00:00:00.479 --> 00:00:03.759
Welcome to season two of Relatable Catholic.
00:00:03.839 --> 00:00:12.560
We're back with new conversations, familiar faces, and the same heart for making the Catholic faith approachable, honest, and lived out in everyday life.
00:00:12.720 --> 00:00:18.079
Whether you've been here since day one or you're just finding us, we're so glad you're here.
00:00:18.320 --> 00:00:19.440
Welcome back.
00:00:20.079 --> 00:00:24.399
Hello, and welcome back to Relatable Catholic.
00:00:25.359 --> 00:00:32.320
I am just a small town girl living in a lonely world for real.
00:00:32.799 --> 00:00:34.880
Just a solo podcast today.
00:00:35.039 --> 00:00:37.359
It is just me, myself, and I.
00:00:37.520 --> 00:00:41.679
Well, Carl is here too, but he is resting on the couch.
00:00:42.000 --> 00:00:46.799
It's also like thundering and raining a little bit.
00:00:46.960 --> 00:00:48.479
So, oh, there's a big one.
00:00:48.640 --> 00:00:50.000
So I don't know.
00:00:50.079 --> 00:00:51.840
We'll see how this goes.
00:00:52.079 --> 00:00:57.359
It might be nice, like a little like nice ambiance in the background.
00:00:57.920 --> 00:01:02.000
Um, but anyways, welcome to this week's episode.
00:01:02.159 --> 00:01:05.359
It is just me, Katie, with you this week.
00:01:05.599 --> 00:01:06.319
Um, Mr.
00:01:06.560 --> 00:01:10.319
Till is embarking on his last week of summer school.
00:01:10.400 --> 00:01:11.920
So God bless him.
00:01:12.159 --> 00:01:17.760
Um, because man, do I not want to be teaching summer school?
00:01:18.159 --> 00:01:19.439
So he's almost done.
00:01:19.519 --> 00:01:21.280
So he's busy with that this week.
00:01:21.439 --> 00:01:25.359
And Angie is off on a family vacation.
00:01:26.000 --> 00:01:34.159
So she is busy with her family having fun, and Buddy and Annika are also on vacation.
00:01:34.799 --> 00:01:41.120
So that is why it is just me this week, and that's okay.
00:01:41.280 --> 00:01:42.959
So just me and Carl this week.
00:01:43.040 --> 00:01:47.760
Hopefully, Carl doesn't speak too much, but he looks pretty tired over there.
00:01:48.079 --> 00:01:56.159
Um, yeah, so we had a very busy transitional week this week.
00:01:56.319 --> 00:02:13.280
Um, this past week, as we have been leading up to for months um the big transition of our parishes and our priests has um come and now we're in it.
00:02:13.520 --> 00:02:16.879
So uh at the beginning of it, I was calling it gifing down the street.
00:02:17.120 --> 00:02:24.800
So we have gifted down the street right to where everything is gonna be.
00:02:24.960 --> 00:02:28.479
So gif journey in faith, that's what the program was called.
00:02:28.719 --> 00:02:35.199
Um, so we are yeah, just getting into the swing of things.
00:02:35.360 --> 00:02:42.000
So thank you for understanding we didn't have an episode last week because honestly, the podcast never even crossed my mind last week.
00:02:42.240 --> 00:02:45.520
It was busy, busy, busy.
00:02:45.840 --> 00:02:50.319
Um, so yeah, Father Andy is all packed up and gone.
00:02:50.400 --> 00:02:58.719
He would not let me help him pack because my idea of cleaning and packing is just like throwing everything away.
00:02:59.039 --> 00:03:05.680
And so he was worried I was gonna throw too much stuff away, so he wouldn't let me let me help, which is fine.
00:03:05.919 --> 00:03:15.120
Um, but we did have a really fun our parish had um a going away party uh last like see the Friday before he left, and it was awesome.
00:03:15.360 --> 00:03:20.960
We had mass and steaks, sandwiches, and a live band.
00:03:21.680 --> 00:03:23.840
It was yeah, it was really fun.
00:03:24.080 --> 00:03:35.520
Um there were over 500 people who attended, so it was really, really a good night, and it was just fun just seeing everybody in like one place.
00:03:36.000 --> 00:03:38.560
Um so yeah, it was fun.
00:03:38.879 --> 00:03:46.000
And so that that chapter is officially officially closed.
00:03:46.240 --> 00:04:09.280
Um so uh last Tuesday was when everything the big change, um a historic change, uh, where all of the priests were moving at at one time because their um their assignment started at their new parish at noon.
00:04:09.439 --> 00:04:15.680
So it was their goal to be at their noon par at their new parish by noon.
00:04:16.000 --> 00:04:33.360
Now I don't know if all of the priests managed to get to their new to their new um their new homes by noon, but uh I know they all tried because a lot of them like you don't think like it's like oh well yeah, just like go.
00:04:33.600 --> 00:04:37.199
But a lot of them had like hours to drive.
00:04:37.360 --> 00:04:41.040
Um and you know, moving all their stuff.
00:04:41.279 --> 00:04:53.839
Um yeah, so uh you probably like don't really think about it, but there's actually a ton of moving pieces when it comes to um priests moving.
00:04:53.920 --> 00:05:01.839
So especially this one because there were so many priests moving um just that that one day specifically.
00:05:02.079 --> 00:05:20.160
So for us in Bellevue, uh we had there were a bunch of um strong men who um helped Father Andy on Monday night move all of his stuff out and get it all packed in the trailer so he could take off on Tuesday morning.
00:05:20.399 --> 00:05:28.319
And then so Father Andy left around nine on Tuesday morning to get to his new parish.
00:05:28.800 --> 00:05:31.120
And then the ladies came in.
00:05:31.199 --> 00:05:43.120
I think there were probably around 30 ladies that um uh from the parish who came and we scrubbed the rectory from top to bottom.
00:05:43.279 --> 00:05:58.399
Um it I don't think it's been done for many years because like especially like the last transition between Father Gross and Father Andy, it was a really quick transition, um, like within a couple weeks.
00:05:58.480 --> 00:06:09.839
So there wasn't really a lot of like time to plan and make this all work, but um it worked this time and we had a ton of help like cleaning windows, cleaning.
00:06:10.000 --> 00:06:16.240
I mean, I was in the kitchen and we took every piece of the refrigerator out and cleaned it.
00:06:16.480 --> 00:06:28.639
Um, so we just really wanted um our new priest, Father Jacob, to come to come to our parish with uh a really nice clean blank slate.
00:06:29.120 --> 00:06:33.920
Um, so there was there was a lot of people there helping that day too.
00:06:34.000 --> 00:06:45.120
And then that afternoon, that moving crew had to come back because it was time to move in our new priest to um the parish.
00:06:45.360 --> 00:06:53.759
So uh in our pastorate, we have um two new priests, Father Ray Burkle, and he's actually we're the Makogata pastorate.
00:06:53.920 --> 00:06:59.199
So he's living in Makokoda, and then uh in Bellevue at St.
00:06:59.439 --> 00:07:04.879
Joe's, we have Father Jacob living at our our rectory um in St.
00:07:05.120 --> 00:07:05.680
Joe's.
00:07:05.920 --> 00:07:12.079
So there were there were so many people who who helped.
00:07:12.319 --> 00:07:20.000
Um, and it was really refreshing to see um just how many people wanted to help and were willing to help.
00:07:20.160 --> 00:07:27.040
Uh, so I hope that we can keep that spirit as we continue um to transition.
00:07:27.199 --> 00:07:39.519
So, and I know like over the next few weeks, like everything will start to get settled in and um some normalcy in the new schedule, and and it'll all be good.
00:07:39.680 --> 00:07:43.360
So I think you know, all these things they they take time.
00:07:44.079 --> 00:07:50.079
So I wanted to talk about first about the questions that I continue to get.
00:07:50.319 --> 00:07:53.279
Um, the first question is, how's Father Andy?
00:07:53.519 --> 00:07:56.240
He's fine, he's good, he settled.
00:07:56.560 --> 00:08:01.519
He claims he's unpacking, but I mean, maybe he really is.
00:08:01.600 --> 00:08:02.879
I hope he really is.
00:08:03.279 --> 00:08:04.319
Um, he's good.
00:08:04.639 --> 00:08:09.279
He is, I think, settling in to his new role too.
00:08:09.439 --> 00:08:16.480
So he is the pastor of his pastorate, so he'll have um, he'll have a little more of the heavy load on him.
00:08:16.639 --> 00:08:20.240
The next question is always have you met the new guys?
00:08:21.120 --> 00:08:25.519
Um I have met both the new priests um in our pastorate.
00:08:25.759 --> 00:08:28.879
Father Ray had mass last week Tuesday night.
00:08:28.959 --> 00:08:33.279
Um, and then Father Jacob had our masses.
00:08:33.600 --> 00:08:38.639
Let's see, we did Thursday morning, and then I attended Saturday night mass.
00:08:38.879 --> 00:08:40.799
So um, yes, I've met both of them.
00:08:40.879 --> 00:08:47.200
They are lovely, and I I've really enjoyed the interactions I've had with them so far.
00:08:47.440 --> 00:08:49.679
Um, and I'm excited.
00:08:49.840 --> 00:09:00.080
Uh, change is not easy for me, and I will say I am having a harder time than I anticipated I would.
00:09:00.639 --> 00:09:10.960
I um, you know, you really think you're prepared for all of this, and then it happens and yeah, it's different, and I'm working on it.
00:09:11.120 --> 00:09:28.080
I'm really excited to start working with the new priests on different things, and I'm trying to be as helpful as I can uh because I forget how much that they don't know about like even like the physical buildings.
00:09:28.480 --> 00:09:34.080
And these two priests that we have have seven buildings that they have to get used to.
00:09:34.320 --> 00:09:45.919
Um, so I I kind of like vacillate between like I don't want to be overly helpful, like okay, like we get it.
00:09:46.080 --> 00:09:52.399
And I also don't want to be not helpful enough that like it's overwhelming.
00:09:52.639 --> 00:09:57.039
So I myself am trying to find a balance in that.
00:09:57.200 --> 00:10:08.240
So I was helping on Saturday night um with so Father Jacob already has had to have a um a wedding already too, so he really jumped right in.
00:10:08.399 --> 00:10:10.879
So on Saturday there was a wedding and then mass.
00:10:10.960 --> 00:10:18.320
Um Saturday evening, the vitral mass, and I was doing different things and switching things and getting ready.
00:10:18.399 --> 00:10:30.720
I was sacristan, and then um I led father to the confessional, and then I got thinking about it because the the confessional light wasn't on to show that he was in there, and it's like, you know what?
00:10:30.879 --> 00:10:33.919
I bet he doesn't even know where the light is.
00:10:34.240 --> 00:10:38.080
Um, so I helped him turn on the light.
00:10:38.320 --> 00:10:57.440
But uh yeah, there's just little things that it's like, wow, like they really, this is such a big like we like I think I keep selfishly thinking about myself, like, oh, like this is such a big change for me, but also forgetting like what a big change it is for for these priests.
00:10:57.600 --> 00:10:59.759
Like I didn't have to move anything.
00:11:00.080 --> 00:11:17.360
I stayed right where I was, and they came to me and they really, I know, like it is their vocation, it's their their vow of obedience, but it's still like a really big deal to leave everything that you've known for the last how many years and kind of like start over.
00:11:17.600 --> 00:11:23.120
So um that's really something that we need to to keep in mind too.
00:11:23.440 --> 00:11:43.919
One thing that I've really been trying to reiterate to people and like even myself is that I'm really hoping that people aren't going to look for like characteristics of Father Andy in Father Ray and Father Jacob because we're all different people.
00:11:44.240 --> 00:11:56.480
Like uh Father Andy had his own like unique qualities that we loved, and now we need to find the unique qualities that we love about our new priests.
00:11:56.720 --> 00:12:28.960
So not going in with any expectations of like how they're going to be or what's going to happen, I think is um is our biggest, like our biggest task going into this is just like going in with an open mind, going in with grace that that these are different people with different gifts, different talents, different characteristics, and um, and not like judging them by something that we've known in the past.
00:12:29.120 --> 00:12:32.159
It sort of reminds me of when Father Cruzy left.
00:12:32.240 --> 00:12:38.159
So Father Phil Cruzy was at our parish um for quite a while and he was a beloved priest.
00:12:38.320 --> 00:12:39.600
I love Father Cruzy.
00:12:39.679 --> 00:12:44.960
Um, he really made an impact on our parish and our school.
00:12:45.200 --> 00:13:03.120
And I remember thinking sort of like the same thing when Father Cruzy left, like, oh, I feel really bad for the priest coming in because we have such high expectations because we love Father Cruzy so much that, you know, like who's gonna fill his shoes?
00:13:03.360 --> 00:13:07.039
Like, who nobody ever be the same as Father Cruzy?
00:13:07.200 --> 00:13:15.519
And um, and sort of feeling like the same thing right now is that it's really important for us to go in within with an open mind and an open heart.
00:13:15.679 --> 00:13:27.759
I really feel a calling for us to to be as welcoming and open-minded as we can in our new in our new pastorate, because I think that's that's where where God is calling us.
00:13:27.919 --> 00:13:37.360
I really loved um Father Jacob's message this weekend was because it's a big deal, like everything, all of the changes, it's a big deal.
00:13:37.519 --> 00:13:49.600
And there are a lot of different emotions, and and his message was like, if you're feeling these like anger, those kind of emotions, sadness, like it you have to go to Jesus with it.
00:13:49.759 --> 00:13:58.639
And if you're feeling happy, excited, um, go to Jesus with it, that Jesus should be the first, the first call in those feelings.
00:13:58.720 --> 00:14:01.360
And that's actually something that I've been working on too.
00:14:01.600 --> 00:14:17.679
Um actually with Father Andy in the confessional, that was one thing he um he was telling me, like it that, you know, when it when it like I I think all these things and complaining about these things, but I like I haven't brought them to God yet.
00:14:17.759 --> 00:14:25.360
Like I've telling other people, I'm like bringing them to the confessional, but yet like I haven't worked it through with God yet.
00:14:25.519 --> 00:14:32.480
So um I really thought that was a good message and it really tied in with what what I'm also also working on.
00:14:32.799 --> 00:14:42.320
Um I really, I really do think that this is um this is an opportunity to to trust God's plan.
00:14:42.399 --> 00:14:59.919
And I've been saying this all along that like if nothing else, this is this is a way to show to show like this is a physical way to show God that we trust because there is sort of like um a piece of suffering in it.
00:15:00.159 --> 00:15:07.840
Um and that and through so it's almost always through suffering that we grow closer, closer to the Lord.
00:15:08.159 --> 00:15:15.759
So um, yeah, so I I think there are opportunities for us to deepen our faith in this process.
00:15:16.159 --> 00:15:30.960
Um I think right now, like, especially like if you're feeling maybe like you don't want to go to mass anymore, or or there's no mass at my a weekend mass at my parish.
00:15:31.200 --> 00:15:34.399
So I I'm just gonna go on the weekday.
00:15:34.639 --> 00:15:43.759
Um, which the week weekday mass is beautiful, but it is not, it doesn't count as your weekend obligation or your Sunday obligation.
00:15:43.919 --> 00:15:54.240
So um weekday mass is just an extra, but it's actually the Sunday, the Saturday vigil and the Sunday Mass that are your your obligation to go to.
00:15:54.399 --> 00:16:08.320
Um, but so I think that it's a call to just keep persevering, even if you don't really want to, or you're not connecting, or you don't feel like you're home yet, um in in a different parish.
00:16:08.559 --> 00:16:13.519
I really, really pray that you can keep persevering and just just keep going.
00:16:13.919 --> 00:16:17.120
Um, because I think things take time.
00:16:17.440 --> 00:16:26.559
And I think through persevering, it's just like when God asks us to persevere in prayer, um, that you know, like keep coming, keep asking.
00:16:26.799 --> 00:16:28.879
That's what the Lord asks of us in prayer.
00:16:28.960 --> 00:16:36.000
And I think that's what he's asking us of right now to to keep coming, keep showing up, um, keep growing.
00:16:36.320 --> 00:17:01.600
And uh this is a time that maybe we're being called to step out of our comfort zones, maybe to take on a role in in the parish that we we haven't before, whether that's like lecturing or sacristaning or like becoming an usher, or maybe you're really passionate about party planning, and maybe you want to do some social events or something, plans and social events.
00:17:01.679 --> 00:17:05.680
Um, I think that this is a good opportunity to do that.
00:17:06.079 --> 00:17:08.240
Um, definitely meeting new people.
00:17:08.400 --> 00:17:22.400
I think this is, I think probably the most important thing is is being welcoming and um maybe inviting someone to to church because there's there's a good chance that they feel displaced.
00:17:22.799 --> 00:17:30.240
And and it sounds really uncomfortable even to even as I'm saying it, like I'm not gonna go ask someone.
00:17:30.480 --> 00:17:51.920
Um, but if the opportunity arises, I think that, yeah, I think that is something good that we could do right now is to invite someone to mass because it might just be them going or just attending one time for them or for anyone to realize that okay, like it's not that bad.
00:17:52.000 --> 00:17:56.240
Like Jesus is still there in the Eucharist, and that's and that's why I'm here.
00:17:56.480 --> 00:18:00.319
Um, or maybe it's taking on more of a leadership role.
00:18:00.640 --> 00:18:13.200
We really need to pray for our parishes, we need to pray for our priests, especially as they transition, um, because as hard it is as it is for us, it's I think even harder on them.
00:18:13.519 --> 00:18:19.200
So um make sure you keep them in your prayers and and help in any way you can.
00:18:19.599 --> 00:18:42.480
Um, I've been really thinking lately too about focusing on the blessings and instead of like all of the things that are changing, um, to think about all of the good things that um I one thing this weekend, mass, I went Saturday night, it was packed, and it looked like Sunday was just as full.
00:18:42.720 --> 00:18:48.240
So um there are beautiful things in in this in this transition.
00:18:48.480 --> 00:18:57.599
Um, it is beautiful to see the church so full, and um, it was awesome to see so many people together at Father Andy's farewell reception.
00:18:57.920 --> 00:19:05.039
So, like I do think that as hard as it is, there are good things that that are definitely gonna come out of it.
00:19:05.279 --> 00:19:22.319
And um, I think that's that's all we can do right now is really focus on the good things and and how and really listening to God's call and how how we can be disciples, how we can be, how we can better serve um in our communities and our parish communities.
00:19:22.640 --> 00:19:28.400
So um, yeah, that's I don't have anything else to talk about.
00:19:28.640 --> 00:19:34.559
That's really the only thing that has been um has been happening.
00:19:34.880 --> 00:19:46.319
And uh I think I really liked how Father Jacob said, like it's okay however you're feeling, because like I and it it changes every day for me.
00:19:46.480 --> 00:19:59.680
Some days I'm excited about it, and you know, like the like just the the transition and you know the the school year ahead and and then other days it makes me cry.
00:20:00.000 --> 00:20:20.000
So it just it just I think it's okay however however we're feeling, but I think just showing up and persevering is is good and finding your community, um, you know, relying on your church community because everybody is going through the same thing.
00:20:20.240 --> 00:20:30.400
So um just really working together, coming together, and and making making the most out of this, out of um, out of this change.
00:20:30.640 --> 00:20:38.160
Okay, well, um I did get a new car, a new ish car, the newest car I've ever had.
00:20:38.480 --> 00:20:41.279
And I have many can you relays this week.
00:20:41.440 --> 00:20:46.079
Um, so I have never had this nice of a car.
00:20:46.799 --> 00:20:52.880
And I have just been trying to think of any excuse to drive around.
00:20:53.039 --> 00:20:58.559
I went to Target, I've been to, oh, I've got an Amazon return.
00:20:58.640 --> 00:21:00.000
I better go take that back.
00:21:00.079 --> 00:21:04.079
Oh, you know, like, oh, I'm like, I I guess I should go go groceries.
00:21:04.400 --> 00:21:06.319
So um, that's a can you relate?
00:21:06.400 --> 00:21:08.400
I got a new car and I'm so excited.
00:21:08.640 --> 00:21:13.599
I'm really mostly excited about the button to open the back hatch.
00:21:14.079 --> 00:21:18.799
So when I order groceries, I can just I don't have to get out of my car at all.
00:21:19.039 --> 00:21:23.279
I do like struggle to make small talks sometimes.
00:21:23.599 --> 00:21:29.359
So I am excited to just hit that button and then hit the button again.
00:21:29.519 --> 00:21:31.279
Um, I'm really excited about that.
00:21:31.440 --> 00:21:36.720
So um, yeah, I uh am so excited.
00:21:36.880 --> 00:21:38.640
My garden is flourishing.
00:21:38.960 --> 00:21:42.960
I have already harvested a couple cucumbers.
00:21:43.200 --> 00:21:46.799
I think this is everybody's like case this year.
00:21:46.960 --> 00:21:47.440
I don't know.
00:21:47.599 --> 00:21:52.400
I'm gonna have so many cucumbers, I don't know what I'm gonna do with them all.
00:21:52.640 --> 00:21:54.319
So that's exciting.
00:21:54.480 --> 00:21:56.400
My flowers are blooming.
00:21:56.880 --> 00:22:03.519
I every day I go out and I just look in my garden and think how beautiful it is.
00:22:03.680 --> 00:22:08.240
I don't even like cucumbers that much, but I guess I'm gonna learn really learn to like them.
00:22:08.480 --> 00:22:16.480
So I guess my can you relate is do you ever like if you've gotten a new car, just like just want to drive it everywhere?
00:22:16.799 --> 00:22:23.599
And if you have a garden, do you eagerly go outside every morning just to see what's grown?
00:22:23.839 --> 00:22:31.039
It like, even though like I know it's not time to harvest it yet, but like I just want to go out and like look at it, admire it.
00:22:31.359 --> 00:22:34.000
Um, yeah, so that's all for this week.
00:22:34.160 --> 00:22:36.960
A nice short one to get you through this Thursday.
00:22:37.200 --> 00:22:41.119
So that's all for this week, and we will catch you next week.
00:22:41.359 --> 00:22:47.680
As always, we are praying for you and hoping that you have a great week.
00:22:48.240 --> 00:22:48.799
Bye.
00:00:00.479 --> 00:00:03.759
Welcome to season two of Relatable Catholic.
00:00:03.839 --> 00:00:12.560
We're back with new conversations, familiar faces, and the same heart for making the Catholic faith approachable, honest, and lived out in everyday life.
00:00:12.720 --> 00:00:18.079
Whether you've been here since day one or you're just finding us, we're so glad you're here.
00:00:18.320 --> 00:00:19.440
Welcome back.
00:00:20.079 --> 00:00:24.399
Hello, and welcome back to Relatable Catholic.
00:00:25.359 --> 00:00:32.320
I am just a small town girl living in a lonely world for real.
00:00:32.799 --> 00:00:34.880
Just a solo podcast today.
00:00:35.039 --> 00:00:37.359
It is just me, myself, and I.
00:00:37.520 --> 00:00:41.679
Well, Carl is here too, but he is resting on the couch.
00:00:42.000 --> 00:00:46.799
It's also like thundering and raining a little bit.
00:00:46.960 --> 00:00:48.479
So, oh, there's a big one.
00:00:48.640 --> 00:00:50.000
So I don't know.
00:00:50.079 --> 00:00:51.840
We'll see how this goes.
00:00:52.079 --> 00:00:57.359
It might be nice, like a little like nice ambiance in the background.
00:00:57.920 --> 00:01:02.000
Um, but anyways, welcome to this week's episode.
00:01:02.159 --> 00:01:05.359
It is just me, Katie, with you this week.
00:01:05.599 --> 00:01:06.319
Um, Mr.
00:01:06.560 --> 00:01:10.319
Till is embarking on his last week of summer school.
00:01:10.400 --> 00:01:11.920
So God bless him.
00:01:12.159 --> 00:01:17.760
Um, because man, do I not want to be teaching summer school?
00:01:18.159 --> 00:01:19.439
So he's almost done.
00:01:19.519 --> 00:01:21.280
So he's busy with that this week.
00:01:21.439 --> 00:01:25.359
And Angie is off on a family vacation.
00:01:26.000 --> 00:01:34.159
So she is busy with her family having fun, and Buddy and Annika are also on vacation.
00:01:34.799 --> 00:01:41.120
So that is why it is just me this week, and that's okay.
00:01:41.280 --> 00:01:42.959
So just me and Carl this week.
00:01:43.040 --> 00:01:47.760
Hopefully, Carl doesn't speak too much, but he looks pretty tired over there.
00:01:48.079 --> 00:01:56.159
Um, yeah, so we had a very busy transitional week this week.
00:01:56.319 --> 00:02:13.280
Um, this past week, as we have been leading up to for months um the big transition of our parishes and our priests has um come and now we're in it.
00:02:13.520 --> 00:02:16.879
So uh at the beginning of it, I was calling it gifing down the street.
00:02:17.120 --> 00:02:24.800
So we have gifted down the street right to where everything is gonna be.
00:02:24.960 --> 00:02:28.479
So gif journey in faith, that's what the program was called.
00:02:28.719 --> 00:02:35.199
Um, so we are yeah, just getting into the swing of things.
00:02:35.360 --> 00:02:42.000
So thank you for understanding we didn't have an episode last week because honestly, the podcast never even crossed my mind last week.
00:02:42.240 --> 00:02:45.520
It was busy, busy, busy.
00:02:45.840 --> 00:02:50.319
Um, so yeah, Father Andy is all packed up and gone.
00:02:50.400 --> 00:02:58.719
He would not let me help him pack because my idea of cleaning and packing is just like throwing everything away.
00:02:59.039 --> 00:03:05.680
And so he was worried I was gonna throw too much stuff away, so he wouldn't let me let me help, which is fine.
00:03:05.919 --> 00:03:15.120
Um, but we did have a really fun our parish had um a going away party uh last like see the Friday before he left, and it was awesome.
00:03:15.360 --> 00:03:20.960
We had mass and steaks, sandwiches, and a live band.
00:03:21.680 --> 00:03:23.840
It was yeah, it was really fun.
00:03:24.080 --> 00:03:35.520
Um there were over 500 people who attended, so it was really, really a good night, and it was just fun just seeing everybody in like one place.
00:03:36.000 --> 00:03:38.560
Um so yeah, it was fun.
00:03:38.879 --> 00:03:46.000
And so that that chapter is officially officially closed.
00:03:46.240 --> 00:04:09.280
Um so uh last Tuesday was when everything the big change, um a historic change, uh, where all of the priests were moving at at one time because their um their assignment started at their new parish at noon.
00:04:09.439 --> 00:04:15.680
So it was their goal to be at their noon par at their new parish by noon.
00:04:16.000 --> 00:04:33.360
Now I don't know if all of the priests managed to get to their new to their new um their new homes by noon, but uh I know they all tried because a lot of them like you don't think like it's like oh well yeah, just like go.
00:04:33.600 --> 00:04:37.199
But a lot of them had like hours to drive.
00:04:37.360 --> 00:04:41.040
Um and you know, moving all their stuff.
00:04:41.279 --> 00:04:53.839
Um yeah, so uh you probably like don't really think about it, but there's actually a ton of moving pieces when it comes to um priests moving.
00:04:53.920 --> 00:05:01.839
So especially this one because there were so many priests moving um just that that one day specifically.
00:05:02.079 --> 00:05:20.160
So for us in Bellevue, uh we had there were a bunch of um strong men who um helped Father Andy on Monday night move all of his stuff out and get it all packed in the trailer so he could take off on Tuesday morning.
00:05:20.399 --> 00:05:28.319
And then so Father Andy left around nine on Tuesday morning to get to his new parish.
00:05:28.800 --> 00:05:31.120
And then the ladies came in.
00:05:31.199 --> 00:05:43.120
I think there were probably around 30 ladies that um uh from the parish who came and we scrubbed the rectory from top to bottom.
00:05:43.279 --> 00:05:58.399
Um it I don't think it's been done for many years because like especially like the last transition between Father Gross and Father Andy, it was a really quick transition, um, like within a couple weeks.
00:05:58.480 --> 00:06:09.839
So there wasn't really a lot of like time to plan and make this all work, but um it worked this time and we had a ton of help like cleaning windows, cleaning.
00:06:10.000 --> 00:06:16.240
I mean, I was in the kitchen and we took every piece of the refrigerator out and cleaned it.
00:06:16.480 --> 00:06:28.639
Um, so we just really wanted um our new priest, Father Jacob, to come to come to our parish with uh a really nice clean blank slate.
00:06:29.120 --> 00:06:33.920
Um, so there was there was a lot of people there helping that day too.
00:06:34.000 --> 00:06:45.120
And then that afternoon, that moving crew had to come back because it was time to move in our new priest to um the parish.
00:06:45.360 --> 00:06:53.759
So uh in our pastorate, we have um two new priests, Father Ray Burkle, and he's actually we're the Makogata pastorate.
00:06:53.920 --> 00:06:59.199
So he's living in Makokoda, and then uh in Bellevue at St.
00:06:59.439 --> 00:07:04.879
Joe's, we have Father Jacob living at our our rectory um in St.
00:07:05.120 --> 00:07:05.680
Joe's.
00:07:05.920 --> 00:07:12.079
So there were there were so many people who who helped.
00:07:12.319 --> 00:07:20.000
Um, and it was really refreshing to see um just how many people wanted to help and were willing to help.
00:07:20.160 --> 00:07:27.040
Uh, so I hope that we can keep that spirit as we continue um to transition.
00:07:27.199 --> 00:07:39.519
So, and I know like over the next few weeks, like everything will start to get settled in and um some normalcy in the new schedule, and and it'll all be good.
00:07:39.680 --> 00:07:43.360
So I think you know, all these things they they take time.
00:07:44.079 --> 00:07:50.079
So I wanted to talk about first about the questions that I continue to get.
00:07:50.319 --> 00:07:53.279
Um, the first question is, how's Father Andy?
00:07:53.519 --> 00:07:56.240
He's fine, he's good, he settled.
00:07:56.560 --> 00:08:01.519
He claims he's unpacking, but I mean, maybe he really is.
00:08:01.600 --> 00:08:02.879
I hope he really is.
00:08:03.279 --> 00:08:04.319
Um, he's good.
00:08:04.639 --> 00:08:09.279
He is, I think, settling in to his new role too.
00:08:09.439 --> 00:08:16.480
So he is the pastor of his pastorate, so he'll have um, he'll have a little more of the heavy load on him.
00:08:16.639 --> 00:08:20.240
The next question is always have you met the new guys?
00:08:21.120 --> 00:08:25.519
Um I have met both the new priests um in our pastorate.
00:08:25.759 --> 00:08:28.879
Father Ray had mass last week Tuesday night.
00:08:28.959 --> 00:08:33.279
Um, and then Father Jacob had our masses.
00:08:33.600 --> 00:08:38.639
Let's see, we did Thursday morning, and then I attended Saturday night mass.
00:08:38.879 --> 00:08:40.799
So um, yes, I've met both of them.
00:08:40.879 --> 00:08:47.200
They are lovely, and I I've really enjoyed the interactions I've had with them so far.
00:08:47.440 --> 00:08:49.679
Um, and I'm excited.
00:08:49.840 --> 00:09:00.080
Uh, change is not easy for me, and I will say I am having a harder time than I anticipated I would.
00:09:00.639 --> 00:09:10.960
I um, you know, you really think you're prepared for all of this, and then it happens and yeah, it's different, and I'm working on it.
00:09:11.120 --> 00:09:28.080
I'm really excited to start working with the new priests on different things, and I'm trying to be as helpful as I can uh because I forget how much that they don't know about like even like the physical buildings.
00:09:28.480 --> 00:09:34.080
And these two priests that we have have seven buildings that they have to get used to.
00:09:34.320 --> 00:09:45.919
Um, so I I kind of like vacillate between like I don't want to be overly helpful, like okay, like we get it.
00:09:46.080 --> 00:09:52.399
And I also don't want to be not helpful enough that like it's overwhelming.
00:09:52.639 --> 00:09:57.039
So I myself am trying to find a balance in that.
00:09:57.200 --> 00:10:08.240
So I was helping on Saturday night um with so Father Jacob already has had to have a um a wedding already too, so he really jumped right in.
00:10:08.399 --> 00:10:10.879
So on Saturday there was a wedding and then mass.
00:10:10.960 --> 00:10:18.320
Um Saturday evening, the vitral mass, and I was doing different things and switching things and getting ready.
00:10:18.399 --> 00:10:30.720
I was sacristan, and then um I led father to the confessional, and then I got thinking about it because the the confessional light wasn't on to show that he was in there, and it's like, you know what?
00:10:30.879 --> 00:10:33.919
I bet he doesn't even know where the light is.
00:10:34.240 --> 00:10:38.080
Um, so I helped him turn on the light.
00:10:38.320 --> 00:10:57.440
But uh yeah, there's just little things that it's like, wow, like they really, this is such a big like we like I think I keep selfishly thinking about myself, like, oh, like this is such a big change for me, but also forgetting like what a big change it is for for these priests.
00:10:57.600 --> 00:10:59.759
Like I didn't have to move anything.
00:11:00.080 --> 00:11:17.360
I stayed right where I was, and they came to me and they really, I know, like it is their vocation, it's their their vow of obedience, but it's still like a really big deal to leave everything that you've known for the last how many years and kind of like start over.
00:11:17.600 --> 00:11:23.120
So um that's really something that we need to to keep in mind too.
00:11:23.440 --> 00:11:43.919
One thing that I've really been trying to reiterate to people and like even myself is that I'm really hoping that people aren't going to look for like characteristics of Father Andy in Father Ray and Father Jacob because we're all different people.
00:11:44.240 --> 00:11:56.480
Like uh Father Andy had his own like unique qualities that we loved, and now we need to find the unique qualities that we love about our new priests.
00:11:56.720 --> 00:12:28.960
00:12:29.120 --> 00:12:32.159
It sort of reminds me of when Father Cruzy left.
00:12:32.240 --> 00:12:38.159
So Father Phil Cruzy was at our parish um for quite a while and he was a beloved priest.
00:12:38.320 --> 00:12:39.600
I love Father Cruzy.
00:12:39.679 --> 00:12:44.960
Um, he really made an impact on our parish and our school.
00:12:45.200 --> 00:13:03.120
And I remember thinking sort of like the same thing when Father Cruzy left, like, oh, I feel really bad for the priest coming in because we have such high expectations because we love Father Cruzy so much that, you know, like who's gonna fill his shoes?
00:13:03.360 --> 00:13:07.039
Like, who nobody ever be the same as Father Cruzy?
00:13:07.200 --> 00:13:15.519
And um, and sort of feeling like the same thing right now is that it's really important for us to go in within with an open mind and an open heart.
00:13:15.679 --> 00:13:27.759
I really feel a calling for us to to be as welcoming and open-minded as we can in our new in our new pastorate, because I think that's that's where where God is calling us.
00:13:27.919 --> 00:13:37.360
I really loved um Father Jacob's message this weekend was because it's a big deal, like everything, all of the changes, it's a big deal.
00:13:37.519 --> 00:13:49.600
And there are a lot of different emotions, and and his message was like, if you're feeling these like anger, those kind of emotions, sadness, like it you have to go to Jesus with it.
00:13:49.759 --> 00:13:58.639
And if you're feeling happy, excited, um, go to Jesus with it, that Jesus should be the first, the first call in those feelings.
00:13:58.720 --> 00:14:01.360
And that's actually something that I've been working on too.
00:14:01.600 --> 00:14:17.679
Um actually with Father Andy in the confessional, that was one thing he um he was telling me, like it that, you know, when it when it like I I think all these things and complaining about these things, but I like I haven't brought them to God yet.
00:14:17.759 --> 00:14:25.360
Like I've telling other people, I'm like bringing them to the confessional, but yet like I haven't worked it through with God yet.
00:14:25.519 --> 00:14:32.480
So um I really thought that was a good message and it really tied in with what what I'm also also working on.
00:14:32.799 --> 00:14:42.320
Um I really, I really do think that this is um this is an opportunity to to trust God's plan.
00:14:42.399 --> 00:14:59.919
And I've been saying this all along that like if nothing else, this is this is a way to show to show like this is a physical way to show God that we trust because there is sort of like um a piece of suffering in it.
00:15:00.159 --> 00:15:07.840
Um and that and through so it's almost always through suffering that we grow closer, closer to the Lord.
00:15:08.159 --> 00:15:15.759
So um, yeah, so I I think there are opportunities for us to deepen our faith in this process.
00:15:16.159 --> 00:15:30.960
Um I think right now, like, especially like if you're feeling maybe like you don't want to go to mass anymore, or or there's no mass at my a weekend mass at my parish.
00:15:31.200 --> 00:15:34.399
So I I'm just gonna go on the weekday.
00:15:34.639 --> 00:15:43.759
Um, which the week weekday mass is beautiful, but it is not, it doesn't count as your weekend obligation or your Sunday obligation.
00:15:43.919 --> 00:15:54.240
So um weekday mass is just an extra, but it's actually the Sunday, the Saturday vigil and the Sunday Mass that are your your obligation to go to.
00:15:54.399 --> 00:16:08.320
Um, but so I think that it's a call to just keep persevering, even if you don't really want to, or you're not connecting, or you don't feel like you're home yet, um in in a different parish.
00:16:08.559 --> 00:16:13.519
I really, really pray that you can keep persevering and just just keep going.
00:16:13.919 --> 00:16:17.120
Um, because I think things take time.
00:16:17.440 --> 00:16:26.559
And I think through persevering, it's just like when God asks us to persevere in prayer, um, that you know, like keep coming, keep asking.
00:16:26.799 --> 00:16:28.879
That's what the Lord asks of us in prayer.
00:16:28.960 --> 00:16:36.000
And I think that's what he's asking us of right now to to keep coming, keep showing up, um, keep growing.
00:16:36.320 --> 00:17:01.600
00:17:01.679 --> 00:17:05.680
Um, I think that this is a good opportunity to do that.
00:17:06.079 --> 00:17:08.240
Um, definitely meeting new people.
00:17:08.400 --> 00:17:22.400
I think this is, I think probably the most important thing is is being welcoming and um maybe inviting someone to to church because there's there's a good chance that they feel displaced.
00:17:22.799 --> 00:17:30.240
And and it sounds really uncomfortable even to even as I'm saying it, like I'm not gonna go ask someone.
00:17:30.480 --> 00:17:51.920
Um, but if the opportunity arises, I think that, yeah, I think that is something good that we could do right now is to invite someone to mass because it might just be them going or just attending one time for them or for anyone to realize that okay, like it's not that bad.
00:17:52.000 --> 00:17:56.240
Like Jesus is still there in the Eucharist, and that's and that's why I'm here.
00:17:56.480 --> 00:18:00.319
Um, or maybe it's taking on more of a leadership role.
00:18:00.640 --> 00:18:13.200
We really need to pray for our parishes, we need to pray for our priests, especially as they transition, um, because as hard it is as it is for us, it's I think even harder on them.
00:18:13.519 --> 00:18:19.200
So um make sure you keep them in your prayers and and help in any way you can.
00:18:19.599 --> 00:18:42.480
Um, I've been really thinking lately too about focusing on the blessings and instead of like all of the things that are changing, um, to think about all of the good things that um I one thing this weekend, mass, I went Saturday night, it was packed, and it looked like Sunday was just as full.
00:18:42.720 --> 00:18:48.240
So um there are beautiful things in in this in this transition.
00:18:48.480 --> 00:18:57.599
Um, it is beautiful to see the church so full, and um, it was awesome to see so many people together at Father Andy's farewell reception.
00:18:57.920 --> 00:19:05.039
So, like I do think that as hard as it is, there are good things that that are definitely gonna come out of it.
00:19:05.279 --> 00:19:22.319
And um, I think that's that's all we can do right now is really focus on the good things and and how and really listening to God's call and how how we can be disciples, how we can be, how we can better serve um in our communities and our parish communities.
00:19:22.640 --> 00:19:28.400
So um, yeah, that's I don't have anything else to talk about.
00:19:28.640 --> 00:19:34.559
That's really the only thing that has been um has been happening.
00:19:34.880 --> 00:19:46.319
And uh I think I really liked how Father Jacob said, like it's okay however you're feeling, because like I and it it changes every day for me.
00:19:46.480 --> 00:19:59.680
Some days I'm excited about it, and you know, like the like just the the transition and you know the the school year ahead and and then other days it makes me cry.
00:20:00.000 --> 00:20:20.000
So it just it just I think it's okay however however we're feeling, but I think just showing up and persevering is is good and finding your community, um, you know, relying on your church community because everybody is going through the same thing.
00:20:20.240 --> 00:20:30.400
So um just really working together, coming together, and and making making the most out of this, out of um, out of this change.
00:20:30.640 --> 00:20:38.160
Okay, well, um I did get a new car, a new ish car, the newest car I've ever had.
00:20:38.480 --> 00:20:41.279
And I have many can you relays this week.
00:20:41.440 --> 00:20:46.079
Um, so I have never had this nice of a car.
00:20:46.799 --> 00:20:52.880
And I have just been trying to think of any excuse to drive around.
00:20:53.039 --> 00:20:58.559
I went to Target, I've been to, oh, I've got an Amazon return.
00:20:58.640 --> 00:21:00.000
I better go take that back.
00:21:00.079 --> 00:21:04.079
Oh, you know, like, oh, I'm like, I I guess I should go go groceries.
00:21:04.400 --> 00:21:06.319
So um, that's a can you relate?
00:21:06.400 --> 00:21:08.400
I got a new car and I'm so excited.
00:21:08.640 --> 00:21:13.599
I'm really mostly excited about the button to open the back hatch.
00:21:14.079 --> 00:21:18.799
So when I order groceries, I can just I don't have to get out of my car at all.
00:21:19.039 --> 00:21:23.279
I do like struggle to make small talks sometimes.
00:21:23.599 --> 00:21:29.359
So I am excited to just hit that button and then hit the button again.
00:21:29.519 --> 00:21:31.279
Um, I'm really excited about that.
00:21:31.440 --> 00:21:36.720
So um, yeah, I uh am so excited.
00:21:36.880 --> 00:21:38.640
My garden is flourishing.
00:21:38.960 --> 00:21:42.960
I have already harvested a couple cucumbers.
00:21:43.200 --> 00:21:46.799
I think this is everybody's like case this year.
00:21:46.960 --> 00:21:47.440
I don't know.
00:21:47.599 --> 00:21:52.400
I'm gonna have so many cucumbers, I don't know what I'm gonna do with them all.
00:21:52.640 --> 00:21:54.319
So that's exciting.
00:21:54.480 --> 00:21:56.400
My flowers are blooming.
00:21:56.880 --> 00:22:03.519
I every day I go out and I just look in my garden and think how beautiful it is.
00:22:03.680 --> 00:22:08.240
I don't even like cucumbers that much, but I guess I'm gonna learn really learn to like them.
00:22:08.480 --> 00:22:16.480
So I guess my can you relate is do you ever like if you've gotten a new car, just like just want to drive it everywhere?
00:22:16.799 --> 00:22:23.599
And if you have a garden, do you eagerly go outside every morning just to see what's grown?
00:22:23.839 --> 00:22:31.039
It like, even though like I know it's not time to harvest it yet, but like I just want to go out and like look at it, admire it.
00:22:31.359 --> 00:22:34.000
Um, yeah, so that's all for this week.
00:22:34.160 --> 00:22:36.960
A nice short one to get you through this Thursday.
00:22:37.200 --> 00:22:41.119
So that's all for this week, and we will catch you next week.
00:22:41.359 --> 00:22:47.680
As always, we are praying for you and hoping that you have a great week.
00:22:48.240 --> 00:22:48.799
Bye.
