You drove home replaying a comment that was “just a joke.” Someone close to you gets a little sharper every time
your life gets better — and you’re starting to wonder if you’re the problem.
You’re not. Here’s what’s actually happening, and what to do about it without blowing up the relationship.

This episode is about the person who needs you to stay small. It is not a diagnosis, and Leslie is direct about why: a label becomes a place to hide, and you end up spending all your energy proving what they are and none of it on what you need to do. So instead, patterns — five of them. Your joy reads as a threat. They correct you, always wrapped in “I’m just being honest.” They devalue the person who makes you happy. They invite you back into who you used to be, which isn’t nostalgia, it’s recruitment. And the one that tells you everything: how you feel after you leave.
Then the harder question — why your happiness bothers them at all. Their comments aren’t a map of your flaws.
They’re a map of their discomfort. Every relationship has unspoken rules and a role for each person, and when you heal, you stop playing your part. Harriet Lerner named the response decades ago: change-back reactions. Nobody says “change back.” They say “you’ve changed,” like it’s a crime.
This matters more than venting. Decades of research on couples and their social circles — including a 16-year study
of married couples — found that the negative side of friendship, disapproval and interference, predicted divorce
more strongly than the supportive side protected against it. Someone chipping away at the person you love is
applying pressure, and pressure works.
Leslie shares that she is living a version of this right now, from both sides: the person who changed and heard
“you’ve changed,” and the partner watching someone she loves do brave, hard work while others pull at the
threads of it. What she’s had to learn — you can’t out-kind someone’s envy.
The last third is practical: trust the aftertaste, take your joy to people who can hold it, stop defending what they
criticize, right-size the relationship instead of ending it, what to do when it’s your partner’s friend, and how to
build a circle that roots for you.
For anyone who has been told they’ve changed like it was an accusation.

00:00:00.080 --> 00:00:01.590
Have you ever noticed that the better
00:00:01.600 --> 00:00:04.309
your life gets, the meaner one
00:00:04.319 --> 00:00:08.790
particular person becomes? Not openly.
00:00:08.800 --> 00:00:10.709
Never in a way that you could even
00:00:10.719 --> 00:00:12.230
screenshot.
00:00:12.240 --> 00:00:13.910
A little comment about what you're
00:00:13.920 --> 00:00:18.230
wearing, a joke about your relationship
00:00:18.240 --> 00:00:21.830
that doesn't quite feel like a joke,
00:00:21.840 --> 00:00:25.670
a you've changed that lands like an
00:00:25.680 --> 00:00:27.429
accusation instead of something
00:00:27.439 --> 00:00:29.509
positive.
00:00:29.519 --> 00:00:31.830
Maybe you drive home replaying it,
00:00:31.840 --> 00:00:35.110
wondering if maybe you're the problem.
00:00:35.120 --> 00:00:39.430
You're not. Today, I'm talking about the
00:00:39.440 --> 00:00:42.389
person who needs you to stay small, why
00:00:42.399 --> 00:00:45.590
they do it, why men and women who are
00:00:45.600 --> 00:00:47.830
sensitive and empathetic keep them
00:00:47.840 --> 00:00:52.150
close, and what it quietly does to your
00:00:52.160 --> 00:00:54.549
healing, even maybe your therapeutic
00:00:54.559 --> 00:00:57.910
journey, and to your love. I'm Lesie
00:00:57.920 --> 00:01:01.189
Matthews. This is pulling threads and
00:01:01.199 --> 00:01:03.750
welcome to the episode.
00:01:03.760 --> 00:01:06.469
I don't diagnose people that I've
00:01:06.479 --> 00:01:08.630
haven't sat with and I'm going to gently
00:01:08.640 --> 00:01:10.950
ask that you don't either. Not because
00:01:10.960 --> 00:01:13.590
the word narcissist is wrong. Sometimes
00:01:13.600 --> 00:01:16.390
it's spot-on and we definitely have an
00:01:16.400 --> 00:01:19.910
epidemic of it. But a label can turn
00:01:19.920 --> 00:01:22.870
into a place to hide and we spend all of
00:01:22.880 --> 00:01:25.749
our energy proving what they are and
00:01:25.759 --> 00:01:28.550
none of it on what we need to do. So
00:01:28.560 --> 00:01:30.390
that's not what this episode is about
00:01:30.400 --> 00:01:32.310
today. I'm going to talk about patterns
00:01:32.320 --> 00:01:35.429
and you'll know if they fit someone in
00:01:35.439 --> 00:01:41.270
your life. The first one is your joy is
00:01:41.280 --> 00:01:43.109
a threat.
00:01:43.119 --> 00:01:45.429
You share good news and something shifts
00:01:45.439 --> 00:01:47.910
on their face. The more you share, the
00:01:47.920 --> 00:01:50.710
more they criticize. Your promotion gets
00:01:50.720 --> 00:01:53.990
a must be nice. Your happy weekend gets
00:01:54.000 --> 00:01:57.830
a story about how that never lasts. The
00:01:57.840 --> 00:01:59.830
shoes always going to the other shoe is
00:01:59.840 --> 00:02:02.709
always going to drop. The second thing
00:02:02.719 --> 00:02:06.389
is they correct you. what you wear, what
00:02:06.399 --> 00:02:09.749
you order, how you spend your money, who
00:02:09.759 --> 00:02:13.030
loves you, and it always comes wrapped
00:02:13.040 --> 00:02:16.309
in a I'm just being honest or I'm only
00:02:16.319 --> 00:02:19.350
saying this because I care.
00:02:19.360 --> 00:02:21.430
Those comments, especially when they
00:02:21.440 --> 00:02:23.510
come when you're in a time of really
00:02:23.520 --> 00:02:25.670
trying to self-improve,
00:02:25.680 --> 00:02:28.150
hit really hard, even if we don't
00:02:28.160 --> 00:02:30.309
realize it in the moment. So, if you're
00:02:30.319 --> 00:02:33.430
out to eat with someone and you order a
00:02:33.440 --> 00:02:35.350
chicken Caesar salad because you're
00:02:35.360 --> 00:02:37.190
being health conscious and taking care
00:02:37.200 --> 00:02:38.869
of yourself,
00:02:38.879 --> 00:02:42.630
um, and they order a giant cheeseburger,
00:02:42.640 --> 00:02:45.750
which I love, and then comment
00:02:45.760 --> 00:02:47.670
negatively about you ordering this
00:02:47.680 --> 00:02:49.110
salad. That's what we're talking about
00:02:49.120 --> 00:02:52.390
here. people who observe you doing
00:02:52.400 --> 00:02:55.350
something to improve your life or
00:02:55.360 --> 00:02:58.550
observe your life improving in some way
00:02:58.560 --> 00:03:02.070
and they need to make a negative out of
00:03:02.080 --> 00:03:05.190
it. The third thing is they devalue the
00:03:05.200 --> 00:03:08.229
people who make you happy. And this is
00:03:08.239 --> 00:03:11.589
really hard because a lot of times it's
00:03:11.599 --> 00:03:15.110
when you finally are showing up really
00:03:15.120 --> 00:03:17.670
healthy in a healthy relationship and
00:03:17.680 --> 00:03:19.990
they're not. So, they might say, "I
00:03:20.000 --> 00:03:21.670
don't see what you see in her." Or,
00:03:21.680 --> 00:03:25.670
"He's not really your type." Or, "I just
00:03:25.680 --> 00:03:28.550
don't find her attractive." That's all.
00:03:28.560 --> 00:03:32.710
It's said casually, but it's not always
00:03:32.720 --> 00:03:34.309
casual.
00:03:34.319 --> 00:03:37.030
The fourth thing, they invite you back
00:03:37.040 --> 00:03:40.149
into who you used to be. Remember when
00:03:40.159 --> 00:03:42.789
we used to? Come on, one night won't
00:03:42.799 --> 00:03:46.390
kill you. You used to be fun.
00:03:46.400 --> 00:03:49.830
That isn't nostalgia. It's recruitment.
00:03:49.840 --> 00:03:52.149
You've grown
00:03:52.159 --> 00:03:54.789
and they haven't and they don't want you
00:03:54.799 --> 00:03:58.390
to outgrow them. The fifth thing, the
00:03:58.400 --> 00:04:00.789
one that tells you everything,
00:04:00.799 --> 00:04:03.670
how you feel afterward, if you leave
00:04:03.680 --> 00:04:06.390
feeling smaller, tired in a way that
00:04:06.400 --> 00:04:08.070
doesn't make sense, if you're
00:04:08.080 --> 00:04:09.990
secondguessing a decision that you felt
00:04:10.000 --> 00:04:13.350
good about an hour ago, your body
00:04:13.360 --> 00:04:15.589
usually knows before your mind is ready
00:04:15.599 --> 00:04:19.189
to admit it. So listen to your body.
00:04:19.199 --> 00:04:21.189
Let's talk about why your happiness
00:04:21.199 --> 00:04:24.710
really bothers them. And here's what I
00:04:24.720 --> 00:04:26.230
want you to understand. Their comments
00:04:26.240 --> 00:04:28.790
aren't a map of your flaws. They're not
00:04:28.800 --> 00:04:32.870
true. They're a map of their discomfort.
00:04:32.880 --> 00:04:35.830
It's not personal. It's about them. When
00:04:35.840 --> 00:04:38.390
someone isn't happy in their own life,
00:04:38.400 --> 00:04:40.310
maybe their own relationship, maybe
00:04:40.320 --> 00:04:43.350
their own body, maybe their own choices,
00:04:43.360 --> 00:04:44.870
they're not proud of the choices they're
00:04:44.880 --> 00:04:47.510
making. Your happiness can feel like a
00:04:47.520 --> 00:04:51.430
mirror and not a kind one. Your growth
00:04:51.440 --> 00:04:53.590
says change is possible. And if change
00:04:53.600 --> 00:04:56.310
is possible, then they have to ask
00:04:56.320 --> 00:04:59.030
themselves why they aren't changing.
00:04:59.040 --> 00:05:01.590
It's much easier to put you back down
00:05:01.600 --> 00:05:04.469
than to climb themselves.
00:05:04.479 --> 00:05:07.110
There's also something quieter going on.
00:05:07.120 --> 00:05:09.909
Every relationship has unspoken rules
00:05:09.919 --> 00:05:12.710
and a role for each person. Maybe your
00:05:12.720 --> 00:05:15.990
role was the one who struggled, the one
00:05:16.000 --> 00:05:18.230
who needed advice, the one who made them
00:05:18.240 --> 00:05:20.390
feel like they had their life put
00:05:20.400 --> 00:05:23.430
together. And now you've done the work.
00:05:23.440 --> 00:05:25.430
Maybe you've gone to therapy or you've
00:05:25.440 --> 00:05:28.150
got a coach or whatever you're doing to
00:05:28.160 --> 00:05:31.749
improve your situation.
00:05:31.759 --> 00:05:34.790
When you heal, you stop playing your
00:05:34.800 --> 00:05:36.310
part.
00:05:36.320 --> 00:05:38.469
The author Harriet Learner wrote about
00:05:38.479 --> 00:05:40.710
this years ago.
00:05:40.720 --> 00:05:43.590
When one person in a system starts to
00:05:43.600 --> 00:05:45.909
change, the system pushes back. She
00:05:45.919 --> 00:05:49.430
called them change back reactions.
00:05:49.440 --> 00:05:51.350
People don't usually say change back.
00:05:51.360 --> 00:05:54.310
They say you've changed. They say it
00:05:54.320 --> 00:05:56.629
almost like you're it's a crime that
00:05:56.639 --> 00:05:59.029
you've changed. And this is why it
00:05:59.039 --> 00:06:01.189
matters so much. Research researchers
00:06:01.199 --> 00:06:03.430
have studied couples and their friends
00:06:03.440 --> 00:06:05.990
for decades. And relationships don't
00:06:06.000 --> 00:06:09.670
live in a vacuum. So, sociologist Diane
00:06:09.680 --> 00:06:12.469
Felmley has a paper whose title says it
00:06:12.479 --> 00:06:15.670
all. No couple is an island. When
00:06:15.680 --> 00:06:18.469
friends when friends approve of a
00:06:18.479 --> 00:06:21.350
relationship, it tends to last longer. A
00:06:21.360 --> 00:06:23.749
large metaanalysis found the same thing.
00:06:23.759 --> 00:06:26.469
How we believe our circle feels about
00:06:26.479 --> 00:06:29.189
our partner predicts whether the
00:06:29.199 --> 00:06:31.990
relationship survives.
00:06:32.000 --> 00:06:34.390
And a 16-year study of married couples
00:06:34.400 --> 00:06:36.550
found that the negative pieces of
00:06:36.560 --> 00:06:39.990
friendship disapproval interference
00:06:40.000 --> 00:06:42.469
predict a divorce more strongly than the
00:06:42.479 --> 00:06:45.350
supportive pieces protected against it.
00:06:45.360 --> 00:06:47.510
So when someone keeps chipping at the
00:06:47.520 --> 00:06:49.990
person you love, it isn't harmless
00:06:50.000 --> 00:06:51.590
venting.
00:06:51.600 --> 00:06:53.430
It's pressure.
00:06:53.440 --> 00:06:56.469
Slow, steady pressure. And it works on
00:06:56.479 --> 00:06:58.710
good people more often than we'd like to
00:06:58.720 --> 00:07:02.550
admit, including me. I've experienced
00:07:02.560 --> 00:07:06.070
this from both sides. I've experienced
00:07:06.080 --> 00:07:09.670
being the person that changed
00:07:09.680 --> 00:07:13.189
and getting that feedback like you've
00:07:13.199 --> 00:07:16.629
changed. But I've also been the partner
00:07:16.639 --> 00:07:19.189
of someone who is changing and who is
00:07:19.199 --> 00:07:22.070
evolving, who's gotten the push back.
00:07:22.080 --> 00:07:24.070
And I'll be honest with you, I'm
00:07:24.080 --> 00:07:26.070
watching a version of this right now
00:07:26.080 --> 00:07:28.950
close enough to my own life that I feel
00:07:28.960 --> 00:07:31.189
it. And knowing these statistics and
00:07:31.199 --> 00:07:34.629
knowing the what the research says makes
00:07:34.639 --> 00:07:37.270
it all the more unnerving. I'm not going
00:07:37.280 --> 00:07:39.430
to share the details. Some stories are
00:07:39.440 --> 00:07:41.430
protected precisely because we don't
00:07:41.440 --> 00:07:44.790
tell them. Um, it's a boundary and
00:07:44.800 --> 00:07:46.950
boundaries are part of this episode,
00:07:46.960 --> 00:07:49.589
too. But I want to tell you what it
00:07:49.599 --> 00:07:51.430
feels like.
00:07:51.440 --> 00:07:54.390
It is its own particular ache to watch
00:07:54.400 --> 00:07:58.070
someone you love do brave hard healing
00:07:58.080 --> 00:08:01.589
work and then watch other people who are
00:08:01.599 --> 00:08:05.909
supposed to be on their side pull at the
00:08:05.919 --> 00:08:10.710
threads of it every time
00:08:10.720 --> 00:08:13.909
they make a huge leap forward. And I'll
00:08:13.919 --> 00:08:16.790
tell you what I've had to learn. I can't
00:08:16.800 --> 00:08:20.550
outind someone's envy. I can't dress
00:08:20.560 --> 00:08:23.189
well enough or be pleasant enough or be
00:08:23.199 --> 00:08:25.909
patient enough to earn my way out of
00:08:25.919 --> 00:08:29.749
someone else's need to diminish me or
00:08:29.759 --> 00:08:34.790
the person I love. And neither can you.
00:08:34.800 --> 00:08:37.909
So why do many of us thoughtful,
00:08:37.919 --> 00:08:40.790
empathetic, educated people keep people
00:08:40.800 --> 00:08:44.230
like this in our inner circle for years?
00:08:44.240 --> 00:08:46.470
Here's what I see in my practice and in
00:08:46.480 --> 00:08:48.310
my own life.
00:08:48.320 --> 00:08:50.790
We were trained many times to keep the
00:08:50.800 --> 00:08:53.190
peace. Many of us grew up reading the
00:08:53.200 --> 00:08:55.910
room before we read a book. We learned
00:08:55.920 --> 00:08:57.990
that if we could anticipate someone's
00:08:58.000 --> 00:09:01.350
mood and manage it, we'd be safe.
00:09:01.360 --> 00:09:03.350
Trauma therapist Pete Walker called this
00:09:03.360 --> 00:09:07.030
the fawn response. Staying safe by
00:09:07.040 --> 00:09:09.829
pleasing. And a person who needs to be
00:09:09.839 --> 00:09:13.670
managed feels familiar. Familiar can
00:09:13.680 --> 00:09:16.070
feel a lot like home.
00:09:16.080 --> 00:09:19.190
We shape shift to keep other people
00:09:19.200 --> 00:09:21.750
comfortable. And think about it, they
00:09:21.760 --> 00:09:23.590
comment on your clothes, so you dress
00:09:23.600 --> 00:09:26.070
down around them. They roll their eyes
00:09:26.080 --> 00:09:28.710
at your good news, so you stop sharing
00:09:28.720 --> 00:09:31.829
it. They mock your therapy, so you stop
00:09:31.839 --> 00:09:34.470
mentioning it. Little by little, you're
00:09:34.480 --> 00:09:36.790
editing yourself, not because of who you
00:09:36.800 --> 00:09:38.870
are, because of what makes them
00:09:38.880 --> 00:09:42.870
uncomfortable. We confuse loyalty
00:09:42.880 --> 00:09:45.509
with endurance. We've been friends for
00:09:45.519 --> 00:09:48.310
20 years and that history is real and it
00:09:48.320 --> 00:09:50.230
matters. But the longevity isn't the
00:09:50.240 --> 00:09:52.870
same as safety. You're allowed to love
00:09:52.880 --> 00:09:56.470
someone's history and stop handing them
00:09:56.480 --> 00:10:00.470
your present.
00:10:00.480 --> 00:10:03.829
Think about that for a minute.
00:10:03.839 --> 00:10:07.430
Cuz healing isn't just insight. It's
00:10:07.440 --> 00:10:09.990
repetition. You're teaching your nervous
00:10:10.000 --> 00:10:12.710
system a new way to be more open, more
00:10:12.720 --> 00:10:15.509
confident, more you. And that takes
00:10:15.519 --> 00:10:17.910
practice in real life around real
00:10:17.920 --> 00:10:21.030
people. Now, picture someone who every
00:10:21.040 --> 00:10:23.430
week rewards the old version of you and
00:10:23.440 --> 00:10:26.470
punishes the new one.
00:10:26.480 --> 00:10:28.870
You try a new boundary, they call you
00:10:28.880 --> 00:10:31.190
cold. You wear the thing you feel
00:10:31.200 --> 00:10:33.829
beautiful in, they have a comment,
00:10:33.839 --> 00:10:35.670
you're happy, and they get a little
00:10:35.680 --> 00:10:37.190
meaner.
00:10:37.200 --> 00:10:39.990
Your body learns fast. It learns that
00:10:40.000 --> 00:10:42.630
growth is dangerous, that joy should be
00:10:42.640 --> 00:10:45.829
hidden, that the safest thing is to stay
00:10:45.839 --> 00:10:47.350
small.
00:10:47.360 --> 00:10:49.590
And then we wonder why the progress we
00:10:49.600 --> 00:10:51.829
make in therapy doesn't stick, why we
00:10:51.839 --> 00:10:55.430
feel so good on Tuesday and so shaky by
00:10:55.440 --> 00:10:58.230
Saturday or Sunday. It's not that you're
00:10:58.240 --> 00:11:00.310
failing at healing, it's that you're
00:11:00.320 --> 00:11:03.269
healing uphill.
00:11:03.279 --> 00:11:05.509
And many people blame this on themselves
00:11:05.519 --> 00:11:07.110
and say, "I'm just such a people
00:11:07.120 --> 00:11:08.630
pleaser."
00:11:08.640 --> 00:11:11.269
Well, the evidence
00:11:11.279 --> 00:11:14.550
that it's safe, unsafe to grow, is
00:11:14.560 --> 00:11:17.829
there. So yes, you are a people pleaser
00:11:17.839 --> 00:11:20.790
and you're trying to overcome that. But
00:11:20.800 --> 00:11:22.630
the people that you're surrounding
00:11:22.640 --> 00:11:26.310
yourself with, if they are these people,
00:11:26.320 --> 00:11:29.110
may be teaching you the very thing
00:11:29.120 --> 00:11:31.750
you're trying to tell yourself isn't
00:11:31.760 --> 00:11:34.389
true.
00:11:34.399 --> 00:11:36.310
So this doesn't mean you have to blow up
00:11:36.320 --> 00:11:38.630
every relationship to protect yourself.
00:11:38.640 --> 00:11:40.310
Some of these people are maybe
00:11:40.320 --> 00:11:43.350
co-workers. Some are family. Some you're
00:11:43.360 --> 00:11:44.949
going to see every week, whether you
00:11:44.959 --> 00:11:47.509
like it or not. So, here's what I would
00:11:47.519 --> 00:11:53.269
offer. Number one, trust the aftertaste.
00:11:53.279 --> 00:11:56.230
After you spend time with this person,
00:11:56.240 --> 00:11:59.590
pause. Check your body. Are you lighter
00:11:59.600 --> 00:12:03.750
or heavier? Clearer or confused? That's
00:12:03.760 --> 00:12:06.470
data. You don't have to argue with it.
00:12:06.480 --> 00:12:09.509
Number two, share your joy where it can
00:12:09.519 --> 00:12:12.389
be held with people who can hold it. Not
00:12:12.399 --> 00:12:14.230
everyone gets a front row seat to your
00:12:14.240 --> 00:12:16.870
good news. That isn't secrecy, it's
00:12:16.880 --> 00:12:19.509
discernment. Take your wins to the
00:12:19.519 --> 00:12:21.430
people who are glad for you. Keep
00:12:21.440 --> 00:12:23.269
conversations with this person on the
00:12:23.279 --> 00:12:25.269
surface.
00:12:25.279 --> 00:12:27.670
Three, stop defending what they
00:12:27.680 --> 00:12:30.150
criticize. You don't owe anyone a
00:12:30.160 --> 00:12:33.030
defense of your happiness. When they
00:12:33.040 --> 00:12:35.269
come at your outfit, your partner, your
00:12:35.279 --> 00:12:39.350
choices, try something short and warm
00:12:39.360 --> 00:12:42.949
and unbothered. Huh, I really like it.
00:12:42.959 --> 00:12:45.269
I'm really happy. That's not my
00:12:45.279 --> 00:12:48.230
experience. And then change the subject.
00:12:48.240 --> 00:12:50.389
No explaining, no justifying. The more
00:12:50.399 --> 00:12:52.710
you defend, the more ground you're
00:12:52.720 --> 00:12:54.150
handing them. I know that's
00:12:54.160 --> 00:12:56.470
counterintuitive. You want to defend
00:12:56.480 --> 00:12:57.990
your partner. You want to defend what
00:12:58.000 --> 00:13:02.389
you're wearing. No. Number four,
00:13:02.399 --> 00:13:04.949
rightsize the relationship. Not every
00:13:04.959 --> 00:13:07.110
friendship has to end, but some need to
00:13:07.120 --> 00:13:11.350
shrink. Less time, less access, fewer of
00:13:11.360 --> 00:13:14.949
the tender things. You get to decide how
00:13:14.959 --> 00:13:18.790
much of you they receive. Five. And this
00:13:18.800 --> 00:13:22.150
is for the woman whose partner has this
00:13:22.160 --> 00:13:25.750
friend. Don't make him choose. That
00:13:25.760 --> 00:13:27.750
usually backfires and it puts you in the
00:13:27.760 --> 00:13:29.509
role the friend already wants to cast
00:13:29.519 --> 00:13:33.750
you in. Say what you see once with love.
00:13:33.760 --> 00:13:35.910
Something like, "I've noticed that when
00:13:35.920 --> 00:13:37.750
you come back from time with him, you
00:13:37.760 --> 00:13:39.910
seem harder on yourself. Just want you
00:13:39.920 --> 00:13:42.710
to know that I see it and I see how far
00:13:42.720 --> 00:13:47.750
you've come." Then trust him or her to
00:13:47.760 --> 00:13:49.590
do their own work.
00:13:49.600 --> 00:13:51.829
Protect your relationship with the two
00:13:51.839 --> 00:13:54.629
of you, your agreements, your time
00:13:54.639 --> 00:13:57.269
together, your own words about who you
00:13:57.279 --> 00:14:00.310
are to each other. And please stop
00:14:00.320 --> 00:14:02.949
trying to win that person over. His
00:14:02.959 --> 00:14:05.590
approval was never the goal. Your peace
00:14:05.600 --> 00:14:07.590
is.
00:14:07.600 --> 00:14:09.750
Number six, build the circle that roots
00:14:09.760 --> 00:14:11.829
for you. Remember the research, the
00:14:11.839 --> 00:14:14.310
people around you shape what feels
00:14:14.320 --> 00:14:17.269
possible. So, be intentional about who's
00:14:17.279 --> 00:14:19.350
in the room when you're becoming who
00:14:19.360 --> 00:14:22.069
you're meant to be.
00:14:22.079 --> 00:14:26.230
Find your people. It's okay to rethink
00:14:26.240 --> 00:14:28.629
who your people are at any point in your
00:14:28.639 --> 00:14:30.790
life. So, here's what I want to leave
00:14:30.800 --> 00:14:33.509
you with. Your happiness is not a
00:14:33.519 --> 00:14:35.750
provocation. Your growth is not
00:14:35.760 --> 00:14:38.629
betrayal. And the people who love you
00:14:38.639 --> 00:14:41.910
well will be glad, not threatened, when
00:14:41.920 --> 00:14:44.069
you finally take up the space that has
00:14:44.079 --> 00:14:47.829
always been yours to take up. If you're
00:14:47.839 --> 00:14:49.430
realizing how much of yourself you've
00:14:49.440 --> 00:14:51.110
been editing to keep someone else
00:14:51.120 --> 00:14:53.670
comfortable, that's a lot of the work I
00:14:53.680 --> 00:14:56.470
do with men and women in coaching. The
00:14:56.480 --> 00:14:58.870
doors open at the loomlife.com coaching
00:14:58.880 --> 00:15:01.590
whenever you're ready. I'll be bringing
00:15:01.600 --> 00:15:03.350
more content like this here to this
00:15:03.360 --> 00:15:06.310
space, so subscribe. I'm Lesie Matthews.
00:15:06.320 --> 00:15:07.750
Thank you for pulling this thread with
00:15:07.760 --> 00:15:10.760
me.
