also on the cover of a magazine. Oh, he's got his His
Ilaria. Oh my god, I love this performance art. It has performance art, right? The whole Spanish thing, when she's from fucking Boston. Yeah, she's not Spanish. Her name's Hillary. There's a clip of her where she pretends to forget the English word for something.
Cucumber. God, thank you for the accent. E como se dice e, e, cu What the fuck is that? Yeah, it's insane. And there's video clips of Alec Baldwin that he's posted of himself and his family and he just looks miserable.  He always looks miserable. Spending the weekend with seven children. You just talk about him killing someone, I immediately went and bashed his wife.
That's fucking lame of me. They're in the news right now, those two. Yeah, they're all, they're always in the news. She's going for like the Kardashian play. But so is he's part of the show too. Speaking of Diddy, speaking of R. Kelly and Diddy's lawyer walked away from the case.
Oh yeah, he went, I can't do this. He's defended the worst of the worst people. And he's like,  nah, I'm not going to do this one. Because he knows he's going to lose. Ugh. But I don't think lawyers quit because they know they're going to lose. I think when they know they can't win the case they They want their money, but they don't want to get a bad rap. It's like He defends the dirt of the earth. But he probably gets the dirt of the earth successfully. So he wants the dirt of the earth to keep coming to him and being like, this guy's gonna get me off, and not in a ditty way.
Ewww. Sorry. Boo. Sorry. Boo. But yeah, boo that. Boo that. What do you boo? Send us notes on Instagram. I don't want to know what you would boo. Or email us at hey at hardcopy. online. Kaitlin and I want to know what you boo. What you boo? We'll read it out at our next recording. I don't want to be negative, but I do have another thing to boo.
Or should I say something positive? You're literally so negative. We're both being really negative today. I do have nice things to say sometimes, but when we If you say negative things, but in an upbeat way, Okay! I think you could fix it. Okay, do it. Did you know that Doug Ford's daughter, Krista Ford, has a GoFundMe where she's asking for 100, to help with her husband's legal fees because he wouldn't get vaccinated?
Thank you for reading that. That didn't work. I like the like faux Did you try that? Oh my god, what? We've talked about GoFundMes before. Why does she have a GoFundMe? The  family, so Doug Ford, Premier of Ontario. Are they super wealthy? So wealthy. Oh. They have so much  They have forever. Why does she need a GoFundMe She says she needs 100, 000 to help her husband, David Haynes, in his legal battle with the Toronto Police Service.
David
Haynes is a staff sergeant. So also, he's a police officer, so they make good money. Hold on! We're shooting on her, even though she put the GoFundMe up, but it's for her husband.
It's for her husband. Her husband's bad behavior. Yeah. She made the video.
do what you gotta do. Interesting. I do remember her being anti vax and reading about that somewhere. So what's the legal battle? She's asking for 100, 000 on this GoFundMe campaign to secure independent legal representation. Should we start a GoFundMe for this podcast?  I think it's called Patreon.  We should just have Patreon.
No, I don't want them to pay. I don't want our listeners to pay for I want. Brands who make lots of money and don't pay taxes to sponsor us. Agreed. So I want the listeners to just listen and then I want people with money to pay. That's why we don't have a paid thing.
I just feel very strongly about that. I like that. When our bank account goes negative then let's not think about that.  independent legal representation for her husband. She has expressed concerns about this political bias from the Toronto Police Association, which normally would provide legal support to its members.
Her husband is being given legal su He's entitled to Yes. That's a benefit or a perk of Yeah. But they don't want that union's lawyer, they want an independent lawyer, because they're worried about an unbiased opinion, blah, blah, blah. What, I, interesting. The bottom line is You can't, ugh, we have to explain to people.
Sorry, I was getting upset. That's, yeah. It's the name of the game today. He was placed on unpaid leave.
For not complying with the COVID 19 vaccination mandate. Oh, so this was a while ago. Yes.  Yes. This was in November. Sorry, I meant to say that. In November 2021. Fuck that, guys. Those were the rules.
We all had to do it. Dayton's was placed on unpaid leave for not complying with COVID 19 policies. Okay. Then he's saying, I, I've, and ever since then, he's been targeted. He's faced serious allegations stemming from his stance on workplace safety and It's  been so hard for him to get back to work.
Even though he's back at work. Oh, he,  Stop. So she GoFundMe, I need 100, 000, and we need an independent lawyer to defend my husband. What are your thoughts? My thoughts are, that's not what GoFundMes are for. We were actually talking about GoFundMes a little while ago, , it's hard when rich people ask for money.
It's hard when people who are making a lot of money ask for a lot of money. So they've raised already, 18, 378. 255. Donations. It's frustrating because she's a very well known, or I should say in the public eye, person. And that she is making this video begging for money feels gross.
In the last four years my husband has been sent home on unpaid leave for seven months for asking for more information about the efficacy of a vaccine being forced upon its members.
And what has turned out to be the most grotesque medical overstepping we've seen in our lifetime thus far. Okay, so your husband did not follow workplace policy because you're an anti vaxxer,  he was sent home on unpaid leave, or because he did not comply with workplace policy he was not allowed to do his job.
I like your you did a really good job on this PR. You did a really good job in writing it but No, yeah, but they raised 18, 000. Be the change you want to see in the world This is why we feel so strongly that God put us here for a reason. There it is. He's given us the ability to keep climbing, to stand up for others, and defend ourselves the best way we can in hopes to one day holistically change the way officers are treated.
Okay, you're mixing things here, baby. I don't disagree that it's really hard internally. I know several police officers and RCMP officers. She calls out here, furthering this, he spent four months off unpaid last year as his PTSD was severely triggered and the service did not support this clinical psychologist diagnosis.
That doesn't surprise me. My understanding is it's very challenging officers are discouraged from getting a diagnosis because they will be benched. Yeah, you want to take care of yourself, but then you don't get to work. Or you're put on administrative duties. Desk duty.
She's mixing up a few things here, pulling at the heartstrings, and they raised 18, 000. Listen guys, you're not special because There was a workplace mandate to be vaccinated. Everyone in the country abided by that. Yeah, and maybe that's what bothers me. It's this but we're special attitude, but we need to be helped.
We need your funds. We need public donations. It's the public donations. It's the entitlement of How about you take out a loan on your home? Because I bet you, you have a home.  really interesting. And if you want to sue But also by doing a GoFundMe, you generate press around an idea or action.
if they just borrowed against their house or found some other means to go and get different counsel, we wouldn't hear about this story. No. But she's also throwing in a mixed bag in there. So it's it's, is it the COVID? Is it the PTSD? Is it the lack of transparency?
Yeah. So it feels like she's doing a real catch all and not saying one thing too loud, but saying a lot of little things and then ending it with a God button. And so he's still working there. She ended it with a God button.  When all else fails, this is God's will. Yeah. When in doubt. Say God. Do you think God supports ketamine?
Yes. You do? I do. I think God is cool with Yeah. I've never done it.  You're nodding very enthusiastically. I would. Why don't you?  Is ketamine illegal? I believe ketamine is illegal. Don't, you're both nodding. I am as dumb as I look, okay? We're all going, I think so. I'm not allowed to have it. Ketamine Yes, ketamine There are ketamine fueled psychedelic slumber parties that get tech execs Back on track. This is a thing in San  and elsewhere. I'm sure I've heard about this. That that the San Francisco tech scene is actually quite Oh yeah.
Drug fueled. . I've heard of using psychedelics for therapeutic reasons, obviously in my quest for,
Not feeling fucking depressed. One of the things you come across, there are lots of clinical trials out there around the pairing shrooms essentially and therapy.
This is that as well, but ketamine and therapy. There's an interview in Wired Magazine I'm not going to attribute this popularity of a drug to one guy, but Musk did say ketamine is helpful  for getting a person out of a negative frame of mind.
Yeah. A lot of other ways to get out of a negative frame of mind, but sure. I love this headline. The unelected man currently gutting US federal programs isn't the only one who thinks so.  That's great. So ketamine was approved decades ago as a surgical anesthetic and it's long been used as a party drug.
Yep. It's known now as an off label mental health treatment of the moment. It induces a trance like state of sensory isolation and may temporarily boost the brain's neuroplasticity, which in theory makes mental ruts easier to escape. Ketamine abuse can obviously be  deadly and the drug remains illegal to use without a prescription.
it's worth noting Elon Musk. says he has one from an actual real doctor,  quote. Definitely not a fake doctor, a real doctor. So I know because they're wearing a coat. Yeah. So  WIRED interviewed these co founders of an organization that offers ketamine assisted leadership coaching.
In the San Francisco Bay Area. Wow. Fucking crack me up. you do ketamine and then someone's coaching you. Like you're in the room, it's, when you say it's paired, it's done in that hour. So yeah, it's like a very controlled, there's an itinerary. Yeah, okay. And they talk about it a little bit.
Obviously, this would be tricky to interview these people, and they're using pseudonyms because Kenemy's illegal.  But one of them has a doctorate in psychology, and the other co founder is a spiritual coach. Okay.  Great. It's a good pairing. It's like you and me, Em. Oh, Jesus.
Who's who? they Call it an off site, not a retreat. Off site, of course they call it an off site, they have to use corporate jargon. Their clientele are primarily CEOs of Fortune 100 companies and they're all in a pressure cooker. Makes sense. Here's the nail on the head.
These are the loneliest people. That's what these ladies identify. And they have to lead and go through so many things by themselves. They just want to be people.  their offsites cost 2, 600 for three days, plus a 350 fee for a medical assessment and ketamine prescription. Meals are included.
Hey, transportation and lodging or not. So it's a three day off site oh my god, one of the women says, the vibes are witchy.  I wish they weren't.  It sounds like, what was that show based on the book, Nicole Kidman is in it, The Nine, Nine Perfect Strangers. Nine Perfect Strangers was a book, and they adapted it into a TV show. I love the book. I wasn't getting into the show. it's similar, it's a retreat and  they're micro dosing them with psychedelics but they don't tell the people.
So just remind me of that. That's cool. Even though this is, obviously you're paying for this and you know what's happening, but. I've heard about ketamine being used to treat PTSD as well. Sure. I think psychedelics in general there's a lot of testing going on and I would love to submit myself in a clinical trial for that kind of stuff because desperate people will try anything.
Yes.  And it's important to note too when we were talking about like the mushroom pairing with a therapy.  it is. Intravenous.  You're not taking mushrooms, you're taking like psilocybin. Is that true? The essence, like the psilocybin that's in the mushroom, you're taking it yeah, it's not an oral.
Really? How do you know that? Because I've looked into it. I find it fascinating  to see what the future of drugs is going to look like, because there is a world in which these therapies that are a one time, maybe two time  visit, could mean that people wouldn't be taking as much maybe medication or could treat some serious PTSD and yeah, I am curious about that.
you use a lot of drugs in your youth? Recreational drugs? Any. Like antidepressant drugs? No, sorry, fun drugs. I started smoking pot in college. And then I've taken mushrooms a few times.
Is pot a fun drug? I don't feel like cannabis is very fun. For me it was. I'm seeing nods. For me it was. Okay. But also for some people it just gives them crippling anxiety. But for me I didn't, I would stop twitching. It felt good, if I smoked weed, I wouldn't have as many twitches.
because you have Tourette's. Yeah. But, I also know that it's not a thing that I would smoke a joint and then be like, Alright, I'm on stage now. That, that would never happen. No. I was always afraid of drugs. Oh yeah? Very afraid. And you know what, I still to this day, I feel Looney Tunes enough, as it is in life, that I don't need additional substances.
Yeah. my drug of choice is red wine, and I've been really trying to scale back based on like, how awful it is for you apparently,
If you don't like the feeling of losing control.
no. That's my concern with the, with drugs like ketamine, like I would wanna do it with someone else in the room who's a  📍 doctor. .
There's a growing number of Gen Z women. And Gen Z is the one that is younger than us. That are moving away from hormonal contraceptives. What are they moving to?  Oh no. Natural methods. No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, No. It's a trend influenced by wellness culture. That is stay away from the hormones. It's bad for you. contraceptive is not it's not saying it's great for you. I'm not saying it's great either. But let me tell you about the Economic and societal weight of having a baby.
Yes the concern that I have that you just said, which is that and healthcare professionals are echoing this concern, is there's this potential increase of unintended pregnancies and the spread of misinformation. Okay, are we still pro condoms? Or is it too plastic? I think we're pro condoms, but I think if anything people are just not having sex.
That I know to be true. we've seen a few studies that I'll link to in the show notes around the in,
people are having. That's one of the natural ways is just being like, I'm abstaining. I can't hate on that. No, but I'm also like, that's no fun. That's no fun.
Yeah. Gen Z women, hey? . Every generation does it different. We all have some We did doggy style. Oh my god! Okay, I thought that's what you meant. No, I'm kidding. We'll have a good doggy style. No. Sorry. Sorry to your mom.  we know Gen Z's having less sex. Yeah. Natural methods. Guys, wear a condom at least.
Jesus Christ. STDs, babes. Yeah, it's, but I guess are they having casual non monogamous sex? Hook up culture? I don't think we do that anymore. Hook up culture is a thing.  And it wasn't for me either.  It was for me.  It was for me. My favorite form of birth control is my personality. It's 100 percent effective.
What was your nickname again? Icebox? Oh, boo.  You said it last week.  Yeah, I feel bad for the world. There's this whole thing around millennial club culture, like the way we used to go out and party and socialize does not exist
anymore
is dying and is dead.
They don't go out and dance at clubs and hang out at clubs. And no, and I think in part due to COVID in part due to phones in part due to anxiety,  liz Plank wrote an awesome piece that really resonated and you can find the link for it in the show notes. she said, we stopped clubbing, but we need to bring it back.
Millennials grew up on dance floors while Gen Z is growing up on their phones. And it's true. We would go out to bars or clubs  with our digital cameras hanging from our wrists. Oh my God. Yes. No phones. No phones. No jacket. You could do in sandals in the snow.
Yeah, I do whatever you wanted and nobody watched. I just think it's fucking sad. we were listening to great music that was awful. She quotes All my ladies, pop your pussy like this. My neck, my back, lick my etc. I want to take a ride on your disco stick. Huh. It's the early 2000s club music, right?
Yes. I take you to the candy shop. Liz asks, where is all the feral music gone? It's not the music that disappeared, it's the club.
And clubs themselves are vanishing. Yeah. Between March 2020 and December 2023, over 400 nightclubs shut down in the UK alone. A 31 percent drop in just three years. Are you okay? That's so sad. I feel like It is so sad. It's like finding the new kids on the block died. In the US, the trend is even bleaker.
The bar and nightclub industry's revenue growth has slowed dramatically over the last five years. Iconic clubs have been shuttered, replaced by yoga studios, overpriced brunch spots, or worst of all, nothing at all, just empty buildings where chaos used to thrive. And it's not just a pandemic. The cost of living crisis has turned clubbing from a weekly routine into a 18!
Cover's 40. I have no idea how I used to pay to get in. It wasn't 40 and drinks weren't 18. Drinks were 5 and cover was 10. Oh my god. Millennials, weighed down in student debt and the impossibility of us, home ownership, we stopped going out as often. Two thirds of Gen Z haven't even consumed alcohol in the last year.
I'm not saying you need alcohol to party, but that's a crazy stat. It went hand in hand. Derek Thompson wrote in The Atlantic, We're just not hanging out anymore. And it's so right. The effect means less clubbing, less chaos, less human interaction. Have fun on those dating apps. The accidental friendships, the unplanned nights, the serendipity that makes life feel expansive instead of contained and fucking bleak.
Yeah. Depressing. Socializing has become just another thing to optimize. Which I find so true. True.  As Liz Plank says, clubbing was never about drinking. It was about randomness. It was about meeting up beforehand and getting dressed and seeing whomever at the club and being ridiculous.
you didn't know what song was going to come on next. You didn't know who you were going to be dancing with. Yeah. You didn't know where you'd end up.   She argues there's a she argues there's a spiritual case for clubbing.
And I would agree. it's one of those liminal spaces. It's where anything is possible. You don't know how the night's gonna go. Music's gonna come on and you're dancing. Clubbing was the last great in person dating app.  met I People say Gen Z is risk averse. And Liz asks, how can you take risks when the world is always watching?
And I, that I feel so so bad for them. There's a lot of talk about how to fix the Gen Z loneliness epidemic. The solutions always sound like punishments. Less screen time, less scrolling, less tech. Yeah. I'm old, so I don't feel like those things impact me as much,
and so Liz  posits, that maybe it isn't about taking things away, it's about bringing something back.
there's more and more people who are having relationships with their AI girlfriends, oh, I read some great articles about that recently.
Yes.  It's about this man who has a sex doll. So that he can fulfill the acts with his A. I. girlfriend through the sex doll.  Sorry, it's happening more and more that people are saying, I can't date and this, my A.
I. girlfriend fulfills everything I need.  This is a thing. There's a few articles out there right now around women who are using AI chatbots for boyfriends and they just check in on them and they're like, how's your day? And, over time they slowly.
Change the way they converse with you or chat, I shouldn't say converse, chat with you based on
you
as a user and people are making a case for it. People are making a case for a 70 subscription for feeling like you got somebody who's paying attention to you.  I can't get over the idea that it's a algorithm.
This woman, she and her husband split up.
She goes on this trip and she spends 70 on an AI chatbot boyfriend. And she's still using it a year later. Yes, there's the cons to it, but she was very much like, this is so great and I don't have to put this burden on any of my friends.
I just get to be friends with them. I know that was a little sad, but I also thought. That's a more mature woman. It's not a 21 year old who's, hasn't had a ton of significant relationships yet. That's a woman in our age going, I just need  the feeling. Yeah, I just gotta chat with someone. would worry about it being used at a super young age.
and foregoing real human relationships. Yeah. I think at our age, we, it's built into how we are in our age, in our generation. We have human relationships. I'd be worried about the younger ones
have been isolated, alone, not clubbing, not having, working from home, not having human relationships, and relying on AI for emotional support.
And if you're dating an AI bot, Oh, no, you're not. There's no first of all, you're not. But there's also nothing spontaneous then, right? Going back to the idea of anything could happen. It's very clear what will happen because they've been programmed to respond in a certain way. Yeah. The other night, my guy and I went out for dinner.
We had a spontaneous night Oh, we went to three different places. Oh, that's we just walked down a street and went. How about here? We're like great here and then we did a drink and a bite and then we're like, okay, let's keep walking And then we found another spot.
We're like, how about here? So we did we started with oysters? Then we went to Bar Corso on Commercial Drive. Oh, Really good Negronis, really good little tapas. Yummy. And then we ended the night with Mexican food. And it was fun to just be like, no dinner reservations, we had no plans, we also had no expectations.
Yeah, that's important, too.  for you guys. I love that old school stuff. I do. I want to date more. Yeah. Just be spontaneous too. Don't be like we have reservations at seven, so we've got to go. I feel very limited. And I think a lot of it's self imposed, but having children, I do feel pretty limited on that front to be spontaneous.
Or it takes two of us to be spontaneous because one will be spontaneous and the other one will be like, I'm exhausted. Yeah we weren't spontaneous in the sense that we knew we were going to go out for dinner. We just didn't know where we were going, what we were eating, and how many places we'd go to. Speaking of Mexican food though, I do have a hot take. People are gonna get really mad at this. Oh no! Get those clicks. Get that engagement. I think tacos are overrated. Oh, fuck.  I think tacos I think you're spoiled as fuck, is what I think.
No, I think this whole taco movement, where everyone now has to love tacos, and they even have a day taco Tuesday, and every goddamn food truck is a taco truck, and it's, what, three bites, tastes the same, half of it falls on your plate, so you're not even getting what you're paying for, heaven forbid it's on a corn tortilla, might as well make it on a rice stick.
Cracker. It's gonna crack right in half. Everything's gonna be a goddamn mess. And you look stupid eating them. And everyone loves tacos now. Everyone's Oh, I love tacos. Ooh, I heart tacos.  All this like stupid bullshit on a t shirt.  Don't talk to me until I've had my first taco.
People are taco obsessed right now. And I think it's overrated. And I think people are gonna snap out of it. What? And then where will we go? I don't know. Back to pizza.

did you watch The White Lotus? No, I didn't. I fell asleep last night at midnight  I wanna write that dialogue with some of the funniest fucking dialogue leslie Bibb is a cunt in this show. She's great. Yeah.  Are we recording? Which one is Schwarzenegger's son? The douchebag. Oh, it is? Oh, isn't he awful? Someone tweeted, they posted a picture of him and they put, I want to hit him with a hammer.
I don't know how he'll ever not play a villain role. Or just like a douchebag, a college frat boy.  What a fucking douche nugget. Yeah. He's so awful. So Mike White told the actors who play  that family,  go watch Southern Charm.
It's a reality show on Bravo. That's what I'm going for. And it's very accurate.
📍   Do you know about Marty Goddard?
No, I know Molly Goddard, who's a really wonderful fashion designer. This is Marty Goddard. Her name is actually Martha, but she went by Marty. And Marty Goddard is famous because she invented the rape kit.
I thought a man invented the rape kit.
Yes, you're not wrong. Originally the rape kit was called the Vitullo kit. named after a man named Louis Vitullo, a Chicago police sergeant.
But in reality, the rape kit, and the origin of the rape kit, was created by Marty Goddard. She was a community activist, and she had volunteered at a  hotline for runaway teens in Chicago in the 1970s.
And many of the callers that she was Speaking to had experience in sexual abuse, but few had reported to the police. It wasn't a thing. She wanted to know why. So she looked into it. What Marti Goddard did was she joined a task force as part of the police. She went into the crime lab. She interviewed everyone there.
She went to hospitals. She talked to administrators, nurses, everybody. She was trying to get so deep into the weeds so that she could understand the problem of evidence either not being collected or being thrown She had truly no business doing this and was simply curious and was like, no, something's wrong here.
She talked to everybody. she wanted to know, how do we fix this problem? And that was her driving force. How do we fix this problem? The reason I, this stood out to me is because one, it was cool to hear that this woman created the rape kit. But the other thing was, is that when you dig in and get in the weeds and figure out what a problem is and solve it quietly, you can actually make a huge, significant change. Tell me about what you  a problem quietly.
she did the work. She decided to dig in. Versus like live tweeting about it. Exactly. Obviously at the time it was the 70s. But she just decided that she was going to figure it out. She one of the reasons we know it as the Vitullo kit, which was named after Louis Vitullo, was because she was working with the police at the time, to get these kits being used.
Yeah. And she knew that to, ugh assuade and make it easier on a lot of the men police officers, that she said, I'll name it after one of
god. She also realized that she needed funding to make these kits happen. . So you know what she did? She got the Playboy Foundation to be their first investors in the rape kit. That's hot. Isn't that cool? That is so cool. The invention of the kit also was. To help exonerate innocent men, particularly men of color.
Yes.  The kit was also so that women, victims,  could go into court, could go into a police station, and would have evidence to stand by, because unfortunately, people didn't believe
Women. They were able to say, yeah, but look, we collected this evidence, and this is how we did it.
So it, validated, and it, legitimized. Claims. The fact that the Playboy Foundation helped fund it, really funny to me. That's really special.  this story stood out because it's also, it tells us how change can be made in difficult
times.
That's relevant. Yeah. And it feels like difficult times. But it's also felt like difficult times forever. That's life, I think. I But it was encouraging to hear that. She was curious, she didn't give up, and she just
something that helped. She did good.
Well  📍 done.   I gotta say. I, something gave, that gave me a little extra pep in my step this weekend. Of course, when I write the newsletter, I listened to a million different artists and albums to find what actually  good music that I think  that the ladies will like.
So of course I send this out and then I am still scrolling and looking and listening to different music.  I found my new favorite. that blew me away.
Wow. Knocked my socks off. That's huge. Have you heard of Saya Gray? No. S A Y A, last name Gray, she has an album out called S  just her first name, S A Y A. It is so good. I listened to it multiple times on repeat. Oh! All weekend long.
Sold!
It reminds me a lot of Unknown Mortal Orchestra.  I remember them! Oh, so good. They're just the layers of different styles of music. Big sound. Big style that would be so good. I'd love to be in a 2, 000 person venue while Saya Gray is playing.
Big fan. We should see if she's touring. She is. She's in Berlin. Oh, Paris, London, Chicago, Toronto! She's in Toronto, April 30th, New York, l. A. Okay go to L. A. You know what? You know what I could use?
A little trip. I feel like I'm always talking about trips. I guess I was just on a trip. When I had money, when I was employed I would go usually like once a quarter for a little 48 or 72 hour. Reset. Solo trip. Even after you had kids. Fuck yes. Oh I love that. My hot take.
My policy. In this essay I will. I'm running for mayor and I think that moms, sorry should get two weeks of mom PTO. On top of whatever their job is. Yes. Because often those. Days off are filled with taking the kids to the dentist, or dealing with a kid's sick day, or dealing with a professional development day where the kids don't even have school.
It alarmingly falls to moms, for a variety of and so I have this hot take that I think moms should get, like a Two weeks, two extra weeks that they can use however the fuck they want. That's a great idea. Yeah, I think I could really use that. So I have really pushed hard the whole time because I need that time alone or I'm going to go crazy and a better me means a better mom and a better wife and a better person for my whole family.
Yeah. And so I have in the past, I've gone to San Diego and done a little writing retreat and gone to see a show. And slept for 12 hours. Do you know what I mean? Just a little restorative. All the things that restore. Sometimes it's just a whistler. And, I say just, but I  rent a really shitty house.
And stay there in the snow and never leave. Yeah, that sounds delightful. So I do like to hide. Yeah. And listening to this album by S made me, so I have a playlist. That nobody can access. That is mind my mind. I don't do that often. But it's called, it's like the characters for my book that I wrote.
That's not very good. Yep. So the hard copy started because I wrote a book and it wasn't really good. So I put it on a shelf and I was like, what if I publish other writers? So that's what I do now on the blog. But I have a playlist of here's how I would score the movie of this book that I haven't yet written.
That is how your brain works. It's so fucked up. I love it. A lot of the Songs from the Saya Gray album. I'm like, oh, that would hit.  That sounds like a concert I want to go to. I saw MJ Lenderman last week here in Vancouver. Who? MJ Lenderman.
He's a singer songwriter, kind of country bluesy weird. I A lot of the musicians now genre bend. Yes, they do. And he was great, but there was a guy in his band who was playing guitar and  I literally left the concert. I was like, that was a great concert except for the wank jazz.
Oh no. And then two other people outside the concert was like, yeah, he was a bit much. I was like, he was a bit much. Oh no. What was he doing? He's just being wanky and what's being wanky  like masturbatory in the way that he was performing. Like he kept like putting his hair in front of his face.
Oh God, the way you just did that. No. Yeah. It was gross. Oh, interesting. But he, that wasn't MJ Landerman. That was just. guy who wished he was MJ Lennon. Yes, exactly. But it was really fun going to a concert.
Anyways, he's coming back to Vancouver in the fall, so if you want to see him, you should see
What was it, Timothee Chalamet in his acceptance speech at whichever fucking award ceremony, must have been the SAG awards.
SAGs, yeah. And he was like, we're in a subjective industry. And he had lots of other things that he said that people were like, this is the best speech ever. It's that he acknowledged and pointed out in a room full of, I love all you actors, but you've got some level of narcissism to you. especially the famous ones.
this is a subjective industry, which means imperfect measurement.  Sometimes those who get acknowledged and rewarded are not those who air quotes deserve it the most. And so I just really like that as a young called that out. Yeah. Not in an aggressive way. He just acknowledged it.
He said the truth. Yeah.  I like when he said, I'm striving for greatness. So this helps. That was so inspiring. Sometimes those speeches can be like really earnest to earnest. Sorry, but I wonder if a woman said that, if we'd feel the same way. I think it depends on the woman.
I think if it was like Kathy Bates, we would go okay. She's old. Exactly. But if it was someone, a young woman, a young actress. How about Timothee Chalamet's age? He's the youngest person to have won that award. I thought Adrian Brody did too. Yeah, but he's younger. Oh, hey, that's awesome.  Pick a young actress.
Sydney Sweeney. I wouldn't put her in the same category though as Timothee Chalamet. Bree Larson. Bree Larson. Great. If she said that and she went up there and said I'm striving to be one of the greats, she would get ripped to shreds, you guys. Yeah. It wouldn't be inspirational. People would say,   luck.
Good luck being great with my boot on your neck.
of, my neck hurts. big election in Germany just happened. What happened? They just had an election, federal election in Germany? Federal election in Germany, it's the Christian Democratic Union and the Christian Social Union, so I know what you're thinking with the Christian part. Sure am but it's not that bad. Not that bad.  It's a left centrist party. I dunno. People just say words now.
I'm like, aha. Center left. Yeah. Yeah. Mm-hmm . Cent.. Mm-hmm . Mm-hmm. I nod I know, but I don't anymore.   It's not the same traditional parties, but  it's the same party that Merkel was part of.
Merkel to Mertz. That's But it's important because there's a lot going on in Europe right now and what Germany does is important to. European autonomy when it comes to defense and policies. Germany has a lot of power. The speculation is that Europe is going to have to reduce reliance on the United States, address internal challenges, and, maybe rely more heavily on other European countries rather than the United States.
you know, In our, our youth. Globalism became such a phenomenon, and the international trade, was huge, and now we're seeing this slow, but very steady Pushback to local. It's been there for a while, but now it's a bit louder  obviously with all the political upheaval and  threats of tariffs, etc that was just a little bit of world news.
I want to throw in there.
What about tech? I want to tell you something.
Christie's, the art house? Yeah. It recently held a landmark auction, big auction happened at Christie's featuring AI generated artwork. How much did it go for?  It was a dip tick, is that how you spell them?
Dip tick. Dip tick Holly Herndon and Matt Dryhurst. Ex Hairy Mutant X is the
Pull it up. Pull that hairy mutant
stop it. That is the dumbest shit I've ever seen in my life. That is so ugly. How much did it go for?  It is so ugly. That is so fucking ugly. Isn't that awful?
they're expecting to get something close to 250, 000.
Thousands of artists are calling for this auction to be cancelled. Is it an all AI auction? It's an all AI art auction. Okay. I'm listening. Here's a funny tricky part. Many of the artworks that are going to be auctioned are created using AI models that are known to be trained on copyrighted works without a license. Guys,  this is our 25th episode and for the last 24 episodes I've been trying to explain to you.
Yes,  and you're doing a great job. Thanks. Enough that I'm going, yeah, wait a minute. Because of the use of copyrighted work to train these AI models, the technology It is fucking original. It's not original. So they're saying you can't sell this. You can't auction this off. I agree with that, but I think a lot of people who have interest in AI, or who will benefit from it.
Including the selling of it,
of course they want to sell it. And one of the It creates infinite supply. But then also there's these artists who are saying, no I made this artwork, I showed you that picture, right? That, that It was the ugliest thing I've ever seen. Matt Dryhurst said Ugly.
Matt Dryhurst said that he cares a lot about this issue of art and AI very deeply. I'm sure he does. And he rejects the criticism in the letter.   So that piece that I showed you. I reject it. I'm going to answer all of our critical commentary with well, I just reject it.
Ick.  Remember a few episodes ago I talked about the Thomson Reuters lawsuit. They had filed the claim in 2020 and they just. won their A. I. copyright lawsuit, with the judge saying, I reject them all the excuses that the A. I. company was putting out there.
I'm gonna adopt that, Emily. We are so fucked. No, I love this term. I reject that.  That is such a, I hate that. I reject it. You don't even have to answer any, with any level of intelligence. I reject it. I'm just gonna go on all of the shitty comments on our Reels and our YouTube and just be like, I reject that.
I reject it. But we were saying before are we supposed to just laugh, when people say something nasty to you, you're supposed to laugh at it, mock it. But maybe you can also just go, I reject.  I reject.  Very flippantly, just no, I reject. I reject that.
Also, it's ugly! It's ugly! Speaking of subjective. Show me the person who thinks that's nice. Or who wants that in their home. It's so ugly. And it's fucking AI generated.
I wish you could see our audio engineer's face.
She looks like she just smelled a fart.  On that note. Go create, Go create Or, if you can't create,  donate to Krista Ford Haynes GoFundMe.
