00:00:09.119 --> 00:00:13.679
Welcome everyone to the Inside Corner Connecticut Softball Podcast with John Nash.
00:00:13.839 --> 00:00:19.920
I'm Rob Adams and uh John, another summer edition, fortunately under cooler conditions.
00:00:20.800 --> 00:00:22.399
Yeah, finally, thank goodness.
00:00:22.559 --> 00:00:32.399
I know uh two weeks' worth or two days' worth of Little League uh state final fours have been postponed, but uh they played tonight, so we'll hold off on them for another story.
00:00:32.560 --> 00:00:46.799
Uh today we got a little bit of breaking news from one of the most prolific pitchers uh in the state of Connecticut, uh former Coventry star, former Eastern Connecticut State University star, Elizabeth Mitchell.
00:00:46.960 --> 00:00:48.880
Eliz, thanks for joining us.
00:00:49.200 --> 00:00:50.880
Thanks for having me, guys.
00:00:51.200 --> 00:00:58.479
And let's jump right into the breaking news, which I did not know about until I, you know, you and I spoke uh to set this up.
00:00:58.719 --> 00:01:04.480
But you have entered the transfer portal after your sophomore year at ES at ECSU.
00:01:04.719 --> 00:01:09.200
And obviously you're coming off a year where you were the Little East Conference pitcher of the year.
00:01:09.439 --> 00:01:12.560
The year before that, you were the league's rookie of the year.
00:01:12.799 --> 00:01:13.599
What's going on?
00:01:13.760 --> 00:01:14.640
Why the transfer?
00:01:14.719 --> 00:01:21.040
You know, I know Coach Pepin left, but uh kind of what's going on where you're you're looking for another school.
00:01:21.519 --> 00:01:26.959
Yeah, um, just kind of playing it safe right now since I didn't know who our coach is gonna be.
00:01:27.280 --> 00:01:36.799
Um and we did the interview process and I just wasn't sure, so I just wanted to, you know, put my name out in the portal, just see who's interested and things like that.
00:01:36.959 --> 00:01:39.359
I am still looking to go back to Eastern.
00:01:39.519 --> 00:01:47.599
I just wanted to like, you know, just check out my options in case, you know, I I didn't really agree with the pick of the coaches or things like that.
00:01:47.680 --> 00:01:56.319
But they did announce um the new head coach, she's from RPI, and I uh I've been uh waiting to contact her actually.
00:01:56.560 --> 00:02:00.159
Um so it's it's not a done deal then.
00:02:00.319 --> 00:02:03.280
You you may return to ECSU East to ECS.
00:02:03.519 --> 00:02:04.319
Yes, um, yeah.
00:02:04.400 --> 00:02:14.080
I was just like, you know, keeping it safe, keeping a few schools in my back pocket just to make sure, you know, I have a place to call home if I wasn't happy at Eastern.
00:02:14.639 --> 00:02:15.120
Gotcha.
00:02:15.199 --> 00:02:15.439
Okay.
00:02:15.599 --> 00:02:18.560
Well, what what have the uh first two years been like for you up there?
00:02:18.639 --> 00:02:28.240
I mean, obviously on the field, it's it's been nothing but success, it seems, but you know, when you left left Coventry to to go to Eastern, did it was it everything that you thought it would be?
00:02:29.199 --> 00:02:31.919
Um, I guess I would say so.
00:02:32.319 --> 00:02:40.879
Um it was just like it was definitely a big jump from high school to college, even like I know it's a division three level, but the hitters are better.
00:02:41.039 --> 00:02:45.599
You got we're playing again six years on uh UMass Boston.
00:02:45.759 --> 00:02:50.240
So these girls have a lot of college experience, and so it was definitely a big jump.
00:02:50.479 --> 00:03:00.319
Um I love my teammates, they're like my best friends, bridesmaids, like Coach Pep did a great job of picking those out, that's for sure.
00:03:00.639 --> 00:03:07.360
Um but you know, there was you know some bumps in the road here and there.
00:03:07.520 --> 00:03:12.479
I mean, I obviously would love to win more since we were more of like a 500 team.
00:03:12.879 --> 00:03:18.800
Um, that was like a big thing for me that you know we would lose by one run, two runs.
00:03:19.120 --> 00:03:22.080
Um, that would really drive me crazy for sure.
00:03:22.240 --> 00:03:29.120
Um, but other than that, it truly is, I guess, everything I was hoping for in a college experience.
00:03:30.240 --> 00:03:33.280
And you know, you know, last year, just what a season for you.
00:03:33.439 --> 00:03:35.439
Uh and and it's kind of crazy.
00:03:35.520 --> 00:03:37.120
You talk about all those close losses.
00:03:37.199 --> 00:03:45.599
You were 12 and 8 record-wise, you personally, yet you were named the Little East Conference pitcher of the year because you had such a great year.
00:03:45.759 --> 00:03:52.080
126 hits allowed, only 38 walks, 112 strikeouts, an ERA of 2.08.
00:03:52.319 --> 00:04:02.639
Even as a battery, you hit 351, you had 16 RBIs, you scored 24 runs, had a couple home runs, still none bigger than the home run you hit in the state championship game for Coventry, I think.
00:04:02.800 --> 00:04:04.639
Uh, which I remember well.
00:04:04.879 --> 00:04:10.000
Um, but the the thing that jumped out at me is we had Coach Pepin on a few weeks ago, Rob.
00:04:10.159 --> 00:04:11.199
You remember that, I'm sure.
00:04:11.599 --> 00:04:18.639
And do you remember when I asked her who who the one player is that she would want, like, you know, in that strikeout moment or the at bat?
00:04:18.800 --> 00:04:29.120
I sure it was a uh uh yeah, a lady named uh Molly Rathburn, and she was the last Little East Conference pitcher of the year from Eastern since Elizabeth Mitchell.
00:04:29.199 --> 00:04:34.079
So that shows you the class of of level that that Miss Mitchell's at here, I think, anyway.
00:04:34.240 --> 00:04:39.600
So but uh did that surprise you at all, Liz, to be named the the league's pitcher of the year?
00:04:40.079 --> 00:04:55.519
Um it didn't, didn't thank God the awards got picked before the conference started, the conference room started because at the end of the season I I started we started to tank as like a team, and like you know, I was letting up too many runs and hits.
00:04:55.680 --> 00:05:00.879
Um because my record going in before like the last six games was pretty good.
00:05:01.040 --> 00:05:15.439
I think I was like 10 and like three or four, and then really after the tournament started, I was on like a six-game losing streak and never uh came back from that during the season.
00:05:15.680 --> 00:05:21.279
But um I worked really hard with my pitching coach, um, Yesenia Everisto.
00:05:21.600 --> 00:05:24.959
She really helped me out a lot when I got to Eastern.
00:05:25.040 --> 00:05:29.759
I mean, over the two years, we've been I never even had a curveball become before coming to college.
00:05:29.920 --> 00:05:38.240
And she taught me that curveball and like she really pushed me to become a better pitcher because she knew what I had inside me.
00:05:38.319 --> 00:05:42.000
Like I really, truthfully, I love winning so much.
00:05:42.160 --> 00:05:44.959
I I hate losing more than I like winning at the end of the day.
00:05:45.040 --> 00:05:46.720
That's what we always used to say.
00:05:47.120 --> 00:05:55.759
Um, but I did get my freshman year, so you know I had to uphold that standard, and I I was really working hard to get it.
00:05:55.839 --> 00:06:01.600
But I wouldn't say it surprised me, but I was just more grateful to be named the pitcher of the year.
00:06:02.079 --> 00:06:22.000
And and you know, when you left Coventry, and we'll cover your the whole high school career and all that here in a little bit, but to be named Little East Rookie of the Year in that first year, and now pitcher of the year is a sophomore, and you talked about how difficult the jump was, you know, from from Coventry to college, is that just, you know, is it a credit to your work ethic?
00:06:22.079 --> 00:06:25.759
Um, I mean, obviously you're an incredibly talented pitcher and and player.
00:06:26.000 --> 00:06:32.879
You know, I've seen you do it at the high school level, but what was it that allowed you to have that type of success at the college level?
00:06:33.600 --> 00:06:40.959
Um, I definitely I think it was like more the motivation of you know coming in as a freshman.
00:06:41.120 --> 00:06:47.199
There was older girls, um, like a senior who is a pitcher that's been there for four years.
00:06:47.439 --> 00:06:54.720
So I definitely like wanting to earn that number one spot definitely pushed me to be super motivated.
00:06:54.959 --> 00:06:59.040
Um the just the level of play is just different.
00:06:59.199 --> 00:07:00.639
The speed of the game.
00:07:00.879 --> 00:07:08.240
Um in high school, honestly, if I had the spin I did now, I don't think we would have lost a game in high school.
00:07:08.399 --> 00:07:14.720
Um, even though my spin is really all not that great at the end of the day for the college level, we're still working on that.
00:07:15.279 --> 00:07:21.199
Um but what could you buy in high school?
00:07:21.279 --> 00:07:27.839
Was it just hitting your spots and and and you know, fastball changeup routine, or what do you think made you so successful?
00:07:28.240 --> 00:07:39.600
In high school, it was only really the first before batteries I could hit, and then the rest of the lineup was, you know, whoever they could scramble up in the class S um schools.
00:07:39.839 --> 00:07:43.600
So, you know, the nobody really had a lineup that was one through nine.
00:07:43.839 --> 00:07:56.560
I mean, I think we had a lineup that was maybe one through six, you know, and we were still at the higher level of class S, but um, hitting spots definitely was a big thing.
00:07:56.720 --> 00:08:16.160
Um, just getting batters to chase in high school, not very many people have discipline, but definitely when it comes to college, a lot of girls have discipline, and you really have to tunnel your pitches well in order to get them to chase off those like rise balls and you know, out like outs like really outside curveballs and really like get them to chase.
00:08:16.319 --> 00:08:23.040
That's definitely what I think has made me more successful is definitely tunneling those pitches to get batters to chase.
00:08:23.120 --> 00:08:27.199
Think that it's coming inside when in reality it's going out.
00:08:28.560 --> 00:08:33.279
Well, I think you summed up that you know you talk about the top four hitters and some of the class S lineups.
00:08:33.360 --> 00:08:37.519
A lot of those kids are going to college, so colleges are filled with top four hitters, right?
00:08:37.600 --> 00:08:42.080
From you know, one through nine, the number nine hitter was probably hitting somewhere in the top four.
00:08:42.399 --> 00:08:43.600
Yeah, definitely.
00:08:43.759 --> 00:08:53.440
Um, because there was even on my high school team, there was girls who were sitting the bench on my high school team that would be in the top four for other schools that we play.
00:08:53.600 --> 00:08:58.320
So that was like kind of cool to be a part of, like, you know, a very talented high school team.
00:08:58.480 --> 00:08:59.440
Not many girls can say that.
00:08:59.519 --> 00:09:01.519
I mean, can't really recruit in high school.
00:09:01.600 --> 00:09:06.639
So, you know, you really get what you get with everybody moving up into high school.
00:09:06.879 --> 00:09:16.080
But I I definitely am grateful I had such like a talented team because, you know, like Cam Fisher, I talk about her all the time.
00:09:16.480 --> 00:09:22.960
She's absolutely fantastic, but she didn't have much run support, you know, in Ellington.
00:09:23.039 --> 00:09:34.559
So just it was nice having growing up playing with Julia Boya, Remy, um we had uh Brooke Blue and Lila.
00:09:34.799 --> 00:09:36.159
We all played for the Bombers.
00:09:36.559 --> 00:09:47.919
Even uh Caroline and Charlotte Weslowski, we all played for the Bombers growing up, so there was more than just playing softball during the spring season, it was all year round.
00:09:48.080 --> 00:09:53.440
So the talent definitely shined through and we needed it in a big spot in high school.
00:09:54.080 --> 00:09:54.799
Oh, for sure.
00:09:55.759 --> 00:10:01.600
The Coventry team that you talked about, your senior year that won the state title was a good one.
00:10:01.759 --> 00:10:05.279
And that's one of those teams that you always wish that at the end of every tournament.
00:10:05.440 --> 00:10:06.799
Rob, I think you would agree with this.
00:10:06.879 --> 00:10:10.240
I would love to see Class S take on the class double L champion.
00:10:10.320 --> 00:10:10.639
No class.
00:10:10.960 --> 00:10:12.399
Class M play Class L.
00:10:12.559 --> 00:10:24.240
And especially in a sport like softball and or baseball, where you know it would be uh I think that would be a lot of fun to end with just one state champ that says it's the best team, you know, in the state.
00:10:24.399 --> 00:10:26.080
So but that's not the way it is.
00:10:26.159 --> 00:10:28.480
But but what led you to the softball field, Liz?
00:10:28.559 --> 00:10:34.480
I mean, why how did you become a softball player rather than running track or you know, playing lacrosse or something like that?
00:10:34.879 --> 00:10:38.000
Because I absolutely hate running with my whole heart.
00:10:38.879 --> 00:10:46.960
All you either you gotta make it 60 feet and then keep going, or you hit the ball really far so you can jog around the bases.
00:10:47.039 --> 00:10:48.080
That's about it.
00:10:48.320 --> 00:10:54.480
Um I started my parents put me in all different types of sports when I was little to see what I liked.
00:10:54.559 --> 00:10:56.320
Soccer was absolutely my least favorite.
00:10:56.399 --> 00:10:59.759
I think I made it to about three games, and that was enough for me.
00:11:00.159 --> 00:11:04.000
Um but they put me-too much running, right?
00:11:04.159 --> 00:11:04.960
Yeah, exactly.
00:11:05.039 --> 00:11:05.200
Yep.
00:11:05.519 --> 00:11:08.240
When I was like four years old, I already knew I hated running.
00:11:08.480 --> 00:11:12.960
Um and then they put me into T-ball, you know, that's fun and all.
00:11:13.440 --> 00:11:27.039
Um, and then, you know, I started to grow up and I kept playing baseball with the boys, and I'm around like eight years old, and my parents were not happy with these practices, and I live across the street from Julia Boya.
00:11:27.360 --> 00:11:31.120
Um, that was my junior year center fielder.
00:11:31.279 --> 00:11:33.759
Um, and now I play uh Eastern with her.
00:11:34.000 --> 00:11:40.399
I live right across the street from her, and her dad was like, Why don't you come try softball?
00:11:40.480 --> 00:11:43.600
You know, just come to practice and see if you like it.
00:11:43.679 --> 00:11:53.679
And her older sister played, and I I just started, you know, getting to know the girls and I was having a lot of fun, and then it just never stopped.
00:11:53.840 --> 00:11:55.519
It was always go time.
00:11:55.600 --> 00:12:09.840
It was then we did wreck, and then I joined the bombers at nine years old and played for the tenure team, and then we were on the all-star team together, and then you know, it's just kind of a routine to you know as soon as that season ended.
00:12:10.159 --> 00:12:12.320
When's the next time we could play softball?
00:12:12.639 --> 00:12:22.159
So and who who who was the uh bright side or who had the great idea to say, hey Liz, this is the pitcher's mound.
00:12:22.320 --> 00:12:23.600
Let's see what you can do.
00:12:24.000 --> 00:12:26.240
I think that was me, if I'm gonna be honest.
00:12:26.399 --> 00:12:34.080
Um, Julia Boya's sister Abby Boya, she was a pitcher and she was very tall for her age, and she looked like she was having fun.
00:12:34.240 --> 00:12:35.600
I was like, man, I want to do that.
00:12:35.759 --> 00:12:52.480
And then I said to my dad one day, and he grabbed the bucket and we went out in the backyard, and I probably didn't hit his glove once, but then we came back out the next day, and maybe I hit his glove once that time, and then it progressively it just got better, and we were having fun.
00:12:52.720 --> 00:13:02.320
You know, I was starting to throw strikes, it definitely wasn't very fast, but you know, I just thought, you know, that that just looks like the most fun spot on the field.
00:13:02.399 --> 00:13:12.000
I'm they're they're in control always, and you know, they're always touching the ball when you're playing like rec, you know, you're in the outfield, you're not ever gonna see a ball.
00:13:12.240 --> 00:13:15.759
And I I I just want to be a part of the action, you know what I mean?
00:13:16.879 --> 00:13:19.279
How did you deal with the pressure of that situation though?
00:13:19.360 --> 00:13:26.159
You know, especially as a younger pitcher when you don't have your best stuff and maybe you walk three or four or five or six, you know, players a game.
00:13:26.399 --> 00:13:30.159
How were you able to overcome that at a young age to keep working?
00:13:31.039 --> 00:13:33.679
It's just a mentality that I've just never cared.
00:13:33.840 --> 00:13:37.200
I mean, honestly, it's like, okay, whatever, let's just move on.
00:13:37.279 --> 00:13:39.279
You know, you can't like dwell on things.
00:13:39.360 --> 00:13:41.200
And I think I've always thought that way.
00:13:41.360 --> 00:13:44.080
That I just like, whatever, move on.
00:13:44.320 --> 00:13:48.639
You know, if the more you sit there and dwell on it, the worse and worse it's gonna get.
00:13:48.879 --> 00:13:51.919
And that's just not the type of player I am.
00:13:52.000 --> 00:13:54.320
Like, even now, I gotta let up like a home run.
00:13:54.480 --> 00:13:56.240
I'm like, whatever, can't get that one back.
00:13:56.320 --> 00:13:57.120
Let's get the next one.
00:13:57.200 --> 00:13:59.279
Like, let me let me strike out this next girl.
00:13:59.440 --> 00:14:01.679
Like, that sucked, but we gotta move on.
00:14:01.919 --> 00:14:06.879
So there, like the pressure aspect, I don't really feel.
00:14:07.039 --> 00:14:14.240
I just want to be able to support my team and help help them win, and that's kind of it.
00:14:14.480 --> 00:14:18.559
I'm I'm having more fun than anything out there, if I'm gonna be honest.
00:14:19.519 --> 00:14:24.240
You know, you know, had soccer taken a hold, I think you would have been a great soccer goalie.
00:14:24.399 --> 00:14:30.639
No running, and you have to have that qu you have to have that forget forget it mentality once the ball gets by you.
00:14:30.799 --> 00:14:34.000
So um, but but thankfully you found your way to the softball field.
00:14:34.080 --> 00:14:42.080
And and again, your Coventry career, I mean, I mean, you were the uh you know, in the middle of just what was a class S powerhouse back then.
00:14:42.240 --> 00:14:51.360
And and how much fun was that to represent your town, your friends, your schoolmates, and and leading up to that senior year, you know, what a day that was for you.
00:14:51.440 --> 00:14:57.279
I think you graduated in the morning and and hit that home run in the state championship game at Yukon that night.
00:14:57.440 --> 00:14:59.919
Just what was that ride like for you?
00:15:00.240 --> 00:15:01.200
Oh, it was so fun.
00:15:01.360 --> 00:15:03.759
My freshman year, I had like a back injury.
00:15:03.919 --> 00:15:06.000
I had fluid in my back from pitching.
00:15:06.080 --> 00:15:12.159
It was more of a my foot hitting the ground and like playing inside during the winter, and it was just killing me.
00:15:12.320 --> 00:15:17.440
So my freshman year, there was I was doing game changer and losing my mind.
00:15:17.600 --> 00:15:20.879
I just I just cannot sit still, especially watching softball.
00:15:21.120 --> 00:15:24.000
And then my sophomore year, we had a great run.
00:15:24.240 --> 00:15:28.000
Um, we only had one senior, so we still had like a younger staff.
00:15:28.159 --> 00:15:32.480
So I knew like within the next two years we were definitely going to be successful.
00:15:32.960 --> 00:15:41.519
Um, I think we made it to the quarter semi my sophomore year, but there was definitely still a lot of growth I had to do.
00:15:41.840 --> 00:15:50.399
And then junior year, um, at the beginning of the season, it started out like a little rocky, you know, we're not hitting the ball great.
00:15:50.480 --> 00:16:00.799
And then throughout there, just having like those senior captains, Julia, Remy, Lindsay, they definitely just helped us get to the state championship.
00:16:00.879 --> 00:16:06.000
And, you know, they graduated on that day, and we beat Cromwell three to two in the championship.
00:16:06.080 --> 00:16:08.320
So that was absolutely awesome.
00:16:08.480 --> 00:16:11.120
I mean, that's the first time we ever won the state championship.
00:16:11.279 --> 00:16:21.279
And those are my best friends that I grew up with, so it was awesome getting to see them graduate in the morning, hustling home, celebrating for about five minutes and throwing on our uniform.
00:16:21.440 --> 00:16:25.840
And then, you know, if we did it once, we got to do it again.
00:16:26.000 --> 00:16:39.679
So my senior year, you know, it was it was hard not having older people to look up to, but I was like, okay, I'm the oldest girl, like we're I'm gonna have to take it from here.
00:16:40.320 --> 00:16:47.440
Um, and then just trying to keep the girls on track, making sure like practices were intentful.
00:16:47.600 --> 00:16:52.559
You know how sometimes where high school can just be like kind of like a bigger joke here and there.
00:16:53.039 --> 00:16:58.559
Um, but just making sure practices were intentful, talking to Jeff and be like, hey, do you think we could do this at practice today?
00:16:58.639 --> 00:17:04.240
And he's like, sure, if he was always down to, you know, do fun drills and make the team better.
00:17:04.400 --> 00:17:07.039
So I really appreciate having that relationship with him.
00:17:07.119 --> 00:17:11.599
And then, you know, we just worked on hitting.
00:17:11.680 --> 00:17:16.000
I'd throw live to them and going through the tournament.
00:17:16.559 --> 00:17:21.279
It it's just like a crazy ride, and we're just like, okay, we've made it this far, we can't stop here.
00:17:21.359 --> 00:17:28.079
And then we finally made it to the state championship again, and we're like, well, we gotta defend our turf.
00:17:28.160 --> 00:17:30.480
We won last year, we can't lose this year.
00:17:30.640 --> 00:17:40.400
And then we ended up just turning it up on Holy Cross, and it wasn't even close after the fourth inning, so we knew we had it in the bag after like the third or fourth inning.
00:17:41.519 --> 00:17:45.279
And that home run, I mean, is that a moment you're gonna remember for the rest of your days?
00:17:45.359 --> 00:17:52.000
You know, that that you when when you know your grandchild first picks up a softball, you're gonna be able to relate that story.
00:17:52.079 --> 00:17:53.759
Is that something you're never gonna forget?
00:17:54.079 --> 00:17:55.359
Yeah, absolutely not.
00:17:55.519 --> 00:18:03.279
I mean, going to Yukon twice and winning on that field, I've always wanted that was like my dream school to play softball there.
00:18:03.519 --> 00:18:07.359
And being able to do it on that field is just fantastic.
00:18:07.519 --> 00:18:13.039
And then with the group of girls we had, I mean, my junior year, we sold out the stadium.
00:18:13.200 --> 00:18:15.359
There was so many people on the hill.
00:18:15.599 --> 00:18:19.519
And then my senior year, I'm pretty sure we sold out the stadium again.
00:18:19.680 --> 00:18:21.279
There was absolutely nowhere to sit.
00:18:21.359 --> 00:18:28.799
And then I come around second base and I just throw my hands up in the air and I look at the crowd, and I mean, like, that was it.
00:18:29.359 --> 00:18:34.960
This is that that could have been my last, you know, home run in my high school career.
00:18:35.119 --> 00:18:39.279
And I just had to take it all in and have them like coming through like the crowd.
00:18:39.519 --> 00:18:41.440
Um coming into home.
00:18:41.519 --> 00:18:45.279
I mean, these girls were I've never seen their faces so happy.
00:18:45.440 --> 00:18:51.759
Everybody was just like, it was like a surreal day, and we have a bunch of videos of it and stuff like that.
00:18:51.920 --> 00:19:05.759
And you me and my dad go back and watch some sometimes together because he like we just sit and like we bask in those memories because how amazing they were and like how grateful we are to like people to experience those memories.
00:19:06.480 --> 00:19:14.880
Oh, trust me, I'm I'm still I still when I go up back to Maine and see my friends, I still celebrate my 200th career JB basketball point.
00:19:16.000 --> 00:19:21.839
You know, you're you're gonna be talking about that home run forever because I I know it had to be just a special moment.
00:19:22.000 --> 00:19:25.119
I I love this relationship with you and and Julia Boya too.
00:19:25.200 --> 00:19:29.920
I I wasn't aware of this at all, and and that would have been a great story for the uh CT softball blog.
00:19:30.000 --> 00:19:34.559
So maybe if you stay at Easton, that's something I can do uh before you guys both graduate.
00:19:34.799 --> 00:19:36.640
But uh are you guys more than friends?
00:19:37.119 --> 00:19:38.640
Is it almost like your sisters?
00:19:38.799 --> 00:19:42.880
Because you grew up from such a young age together and have always you know bonded over this sport.
00:19:42.960 --> 00:19:44.720
I mean, are you guys really that tight?
00:19:45.039 --> 00:19:52.240
The way we got an infight, let me tell you, I think you would if there was a label of more than sisters, I would say you'd label it that.
00:19:52.480 --> 00:19:56.079
Um we bicker back and forth like we are related.
00:19:56.240 --> 00:20:03.920
I'm not even kidding, but we've I they moved in and my parents went over there for a housewarming party when I was four.
00:20:04.079 --> 00:20:07.680
And ever since then, um we've been best friends.
00:20:07.920 --> 00:20:11.039
Um she's a pain in my ass.
00:20:11.200 --> 00:20:12.319
I'm a pain in hers.
00:20:12.480 --> 00:20:18.240
But we we've literally played softball together since I've been eight years old.
00:20:18.480 --> 00:20:23.519
So I mean, we've never not been on a team together unless it was my bomber's team.
00:20:23.759 --> 00:20:31.440
Um, because after 10U, she moved up and I stayed because I was only nine at the time, so I had another year of eligibility.
00:20:31.519 --> 00:20:45.599
And then once my team dispersed, I joined her team again, and then I played with her through high school, and then now this is her last year of college, so if I stay Eastern, you know, there's never gonna be a time where we haven't been playing together.
00:20:45.839 --> 00:20:48.400
So wow, that is amazing.
00:20:48.559 --> 00:20:51.279
Well, what is what is the time frame for your decision?
00:20:51.359 --> 00:20:59.440
Uh is it is the first thing, and again, I you know, don't say who the coach is because the school hasn't released it yet, and I don't I don't want you to get in trouble at all.
00:20:59.519 --> 00:21:02.240
Uh, you know, if you do do if you do go back.
00:21:02.400 --> 00:21:14.480
Um but is it more meet the new coach, sit down, talk with them, get a feel for it, and then decide, or you know, have you have you put a a time frame down for for when you want to decide what's up with your future?
00:21:14.880 --> 00:21:18.799
Um, no, I I'm more like taking it easy and relaxing.
00:21:19.039 --> 00:21:21.279
I'm not like worried about it or anything.
00:21:21.440 --> 00:21:32.720
Um, I definitely do want to talk to the coach just to ensure that my spot is still there Eastern because she could be like, hey, I don't want you back since you entered the transfer portal and things like that.
00:21:32.960 --> 00:21:39.200
So um I'm definitely gonna talk to her soon.
00:21:39.440 --> 00:21:49.519
But, you know, I I think since she was my top pick in the interviewing process, that I'm more than likely to go back, especially with like the life I've created at Eastern.
00:21:49.759 --> 00:21:52.799
I'm 15 minutes from home, I'm with my best friends.
00:21:53.039 --> 00:21:59.440
You know, I have um I'm living with these girls I just met last year, and they're just my best.
00:22:00.160 --> 00:22:05.680
Friends now and two of them play on the softball team, so it's kind of hard to walk away from that.
00:22:05.920 --> 00:22:11.680
And I I definitely think by like early August I'll have my decision.
00:22:11.759 --> 00:22:16.720
But I I think there's a very good uh good chance I'll be going back to Eastern.
00:22:17.039 --> 00:22:25.359
Yeah, and without naming names, did other players kind of do the option route too that you know put yourself in the transport portal just in case?
00:22:25.519 --> 00:22:29.359
Or or were you the outlier who just kind of did it on your own?
00:22:30.240 --> 00:22:44.880
The outlier, I mean, all these girls are just kind of sitting like sitting and waiting to see what's going on, but I don't think it ever really crossed any of their minds to enter the transfer portal, especially if it did.
00:22:45.039 --> 00:22:49.119
I mean, some of these girls only have one more year left, so it wouldn't be worth it.
00:22:49.599 --> 00:22:52.079
Um and you know, Eastern's a great place to be.
00:22:52.160 --> 00:22:54.000
We're with a good group of girls.
00:22:54.559 --> 00:22:58.160
The campus is beautiful, most of it, anyway.
00:22:58.319 --> 00:23:00.799
And you know, we ha we have a lot of fun together.
00:23:00.960 --> 00:23:08.480
So the thought of leaving was hard, but I mean, um I was just I told them, I texted them before I even entered the transfer portal.
00:23:08.559 --> 00:23:12.880
I texted the whole group chat and I was like, listen, I'm just taking a look around.
00:23:12.960 --> 00:23:21.599
I'm I'm not saying I'm leaving, um, but I'm just taking a look around just to see what my options are just in case you know things do go south.
00:23:22.160 --> 00:23:26.960
And as of right now, I'm pretty happy with the decision that the school made.
00:23:27.039 --> 00:23:33.200
I appreciate it because I think it is she was the best um coach for the job.
00:23:33.519 --> 00:23:35.759
I I I personally I think she was awesome.
00:23:35.920 --> 00:23:39.440
So I'm definitely excited to see what happens next.
00:23:40.400 --> 00:23:40.799
That's great.
00:23:40.880 --> 00:23:47.519
And and be it at Eastern or wherever you land, kind of what are your hopes and goals for your the final two years of your college career?
00:23:48.559 --> 00:23:51.440
Um, we gotta win a conference title this year.
00:23:51.519 --> 00:23:53.759
If I say Eastern, we have to win.
00:23:53.920 --> 00:23:58.640
Um, we were projected to win last year, but those rankings really don't mean anything.
00:23:58.880 --> 00:24:04.319
Um I know that because in high school we were always projected never to win the state championship.
00:24:04.400 --> 00:24:11.200
It was always North Brantford or Cromwell or whoever above us, and we always had to prove them wrong.
00:24:11.359 --> 00:24:24.480
And I think this year we got a little comfortable because we were ranked number one in the LAC rankings, but I always knew from day one that those rankings don't mean anything, they're just a wild guess at the end of the day.
00:24:24.720 --> 00:24:31.680
Um so yeah, I mean, we really need to win a conference title.
00:24:31.759 --> 00:24:34.720
I would love to go on to regionals and even super regionals.
00:24:34.880 --> 00:24:49.839
I mean going past that is pushing it because there are some really talented teams in Division III, but I just want to be able to go experience that and travel the country with my best friends and you know have the NCAA pay for it too, so we don't have to fundraise it.
00:24:50.079 --> 00:24:52.559
That's that does help.
00:24:52.720 --> 00:25:11.920
Well, one of my favorite Liz Mitchell, I don't know if you want to call it a story, or it's not really a story, but as I was looking on your bio on the Eastern website today, she talked about how much she hated the lose rob, and one of the things that's listed under the Elizabeth Revealed category is something that you tried once but would never do again.
00:25:12.079 --> 00:25:14.240
And she put losing to UMass Boston.
00:25:14.319 --> 00:25:18.319
Yeah, which of course which of course is you know the big league league rival there.
00:25:18.400 --> 00:25:26.559
So uh so I thought that was uh that pretty much sums up uh Liz Mitchell right there in in terms of how much she hates losing, especially to that team.
00:25:26.640 --> 00:25:27.359
Am I right?
00:25:27.680 --> 00:25:30.240
Yeah, and we did not let that happen again this year.
00:25:30.400 --> 00:25:38.400
We played them at their home turf and beat them twice, and it was dude, I it was the greatest day.
00:25:38.480 --> 00:25:43.920
You would have you would have thought we won the national championship the way we celebrated.
00:25:44.079 --> 00:25:47.279
I mean, because they're like it's always a great game against them.
00:25:47.359 --> 00:26:01.519
It's a lot of fun against them because they do they give us their best game, we give them our best game, and you know, it's we always keep it respectful, but it definitely is fun to have that competition where you're just like you guys just want to rip each other's heads off.
00:26:01.759 --> 00:26:07.119
Um, but yeah, we we made sure that we did not lose to them this year, that's for sure.
00:26:07.440 --> 00:26:08.880
I was last question.
00:26:09.440 --> 00:26:17.359
I was just gonna add, John, that I I read Liz's bio also, and uh full respect in agreement with the fact that you love the smell of the air in Florida.
00:26:17.519 --> 00:26:18.319
I'm gonna add that.
00:26:19.359 --> 00:26:29.200
As soon as we get off the plane for spring break, um every the two years I've been at Eastern, we've gone to Florida for spring break, and it's just like the best time.
00:26:29.279 --> 00:26:30.799
It's the best smell.
00:26:31.039 --> 00:26:34.400
You know, we're in a house together, all together.
00:26:34.559 --> 00:26:36.960
You know, we're on our worst behavior this year.
00:26:37.039 --> 00:26:40.000
We're doing belly flop competitions in the pool.
00:26:40.400 --> 00:26:44.960
Um you know, we're so what I think.
00:26:47.680 --> 00:26:53.759
What I hear you saying then is if uh if uh Florida college reaches out to you while you're in the transfer portal, uh-oh.
00:26:53.920 --> 00:26:54.640
No, I'm just kidding.
00:26:54.720 --> 00:26:55.279
I'm just kidding.
00:26:55.440 --> 00:26:57.759
But I mean, I'm not opposed to it.
00:26:57.920 --> 00:27:09.359
You know, New Tampa, U Tampa was always the D Division II school I wanted to play for in Florida, but you know, I'm thinking I'd I'd be more the water girl there than uh, you know, in the top three.
00:27:09.680 --> 00:27:14.079
So yeah, you really gotta pick and choose what's realistic, you know.
00:27:14.400 --> 00:27:15.200
No, for sure.
00:27:15.359 --> 00:27:28.720
Uh last question I had for you, Liz, was you know, if you walked up to Norwich to a CT bomber's 10U practice and and could give those kids a little bit of advice for for what's coming down the pike for the rest of their career.
00:27:28.880 --> 00:27:40.079
Well, or or even if you could, you know, say to yourself when you go back when you were 10U or 9U, what advice would you give a young player like that that that really, really wants a future in this sport?
00:27:40.720 --> 00:27:44.000
I would say like stop thinking about the future so much.
00:27:44.240 --> 00:27:56.000
Because at the end of the day, I think about it, I'm like, we won so much when we were 10, uh, 11, like not 11U, we got our butt kicked in 11U because you know, you're playing against the 12U teams.
00:27:56.160 --> 00:28:02.000
But the 10U, we won so much, 13, 14 you, we won as a team so much.
00:28:02.079 --> 00:28:08.559
And you know, I kind of was always thinking about the future instead of what was happening right then and there.
00:28:08.799 --> 00:28:15.599
So being able to just like really sit with those memories and be where your feet are when that's going on.
00:28:15.839 --> 00:28:24.400
Um when it is time to, you know, and like look for college and stuff like that, don't be so like stressed because at the end of the day, it all works out.
00:28:24.559 --> 00:28:27.759
Like you will go where you're meant to be.
00:28:28.000 --> 00:28:30.559
Um, even if you know I I committed to St.
00:28:30.640 --> 00:28:33.680
Peter's and clear that wasn't where I was meant to be.
00:28:33.920 --> 00:28:38.160
Um Peppa's been recruiting me since I've been nine years old.
00:28:38.240 --> 00:28:43.440
She's she's always been like, hey, like, you know, she like come to my camps, this and that.
00:28:43.599 --> 00:28:45.759
And you know, I've known her forever.
00:28:46.079 --> 00:28:52.960
So being with her was definitely the best thing that could have happened for the beginning of my college career.
00:28:53.359 --> 00:28:59.359
But I would just say, you know, live in those memories now and stop worrying so much about the future.
00:29:00.880 --> 00:29:03.680
And the time flies, that's for sure, doesn't it, Robin?
00:29:04.160 --> 00:29:05.039
It definitely does.
00:29:05.200 --> 00:29:06.400
It it sure does.
00:29:06.640 --> 00:29:08.480
A great conversation, Liz.
00:29:08.559 --> 00:29:13.359
Uh um, your honesty is so, and you know, you're so candid, it's so refreshing.
00:29:13.440 --> 00:29:15.920
I I really enjoyed listening to what you have to say.
00:29:16.000 --> 00:29:18.480
And wherever you are, uh, we'll be rooting for you.
00:29:18.640 --> 00:29:20.240
Big things ahead for you.
00:29:20.640 --> 00:29:21.440
Thank you.
00:29:21.759 --> 00:29:25.759
Our pleasure, John, that'll do it for this edition of the Inside Corner.
00:29:25.839 --> 00:29:28.480
We'll do it again soon, I'm quite sure.
00:29:29.039 --> 00:29:39.519
We will, and and it's funny because actually Liz did bring up one of our upcoming guests, the new head coach at uh Mitchell College, Coach Sen, her former pitching coach at Eastern.
00:29:39.680 --> 00:29:44.640
So you'll be hearing from uh from her as well as as you know, Liz once we post this.
00:29:44.799 --> 00:29:49.359
So it's uh such a small world in you know in Connecticut softball.
00:29:49.440 --> 00:29:51.599
And that's that's one of the great things about the blog.
00:29:51.839 --> 00:29:52.960
Yep, sure is.
00:29:53.119 --> 00:29:55.680
All right, that'll do it for this edition for John Nash.
00:29:55.759 --> 00:29:56.559
I'm Rob Adams.
00:29:56.640 --> 00:29:58.400
You've been listening to the Inside Court.
00:00:09.119 --> 00:00:13.679
Welcome everyone to the Inside Corner Connecticut Softball Podcast with John Nash.
00:00:13.839 --> 00:00:19.920
I'm Rob Adams and uh John, another summer edition, fortunately under cooler conditions.
00:00:20.800 --> 00:00:22.399
Yeah, finally, thank goodness.
00:00:22.559 --> 00:00:32.399
I know uh two weeks' worth or two days' worth of Little League uh state final fours have been postponed, but uh they played tonight, so we'll hold off on them for another story.
00:00:32.560 --> 00:00:46.799
Uh today we got a little bit of breaking news from one of the most prolific pitchers uh in the state of Connecticut, uh former Coventry star, former Eastern Connecticut State University star, Elizabeth Mitchell.
00:00:46.960 --> 00:00:48.880
Eliz, thanks for joining us.
00:00:49.200 --> 00:00:50.880
Thanks for having me, guys.
00:00:51.200 --> 00:00:58.479
And let's jump right into the breaking news, which I did not know about until I, you know, you and I spoke uh to set this up.
00:00:58.719 --> 00:01:04.480
But you have entered the transfer portal after your sophomore year at ES at ECSU.
00:01:04.719 --> 00:01:09.200
And obviously you're coming off a year where you were the Little East Conference pitcher of the year.
00:01:09.439 --> 00:01:12.560
The year before that, you were the league's rookie of the year.
00:01:12.799 --> 00:01:13.599
What's going on?
00:01:13.760 --> 00:01:14.640
Why the transfer?
00:01:14.719 --> 00:01:21.040
You know, I know Coach Pepin left, but uh kind of what's going on where you're you're looking for another school.
00:01:21.519 --> 00:01:26.959
Yeah, um, just kind of playing it safe right now since I didn't know who our coach is gonna be.
00:01:27.280 --> 00:01:36.799
Um and we did the interview process and I just wasn't sure, so I just wanted to, you know, put my name out in the portal, just see who's interested and things like that.
00:01:36.959 --> 00:01:39.359
I am still looking to go back to Eastern.
00:01:39.519 --> 00:01:47.599
I just wanted to like, you know, just check out my options in case, you know, I I didn't really agree with the pick of the coaches or things like that.
00:01:47.680 --> 00:01:56.319
But they did announce um the new head coach, she's from RPI, and I uh I've been uh waiting to contact her actually.
00:01:56.560 --> 00:02:00.159
Um so it's it's not a done deal then.
00:02:00.319 --> 00:02:03.280
You you may return to ECSU East to ECS.
00:02:03.519 --> 00:02:04.319
Yes, um, yeah.
00:02:04.400 --> 00:02:14.080
I was just like, you know, keeping it safe, keeping a few schools in my back pocket just to make sure, you know, I have a place to call home if I wasn't happy at Eastern.
00:02:14.639 --> 00:02:15.120
Gotcha.
00:02:15.199 --> 00:02:15.439
Okay.
00:02:15.599 --> 00:02:18.560
Well, what what have the uh first two years been like for you up there?
00:02:18.639 --> 00:02:28.240
I mean, obviously on the field, it's it's been nothing but success, it seems, but you know, when you left left Coventry to to go to Eastern, did it was it everything that you thought it would be?
00:02:29.199 --> 00:02:31.919
Um, I guess I would say so.
00:02:32.319 --> 00:02:40.879
Um it was just like it was definitely a big jump from high school to college, even like I know it's a division three level, but the hitters are better.
00:02:41.039 --> 00:02:45.599
You got we're playing again six years on uh UMass Boston.
00:02:45.759 --> 00:02:50.240
So these girls have a lot of college experience, and so it was definitely a big jump.
00:02:50.479 --> 00:03:00.319
Um I love my teammates, they're like my best friends, bridesmaids, like Coach Pep did a great job of picking those out, that's for sure.
00:03:00.639 --> 00:03:07.360
Um but you know, there was you know some bumps in the road here and there.
00:03:07.520 --> 00:03:12.479
I mean, I obviously would love to win more since we were more of like a 500 team.
00:03:12.879 --> 00:03:18.800
Um, that was like a big thing for me that you know we would lose by one run, two runs.
00:03:19.120 --> 00:03:22.080
Um, that would really drive me crazy for sure.
00:03:22.240 --> 00:03:29.120
Um, but other than that, it truly is, I guess, everything I was hoping for in a college experience.
00:03:30.240 --> 00:03:33.280
And you know, you know, last year, just what a season for you.
00:03:33.439 --> 00:03:35.439
Uh and and it's kind of crazy.
00:03:35.520 --> 00:03:37.120
You talk about all those close losses.
00:03:37.199 --> 00:03:45.599
You were 12 and 8 record-wise, you personally, yet you were named the Little East Conference pitcher of the year because you had such a great year.
00:03:45.759 --> 00:03:52.080
126 hits allowed, only 38 walks, 112 strikeouts, an ERA of 2.08.
00:03:52.319 --> 00:04:02.639
Even as a battery, you hit 351, you had 16 RBIs, you scored 24 runs, had a couple home runs, still none bigger than the home run you hit in the state championship game for Coventry, I think.
00:04:02.800 --> 00:04:04.639
Uh, which I remember well.
00:04:04.879 --> 00:04:10.000
Um, but the the thing that jumped out at me is we had Coach Pepin on a few weeks ago, Rob.
00:04:10.159 --> 00:04:11.199
You remember that, I'm sure.
00:04:11.599 --> 00:04:18.639
And do you remember when I asked her who who the one player is that she would want, like, you know, in that strikeout moment or the at bat?
00:04:18.800 --> 00:04:29.120
I sure it was a uh uh yeah, a lady named uh Molly Rathburn, and she was the last Little East Conference pitcher of the year from Eastern since Elizabeth Mitchell.
00:04:29.199 --> 00:04:34.079
So that shows you the class of of level that that Miss Mitchell's at here, I think, anyway.
00:04:34.240 --> 00:04:39.600
So but uh did that surprise you at all, Liz, to be named the the league's pitcher of the year?
00:04:40.079 --> 00:04:55.519
Um it didn't, didn't thank God the awards got picked before the conference started, the conference room started because at the end of the season I I started we started to tank as like a team, and like you know, I was letting up too many runs and hits.
00:04:55.680 --> 00:05:00.879
Um because my record going in before like the last six games was pretty good.
00:05:01.040 --> 00:05:15.439
I think I was like 10 and like three or four, and then really after the tournament started, I was on like a six-game losing streak and never uh came back from that during the season.
00:05:15.680 --> 00:05:21.279
But um I worked really hard with my pitching coach, um, Yesenia Everisto.
00:05:21.600 --> 00:05:24.959
She really helped me out a lot when I got to Eastern.
00:05:25.040 --> 00:05:29.759
I mean, over the two years, we've been I never even had a curveball become before coming to college.
00:05:29.920 --> 00:05:38.240
And she taught me that curveball and like she really pushed me to become a better pitcher because she knew what I had inside me.
00:05:38.319 --> 00:05:42.000
Like I really, truthfully, I love winning so much.
00:05:42.160 --> 00:05:44.959
I I hate losing more than I like winning at the end of the day.
00:05:45.040 --> 00:05:46.720
That's what we always used to say.
00:05:47.120 --> 00:05:55.759
Um, but I did get my freshman year, so you know I had to uphold that standard, and I I was really working hard to get it.
00:05:55.839 --> 00:06:01.600
But I wouldn't say it surprised me, but I was just more grateful to be named the pitcher of the year.
00:06:02.079 --> 00:06:22.000
00:06:22.079 --> 00:06:25.759
Um, I mean, obviously you're an incredibly talented pitcher and and player.
00:06:26.000 --> 00:06:32.879
You know, I've seen you do it at the high school level, but what was it that allowed you to have that type of success at the college level?
00:06:33.600 --> 00:06:40.959
Um, I definitely I think it was like more the motivation of you know coming in as a freshman.
00:06:41.120 --> 00:06:47.199
There was older girls, um, like a senior who is a pitcher that's been there for four years.
00:06:47.439 --> 00:06:54.720
So I definitely like wanting to earn that number one spot definitely pushed me to be super motivated.
00:06:54.959 --> 00:06:59.040
Um the just the level of play is just different.
00:06:59.199 --> 00:07:00.639
The speed of the game.
00:07:00.879 --> 00:07:08.240
Um in high school, honestly, if I had the spin I did now, I don't think we would have lost a game in high school.
00:07:08.399 --> 00:07:14.720
Um, even though my spin is really all not that great at the end of the day for the college level, we're still working on that.
00:07:15.279 --> 00:07:21.199
Um but what could you buy in high school?
00:07:21.279 --> 00:07:27.839
Was it just hitting your spots and and and you know, fastball changeup routine, or what do you think made you so successful?
00:07:28.240 --> 00:07:39.600
In high school, it was only really the first before batteries I could hit, and then the rest of the lineup was, you know, whoever they could scramble up in the class S um schools.
00:07:39.839 --> 00:07:43.600
So, you know, the nobody really had a lineup that was one through nine.
00:07:43.839 --> 00:07:56.560
I mean, I think we had a lineup that was maybe one through six, you know, and we were still at the higher level of class S, but um, hitting spots definitely was a big thing.
00:07:56.720 --> 00:08:16.160
00:08:16.319 --> 00:08:23.040
That's definitely what I think has made me more successful is definitely tunneling those pitches to get batters to chase.
00:08:23.120 --> 00:08:27.199
Think that it's coming inside when in reality it's going out.
00:08:28.560 --> 00:08:33.279
Well, I think you summed up that you know you talk about the top four hitters and some of the class S lineups.
00:08:33.360 --> 00:08:37.519
A lot of those kids are going to college, so colleges are filled with top four hitters, right?
00:08:37.600 --> 00:08:42.080
From you know, one through nine, the number nine hitter was probably hitting somewhere in the top four.
00:08:42.399 --> 00:08:43.600
Yeah, definitely.
00:08:43.759 --> 00:08:53.440
Um, because there was even on my high school team, there was girls who were sitting the bench on my high school team that would be in the top four for other schools that we play.
00:08:53.600 --> 00:08:58.320
So that was like kind of cool to be a part of, like, you know, a very talented high school team.
00:08:58.480 --> 00:08:59.440
Not many girls can say that.
00:08:59.519 --> 00:09:01.519
I mean, can't really recruit in high school.
00:09:01.600 --> 00:09:06.639
So, you know, you really get what you get with everybody moving up into high school.
00:09:06.879 --> 00:09:16.080
But I I definitely am grateful I had such like a talented team because, you know, like Cam Fisher, I talk about her all the time.
00:09:16.480 --> 00:09:22.960
She's absolutely fantastic, but she didn't have much run support, you know, in Ellington.
00:09:23.039 --> 00:09:34.559
So just it was nice having growing up playing with Julia Boya, Remy, um we had uh Brooke Blue and Lila.
00:09:34.799 --> 00:09:36.159
We all played for the Bombers.
00:09:36.559 --> 00:09:47.919
Even uh Caroline and Charlotte Weslowski, we all played for the Bombers growing up, so there was more than just playing softball during the spring season, it was all year round.
00:09:48.080 --> 00:09:53.440
So the talent definitely shined through and we needed it in a big spot in high school.
00:09:54.080 --> 00:09:54.799
Oh, for sure.
00:09:55.759 --> 00:10:01.600
The Coventry team that you talked about, your senior year that won the state title was a good one.
00:10:01.759 --> 00:10:05.279
And that's one of those teams that you always wish that at the end of every tournament.
00:10:05.440 --> 00:10:06.799
Rob, I think you would agree with this.
00:10:06.879 --> 00:10:10.240
I would love to see Class S take on the class double L champion.
00:10:10.320 --> 00:10:10.639
No class.
00:10:10.960 --> 00:10:12.399
Class M play Class L.
00:10:12.559 --> 00:10:24.240
And especially in a sport like softball and or baseball, where you know it would be uh I think that would be a lot of fun to end with just one state champ that says it's the best team, you know, in the state.
00:10:24.399 --> 00:10:26.080
So but that's not the way it is.
00:10:26.159 --> 00:10:28.480
But but what led you to the softball field, Liz?
00:10:28.559 --> 00:10:34.480
I mean, why how did you become a softball player rather than running track or you know, playing lacrosse or something like that?
00:10:34.879 --> 00:10:38.000
Because I absolutely hate running with my whole heart.
00:10:38.879 --> 00:10:46.960
All you either you gotta make it 60 feet and then keep going, or you hit the ball really far so you can jog around the bases.
00:10:47.039 --> 00:10:48.080
That's about it.
00:10:48.320 --> 00:10:54.480
Um I started my parents put me in all different types of sports when I was little to see what I liked.
00:10:54.559 --> 00:10:56.320
Soccer was absolutely my least favorite.
00:10:56.399 --> 00:10:59.759
I think I made it to about three games, and that was enough for me.
00:11:00.159 --> 00:11:04.000
Um but they put me-too much running, right?
00:11:04.159 --> 00:11:04.960
Yeah, exactly.
00:11:05.039 --> 00:11:05.200
Yep.
00:11:05.519 --> 00:11:08.240
When I was like four years old, I already knew I hated running.
00:11:08.480 --> 00:11:12.960
Um and then they put me into T-ball, you know, that's fun and all.
00:11:13.440 --> 00:11:27.039
Um, and then, you know, I started to grow up and I kept playing baseball with the boys, and I'm around like eight years old, and my parents were not happy with these practices, and I live across the street from Julia Boya.
00:11:27.360 --> 00:11:31.120
Um, that was my junior year center fielder.
00:11:31.279 --> 00:11:33.759
Um, and now I play uh Eastern with her.
00:11:34.000 --> 00:11:40.399
I live right across the street from her, and her dad was like, Why don't you come try softball?
00:11:40.480 --> 00:11:43.600
You know, just come to practice and see if you like it.
00:11:43.679 --> 00:11:53.679
And her older sister played, and I I just started, you know, getting to know the girls and I was having a lot of fun, and then it just never stopped.
00:11:53.840 --> 00:11:55.519
It was always go time.
00:11:55.600 --> 00:12:09.840
It was then we did wreck, and then I joined the bombers at nine years old and played for the tenure team, and then we were on the all-star team together, and then you know, it's just kind of a routine to you know as soon as that season ended.
00:12:10.159 --> 00:12:12.320
When's the next time we could play softball?
00:12:12.639 --> 00:12:22.159
So and who who who was the uh bright side or who had the great idea to say, hey Liz, this is the pitcher's mound.
00:12:22.320 --> 00:12:23.600
Let's see what you can do.
00:12:24.000 --> 00:12:26.240
I think that was me, if I'm gonna be honest.
00:12:26.399 --> 00:12:34.080
Um, Julia Boya's sister Abby Boya, she was a pitcher and she was very tall for her age, and she looked like she was having fun.
00:12:34.240 --> 00:12:35.600
I was like, man, I want to do that.
00:12:35.759 --> 00:12:52.480
And then I said to my dad one day, and he grabbed the bucket and we went out in the backyard, and I probably didn't hit his glove once, but then we came back out the next day, and maybe I hit his glove once that time, and then it progressively it just got better, and we were having fun.
00:12:52.720 --> 00:13:02.320
You know, I was starting to throw strikes, it definitely wasn't very fast, but you know, I just thought, you know, that that just looks like the most fun spot on the field.
00:13:02.399 --> 00:13:12.000
I'm they're they're in control always, and you know, they're always touching the ball when you're playing like rec, you know, you're in the outfield, you're not ever gonna see a ball.
00:13:12.240 --> 00:13:15.759
And I I I just want to be a part of the action, you know what I mean?
00:13:16.879 --> 00:13:19.279
How did you deal with the pressure of that situation though?
00:13:19.360 --> 00:13:26.159
You know, especially as a younger pitcher when you don't have your best stuff and maybe you walk three or four or five or six, you know, players a game.
00:13:26.399 --> 00:13:30.159
How were you able to overcome that at a young age to keep working?
00:13:31.039 --> 00:13:33.679
It's just a mentality that I've just never cared.
00:13:33.840 --> 00:13:37.200
I mean, honestly, it's like, okay, whatever, let's just move on.
00:13:37.279 --> 00:13:39.279
You know, you can't like dwell on things.
00:13:39.360 --> 00:13:41.200
And I think I've always thought that way.
00:13:41.360 --> 00:13:44.080
That I just like, whatever, move on.
00:13:44.320 --> 00:13:48.639
You know, if the more you sit there and dwell on it, the worse and worse it's gonna get.
00:13:48.879 --> 00:13:51.919
And that's just not the type of player I am.
00:13:52.000 --> 00:13:54.320
Like, even now, I gotta let up like a home run.
00:13:54.480 --> 00:13:56.240
I'm like, whatever, can't get that one back.
00:13:56.320 --> 00:13:57.120
Let's get the next one.
00:13:57.200 --> 00:13:59.279
Like, let me let me strike out this next girl.
00:13:59.440 --> 00:14:01.679
Like, that sucked, but we gotta move on.
00:14:01.919 --> 00:14:06.879
So there, like the pressure aspect, I don't really feel.
00:14:07.039 --> 00:14:14.240
I just want to be able to support my team and help help them win, and that's kind of it.
00:14:14.480 --> 00:14:18.559
I'm I'm having more fun than anything out there, if I'm gonna be honest.
00:14:19.519 --> 00:14:24.240
You know, you know, had soccer taken a hold, I think you would have been a great soccer goalie.
00:14:24.399 --> 00:14:30.639
No running, and you have to have that qu you have to have that forget forget it mentality once the ball gets by you.
00:14:30.799 --> 00:14:34.000
So um, but but thankfully you found your way to the softball field.
00:14:34.080 --> 00:14:42.080
And and again, your Coventry career, I mean, I mean, you were the uh you know, in the middle of just what was a class S powerhouse back then.
00:14:42.240 --> 00:14:51.360
And and how much fun was that to represent your town, your friends, your schoolmates, and and leading up to that senior year, you know, what a day that was for you.
00:14:51.440 --> 00:14:57.279
I think you graduated in the morning and and hit that home run in the state championship game at Yukon that night.
00:14:57.440 --> 00:14:59.919
Just what was that ride like for you?
00:15:00.240 --> 00:15:01.200
Oh, it was so fun.
00:15:01.360 --> 00:15:03.759
My freshman year, I had like a back injury.
00:15:03.919 --> 00:15:06.000
I had fluid in my back from pitching.
00:15:06.080 --> 00:15:12.159
It was more of a my foot hitting the ground and like playing inside during the winter, and it was just killing me.
00:15:12.320 --> 00:15:17.440
So my freshman year, there was I was doing game changer and losing my mind.
00:15:17.600 --> 00:15:20.879
I just I just cannot sit still, especially watching softball.
00:15:21.120 --> 00:15:24.000
And then my sophomore year, we had a great run.
00:15:24.240 --> 00:15:28.000
Um, we only had one senior, so we still had like a younger staff.
00:15:28.159 --> 00:15:32.480
So I knew like within the next two years we were definitely going to be successful.
00:15:32.960 --> 00:15:41.519
Um, I think we made it to the quarter semi my sophomore year, but there was definitely still a lot of growth I had to do.
00:15:41.840 --> 00:15:50.399
And then junior year, um, at the beginning of the season, it started out like a little rocky, you know, we're not hitting the ball great.
00:15:50.480 --> 00:16:00.799
And then throughout there, just having like those senior captains, Julia, Remy, Lindsay, they definitely just helped us get to the state championship.
00:16:00.879 --> 00:16:06.000
And, you know, they graduated on that day, and we beat Cromwell three to two in the championship.
00:16:06.080 --> 00:16:08.320
So that was absolutely awesome.
00:16:08.480 --> 00:16:11.120
I mean, that's the first time we ever won the state championship.
00:16:11.279 --> 00:16:21.279
And those are my best friends that I grew up with, so it was awesome getting to see them graduate in the morning, hustling home, celebrating for about five minutes and throwing on our uniform.
00:16:21.440 --> 00:16:25.840
And then, you know, if we did it once, we got to do it again.
00:16:26.000 --> 00:16:39.679
So my senior year, you know, it was it was hard not having older people to look up to, but I was like, okay, I'm the oldest girl, like we're I'm gonna have to take it from here.
00:16:40.320 --> 00:16:47.440
Um, and then just trying to keep the girls on track, making sure like practices were intentful.
00:16:47.600 --> 00:16:52.559
You know how sometimes where high school can just be like kind of like a bigger joke here and there.
00:16:53.039 --> 00:16:58.559
Um, but just making sure practices were intentful, talking to Jeff and be like, hey, do you think we could do this at practice today?
00:16:58.639 --> 00:17:04.240
And he's like, sure, if he was always down to, you know, do fun drills and make the team better.
00:17:04.400 --> 00:17:07.039
So I really appreciate having that relationship with him.
00:17:07.119 --> 00:17:11.599
And then, you know, we just worked on hitting.
00:17:11.680 --> 00:17:16.000
I'd throw live to them and going through the tournament.
00:17:16.559 --> 00:17:21.279
It it's just like a crazy ride, and we're just like, okay, we've made it this far, we can't stop here.
00:17:21.359 --> 00:17:28.079
And then we finally made it to the state championship again, and we're like, well, we gotta defend our turf.
00:17:28.160 --> 00:17:30.480
We won last year, we can't lose this year.
00:17:30.640 --> 00:17:40.400
And then we ended up just turning it up on Holy Cross, and it wasn't even close after the fourth inning, so we knew we had it in the bag after like the third or fourth inning.
00:17:41.519 --> 00:17:45.279
And that home run, I mean, is that a moment you're gonna remember for the rest of your days?
00:17:45.359 --> 00:17:52.000
You know, that that you when when you know your grandchild first picks up a softball, you're gonna be able to relate that story.
00:17:52.079 --> 00:17:53.759
Is that something you're never gonna forget?
00:17:54.079 --> 00:17:55.359
Yeah, absolutely not.
00:17:55.519 --> 00:18:03.279
I mean, going to Yukon twice and winning on that field, I've always wanted that was like my dream school to play softball there.
00:18:03.519 --> 00:18:07.359
And being able to do it on that field is just fantastic.
00:18:07.519 --> 00:18:13.039
And then with the group of girls we had, I mean, my junior year, we sold out the stadium.
00:18:13.200 --> 00:18:15.359
There was so many people on the hill.
00:18:15.599 --> 00:18:19.519
And then my senior year, I'm pretty sure we sold out the stadium again.
00:18:19.680 --> 00:18:21.279
There was absolutely nowhere to sit.
00:18:21.359 --> 00:18:28.799
And then I come around second base and I just throw my hands up in the air and I look at the crowd, and I mean, like, that was it.
00:18:29.359 --> 00:18:34.960
This is that that could have been my last, you know, home run in my high school career.
00:18:35.119 --> 00:18:39.279
And I just had to take it all in and have them like coming through like the crowd.
00:18:39.519 --> 00:18:41.440
Um coming into home.
00:18:41.519 --> 00:18:45.279
I mean, these girls were I've never seen their faces so happy.
00:18:45.440 --> 00:18:51.759
Everybody was just like, it was like a surreal day, and we have a bunch of videos of it and stuff like that.
00:18:51.920 --> 00:19:05.759
And you me and my dad go back and watch some sometimes together because he like we just sit and like we bask in those memories because how amazing they were and like how grateful we are to like people to experience those memories.
00:19:06.480 --> 00:19:14.880
Oh, trust me, I'm I'm still I still when I go up back to Maine and see my friends, I still celebrate my 200th career JB basketball point.
00:19:16.000 --> 00:19:21.839
You know, you're you're gonna be talking about that home run forever because I I know it had to be just a special moment.
00:19:22.000 --> 00:19:25.119
I I love this relationship with you and and Julia Boya too.
00:19:25.200 --> 00:19:29.920
I I wasn't aware of this at all, and and that would have been a great story for the uh CT softball blog.
00:19:30.000 --> 00:19:34.559
So maybe if you stay at Easton, that's something I can do uh before you guys both graduate.
00:19:34.799 --> 00:19:36.640
But uh are you guys more than friends?
00:19:37.119 --> 00:19:38.640
Is it almost like your sisters?
00:19:38.799 --> 00:19:42.880
Because you grew up from such a young age together and have always you know bonded over this sport.
00:19:42.960 --> 00:19:44.720
I mean, are you guys really that tight?
00:19:45.039 --> 00:19:52.240
The way we got an infight, let me tell you, I think you would if there was a label of more than sisters, I would say you'd label it that.
00:19:52.480 --> 00:19:56.079
Um we bicker back and forth like we are related.
00:19:56.240 --> 00:20:03.920
I'm not even kidding, but we've I they moved in and my parents went over there for a housewarming party when I was four.
00:20:04.079 --> 00:20:07.680
And ever since then, um we've been best friends.
00:20:07.920 --> 00:20:11.039
Um she's a pain in my ass.
00:20:11.200 --> 00:20:12.319
I'm a pain in hers.
00:20:12.480 --> 00:20:18.240
But we we've literally played softball together since I've been eight years old.
00:20:18.480 --> 00:20:23.519
So I mean, we've never not been on a team together unless it was my bomber's team.
00:20:23.759 --> 00:20:31.440
Um, because after 10U, she moved up and I stayed because I was only nine at the time, so I had another year of eligibility.
00:20:31.519 --> 00:20:45.599
And then once my team dispersed, I joined her team again, and then I played with her through high school, and then now this is her last year of college, so if I stay Eastern, you know, there's never gonna be a time where we haven't been playing together.
00:20:45.839 --> 00:20:48.400
So wow, that is amazing.
00:20:48.559 --> 00:20:51.279
Well, what is what is the time frame for your decision?
00:20:51.359 --> 00:20:59.440
Uh is it is the first thing, and again, I you know, don't say who the coach is because the school hasn't released it yet, and I don't I don't want you to get in trouble at all.
00:20:59.519 --> 00:21:02.240
Uh, you know, if you do do if you do go back.
00:21:02.400 --> 00:21:14.480
Um but is it more meet the new coach, sit down, talk with them, get a feel for it, and then decide, or you know, have you have you put a a time frame down for for when you want to decide what's up with your future?
00:21:14.880 --> 00:21:18.799
Um, no, I I'm more like taking it easy and relaxing.
00:21:19.039 --> 00:21:21.279
I'm not like worried about it or anything.
00:21:21.440 --> 00:21:32.720
Um, I definitely do want to talk to the coach just to ensure that my spot is still there Eastern because she could be like, hey, I don't want you back since you entered the transfer portal and things like that.
00:21:32.960 --> 00:21:39.200
So um I'm definitely gonna talk to her soon.
00:21:39.440 --> 00:21:49.519
But, you know, I I think since she was my top pick in the interviewing process, that I'm more than likely to go back, especially with like the life I've created at Eastern.
00:21:49.759 --> 00:21:52.799
I'm 15 minutes from home, I'm with my best friends.
00:21:53.039 --> 00:21:59.440
You know, I have um I'm living with these girls I just met last year, and they're just my best.
00:22:00.160 --> 00:22:05.680
Friends now and two of them play on the softball team, so it's kind of hard to walk away from that.
00:22:05.920 --> 00:22:11.680
And I I definitely think by like early August I'll have my decision.
00:22:11.759 --> 00:22:16.720
But I I think there's a very good uh good chance I'll be going back to Eastern.
00:22:17.039 --> 00:22:25.359
Yeah, and without naming names, did other players kind of do the option route too that you know put yourself in the transport portal just in case?
00:22:25.519 --> 00:22:29.359
Or or were you the outlier who just kind of did it on your own?
00:22:30.240 --> 00:22:44.880
The outlier, I mean, all these girls are just kind of sitting like sitting and waiting to see what's going on, but I don't think it ever really crossed any of their minds to enter the transfer portal, especially if it did.
00:22:45.039 --> 00:22:49.119
I mean, some of these girls only have one more year left, so it wouldn't be worth it.
00:22:49.599 --> 00:22:52.079
Um and you know, Eastern's a great place to be.
00:22:52.160 --> 00:22:54.000
We're with a good group of girls.
00:22:54.559 --> 00:22:58.160
The campus is beautiful, most of it, anyway.
00:22:58.319 --> 00:23:00.799
And you know, we ha we have a lot of fun together.
00:23:00.960 --> 00:23:08.480
So the thought of leaving was hard, but I mean, um I was just I told them, I texted them before I even entered the transfer portal.
00:23:08.559 --> 00:23:12.880
I texted the whole group chat and I was like, listen, I'm just taking a look around.
00:23:12.960 --> 00:23:21.599
I'm I'm not saying I'm leaving, um, but I'm just taking a look around just to see what my options are just in case you know things do go south.
00:23:22.160 --> 00:23:26.960
And as of right now, I'm pretty happy with the decision that the school made.
00:23:27.039 --> 00:23:33.200
I appreciate it because I think it is she was the best um coach for the job.
00:23:33.519 --> 00:23:35.759
I I I personally I think she was awesome.
00:23:35.920 --> 00:23:39.440
So I'm definitely excited to see what happens next.
00:23:40.400 --> 00:23:40.799
That's great.
00:23:40.880 --> 00:23:47.519
And and be it at Eastern or wherever you land, kind of what are your hopes and goals for your the final two years of your college career?
00:23:48.559 --> 00:23:51.440
Um, we gotta win a conference title this year.
00:23:51.519 --> 00:23:53.759
If I say Eastern, we have to win.
00:23:53.920 --> 00:23:58.640
Um, we were projected to win last year, but those rankings really don't mean anything.
00:23:58.880 --> 00:24:04.319
Um I know that because in high school we were always projected never to win the state championship.
00:24:04.400 --> 00:24:11.200
It was always North Brantford or Cromwell or whoever above us, and we always had to prove them wrong.
00:24:11.359 --> 00:24:24.480
And I think this year we got a little comfortable because we were ranked number one in the LAC rankings, but I always knew from day one that those rankings don't mean anything, they're just a wild guess at the end of the day.
00:24:24.720 --> 00:24:31.680
Um so yeah, I mean, we really need to win a conference title.
00:24:31.759 --> 00:24:34.720
I would love to go on to regionals and even super regionals.
00:24:34.880 --> 00:24:49.839
I mean going past that is pushing it because there are some really talented teams in Division III, but I just want to be able to go experience that and travel the country with my best friends and you know have the NCAA pay for it too, so we don't have to fundraise it.
00:24:50.079 --> 00:24:52.559
That's that does help.
00:24:52.720 --> 00:25:11.920
00:25:12.079 --> 00:25:14.240
And she put losing to UMass Boston.
00:25:14.319 --> 00:25:18.319
Yeah, which of course which of course is you know the big league league rival there.
00:25:18.400 --> 00:25:26.559
So uh so I thought that was uh that pretty much sums up uh Liz Mitchell right there in in terms of how much she hates losing, especially to that team.
00:25:26.640 --> 00:25:27.359
Am I right?
00:25:27.680 --> 00:25:30.240
Yeah, and we did not let that happen again this year.
00:25:30.400 --> 00:25:38.400
We played them at their home turf and beat them twice, and it was dude, I it was the greatest day.
00:25:38.480 --> 00:25:43.920
You would have you would have thought we won the national championship the way we celebrated.
00:25:44.079 --> 00:25:47.279
I mean, because they're like it's always a great game against them.
00:25:47.359 --> 00:26:01.519
It's a lot of fun against them because they do they give us their best game, we give them our best game, and you know, it's we always keep it respectful, but it definitely is fun to have that competition where you're just like you guys just want to rip each other's heads off.
00:26:01.759 --> 00:26:07.119
Um, but yeah, we we made sure that we did not lose to them this year, that's for sure.
00:26:07.440 --> 00:26:08.880
I was last question.
00:26:09.440 --> 00:26:17.359
I was just gonna add, John, that I I read Liz's bio also, and uh full respect in agreement with the fact that you love the smell of the air in Florida.
00:26:17.519 --> 00:26:18.319
I'm gonna add that.
00:26:19.359 --> 00:26:29.200
As soon as we get off the plane for spring break, um every the two years I've been at Eastern, we've gone to Florida for spring break, and it's just like the best time.
00:26:29.279 --> 00:26:30.799
It's the best smell.
00:26:31.039 --> 00:26:34.400
You know, we're in a house together, all together.
00:26:34.559 --> 00:26:36.960
You know, we're on our worst behavior this year.
00:26:37.039 --> 00:26:40.000
We're doing belly flop competitions in the pool.
00:26:40.400 --> 00:26:44.960
Um you know, we're so what I think.
00:26:47.680 --> 00:26:53.759
What I hear you saying then is if uh if uh Florida college reaches out to you while you're in the transfer portal, uh-oh.
00:26:53.920 --> 00:26:54.640
No, I'm just kidding.
00:26:54.720 --> 00:26:55.279
I'm just kidding.
00:26:55.440 --> 00:26:57.759
But I mean, I'm not opposed to it.
00:26:57.920 --> 00:27:09.359
You know, New Tampa, U Tampa was always the D Division II school I wanted to play for in Florida, but you know, I'm thinking I'd I'd be more the water girl there than uh, you know, in the top three.
00:27:09.680 --> 00:27:14.079
So yeah, you really gotta pick and choose what's realistic, you know.
00:27:14.400 --> 00:27:15.200
No, for sure.
00:27:15.359 --> 00:27:28.720
Uh last question I had for you, Liz, was you know, if you walked up to Norwich to a CT bomber's 10U practice and and could give those kids a little bit of advice for for what's coming down the pike for the rest of their career.
00:27:28.880 --> 00:27:40.079
Well, or or even if you could, you know, say to yourself when you go back when you were 10U or 9U, what advice would you give a young player like that that that really, really wants a future in this sport?
00:27:40.720 --> 00:27:44.000
I would say like stop thinking about the future so much.
00:27:44.240 --> 00:27:56.000
Because at the end of the day, I think about it, I'm like, we won so much when we were 10, uh, 11, like not 11U, we got our butt kicked in 11U because you know, you're playing against the 12U teams.
00:27:56.160 --> 00:28:02.000
But the 10U, we won so much, 13, 14 you, we won as a team so much.
00:28:02.079 --> 00:28:08.559
And you know, I kind of was always thinking about the future instead of what was happening right then and there.
00:28:08.799 --> 00:28:15.599
So being able to just like really sit with those memories and be where your feet are when that's going on.
00:28:15.839 --> 00:28:24.400
Um when it is time to, you know, and like look for college and stuff like that, don't be so like stressed because at the end of the day, it all works out.
00:28:24.559 --> 00:28:27.759
Like you will go where you're meant to be.
00:28:28.000 --> 00:28:30.559
Um, even if you know I I committed to St.
00:28:30.640 --> 00:28:33.680
Peter's and clear that wasn't where I was meant to be.
00:28:33.920 --> 00:28:38.160
Um Peppa's been recruiting me since I've been nine years old.
00:28:38.240 --> 00:28:43.440
She's she's always been like, hey, like, you know, she like come to my camps, this and that.
00:28:43.599 --> 00:28:45.759
And you know, I've known her forever.
00:28:46.079 --> 00:28:52.960
So being with her was definitely the best thing that could have happened for the beginning of my college career.
00:28:53.359 --> 00:28:59.359
But I would just say, you know, live in those memories now and stop worrying so much about the future.
00:29:00.880 --> 00:29:03.680
And the time flies, that's for sure, doesn't it, Robin?
00:29:04.160 --> 00:29:05.039
It definitely does.
00:29:05.200 --> 00:29:06.400
It it sure does.
00:29:06.640 --> 00:29:08.480
A great conversation, Liz.
00:29:08.559 --> 00:29:13.359
Uh um, your honesty is so, and you know, you're so candid, it's so refreshing.
00:29:13.440 --> 00:29:15.920
I I really enjoyed listening to what you have to say.
00:29:16.000 --> 00:29:18.480
And wherever you are, uh, we'll be rooting for you.
00:29:18.640 --> 00:29:20.240
Big things ahead for you.
00:29:20.640 --> 00:29:21.440
Thank you.
00:29:21.759 --> 00:29:25.759
Our pleasure, John, that'll do it for this edition of the Inside Corner.
00:29:25.839 --> 00:29:28.480
We'll do it again soon, I'm quite sure.
00:29:29.039 --> 00:29:39.519
We will, and and it's funny because actually Liz did bring up one of our upcoming guests, the new head coach at uh Mitchell College, Coach Sen, her former pitching coach at Eastern.
00:29:39.680 --> 00:29:44.640
So you'll be hearing from uh from her as well as as you know, Liz once we post this.
00:29:44.799 --> 00:29:49.359
So it's uh such a small world in you know in Connecticut softball.
00:29:49.440 --> 00:29:51.599
And that's that's one of the great things about the blog.
00:29:51.839 --> 00:29:52.960
Yep, sure is.
00:29:53.119 --> 00:29:55.680
All right, that'll do it for this edition for John Nash.
00:29:55.759 --> 00:29:56.559
I'm Rob Adams.
00:29:56.640 --> 00:29:58.400
You've been listening to the Inside Court.
