Speaker 1: Mike Gallagher. Every day, Mike visits with Mark Davis. Morning host on 660 AM, The Answer in Dallas. Here's today's Eminem experience.
00:01:17
Speaker 3: We're probably going to do it tomorrow afternoon because today I better block out the entire day. I mean the entire day because this afternoon we're doing the seven-hour film experience of You can see everything. We're doing that.
00:01:32
Speaker 2: It's not seven hours. It's two and a half, maybe 245. It's every bit of three. It won't feel like it. That's what I understand. Listen, tell me about your voting experience. Then I'll give you movie anticipation. Two things. I just love how here in Florida... They identify your driver's license like it's an episode of Forensic Files. I mean, they are scanning it. They are staring at it. They are looking at the front of it. They're looking at the back of it. They're making sure that the codes match up. It's a great system. I mean, you know, in other words, we care about showing that you are who you say you are when you show up to vote. It's a crazy idea. It's a novel concept.
00:02:12
Speaker 3: Imagine that.
00:02:13
Speaker 2: They don't do that in New York or Florida. I mean, or California or Illinois. It is. And look, it was busy. It was busy. Here we are, you know, less than two weeks away and a lot of early voters, a lot of enthusiasm. Met a nice young man. They had a tent set up outside of the polling place, your conservative voting headquarters, and they gave me a cheat sheet about all the different races. Because, look, I'm engaged, but I don't know a lot of the city council. But I'll tell you what I enthusiastically voted yes for.
00:02:48
Speaker 1: Yeah.
00:02:49
Speaker 2: Amendment 3 in Florida. Yeah. begins the path under Governor DeSantis' leadership of eliminating property tax altogether.
00:02:58
Speaker 3: Imagine that, what we've been begging for in Texas for years.
00:03:02
Speaker 2: Mark, it is such a profound act of leadership. DeSantis' point is you've worked your whole life and you've paid off your house. Maybe you're getting ready to retire. You've spent 10, 30, 50 years maybe to pay that house off. But then the government says, uh-uh, we're not done with you yet. And you're going to pay us rent for that house for the rest of your life.
00:03:29
Speaker 3: And if you don't, they come get it, meaning you never really own your home.
00:03:32
Speaker 2: It's absurd. It's absurd. And you know what? People say, well, they're going to have to get the revenues. You know what? Get the revenues somewhere else. Figure it out.
00:03:41
Speaker 3: Or, because this has been the eternal argument in Texas, Don Huffines ran for governor against Greg Abbott four years ago, talked about getting rid of property taxes forever. In 10 years? How long do they think it'll take in Florida? How long is the plan? Three to five. So the way they're talking about it now, if Amendment 3 passes, the exemption, they call it a homestead exemption. So you're homesteaded, which incidentally also in Florida gives you a whole bunch of protections where they can't basically come and take your house if, oh, I don't know, you question election integrity or you don't like the vaccine and they want to take your house away. You got all kinds of protections there, too. But the homestead exemption, I think the number, it goes from 50 to 150,000 and eventually 300,000. And eventually you're going to be completely exempted from property taxes altogether.
00:04:30
Speaker 2: So go back to the Huffines, Greg Abbott. So he ran on it.
00:04:34
Speaker 3: And listen, it was I think people thought it was almost too good to be true because all any Texas politician has gone and let obviously an early voting process. God bless Governor Abbott. God bless Dan Patrick. Get in there. Vote for them. Do this. They will always be better than the Democrats that they are running against. But once we get them firmly and comfortably reinstalled, it will be time for the people of Texas to rise up and say enough. Enough talk about, well, I'm going to reduce your property taxes by this much. Yeah, how about reducing them to zero?
00:05:05
Speaker 2: Zero.
00:05:06
Speaker 3: Tell me when you're going to do that.
00:05:07
Speaker 2: Zero, and then we'll talk. Now, Mark, make no mistake. They're going to have to get the revenue somewhere, and I know that.
00:05:14
Speaker 3: But stop, because I've had Huffines on, and Huffines is going to go be Texas Comptroller now, so he's fine, and he and Abbott have made nice, and it's great. But that might be a false, almost lib– Because that presumes that it's almost like you've got to pay for tax cuts.
00:05:34
Speaker 2: No, you don't.
00:05:35
Speaker 3: Just go find things to cut. Go find waste. Go find bloat. Go find fraud. I'll bet if we really got serious about that, even in Texas, we could find all kinds of money lying around.
00:05:46
Speaker 2: Balance the budget, in other words, on the local government level. You are right. I mean, I'm just telling you the way of the world, and local governments aren't going to say, oh, well, now all of a sudden we get– because they're already talking about it here in Florida. Oh, we're going to have to cut back. We're going to have to cut back the police.
00:05:59
Speaker 3: You'll have no cops.
00:06:00
Speaker 2: You'll have no water. You'll have no cops. You'll have no– and we won't have any museums. We're not going to have any museums anymore. We're not going to have it. But here's what Ron DeSantis said. And this is to your point. And once again, you are right. You are correct in the way you pushed back on me. Listen to this. In the past seven years in Florida, property tax revenues across Florida's 67 counties have increased nearly 100%. Local governments are taking in almost twice as much money. Now, the state of Florida, under DeSantis' watch, has reduced its budget four years in a row. So like you said, Mark, then local government has to do the same thing. You figure it out, local government. You're greedy and you guys don't know how to balance budgets. And you're sticking it to the homeowners. But it's still going to come down to the general population at least having that perception. Look, they're going to figure it out somewhere else. This Amendment 3 here in Florida and in every state that tries to do this, it'll come down to the property, the homeowners versus the renters. The renters are going to say, I'm not going to vote for that. Why do I care? I mean, and the homeowners are going to, I hope, enthusiastically vote for it, which is the way I did yesterday. And let's hope and pray it happens. What a glorious day. What a glorious day when a senior can look forward to retirement, going to be on a fixed income. And guess what? You're not going to have to pay that damnable property tax bill.
00:07:32
Speaker 3: No longer renting your house from the government.
00:07:35
Speaker 2: Amen. 100%, 100%. And there's no argument against that. There's no argument against that, period. And I don't care what... Anybody's going to say I'm very passionate about that. I'm also pretty passionate about the debate last night between Mike Rogers and Abdul El-Sayed.
00:07:49
Speaker 3: Tense much? Tense much?
00:07:52
Speaker 2: Abdul is a little nervous, I think. Maybe that little guy. And he is little. Remember, I saw him at the LaGuardia airport and like an idiot. Pardon my French, like a dumbass. I said, good luck. What the heck was I? And he smiled at me.
00:08:08
Speaker 3: Just being gracious in public. Have a throwdown at the terminal? I don't think so.
00:08:11
Speaker 2: Well, no, I should have. I should have said, you're a fascist commie pinko.
00:08:14
Speaker 1: Exactly.
00:08:16
Speaker 2: That wouldn't have gone really well. But anyway, he was sweating last night, and Mike Rogers calling him out with his ties to the Muslim Brotherhood. It's funny.
00:08:26
Speaker 3: He and Ted Cruz both are– there is a narrative that's been developed that this guy cannot be trusted if the Democrats do win the Senate.
00:08:34
