Gateway Church Robert Morris Shocking New Sex Offender Photo — The Bigger Story Behind the Black Eye

Former Gateway Church pastor Robert Morris is back in the news after a new Texas sex offender registry photo showed him with a severely blackened eye and visible facial injuries. According to his attorney, Morris passed out and fell in his garage, striking a car door and concrete floor and suffering three broken bones in his face. But the black eye is only the beginning of this story. In this video, we look at the larger story behind the photograph and how Robert Morris went from founding and leading Gateway Church—one of America's most influential megachurches—to becoming a convicted felon and registered sex offender. We also revisit the story of Cindy Clemishire, who says the abuse began when she was just 12 years old, Robert Morris' 2024 resignation from Gateway Church, his 2025 guilty plea to five felony counts of lewd or indecent acts with a child, his six months in jail, probation, and the continuing fallout surrounding Gateway Church. More importantly, we examine what the Robert Morris scandal can teach Christians about sexual abuse, church accountability, celebrity pastor culture, repentance, forgiveness, consequences, and protecting vulnerable people. The black eye may be what brought Robert Morris back into the headlines, but the much bigger question is: How did one of America's most powerful pastors end up on a sex offender registry—and what should the church learn from it?
