OM DENNE EPISODE
What makes a great comic book animation?
Is it the incredible detail of Spider-Verse? The dark atmosphere of Batman: The Animated Series? The colorful simplicity of Super Friends? Or can a motion comic, CGI series, or even a radically reimagined Batman tell the story just as effectively?
In this Moving Panels One Shot, Laramy and Nicholas Pepin take a trip through the history of comic book animation, from Fleischer’s Superman and Saturday morning cartoons to the animated shows of the '90s, motion comics, What If...?, Batman Ninja, and the groundbreaking visual style of Spider-Verse.
We’re asking a bigger question: Do we sometimes confuse visual complexity with artistic quality?
Because maybe there isn't a “right” way to make a comic book move.
Sometimes it’s high art.
Sometimes it’s Saturday morning.
Sometimes it’s both.
Welcome to High Art vs. Saturday Morning.
