This week on Sunday Edition, Anthony Corona welcomes actress, web developer, entrepreneur, and self-proclaimed nerd Melissa Archer for a deeply personal, revealing, and sometimes wonderfully unexpected conversation about neuroscience, resilience, emotional well-being, and the remarkable possibilities of learning to think differently.

Of course, millions of daytime television fans know Melissa from her unforgettable performances as Natalie Buchanan on One Life to Live and Serena Mason on Days of Our Lives.

We spend a little time revisiting her career, but this conversation takes us somewhere very different.

For the full exploration of Melissa's acting career, memorable characters, and experiences in daytime television, we encourage listeners to enjoy our earlier Next Generation Entertainment Soaps special, A Dramatic Evening with Melissa Archer.

This time, we're going beyond the characters and behind the curtain.

We're talking about the woman herself.

The creator.

The thinker.

The woman who found herself asking difficult questions about her own mind and ultimately decided to do something with the answers she was discovering.

And yes, we discovered something else along the way.

We share a mutual love of Stuart Smalley, the unforgettable Saturday Night Live character whose daily affirmations reminded us that we are good enough, smart enough, and, doggone it, people like us!

There is plenty of laughter in this conversation.

But there is also a remarkable amount of truth beneath the humor.

Because sometimes the most difficult conversations we have are the ones taking place inside our own heads.

TWO DIFFERENT JOURNEYS. SOME REMARKABLY SIMILAR DISCOVERIES.

Melissa opens up about anxiety, performance, neurodivergence, confidence, difficult auditions, and some of the deeply personal experiences that led her to examine how her brain responds to the world.

She shares intimate details about challenging periods in her life, the emotional patterns she began recognizing, and the questions that eventually led her to explore neuroscience, neuroplasticity, and the practice of reframing our thoughts.

Anthony comes to this conversation from a very different journey, including the experience of sudden blindness and the continuing process of learning, adapting, and discovering who he wants to become.

Different lives.

Different circumstances.

Different reasons for asking some of the same questions.

Yet both have found themselves exploring the possibility that some of our most familiar reactions can be challenged, reconsidered, and gradually reshaped.

What happens when we recognize an automatic response before acting on it?

Can we learn to approach an uncomfortable situation differently?

How much of what we tell ourselves is based on what is happening today, and how much comes from experiences we have carried for years?

And how do we begin changing those patterns without pretending that the difficult things we have experienced never happened?

These are not abstract questions for either of us.

They are part of our lives.

FROM PERSONAL DISCOVERY TO NEUROREWIRE

Melissa's journey eventually led her to create NeuroRewire: Rewire & Reframe, an app designed to help people recognize negative thought patterns, practice reframing, and develop a more intentional relationship with their thoughts and emotional responses.

Drawing upon concepts associated with neuroscience and behavioral practices, the app introduces exercises involving breathing, emotional labeling, positive evidence, affirmations, reflection, and repetition.

But this is not simply a conversation about technology.

It's about the personal experiences that inspired the technology.

Melissa shares what led her to begin researching these ideas, how her background as a developer helped her turn those discoveries into something practical, and why creating NeuroRewire became such a meaningful project.

Perhaps most importantly, she explains why she wanted the app to remain free.

Not a brief trial that eventually demands payment.

Not a collection of essential features hidden behind a subscription.

A tool people could download, explore, and use without a financial barrier.

An optional tip jar allows people to support the project, but the app itself is free.

For Melissa, making these tools available to people matters.

And for Anthony, who approaches technology through the lived experience of blindness, that commitment opens an important conversation about accessibility, inclusion, and the different barriers people encounter when searching for useful resources.

ANTHONY'S OWN 30-DAY JOURNEY

Anthony has been using NeuroRewire for a little over 30 days.

And he has noticed a difference.

A real difference.

In his initial reactions.

In his response times.

In the way he processes certain thoughts, emotions, and situations before deciding what to do with them.

He's learning to recognize familiar patterns, question automatic responses, and give himself an opportunity to choose another approach.

Does that mean he has suddenly figured everything out?

Of course not!

But the experience has encouraged him to keep exploring what it means to become more of the person he wants to be.

NeuroRewire has become another useful tool in that personal toolbox.

And that is an important distinction.

Neither Melissa nor Anthony is suggesting that an app can magically solve life's problems, erase trauma, or replace individualized mental health care when it is needed.

This is about exploring practical exercises, practicing new habits, and recognizing that meaningful change can take patience, consistency, and time.

Sometimes the first step is simply noticing what is happening inside our minds before deciding how to respond.

And sometimes that small moment of awareness can open the door to something bigger.

THE CONVERSATION CONTINUES

We also discuss what Melissa hopes people will discover through NeuroRewire, the importance of making wellness resources approachable, and what she has learned about herself through the process of creating something intended to help others.

And we want to invite you into this exploration.

Download NeuroRewire.

Give it two weeks.

Explore the exercises.

Spend some time with the process.

Then come back and tell us what you discovered.

Did you notice anything about your automatic reactions?

Did certain exercises resonate with you?

Were there things that worked particularly well?

What didn't work?

And what questions would you like us to explore in future conversations?

Everyone's experience will be different, and we are interested in hearing those experiences, including the challenges and the questions.

Sunday Edition has more planned in our Mind Wellness arena, including personal conversations, practical resources, and Tech Spotlight explorations of technology that may help us better understand ourselves and the world around us.

Because this is not the end of a conversation.

It is another beginning.

Join Anthony Corona and Melissa Archer for an intimate, thought-provoking, and occasionally hilarious exploration of the human mind, the stories we tell ourselves, and the possibilities that emerge when we begin asking whether those stories can change.

And somewhere along the way, don't be surprised if Stuart Smalley makes another appearance!

After all, perhaps learning to believe in ourselves is one of the most interesting journeys we can take.
