Speaker 1: Harvey One. I'm David Chadwick and this is one O seven point nine FMWBT, Charlotte's FM News Talk Radio. Thank you for being with me. This is a faith in values program that I've been doing now for over twenty six years here on one oh seven point nine WBT. It's been a privilege doing the show. We try to intersect what's going on locally and globally throughout the world with faith and values. And many thanks to Perris Find Jewelry for your sponsorship of this show. Without you, I could not do this on a weekly basis. For any of you who are wanting jewelry, please go to Perry's Find Jewelry. You can find the best of the best there among their great staff. Today, I want to talk with my friend Ed Billick, who has an open mic with me about what's conservative and what's liberal or what's progressive. How did we get to defining things the way they are today. Also, I want to spend some time in a segment looking at the life of Saint Peter that the Catholics and the Protestants both admire, and the last three words he spoke to his wife, You're gonna have to hang on to hear that one's teas indeed, ed, and it's going to be during the third segment. I look forward to doing that. But ed, good morning, welcome.
00:01:33
Speaker 2: Yes, good morning here in middle of July. Just celebrate the fourth here, you know, And I tell you what, it's nice and toasty and warm outside. Yeah.
00:01:41
Speaker 1: Well, let's touch on a couple of things that happened this past week. Lindsey Graham, our South Carolina senator, passed on to go be with the Lord. From everything I can tell, he was a person of faith. He had a mixed record among people out there, I guess really if you're more conservative or liberal. Some called him a war mong green kind of senator. Others called him one who was really principled in his conservatism. But he went on to be with the Lord this week, and in rather a tragic way, wasn't it.
00:02:10
Speaker 2: Yeah, exactly. And it spawned a lot of thoughts and comments. Was there some you know, seriously evil things going on there? But at the end of the day, it was a hard situation. And if you just heard on Carolina Focus, we just covered Atrium Health did a whole podcast this after or this week on that topic.
00:02:30
Speaker 1: Yeah, some going back to the COVID era. Did the COVID shot cause these kind of aortic problems?
00:02:35
Speaker 2: I mean John Ritter from Three's Company died of the same.
00:02:38
Speaker 1: Way and a relatively young age as well.
00:02:42
Speaker 2: I'll tell you Lindsey was seventy one, still a young guy.
00:02:44
Speaker 1: I think, so ed is you and I age of birthday, last thank you, Thank you, had another milestone in my life. I keep moving forward because I simply think that God gives life, and as long as you have health, you have the greatest gift.
00:02:57
Speaker 2: Happy and God faithful people live long.
00:03:00
Speaker 1: Absolutely.
00:03:00
Speaker 2: I've never met a hundred year old that it was cranky and you know, moaning about.
00:03:04
Speaker 1: No and they have such great insights in life. My father in law, who's still alive, is ninety eight and this is going to his ninety ninth and February birthday. He wants to get to one hundred. He had a cousin who lived to one hundred and six and he wants to beat him. So that's really fun. I got you covered well. He's a great man and has great insights. Loves our nation, loves our constitution. Was the one of the few living World War II submarine veterans today, and he has a lot to say about our nation, calling people to faithfulness, and I would agree with him in so many different ways. Well, we had President Trump bring up the whole election issues on Thursday night during his speech, and we'll know more and more how that unfolds. But bottom line is our nation still moves forward and ed. What I want to talk about during our next segment primarily is this whole conservative liberal progressive kind of divide that exists in our nation. What are some of the key division points that caused people to have different views how I don't think they're going to be resolved anytime soon, but our nation seems to be divided in a lot of way. But I also want to address the fact that on this progressive side, it seems to be moving more and more to the left. And I would not call it liberal. I'd call it more socialist, if you don't mind that word being used today, communist. It's something I've never seen in my lifetime, like it's happening before. As I see the leftist Democrats are being redefined repeatedly.
00:04:27
Speaker 2: Let's go back to our childhood. I mean, I don't ever recall grade school, high school, even in college we had liberals and conservatives. I mean we didn't didn't really talk that way. And I knew growing up. I thought the Republicans maybe they were concerns. They ran the businesses, and the Democrats are a lot of the blue collar that work. Yeah, that's how our still town was set up. And it's the only kind of difference I knew. But you know, cross the aisle, you know, they would agree to disagree and life moved on. I just don't never recall, how about you, Well.
00:04:58
Speaker 1: I don't recall it being quiet like it is today. And in fact, the Liberals have renamed themselves as progressives, and I think about that, and progressive means progress. It's looking at issues that you think need to be changed and progressed to something more. And I think if I had lived during the time of the Civil War, for example, I would have wanted to have been a progressive. I would have wanted to progress beyond slavery being a part of our lives. I like to think if I'd been a pastor during the nineteen eighteen, fifties and sixties, that I would have been unashamed in my speaking out against human chattel, against human slavery and to progress beyond that is something I think I would have liked to have been a part of children, and I believe I would have been a part of that. I think you would have ed as well. But today the word progressive means something even different. It's not just progressing beyond issues that exist today that need to be changed, and I want to do that as well. It's taking things to the left that is dramatically changing our nations structure and who we are as a people.
00:06:02
Speaker 2: So some of these groups of hijack that word. It looks to me like it like it fits into our society when it doesn't.
00:06:08
Speaker 1: Yes, and what you have in the Democratic Party is that liberal shifting to the left that now is trying to redefine our whole structure, our way of existing. And you see the entry point. I think of a socialist, communist view that we've never had in any kind of large way in our country. We've always been a capitalist country and believe that that's the best way to do things. Flawed, Yes, greed can cause capitalism to go to places that it does not need to go as well. But on the other hand, even though it's a flawed system, it's the best system in the world. It has produced more wealth and has alleviated more poverty than any other system that has ever existed. But now you're seeing a call from the left, the progressives, to progress beyond capitalism and for socialism to be the government of our days. I think that's dangerous and what I like to do on the other side of the break is look at different issues that I think the leftists are promoting that are causing many of us to go that's a progression I don't want to happen. I'm David Chadwick along with Ed Billick. This is one oh seven point nine FMWBT will be right back.
00:08:22
Speaker 3: Glorybe to the Father, Glory be to Thesid, Glory be to the Spirit.
00:08:32
Speaker 4: God History and one has it wasn't the beginning.
00:08:38
Speaker 3: It will beavy, Glory be, glory be.
00:08:46
Speaker 1: One of the unique aspects of the Christian faith is one God in three persons. It's called the Trinity. It's in the Bible. The word trinity isn't but that teaching is in the scripture. And again it's at the heart of the Christian faith. Be for dikly Sehi everyone. I'm David Shadwick and this is one oh seven point nine FMWBT, Charlotte's FM News Talk Radio. Great to be back with you, my friend and producer at billickas is Mike Open. Today we're trying to look at this whole definition of what's a conservative and what is a liberal or progressive. In the first segment we looked at progressive. It's people who believe we need to progress beyond certain issues of the day. I think there's a desire to progress beyond capitalism and what we've known in our country's economic system. Versus conservatism. What is a conservative? And I say I am unabashedly a conservative, ed I know you are as well. We try to conserve values that we think need to exist in a nation in order for that nation to maintain health. So we have certain truths that we believe in that I think are being undermined by progressives today that are trying to redefine those truths that they can initiate within our culture a system that we've never known before, particularly moving toward a more socialist or communistic system. Now. Jesus said in Matthew Chapter twenty four that as the end times get nearer to the end, that there's going to be a great deception. Paul talks about it in Second Thessalonians chapter two, and what he says is that there's going to be an increasing knowledge among people who question what basic truths should exist. And again Jesus called that the great deception. It's from the evil one. It's from Satan himself, whom Jesus said in John eight forty four is a liar and has been a liar from the beginning. So if he can alter truth, he can start to bring in issues that are not healthy for a nation's long term health. Now, let's look at some of those issues I think that are being ushered in from progressives who think this should be redefined, and conservatives say no, those can't be redefined. They are basic understandings of a nation that have to exist for that nation to be well ed. Let me give you the first one that comes to my mind. It is men can be in women's sports and spaces.
00:11:19
Speaker 2: That wasn't a thing twenty years ago.
00:11:20
Speaker 1: Where did that come from? Where did it come from? I think it's a redefinition of what's taught clearly in Genesis chapter one, verse twenty seven, that God created us distinctly male and female, that they are two distinct genders. And what's happened over the years, and I'm not sure why it is. I think partly it's because of people having feelings about being a woman if they're a man, Or maybe it is a self diagnosis that I am this or that. Maybe it's a social contagion, or maybe it's simply that we don't have the ability in our lives to cling to truth and belie believe that truth is absolute in every possible way. Or it could well be that there are men who can't succeed competing against men, and in their pride and their desire to win and be able to conquer others, they have to get in female spaces in order to win. It could be any one or among all of those possibilities. But the truth is the truth. We believe that men are men and women are women. And when you allow men to compete against women because they simply feel that way, or when you believe that men can go into women's spaces, restrooms, locker rooms, or whatever, you're inviting all kinds of disaster. Let me give you one other illustration. In prisons today, there are men who say oh, I'm really a woman. And because of this gender confusion in our culture, they're allowing men to go into women's prisons because they think they're women, and then we're surprised that there are rapes and pregnancies that occur in those spaces. I mean, it's to me idiocy, but it's another example of redefining truth in our culture. And a progressive says, oh, we can progress beyond that truth to this new idea where conservatives say, let's conserve that truth, because when men say they can become women, we are altering the whole understanding first of all of male and female relationships. Ed.
00:13:22
Speaker 2: You know, I said here, David, I think Okay, I got friends that are progressive or liberal. Okay, I don't think they believe that. Matter of fact, I know they don't believe that. So there are these kind of things that are entering into this kind of So all progressives believe this, No, I doubt that. But the strong arm, this, this radical left or radical whatever we're calling here, is creating that that's how you should behave and believe that's conservacy. You guys are crazy, these little so I'm not like that.
00:13:51
Speaker 1: What you would hope is then within their own party, they would.
00:13:54
Speaker 2: Each ot now they've taken over the Democrat.
00:13:56
Speaker 1: Part, that's the point. The ones who have taken over the Democrat party to the left say that now men can enter into women's spaces in sports and restrooms and locker rooms in prisons, et cetera, et cetera. And when you believe that, you're inviting all kinds of confusion in the culture. And when that confusion comes, that's what invites all kinds of.
00:14:17
Speaker 2: Those plank to cause that confusion. Because there's other example.
00:14:21
Speaker 1: Oh yeah, let's move on to another one, and that's open borders. That every nation that has ever existed has had to have borders around it. And when you have open borders and invite anyone and everyone to come in and participate within your culture, and they don't assimilate into that culture, that's when you are inviting again chaos, confusion, and I think the ultimate erosion of that culture altogether. People ask me sometimes, well, our borders talked about in the Bible, and I go, absolutely, they are in Israel. When God formed the nation of Israel, he gave it borders to surround it. Within the tribes themselves, the twelve tribes of Israel. There were borders that defined each one of those tribes. A nation that forms a culture, that causes that culture to be the unique definition of that nation. And when you have open borders and invite anyone and everyone to immigrate without assimilating, and that's the key phrase, without assimilating into the values of that culture, you are causing chaos within that culture.
00:15:26
Speaker 2: That's absolutely true. I mean, think of the Irish, think of the Italians, the Polish, those folks that came over to turn the century eighteen hundreds and nineteen hundreds, my grandfather as well. Yeah, they still celebrated their ancestry and their ethnicity, but they sure became Americans and they blended right into the culture. Some of the folks because open borders, they want to create their own country within.
00:15:46
Speaker 1: Art, within the country, and they're not a simulator. And you wonder if a world war occurred, like World War One or World War II, where all of those different immigrants had to come together with a commitment to the American constitution, and though different, they came together in war to fight against a power that wanted them completely eradicated. You wonder if that would really even happen today if a world broke world war broke out, and.
00:16:09
Speaker 2: So many of those did fight in World War Two, and they were very proud and they need their lives.
00:16:13
Speaker 1: And they became close friends, and the differences in ethnicity would blur because they had a common enemy that they were fighting against. Yet when they came back, they still kept their uniqueness, and then over time they would assimilate into what we call this Grand American experience. I would say America is exceptional. I do believe in American exceptionalismo.
00:16:35
Speaker 2: What we just celebrated in the two hundred and fiftieth how much patriotism was on fire.
00:16:39
Speaker 1: Yeah, and it's because people understand that this place is different. What makes us different. It is the Bill of Rights, It is those freedoms embedded within the first part of our constitution. Why are people from all over the world wanting to come here, Well, first of all to get our money, but secondly they want to come here because they want to celebrate those freedoms.
00:16:58
Speaker 2: You got me fired up. Watch that movie, A Great Awakening, and it was about George with film force, but it was also about Benjamin Franklin, both of them. In his message to the Congressional Congress.
00:17:09
Speaker 1: It was both of them and the writing of the Constitution and the influence that George Whitfield and biblical preaching had upon the founders who ultimately wrote that Constitution to be different than any other conserttion.
00:17:20
Speaker 2: Benjamin Franklin did want to make money on the deal America.
00:17:25
Speaker 1: He became wealthy off George Whitfield because all published discermons.
00:17:28
Speaker 2: They also got closer to God he did.
00:17:30
Speaker 1: Indeed, anybody wants to listen to my show on the fourth of July, that's what we talked about the influence of George Whitfield and Benjamin Franklin upon the writing of our Declaration and our Constitution. But we are a unique people and our borders have to be secure. And I do praise God for one good thing I think Donald Trump has done as he's closed our borders more efficiently. But you see these different communities like in Minnesota with the Somalian community and other places that they've not assimilated. They keep their own culture, and that's Islam's danger to America, which is another show. We'll do it another time.
00:18:02
Speaker 2: Wrap up the segment in the last minute, what did Nakita Khrushchev say.
00:18:06
Speaker 1: In the nineteen late nineteen fifties nineteen sixty Nikita Krushchev, who was the premier of Soviet Russia, was at the United Nations and I remember this. I'm old enough to many of our listeners might as well. He took off his shoe and started pounding his desk in front of him, and he basically said, America will be conquered one day, not from without, from an evasion. America will be conquered from within, as it gives up its values, as it gives up what it believes, and will be conquered from people within who will overthrow our uniqueness as a nation. And that's what we're talking about today, and these truths that we hold, dear, we've got to continue to be committed to in every way. Let's look at some others when we come back on the other side of the break. I'm David Chadwick, will be right back.
00:20:19
Speaker 3: Shepherd, God, my ones, my feuse from dat.
00:20:32
Speaker 1: We trust the Lord with our individual lives. We trust the Lord with our country as well. May we trust him in everything?
00:20:40
Speaker 3: My shepherd's so much.
00:20:43
Speaker 1: Hi everyone, I'm David Chadwick and this is one o seven point nine FMWBT Charlott's FM News Talk Radio. Welcome back to the show, and if you'd like to hear this program in its entirety, go to WBT dot com, scroll down to the weekend shows, look for the David Chadwick Chadwick Show and you can listen to it from beginning to end in its entire just talking about our nation, talking about truth that is being questioned today. When that happens, you have progressive taking over our nation. If you don't believe that's happening, folks, look at what's happening in New York City right now with Mom Donnie and dearborn Michigan and other places where mayors, for example, are popping up and introducing all kinds of different understandings of our nation that we've never had before. People who have immigrated have not assimilated. And the whole entrance of Islam is a whole nother subject will need to cover in the future, and what that may mean is a danger for our nation as well. But truth is being questioned. My friend Ed Billick and I have opened up our microphones to talk about it. Like men and women, sports, open borders, homelessness is now called a lifestyle. Homelessness is not a lifestyle, folks. Needles on the streets does not equal safety, and we're seeing that happen in larger and larger communities as well. Natural immunity doesn't exist. That's crazy, those of us who just know heard immunity must exist. That our natural buyos these can ward off diseases, and when most of us have warded off those diseases, those diseases don't hurt us. That's the COVID debate as well. Whiteness is toxicity and automatically equals racism. That's just not true. Just because you have a certain color of your skin and a skin tone does not mean you are racist.
00:22:20
Speaker 2: Changing definitions, and.
00:22:22
Speaker 1: That the world's problems are basically caused by straight white males, that's just not true. Many of us ed you and me. We've committed to our wives, we've committed to our families, we've committed to our children, we've committed to our grandchildren. We try to work hard, pay our taxes, do those things, and we're not racist at all. Yet we're being blamed for all of the problems in the world, and we just keep going with other things like the introduction of Islam into our culture. Again, we'll talk about that at a later date. The pro point being truth has been eroded, and what's happened is those on the left are questioning the truth and causing all of these points to be made that cause a division that exists now in our nation from those of us who are conservative, who conserve the values that have made.
00:23:02
Speaker 2: Our nation to day. Then I can't believe that everyone's that's on the left believes all that. It's an agenda that seems to be just being created and flushed through. To your point on Nikita Khrushchev's comment back in the fifth.
00:23:14
Speaker 1: They'll destroy us from within, and I think they start doing so by eroding our values that we hold. Dear folks, two plus two does not equal five. That is something that people are saying today we need to recreate science and math, and that they're racist with the betterment of who for those who want control. I think that's what's going on. And folks, is you have to go to the voting polls and you vote for people. Vote for people who know two plus two equals four, vote for people who maintain truth in these areas and other areas, don't fall prey to the deception that truth can't be defined today. It has existed in our culture, in our nation, and it has to stay that way for our nation to remain healthy.
00:23:54
Speaker 2: You know, I was thinking this morning, don't vote for someone what they tell you. Vote for what they have done.
00:23:58
Speaker 1: Look at their life, how voted, and you can see and you will know what they believe. And this division that exists in our nation, I think is largely because people have lost our understanding of truth. Let me remind you again, Jesus said, at the end of the days and in times, truth is going to erode. There's going to be what he calls the great deception. I think it's kind of going on. We're seeing the suggestion of it today. But for those of us who believe where Jesus is focal and we believe that the truth is God's word, continue to believe that truth, live by that truth, but also vote that truth. It will help our nation remain whole ed. Let's do this shift, gears I said in the third segment, We're going to do.
00:24:36
Speaker 2: This all fired up. I'm sure our listeners are too.
00:24:39
Speaker 1: What you come from a Roman Catholic background, and Saint Peter is dear to the Roman Catholic first pope. Obviously that's something you believe in Protestants don't believe that, But we believe Saint Peter is important.
00:24:50
Speaker 2: You believe he was called Simon and God gave him the Jesus gave the word Peter.
00:24:54
Speaker 1: And that Peter was the first person to recognize that Jesus was the Christ, the Messiah, the Son of the living. So as that first person, he's an image for all of us that we need to follow as well. But both of us exalt him, admire him, and believe he's important in our faith perspective. Well, let's talk a bit about Saint Peter. In sixty four AD, Peter stood and watched his own wife being led away to execution.
00:25:21
Speaker 2: I did not know that.
00:25:23
Speaker 1: Yep, he could have screamed, he could have cursed the soldiers carrying her away. But here are his last three words to her as he saw his beloved wife. Some in history think her name was Perpetua p E r p E t usage.
00:25:39
Speaker 2: She was well displayed into chosen.
00:25:42
Speaker 1: Loved by Peter deeply and dearly. That Jesus actually healed her mother. He came and healed Peter's mother in law, Perpetua's mother at some point in working in his ministry, and so as he's seeing her being led away, he says, these three were Well, wait a minute, I'm going to wait a second until I tell you those three words. Let's look at the life of Peter. He was just a common fisherman. He, along with James and John, evidently had a fishing business on the Sea of Galilee. It was evidently successful because when Peter was in Jerusalem after he had denied Jesus, he's in the inner court where only people who had access to the Inner Court could come. And it's probably because he was a successful businessman.
00:26:26
Speaker 2: Then he had to pay his taxes to.
00:26:28
Speaker 1: Matthew exactly, and he came down from Galilee to Jerusalem to pay those taxes, but also probably brought some of his fishing business to maybe Herod, maybe Ponscious Pilot and other people who were very well known during.
00:26:41
Speaker 2: That well respected in the community.
00:26:43
Speaker 1: So Peter, though, was the one who first recognized Jesus as the Christ, the son of the Living God. When Jesus called him, he dropped his fishing nets immediately and chose to follow him. Jesus changed his name from Simon, which suggests kind of a wishy washy personality, to Peter, which means the rock. I love this. Jesus didn't see who he was, he saw he could who he could become. And this Peter was the head of the Apostolic man. It seemed like he was the spokesperson for all of the twelve Apostles, and Jesus I think dearly loved him. And yet at the last Supper he predicted that Peter would deny him not once, not twice, but three times. And later, after Jesus was arrested by the Herodians and also the Roman guards, Peter was there in that inner court, and somebody identified him as one of jesus followers and said, you're one of jesus major guys, and Peter said.
00:27:38
Speaker 2: No, no, I'm not.
00:27:40
Speaker 1: And then he came back a second time, said no, you are that guy him, And then a third time he came to him and said here. Three times he denied him, and at the third time his eyes and Jesus eyes fixed as I think Jesus was being led to the place where he would be placed in prison, and Peter wept bitterly, and he ran away, and he didn't want anything to do with Jesus. He thought he would have the same execution that Jesus was facing the very next day, and he hid because he was afraid. And then interestingly, Jesus, of course, is crucified the next day, and in his resurrection, one of the angels says to the women Mark sixteen seven, go to Galilee, where you'll meet Jesus, and especially tell Peter. The angel took Peter and said, make sure you tell him, especially that he's going to meet Jesus in Galilee. And I think that's largely because Jesus loved him so deeply. He wanted to make sure that in his bitterness and in his feeling of rejection, Jesus still loved him. And so they meet in Galilee. In John twenty one, in Peter's fishing, he goes back to his fishing business. He's distraught, but he goes back to what he does well. And he hears a voice from the shore that says, throw your nets on the other side. And fishing all night long had caught nothing, and this voice says, throw your nets on the other side, and so they do and catch this big haul. It's a reminder. I think to Peter that that's what happened when he first called me. He after a long night's worth of fishing where we called nothing. He said, throw the nets on the other side, and I did so. And that's what made me want to follow him in the first place. He realized two plus two does equal four. That's Jesus, that's the one who loves me so much. He's on the shore. So he jumps out of the boat, just like he did earlier. Remember in the storm, Peter gets out of the boat. Other disciples don't get out of the boat, but the man with great faith, Peter does, and keeps his eyes fixed on Jesus and not the waves, and he's able to walk straight to Jesus. Well, he jumps out of the boat again and doesn't walk on the water, but kind of runs through the water to the shore where Jesus meets him, And there Jesus asked him three times, do you love me? Now here's what's interesting yet. The word agapi is what Jesus uses when he asks if I do you love me? That word means total unconditional acceptance of the other person. Peter, do you agape me? And Peter responds, yes, Lord, I phila you uses a different Greek word just means I love you like a friend. A god bade do you love me unconditionally? Peter know, I love you like a friend. Second time, Jesus says, do you a goadba me? Peter? Do you love me unconditionally willing to give your life for me? Second response, Peter says, I just fullay on you. I'll love you like a good friend. So third time Peter, Jesus says to Peter, do you forllay on me? Goes to well, do you just love me as a good friend? And Peter finally said yes, Lord, I fullay on you. And Jesus said, okay, let's go from there to start our relationship with you. And they walk down the shore and Jesus tells Peter how he's going to die. He's going to give his life for the Lord. And John is walking a few steps behind. And what does Peter do? He asked the question, well, what about John? Don't we do that? Jesus is dealing with us. We asked the question, well what about that guy? And Jesus says, I'll deal with johns. I want to deal with John, I'll deal with you as I need to deal with you. And Peter goes to proclaim the gospel throughout the world.
00:30:52
Speaker 2: What are those three words?
00:30:53
Speaker 1: He's going to get arrested in Rome and we got to take a break. I'll tell those three words when we come back, David Chadwick, and we will be right back.
00:31:29
Speaker 4: If you locked in it, you're gonna lock up. Keep if you walked him down, you're gonna lock out.
00:31:41
Speaker 2: Because just to mention of his name, just to mention of his name, just to mention.
00:31:49
Speaker 4: Of his name, everything can change everything.
00:31:53
Speaker 1: There's power in the name of Jesus. And when you choose to follow Jesus, you're willing to do anything and everything for him, even die for him. How everyone, I'm David Chadwick and this is one oh seven point nine FMWBT Charlotte FM News Talk. Welcome back to this show, and let's end the story about Saint Peter. Peter, Jesus says to him after the Resurrection, You're going to die for me. And Peter gave his life for the Lord, preaching the gospel all over the then Roman world, especially in the city of Rome, where he's arrested by Nero in sixty four a d. And Peter's with his wife named Perpetua, and she's arrested by the Roman guards, and she's being led to death. And as Peter watches his loved be led away, and I think, here about my wife, Marilyn of forty eight years, ed your wife of I know forty plus years, how much we love them and care for them, We've become one flesh. Peter's watching his wife being led away, and he doesn't break He doesn't call her by name. He simply says three words to her, Eddie ready. These three words Peter cried out to his wife as he knew she was being led away to her execution. He said, remember the Lord. Remember the Lord. Not don't be afraid or not I love you. I didn't call out her by name. He simply said remember the Lord. Because Peter understood something that we've lost today as people who love the Lord. He wasn't losing her. She was going home. Our true home, dear friends, is not here in this broken world. It's in the perfection of heaven. Clement of Alexandria, one of the early church fathers, recorded that Peter did not actually watch her go to her death because he was facing his own death as well. But he did cry out to her, remember the Lord. The point is that heaven is her fine home, it is our final home as well, and he knew absolutely that he would see her again. In his worst moment possible, he pointed her to the Lord. Now in just a few moments thereafter, they led Peter to his death, and remember ed, Peter did not want to be crucified in the same way that his Lord was crucified. How did that happen?
00:34:22
Speaker 2: He wasn't worthy.
00:34:23
Speaker 1: He didn't think he was worthy, So how did he choose upside down? Yeah, he chose to be crucified upside down on a cross because again he didn't think he was worthy to die in the same manner that his Lord had died. And now here we are, two thousand years later, and I share this story to remind all of us of this great truth that this world in its present broken state, with all the problems we've talked about in this show today and all the things that are surrounding us and swelling around us, folks, this world in its present broken state, is not our eternal home. So all of us, when we lose a loved one. If we are in the Lord should really say to them, I'll see you again. Say those three words, remember the Lord that our loved ones are really experiencing a homecoming, if you will. You know, it's interesting that a lot of animals in the world that they have a homing device, and they might get lost, but there's a homing device that brings them home. I think all of us have a homing device within us that says this place is not our home. Heaven is our home. And I think it was C. S. Lewis who said, if there's something within you that says you're not going to be satisfied here, there's got to be something else that will ultimately satisfy that feeling. And that feeling is we're not meant to live in these broken human bodies, with these broken human relationships around us, in this broken world that lives on the precipice of nuclear war every single day. This place is not our home. This place with all of its divisions between progressives and conservatives, this place with broken families and people who will continue to remain angry with one another, this place is not our eternal home. We have a homing device telling all of us, there's something else awaiting us. That death is a doorway to life, and we will see our loved ones again. That's why Peters said to Perpetua as she's being led away to her own execution. Remember the Lord. Remember the gift that Jesus gave us, the greatest of which is the gift of eternal life. And when we die, folks, I really believe in the twinkling of an eye, like Paul says in One Corinthians fifteen fifty two, our mortal bodies, broken and dying, are going to be suddenly changed in the twinkling of an eye. And that term in the twinkling of an eye is quicker than just an eyeblink. It is a zero point one to zero point four times one hundred kind of movement. That's how quickly we're going to be changed and given eternal resurrection, bodies that will never die, and they are the bodies that will live in forever. We'll be again with our loved ones. We have those same bodies. We're gonna live with them forever and enjoy heaven and what God has created for us. Folks, be like Peter today, Remember the Lord.
00:37:23
Speaker 2: You know all of us, David, all the listeners myself included, could think of someone we just recently lost and they're passing. They're passing. This is a sermon at a funeral that you're giving right now, but it's a sermon for all of us because those people that have left us part of us, have died our love for them. Remember, the Lord just gives us that hope. And you are the hope master well.
00:37:43
Speaker 1: Among the thousands of listeners I prayerfully have each week. I want to give hope because I think the world needs hope like never before. We tend to want to move toward despair, we move toward discouragement, we move toward negativism. We water those negative thoughts in our mind and they grow. And what's lost his hope. And I want to just continue to give people hope today as we do louse loved ones. I've lost my mom and my dad, my big brother and other friends as well. It's just a part of life. But you know what else is a part of life. It is the promise from Jesus that I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life. Then as you come to me, you'll come to the Father. He said to others. I am the resurrection and the life. He who lives in me will never die. So if you're in Jesus and he's been raised from the dead, you're going to be raised from the dead. As well as, like a caboose that's attached to an engine, it goes wherever the engine goes. If Jesus goes to Heaven and has a new resurrection body, so will we.
00:38:42
Speaker 2: As well as a little commercial, go back, folks to the podcast at David Chadwick's show. We did a whole show on Heaven about a month ago, so go check that one.
00:38:49
Speaker 1: My wife was with me, Marilyn, and I talked about it. We unfolded the realities of the teaching of Heaven that are there. So I hope that that little story about Peter and Perpetua gives you great hope. This man who is just like you and me, Peter, who disappointed the Lord and ran away from the Lord and betrayed the Lord. Jesus brought him back because he saw in Peter, not wishy washy Simon, but Peter the Rock, somebody who could have a strong, meaningful, beautiful, powerful faith. Dear friends, listen to this. Jesus doesn't look at who you are. He looks at who you can become. And when you have faith in your heart and you believe that Jesus is real, he starts to conform you to his image. He takes away bitterness and gives you hope. He takes away unbelief and gives you faith. He takes away despair and gives you a purpose and meaning in your future life. So continue to cling to Jesus, continue to believe that he is true, that there is absolute truth. Conserve those values in your own life, fight for them and vote for those truths as well. But also live in great hope today because Jesus loves you so much. Like Peter, hear the words that he spoke about Perpetua to all of us today as well. Remember the Lord. No matter what you're going through, remember the Lord. He is there to help you, sustain you, and give you strength as you move forward this day and forever. Father, be with everybody, help them continue to move toward you. You are truth and you are our life. In Jesus name. I pray this. Thank you all for listening. Love God and love your neighbor. Do those two things. You have a lifetime's worth of work to do. I'm David Chadwick talking with you all next week
