LIVE Postgame REACTIONHouston Cougars v Hampton Pirates, Matthew Mitchell's Year 2 Rebuild Begins

Houston Cougars kick off Matthew Mitchell’s second year with a gritty 73-65 win over Hampton, but persistent press-break issues raise questions about their Big 12 readiness. Izzy Enriquez dazzles with 20 points, proving her JUCO-to-D1 potential, while Elodie Lutbert dominates in limited minutes—yet her foul trouble threatens to overshadow her game-changing presence.

The conversation focused on the impact of freshmen like Maddie Carlton, the team’s adapting rotations with Kaylin Hamilton sidelined, and whether Houston’s backcourt depth can deliver under pressure. Key topics include Loubert’s need to stay on the floor, the Cougars’ low three-point output, and how upcoming matchups against Sam Houston and Stephen F. Austin will reveal their progress. Confidence is high in Mitchell’s coaching pedigree, but can Houston sharpen its execution and rise above last season’s growing pains as the rebuild accelerates?
