00:00:01.280 --> 00:00:09.839
Hello, so um this week's podcast is a little bit different to usual because it is just me, myself, and I.
00:00:10.080 --> 00:00:16.879
Um I was thinking, oh my goodness, I haven't organised the podcast, and here we go, and I said I was gonna do it every Friday.
00:00:17.120 --> 00:00:22.640
So I could have cancelled, but I thought no, I've said I'm gonna do it, so I'm going to do it, and I'm going to do it just me.
00:00:22.800 --> 00:00:25.199
So no microphones because I am that unorganized.
00:00:25.280 --> 00:00:27.280
I was like, I've got 10 minutes, let's go.
00:00:27.440 --> 00:00:37.840
Um, so I've recently come back from Dubai where I spent some time with such amazing, incredible people, and I thought, why not come on here and just share a few things that I have brought home with me?
00:00:37.920 --> 00:00:42.960
Um, not just for myself but for the studio as well.
00:00:43.439 --> 00:00:56.079
So, one thing I've been thinking about is just how much of what I'm learning at the age of 36 that I wish that I'd have known and understood more when I was younger and growing up.
00:00:56.240 --> 00:01:07.359
Um, actually, how amazing would it be if we could start teaching our children and like the students um all of these things now?
00:01:07.519 --> 00:01:23.439
Um, because I just think that'd be so cool to have that the all of these little tool tools in the toolbox growing um up, not even just how to dance, but how to believe in themselves, how to deal with challenges and anything sort of negative that's thrown at you and how to navigate life.
00:01:23.599 --> 00:01:26.799
So, yeah, I thought I'd share a few of my biggest takeaways.
00:01:27.359 --> 00:01:34.239
The first one that I am going to talk about is your environment because honestly, that matters more than absolutely anything.
00:01:34.480 --> 00:01:40.079
You've probably heard the saying, your vibe attracts your tribe, which I swear by.
00:01:40.400 --> 00:01:43.040
Um, and that's something that I really believe in.
00:01:43.280 --> 00:02:05.280
Being around people who genuinely want to see you do well, um, who inspire you, who encourage you, and who celebrate all your wins makes such a huge difference to who you are, and that's something that I think every single child that comes through our door at studio needs to experience, not just in the dance school, in the Pilata Studio as well, no matter how old you are.
00:02:05.519 --> 00:02:15.520
Honestly, friendships can be so hard, um, especially when you're growing up, um, and you have so much pressure to fit in everything to be liked, to compare yourself to everyone.
00:02:15.680 --> 00:02:22.800
Um, but imagine learning from a young age that someone else's success doesn't take anything away from yours.
00:02:22.960 --> 00:02:29.039
You can celebrate someone else, um, and you can still be working towards your own goals.
00:02:29.360 --> 00:02:35.520
Um, yeah, so I thought that was a big takeaway that you just don't need to bring anyone down to get ahead.
00:02:35.680 --> 00:02:39.599
You literally are just all out to do your thing.
00:02:39.840 --> 00:02:42.879
Um, and yeah, so I thought that was a really important lesson.
00:02:43.039 --> 00:02:47.599
Um, my second takeaway is that you are so much more than your achievements.
00:02:47.759 --> 00:03:06.560
I think it's an important one for our young people when you're doing exams like at school, auditions, um, even yeah, like friendship groups, like I said, um, social media, there's so much going on, and sometimes we forget just how much pressure that our children are under.
00:03:06.800 --> 00:03:23.919
So, of course, yeah, I want the students to work hard, um, and I want them to have discipline, ambition, and goals, but I never want them to think that just a grade or how they do in their exams or anything like that is defines who they are because it really, really doesn't.
00:03:24.159 --> 00:03:31.840
And I think as adults, sometimes we put pressure on ourselves and unintentionally pass that pressure on to our children.
00:03:32.000 --> 00:03:34.960
Um, so that's something that I'm still learning myself.
00:03:35.439 --> 00:03:42.000
Uh, the third thing is getting out of your own way because oh my goodness, this is such a big one.
00:03:42.159 --> 00:03:52.639
Um, how many times we stop ourselves doing something because we're worried what other people might think, or because we don't think we're good enough, or we're just waiting for everything to be perfect.
00:03:52.879 --> 00:04:08.159
I'm 36, I always forget how older I am, and I am just yeah, still working on all these things, and it makes me think about how many children might be holding themselves back because they're frightened of getting something wrong or waiting for the right time, um, or just anything like that.
00:04:08.319 --> 00:04:15.360
They might be nervous, um, they might be worried about something, they might be worried about someone else's opinions, or worried if they make a mistake.
00:04:15.520 --> 00:04:30.800
Um, but I just think making mistakes is literally how we learn, and my coach always says to me, There's no such thing as failure, failure is where we learn at the biggest lessons, and since I thought like that, I always am like, Yeah, that is so true.
00:04:30.959 --> 00:04:35.120
I could cry about this, I could cry about that, but actually, what have I learned from it?
00:04:35.360 --> 00:04:42.639
Um, so yeah, I really want our students to feel comfortable trying new things, even when they don't get it right the first time.
00:04:42.720 --> 00:04:44.399
I just want them to keep trying.
00:04:44.959 --> 00:04:54.720
Um, the fourth thing that's quite hard to say the fourth thing is learning just to let go of any control.
00:04:55.279 --> 00:05:11.360
Um, I did a course about a year and a half ago, and we put everything into a circle on the inside, all the things we can control, and on the outside, all the things we can't control, and it's mad how much you can't control yet, you try to control.
00:05:11.839 --> 00:05:15.600
Um, so it's it is hard.
00:05:15.680 --> 00:05:22.399
So, like obviously, running businesses, being mums, juggling everything, um, and you can't do everything yourself.
00:05:22.560 --> 00:05:29.279
Um, so just because somebody else does something or they do it differently to how you would or how I would doesn't mean that anyone's got it right or wrong.
00:05:29.519 --> 00:05:36.160
It is just you can only control the controllables and how you do something and how you live your life.
00:05:36.399 --> 00:05:45.120
So I think it's just learning to trust like the people around you and giving them opportunities, allowing them to grow so that you can grow as well.
00:05:45.279 --> 00:05:51.839
Um, and I think that's a good lesson for the children is watching that as um yeah, as part of a lesson.
00:05:52.079 --> 00:06:02.319
Um, you don't always have to have the answers, um, and asking for help or working together with someone and learning from other people is is the best thing for you.
00:06:02.959 --> 00:06:14.000
Um, and then I think the last thing is just yeah, just thinking about the person that you want to become, um, not just what you want to achieve, but who you actually want to be.
00:06:14.160 --> 00:06:15.279
Like, are you kind?
00:06:15.439 --> 00:06:16.959
Do you encourage other people?
00:06:17.439 --> 00:06:20.720
Have have you encouraged yourself to try something new?
00:06:20.879 --> 00:06:22.560
Have you encouraged someone else to try something new?
00:06:22.720 --> 00:06:25.120
Are you happy for someone else when they succeed?
00:06:25.279 --> 00:06:33.040
Um, because all those things I think are so important, and that those are bring me back to those core values that we have at the studio.
00:06:33.519 --> 00:06:43.920
Um, we've made loads and loads of changes, and it really does just bring me back to that, and what I really want the children to take away from their time with us.
00:06:44.079 --> 00:06:54.720
So, of course, I want them to become brilliant dancers and performers, but I also want them to just become who they want to be and grow in confidence um and just to become really resilient young people.
00:06:55.279 --> 00:07:04.800
Um, yeah, so I think it's important that people know that I want that studio to be somewhere where they leave and the pressures of school, exams, friendships, and everything else at the door.
00:07:04.959 --> 00:07:06.480
They just leave it at the door, sorry.
00:07:06.560 --> 00:07:15.759
And I always say it's like taking a little rucksack off, leaving it there, and then just coming in and just being who you want to be, somewhere where you feel safe and seen and heard.
00:07:16.240 --> 00:07:33.680
Um, yeah, so I really want to start bringing these conversations into um into the school to see how everyone feels and see how their confidence, self-belief, and managing that pressure is, um, celebrating each other, understanding that you don't have to be perfect, you don't have to know everything.
00:07:33.839 --> 00:07:40.160
Um, but yeah, not it's not just about the dancing, it's about the person.
00:07:40.800 --> 00:07:46.319
Um, so yeah, they're my little lessons that I have bought back from uh Dubai.
00:07:46.560 --> 00:07:56.639
So let me know um what you think, and yeah, I'll be back next week, much more organized, she says, um, for another episode.
00:00:01.280 --> 00:00:09.839
Hello, so um this week's podcast is a little bit different to usual because it is just me, myself, and I.
