Looking back, Henry Cavill is glad he wasn't cast as James Bond.
The actor was discussed as a possible 007 in 2006. He prevailed in the castings until the finale, where the producers had to choose between him and Daniel Craig. The latter was finally able to assert himself against his competitor and stood in front of the camera for five films in the secret agent Series.
In fact, Cavill believes the right decision was made back then as Craig had significantly more experience. "They told me I was close and that it was just me and Daniel. I was the younger option," he says on the 'Happy Sad Confused' podcast. "They naturally chose Daniel and I think that was a wonderful decision."
The Hollywood star admits he most likely wasn't "ready" for such a big role at the time. "Daniel has done an amazing job on the last few films, so I'm happy with this decision," he explains. Cavill's career really took off in the years that followed. In 2013, he landed the role of Superman in the DC blockbuster 'Man of Steel', which gave him his big break.
Looking back, the actor has no regrets about his failed Bond audition: "It was a fun adventure at the time and it definitely gave my career a boost. That was the key element.”
