Both sides in the Matthew Farwell federal trial want the same witness: the Massachusetts medical examiner who ruled Sandra Birchmore's death a suicide in 2021, then withdrew it in April 2026. Prosecutors say she'll testify to a fractured hyoid bone and bleeding in a neck muscle, injuries more common in homicides, and explain why she wrote suicide anyway. Still, a second-opinion pathologist from the Defense Department agreed with her first call.
Farwell, a former Stoughton detective, has pleaded not guilty to killing a witness and causing the death of her unborn son. He says Sandra took her own life after he broke it off.
Tony puts the two cases side by side: the video, the strap, the DNA, the January 20 call to Stoughton police, and the digital expert the government has twice tried to keep out because it couldn't test his claims against the phone. Then the government's own filing on why the first ruling was suicide.
