► Tell us about you and your podcast
I'm Morgan, I'm a content writer and student. My co-host is Brent and he is a sound and lighting technician.
► Why & how did you start this podcast?
I listen to sooo many podcasts, Brent listens to maybe one. We started the podcast because it's something we both wanted to try and there are few really great podcasts out there covering similar topics but we thought we could take a different approach.
My original podcast goal was six listeners, one called Brian. We've hit the 6 but no Brian in sight. We planned for ages but we finally released our first episode in January. It took ages to release; we recorded it 3 times!
► How'd you find the time and funding to do this podcast?
Our main episodes release on the 13th of every months (that's the book/movie comparison) and we try to release a mini episode every Saturday. I study and work from home so it is a little easier for me, Brent has to work around a pretty bonkers schedule so he has a little less to do with the mini episodes. We fund the podcast ourselves. Brent took on some extra work over the holiday period to pay for the set up equipment.
► What do you gain from podcasting?
We have an affiliate link that people can use to shop at the Book Depository but that's about it. Podcasting benefits for us are really that we get to play around with tthe equipment, I love researching and it helps me with my masters. We've also met some amazing podcasters who have been so generous and welcoming.
► How does your podcasting process look like?
We are hosted by Libsyn and use AudioTechnica pretty much everything. I use Audacity to edit. To find guests I often just post "anyone got 30 minutes?" or contact friendly podcasts directly. To prepare I do lots of reading and writing (though you probably can't tell). Also if I'm interviewing someone I make sure I've listened to or read their work. We live in rural Australia so in person isn't really an option. Skype is our weapon of choice.
► How do you market your show?
Most people find us from Twitter, but the Stitcher and iTunes pages see a bit of traffic too. We are trying not to promote too much on Facebook, but people do find our podcast through Facebook podcast groups. Social media is the most useful, especially specific recommendations.
► What advice would you share with aspiring (new) podcasters?
Get started as soon as you can, admit when you are wrong or could do better and don't spend too much time looking at your listener stats, it will drive you crazy. Helpful resources? Honestly friendly podcasters, make sure you forward that help to someone else getting started once you are established.
