이 에피소드에 관해
Phyllis Wheatley was born in either Gambia or Senegal. She was sold by a local African trader to a European slave trader then she was sold to a colonial Massachusetts slave trader and brought back to the colonies and purchased at the Slave market auction block - close to Boston’s well known Faneuil Hall by a well to do Boston Massachusetts family on July 11, 1761.
The ship was owned by Timothy Fitch and captained by Peter Gwinn, both known Massachusetts slavers. Their business was to buy and transport newly purchased bondsmen and women from the African coast to the British West Indian and American colonial plantations.
Negros, rum, molasses, lumber, sugar, cacao, cotton, guns, iron and woven cloth were the main items of trade.
Phyllis was one of millions of victims of that infamous Triangle.
In this episode we talk about the trade....
