00:00:00.479 --> 00:00:03.200
Hey everyone, welcome to the Casey Current Podcast.
00:00:03.279 --> 00:00:12.000
Today we are officially going international as we talk about one of the most exciting pieces of the growing Casey Current ecosystem, the Teal Rising Academy in Brazil.
00:00:12.080 --> 00:00:16.480
And joining us is someone who is super special and really bringing that vision to life.
00:00:16.719 --> 00:00:19.600
Julia Mani, but she only goes by Julia.
00:00:19.679 --> 00:00:21.600
So one word only from here on out.
00:00:21.679 --> 00:00:22.719
It is just Julia.
00:00:22.879 --> 00:00:24.879
Julia, welcome to the show.
00:00:25.039 --> 00:00:26.239
Thank you so much for joining us.
00:00:26.320 --> 00:00:27.839
How are things in Brazil?
00:00:28.399 --> 00:00:30.480
Hey guys, thank you so much for having me.
00:00:30.879 --> 00:00:32.799
It's really a pleasure to be here.
00:00:33.119 --> 00:00:34.560
A lot of things happening here.
00:00:34.719 --> 00:00:37.920
So a lot of games, a lot of things that we are building.
00:00:38.000 --> 00:00:41.600
So I'm very excited to be part of this and very excited of where we are going.
00:00:41.920 --> 00:00:49.920
Yeah, it is such a blessing and an honor to have these conversations with you and how much you are giving to Teal Rising Academy.
00:00:50.240 --> 00:01:05.920
I know we've had a lot of conversations over email, but now we officially get to have a Zoom conversation in person, and our fans get to know a little bit more about you and, you know, take that trip down to Brazil and really see what the behind the scenes are at the Teal Rising Academy.
00:01:06.000 --> 00:01:09.200
So we start these podcasts off with a very personal question.
00:01:09.359 --> 00:01:10.879
We call them current kicks.
00:01:11.120 --> 00:01:16.799
Before we dive into your story, how would you describe Julia in your own words?
00:01:17.120 --> 00:01:19.760
I think I need to say that I'm a very passionate person.
00:01:19.920 --> 00:01:22.319
So everything I do, I do a lot of passion.
00:01:22.400 --> 00:01:26.319
So these work for me is being uh really a dream come true.
00:01:26.480 --> 00:01:28.879
So I'm very excited to be part of this.
00:01:29.200 --> 00:01:32.879
Thank goodness, because there's a lot of work to do down there in Brazil.
00:01:33.040 --> 00:01:41.280
And there are a lot of um young women and girls who are impacted by the work you do and will be impacted for future generations.
00:01:41.680 --> 00:01:44.799
But let's let's start off with your beginnings.
00:01:44.879 --> 00:01:47.920
And before we talk about the Teal Rising Academy, take us back.
00:01:48.159 --> 00:01:52.879
What's your story and um how did football first become part of your life?
00:01:53.760 --> 00:02:00.400
Okay, so um here in Brazil, um, soccer is everywhere, you know.
00:02:00.640 --> 00:02:10.000
So since I was a kid, I used to go to my with my dad to the games, I used to watch him playing, um, I used to play it sometimes.
00:02:10.319 --> 00:02:20.080
So I really started working with soccer when I was like 19, that I was in a social project just for women.
00:02:20.400 --> 00:02:27.840
Um, I started just playing and then I volunteered to help and then I stayed there like almost for five years, kind of.
00:02:28.240 --> 00:02:38.800
And we went from a project that had 50 people to like, I don't know, today I think they have 800 people there, like since seven to adults.
00:02:39.280 --> 00:02:59.759
And uh I actually I am I graduated in architecture, I didn't get graduating anything related to soccer, but it was in my last year of college that I had the opportunity to do a tryout, and then I passed in a tryout, and then I talked to my parents, and they were like, Yeah, it's your dream, just go.
00:03:00.319 --> 00:03:05.919
And I played for a year, it wasn't I wasn't good, really, and that's fine.
00:03:06.159 --> 00:03:08.879
Really, it's okay, no judgment over here, okay?
00:03:09.280 --> 00:03:10.240
No problem with that.
00:03:10.400 --> 00:03:26.639
I think I just had a different um vision of life, of things that the other players had, and then there was this moment that I just realized that I wanted to be in soccer, I want to be part of that, but um in a different way.
00:03:26.879 --> 00:03:47.680
So that was when I finished college and then I graduated, I did a postgraduation, I don't know how you guys call it, but I did um administration and marketing in esports, and that when it started, I worked in Juventus, I worked for almost five years in Red Bull, Bragantino, and then now I'm here.
00:03:48.240 --> 00:03:53.680
Man, so I couldn't help but notice like there's a photo behind you.
00:03:53.840 --> 00:03:55.599
Um it looks like a huddle.
00:03:55.759 --> 00:03:57.360
Uh what is that?
00:03:58.319 --> 00:04:10.000
Um, it was the first team that we had in Red Bull from the um U20s, so it was the first game, and so it's a really important picture for me.
00:04:10.080 --> 00:04:11.599
So I I frame it.
00:04:11.919 --> 00:04:24.639
Was there a moment in your career or maybe in your life that you realized that you wanted to change the next generation of women in soccer or even just like girls in sports?
00:04:25.120 --> 00:04:29.839
Yeah, so um, when I was playing, there was this game against Corinthians.
00:04:30.000 --> 00:04:33.279
Um, as I say, I didn't play very much.
00:04:33.519 --> 00:04:38.879
I wasn't good, so I only entered in the last minutes and everything, and that's fine, really.
00:04:39.439 --> 00:04:43.040
Um I remember entering the field.
00:04:43.199 --> 00:04:58.240
Um, some players were injured, so we had a little more time to talk and see everything, and then I remember looking at the field and the landscape and everything, and I was like, whoa, it's a beautiful day.
00:04:58.399 --> 00:05:08.240
And then I looked at the stand, and there were some some fans there and some kids, and I was like, it was me a year ago, and now I'm here at the field.
00:05:08.560 --> 00:05:13.360
So why can other kids or other people be here?
00:05:13.519 --> 00:05:26.319
You know, I was um very connected to the project at the time, and I I was working with the U 3013 and U11, um, under 11 and under 13.
00:05:26.639 --> 00:05:37.519
So I was seeing that the girls wanted to become professionals, and we didn't had a lot of extra tour in the place we played in the club that we had.
00:05:38.000 --> 00:05:41.199
And that moment it's just it kicked me very hard.
00:05:41.279 --> 00:05:45.360
Like it was that moment for me that changed everything.
00:05:45.680 --> 00:05:47.439
So here I am.
00:05:48.800 --> 00:05:56.480
And you've you've seen the women's game from a Brazilian perspective, which I think is so unique.
00:05:56.720 --> 00:06:04.079
Where have you seen the biggest progress and where does the biggest opportunity still really exist for young girls?
00:06:04.800 --> 00:06:16.319
I think today um what we can see is that we have more clubs investing, we are more um professionals, uh, more professionalism than we had before.
00:06:16.560 --> 00:06:26.319
And we have more um, how can I say we have more publicity and broadcast and everything for women's soccer, and this is helping a lot.
00:06:26.480 --> 00:06:31.839
Um, but I still think the the youth development is something that we need to get better.
00:06:32.000 --> 00:06:43.439
I mean, we have a lot of projects and social projects, um, but the clubs, not most of them have the youth teams, so they are starting now.
00:06:43.680 --> 00:06:51.759
So I think we are in this process of um building this next generation of players.
00:06:52.160 --> 00:06:52.720
For sure.
00:06:52.879 --> 00:06:58.959
And now, like you are at the heart and soul of that right now in E2 in Brazil.
00:06:59.360 --> 00:07:11.360
And as we talk about the Teal Rising Academy, from your perspective, for people, for girls who've never heard of this before, what do you want them saying about the Teal Rising Academy?
00:07:11.439 --> 00:07:14.000
And how do you want that perspective?
00:07:14.959 --> 00:07:20.480
So today, E2 Rising is the um is the is the is connected to KC.
00:07:20.639 --> 00:07:24.800
So it's the youth um team of KC, let's say something like that.
00:07:25.199 --> 00:07:30.639
We are developing players here, you 20, we're you 15 and you 17, right?
00:07:30.879 --> 00:07:38.720
So this is the first thing is nice to people know that we are connected to KC because it's different, it's very different.
00:07:39.199 --> 00:07:47.839
But um I hope people say that we have a place where we are developing more than players.
00:07:48.000 --> 00:08:11.759
We're we're helping to develop people too, and that we are um making these girls have the opportunity of um meeting different cultures and and having different opportunities and having dreams that they didn't have before, you know, just um thinking that they can play soccer not only in Brazil but whatever they want.
00:08:12.959 --> 00:08:22.879
So I think I want people to know that and you talk about opportunities all across the globe, whether it's you know here in Kansas City or there in Brazil.
00:08:23.199 --> 00:08:29.360
What do you think as this team expands, as this club expands?
00:08:29.600 --> 00:08:44.960
Um Casey Current could have started an academy anywhere in the world, and yet Brazil was the perfect place for this academy to evolve to become, obviously.
00:08:45.120 --> 00:08:47.919
Um why do you think Brazil was such a perfect place?
00:08:50.000 --> 00:08:53.519
We are passionate person, people, right?
00:08:53.759 --> 00:09:00.720
And we we talk about a soccer everywhere, every time, since we are born.
00:09:00.879 --> 00:09:06.159
Like we say sometimes that we are born with this um thing with soccer, you know?
00:09:06.320 --> 00:09:08.799
It's just I don't know how to explain that.
00:09:09.039 --> 00:09:14.639
So I think this is one thing that is amazing to have Casey here.
00:09:14.720 --> 00:09:24.320
Like they are meet they are trying to understand how we work, and sometimes we can't even explain because things are just we play everywhere.
00:09:24.559 --> 00:09:34.720
We play at streets, we play uh at the beach, we play um, I don't know, we just put two flip-flops and start playing in the middle of the street and things like that.
00:09:35.039 --> 00:09:39.759
So um people wanted to be part of soccer, you know.
00:09:40.399 --> 00:09:46.639
And uh I think we just need to give girls more opportunities.
00:09:46.960 --> 00:09:55.759
So I think it was the perfect place because we have a lot of players, we have a lot of girls trying and wanting to do that, and they just don't have the opportunity.
00:09:56.000 --> 00:09:57.200
So now we have.
00:09:57.279 --> 00:10:04.639
Now we you have this place where they can grow and and develop and hope they can achieve whatever they want.
00:10:04.960 --> 00:10:15.519
Yeah, and you talk about all those girls dreaming of those professional opportunities, but how does Teal Rising Academy set them up for success or help develop them in that way?
00:10:16.159 --> 00:10:24.240
I think our first mission is to make the players understand um where they can go, what they can achieve.
00:10:24.399 --> 00:10:26.720
I don't think they understand how big the club is.
00:10:26.799 --> 00:10:33.279
And it's uh it's something that we are um we are passing to them every day.
00:10:33.440 --> 00:10:37.440
Like, watch this game, watch this um this YouTube video.
00:10:37.759 --> 00:10:43.039
Um, do you understand that this player is is playing here, this player is a national team, this player.
00:10:43.360 --> 00:10:46.399
So uh it's the first thing that we are doing.
00:10:46.639 --> 00:10:52.720
We are teaching them how big Casey is and where they can go.
00:10:52.799 --> 00:10:55.519
So we just had the Casey tool here, right?
00:10:56.240 --> 00:10:59.360
And it was an amazing, like amazing week.
00:10:59.440 --> 00:11:02.480
Like the girls went crazy, it was very nice.
00:11:02.720 --> 00:11:10.240
Most of them didn't speak English, but they made a way of to communicate it, and it was amazing.
00:11:10.399 --> 00:11:11.120
It was amazing.
00:11:11.279 --> 00:11:23.919
So I think um we need to teach them first where they can go and and what they can achieve, and then after that, we can help them to go to these places.
00:11:24.240 --> 00:11:24.559
Yeah.
00:11:24.879 --> 00:11:37.840
Soccer is a universal language, and we here in Kansas City know very well that just having a place and a space and facilities can make a world of difference in your development and in how you play.
00:11:38.000 --> 00:11:44.879
I mean, it's amazing what it's done here in the US and now to have those conversations globally is just so powerful.
00:11:45.039 --> 00:11:55.840
And I think you bring up that the players were so excited about just having Casey Current, two players there and the Casey Current crest being down there and then being able to visually see it.
00:11:56.000 --> 00:12:06.879
But what are those conversations like when you talk to those girls and say Kansas City is this epicenter of girls' sports, and what does that mean to them?
00:12:08.320 --> 00:12:11.519
Um, I still don't think they understand a lot.
00:12:11.759 --> 00:12:15.039
I still think they think it's a far place.
00:12:15.360 --> 00:12:22.399
So it's a uh uh I think Casey being here was amazing because of that.
00:12:22.559 --> 00:12:29.919
It was uh more uh I don't know how you guys say, but it's something that they could yes, very good.
00:12:31.519 --> 00:12:35.600
Yeah, it was something um that they could achieve, they they can achieve.
00:12:35.679 --> 00:12:39.279
So we had some players playing with Casey and training with Casey.
00:12:39.759 --> 00:12:47.200
So after that week, they were like, Yeah, we are gonna start to studying English and I wanna be there, I wanna go there.
00:12:47.360 --> 00:12:51.360
Um, we are gonna watch all the games, we are gonna do this and do that.
00:12:51.600 --> 00:12:55.519
So they are trying to understand more after this interaction.
00:12:56.000 --> 00:13:00.240
And uh it's not just them, even the parents too.
00:13:00.480 --> 00:13:24.320
We we have this conversation with the parents, and they were so excited to have the second team here, and then they the message that I received after, like, our girl is so excited, she's going crazy about this and about that, and she just she wanna go to US now to to meet, I don't know, someone and to see something, and they they never even dreamed to go to US.
00:13:24.480 --> 00:13:27.200
So it's something real now, you know.
00:13:27.840 --> 00:13:44.559
So we are we are um breaking some barriers, um, starting with you can travel, you can meet people, different cultures and different countries, and then you can be there, you can play there.
00:13:44.799 --> 00:13:46.720
So it's little steps.
00:13:47.759 --> 00:14:02.720
And you talk about all their different reactions kind of in one, but do you have any stories that really stick out to you about players that you've interacted with, or um something that maybe stands out is that hey, this is exactly why we're doing this.
00:14:03.679 --> 00:14:12.960
So when we told the four players that they were going to train with the KC2, it was very nice.
00:14:13.120 --> 00:14:16.879
Like the different reactions, like, oh my god, what I'm gonna do.
00:14:16.960 --> 00:14:27.440
And then the other one that couldn't stop smiling, and after that week, they they sent a message like, Well, it was really different, I really want to do this, I hope I have this opportunity.
00:14:27.679 --> 00:14:41.759
And uh, I don't have like specific story, but um, I think it was just nice to see everyone so happy with them here and with this, and the parents, as I say, the message that we receive.
00:14:41.919 --> 00:14:58.320
And uh I always shared everything with the staff, and the staff was happy too because they had the opportunity to to work with the KC2, to uh watch the games and be at training, so everyone was just very excited.
00:14:58.799 --> 00:15:04.000
And you see this excitement, you feel this excitement, and we're just we're just getting started.
00:15:04.159 --> 00:15:14.480
Like the future, the growth, the generations to come that will be impacted by this is we're we're just scratching the surface.
00:15:14.799 --> 00:15:23.440
So, for you, what does success look like for the Teal Rising Academy, even though it's very early, um, you know, five, even ten years down the line?
00:15:24.480 --> 00:15:32.559
Seeing the girls five years from now, maybe um going pro doesn't matter where, uh, will be amazing, of course.
00:15:33.120 --> 00:15:45.039
But I think um maybe seeing them talking about tearizing like something that changed their lives will be the most successful thing for me.
00:15:45.440 --> 00:15:52.720
Like they I went there and I did this, and then this changed my life, and I had this dream, and they helped me.
00:15:52.960 --> 00:15:56.000
I think this will be amazing, really.
00:15:56.559 --> 00:16:06.799
And we talk about it on such a personal level and that impact, like it's impacted you, it's obviously impacted me, um, and now it gets to impact this next generation of athlete.
00:16:07.200 --> 00:16:11.840
And we here at The Current talk about being the best women's football club in the world every day.
00:16:11.919 --> 00:16:15.919
We walk into the office, and you guys do the same thing with the Teal Rising Academy.
00:16:16.080 --> 00:16:25.039
But how do you see that playing out um in Brazil in the same way or maybe in a very different way than we see it playing out here in Kansas City?
00:16:25.600 --> 00:16:30.720
For us to be the best team in the world, we need investment and we need to start soon.
00:16:30.960 --> 00:16:35.279
Like the guys are playing since they are, I don't know, five.
00:16:35.440 --> 00:16:37.840
I mean, why the girls can do the same.
00:16:38.000 --> 00:16:38.159
Yeah.
00:16:38.399 --> 00:16:42.240
So if you want the next generation to be very good, they need to start early.
00:16:42.480 --> 00:16:46.399
And I think to be the best team in the world, we need to do this.
00:16:46.720 --> 00:16:53.600
So starting with the 15s and 17s, um, we are investing in the next generation, right?
00:16:53.919 --> 00:17:00.639
We know that if we can we we need to change everything, we need to change the game and make everything better.
00:17:00.799 --> 00:17:02.720
Um, we need to start early.
00:17:03.039 --> 00:17:23.359
So I think um Casey was um it's in the right path to to this, to be the best team in the world, because um they understood that it's not just US, it's everywhere, everywhere.
00:17:23.680 --> 00:17:26.400
And women's soccer is growing everywhere.
00:17:27.279 --> 00:17:31.920
So I think um we are in the right in the right path.
00:17:32.720 --> 00:17:52.000
Yeah, and this pathway now, what excites you about the possibility of someone coming into the Teal Rising Academy, getting an opportunity, developing there, potentially moving to Kansas City, getting that chance there, or even moving on to the professional game.
00:17:52.160 --> 00:17:54.559
What excites you about that prospect?
00:17:55.519 --> 00:18:06.480
Uh I think um the one of the most things that I like about the youth is seeing how they um they grow so fast in everything.
00:18:06.640 --> 00:18:10.960
I mean, for 13 to 17, they change a lot.
00:18:11.200 --> 00:18:12.880
And they grow a lot.
00:18:13.279 --> 00:18:27.039
Um, and I think seeing this, like a girl is gonna come and then she's gonna enter here with 13 or 12, I don't know, and then she's gonna go pro, like all these years that she had here, like all this this pathway that she had.
00:18:27.200 --> 00:18:30.640
I mean, it's gonna be amazing to see that all the change that she had.
00:18:30.799 --> 00:18:32.960
So I think it's the thing that excites me the most.
00:18:33.039 --> 00:18:50.160
I know it's something that takes time, a lot of years, but I think it's very nice to see that she she went there, she she got um her she she made her dreams come true or whatever she she was thinking.
00:18:50.319 --> 00:18:52.799
So I think this is gonna be very nice.
00:18:53.200 --> 00:19:20.000
Yeah, and even to put that into perspective, that these young women have these opportunities now, and players like Marta, Dabinha, Lorena, um Bia didn't have those opportunities, and they still have become not only national successes here in the US, but also international successes and kind of models for um those young women in Brazil.
00:19:20.160 --> 00:19:35.200
So I think it'll be really cool to see not only how they inspire, but how we have been able to um create those opportunities and make it a little bit easier and more accessible for um young women in Brazil.
00:19:35.519 --> 00:19:38.720
Yeah, and you can see um Dudinha now.
00:19:38.799 --> 00:19:43.279
I mean, she's a young player and she's already like playing a lot.
00:19:43.440 --> 00:19:49.839
I know she got hurt now, but she's amazing and she's so young and she's already there.
00:19:50.079 --> 00:20:00.880
So I mean, it's amazing to see this next generation um being able to grow and be whatever in US, in Europe, or whatever.
00:20:01.200 --> 00:20:10.720
Yeah, and speaking of international stage, Brazil is gonna be at the center of women's football here when it hosts the 2027 FIFA Women's World Cup.
00:20:10.880 --> 00:20:15.359
What opportunity does that moment really create for young girls in Brazil?
00:20:15.519 --> 00:20:22.160
And how do you think Teal Rising Academy can help turn that inspiration into actual opportunity?
00:20:23.279 --> 00:20:27.519
Um, so we we're gonna have the best players in the world here.
00:20:27.759 --> 00:20:37.200
Like it's a big stage, and everyone is seeing, and it's always the time where um woman's soccer just grows a lot here.
00:20:37.279 --> 00:20:46.720
So we had the Olympics and things just went crazy after that, and we know that the World Cup is gonna do the same because it's even bigger now.
00:20:47.039 --> 00:20:49.519
Um, so this is gonna be amazing.
00:20:49.680 --> 00:21:12.960
And knowing that we have now um more more places to watch, like we have Case now, we have Global, we have other um other streamings, and more people are seeing, not just the girls, but um the athletes that are older, they're like going crazy with that because I mean they did a lot of things to this happen.
00:21:13.119 --> 00:21:16.720
So I talk a lot with some players and they are really excited for that.
00:21:17.039 --> 00:21:30.240
And uh we know that it's important to continue with that um wave, let's say like that, after the workup, not we can lose everything that we build.
00:21:30.799 --> 00:21:32.880
So it's important to see.
00:21:33.039 --> 00:21:40.720
Okay, so we have a lot of players, a lot of kids, we're gonna do with that, where they're gonna play, what can we offer?
00:21:40.960 --> 00:21:45.440
So, cheerising um is gonna give this opportunity, right?
00:21:45.519 --> 00:21:48.160
We have places that they can play.
00:21:48.319 --> 00:21:58.799
Um, we have partnership with the the city, what we can do here to help um things grow, um, to help these uh kids, these girls to play.
00:21:59.039 --> 00:22:08.480
So um Um yeah, I think we can do a lot of things here in YouTube and I don't know, maybe national, whatever we think is the best.
00:22:08.880 --> 00:22:15.920
Um, but I think we just we can't lose all these kids that just want to play soccer, you know?
00:22:16.240 --> 00:22:17.759
Yeah, capturing that.
00:22:18.000 --> 00:22:24.400
And it's amazing how accessibility from even just a media partnership standpoint just changes the game.
00:22:24.720 --> 00:22:27.759
Um, okay, so I'm taking you into the storm round.
00:22:27.839 --> 00:22:30.960
We've got a bunch of just quick hitter questions about you.
00:22:31.119 --> 00:22:32.640
You think you can handle this?
00:22:32.960 --> 00:22:34.079
Yeah, let's do this.
00:22:34.319 --> 00:22:35.279
Okay, game on.
00:22:35.440 --> 00:22:38.720
All right, favorite Brazilian footballer of all time.
00:22:39.519 --> 00:22:42.480
Uh I really like formiga.
00:22:42.880 --> 00:22:45.279
I love Marta, but I really like Farmiga.
00:22:45.599 --> 00:22:45.920
Yeah.
00:22:47.119 --> 00:22:50.960
Brazilian player that every American soccer fan should know.
00:22:51.279 --> 00:22:55.039
I think Carolyn is one of them, and Dudinha too.
00:22:55.200 --> 00:22:56.319
I really like them.
00:22:56.720 --> 00:23:01.359
They're just doing a lot for woman soccer and they're just growing so fast.
00:23:01.440 --> 00:23:02.160
It's amazing.
00:23:02.400 --> 00:23:04.559
It's amazing to see them play, right?
00:23:04.720 --> 00:23:05.119
Really.
00:23:05.440 --> 00:23:06.319
Yeah, yeah.
00:23:06.480 --> 00:23:09.440
Brazilian football is a blast.
00:23:09.680 --> 00:23:10.880
Um, okay.
00:23:11.200 --> 00:23:13.599
Best football city in Brazil.
00:23:15.279 --> 00:23:20.799
I'm going to say São Paulo because I think the championship here is very good.
00:23:20.960 --> 00:23:23.759
And we have a lot of big clubs here and a lot of good players.
00:23:23.839 --> 00:23:25.119
So I'm gonna say Sao Paulo.
00:23:25.200 --> 00:23:28.160
Some people may think it's not the best, but I'm gonna say so.
00:23:28.960 --> 00:23:32.319
Hey, this is your these are your answers and your personal opinions.
00:23:32.559 --> 00:23:33.759
So lean in, girl.
00:23:33.920 --> 00:23:34.799
Lean in.
00:23:35.200 --> 00:23:43.680
Um, we love our food here in Kansas City, we love our barbecue, but what is one Brazilian food that everyone in Kansas City must try?
00:23:44.640 --> 00:23:54.160
So we have um brigadeiro, that is a kind of dessert, it's chocolate, and we have pão de queijo, it's like cheese bread.
00:23:54.319 --> 00:23:59.279
They're the the two that everyone that comes to Brazil will say that everyone needs to try.
00:23:59.839 --> 00:24:06.079
But we love desserts here, so whatever dessert you wanted here, you need to go for it.
00:24:06.400 --> 00:24:06.720
Great.
00:24:06.799 --> 00:24:14.960
I will send you some barbecue, you can send me those desserts, and then we can um make true opinions on on what we think is the best.
00:24:15.119 --> 00:24:15.920
I love this.
00:24:16.079 --> 00:24:19.680
Uh, one word to describe Brazilian football as a whole.
00:24:20.480 --> 00:24:21.200
Passion.
00:24:22.480 --> 00:24:23.759
No better word than that.
00:24:24.000 --> 00:24:25.519
No better word than that.
00:24:26.240 --> 00:24:31.119
Uh, one quality every great young player needs that cannot be taught.
00:24:31.440 --> 00:24:42.559
I think determination, because you can teach a lot of things, like from soccer, but whatever she wants or not, it's not something that we can do for her.
00:24:42.720 --> 00:24:44.400
She needs to have it.
00:24:44.559 --> 00:24:47.440
Or so I think determination is the word.
00:24:48.319 --> 00:24:50.799
Spoken like a true development coach.
00:24:51.119 --> 00:24:52.000
I love that.
00:24:52.400 --> 00:24:56.880
I'm learning a lot about this, so yeah, clearly, but that's a great answer.
00:24:56.960 --> 00:24:58.000
It's a great answer.
00:24:58.240 --> 00:25:04.720
And finally, what do you hope a teal rising player says about the Teal Rising Academy 10 years from now?
00:25:05.680 --> 00:25:25.839
Um, I think that it's a good place to develop not just as a player, but as a people, a person too, and that teal rising can change lives and and make dreams um better and and bigger.
00:25:26.000 --> 00:25:28.319
Like you can dream bigger if you are here.
00:25:28.480 --> 00:25:33.440
So I hope people can say that from 10 years from now.
00:25:34.240 --> 00:25:36.319
Nothing is impossible, that's for sure.
00:25:36.559 --> 00:25:40.799
We uh are living it every single day and just changing the world, right?
00:25:41.279 --> 00:25:51.039
Yeah, I mean, I think Brazil never thought that could have uh uh a team that was only from for from women's.
00:25:51.359 --> 00:25:54.079
I mean, it's something very different here.
00:25:54.240 --> 00:25:57.680
We always have the main team and the woman's team.
00:25:57.839 --> 00:26:02.240
So just a woman's team, it's changing everything.
00:26:02.880 --> 00:26:03.599
I love it.
00:26:03.839 --> 00:26:04.799
We're having a blast.
00:26:04.960 --> 00:26:06.880
Julia, thank you so much for joining us.
00:26:07.039 --> 00:26:08.240
We really appreciate it.
00:26:08.480 --> 00:26:15.359
More importantly, thank you so much for the work that you are doing to really create opportunities for the next generation of players in Brazil.
00:26:15.519 --> 00:26:27.440
The distance from Brazil to Kansas City may be thousands of miles, but Teal Rising Academy is bringing those two football communities closer together and really building a pathway for the future of the women's game.
00:26:27.680 --> 00:26:29.440
So, so glad you were on here today.
00:26:29.519 --> 00:26:30.720
Thank you so much.
00:26:31.359 --> 00:26:33.279
Thank you so much so much for having me.
00:26:33.359 --> 00:26:40.960
And uh, it's being really amazing to be part of this and having the opportunity to build this here and to be part of Casey family.
00:26:41.039 --> 00:26:43.440
It's just very nice, very amazing.
00:26:43.680 --> 00:26:45.039
Yeah, it is beautiful.
00:26:45.279 --> 00:26:50.720
Well, and thank you, fans, for listening, and we will see you next time right here on the Casey Current Podcast.
00:26:50.880 --> 00:26:52.400
Be inspired, Casey.
00:00:00.479 --> 00:00:03.200
Hey everyone, welcome to the Casey Current Podcast.
00:00:03.279 --> 00:00:12.000
Today we are officially going international as we talk about one of the most exciting pieces of the growing Casey Current ecosystem, the Teal Rising Academy in Brazil.
00:00:12.080 --> 00:00:16.480
And joining us is someone who is super special and really bringing that vision to life.
00:00:16.719 --> 00:00:19.600
Julia Mani, but she only goes by Julia.
00:00:19.679 --> 00:00:21.600
So one word only from here on out.
00:00:21.679 --> 00:00:22.719
It is just Julia.
00:00:22.879 --> 00:00:24.879
Julia, welcome to the show.
00:00:25.039 --> 00:00:26.239
Thank you so much for joining us.
00:00:26.320 --> 00:00:27.839
How are things in Brazil?
00:00:28.399 --> 00:00:30.480
Hey guys, thank you so much for having me.
00:00:30.879 --> 00:00:32.799
It's really a pleasure to be here.
00:00:33.119 --> 00:00:34.560
A lot of things happening here.
00:00:34.719 --> 00:00:37.920
So a lot of games, a lot of things that we are building.
00:00:38.000 --> 00:00:41.600
So I'm very excited to be part of this and very excited of where we are going.
00:00:41.920 --> 00:00:49.920
Yeah, it is such a blessing and an honor to have these conversations with you and how much you are giving to Teal Rising Academy.
00:00:50.240 --> 00:01:05.920
I know we've had a lot of conversations over email, but now we officially get to have a Zoom conversation in person, and our fans get to know a little bit more about you and, you know, take that trip down to Brazil and really see what the behind the scenes are at the Teal Rising Academy.
00:01:06.000 --> 00:01:09.200
So we start these podcasts off with a very personal question.
00:01:09.359 --> 00:01:10.879
We call them current kicks.
00:01:11.120 --> 00:01:16.799
Before we dive into your story, how would you describe Julia in your own words?
00:01:17.120 --> 00:01:19.760
I think I need to say that I'm a very passionate person.
00:01:19.920 --> 00:01:22.319
So everything I do, I do a lot of passion.
00:01:22.400 --> 00:01:26.319
So these work for me is being uh really a dream come true.
00:01:26.480 --> 00:01:28.879
So I'm very excited to be part of this.
00:01:29.200 --> 00:01:32.879
Thank goodness, because there's a lot of work to do down there in Brazil.
00:01:33.040 --> 00:01:41.280
And there are a lot of um young women and girls who are impacted by the work you do and will be impacted for future generations.
00:01:41.680 --> 00:01:44.799
But let's let's start off with your beginnings.
00:01:44.879 --> 00:01:47.920
And before we talk about the Teal Rising Academy, take us back.
00:01:48.159 --> 00:01:52.879
What's your story and um how did football first become part of your life?
00:01:53.760 --> 00:02:00.400
Okay, so um here in Brazil, um, soccer is everywhere, you know.
00:02:00.640 --> 00:02:10.000
So since I was a kid, I used to go to my with my dad to the games, I used to watch him playing, um, I used to play it sometimes.
00:02:10.319 --> 00:02:20.080
So I really started working with soccer when I was like 19, that I was in a social project just for women.
00:02:20.400 --> 00:02:27.840
Um, I started just playing and then I volunteered to help and then I stayed there like almost for five years, kind of.
00:02:28.240 --> 00:02:38.800
And we went from a project that had 50 people to like, I don't know, today I think they have 800 people there, like since seven to adults.
00:02:39.280 --> 00:02:59.759
And uh I actually I am I graduated in architecture, I didn't get graduating anything related to soccer, but it was in my last year of college that I had the opportunity to do a tryout, and then I passed in a tryout, and then I talked to my parents, and they were like, Yeah, it's your dream, just go.
00:03:00.319 --> 00:03:05.919
And I played for a year, it wasn't I wasn't good, really, and that's fine.
00:03:06.159 --> 00:03:08.879
Really, it's okay, no judgment over here, okay?
00:03:09.280 --> 00:03:10.240
No problem with that.
00:03:10.400 --> 00:03:26.639
I think I just had a different um vision of life, of things that the other players had, and then there was this moment that I just realized that I wanted to be in soccer, I want to be part of that, but um in a different way.
00:03:26.879 --> 00:03:47.680
So that was when I finished college and then I graduated, I did a postgraduation, I don't know how you guys call it, but I did um administration and marketing in esports, and that when it started, I worked in Juventus, I worked for almost five years in Red Bull, Bragantino, and then now I'm here.
00:03:48.240 --> 00:03:53.680
Man, so I couldn't help but notice like there's a photo behind you.
00:03:53.840 --> 00:03:55.599
Um it looks like a huddle.
00:03:55.759 --> 00:03:57.360
Uh what is that?
00:03:58.319 --> 00:04:10.000
Um, it was the first team that we had in Red Bull from the um U20s, so it was the first game, and so it's a really important picture for me.
00:04:10.080 --> 00:04:11.599
So I I frame it.
00:04:11.919 --> 00:04:24.639
Was there a moment in your career or maybe in your life that you realized that you wanted to change the next generation of women in soccer or even just like girls in sports?
00:04:25.120 --> 00:04:29.839
Yeah, so um, when I was playing, there was this game against Corinthians.
00:04:30.000 --> 00:04:33.279
Um, as I say, I didn't play very much.
00:04:33.519 --> 00:04:38.879
I wasn't good, so I only entered in the last minutes and everything, and that's fine, really.
00:04:39.439 --> 00:04:43.040
Um I remember entering the field.
00:04:43.199 --> 00:04:58.240
Um, some players were injured, so we had a little more time to talk and see everything, and then I remember looking at the field and the landscape and everything, and I was like, whoa, it's a beautiful day.
00:04:58.399 --> 00:05:08.240
And then I looked at the stand, and there were some some fans there and some kids, and I was like, it was me a year ago, and now I'm here at the field.
00:05:08.560 --> 00:05:13.360
So why can other kids or other people be here?
00:05:13.519 --> 00:05:26.319
You know, I was um very connected to the project at the time, and I I was working with the U 3013 and U11, um, under 11 and under 13.
00:05:26.639 --> 00:05:37.519
So I was seeing that the girls wanted to become professionals, and we didn't had a lot of extra tour in the place we played in the club that we had.
00:05:38.000 --> 00:05:41.199
And that moment it's just it kicked me very hard.
00:05:41.279 --> 00:05:45.360
Like it was that moment for me that changed everything.
00:05:45.680 --> 00:05:47.439
So here I am.
00:05:48.800 --> 00:05:56.480
And you've you've seen the women's game from a Brazilian perspective, which I think is so unique.
00:05:56.720 --> 00:06:04.079
Where have you seen the biggest progress and where does the biggest opportunity still really exist for young girls?
00:06:04.800 --> 00:06:16.319
I think today um what we can see is that we have more clubs investing, we are more um professionals, uh, more professionalism than we had before.
00:06:16.560 --> 00:06:26.319
And we have more um, how can I say we have more publicity and broadcast and everything for women's soccer, and this is helping a lot.
00:06:26.480 --> 00:06:31.839
Um, but I still think the the youth development is something that we need to get better.
00:06:32.000 --> 00:06:43.439
I mean, we have a lot of projects and social projects, um, but the clubs, not most of them have the youth teams, so they are starting now.
00:06:43.680 --> 00:06:51.759
So I think we are in this process of um building this next generation of players.
00:06:52.160 --> 00:06:52.720
For sure.
00:06:52.879 --> 00:06:58.959
And now, like you are at the heart and soul of that right now in E2 in Brazil.
00:06:59.360 --> 00:07:11.360
And as we talk about the Teal Rising Academy, from your perspective, for people, for girls who've never heard of this before, what do you want them saying about the Teal Rising Academy?
00:07:11.439 --> 00:07:14.000
And how do you want that perspective?
00:07:14.959 --> 00:07:20.480
So today, E2 Rising is the um is the is the is connected to KC.
00:07:20.639 --> 00:07:24.800
So it's the youth um team of KC, let's say something like that.
00:07:25.199 --> 00:07:30.639
We are developing players here, you 20, we're you 15 and you 17, right?
00:07:30.879 --> 00:07:38.720
So this is the first thing is nice to people know that we are connected to KC because it's different, it's very different.
00:07:39.199 --> 00:07:47.839
But um I hope people say that we have a place where we are developing more than players.
00:07:48.000 --> 00:08:11.759
We're we're helping to develop people too, and that we are um making these girls have the opportunity of um meeting different cultures and and having different opportunities and having dreams that they didn't have before, you know, just um thinking that they can play soccer not only in Brazil but whatever they want.
00:08:12.959 --> 00:08:22.879
So I think I want people to know that and you talk about opportunities all across the globe, whether it's you know here in Kansas City or there in Brazil.
00:08:23.199 --> 00:08:29.360
What do you think as this team expands, as this club expands?
00:08:29.600 --> 00:08:44.960
Um Casey Current could have started an academy anywhere in the world, and yet Brazil was the perfect place for this academy to evolve to become, obviously.
00:08:45.120 --> 00:08:47.919
Um why do you think Brazil was such a perfect place?
00:08:50.000 --> 00:08:53.519
We are passionate person, people, right?
00:08:53.759 --> 00:09:00.720
And we we talk about a soccer everywhere, every time, since we are born.
00:09:00.879 --> 00:09:06.159
Like we say sometimes that we are born with this um thing with soccer, you know?
00:09:06.320 --> 00:09:08.799
It's just I don't know how to explain that.
00:09:09.039 --> 00:09:14.639
So I think this is one thing that is amazing to have Casey here.
00:09:14.720 --> 00:09:24.320
Like they are meet they are trying to understand how we work, and sometimes we can't even explain because things are just we play everywhere.
00:09:24.559 --> 00:09:34.720
We play at streets, we play uh at the beach, we play um, I don't know, we just put two flip-flops and start playing in the middle of the street and things like that.
00:09:35.039 --> 00:09:39.759
So um people wanted to be part of soccer, you know.
00:09:40.399 --> 00:09:46.639
And uh I think we just need to give girls more opportunities.
00:09:46.960 --> 00:09:55.759
So I think it was the perfect place because we have a lot of players, we have a lot of girls trying and wanting to do that, and they just don't have the opportunity.
00:09:56.000 --> 00:09:57.200
So now we have.
00:09:57.279 --> 00:10:04.639
Now we you have this place where they can grow and and develop and hope they can achieve whatever they want.
00:10:04.960 --> 00:10:15.519
Yeah, and you talk about all those girls dreaming of those professional opportunities, but how does Teal Rising Academy set them up for success or help develop them in that way?
00:10:16.159 --> 00:10:24.240
I think our first mission is to make the players understand um where they can go, what they can achieve.
00:10:24.399 --> 00:10:26.720
I don't think they understand how big the club is.
00:10:26.799 --> 00:10:33.279
And it's uh it's something that we are um we are passing to them every day.
00:10:33.440 --> 00:10:37.440
Like, watch this game, watch this um this YouTube video.
00:10:37.759 --> 00:10:43.039
Um, do you understand that this player is is playing here, this player is a national team, this player.
00:10:43.360 --> 00:10:46.399
So uh it's the first thing that we are doing.
00:10:46.639 --> 00:10:52.720
We are teaching them how big Casey is and where they can go.
00:10:52.799 --> 00:10:55.519
So we just had the Casey tool here, right?
00:10:56.240 --> 00:10:59.360
And it was an amazing, like amazing week.
00:10:59.440 --> 00:11:02.480
Like the girls went crazy, it was very nice.
00:11:02.720 --> 00:11:10.240
Most of them didn't speak English, but they made a way of to communicate it, and it was amazing.
00:11:10.399 --> 00:11:11.120
It was amazing.
00:11:11.279 --> 00:11:23.919
So I think um we need to teach them first where they can go and and what they can achieve, and then after that, we can help them to go to these places.
00:11:24.240 --> 00:11:24.559
Yeah.
00:11:24.879 --> 00:11:37.840
Soccer is a universal language, and we here in Kansas City know very well that just having a place and a space and facilities can make a world of difference in your development and in how you play.
00:11:38.000 --> 00:11:44.879
I mean, it's amazing what it's done here in the US and now to have those conversations globally is just so powerful.
00:11:45.039 --> 00:11:55.840
And I think you bring up that the players were so excited about just having Casey Current, two players there and the Casey Current crest being down there and then being able to visually see it.
00:11:56.000 --> 00:12:06.879
But what are those conversations like when you talk to those girls and say Kansas City is this epicenter of girls' sports, and what does that mean to them?
00:12:08.320 --> 00:12:11.519
Um, I still don't think they understand a lot.
00:12:11.759 --> 00:12:15.039
I still think they think it's a far place.
00:12:15.360 --> 00:12:22.399
So it's a uh uh I think Casey being here was amazing because of that.
00:12:22.559 --> 00:12:29.919
It was uh more uh I don't know how you guys say, but it's something that they could yes, very good.
00:12:31.519 --> 00:12:35.600
Yeah, it was something um that they could achieve, they they can achieve.
00:12:35.679 --> 00:12:39.279
So we had some players playing with Casey and training with Casey.
00:12:39.759 --> 00:12:47.200
So after that week, they were like, Yeah, we are gonna start to studying English and I wanna be there, I wanna go there.
00:12:47.360 --> 00:12:51.360
Um, we are gonna watch all the games, we are gonna do this and do that.
00:12:51.600 --> 00:12:55.519
So they are trying to understand more after this interaction.
00:12:56.000 --> 00:13:00.240
And uh it's not just them, even the parents too.
00:13:00.480 --> 00:13:24.320
We we have this conversation with the parents, and they were so excited to have the second team here, and then they the message that I received after, like, our girl is so excited, she's going crazy about this and about that, and she just she wanna go to US now to to meet, I don't know, someone and to see something, and they they never even dreamed to go to US.
00:13:24.480 --> 00:13:27.200
So it's something real now, you know.
00:13:27.840 --> 00:13:44.559
So we are we are um breaking some barriers, um, starting with you can travel, you can meet people, different cultures and different countries, and then you can be there, you can play there.
00:13:44.799 --> 00:13:46.720
So it's little steps.
00:13:47.759 --> 00:14:02.720
And you talk about all their different reactions kind of in one, but do you have any stories that really stick out to you about players that you've interacted with, or um something that maybe stands out is that hey, this is exactly why we're doing this.
00:14:03.679 --> 00:14:12.960
So when we told the four players that they were going to train with the KC2, it was very nice.
00:14:13.120 --> 00:14:16.879
Like the different reactions, like, oh my god, what I'm gonna do.
00:14:16.960 --> 00:14:27.440
And then the other one that couldn't stop smiling, and after that week, they they sent a message like, Well, it was really different, I really want to do this, I hope I have this opportunity.
00:14:27.679 --> 00:14:41.759
And uh, I don't have like specific story, but um, I think it was just nice to see everyone so happy with them here and with this, and the parents, as I say, the message that we receive.
00:14:41.919 --> 00:14:58.320
And uh I always shared everything with the staff, and the staff was happy too because they had the opportunity to to work with the KC2, to uh watch the games and be at training, so everyone was just very excited.
00:14:58.799 --> 00:15:04.000
And you see this excitement, you feel this excitement, and we're just we're just getting started.
00:15:04.159 --> 00:15:14.480
Like the future, the growth, the generations to come that will be impacted by this is we're we're just scratching the surface.
00:15:14.799 --> 00:15:23.440
So, for you, what does success look like for the Teal Rising Academy, even though it's very early, um, you know, five, even ten years down the line?
00:15:24.480 --> 00:15:32.559
Seeing the girls five years from now, maybe um going pro doesn't matter where, uh, will be amazing, of course.
00:15:33.120 --> 00:15:45.039
But I think um maybe seeing them talking about tearizing like something that changed their lives will be the most successful thing for me.
00:15:45.440 --> 00:15:52.720
Like they I went there and I did this, and then this changed my life, and I had this dream, and they helped me.
00:15:52.960 --> 00:15:56.000
I think this will be amazing, really.
00:15:56.559 --> 00:16:06.799
And we talk about it on such a personal level and that impact, like it's impacted you, it's obviously impacted me, um, and now it gets to impact this next generation of athlete.
00:16:07.200 --> 00:16:11.840
And we here at The Current talk about being the best women's football club in the world every day.
00:16:11.919 --> 00:16:15.919
We walk into the office, and you guys do the same thing with the Teal Rising Academy.
00:16:16.080 --> 00:16:25.039
But how do you see that playing out um in Brazil in the same way or maybe in a very different way than we see it playing out here in Kansas City?
00:16:25.600 --> 00:16:30.720
For us to be the best team in the world, we need investment and we need to start soon.
00:16:30.960 --> 00:16:35.279
Like the guys are playing since they are, I don't know, five.
00:16:35.440 --> 00:16:37.840
I mean, why the girls can do the same.
00:16:38.000 --> 00:16:38.159
Yeah.
00:16:38.399 --> 00:16:42.240
So if you want the next generation to be very good, they need to start early.
00:16:42.480 --> 00:16:46.399
And I think to be the best team in the world, we need to do this.
00:16:46.720 --> 00:16:53.600
So starting with the 15s and 17s, um, we are investing in the next generation, right?
00:16:53.919 --> 00:17:00.639
We know that if we can we we need to change everything, we need to change the game and make everything better.
00:17:00.799 --> 00:17:02.720
Um, we need to start early.
00:17:03.039 --> 00:17:23.359
So I think um Casey was um it's in the right path to to this, to be the best team in the world, because um they understood that it's not just US, it's everywhere, everywhere.
00:17:23.680 --> 00:17:26.400
And women's soccer is growing everywhere.
00:17:27.279 --> 00:17:31.920
So I think um we are in the right in the right path.
00:17:32.720 --> 00:17:52.000
Yeah, and this pathway now, what excites you about the possibility of someone coming into the Teal Rising Academy, getting an opportunity, developing there, potentially moving to Kansas City, getting that chance there, or even moving on to the professional game.
00:17:52.160 --> 00:17:54.559
What excites you about that prospect?
00:17:55.519 --> 00:18:06.480
Uh I think um the one of the most things that I like about the youth is seeing how they um they grow so fast in everything.
00:18:06.640 --> 00:18:10.960
I mean, for 13 to 17, they change a lot.
00:18:11.200 --> 00:18:12.880
And they grow a lot.
00:18:13.279 --> 00:18:27.039
Um, and I think seeing this, like a girl is gonna come and then she's gonna enter here with 13 or 12, I don't know, and then she's gonna go pro, like all these years that she had here, like all this this pathway that she had.
00:18:27.200 --> 00:18:30.640
I mean, it's gonna be amazing to see that all the change that she had.
00:18:30.799 --> 00:18:32.960
So I think it's the thing that excites me the most.
00:18:33.039 --> 00:18:50.160
I know it's something that takes time, a lot of years, but I think it's very nice to see that she she went there, she she got um her she she made her dreams come true or whatever she she was thinking.
00:18:50.319 --> 00:18:52.799
So I think this is gonna be very nice.
00:18:53.200 --> 00:19:20.000
Yeah, and even to put that into perspective, that these young women have these opportunities now, and players like Marta, Dabinha, Lorena, um Bia didn't have those opportunities, and they still have become not only national successes here in the US, but also international successes and kind of models for um those young women in Brazil.
00:19:20.160 --> 00:19:35.200
So I think it'll be really cool to see not only how they inspire, but how we have been able to um create those opportunities and make it a little bit easier and more accessible for um young women in Brazil.
00:19:35.519 --> 00:19:38.720
Yeah, and you can see um Dudinha now.
00:19:38.799 --> 00:19:43.279
I mean, she's a young player and she's already like playing a lot.
00:19:43.440 --> 00:19:49.839
I know she got hurt now, but she's amazing and she's so young and she's already there.
00:19:50.079 --> 00:20:00.880
So I mean, it's amazing to see this next generation um being able to grow and be whatever in US, in Europe, or whatever.
00:20:01.200 --> 00:20:10.720
Yeah, and speaking of international stage, Brazil is gonna be at the center of women's football here when it hosts the 2027 FIFA Women's World Cup.
00:20:10.880 --> 00:20:15.359
What opportunity does that moment really create for young girls in Brazil?
00:20:15.519 --> 00:20:22.160
And how do you think Teal Rising Academy can help turn that inspiration into actual opportunity?
00:20:23.279 --> 00:20:27.519
Um, so we we're gonna have the best players in the world here.
00:20:27.759 --> 00:20:37.200
Like it's a big stage, and everyone is seeing, and it's always the time where um woman's soccer just grows a lot here.
00:20:37.279 --> 00:20:46.720
So we had the Olympics and things just went crazy after that, and we know that the World Cup is gonna do the same because it's even bigger now.
00:20:47.039 --> 00:20:49.519
Um, so this is gonna be amazing.
00:20:49.680 --> 00:21:12.960
And knowing that we have now um more more places to watch, like we have Case now, we have Global, we have other um other streamings, and more people are seeing, not just the girls, but um the athletes that are older, they're like going crazy with that because I mean they did a lot of things to this happen.
00:21:13.119 --> 00:21:16.720
So I talk a lot with some players and they are really excited for that.
00:21:17.039 --> 00:21:30.240
And uh we know that it's important to continue with that um wave, let's say like that, after the workup, not we can lose everything that we build.
00:21:30.799 --> 00:21:32.880
So it's important to see.
00:21:33.039 --> 00:21:40.720
Okay, so we have a lot of players, a lot of kids, we're gonna do with that, where they're gonna play, what can we offer?
00:21:40.960 --> 00:21:45.440
So, cheerising um is gonna give this opportunity, right?
00:21:45.519 --> 00:21:48.160
We have places that they can play.
00:21:48.319 --> 00:21:58.799
Um, we have partnership with the the city, what we can do here to help um things grow, um, to help these uh kids, these girls to play.
00:21:59.039 --> 00:22:08.480
So um Um yeah, I think we can do a lot of things here in YouTube and I don't know, maybe national, whatever we think is the best.
00:22:08.880 --> 00:22:15.920
Um, but I think we just we can't lose all these kids that just want to play soccer, you know?
00:22:16.240 --> 00:22:17.759
Yeah, capturing that.
00:22:18.000 --> 00:22:24.400
And it's amazing how accessibility from even just a media partnership standpoint just changes the game.
00:22:24.720 --> 00:22:27.759
Um, okay, so I'm taking you into the storm round.
00:22:27.839 --> 00:22:30.960
We've got a bunch of just quick hitter questions about you.
00:22:31.119 --> 00:22:32.640
You think you can handle this?
00:22:32.960 --> 00:22:34.079
Yeah, let's do this.
00:22:34.319 --> 00:22:35.279
Okay, game on.
00:22:35.440 --> 00:22:38.720
All right, favorite Brazilian footballer of all time.
00:22:39.519 --> 00:22:42.480
Uh I really like formiga.
00:22:42.880 --> 00:22:45.279
I love Marta, but I really like Farmiga.
00:22:45.599 --> 00:22:45.920
Yeah.
00:22:47.119 --> 00:22:50.960
Brazilian player that every American soccer fan should know.
00:22:51.279 --> 00:22:55.039
I think Carolyn is one of them, and Dudinha too.
00:22:55.200 --> 00:22:56.319
I really like them.
00:22:56.720 --> 00:23:01.359
They're just doing a lot for woman soccer and they're just growing so fast.
00:23:01.440 --> 00:23:02.160
It's amazing.
00:23:02.400 --> 00:23:04.559
It's amazing to see them play, right?
00:23:04.720 --> 00:23:05.119
Really.
00:23:05.440 --> 00:23:06.319
Yeah, yeah.
00:23:06.480 --> 00:23:09.440
Brazilian football is a blast.
00:23:09.680 --> 00:23:10.880
Um, okay.
00:23:11.200 --> 00:23:13.599
Best football city in Brazil.
00:23:15.279 --> 00:23:20.799
I'm going to say São Paulo because I think the championship here is very good.
00:23:20.960 --> 00:23:23.759
And we have a lot of big clubs here and a lot of good players.
00:23:23.839 --> 00:23:25.119
So I'm gonna say Sao Paulo.
00:23:25.200 --> 00:23:28.160
Some people may think it's not the best, but I'm gonna say so.
00:23:28.960 --> 00:23:32.319
Hey, this is your these are your answers and your personal opinions.
00:23:32.559 --> 00:23:33.759
So lean in, girl.
00:23:33.920 --> 00:23:34.799
Lean in.
00:23:35.200 --> 00:23:43.680
Um, we love our food here in Kansas City, we love our barbecue, but what is one Brazilian food that everyone in Kansas City must try?
00:23:44.640 --> 00:23:54.160
So we have um brigadeiro, that is a kind of dessert, it's chocolate, and we have pão de queijo, it's like cheese bread.
00:23:54.319 --> 00:23:59.279
They're the the two that everyone that comes to Brazil will say that everyone needs to try.
00:23:59.839 --> 00:24:06.079
But we love desserts here, so whatever dessert you wanted here, you need to go for it.
00:24:06.400 --> 00:24:06.720
Great.
00:24:06.799 --> 00:24:14.960
I will send you some barbecue, you can send me those desserts, and then we can um make true opinions on on what we think is the best.
00:24:15.119 --> 00:24:15.920
I love this.
00:24:16.079 --> 00:24:19.680
Uh, one word to describe Brazilian football as a whole.
00:24:20.480 --> 00:24:21.200
Passion.
00:24:22.480 --> 00:24:23.759
No better word than that.
00:24:24.000 --> 00:24:25.519
No better word than that.
00:24:26.240 --> 00:24:31.119
Uh, one quality every great young player needs that cannot be taught.
00:24:31.440 --> 00:24:42.559
I think determination, because you can teach a lot of things, like from soccer, but whatever she wants or not, it's not something that we can do for her.
00:24:42.720 --> 00:24:44.400
She needs to have it.
00:24:44.559 --> 00:24:47.440
Or so I think determination is the word.
00:24:48.319 --> 00:24:50.799
Spoken like a true development coach.
00:24:51.119 --> 00:24:52.000
I love that.
00:24:52.400 --> 00:24:56.880
I'm learning a lot about this, so yeah, clearly, but that's a great answer.
00:24:56.960 --> 00:24:58.000
It's a great answer.
00:24:58.240 --> 00:25:04.720
And finally, what do you hope a teal rising player says about the Teal Rising Academy 10 years from now?
00:25:05.680 --> 00:25:25.839
Um, I think that it's a good place to develop not just as a player, but as a people, a person too, and that teal rising can change lives and and make dreams um better and and bigger.
00:25:26.000 --> 00:25:28.319
Like you can dream bigger if you are here.
00:25:28.480 --> 00:25:33.440
So I hope people can say that from 10 years from now.
00:25:34.240 --> 00:25:36.319
Nothing is impossible, that's for sure.
00:25:36.559 --> 00:25:40.799
We uh are living it every single day and just changing the world, right?
00:25:41.279 --> 00:25:51.039
Yeah, I mean, I think Brazil never thought that could have uh uh a team that was only from for from women's.
00:25:51.359 --> 00:25:54.079
I mean, it's something very different here.
00:25:54.240 --> 00:25:57.680
We always have the main team and the woman's team.
00:25:57.839 --> 00:26:02.240
So just a woman's team, it's changing everything.
00:26:02.880 --> 00:26:03.599
I love it.
00:26:03.839 --> 00:26:04.799
We're having a blast.
00:26:04.960 --> 00:26:06.880
Julia, thank you so much for joining us.
00:26:07.039 --> 00:26:08.240
We really appreciate it.
00:26:08.480 --> 00:26:15.359
More importantly, thank you so much for the work that you are doing to really create opportunities for the next generation of players in Brazil.
00:26:15.519 --> 00:26:27.440
The distance from Brazil to Kansas City may be thousands of miles, but Teal Rising Academy is bringing those two football communities closer together and really building a pathway for the future of the women's game.
00:26:27.680 --> 00:26:29.440
So, so glad you were on here today.
00:26:29.519 --> 00:26:30.720
Thank you so much.
00:26:31.359 --> 00:26:33.279
Thank you so much so much for having me.
00:26:33.359 --> 00:26:40.960
And uh, it's being really amazing to be part of this and having the opportunity to build this here and to be part of Casey family.
00:26:41.039 --> 00:26:43.440
It's just very nice, very amazing.
00:26:43.680 --> 00:26:45.039
Yeah, it is beautiful.
00:26:45.279 --> 00:26:50.720
Well, and thank you, fans, for listening, and we will see you next time right here on the Casey Current Podcast.
00:26:50.880 --> 00:26:52.400
Be inspired, Casey.
