OM DENNE EPISODE
ElectronicRhythm.com's UMS #124 with Darkmode, founder of UK techno and electro label Biotech Recordings.https://www.electronicrhythm.com/ums-124-darkmode-biotech-recordings-uk/For this episode, we head to Newcastle upon Tyne for a conversation with an artist whose relationship with electronic music stretches back to the formative years of electro, house, acid house and techno.Darkmode joins the Underground Movement Show for a one-on-one interview followed by a 1 hour 56 minute guest mix built around what he describes simply as proper techno — energetic, hypnotic, raw, peak-time music with a strong Detroit influence. In the interview, Darkmode takes us back to his earliest encounters with electronic music. He remembers discovering electro as a child in the 1980s, hearing house music in 1987, experiencing the emergence of acid house in the UK in 1988 and finding techno soon afterward. He also discusses the influence of artists including Jean-Michel Jarre and Depeche Mode, the latter ultimately inspiring the Darkmode name. The conversation moves through his beginnings as a producer, studying music technology in Newcastle, early releases and recognition for his DJ mixes, before arriving at the creation of Biotech Recordings in 2011.The reason for starting his own label was straightforward: Darkmode wanted somewhere he could release music without changing his sound to fit somebody else's idea of what it should be.That philosophy still sits at the center of Biotech Recordings.Instead, the label focuses on music Darkmode believes in: proper techno, Detroit-influenced sounds, hardgroove and electro. We also get into his philosophy behind DJing. Rather than keeping a set at maximum intensity from beginning to end, Darkmode talks about taking the listener on a journey — building energy, pulling it back and bringing it up again. He recalls dropping electro and unexpected classics into techno sets and watching a new generation of listeners discover records released before some of them were even born. That approach carries directly into his UMS #124 guest mix.Across nearly two hours, Darkmode moves through driving, raw and hypnotic techno while drawing from artists including Dave Clarke, Smith & Selway, The Advent, Joey Beltram, Marco Bailey, The Martian and Suburban Knight. The set also contains a substantial selection of Darkmode's own productions, giving listeners a direct introduction to his sound as both DJ and producer.Tracklist:Dave Clarke - Way Of Life (Technasia epic mix) Smith & Selway - Excel Alexey Kotlyar - A Dope (Jee Groove remix) Ray Marshall - Norwood (Wyrus remix) Norman Andretti - Gemini (Gohai & Input C remix) Thomas Will - Corrupted System (Sterling Moss remix) Adrenaline - Underpool (Carl Falk remix) Bryant Baker - Combustion David Moleon - Mole Off DJ Link - Burn DJ Mary & Starsystem - Mulambo Electro One - Pussy Killer The Advent - Replay Pacou - Spark The Advent - The Vault Joey Beltram - Resurgence Marco Bailey - Outbreak (Christian Smith & John Selway mix) Smith & Selway - Shift Darkmode - Battle Of The Planets Darkmode - Space Adventure Cobra The Martian - Stardancer SUBURBAN KNIGHT - Infra Red Spectrum Darkmode - TR-909 Darkmode - Rectify Darkmode - Techno Non Stop John Rowe - Dose Darkmode - Rouge One Mark Neenan - Regurgitech Darkmode - Adonis Darkmode - I'm Gonna Get You
