Heaven four DMed I'm leaving this voicemail on the podcast so that everybody knows I called you for the podcast and was sent a voicemail. Alpha. Yeah, what's up, dude. It's funny. I was recording. I just called you. It went to voicemail. I go. This guy sent me a voicemail on my own podcast. Oh Jesus, man, I didn't mean to do that. It's so good. Okay, I'm keeping that in. By the way, welcome to the thought shower. Good friend of mine, good friend of the show, good friend everybody. D D officially married. Yes, look at that? What is it? And I'm super happy. I couldn't be much happier. It's awesome. Good. I think the answer is he can't be much happier, right, I don't think there can be, at least now the new wedding vibe on you. Oh yeah, man, there's a glow about me right now and it feels right. So the reason I have beyond man. So you are eva comedy spashal filming coming up at the Loft July fourteenth, the fifteenth, And if you've been any of the comedy tours, you've seen d You see him basically take a shirt off. You see him talk about his family. For those who don't know the difference between a stand up show and a comedy filming, what's going on. So the special is supposed to be essentially my like magnum opus to this point, I'm supposed to put together about forty five minutes of the best material I've ever put together, and then we're going to have people that are going to be filming. There's going to be four shows, two on Friday, two on Saturday, and hope to god that a lot of people show up so we couldn't have a really like fun turnout a fun vibe, and then it'll be the scotten films in them in an editing room for a couple of weeks theoretically send it over to a few different people that kind of asked me if I had anything and I said, you know, I do want to record as special, and they said, well, tell us what we need to do and we'll start working towards that. And that's the goal. Now look at that July fourteenth, the fifteenth, the comedy Loft in the District. You're an interesting catman, so you are how many siblings do you have? I have seven siblings, and you fall where in that order. I'm in the middle. I'm what they say is the oldest of the younger half. So I'm a middle child. So do you think then that you got in comedy because with that many kids, it was like a need to stand out and get attention one hundred percent. It was like the one thing that I realized very quickly, I could get into a lot of trouble or I could also get everyone to kind of forget the bad thing that I had just done. So I'm all forward in my opinion. I love the attention. Anything that I could do to get my parents to pay attention, I was like, yeah, what use now? I guess the crack jokes and make fun of my siblings. So it's a little funner now. I do think that the one thing that I learned with comedy is that nobody in your inner circle laughs at anything. And so to have you out as six siblings plus your parents, that's eight people basically making you work for every laugh. That must have been like sparring sessions. Oh my god, it was awful and hilarious because it's the best when you basically you get one of them to break. My younger sister, Sharifa, is hilarious in her own right because she's so sarcastic about pretty much everything. So when I get her to break, when I make a joke and she'll just kind of smile and look away from me, and she's like, I hate you. I hate you so much. And I'm like, that's that's a standing ovation for me in my opinion, So hell yeah, dude. Yeah, you get somebody who doesn't want to laugh and make them laugh, that's kind of the goal. But I think the you know, for a lot of times, if people start in the comedy tour, you like the hardest job of the whole thing, being like the battering ram to like forest laughter. It's almost like, um, do you have Dr McDonald is always gonna like Andy Kaufman too committing to the bit regardless. I think you do that, but you like you do it in a more fun way, whereas they embrace the awkwardness. And that kind of was a joke. That makes sense. Yeah, that's like they both kind of drive alternative styles of the comedies. I mean, they're drastically different in their own right. But the way that I always approached it was like I was playing with house money, like if I go up first, I mean, Kyle's gonna do great, You're gonna do great. They're here to see like a great show, so in my mind, and Chelsea was gonna do great. So it was like in my mind, I got to just kind of play and have fun and see if I could get them like to be enjoying themselves. I also got to get them to like learn how to behave at a comedy show, so that was fun. So yeah, for the most part, I love going first. I always think it's fun. This is why it's gonna be so confusing this time around. Kyle and I were talking about it, said, do you want to go first this go around? And I was like, I don't know. Maybe, and that's like if we ever do a tour again. And I was like, oh gosh, I don't even know anymore. Man. Yeah, man, I'm just excited. I might be retired. That might be the but but this is it doesn't it's too much work if I'm mean. Yeah. The funny thing um that I have learned is like after a tour of the ideas, you retire your stuff, and it is the daunting thing of like how can I possibly top what the last thing was? And it like you had that feeling and tell like something hits it's it's interesting. Um you ever see the movie Walk Hard? This is the Johnson Riley you know, like we're like Jewey cox Is. His wife says something that it's inspires a song. She's like, don't you dare write a song right now? Are you like that? Like, are you and the missages are having like a talk about something? Do you pause for a second? Write down note the phone? Oh it's to the opposite, she tells me, like, oh, that's funny, Like write that down. I made like some joke about like the days or something like that where I was texting her and I just sent and she was like, you tried the biday? What are your thoughts? And I just sent her like a peach emoji and a bull's eye emoji, and I was like bulls eye and then she locked it and then she was like quoting it in her head the rest of the day. So when I saw her later that day, she's like, you have to write a joke about this. You have to. And I spent like a month writing it and then performing it and working out the kinks and now it's like one of my favorite jokes. So she's amazing at vetting dumb joke because she's gotten the point where he hears how I write them, so she can kind of already see where the punchlines are going. Yeah, but she'll just give me like that that hilarious Caesar like thumbs up or thumbs down sometimes, and that's my favorite. I think it's great. She's like, I'm probably gonna have to give her like some writing credits. Yeah. Nah, it's the best artist steal if everybody else. Isn't that like the the whole adage of that, I hope not the comedy Well yeah, well there, Yeah, that's a different world, though entirely it is funny. Um, Like, I think that's kind of how most comedy stuff is. It's like real life stuff happens. I was thinking even today, I record some other stuff today and I was like, um, because I was talking about like nobody likes your cheap friend, like the one that doesn't when the bill comes, they n pay and they don't know. And then I thought like I had a kind of a piffany or I'm like, hey, everybody knows when the bill's coming, Like it should never be a surprise that I cover the bill for something, because like we knew it was coming, and it doesn't come in the beginning of the meal, it doesn't come midway. It's like they say, like, are we done here? And then like it's it's the most baffley thing of like people are like, oh, didn't even see the person dressed like a butler come over with the uh the white piece of paper in the club? You know what I mean? Yeah, yeah, you was just sitting there the whole time, and you're like, wait, this is what a restaurant is. Oh my god, I had no I I was busy looking up at the ceiling the entire time and didn't notice somebody asked for the tech. Yeah, it's so strange how that happens. Oh my, well, oh that's funny. Well, you know, maybe I'm not retired yet. So um yeah, married originally not originally you guys actually got married. When yeah, we got married January twenty eight, it was awesome, like it was just like a little family gathering sort of situation. We were happy about it. And then like two weeks after we had gotten married, we both kind of looked at each other and we said, wouldn't it be great if we just had like a big old party, and then we planned and then before we knew it, it happened. Dude. It was like my four months post wedding reception. Yeah, but it was great. It was at this really cool place called the Hey Adams in Dcre looking over the White House. It was a black so Sarah's family Jewish. Correct, Yes, did you lead off with your comedian or do you start with your real job first? Oh gosh, I didn't even mention that I was a comedian who her parents that they found out very quickly, and then then Sarah told them and now my father in law Gary, his response was, well, I better get ten percent for the stuff he's gonna hear me say. So. Yeah, that was like, okay, you got you got the good management shops. Well, you know, comedian and radio DJ are like two hobbies where it just sounds dirty to say, because I don't think people like appreciate the craft that goes into it just kind of sounds and rightfully so in a lot of cases it sounds a little bit uh yeah, yeah. But like at the same time, the other side of the coin, and after being all pretentious and stuff. Come see me perform at my Off Broadway Broadway Off Broadway play Like I don't know if I yeah, that actually sounds the exact same as me telling people to come to a comedy show. That's different. This is the thing that you built. Yeah, I mean, so that's like the vibe. And have her parents seen you to stand up? And did you have to like warn them beforehand? I'm like, hey, I say things that aren't necessarily true. No. I her mom saw me to stand up in a basement bar in DC one time, and I actively said, you do not have to come to this, you don't have to go. And but Mama Sherry is all about going to a comedy show and supporting her baby boy. Oh boy. She came and she saw me and she laughed. She says she had a great time. I don't think she would ever tell me if she didn't enjoy herself. She seemed like she had a good time and she laughed, So I'm happy about that. Yeah, what Molly's parents came to when my shows last year, and it was terrifying because like we had been dating. I think it was a State theater show, so that was probably in Jolie or August. We only have been dating for a little bit, and like I had to like reach out, like, hey, like I'm gonna say some wild things that don't reflect how I feel about your daughter, and most of it I'm pulling out my rear end. Please let me get her. Please still let this happen, because I think she's very lovely. Oh. As soon as I found out from the like the Wife that her mom was coming through the show, I immediately went to my joke notebook and everything that I've ever written, and I'm like, Okay, I think that passes the mom test. I feel like that's okay, And I feel like if it's a big show, it's gonna be she'll findly giving some leeway. But not for the first show. I didn't want to. Yeah, this is exciting, man. Yeah. The funny thing about comedy that's a dumb sentence. Like every I don't want you to tip your hand for anything, but every set ends with the closer. Do we have a close already for the special at the Comedy Love. Yeah, I already wrote most of the setlist down. I have like some classics that I love and they still work, and I'm trying to make them fun and get excited about them. But I do have one closer right now, and it's going to kind of hearken back to this what we had talked about with the days and being married and all this stuff that's coming with it. It's all that gays and yeah, there's a lot of new material that I've been writing because the last like four or five months. Dude, I'm excited for you, man. I think you know. The weird thing about what happened with the tour was that was supposed to be a show and I think, like, how long have you and Kyle been doing comedy? We did the first show seven years ago. We talked about this a couple of times. To be honest, I don't know. Kyle and I never even met each other really before the first show, which was weird because we were both in the same scene. I want to say that I couldn't have been more than like two year open micer like something like that, okay, and I think Kyle was like a year okay, So we were all kind of in a similar about I mean, I think I advantage of me doing the radio show four hours a day, I think made things easier certainly, but it's been crazy. See certainly how everybody's grown. We all talk about, uh, you know Kyle Krumer. Not this is about him, because Kyle Kyle is the most unfairly cool human being ever. Yeah, he just is is well. I was funny though, there's um I was talking to Molly about like her friends and stuff, and like like she knows more about her friends than I do. I was telling Molly like Kyle's explained to me no less than every single show what he does for a living, And for the life of me, I couldn't even get in the wheelhouse the way he does. Couldn't even tell you to to any Do you have any idea what he does? I think it's something with finance, But to be completely honest, I have no confidence. Isn't that funny Like for dudes like he's He's literally said it so many times that like I feel like an ass have no idea. I have known him for years and I know him very well, but I could not tell you what he does outside him stand up, like even hobby wise, other than watching the NBA. Yeah, you're right, that's just dudes though, And like if a dude you know my dudes aren't found when they got missing because their hommies couldn't describe anything about him. If you went missing, d or knock on wood, I couldn't list any body characteristics that stand out. I would Peggy at six feet, but I don't think you're six feet are you? No? No, not even close? Dude. In my heart, I am yeah, But like, like, what's he? What's he sound like like a guy you be gone? Does he have an accent? Yeah? Florida. I think he's like from Florida. Yeah, what blood type is he? I know it's red, so one of one of those. I know that. I'm excited for this show, dude. So if people want to get tickets, d where they go get tickets? You can get them on my website, damed dot com. It'll take you right to the DC Comedy Loft where they're having all of the shows being sold there. You can always find me on Instagram and Twitter and I will have links and be posting about the show is soon, I think like about a month and a half, and hell yeah, I've got to help forty five two to really try to hone in on this set. So I'm excited. I'm thankful and I can't wait to share it with some people. This is cool, man. This is a rare chance for folks to see somebody do their first special, like their first like time putting the jokes to video if you will, so, I'm excited for it. You're a funny dude to get a friend of the show. I appreciate you. DMed dot com. We'll see at the Comedy Loft. Sir, thank you. I'll see you soon, but bye.
