Jordan Getzelman thought he was going to be drafted. The call never came.
He had already played at four different colleges, struggled, transferred, been released, and repeatedly found himself wondering what came next. He started coaching, took a job washing jockstraps and handing out shoes at Dallas Baptist, worked his way into the Milwaukee Brewers organization, and eventually landed at Nevada.
Now he is 31 years old and the head coach of a Division I baseball program.
Jordan sits down with Chad to talk honestly about his first season leading the Wolf Pack, the expectations that came with it, where the team fell short, and what he had to learn when the season did not end the way anyone expected.
Then they get into what college sports have become. NIL money. The transfer portal. Players being recruited away. Teammates knowing what everyone else is being paid. Young athletes trying to compete while social media gives them an endless list of people to compare themselves against.
Jordan says it has never been more difficult to be a team, but it's his job to build one anyway.
This is Part 1 of Chad’s conversation with Nevada Baseball head coach Jordan Getzelman.
This episode is presented by Jack Daniel’s Tennessee Whiskey and brought to you by Featherlite of Reno, Napa Valley Olive Oil, The Provider Culinary, Bodyguard Bumpers, Bedslide, Oakley Sunglasses, and LEER Truck Toppers.
