Packers Total Access: Packers vs. Lions Post-Game Show! Instant Analysis & NFL Week 7 Highlights!
The Packers’ three-game winning streak is over. Jake Bates hit a 22-yard field goal as time expired to give the Lions a 20-17 win at Ford Field, dropping Green Bay to 4-3 and Detroit up to 4-2. The two teams combined for 739 yards but only 37 points and went a combined 3-of-9 in the red zone. Packers rookie kicker Trey Smack missed two field goals, including a 35-yarder that was blocked by D.J. Wonnum with 3:21 left, a dropped touchdown pass on the final drive cost Green Bay another chance, and a series of penalty calls on both sides went against the Packers late. We break down the highlights, the turning points, and what it means for the NFC North.
In this complete post-game show, we dive into:
- How The Game Played Out: The Lions took a 7-0 lead on a Goff touchdown pass to Jameson Williams, and Love answered with a 14-yard touchdown pass to Tucker Kraft. Josh Jacobs then caught a checkdown on third-and-6 and took it 25 yards for a touchdown to give Green Bay its first lead at 14-10. Detroit led 17-14 after three quarters, and Smack’s 43-yard field goal tied it at 17 with 7:10 left.
- Josh Jacobs’ Return: In his season debut, Jacobs had 11 carries for 36 yards and five catches for 55 yards with a touchdown. He also dropped a would-be touchdown on a third-and-5 wheel route on the Packers’ final drive, and the team then sent Smack out for the field goal that was blocked. The Packers finished with only 60 rushing yards.
- The Kicking And The Red Zone: Smack missed a 26-yarder on the opening drive after a delay-of-game penalty wiped out a made 21-yarder, and the 35-yard attempt later was blocked. It was his seventh missed field goal of the season, and Green Bay was 1-for-4 in the red zone, also getting stopped on fourth down from the 7-yard line in the first half. Those were the points that decided the game.
- Jordan Love And The Offense: Love was 27-of-45 for 274 yards, two touchdowns, and an interception, a deep ball picked off by Brian Branch in his season debut. He took only one sack against a Lions defense that leads the NFL in sacks, but center Sean Rhyan left in the second half with an ankle injury. Tucker Kraft’s 22-yard run after a fourth-and-2 catch was one of the offensive highlights of the day.
- The Finish And The Officiating: Detroit went for it on fourth-and-1 at its own 24 with 4:53 left in a tie game, and Keisean Nixon stopped Jahmyr Gibbs for a 2-yard loss. After the blocked field goal the Lions drove 71 yards in 10 plays, helped by a roughing-the-passer call on the Packers and a Karl Brooks offside penalty on third-and-5 that gave Detroit a fresh set of downs. NBC and Yahoo both called multiple calls questionable, including a grounding call on Love and two roughing calls on the Packers’ defense, and LaFleur was clearly unhappy afterward. It was still a game Green Bay had its chances to win.
- What It Means For The NFC North: Detroit has its first divisional win. Goff was 22-of-32 for 303 yards and two touchdowns, and Amon-Ra St. Brown had 153 yards, even though the Lions lost two fumbles and had only one turnover all season coming in. The Packers drop into last place in the division at 4-3, and the next game is a chance to reset.
