Daily Devotional:
“Serving with His Power”
Colossians 1:28-29
"He is the one we proclaim, admonishing and teaching everyone with all wisdom, so that we may present everyone fully mature in Christ. To this end I strenuously contend, with all the energy Christ so powerfully works in me."
In these two verses, the apostle Paul reveals both the ultimate goal of his ministry and the source of power that sustains it. His life’s mission was clear: to proclaim Jesus Christ, guiding and teaching others so that they might grow into spiritual maturity.
Notice the vital truths Paul balances here; by intentionally investing in others, Paul speaks of "admonishing and teaching everyone with all wisdom." Growing as a follower of Jesus is not an isolated journey. God calls us to actively encourage, guide, and walk alongside others in faith—whether in our homes, churches, workplaces, or friendships. The target isn't just introducing people to faith, but helping each person grow into full maturity in Christ. Relying on God’s Power, not our own. Paul describes his work as "strenuously contending"—it involves real effort, discipline, and perseverance. Yet, he immediately clarifies where his stamina comes from: "with all the energy Christ so powerfully works in me." When we try to love, serve, mentor, or lead others in our own limited strength, we quickly run into exhaustion and burnout. But when we depend on the holy, surging power of Christ within us, our labor becomes a fruit of His grace.
Whatever responsibility or calling God has placed in your hands today—raising a family, serving at church, encouraging a neighbor, or striving for excellence in your career—you are not asked to carry it in your own strength. Christ provides the wisdom, patience, andsupernatural energy you need for every good work.
Identify your mission field and think of one person God has placed in your sphere of influence. How can youintentionally help them step closer to Christ or grow in their faith this week? Surrender your exhaustion if you are feeling overwhelmed by your current responsibilities, pause and pray. Consciously transfer the heavy burden from your self-reliance into Christ's hands. Work with intention and approach your daily duties not just as tasks to finish, but as opportunities to proclaim Christ's love through your words, attitude, and work ethic.
