MENGENAI EPISOD INI
Two different marriages. The same man. And a trail of “that’s weird” moments that only made sense once Deana and Lizzie finally compared timelines.
In this episode of Beyond the Statistics, Ingrid sits down with Deana and Lizzie, co-hosts of Surviving Toxic Relationships, to share the remarkable story of how they discovered they had each married the same man at different points in their lives—and began recognizing strikingly similar patterns of emotional abuse, manipulation, deception, and control.
They take us inside the warning signs that are often easy to dismiss while you’re living them: locked accounts, disappearing access, financial control, gaslighting, isolation, love bombing, polished public charm, and a double life hidden behind spiritual retreats.
Deana and Lizzie also confront a difficult question many survivors face after leaving: Do you warn the next partner when you know you may be dismissed as the “crazy ex”?
Together, we explore:
- Emotional abuse red flags that may not look dramatic from the outside
- Gaslighting and the gradual loss of trust in your own perception
- Love bombing and why charm can be mistaken for character
- Financial abuse and controlling access to money and accounts
- Trauma bonding and cognitive dissonance in abusive relationships
- Why couples therapy may become another opportunity for manipulation in an abusive relationship
- Why leaving can require careful safety planning
- Rebuilding identity and learning to trust your instincts again
- The complicated grief that can follow a toxic or abusive relationship
This conversation is also a reminder of why survivor stories matter. Patterns that seem isolated can look very different when people begin comparing experiences.
If you’ve found yourself thinking, “Something feels wrong, but I can’t explain why,” this episode may help give language to what you’re experiencing.

00:00:27.929 --> 00:00:28.969
Hi, Warriors.
00:00:29.129 --> 00:00:31.449
Welcome to Beyond the Statistics.
00:00:31.609 --> 00:00:34.329
Formerly one in three, I'm your host, Ingrid.
00:00:34.890 --> 00:00:43.049
Today I have the pleasure of speaking with Dina and Lizzie, two women whose stories sound like they're straight out of a movie.
00:00:43.289 --> 00:00:48.730
At different points in their lives, they were each married to the same narcissistic abuser.
00:00:48.890 --> 00:01:01.049
Through their healing journeys, they have joined forces to create the Surviving Toxic Relationships podcast, where they help others recognize and recover from toxic relationships.
00:01:01.290 --> 00:01:04.730
Today they're here to share their story with us.
00:01:05.049 --> 00:01:08.650
Trust me, this is one you don't want to miss.
00:01:09.209 --> 00:01:10.010
Hi, Dina.
00:01:10.090 --> 00:01:10.890
Hi, Lizzie.
00:01:10.969 --> 00:01:11.689
Welcome to the show.
00:01:11.849 --> 00:01:13.530
Thank you so much for joining me.
00:01:13.849 --> 00:01:15.209
Thank you for having us.
00:01:15.450 --> 00:01:17.129
We're so happy to be here, Ingrid.
00:01:17.290 --> 00:01:17.689
Thank you.
00:01:17.929 --> 00:01:20.810
I am really excited to have a conversation with you guys.
00:01:20.969 --> 00:01:27.929
Before we get into just our our chat, do you mind just sharing a little bit about yourself so that listeners can get to know you?
00:01:28.329 --> 00:01:29.129
Yeah, absolutely.
00:01:29.290 --> 00:01:35.769
So I'm Dina, and um, the person that we'll be we'll be talking about, which is our ex, I was married to for 27 years.
00:01:36.010 --> 00:01:50.650
I had four children with him, um, left the marriage, and now I have a wonderful husband, amazing, for let's see, we've been together for 13 years, and four more kids from his side, and then we have 13 grandchildren.
00:01:50.810 --> 00:01:52.250
You're like the Brady Bunch then.
00:01:52.570 --> 00:01:53.049
100%.
00:01:54.810 --> 00:01:56.730
Times more.
00:01:57.370 --> 00:01:57.689
Right.
00:01:57.850 --> 00:01:58.570
A lot more.
00:01:58.730 --> 00:01:59.130
Yeah.
00:01:59.850 --> 00:02:00.490
Yeah.
00:02:01.210 --> 00:02:02.890
And yeah, I'm Lizzie.
00:02:03.130 --> 00:02:05.210
I have been a school teacher.
00:02:05.450 --> 00:02:07.130
I am still single.
00:02:07.609 --> 00:02:10.810
And I have four kids as well, and a grandson.
00:02:11.210 --> 00:02:13.769
And yeah, we're excited to be here.
00:02:14.329 --> 00:02:14.650
Okay.
00:02:15.129 --> 00:02:18.889
So Dina mentioned a mutual husband.
00:02:19.049 --> 00:02:23.049
I know that is something that I definitely have not had on the podcast before.
00:02:23.689 --> 00:02:29.210
And when you said a short some summary about yourself, we're like, okay, that's not a short summary.
00:02:29.370 --> 00:02:33.609
So we we probably were like, do you want to know that now?
00:02:34.169 --> 00:02:42.009
Yeah, I was married to our shared ex six years for six years after Dina had divorced them.
00:02:42.169 --> 00:02:45.449
But I didn't know they were divorced within days of our marriage.
00:02:45.769 --> 00:02:48.409
He told me two years that he had been single.
00:02:48.569 --> 00:02:49.689
So days.
00:02:49.929 --> 00:02:51.129
Yeah, days.
00:02:51.289 --> 00:03:07.769
And then we were married for six years, moved around, and then yeah, that's where our story started was at the end of my marriage with our shared ex, and uh lots of red flags, lots of stuff was happening.
00:03:07.929 --> 00:03:09.609
Our marriage was getting really weird.
00:03:09.769 --> 00:03:16.169
I was locked out of a bunch of stuff, like our Verizon account and Marriott account and all other types of stuff.
00:03:16.409 --> 00:03:25.049
And then he was saying that he was off praying and having counseling with other people, and and I was like, this is not acceptable.
00:03:25.129 --> 00:03:26.569
He wouldn't let me meet anybody.
00:03:26.810 --> 00:03:30.089
So I left because I'd already been married once.
00:03:30.169 --> 00:03:36.009
So when I was sensing something wasn't right, my sister came to town and she helped me move out.
00:03:36.169 --> 00:03:45.769
And then in the process, I found out, and really I didn't find out ultimately until when I realized I was going to divorce him because I realized there was some cheating going on.
00:03:46.329 --> 00:03:51.049
But in between that time, that's when Dina and I connected because of our oldest son.
00:03:51.530 --> 00:03:56.810
And he asked if it was okay if Dina reached out to me, and I said, absolutely.
00:03:57.449 --> 00:03:59.530
What do I have to lose at this point?
00:03:59.769 --> 00:04:07.209
And Dina reached out to me within minutes and we started texting a little bit and we scheduled a conversation on the phone.
00:04:07.449 --> 00:04:08.729
I think we were on the phone.
00:04:08.810 --> 00:04:09.689
No, I don't think.
00:04:09.929 --> 00:04:11.849
We were on the phone for hours.
00:04:12.169 --> 00:04:13.530
We talked nonstop.
00:04:13.769 --> 00:04:21.610
Dina filled in a lot of the gaps of what she went through and the turmoil and the heartache that she had experienced with him.
00:04:21.930 --> 00:04:24.170
And at that point, I was still at that.
00:04:24.250 --> 00:04:32.009
I'm gonna file uh more of a separation and not a divorce because I thought our marriage was decent.
00:04:32.170 --> 00:04:33.530
I thought our marriage was good.
00:04:33.850 --> 00:04:40.970
So at that point I filed for divorce after she told me all that because I was like, this makes sense.
00:04:41.290 --> 00:04:58.810
And then actually, four days after my divorce, I went into my house, the house that we shared, because I had left, I left a lot of stuff behind, went to get my stuff, and I found some letters and cards on the floor that looked like my handwriting with his name on it.
00:04:58.889 --> 00:05:00.889
And I picked them up thinking, which ones are these?
00:05:00.969 --> 00:05:06.089
You know, deja vu and I was there alone, and then I noticed they were from another woman.
00:05:06.329 --> 00:05:08.649
And with that, she looked just like me and Dina.
00:05:08.729 --> 00:05:34.009
Because if a lot of people say we look alike in so many ways, but uh she looked like me, she looked like Dina, looked like a mixture of both of us, and there was something creepy about that because while we were still together, she put dates on those cards, so it filled in the dates that she put those cards on those cards was like dates that I was like, oh, that's when he said he was doing this, that, or the other, and so on and so on.
00:05:34.409 --> 00:05:42.810
So then Dina went up and I went on a mission to find this other person because we both sensed, and I don't mean to just take over here, Dina.
00:05:42.969 --> 00:05:46.729
Um, we both sensed that uh she was a really good person.
00:05:47.529 --> 00:05:53.209
Dina's daughter did find her Facebook page, but it was hard to like communicate through Facebook.
00:05:53.689 --> 00:05:57.610
There's a lot more here, but I'm giving you the reader's digest version.
00:05:57.769 --> 00:06:07.930
And then what happened was I ended up leaving that town because this person that he was seeing, we call her Jane, lived just a little town over.
00:06:08.170 --> 00:06:11.689
So I lived in a bigger town and then she lived in the smaller town next to us.
00:06:11.769 --> 00:06:14.969
So we never ran into each other, you know, it was easy.
00:06:15.289 --> 00:06:25.449
And then after I left, Dina reached out through Facebook Messenger and left her information and said, I could tell you're a really good person.
00:06:25.689 --> 00:06:30.649
Lizzie and I wanted to, you know, just reach out and see if you were still dating Rex.
00:06:31.050 --> 00:06:36.569
And I feel like Dina, this is your your portion because this was a good portion of your story.
00:06:37.289 --> 00:06:40.889
Well, so so this is what happened, Ingrid, which it's crazy.
00:06:41.129 --> 00:06:45.610
So here he is, he's married to Lizzie, he's living a double life with this other woman for almost a year.
00:06:45.769 --> 00:06:59.610
And Lizzie finds those cards and letters with the dates, and then you know, she and I are like, oh my gosh, he's gonna marry this woman immediately because he's already been with her now for going on a year, you know, making a family with her, probably.
00:07:00.009 --> 00:07:06.009
So we leave that message on her Facebook Messenger, but we're not friends, so obviously she's not gonna find it for a while.
00:07:06.170 --> 00:07:09.689
Six weeks later, sure enough, she finally calls.
00:07:09.930 --> 00:07:13.610
And we didn't see when we looked at her Facebook, we didn't see any pictures of him.
00:07:13.849 --> 00:07:23.209
So we didn't even know if she'd just, you know, couple dates or, you know, I mean, you we could tell from the cards they've been together for like nine months, but like, you know, how together?
00:07:23.370 --> 00:07:24.009
We didn't know.
00:07:24.089 --> 00:07:28.810
So anyway, so she finally calls and she says, Is this Dina?
00:07:28.889 --> 00:07:29.849
And I said, Yes.
00:07:30.089 --> 00:07:34.009
She said, Okay, I have this really confusing message from you.
00:07:34.329 --> 00:07:35.930
I don't understand it.
00:07:36.250 --> 00:07:37.849
Can you please explain it to me?
00:07:38.009 --> 00:07:48.250
And I said, Well, listen, Jane, Lizzie and I just want you to know that we know that you were dating Rex, and we know that you're a good person.
00:07:48.409 --> 00:07:52.250
We could tell by your Facebook and by all the people who love you on your Facebook.
00:07:52.409 --> 00:07:57.769
And we just want you to know that we're positive that you did not know he was married when you were with him.
00:07:58.969 --> 00:08:01.930
And she's like, and I go, I said, Are you still with him?
00:08:02.089 --> 00:08:03.610
And she said, Yes.
00:08:04.089 --> 00:08:06.889
And she said, What are you talking about?
00:08:07.610 --> 00:08:09.050
And who's Lizzie?
00:08:09.689 --> 00:08:10.490
Oh my gosh.
00:08:10.729 --> 00:08:16.889
And so I realized that Lizzie had just been cut out of the history so that it looked like he was single for six years.
00:08:17.689 --> 00:08:20.889
And so So he went from you to her is what she thinks.
00:08:21.209 --> 00:08:22.009
So he did, yeah.
00:08:22.089 --> 00:08:26.569
So he so he went, you know, he went, was he was still married to Lizzie.
00:08:26.649 --> 00:08:32.649
So he was married to Lizzie for that, you know, and then for almost a year just having a having another family with her.
00:08:32.730 --> 00:08:42.730
And then telling Lizzie that he was going on retreats for the weekend because he wanted to, you know, get in touch with God and he wanted to, you know, become a better husband and be more spiritual.
00:08:42.810 --> 00:08:56.009
And he's giving her all these song and dances, and then he's telling Jane, you know, that he, you know, he can't, you know, he's doing like weight left weightlifting and working, working out at the gym, any things like that.
00:08:56.170 --> 00:09:03.690
But the first thing that poor Jane said to me after she starts to panic was, Where does Lizzie live?
00:09:03.850 --> 00:09:12.250
And so I told her, and she said, You mean that little house where the old man and lady where he's taking care of them, the house he lives in where he's taking care of them?
00:09:12.570 --> 00:09:13.690
You have got to be kidding me.
00:09:13.850 --> 00:09:17.290
She's like, Are you telling me that was his him and his wife's home?
00:09:17.530 --> 00:09:19.210
And I was like, Oh my god.
00:09:19.530 --> 00:09:22.009
Jane, there is no little old man and old lady.
00:09:22.250 --> 00:09:28.170
Like, and so then she gets even more panicky and she's like, Do you mean this red coat that I'm wearing is Lizzie's?
00:09:28.570 --> 00:09:30.250
It's not a gift from this lady.
00:09:30.410 --> 00:09:35.530
And I was like, There was no lady, and probably it's probably Lizzie's, yes.
00:09:35.850 --> 00:09:39.530
And so now she's in this full-fledged panic, she can't believe it.
00:09:39.770 --> 00:09:45.530
Her son had gone off on a motorcycle trip with Rex, and they were out of state.
00:09:45.850 --> 00:09:52.730
And now she's thinking that her son is off with this man that she doesn't even know, and he could be crazy.
00:09:52.970 --> 00:09:55.530
So she's like freaking out completely.
00:09:55.610 --> 00:10:06.890
And I had to talk her down that you know, Rex is yes, he's crazy, and yes, he's very manipulated and very psychopath, but he's not a murderer or anything, like he's not gonna harm your son.
00:10:07.129 --> 00:10:09.290
Um, calm her down there.
00:10:09.530 --> 00:10:14.970
And then, you know, she and Lizzie ended up connecting soon after, and so they started connecting all the dots.
00:10:15.129 --> 00:10:29.370
Like, you know, they had gone on this big wonderful motorcycle trip together for the whole summer, and you know, the gifts, the souvenirs that Lizzie had bought, somehow Jane was given those as a gift from Rex, and the pictures that were taken with both of them.
00:10:29.530 --> 00:10:36.810
Lizzie was somehow cut out, and then he was, you know, told her he was going on this trip by himself to just find himself and be a better person.
00:10:36.970 --> 00:10:41.129
And they just started connecting dots all over the place, you know.
00:10:41.290 --> 00:11:02.009
So Lizzie thought that he was going to retreats and all these different things, or being with friends, and that he was driving Uber in the evenings, and then, you know, Jane thought he was going to the gym and that he couldn't bring her to the inside of his house because he didn't want to disturb the little elderly couple, although he would drive her by or run in to grab something.
00:11:02.330 --> 00:11:05.690
So the dot connection was absolutely crazy.
00:11:06.009 --> 00:11:12.890
And this little sassy Jane, redhead little southern lady, she cut everybody's hair in this town.
00:11:13.050 --> 00:11:14.250
She knew everybody.
00:11:14.490 --> 00:11:26.170
And by the time Rex pulled in a couple of days later from his trip with her son, she had a police escort come and escort him from the driveway all the way to the house.
00:11:26.410 --> 00:11:29.450
She had papers served to him by the police.
00:11:29.610 --> 00:11:35.370
She had an annulment, she had a court date, and she was completely done.
00:11:35.610 --> 00:11:40.570
And he hops off of his motorcycle completely dumbfounded, and she's got the screen door closed.
00:11:40.650 --> 00:11:43.770
She didn't want to come outside, and he yells into the house.
00:11:44.009 --> 00:11:47.210
I didn't even get a chance to tell my side of the story.
00:11:47.770 --> 00:11:51.850
Which Lizzie and I crack up at today because we're like, what could that even be?
00:11:52.090 --> 00:11:52.890
Yeah, exactly.
00:11:53.050 --> 00:11:55.850
Like who was the master of disguise for sure?
00:11:55.930 --> 00:11:57.450
But this one, hmm.
00:11:57.770 --> 00:12:03.930
I kind of would have wanted to hear it just to see like how crazy the story could be.
00:12:04.170 --> 00:12:04.810
I exactly.
00:12:04.970 --> 00:12:06.730
I would have, I would have enjoyed that too.
00:12:06.890 --> 00:12:09.129
So this is kind of this is where we're at.
00:12:09.210 --> 00:12:13.290
This is why Lizzie grabbed my ear basically and said, we're gonna tell our story.
00:12:13.450 --> 00:12:25.770
This is what we're gonna do, because there are people out there like this that manipulate and lie and deceive, and they go ruin not just one family, multiple families or multiple people, women, you know, men.
00:12:25.850 --> 00:12:27.690
There's there, it's on both sides.
00:12:28.009 --> 00:12:32.810
So, you know, we both were working full-time, full-time careers.
00:12:32.970 --> 00:12:42.650
I let my career go a while ago, and and Lizzie's about to let hers go, and this is just what we do now, you know, full-time, and because it matters.
00:12:42.810 --> 00:12:43.450
Because it matters.
00:12:43.610 --> 00:12:44.250
Oh, it does.
00:12:44.490 --> 00:12:46.570
So, okay, so they did get married.
00:12:46.890 --> 00:12:47.610
He and Jane did.
00:12:49.290 --> 00:12:54.009
The interesting part about that is Dina always laughs at me because I know dates.
00:12:54.170 --> 00:13:04.410
On June 1st, I believe Dina sent the message on Facebook Messenger, and we found out on July, I believe, July 15th.
00:13:04.570 --> 00:13:09.129
I could be off a few days, but just to kind of give you the the broad, like she said, six weeks.
00:13:09.610 --> 00:13:16.490
Jane married Rex on June 2nd, the day after Dina sent the message.
00:13:16.650 --> 00:13:21.370
So if she had seen the message right away, she would have never married him.
00:13:21.850 --> 00:13:22.970
Oh my goodness.
00:13:23.290 --> 00:13:26.650
Facebook, come on, years ago.
00:13:26.810 --> 00:13:29.050
So obviously it wasn't like you know, this June and July.
00:13:29.129 --> 00:13:30.730
This was this happened years ago.
00:13:31.050 --> 00:13:36.490
And I would like to have a disclaimer: Dina and I are not professional Facebook stalkers.
00:13:37.690 --> 00:13:45.770
We were just women desperate to see if, you know, because everybody said you need to tell her or you would hear, oh, she's not gonna believe you anyway.
00:13:45.930 --> 00:13:52.810
But in both Dina and I were in mutual feeling that we needed to let her know whether she wanted to believe us or not.
00:13:52.890 --> 00:13:56.570
That was up to her, but we felt like she had to know.
00:13:56.730 --> 00:14:03.290
Like it was like, especially me, I think I was just driven to get her to know what happened.
00:14:03.530 --> 00:14:04.570
And you know what, Ingrid?
00:14:04.730 --> 00:14:06.730
I had never told Lizzie about him.
00:14:06.890 --> 00:14:10.250
Like I knew that he that that Rex was marrying Lizzie.
00:14:10.410 --> 00:14:12.490
I didn't know Lizzie at that time, of course.
00:14:12.570 --> 00:14:14.730
But my kids were like, mommy, you need to tell her.
00:14:14.890 --> 00:14:17.530
You went through 27 years of hell, you need to tell her.
00:14:17.690 --> 00:14:21.450
And I just thought she's not gonna believe me, she's gonna think I'm the crazy ex.
00:14:21.610 --> 00:14:24.009
Like, it's just gonna cause weirdness between all of us.
00:14:24.090 --> 00:14:26.410
And of course, Rex will be furious, you know.
00:14:26.490 --> 00:14:28.890
And then if my kids go visit their dad, it's gonna be weird.
00:14:28.970 --> 00:14:30.970
And I just I thought it all through and I didn't.
00:14:31.050 --> 00:14:32.330
So I still carried that.
00:14:32.490 --> 00:14:33.530
Man, I feel bad.
00:14:33.610 --> 00:14:41.210
I wished I would have, you know, because Lizzie was such a good person and she didn't deserve that six years of bankruptcy and all the things that they went through.
00:14:41.450 --> 00:14:46.009
And so then, of course, now we have this new person that we can save, you know.
00:14:46.410 --> 00:14:48.650
So we were just so passionate to save her.
00:14:48.970 --> 00:14:53.690
So, did you guys know each other before you started date?
00:14:54.250 --> 00:14:56.170
Well, you guys were still married, Dina.
00:14:56.250 --> 00:15:00.410
You and Rex were still married when Lizzie was dating him because you didn't know.
00:15:00.890 --> 00:15:01.770
No, they were married.
00:15:03.050 --> 00:15:04.570
Well, we okay, so we were separate.
00:15:04.730 --> 00:15:05.610
I mean, he moved out.
00:15:05.690 --> 00:15:06.410
Like he moved out.
00:15:06.890 --> 00:15:10.250
It was just a matter of, you know, in California, divorces take like six months.
00:15:10.410 --> 00:15:13.129
So it was just a matter of the divorce going through.
00:15:13.290 --> 00:15:14.570
He had already left.
00:15:14.730 --> 00:15:22.009
Um, so we weren't, I mean, technically we were married when they were dating, but you know, he he was out in his own place and everything.
00:15:22.170 --> 00:15:28.170
But of course he told Lizzy that he'd he and I had been divorced for two years and spun that lie.
00:15:28.330 --> 00:15:29.290
So yeah.
00:15:29.610 --> 00:15:32.970
And he was so good that he was a good charmer for sure.
00:15:33.610 --> 00:15:35.530
Was there anyone before you, Dina?
00:15:36.650 --> 00:15:52.730
Um, there was nobody that he was married to because I was only 17, but he did have an affair with a woman right when he got out of high school who was, you know, he made a friend in another town after high school, um, a guy friend he played basketball with who's probably in his 20s.
00:15:52.810 --> 00:15:57.050
And of course, Rex was only, you know, 18 when he graduated high school.
00:15:57.210 --> 00:16:06.090
And so this guy was married with a child, and he started having an affair with this guy's wife, you know, as an 18-year-old.
00:16:06.330 --> 00:16:14.330
And before that, when he would take school field trips, because he was a big um, you know, basketball star and all that, he would take school field trips.
00:16:14.570 --> 00:16:19.210
And when he got a hotel room, he would actually rent a prostitute on his school field trips.
00:16:19.370 --> 00:16:19.530
Wow.
00:16:20.650 --> 00:16:21.290
This goes.
00:16:21.690 --> 00:16:22.090
Whoa.
00:16:22.810 --> 00:16:23.450
Yeah.
00:16:24.009 --> 00:16:27.690
So okay, so goodness.
00:16:28.250 --> 00:16:29.610
This is just craziness.
00:16:29.690 --> 00:16:32.650
Um, but the thing is, it's not so crazy.
00:16:32.810 --> 00:16:41.129
The only part that's crazy is that the two of you actually have like joined forces because this story is really, it's not unique.
00:16:41.290 --> 00:16:44.330
I think that you know, it happens quite a lot.
00:16:44.650 --> 00:16:58.490
And I know that my abuser had previously been married, and I know that after our relationship ended, I was very concerned about the person that he ended up dating.
00:16:58.650 --> 00:17:09.690
And I felt this sense of responsibility for her, but we had mutual overlaps in in friends.
00:17:09.930 --> 00:17:18.410
And so I know that she knew about me and she knew my story, and she still, she still did not believe it.
00:17:18.569 --> 00:17:21.609
Uh, they, I don't believe, are together now.
00:17:21.849 --> 00:17:32.410
They were, and um, I think that relationship has ended, but there is a this degree of responsibility that you feel for the next woman, right?
00:17:34.890 --> 00:17:39.289
I actually really love that you're bringing that up because we don't talk about that enough.
00:17:39.450 --> 00:17:45.210
And I feel like this is obviously Dina's like, because that was her in this position.
00:17:45.610 --> 00:17:47.930
But I just realized I don't think we ever talk about that.
00:17:48.009 --> 00:17:49.930
I know Dina and I have had conversations.
00:17:50.090 --> 00:17:50.650
What do you do?
00:17:50.809 --> 00:17:51.450
Do you tell them?
00:17:51.529 --> 00:17:52.090
Do you not?
00:17:52.250 --> 00:17:53.610
But I'll let Dina continue.
00:17:53.850 --> 00:17:54.569
Sorry.
00:17:54.970 --> 00:17:56.890
Oh no, no, no, sorry at all.
00:17:57.130 --> 00:17:58.569
No, so yeah, agreed.
00:17:58.730 --> 00:18:03.690
Like, you know, um, if if I were to go back again, I would have told her.
00:18:03.930 --> 00:18:07.049
Even if she would have said, you know, you're crazy, get out of my life.
00:18:07.130 --> 00:18:08.970
And even if Rex was like, how dare you?
00:18:09.130 --> 00:18:12.330
And I and did his big roaring thing.
00:18:12.650 --> 00:18:27.690
At least it would plant a little seed there somewhere, you know, so that when she started seeing the signs that were obviously going to show up, then it would give her some sort of a, you know, baseline for what she was seeing and feeling.
00:18:27.930 --> 00:18:37.049
But, you know, if that person has none of that and nobody's saying anything, you know, then whatever they tell you is that's all you've got.
00:18:37.130 --> 00:18:38.890
It's all you've got to go on.
00:18:39.769 --> 00:18:40.090
Yeah.
00:18:40.250 --> 00:18:50.730
And it's gosh, it's it's easy to believe the person you're with, the relationship that you're in, because of course he was telling her all sorts of stories.
00:18:50.809 --> 00:18:51.529
I was crazy.
00:18:51.610 --> 00:18:52.650
We're all crazy, right?
00:18:52.809 --> 00:18:56.650
We're the crazy exes, and they did nothing wrong.
00:18:56.970 --> 00:19:07.610
And, you know, it just whatever whatever they may admit to, well, yeah, I might have said that or I might have done that, but it's because she did this first.
00:19:07.690 --> 00:19:09.289
She kind of backed me into this corner.
00:19:09.370 --> 00:19:14.809
I really didn't have a choice, or she ignored me, or whatever excuses there are.
00:19:15.130 --> 00:19:15.610
Exactly.
00:19:15.769 --> 00:19:19.690
So, in other words, she's more crazy and I was just reacting.
00:19:19.930 --> 00:19:20.890
What could I do?
00:19:21.049 --> 00:19:23.529
You know, yeah, maybe I did that, but this is why.
00:19:23.610 --> 00:19:26.009
I mean, what would anybody do in that circumstance?
00:19:26.250 --> 00:19:26.650
Mm-hmm.
00:19:26.970 --> 00:19:33.610
Even even me knowing what I know about my abuser, and we were together for a long period of time.
00:19:34.090 --> 00:19:43.850
I still to this day, if his ex-wife, if it's if she messaged me or if she wanted to talk, I would be like, oh, I don't know if you're crazy or not.
00:19:44.650 --> 00:19:49.529
But the thing is, like, I know that she more than likely went through the same thing I did.
00:19:49.850 --> 00:19:51.769
I think it gets worse every time.
00:19:51.930 --> 00:19:54.490
Like the next relationship, I think it is worse.
00:19:54.809 --> 00:19:58.730
But I think she probably did go through something very similar.
00:19:59.049 --> 00:20:06.890
And she's probably not crazy, but he painted such a very strong picture of how nuts she was.
00:20:07.450 --> 00:20:09.690
Oh, and they're so convincing.
00:20:09.850 --> 00:20:11.769
They're so good at it.
00:20:12.009 --> 00:20:14.009
I mean, really, truly, it's amazing.
00:20:14.090 --> 00:20:18.330
And if there's nobody to counter that, that's all you've got.
00:20:18.490 --> 00:20:20.890
And then, of course, now you're, you know, you love them.
00:20:20.970 --> 00:20:28.170
And generally it's the beginning of the relationship when you're finding out about their ex and you're already infatuated and you already think they're amazing.
00:20:28.330 --> 00:20:31.049
And so, you know, you don't want to believe it.
00:20:31.210 --> 00:20:32.009
So there you go.
00:20:32.090 --> 00:20:33.690
That's the perfect combination.
00:20:33.850 --> 00:20:39.769
That's the only truth you have, and you would never want to believe something about somebody that you feel is amazing.
00:20:40.090 --> 00:20:40.490
Yeah.
00:20:40.730 --> 00:20:41.049
Okay.
00:20:41.210 --> 00:20:45.610
So now let's talk about what you guys are doing because you have joined forces, you do have a podcast.
00:20:45.769 --> 00:20:48.250
What what is the what is your podcast?
00:20:48.330 --> 00:20:48.970
What's a purpose?
00:20:49.049 --> 00:20:50.730
What are you guys trying to get out there?
00:20:51.210 --> 00:20:57.610
So our podcast is surviving toxic relationships, and we also have a YouTube channel and we have a public Facebook.
00:20:58.009 --> 00:21:03.289
Um, we also we're on a few social media, but for the most part, um, we're on LinkedIn as well.
00:21:03.370 --> 00:21:06.569
But for the most part, we stick with, you know, the bigger ones.
00:21:06.809 --> 00:21:10.090
Um, and you know, we have written two books.
00:21:10.250 --> 00:21:26.650
They're not published yet, they're going to be out soon, but we've we've taken the time to write a book for moms that are trying to help their kids, their daughters especially, see signs, you know, for toxic relationships early, manipulation, gaslighting.
00:21:26.730 --> 00:21:27.690
What do those things look like?
00:21:27.769 --> 00:21:31.210
And there's little exercises for the moms to do with their daughters.
00:21:31.529 --> 00:21:48.970
And, you know, that is hopefully going to help the next generation, you know, and this is not just for your daughter that's looking at, you know, boyfriend relationships, it's also for people in her life that are an authority, or even her best friends, you know, that might be manipulative and gaslighting.
00:21:49.130 --> 00:21:57.610
Because, you know, when our kids have been in the inside these relationships, or even if they haven't, they just don't have the tools to know how to deal with them.
00:21:57.769 --> 00:22:03.289
And if they have grown up in a toxic environment, then this feels normal and comfortable.
00:22:03.610 --> 00:22:04.090
Right.
00:22:04.330 --> 00:22:04.490
Right.
00:22:04.809 --> 00:22:16.250
If our second book is for the for the woman that's in the relationship now, and then it just basically is chapter, you know, gaslighting, trauma bonding, you know, financial abuse, um, all you know, betrayal trauma.
00:22:16.410 --> 00:22:24.809
It just has just chapter by chapter of all the things, 18 chapters, and you know, it's going to have affirmations and different things um for the woman.
00:22:24.890 --> 00:22:27.049
There's even prayers in there for her to pray, you.
00:22:27.529 --> 00:22:30.250
Know it's it's it's more of a faith-based slant to it.
00:22:30.569 --> 00:22:36.490
So just to kind of help you know her identify, oh, that's what this is, and that's what it feels like.
00:22:36.650 --> 00:22:47.370
And in both books, we put in our own personal experiences with each topic so that people can kind of identify with this is the here's a little story about what this looked like.
00:22:47.610 --> 00:22:58.090
So I was gonna say, and in the end, the goal is that each person will learn to have discernment in any type of relationship.
00:22:58.250 --> 00:23:04.890
Yes, they're mostly focused on the intimate partner, but it can go with anybody.
00:23:05.130 --> 00:23:05.769
Yeah.
00:23:06.170 --> 00:23:07.049
Oh, it really can.
00:23:07.210 --> 00:23:12.090
I had a very good friend that she was my friend during this relationship.
00:23:12.250 --> 00:23:15.370
And when I ended the relationship, we talked every day.
00:23:15.450 --> 00:23:21.529
And then I realized the reason they didn't like each other is because they were actually exactly the same.
00:23:21.850 --> 00:23:25.610
And she got mad at me one time and said, I'm not talking to you anymore.
00:23:25.769 --> 00:23:28.490
And I said, I am taking advantage of this opportunity.
00:23:28.730 --> 00:23:31.370
And the friendship ended at that moment.
00:23:31.690 --> 00:23:34.410
Um, so what are some of the things?
00:23:34.569 --> 00:23:47.049
I don't, without giving away all the details of your book, but what are some of the things if people are in a relationship that they could be looking for that are clues that this is actually not a healthy relationship?
00:23:47.529 --> 00:23:53.450
I think one of the things we focused on, and I know this is an easy one, is the charm versus character.
00:23:53.690 --> 00:23:56.730
We are so swept in by a charm of a person.
00:23:57.049 --> 00:23:58.890
Uh, Rex was very charming.
00:23:58.970 --> 00:24:03.610
My first husband, maybe not so much, but Rex definitely was very charming with me.
00:24:03.769 --> 00:24:09.130
And I always told Dina it was probably because he went through so much counseling while he was married to you and you broke him in a bit.
00:24:09.210 --> 00:24:11.130
I don't know, and he learned the trade better.
00:24:11.370 --> 00:24:14.170
But it's learning the difference between character and charm.
00:24:14.330 --> 00:24:18.009
Character is what you are behind the closed doors and outside.
00:24:18.250 --> 00:24:26.410
A charmer will be so charming outside, and then you may have a whole different human being inside the doors.
00:24:26.650 --> 00:24:32.730
So if you have that, that means that you're looking at a charmer, not necessarily someone that has good character.
00:24:32.970 --> 00:24:35.529
Just one of those patterns to look for.
00:24:36.330 --> 00:24:47.930
Yeah, and the charmer, I saw a meme or there was something of where somebody on the outside that they're being charmed by this individual, colleague, friend, whatever it is, that I don't know what you're talking about.
00:24:48.090 --> 00:24:49.130
They were always nice to me.
00:24:49.210 --> 00:24:53.289
They were never cruel to me, but of course they weren't because you weren't their victim.
00:24:53.529 --> 00:24:54.809
And that's the difference.
00:24:54.970 --> 00:25:03.289
They act one way with their victim versus the rest of the world, which makes you feel like you're the crazy one and you're the one that needs to change, right?
00:25:03.930 --> 00:25:04.730
Exactly.
00:25:04.890 --> 00:25:05.769
You nailed it.
00:25:05.850 --> 00:25:06.730
That's exactly it.
00:25:06.809 --> 00:25:22.410
And when everybody, you know, my ex, I mean, from his neighbors to his friends to anybody, you know, I mean, his neighbor, they they lived right next door and they knew him since he was a little boy, and they just thought the world of him.
00:25:22.490 --> 00:25:26.009
You know, he was a gentleman, he'd open the door for them, he'd mow their lawn.
00:25:26.170 --> 00:25:33.210
You know, it's like you're right, you feel like you're crazy because all these people say, you know, what are you talking about?
00:25:33.370 --> 00:25:34.490
Like they're a wonderful guy.
00:25:34.569 --> 00:25:36.170
I've known them for years.
00:25:36.569 --> 00:25:46.569
But they, you know, his mother knew of the things that he had done because she was his mother, and you know, he got caught in high school and even arrested in high school.
00:25:46.809 --> 00:25:57.049
So she knew of those things, but she still told me that I was just insecure and jealous, and that that's why I had problems with the things I was finding out.
00:25:57.769 --> 00:26:00.809
So it's like, you know, you have all these voices.
00:26:00.970 --> 00:26:15.049
And um, to your point about asking, like some of the signs, I think really the biggest sign that people don't know what to do with in these relationships, or even before you commit to a relationship, is something just feels off.
00:26:15.610 --> 00:26:22.809
You know, and it doesn't necessarily mean it feels off because you know they're they're not at home when they say they will or they seem to be lying.
00:26:22.970 --> 00:26:30.490
It could also just feel like you don't feel entirely comfortable being yourself in this relationship.
00:26:30.730 --> 00:26:33.210
You start to shrink, you start to get smaller.
00:26:33.370 --> 00:26:40.170
You don't want to confront, you don't want to mention something, you know, you don't want to have an opinion, even if it's a good opinion.
00:26:40.330 --> 00:26:47.210
You start to change your own self and your own internal dialogue to appease them.
00:26:47.930 --> 00:26:50.730
And that right there is huge.
00:26:50.890 --> 00:26:52.090
That's a huge sign.
00:26:52.250 --> 00:26:57.769
Feeling, you know, you walk on the door and you just feel a little anxious instead of excited.
00:26:58.090 --> 00:27:08.330
Um, you know, I remember when my husband would be get home, the garage door would close from him driving in, and our kids would just go to their rooms, all of them.
00:27:08.410 --> 00:27:10.490
They would get up and go straight to their rooms.
00:27:10.730 --> 00:27:18.970
You know, those kinds of things, like just you're not free to be your happy, excited, passionate self at all times.
00:27:19.289 --> 00:27:20.490
You start changing.
00:27:20.650 --> 00:27:27.930
And that's one of the biggest signs, I think, that we don't quite know what to do with that because we start to believe that we're the problem.
00:27:28.569 --> 00:27:30.250
So we're trying to be better, right?
00:27:30.330 --> 00:27:34.009
We're trying to change, we're trying to be more pleasing to this person.
00:27:35.210 --> 00:27:35.769
Yeah.
00:27:36.009 --> 00:27:42.330
And then I remember just there was like one day I looked in the mirror and it's like, I didn't even know who I was anymore.
00:27:42.490 --> 00:27:47.450
I lost whatever identity I had going into the relationship was completely gone.
00:27:47.610 --> 00:27:48.970
And I was lost.
00:27:49.610 --> 00:27:53.130
Oh, that is, yeah, that's usually a sign later on in the relationship.
00:27:53.450 --> 00:27:53.690
Oh, yeah.
00:27:53.769 --> 00:27:56.330
That's that's like you should have left before that part.
00:27:57.049 --> 00:28:03.370
But but you're right, but you literally lose your way because you just you keep giving, you keep giving in.
00:28:03.610 --> 00:28:11.289
You know, you're you're shrinking and shrinking and shrinking, you know, or compromise, compromise, compromise to make them happy, to keep the peace.
00:28:11.370 --> 00:28:16.170
To sometimes you get to the point where you're just like, I just need the kids to actually have a decent home.
00:28:16.410 --> 00:28:20.809
So whatever it takes, you know, to where, you know, my kids can feel happy.
00:28:20.890 --> 00:28:22.569
So I'll be the yin to the yang.
00:28:22.650 --> 00:28:23.289
But you're right.
00:28:23.450 --> 00:28:26.090
And that's one thing, Ingrid, that that Lizzie and I want to do.
00:28:26.170 --> 00:28:32.890
We want to start groups for women where they can meet, you know, virtually once a week, come together and talk about these things.
00:28:33.210 --> 00:28:39.690
Because once you lose yourself, it's really sometimes hard to find it and to get it back, you know.
00:28:39.850 --> 00:28:42.330
And some women don't even know they've lost themselves.
00:28:42.490 --> 00:28:56.490
They honestly just feel like all these conflicting emotions, you know, and they've they've become a person that they didn't used to be, like you said, looking in the mirror, but they don't even realize that's how slow and calculated this has been.
00:28:56.730 --> 00:29:00.569
They don't even realize how they got there or that they are there.
00:29:01.289 --> 00:29:05.130
They're just thinking that they were doing the thing that any loving person would do.
00:29:05.529 --> 00:29:10.730
And many because there's yeah, they're they're so twisty and and confusing about it.
00:29:10.970 --> 00:29:14.650
Well, and then you find yourself isolated, which is another red flag.
00:29:14.809 --> 00:29:21.210
And a lot of times when you're at first in the relationship, it's more like they seem like they're trying to protect you.
00:29:21.450 --> 00:29:26.250
But then over time, you are now on your own little island with them.
00:29:26.890 --> 00:29:43.370
And by that point, you're so vested and you've lost connection with so many people that it also is part of the reason why you lose your identity as well, because the connections that you have are no longer there, they're void, and that's a really hard, painful thing.
00:29:43.610 --> 00:29:53.930
So I would say that when a person has been through abuse, the hardest you have the exit, and then you have the healing portion, which is the biggest part of it.
00:29:54.330 --> 00:30:02.330
But then what people don't really spend a lot of time in, well, of course, you could do it in all seasons of life, is the reinvention because yes, you have lost yourself.
00:30:02.490 --> 00:30:17.769
But a lot of times the reinvention can happen during the healing, it seems like, but a lot of times it's after the healing because if you ended up through all this trauma while your kids were little, you're in that survival mode, and there's no time to thrive at that point.
00:30:17.930 --> 00:30:25.930
So you're surviving, you think you're going through the process of healing, and then it's like as the kids get older, you're like, Oh wow, who am I?
00:30:26.569 --> 00:30:26.970
Right.
00:30:27.210 --> 00:30:28.410
It's a whole different phase.
00:30:28.569 --> 00:30:33.289
Whereas when I got divorced, my first husband, when my kids were all we little.
00:30:34.170 --> 00:30:44.809
So I was just I was going to school full time, I was working, I had four kids, and it was just me because you know, he got kicked completely out, and we had to get him out of the picture.
00:30:45.049 --> 00:30:47.289
And then I was like that for 10 years.
00:30:47.450 --> 00:30:51.529
But my second marriage, when I divorced, it was just me.
00:30:51.690 --> 00:30:56.890
My kids were all adults, so that whole loss was so different than my first marriage.
00:30:57.130 --> 00:30:57.930
Divorce.
00:30:58.170 --> 00:31:04.890
First marriage didn't seem as bad because it was so traumatic that I could, I just I could finally breathe, but I was in survival.
00:31:05.049 --> 00:31:11.850
But second one, when you don't have anybody there and you don't know yourself anymore, yeah, it's different.
00:31:12.250 --> 00:31:17.930
Well, one thing I wanted to say too about isolation is it doesn't necessarily look like blatant isolation.
00:31:18.090 --> 00:31:24.250
It's not like I'm going to pick you up and I'm going to take you to this remote place and I'm never going to let you talk to anybody again.
00:31:24.569 --> 00:31:33.769
Mine used to do things like if I had plans, hey, I'm going to go watch a movie with my girlfriends tonight, or I'm going to go out for a drink with my girlfriends tomorrow night, whatever it is.
00:31:33.930 --> 00:31:34.890
Yeah, yeah, do that.
00:31:34.970 --> 00:31:36.009
You need to have a girl's night.
00:31:36.090 --> 00:31:36.970
You need to have a girls' night.
00:31:37.049 --> 00:31:41.289
And right before I'm about to go out the door, like, oh, I'm going to miss you so much.
00:31:41.450 --> 00:31:43.769
I really wish that we could just stay in tonight.
00:31:43.850 --> 00:31:45.930
And it just, it sounded romantic.
00:31:46.250 --> 00:31:49.370
And then I was like, okay, I'll the girls will understand.
00:31:49.450 --> 00:31:50.730
I'll hang out inside.
00:31:50.890 --> 00:31:55.529
And then just that repetitive kind of thing over and over again.
00:31:55.610 --> 00:32:00.170
And finally, girlfriends stop making plans with you because they know you're going to bail.
00:32:00.809 --> 00:32:01.049
Yeah.
00:32:01.370 --> 00:32:02.090
That's a good point.
00:32:02.330 --> 00:32:02.809
Love bombing.
00:32:02.970 --> 00:32:03.130
Yeah.
00:32:03.289 --> 00:32:05.210
Love bombing can be used as a weapon too.
00:32:05.370 --> 00:32:15.529
You know, it's like you wouldn't think that kind, you know, validating gestures of you mean so much to me and our time is so important could actually be abuse.
00:32:15.690 --> 00:32:16.569
Isn't that crazy?
00:32:16.809 --> 00:32:17.450
Right, right.
00:32:17.610 --> 00:32:23.930
Well, that's how they, that's why they get to keep you in for so long, is because of that love bombing, because you can see how good it can be.
00:32:24.170 --> 00:32:27.450
And yeah, sure it can get bad, but look how good it was.
00:32:27.610 --> 00:32:30.330
And then again, he's so nice to everybody else.
00:32:30.410 --> 00:32:34.009
What do I need to change about myself to get us back to that really good time?
00:32:34.250 --> 00:32:34.730
Exactly.
00:32:34.809 --> 00:32:38.330
And that's where you start to feel crazy because you see the good in them.
00:32:38.490 --> 00:32:40.330
You see, you know, the wonderful times.
00:32:40.410 --> 00:32:43.289
It's not every single day that you're miserable and unhappy.
00:32:43.450 --> 00:32:45.049
You know, it is a pattern, though.
00:32:45.289 --> 00:32:46.009
It's a pattern.
00:32:46.090 --> 00:32:51.210
And that's where you really start to realize that this is not a good situation because you see patterns.
00:32:51.370 --> 00:32:54.650
But if it was every single day, we'd leave in a, you know, in a month or two.
00:32:54.890 --> 00:32:58.490
But unfortunately, it's a whole you know push and pull.
00:32:58.650 --> 00:33:00.650
You know, you I feel you pulling away.
00:33:00.809 --> 00:33:02.970
I feel you starting to doubt our relationship.
00:33:03.049 --> 00:33:05.769
So I'm gonna love bomb you and pull you back in.
00:33:06.009 --> 00:33:10.970
You know, I'm gonna isolate you by by telling you how we haven't had any time together, sweetheart.
00:33:11.049 --> 00:33:22.090
You know, yeah, it's it's it's incredible that you know that this happens the way it does, but it also paints a picture of why we're so confused and why there's such a cognitive dissonance.
00:33:22.330 --> 00:33:28.009
You know, your mind says one thing and your gut says another, and they're always fighting with each other.
00:33:28.569 --> 00:33:30.330
Okay, so I'm gonna ask a question.
00:33:30.650 --> 00:33:38.569
How long before you started realizing it was not a healthy marriage and you needed to get out before you got out?
00:33:38.650 --> 00:33:43.289
And then I'm gonna ask a question that I hate the most, which is why didn't you leave?
00:33:43.850 --> 00:33:45.289
Okay, fair enough.
00:33:45.450 --> 00:34:00.650
Um, it's I noticed I okay, there were red flags even before we got married because I found out that he had had the affair um with the married woman, and you know, but I was 17 years old when I married him, so I didn't even know what to do with that.
00:34:00.890 --> 00:34:04.410
So there were definitely red flags all over the place before I married him.
00:34:04.569 --> 00:34:12.809
Even the fact that one time we were having a hose fight and you know, I we were watering the or washing the car, and I flicked him with the hose and he got mad.
00:34:13.130 --> 00:34:15.929
And I was like, what have I done?
00:34:16.170 --> 00:34:23.769
But within two years, I saw that that there was an actual pattern of him not being home like he should have been home.
00:34:24.009 --> 00:34:26.090
Things were weird, something was off.
00:34:26.489 --> 00:34:35.449
And I found all of these back then in the 80s, there were 900 phone calls on your phone bill, and they were basically explicit phone calls.
00:34:35.609 --> 00:34:42.649
And I found this huge bill of all these 900 phone calls on our phone bill, and I was dumbfounded.
00:34:42.969 --> 00:34:48.089
And he told me that the neighbor kid came in every day for three months and and did this.
00:34:48.250 --> 00:34:50.329
I'm like, okay, okay.
00:34:50.489 --> 00:34:53.529
And so I packed up and took, we we had a baby at that point.
00:34:53.689 --> 00:34:55.289
I took the baby and I left.
00:34:55.529 --> 00:35:00.009
So at that point, I knew that there was something way wrong.
00:35:00.329 --> 00:35:04.169
But, you know, it's it's a nuanced answer to say, why didn't I leave?
00:35:04.329 --> 00:35:07.369
Because I left him nine times in that 27 years.
00:35:07.609 --> 00:35:12.889
And it's easy to look from the outside and be like, okay, you're definitely you have the problem.
00:35:13.049 --> 00:35:13.609
And I did.
00:35:13.689 --> 00:35:14.649
I was codependent.
00:35:14.730 --> 00:35:16.089
I was completely confused.
00:35:16.250 --> 00:35:20.730
I was completely dumbfounded and didn't understand what this was.
00:35:21.049 --> 00:35:25.769
But, you know, every time that, you know, that I would leave, I'd pack up the kids and I would move.
00:35:25.929 --> 00:35:33.289
I would be like, I'm drawing a line in the sand that this sexual indiscretion that you keep doing cannot happen anymore.
00:35:33.529 --> 00:35:36.329
And then I would catch him and then he would fall apart.
00:35:36.569 --> 00:36:02.250
He would be crying and begging, you know, and doing these huge gestures, like, you know, running three miles in the rain to me with a wet, soggy love note in his pocket and going to therapy and going to the pastor, and you know, just, you know, and then I would have the pastor calling me, and I'd have my sister calling me, and I would have other people calling me saying, Look, this guy adores you.
00:36:02.409 --> 00:36:03.369
He's devastated.
00:36:03.529 --> 00:36:09.769
What more do you want him to do to prove that he's sorry and that he, you know, that he doesn't want to be this person?
00:36:10.089 --> 00:36:24.089
And so now I've got this situation where by now we have a couple of kids, and I'm thinking that he's the victim of whatever this is, and that he doesn't want to be this person, and he now needs me to help him not be this person, right?
00:36:24.730 --> 00:36:30.169
So you add that in to the fact that you love this person and you have children with them.
00:36:30.329 --> 00:36:40.250
And by the way, if you left, you'd be too stinking broke because he had so much financial crap that he was hiding and lying about and doing that we were always poor.
00:36:40.489 --> 00:36:47.129
And when you put that all in there, it's like, and people are on the outside are telling you, he's a good guy.
00:36:47.289 --> 00:36:52.649
He's just caught up in some whatever, you know, he can get help and you can be happy again.
00:36:52.809 --> 00:36:55.769
And then on top of all that, I had a strong faith in God.
00:36:55.849 --> 00:37:03.929
And I truly believe that God, you know, not only helped people to get better, but also was very pro-marriage, pro-family.
00:37:04.169 --> 00:37:05.929
Why wouldn't he answer my prayers?
00:37:06.089 --> 00:37:12.329
And that was very much confirmed by the church that I went to and by the pastor that I was, you know, counseling with.
00:37:12.569 --> 00:37:18.329
So you throw all that together and it kind of helps you understand the crazy pie that's happening.
00:37:18.649 --> 00:37:29.210
But at some point, the patterns keep going, and you just, you know, you start hearing the voices that are telling you something different, and you start to slowly wake up.
00:37:29.369 --> 00:37:31.849
And so that's kind of how it happened for me.
00:37:32.329 --> 00:37:37.210
Did you have like one specific thing that you said that's the last straw I'm out?
00:37:37.289 --> 00:37:39.769
Or was it, like you said, kind of a slow awakening?
00:37:40.169 --> 00:37:40.809
It was both.
00:37:40.969 --> 00:37:41.449
It was both.
00:37:41.529 --> 00:37:46.730
During the 27 years, you know, there were multiple sexual indiscretions that were happening.
00:37:46.889 --> 00:37:55.689
And of course, each one pulled me further away from him and my affection for him and my trust, obviously, of him.
00:37:55.849 --> 00:37:58.089
But there definitely was one final straw.
00:37:58.409 --> 00:38:09.289
And that was he had actually been, from what I thought, clean, you know, no, no sexual indiscretions, because his was like adult, seedy adult shops and things like that.
00:38:09.369 --> 00:38:19.369
And um, you know, but it hadn't been an actual person person, except for there was one occasion where there was a person, but it was just a fling kind of thing.
00:38:19.769 --> 00:38:28.169
But he'd been, you know, he'd gone through this intensive um sexual addiction recovery program that he lived there for six months.
00:38:28.250 --> 00:38:31.369
And when he came back, I just had all this renewed hope.
00:38:31.529 --> 00:38:38.489
He seemed he apologized to me like for reels, like it seemed like he really understood what he had done and meant it.
00:38:38.889 --> 00:38:45.049
And so we were happy, and the kids started moving out, they were older, they started all moving out, and it was just he and I.
00:38:45.210 --> 00:38:52.649
And so I didn't have that added stress of him being mean to our children and just, you know, them just like, ugh, you know, it was just him and I.
00:38:52.730 --> 00:39:09.129
And so we were driving out off after this honeymoon trip we had had, and all of a sudden his phone rings, and of course I answer it because he's driving, and there's a woman's voice on the phone, and she's like, and it's a blocked number, and I could tell she was outside, so I knew it wasn't a sales call, and she was like, Who is this?
00:39:09.449 --> 00:39:12.489
And I said, No, no, you called this phone, who is this?
00:39:12.730 --> 00:39:15.929
She's like, No, I asked you first, who is this?
00:39:16.489 --> 00:39:21.849
And you know, that knowing by then you get this knowing feeling, right?
00:39:21.929 --> 00:39:25.849
In your gut, like you feel kind of nauseous and kind of gross, and you just know.
00:39:26.009 --> 00:39:28.089
And I was like, and she hung up.
00:39:28.409 --> 00:39:38.009
And then I just looked at him, and of course, he's like, Look, whatever that was, I have been clean and doing great for this number of you know, two or three years.
00:39:38.250 --> 00:39:40.329
It is, I did not do anything.
00:39:40.569 --> 00:39:46.730
And I, you know, that was the awful part when you didn't have proof, but you felt it and you kind of knew it in your heart, but you didn't have proof.
00:39:46.889 --> 00:40:05.210
So the next morning when he went off to work, I went and just started doing all the all the like phone hacking and everything I could do, you know, and I just had to because it was I couldn't live this way anymore in the in-between for sometimes a year where you don't find anything, but you know something happened.
00:40:05.449 --> 00:40:10.089
And sure enough, I found this email account that I didn't even know he had.
00:40:10.409 --> 00:40:18.730
And in that email account, he had been seeking out um prostitutes on Craigslist for just sexual favors.
00:40:18.809 --> 00:40:21.129
And I hope I can say this on your podcast because if not, oh yeah.
00:40:23.049 --> 00:40:24.169
There's been a lot on this podcast.
00:40:24.250 --> 00:40:24.329
Yeah.
00:40:24.730 --> 00:40:25.289
Okay, okay.
00:40:25.449 --> 00:40:26.969
All right, then you don't have to delete it.
00:40:27.129 --> 00:40:38.009
But yeah, so he had so he would go on a trip with my dad, and that my dad and him would go on these fun trips, like, you know, to all these sports events and all these, you know, fun things.
00:40:38.250 --> 00:40:51.609
Well, what he would do is he would secure the hotel room and get to the hotel early before my dad got there, and that gave him time to call people on Craigslist and have sexual encounters while he had the hotel.
00:40:52.250 --> 00:40:56.969
And I looked at these and I was like dumbfounded.
00:40:57.129 --> 00:41:12.649
Like, I mean, of all the things, you know, and so then when I confronted him on it, he his his always his little trick was, I'm gonna confess everything to her because that makes her feel like I am on the path to healing.
00:41:13.210 --> 00:41:22.409
So in that tearful confession to try to get me to, you know, take him back, he said, you know, that he had actually been having an affair with a woman at work.
00:41:22.969 --> 00:41:32.250
And you know, it's funny, like I feel like you just get to this point where you're so done that there are no emotions anymore.
00:41:32.409 --> 00:41:37.849
Like you're not angry and screaming at him, you're not bawling in the car.
00:41:38.009 --> 00:41:43.929
You know, I mean, I did some crying, but it wasn't like a like I'm gonna miss him or I'm sad or I don't have a family anymore.
00:41:44.009 --> 00:41:47.529
It was like that sucks for me, you know, to be here.
00:41:47.689 --> 00:41:49.369
But I was so resolute.
00:41:49.609 --> 00:41:53.049
He could have done anything and it would not have mattered.
00:41:53.210 --> 00:41:58.730
Like I at this point, I knew that I knew that I knew that this thing was over, and that's what I needed.
00:41:58.809 --> 00:42:00.089
I'm such a perfectionist.
00:42:00.169 --> 00:42:01.609
I'm so afraid of failure.
00:42:01.849 --> 00:42:07.369
I needed that resolute in my brain that this was never gonna change.
00:42:07.769 --> 00:42:11.369
And at that moment, that's when I was done.
00:42:11.849 --> 00:42:13.609
Yeah, and you have that disconnect.
00:42:13.769 --> 00:42:17.449
I remember at one point mine asked me, Do you hate me?
00:42:17.609 --> 00:42:21.210
And I looked at him and I thought about it before I answered.
00:42:21.369 --> 00:42:24.250
And I honestly said, I nothing you.
00:42:24.649 --> 00:42:27.449
Like there was just nothing left.
00:42:28.169 --> 00:42:29.210
Yes, you're right.
00:42:29.289 --> 00:42:32.169
You just get to that point, and like it doesn't matter what they do.
00:42:32.409 --> 00:42:40.730
There, they can't push those buttons in any capacity, you know, manipulation, control, they can't make you love them, they can't make you feel sorry for them, they can't make you hate them.
00:42:40.969 --> 00:42:41.929
It's just gone.
00:42:42.250 --> 00:42:52.409
And I liked how my therapist put it after my first situation, my first husband, and that was they killed it, and now we need to give you or give it a Christian burial.
00:42:52.649 --> 00:42:54.169
So it's like, Oh, I like that.
00:42:54.409 --> 00:42:55.449
That's so true.
00:42:55.689 --> 00:42:59.129
It's just let's dig a hole and let's put it in there.
00:43:00.329 --> 00:43:01.689
So, what about you, Lizzie?
00:43:01.849 --> 00:43:05.529
Did you have, I mean, it was a much shorter time frame that you were married.
00:43:06.169 --> 00:43:20.009
Yeah, you know, there was one moment a year or two before the like I left because with a second marriage, because I went through so much trauma in my first, I don't care.
00:43:20.250 --> 00:43:22.809
Like you put me through crap, I'm out.
00:43:22.969 --> 00:43:25.449
I I had a you have a whole different mindset.
00:43:25.529 --> 00:43:30.009
You're just more protective because you're first of all, you know what it's like to live on your own.
00:43:30.089 --> 00:43:31.210
So you're like, I can do it.
00:43:31.289 --> 00:43:32.730
I did it before, I'll do it again.
00:43:32.969 --> 00:43:37.529
Doesn't take away the grief, the pain, the heartache, but it does give you a sense of peace.
00:43:37.689 --> 00:43:42.730
But there was one time right before his oldest daughter's wedding, that we were getting ready to leave.
00:43:42.809 --> 00:43:48.969
So he went to go get the car rental because we were gonna rent a car for this drive to the wedding.
00:43:49.210 --> 00:43:51.849
And then what happened was he left his phone.
00:43:51.929 --> 00:43:58.250
So I picked up the phone, and it was so weird because I see text from other women.
00:43:58.889 --> 00:44:07.689
And in the past, what I've done was I've been able to have access to his phone, he would give me his information, blah, blah, blah.
00:44:08.009 --> 00:44:13.449
But I was able to read all these texts from like three different women.
00:44:13.769 --> 00:44:18.809
And I was just, he walked in and he saw my face and he said, You know, right?
00:44:19.129 --> 00:44:21.289
And I said, Yeah, we're done.
00:44:21.769 --> 00:44:24.169
I was like, at that point, I was done.
00:44:24.250 --> 00:44:26.809
Here we were, getting ready to go to his daughter's wedding.
00:44:26.969 --> 00:44:29.289
And He like followed me around the house.
00:44:29.369 --> 00:44:30.569
I said, just leave me alone.
00:44:30.649 --> 00:44:36.649
Just I mean, I just was so shocked that that that could even happen.
00:44:37.129 --> 00:44:40.409
And I really was at that point, I'm not gonna stay.
00:44:40.569 --> 00:44:42.569
I've been through too much in my first marriage.
00:44:42.730 --> 00:44:44.649
I don't need to go through this again.
00:44:45.049 --> 00:44:48.889
First, then all of a sudden, I obviously I stayed.
00:44:49.369 --> 00:44:54.489
But then when the second time things were getting weird, I left.
00:44:54.809 --> 00:45:01.849
And I think that's why when Dina was telling me everything at that point, it was like, Yeah, I'm I'm not going through this again.
00:45:02.009 --> 00:45:04.649
I've been through so much heartache the first time around.
00:45:05.289 --> 00:45:12.969
I was hurting, I was disgusted, I still dealt with all those emotions, but it was so easier to chop it off.
00:45:13.129 --> 00:45:17.449
It was so much easier the second time than it was the first time, unfortunately.
00:45:17.609 --> 00:45:21.769
I know I had a lot of shame and embarrassment because I thought, how did I get here again?
00:45:22.009 --> 00:45:22.489
Right?
00:45:22.730 --> 00:45:23.929
That was the hardest thing.
00:45:24.250 --> 00:45:27.609
And he would also threaten suicide in both of our relationships.
00:45:27.849 --> 00:45:31.689
That one made it really, really hard when it was like suicide manipulation.
00:45:31.769 --> 00:45:35.929
Yeah, I'm gonna kill myself, you know, I'm I'm gonna kill myself right now.
00:45:36.169 --> 00:45:41.129
I mean, just we went through that trauma too, and that makes it even more crazy.
00:45:41.849 --> 00:45:51.449
Well, I think at that point, when they know that you're leaving or you're on your way out, they pull out all the stops, whatever they can do, whatever they can say to try to keep you where you are.
00:45:51.689 --> 00:45:52.169
I agree.
00:45:52.329 --> 00:45:53.129
I agree, definitely.
00:45:53.210 --> 00:45:56.409
And that's where we always warn women, and you know, especially women.
00:45:56.489 --> 00:46:09.369
I mean, men, men get these kinds of abuse too, but we especially warn women like you need to have a quiet exit strategy because you just don't know how crazy this person can become once they realize they've lost control.
00:46:09.849 --> 00:46:19.529
And so, especially if this person is a gun owner and things like that, or even if they're not, it's really best to start planning, quietly putting away money.
00:46:19.689 --> 00:46:25.449
You know, don't tell anybody unless you know for a fact you can trust them and just make this quiet plan.
00:46:26.329 --> 00:46:30.730
Well, I think that's part of the problem, too, is because you think that you can trust all of these people.
00:46:30.889 --> 00:46:37.369
You have all these people in your circle, and then all of a sudden you realize that they are not your friend.
00:46:37.609 --> 00:46:39.689
They're not on your side.
00:46:39.849 --> 00:46:44.329
Um, and and that makes it difficult too to narrow it down to who can you trust.
00:46:44.489 --> 00:46:47.529
You can't even trust yourself anymore by that, by the time you get to that point.
00:46:47.849 --> 00:46:48.969
That's so true, Ingrid.
00:46:49.049 --> 00:47:06.730
And honestly, after my 27-year relationship, I looked around at my circle and I had so many narcissistic people in my circle as friends that I didn't even realize, you know, until I got out of that relationship, kind of got the fog, you know, out of my head and started looking at things differently.
00:47:06.809 --> 00:47:11.689
Because, you know, I was like, when do they ever even ask me if I'm okay or call me or check on me?
00:47:11.769 --> 00:47:13.609
It's always them, them, them, them, them.
00:47:13.769 --> 00:47:17.369
I'm always serving everybody and pleasing everybody and doing for everybody.
00:47:17.529 --> 00:47:20.250
And there's no give and take in these relationships.
00:47:20.329 --> 00:47:26.329
And so I had to cut people, you know, people out of my life left and right because I was done.
00:47:26.489 --> 00:47:30.169
I wanted people in my life that actually truly did care about me.
00:47:30.889 --> 00:47:39.129
Well, and that's that's what's hard too, is you you go into this relationship and you develop a family around you, a family of actual family and friends.
00:47:39.369 --> 00:47:42.969
And then when you leave the relationship, you're not just losing that one person.
00:47:43.049 --> 00:47:47.289
You are losing so many other people that were such huge parts of your life.
00:47:47.609 --> 00:47:54.969
Well, that's I think there's like layers of grief that you have to go through and allow yourself to go through and things will bubble up.
00:47:55.049 --> 00:48:08.969
Or then in the process, like Dina said, as you cut out of that relationship, the intimate partner, then you start realizing as you're going, like Dina said, the healing, then that's when you start cutting and grieving over that, and grieving over that.
00:48:09.049 --> 00:48:11.049
So yeah, there's definitely layers there.
00:48:11.369 --> 00:48:25.529
Well, yeah, you lose a whole family, you know, you lose a whole family because you know, you have in-laws, they have in-laws, you know, they've all you've all been family, the holidays, you know, and then your kids obviously are part of a family, and now your kids have lost their sense of family.
00:48:25.689 --> 00:48:40.329
I mean, as a mom, it's devastating to think about your kids not having, you know, the traditional family anymore and possibly even blaming you or being angry at you, you know, for leaving or them getting custody, you know.
00:48:40.569 --> 00:48:47.369
It's like all the things go through your head and it it makes it such a difficult decision when you have children, especially.
00:48:48.329 --> 00:48:51.449
Well, and then the healing, and that part isn't easy either.
00:48:51.529 --> 00:48:57.449
And I never want to say that with the intention of telling people just stay where you are because the healing part sucks.
00:48:57.689 --> 00:48:58.409
And it does.
00:48:58.569 --> 00:49:04.089
You're gonna have parts of the healing that suck, and you're going to go, you're going to cry for a variety of reasons.
00:49:04.250 --> 00:49:05.369
You're going to doubt yourself.
00:49:05.449 --> 00:49:08.409
And there are so many things that make it difficult.
00:49:08.569 --> 00:49:11.369
But once you get to the other side, this is one thing.
00:49:11.449 --> 00:49:14.569
It's just such a beautiful view from over here, isn't it?
00:49:14.730 --> 00:49:15.369
Isn't it?
00:49:15.689 --> 00:49:16.489
It is so true.
00:49:16.649 --> 00:49:21.689
And and I think of the grieving, I one of my therapists said, you're in a cocoon right now.
00:49:21.929 --> 00:49:24.889
And I think that's how we have to view the healing process.
00:49:24.969 --> 00:49:29.289
And when you're in a cocoon, you're not around a lot, a lot of people.
00:49:29.609 --> 00:49:34.649
You are kind of like getting to know yourself all over again.
00:49:34.730 --> 00:49:41.129
And you need to be reflective, you need to be willing to walk through the pain because that's part of the grieving process.
00:49:41.210 --> 00:49:46.009
Because some people just kind of put it under the rug and they think they've dealt with it, and then it comes up later on.
00:49:46.250 --> 00:50:02.409
But I think if we can really make the healing process a more personal, beautiful thing of it's okay to be a little isolated for a season to have that time of just, I don't want to say lick your wounds, because that's not really the case.
00:50:02.489 --> 00:50:05.929
It's really, but it is healing and it is reinventing.
00:50:06.009 --> 00:50:08.089
And then you get to the point, like you said, it's beautiful.
00:50:08.169 --> 00:50:13.369
It's like the butterfly coming out, their wings are out, and they're a whole different person.
00:50:13.849 --> 00:50:17.849
And then they start reinventing the areas and the flowers they want to go to.
00:50:18.250 --> 00:50:19.210
That's right.
00:50:19.529 --> 00:50:29.529
Okay, so is there anything else that you think that are important parts of either when you're in the relationship or just beginning the relationship and the throes of it, how to get out, how to heal.
00:50:29.609 --> 00:50:34.730
Is there anything that you think that we haven't touched on that you wanted to mention?
00:50:36.009 --> 00:50:51.609
Um, as far as how to get out and how to heal, I mean, the very first step for anybody out there that's feeling something might be off, something might be wrong, maybe it's not a narcissistic thing, maybe it's not actually toxic, but there's just something wrong.
00:50:51.849 --> 00:50:57.289
The first thing is really paying attention to that voice in you and finding out what it is.
00:50:57.609 --> 00:51:05.049
Do the research, you know, look at patterns, pick up books, pick up anything that can help you to start seeing things clearly.
00:51:05.210 --> 00:51:08.089
Listen to podcasts, YouTube channels, whatever.
00:51:08.169 --> 00:51:15.929
Just get your hands on something and really start looking at patterns and start looking at how you feel when you're with this person.
00:51:16.329 --> 00:51:17.929
Every day won't feel the same.
00:51:18.089 --> 00:51:27.129
Some days they're going to be really kind and loving and warm, but if they can rip that security right out from under you without a thought, that's also something to pay attention to.
00:51:27.289 --> 00:51:30.409
That's the first, the first step is the awareness.
00:51:30.649 --> 00:51:39.049
After that, once you're aware that there's something wrong, now it turns to the point of can this be fixed?
00:51:39.210 --> 00:51:40.250
Can this be remedied?
00:51:40.329 --> 00:51:42.809
You know, what is it and can it be resolved?
00:51:42.969 --> 00:51:55.210
And definitely please have somebody in your life that's a therapist or a really sharp life coach that can keep you accountable to what you're actually seeing and feeling because it's so confusing.
00:51:55.369 --> 00:51:56.569
There's so much fog.
00:51:57.129 --> 00:52:07.210
And at that point, then you can make a decision on whether this is a relationship that is going to stay the way it is, or there's actually hope for that person to get better and change.
00:52:08.649 --> 00:52:17.929
I think one of the things I like to talk about, and I love it when Dina says it or shares about it, but our name, our LLC is the Matadoras.
00:52:18.250 --> 00:52:28.089
And so you think of the Matadoras, she goes into the rink, ring with just her muletta and the wisdom and the knowledge that she has when she faces her bull.
00:52:28.489 --> 00:52:32.969
But who do we have on the outside around in that rink?
00:52:33.210 --> 00:52:40.969
It's you've got family, you've got support groups that could be there for you, you got therapists, you've got so many people that are there.
00:52:41.289 --> 00:52:50.169
But unfortunately, a lot of times when you're in the middle of that fight, in that moment, in that house, and you're facing that person, you feel so alone.
00:52:50.329 --> 00:52:55.129
So, yes, like Dina said, educate yourself, get all the knowledge you can.
00:52:55.289 --> 00:52:58.089
So when you're facing that bull, you know what you're facing.
00:52:58.329 --> 00:53:05.689
And remember one thing: you are not alone, you are not crazy, and you are deeply loved.
00:53:06.169 --> 00:53:07.369
Yeah, that's perfect.
00:53:07.609 --> 00:53:12.809
I do want to say one thing about when Dina, when you mentioned therapy, I think I love therapy.
00:53:12.889 --> 00:53:18.089
I think I think everyone should go to therapy, regardless if you're in a healthy relationship or not a healthy relationship.
00:53:18.250 --> 00:53:35.609
But if you are in this unhealthy relationship and you are looking for some clarification, I would highly suggest to not go to therapy with that abusive partner because they will take that opportunity to reinforce everything that they're doing and still make you look like the bad guy.
00:53:35.689 --> 00:53:42.009
And unless you have a fabulous, very well intuned therapist, they're not going to pick up on it.
00:53:42.089 --> 00:53:47.129
And they're going to actually end up validating the abuser.
00:53:47.529 --> 00:53:56.329
That is, I'm so glad you said that, Ingrid, because I tell you, Lizzie and I see that and hear people tell their stories about that constantly.
00:53:56.649 --> 00:54:08.489
They will bedazzle, they will, you know, gaslight and manipulate and put your therapist in a fog to where they really now aren't sure who's on the wrong side of the fence.
00:54:08.649 --> 00:54:09.369
And you're right.
00:54:09.449 --> 00:54:16.329
And then, of course, now you've got this voice that you are supposed to trust that's telling you this person's okay.
00:54:16.489 --> 00:54:18.809
That happened definitely in my relationship all the time.
00:54:18.969 --> 00:54:24.809
People that I looked up to and trusted that were respected authorities in my life, we would go for couples counseling.
00:54:25.129 --> 00:54:31.689
Then they would tell me that he was just, you know, a little boy that had a bad life and was just acting it out as an adult.
00:54:31.769 --> 00:54:38.169
And there was so much hope for him, and he wanted to be better, and I could help him, you know, as his wife and support him.
00:54:38.409 --> 00:54:39.689
And they're loving it.
00:54:39.929 --> 00:54:40.969
You just need a little bit more.
00:54:41.129 --> 00:54:41.769
Yes, yeah.
00:54:41.929 --> 00:54:42.730
That's exactly right.
00:54:43.769 --> 00:54:44.169
Yeah.
00:54:44.489 --> 00:54:47.129
What are you doing that you can help change him?
00:54:47.289 --> 00:54:48.089
Yeah, no.
00:54:48.649 --> 00:54:49.609
Yep, exactly.
00:54:49.769 --> 00:54:51.689
So that's fantastic advice, Ingrid.
00:54:51.849 --> 00:54:53.049
Thank you for saying that.
00:54:53.529 --> 00:54:55.210
Okay, so you mentioned two books.
00:54:55.369 --> 00:54:56.569
When do they come out?
00:54:57.129 --> 00:54:57.689
Do you know?
00:54:58.009 --> 00:54:58.969
We're not sure yet.
00:54:59.049 --> 00:55:13.849
We're still at the crossroads of are we going to self-publish, which that means they would be out in a couple of months, or are we going to we have a publisher that is potentially interested in in publishing our books, but it's a hybrid publishing, so that costs quite a bit of money.
00:55:14.009 --> 00:55:19.529
And you know, we don't do this for money, so we don't have we don't have money rolling in that we can just go pay, you know, 10 grand.
00:55:20.250 --> 00:55:23.689
So, you know, it's gonna depend on which way that goes.
00:55:23.769 --> 00:55:28.489
But I expect in the next few months, you know, you'll be hearing about something.
00:55:28.730 --> 00:55:30.089
And we'll definitely have it.
00:55:30.169 --> 00:55:32.409
It'll be on Amazon, you know, it'll be ready to go.
00:55:32.489 --> 00:55:34.569
Both books will be on Amazon and ready to go.
00:55:34.730 --> 00:55:37.929
And y'all like pristine, perfect.
00:55:39.049 --> 00:55:46.089
Okay, and you already mentioned your podcast and some links and stuff, but could you say that one more time if anybody wants to follow along with you guys?
00:55:46.409 --> 00:55:51.929
We are surviving toxic relationships with the Matadoras.
00:55:52.089 --> 00:55:57.289
But if you just type in surviving toxic relationships, you should find us because it's just a picture of us.
00:55:57.529 --> 00:55:59.369
We are our little logo.
00:55:59.769 --> 00:56:01.049
So there you go.
00:56:01.210 --> 00:56:01.449
Yeah.
00:56:01.689 --> 00:56:07.529
And there were, you know, YouTube, public Facebook, and our podcasts are on all the platforms.
00:56:07.609 --> 00:56:08.730
So we're pretty easy to find.
00:56:08.969 --> 00:56:09.609
Okay, perfect.
00:56:09.769 --> 00:56:18.809
Now I know you guys have already said really um important things, but is there anything else that a lasting word of wisdom or encouragement that you want to leave with listeners?
00:56:19.929 --> 00:56:38.169
I think one thing I would say, just any any healing or if you've been a victim of anything, there's a normal time of going through the the the as a victim, and then you go through the anger phase, but really find what you can do to thrive.
00:56:38.329 --> 00:56:40.649
Don't stay there, don't stay angry.
00:56:40.889 --> 00:56:49.449
It's you know that you've healed if you're not angry, and if you don't walk around like you're still the victim three years later.
00:56:49.769 --> 00:56:55.210
And I think that you'll find that if you find numbness about that, that's probably a good thing.
00:56:55.369 --> 00:56:57.049
It means you're on a good place.
00:56:58.009 --> 00:57:03.609
Yeah, and I think I would just the last thing I would say is always trust yourself, always trust your gut.
00:57:03.929 --> 00:57:13.210
You may not know what it's telling you, you may not know what it means, you may not understand, and it's easy for someone to talk you out of it.
00:57:13.449 --> 00:57:24.089
But if that feeling in your body or in your nervous system, or even these thoughts that keep coming in your brain, if they keep recurring, pay attention to them.
00:57:24.250 --> 00:57:26.250
It would just be like a physical symptom, okay?
00:57:26.329 --> 00:57:36.809
If you kept having this pain in your abdomen and you could kind of, you know, put hot packs on it and rest and get it to go away, but then it kept recurring, you're going to finally realize that something's wrong.
00:57:37.049 --> 00:57:44.329
Please pay attention to that because that is most of the time your best and earliest sign that something is off.
00:57:44.569 --> 00:57:57.210
And you can save yourself a lot of really wasted and painful years by addressing that thing, that feeling that something's wrong, or you're feeling in pain, or you're feeling confused.
00:57:57.849 --> 00:58:06.250
Um anything you're feeling that isn't complete happiness and joy to be with this person, you've got to get that checked out.
00:58:07.129 --> 00:58:08.169
Yeah, absolutely.
00:58:08.329 --> 00:58:09.689
Well, thank you so much, Dina.
00:58:09.769 --> 00:58:11.210
Thank you so much, Lizzie, for coming on.
00:58:11.289 --> 00:58:12.569
Thank you for your podcast.
00:58:12.730 --> 00:58:17.529
I love that you guys have joined forces and are tackling this topic.
00:58:17.609 --> 00:58:19.849
It's so incredibly important for people to hear.
00:58:19.929 --> 00:58:22.089
And I'm so appreciative of your time.
00:58:22.409 --> 00:58:23.369
Thank you, Ingrid.
00:58:23.609 --> 00:58:24.489
It was such a delight.
00:58:24.569 --> 00:58:26.409
We enjoyed ourselves.
00:58:28.569 --> 00:58:31.689
Thank you again, Dina and Lizzie, for joining me today.
00:58:31.849 --> 00:58:34.489
And thank you, Warriors, for listening.
00:58:34.649 --> 00:58:39.449
