Why Zion Can’t Exist Until We Overthrow the Money Changers (D&C Explains Why)

In this Zion Media episode, Shane Baldwin is joined by Keith Kelsch for a bold and eye-opening deep dive into God’s economy and the commandment to “overthrow the money changers.” Drawing from Doctrine and Covenants 104, 42, and 1, alongside biblical history, early American monetary policy, and prophetic warnings from leaders like Abraham Lincoln and Andrew Jackson, the conversation examines whether Latter-day Saints have misunderstood consecration, stewardship, and equality in temporal things. The discussion confronts the uncomfortable question: if Zion means “no poor among them,” why do we still see poverty among us?

Interwoven with testimonies of priesthood power, stories of consecration, and a sweeping historical overview of centralized banking—from ancient Rome to modern central banks—the episode calls Saints to awaken to their “awful situation” and reconsider what it truly means for Christ to be at the head. The hosts explore agency, covenant responsibility, and the spiritual dangers of idolatry and covetousness, issuing a direct invitation to gather, consecrate, and seek Zion as a lived reality—not a distant abstraction. “It is time for Zion to rise. It is time for the servants to wake up.”
