Deinstitutionalizing Daily Life: Why Creative Healing Matters

So many of us—especially those late-diagnosed neurodivergent or long estranged from our creative roots—have been taught to mistrust our intuitions. Institutional frameworks, from rigid school systems to the commodified world of clinical practice, too often encourage a kind of gaslighting: dimming intuitive wisdom in favor of logic, hierarchy, and endless productivity.

Sarah and I each navigated this terrain—her as a clinical social worker, myself as an occupational therapist—before stepping outside to honor our fuller, wilder selves. Our stories echo a common longing:To find spaces where trauma-informed care, creative expression, and community belong together.

This is not about bypassing the hard work of healing. Rather, it’s about remembering that arts-based, intuitive practices—tarot, human design, folk craft—were once medicine in themselves. Long before they were sidelined by the “hard sciences,” these folkways helped people process grief, mark seasons, and reconnect with their existential sovereignty.

The Power of Intuitive Practice: Human Design as a Mirror

One soft portal we explored was human design—a nuanced synthesis of ancient wisdom and modern insight. Both Sarah and I found this system not as a rigid prescription, but as a nuanced mirror. As Sarah explained, human design isn’t here to create new gurus, but to invite you into a deeper, self-led trust. Even the places where you feel open and vulnerable in your chart can become sources of wisdom, rather than shame.

Our conversation highlighted how learning your unique energetic blueprint can be healing for those who’ve felt pathologized or out-of-step with mainstream norms. There is a gentle liberation in discovering that your sensitivities, intuitive nudges, and energetic cycles are not “problems”—they’re part of a sacred ecology.

Reframing the People Pleaser: From Survival to Empowered Collaboration

A vital part of the journey is making visible the parts of us shaped by survival. Many of us, especially those carrying trauma or social difference, have learned to be people pleasers—to compromise our voice to stay safe, loved, or visible in systems that weren’t built for us.Sarah’s wisdom here was an invitation: What if those very places where you’ve dimmed yourself are seeds of possibility? What if reclamation means celebrating your “too muchness,” your intuitive weirdness, your wild sensitivity?

As we learn to commune with our intuition and creativity, we can shift from lonely solo walks to empowered collaboration—choosing community, mutual support, and creative reciprocity over isolation.

Soft Openings: Gentle Invitations Into Practice

The Invitation: Reclaim Your Creative Threshold

To all creative misfits, gentle rebels, and neurodivergent mystics:Your intuition is not a flaw, but a compass. Your creative blocks are not proof of failure, but portals into deeper becoming. Our collective liberation blooms when we gather, remember, and create together—outside the bounds of old systems and into the soft summer light of what’s yet to come.

The campfire is lit.Come, reclaim your place in the circle.Presence over perfection—always.

About Rewilding the Mythic Self with Josephine Patricia

Welcome to Rewilding the Mythic Self—a podcast and blog portal for soul-led seekers, visionary misfits, and ancestral cycle-breakers ready to reclaim their creative sovereignty, spiritual autonomy, and mythic truth beyond systems of silence.

Hosted by Dr. Josephine Patricia Jarvis, this space is a ceremonial hearth where neurodivergent leaders, recovering over-givers, and repressed mystics gather to unearth the stories, symbols, and soulwork that awaken their deepest knowing. Through poetic storytelling, folk wisdom, trauma-informed reflections, and liberatory conversations, we remember: you are not broken—you’ve been conditioned.

Here, we spiral through the sacred mess of rewilding. We compost performance, perfectionism, and institutional entanglement to grow something more ancient and alive.

Each episode and blog post is an invitation to:

* Trust your creative and emotional impulses as holy guides

* Remember the ancestral threads you carry in your body

* Liberate your inner shapeshifter, oracle, artist, and rebel

* Practice visibility as a devotional act, not a demand

* Rebuild your life in rhythm with your soul—not systems

This is not self-help. This is soul retrieval.

Because the path forward isn’t linear—it’s mythic.

🌿 If this conversation stirred something ancient in you, I invite you to subscribe to Rewilding the Mythic Self on Substack—my digital hearth for soul-led reflections, mythic storytelling, and liberatory conversations.
