MENGENAI EPISOD INI
Knowing the pattern isn't enough:
“They can talk about what they do better than anybody,”
“But they haven't stopped doing it.”
“You actually have space to decide.”
What happens when you finally see the rule underneath...

From Fear To Freedom
David Heaps built a successful career while carrying a fear of losing everything. At 35, after becoming CEO of a midsize company, he hit a crisis and “hit the eject button.” His next chapter took him from corporate leadership into work with CEOs, and eventually toward years of studying human behavior in the Amazon. Along the way, he discovered why insight alone often fails to change behavior.
See The Rule
David calls the hidden patterns underneath our behavior “operating rules.” They can begin with early experiences, shape protective strategies, and quietly follow us into work, relationships, and leadership. The shift happens when you can recognize the pattern while it is happening, instead of only explaining it afterward.
Inside This Episode
- Why understanding your pattern can still leave you repeating it
- How a childhood conclusion can become an adult ceiling
- Why capable leaders avoid conversations they know they need
- How hidden protection can affect an entire company
- What changes when you create space between impulse and choice
Go Deeper — Premium Action Plan
This week, catch one moment that disturbs your inner peace. Sit somewhere quiet and replay the event. Notice what happens in your body, then ask: “What does this remind me of when I was a little kid?” David explains how that interruption can reveal the conclusion underneath the reaction. From there, you can begin mapping the rule instead of simply fighting the behavior.

Moments To Revisit
- The crisis at 35 that made David “hit the eject button.”
- The fear that grew even as his career and income grew.
- The childhood experience that taught him how an operating rule forms.
- The moment he describes feeling “space” before a reaction takes over.
- Why David says your career reflects your relationship with yourself.
Final Thought
David’s most useful distinction is simple: knowing yourself is not the same as changing yourself. The deeper work is noticing the rule before it runs the decision. That creates a small but powerful space where another choice becomes possible. For anyone at a career crossroads, that space may be where the next version of your life begins.
