Episode 239: Michael Jayne Filmmaker, Big Damn Films

This was an interview episode of Drumming Up Conversation podcast where Michael Jayne from Big Damn Films discussed working with Logan Liskovec on their horror comedy film "Arbor Day: The Root of Evil." Michael shared how the film originated from his recovery after suffering a stroke, explaining the anthology format where five different directors each created 10-minute segments about a killer known as The Arborist. He detailed the film's practical effects approach, charitable component where trees are planted with every screening, and the roadshow tour currently happening across multiple cities including New Jersey, Maryland, and upcoming stops in Orlando and Flagstaff. The conversation covered Michael's filmmaking journey starting with a Firefly fan film, his inspirations from directors like Robert Rodriguez and Kevin Smith, and his company's evolution from a non-profit to for-profit entity. They also discussed horror movie recommendations across different decades and shared personal experiences with scary films, concluding with plans to meet in person at Flagstaff CreepyCon where Michael will be promoting the film.
