If you woke up a little later, check out the parts of the show you missed in podcast form WFNZ dot com, Apple and Spotify. Wherever you get your podcasts, check us out and listen at your own leisure. Today. Hornet's playing a three o'clock game today, So the boys that have been dominating in the afternoon, they will now play at three o'clock and get another game moved up because of weather. So if you got tickets to the game, you got to get there early. Bone and Willie p We'll have pregame coming up at two o'clock today here on WFNZ. The Hornets are red hot. We've been talking about them all dang day with pride. But there's a team not too far away on the college side that has won eight straight games in their own rights, including a thirteen point win over unc Ashville over the weekend. On Saturday. They are the Winter Beagles, and their head coach Mark Prosser joins us here on the Mack and Bone Show. Coach, congratulations on the recent streak. How you doing, I'm doing great.
00:01:47
Speaker 2: I think I think I'm like a lot of people right now. I've been so spoiler for the last several years. I forgot about, like, you know, the general soreness that comes after you have to shovel snow. So I've been better, but I'm a little bit. I'm a little bit might be step flow today.
00:02:02
Speaker 1: How much did you get down that way, Coach rock Hillary, how much did y'all get?
00:02:05
Speaker 2: I mean, we have several inches and it's beautiful and it's a lot of fun. But it's been crazy because you know, very rarely do you have to move games or change days or or change times, and so I guess we're all sort of going through it now. But the last two Saturdays we've had to adjust the time of our game, and you know, I think we're all sort of creature to habit in some way. But our kids have ended it really really well and certainly doing everything with everybody's safety, and you know, at the forefront of what we do, and so, but it's been different these last couple of weekends.
00:02:37
Speaker 3: Coach talk us through, for those that haven't followed your program, the journey of your leading scorer, Logan Duncan. He starts in Indiana. Yeah, starts at Indiana and then he ends up at eighteen and nine this year after being three points three rebounds a game last year. How did he make a leak that big as a senior?
00:02:58
Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, he's just an unbelievable story. And a gentleman named Joe Dwyer wrote an unelievable story about Logan. It's sort of, uh, it's sort of his pass from uh, from being a top Hugry recruit that went to Indiana out of high school from Cincinnati Moeller, who's have a terrific program and in Cincinnati, Ohio, and you know, and and and and his journey from you know, his freshman year to the point where he transferred out of Indiana and went back sort of closer to home to Zavier, you know, and actually at one point stops playing basketball and and sort of lost the passion for it, and then you know, sort of went into the portal and you know, we've had a lot of connection to the Cincinnati coach Kelsey and.
00:03:36
Speaker 4: You always here and now the head coach at Lobill.
00:03:38
Speaker 2: And you know, certainly my father was coaching at Dager University, and we have assistants that actually you know that that went to Cincinnati Moler, and so you know, we had some connections out there. So that's no logan a little bit. You know, when he went into the portal and we're fortunate enough to have the opportunity to coach him, and he just sort of prepared himself for this moment and and you know, sort of going through an entire season and higher healthy off seasons. You know, we've had some success. We've had some pretty good post players here over the last several years and DJ Burns and Kelton Toowford was a first team All League player for several years and you know it's sort of big shoot to fill, but he was ready to go, and he prepared last year, and you know, it takes a lot, it takes a lot of giving of oneself to you know, to have the noteworthy career that he had and the pedigree that he had to come in and sort of play behind Celton and play to his minutes and get the production that you mentioned before last year, But man, was he ready for the moment of sort of stepping in and having that opportunity this year, and he's really taken it and run.
00:04:38
Speaker 1: Coach, talk to us about about your team and what clearly there are special things about this team. If you guys are sitting there eight and one in the Big South, win an eight game winning streak, what makes your team special? The metrics say rebounding looks like you're a ridiculously good rebounding team. Is that it?
00:04:57
Speaker 5: What?
00:04:57
Speaker 1: What are the secrets to what you guys have been doing?
00:05:00
Speaker 5: Yeah?
00:05:00
Speaker 4: I think you know, we have a system.
00:05:03
Speaker 2: I think we all coaches are all creatures of habit. We all think what we do is unique, even though probably everybody's doing the same things. But you know, I do think that we have a very experienced group that continue to get better. And you have to do that because the time you have with student athletes now is so finite. Right. We used to have, you know, two three four year kids in a system and they kept getting better and better. Now, just the way that the college athletics landscape is, you might have your student athletes for nine months and so.
00:05:29
Speaker 4: Everything you can try to do to to.
00:05:31
Speaker 2: Get them an understanding of the system and get them a comfort level in the system. I think takes some time, and that's just so exciting. I think we have guys who have played a lot of college basketball at a variety of levels, but they're now getting more and more comfortable in what we do. You know, we play fast, and we put foul pressure on people, and you have to be a little bit more, I guess, And for me, I've learned a lot as far as being willing to change a little bit. We're doing some different things on defense that I haven't been comforted with doing for for you know, maybe since I was assistant here and now you know, they really taken to that. So I guess, you know, I would say just the experience level of their willingness to continue to learn and get better.
00:06:08
Speaker 4: Uh.
00:06:08
Speaker 2: And they're really really unselfish group, and I think that that's what's made us good over the last couple of years. I think the last you know, two years, again, this year we had four guys that average in double figures, and you know, this year, I think we're at three. But a couple of knocking on the door and so just a really really good group of kids and a lot of fun to be around.
00:06:26
Speaker 3: Coach. I'm from Winston and I was there during your dad years at Wake four, so I got to meet him a couple of times. And uh, what a what a genuinely good man. And I know how much his name still resonates in Winston. Say, well, the name Prosser goes a long way. What are some lessons that you still take from him coaching wise on a daily basis that go back to to what he taught you man so.
00:06:51
Speaker 2: Many Uh, it's such a hard and I appreciate the kind words, and you know, it's such a hard question to answer because for so much of growing up up it was just it wasn't really coach, right, it was just that. And so the lessons that I learned a lot of times didn't have a lot to do with basketball, you know. But I think the things that you hear about.
00:07:09
Speaker 4: Him, and hopefully you know and in your interaction with him.
00:07:11
Speaker 2: As well, I think the stories are great and that nobody really remembers the wins and losses, right, They very rarely bring that stuff up. I'll remember this game or that game. They typically bring up. How how genuine and how authentic that he was, how he made them feel. And I think that's something that you.
00:07:27
Speaker 4: Know that we really try to do every day.
00:07:29
Speaker 2: And you know, certainly at home as well with my family, but.
00:07:32
Speaker 4: You know, but certainly in you know, in our day to day with our staff and our day to day with our student athletes.
00:07:36
Speaker 2: And you know, he played fast and and and put oout.
00:07:40
Speaker 4: Pressure on people as well, and we try to do that. Uh So there are some.
00:07:43
Speaker 2: Things basketball wise, but you know, I just think, you know, how he made people feel and and and just his authenticity, I think is what really you know, made him somewhat someone that people still think of and and talk about. And and that's the cool part. That's that's much core than you know, then maybe a game that they want or a game that they lost.
00:08:02
Speaker 1: Coach, I want to ask you about the transfer portal and how you've dealt with it, because I'm looking at like the minutes. You know, guys that have played the most minutes, the ten guys with the most minutes, it looks like maybe three are holdovers from from last year something in that neighborhood. So obviously you've got a ton of new guys. You mentioned that earlier. How have you been able to get this group together and to excel because I know some coaches are pulling their damn hair out because they don't have continuity and it's killed them. How have you been able? How have you been able to embrace the chaos?
00:08:38
Speaker 5: Yeah?
00:08:38
Speaker 2: I think you have to. I think you know the way that things are now. If you just said five years ago, hey, this is what it this is what it's going to look like. People who told you were crazy, and so you know, you can either throw your hands up and be frustrated with it, or you can embrace it and try to do the best you can. And you know, I think our staff and you know, in the off season, we do we have eight Division one transfers in one truth Ashman. We have no new scholarship student athletes.
00:09:03
Speaker 5: And that's a lot.
00:09:03
Speaker 2: That's the most we've had in a long time. I think the sort of earmark of our program has been able has our ability to keep really good players in our system and in our program. You know, but we knew we had a lot of guys last year when their last year of eligibility, and so we were going to have a new group and so.
00:09:17
Speaker 4: You know, well, we don't have resources that maybe some.
00:09:20
Speaker 2: Others in our league have, certainly certainly others.
00:09:22
Speaker 4: In the country have.
00:09:23
Speaker 2: You know, we have to be really really intentional about recruited to a system that fits and both offensively and defensively. But you know, I do think that, you know, being intentional about that, and being intentional about who you're bringing into UH into your locker room with guys that are still in our program, and we do have several days, whether our scholarship or non scholarships student athletes to sort of understand what it's like to be at Winthrop UH and the expectation of being at Winthrop and that never changes. And around here, you know, you're supposed to hang a banner every year. We know that, we accept that, and so you know, I think it's been a nice sort of combination of really unselfish kids that fit how we play, blending with a bunch of kids that that have been around that understand and and sort of can transfer over that expectation on a day to day basis. And you know, it hasn't been linear, right, It hasn't been a straight line since we started seeing We've had some good moments, We've had some some bad moments that I do think we're getting better. Uh, and we're gonna need to is that this is the most fun time of year for college basketball and we're sort of working our way into it now that now that we're into February, so we better be getting better or else. You know, what we've done to this point doesn't really matter.
00:10:26
Speaker 5: Coach.
00:10:26
Speaker 3: The text line is liking you right now because they're laughing that you have a much deeper voice than the host you're talking to.
00:10:36
Speaker 2: Yeah, I have a face for radio maybe a voice.
00:10:38
Speaker 1: Yeah you do. Yeah, you could pull off like quiet storm DJ voice. I feel like, you know what I mean?
00:10:43
Speaker 2: I floating there from all that. That's why Coach, I got to brow mout.
00:10:50
Speaker 1: I was sweeping. I was sweeping the snow. It didn't hurt my back, you know what I mean. That was my that was my technique.
00:10:57
Speaker 5: All right.
00:10:58
Speaker 3: I've had to do what we had, all right, Coach, Well, hey, we wish you the best of luck.
00:11:02
Speaker 1: Keep it going. You're a great story too, with the coaching lineage, you know, with you Pops, And I'm sure he's looking down at you and has been for years, but I'm sure this season he's enjoying the work you're doing. Keep it up down there at Winthrop, and we hope to be talking to you down the road about a tournament. Bid man, best of luck, No, absolutely, thank you so much for the Conrad John Day. All right, be good coach, coach, Now you go. Mark Prosser, head coach at Winthrop of the Winthrop.
00:11:27
Speaker 3: Eagles school Man, great energy from coach.
00:11:30
Speaker 1: He is man. He went out there and they did something on Saturday Bone that many a coach has failed to do. Many a really good coach has failed to do. He did not succumb to the bone and Mack and Bone guest booking curse. Unfortunately it got Queen's and Grant Leonard last week where you scheduled an interview on Friday, they lost over the weekend, and then we interviewed him on Monday. You scheduled this interview before the weekend and those boys still beat Ashville over the weekend. That is impressive, man.
00:12:00
Speaker 3: Yeah, win throw up in Charlotte. Are both doing okay after the interviews, right, Aaron's first done? All right, they won two in a row, but may have poor Queens. They have not won since I booked. There'sh three since he's been uh since he got booked. Oh shoot, yeah, they lost. The lost the day he got booked, and then the two afterwards.
00:12:15
Speaker 1: We've given him like you've given We've given him some sort of mac and bone flu. That's not just a curse. We given him the full blown damn flu. Unfortunately, all right, Well, hopefully they get going. By the way, Charlotte, I don't I've already said the Hornets are going to be a playoff team today. So I don't know if I want to curse every Charlotte basketball team today. I am at least starting to wonder bone can they like, can they compete for the conference championship?
00:12:44
Speaker 3: So you've got Hornets playoffs, right, You've got unc beating or you think you they got a fighting now you you may have so many enemies by next week.
00:12:56
Speaker 1: If you are on curse watch. All those are the three teams I've really raved about.
00:13:00
Speaker 4: Stands on up.
00:13:01
Speaker 1: Oh they're getting better and better. Baby, I'm excited there too, But anyway, I'm just looking at Charlott. I know Tulse is kind of the cream of the crop, but Charlotte is tied with them for the conference title, and I don't think it's a fluke. They got good guards. That dude bonk inside is a problem with his side. I don't know. I'm liking this team.
00:13:20
Speaker 5: Bone.
00:13:21
Speaker 3: Someone wants Mac to the Mack and Bone Show to do a Hornets cartwheel victory dancity. I think we should do it. Man, I'll you and Fitty should go in there a cartwheel today.
00:13:30
Speaker 1: You and Babel. Make sure you get Mabel cartwheeling from home?
00:13:33
Speaker 5: All right?
00:13:34
Speaker 1: May she get her involved.
00:13:37
Speaker 5: Break?
00:13:39
Speaker 1: All right? Well we come back. Let's talk some about the red Hot Hornets playing at three o'clock today at home with the Hive. A man that will be on the call, of course, is Eric Collins, voice of the Hornets. He joins us next Sports Radio ninety two to seven WFNZ Sports Radio ninety two seven wfn Z, Mac and Bone with you shout out to the texture and I do not have the name. Unfortunately he deserves some love for this, but he sent in a nice witty text Bone. He said, I liked the announcers on Saturday. I wish they could be the announcers for every Hornets game. That was you see what he did there? Both good? Good dad joke. That was a joke. That was a good dad joke, and I was a little worried. I didn't know if he was joking or just very clueless, but he was joking. It was different right here in EC and Dell. Do the Hornets game a huge win against the Spurs to make it six straight, but do it for Prime.
00:14:45
Speaker 3: I was whispering at times. This is where he'd stay hum diddly.
00:14:50
Speaker 1: You could see that they definitely were the pros that we knew they would be. Yes, and they made it a very neutral call, even if we wanted hum diddley d's and uh uh move suhs and all that good stuff. But it's back to the Hornets TV Network today for the three o'clock game against the Pelicans, and I'm looking forward to that. The voice of your Charlotte Hornets and one of the voices of the NBA on Prime Now is Eric Collins, who joins us on the Mac and Bone show.
00:15:16
Speaker 2: E C.
00:15:17
Speaker 1: What's going on?
00:15:18
Speaker 3: Man?
00:15:18
Speaker 5: How you been Mac bom thrilled to be here? I think we should do on Tuesday, right, we should do some Tuesdays all the time that was back in the day.
00:15:25
Speaker 1: We did what we did that was cool. Uh And then you became too big time for us e C. You know what I mean. We're lucky to get you back here. But in fairness and in all seriousness, man, I ask you how you're doing. I don't even know why I asked that question. To be calling You've called so many games and they have it all looked like these last six games. Let's just put it that way, like you and Dell have to be having a blast calling this team's games right now.
00:15:52
Speaker 5: Man, it is uh, it's worth the wait, it's worth way. Last week we were I think then won three consecutive games, and I asked Delle the Cad, what I think the franchise record is for most consecutive wins. And this guy's been around since nineteen eighty eight, he would know, and he said six. Oh my god, how pathetic does that sound? Come on, Dale's got to be higher than that. And we lived it up and its actually was ten. But to think the fact that like Dell has been around for every single season for the most part of Portance basketball, and for him to think that the longest winning streak ever was six, just guys, to show you, like how needed this winning streak is and how the Hornets need to get hot and stay hot and just kind of live here for a couple of years.
00:16:30
Speaker 3: Ec One thing that's happened even before this current streak is the national love or attention this team gets every game, whether it's Bill Simmons or Zach Low or the other day they're on Prime, so obviously they're talking about it. But Charles Barkley, Now, why do you think this team has really drawn the eyes of so many nationally right now?
00:16:52
Speaker 5: I just think it's the way they play, man. It's when those starters are on the floor together, you know, all these homegrown guys who are finally healthy. You know, it's beautiful basketball, man, It's CaAl Soccker, the beautiful games you want, man, But this is just gorgeous. The way the ball moves around the perimeter and from one really good shot goes to one great shot. And the guys are just snipers. Man, Every single guy out there lately is just playing up to their pedigree and continent one makes everything better, you know. Obviously, LaMelo when he's healthy, has always been a difference maker. We've known them for six years. But Brandon Miller, I think everyone fell asleep on I think everyone just figured Okay, whatever, he's thin, maybe he's at the world's greatest ball handler, whatever, he's not Victor wimen Yama. But the guy that's Doug Man, the guy is the second best player of his draft class. And it's not even close. And this is the guy who's guy's chance to be really really, really really good. And he's an afterthought when we talk about what the Hornets to do on offense and defense.
00:17:45
Speaker 1: Ec you mentioned LaMelo in there, and there's so many of these guys that deserve credit and love for what's going on. But we played a clip earlier from the prime post game after you guys got done calling that awesome win against the Spurs, and Steve Nash, one of the all great point guards, said, what he's seeing from LaMelo is he's trimmed the fat out of his game. That's kind of the way he put it, hum and have you noticed something like that. It just feels like he's under control. And the way Bone put it earlier was he now knows I don't need to carry this big load. You know, I don't need to put up thirty to win. Do you see these differences in the way LaMelo's playing, Well, one thing I.
00:18:23
Speaker 5: Did notice is when the Horns needed him a couple of days ago down in Dallas, beginning of the third quarter, they had a lead that was starting to slip away. He made a couple of big shots in row. That was big. That's what point guards do. The other thing I've noticed is, just because I look at his numbers every single day, he's not going to the free throw line as much. And I don't think that's a bad thing. I think that he was going to the free throw line. He was in attack mode, trying to get his and get everyone involved. And I don't know what it is, and I do feel for the guy, but he's in my opinion, and clearly I got a little bit of blinders on. I'd never thought he's gotten a really fair whistle, and that used to frustrate him and he would fall to the floor. He would get upset the fact that you know, he's not going to the free throw line, and it would affect him defensively, and you get in the foul trouble because you know, whatever he committed silly foul. And I just think he's kind of matured a little bit and say, you know what, if I'm not going to get a good whistle. Con is, I'm going to give it to him. Miles is, I'm going to give it to him. Brandon went to the free throw line nine times the other day. I'm going to give it to him. I'm gonna stay out of the way. And I think that just simple small thing of not putting himself in a harm's way and getting frustrated has elevated his game and everyone else's.
00:19:27
Speaker 3: He see, speaking of the Dallas game, that great showcase that we saw. Mark Aguire just finished doing his halftime speech.
00:19:35
Speaker 5: Hey, Tim of the Cats to both teams, Man, that was an absolute disaster, and for both teams to figure it out, you know, and not let that slow them down and play a great third quarter in a great fourth quarter, that just shows the professionalism of both sides. That's fantastic.
00:19:48
Speaker 3: See what's been the as far as Con goes? What's been the thing that has surprised you the most about his level of impact so far?
00:19:57
Speaker 5: Oh? Wow, Well, it's my favorite story about Con. I'm going to share it free. He plays his first game in the opener, and all I wanted to do was talk about how great a free throw shoot this guy was in college and how he's never gonna miss and this is going to change all of our lives. And he goes one for two and clearly a little bit of disdain in my voice. So the next game rolls around, he's like, all right, he's missed his first free throw, probably won't miss again until December. He's our guy. And he goes one out of two and clearly I got up set. So Game three happens, and clearly his friends back in Wisconsin, maybe his parents, I don't know, had called and told him that, you know, this announcer guy is crushing you. He's not thrilled. He comes up to me. He's in the lamp line and Dylla and are getting ready to do our open and he says, mister Collins, I go yeah. He goes, I'm so sorry, but what's happening at the free throw line. It won't happen anymore. I'll be better. He proceeded to rip off twenty four consecutive free throws. I love it. I'm telling you, man, that guy is an absolute gentleman. I think he's fantastic. And the fact that he turned his ankles severely in front of me when we're down in Orlando back in December and he basically is ready to go again by you know, the time we got on the team plane. It's a powerful milk man. This guy is going to be the goods for a long time. I love that. That is hilarious.
00:21:11
Speaker 1: By the way you just said, you just said it there, he's a gentleman. I need to know where does the two for two like a gentleman? When a guy hits two free throws? Where does that come from?
00:21:22
Speaker 5: I don't even know. I don't really know. I think someone we should say it on the golf course, you know, you hit a nice drive and you walk down the fairway like a gentleman, you know, but it just kind of morphed into kind of you make two free throws and they look good. You're a gentleman.
00:21:35
Speaker 1: I love it. I'm yelling at my TV when two free throws are made that he's a gentleman. So I'm I'm on, what was.
00:21:41
Speaker 3: The one you had? Every once in a while you sneak one in and I can't remember if you've said it. You had one the other day? What was it about kool eight in the ocean something like that.
00:21:49
Speaker 5: Oh, Brandon Miller, Yeah, he's uh oh, no, no, no, that one's just if it's a weak shot, it's weaker than a package of kool Aid in the ocean. You just to say that all the time. If you're afraid to go up strong basketball game and you're weaker than a package of kool aid in the ocean.
00:22:02
Speaker 3: Oh, this is beautiful and this is a basketball you deserve as you and Delle deserved as basketball, we as fans.
00:22:09
Speaker 1: Deserved as basketball for being loyal and it's happening, man, it really is. What do you notice ec with Charles Lee and the coaching staff. You're around this team, you're traveling with this team. What Charles Lee was getting a lot of praise from the national guys in the Prime studio. What do you notice here on a local level that you see from from Charles Lee in this staff.
00:22:33
Speaker 5: It's basically the same thing as it was before. I remember last year. You know, if you really kind of thought about these guys are delusional. You know, they went nineteen games and they keep talking about you know, vitamins and getting better and steady improvement and zeal to get better and the okay whatever. But now that they're winning, like you totally get it. Like these guys. It wasn't kind of bluster like, it was real, like it was a process. And you know, just because they hadn't experienced the frustration of the five previous years doesn't mean that we need to blame them for the nineteen win last year. Man, they were just kind of getting started and moving forward. And it's the same thing every single game. You know, let's see if we can get better. And now it's not just let's see if we get better. Let's see if we can get better at the art of winning. You know, before it used to be let's get better in terms of making decisions during a game, make better at you know, at whatever, making shots off the dribble or trying a different move in the paint. Now it's let's to get better the small things about winning games. And I think it's such a fun stage for this team to be in because they do do things correctly and we're starting to see that it's not just you know, one time thing the blowouts had been. It's crazy historically off the charge. So what the Hornets did in the month of January, it's been so much fun.
00:23:41
Speaker 3: You see, even with four guys over nineteen points per game, how much has musa kind of become the heart and soul of this whole operation.
00:23:50
Speaker 5: Wow, I love that, guys. It's you know what, And I don't want everyone to kind of get lost in the fact that. And I checked myself every once in a while. Yeah, his energy is unbelievable. Yeah, his motor is just it doesn't stop. But the guy is freaking a warrior in terms of what he wants to do and what he's thinking about it. He's looking at that game chart, he's looking at game film. He does have a strategy.
00:24:10
Speaker 4: You know.
00:24:10
Speaker 5: I used to be around Dennis Rodman, and everyone used to think that Dennis Rodman was just this party guy who was hanging out all hours of the night with you know, Carmen Electra and showing up half drunk and getting his sixteen rebounds. That was not the case. That guy was a total worker who had a strategy for every spot on the floor and who was shooting it and with what hand, about where the ball was going to go. I remember he pulled inside in the time and try to tell me he didn't have numbers, but it was numbers in his head. Ericause someone shooting from the baseline, it will never be I don't remember it was a shorter long anymore, but he had some number. There's eighty six percent of the time, but the shots shot from right here, it's going to be over here, so I'm always going to stand over here. And everyone just gave him credit for being this kind of motor guy. And I think the same thing with Musa. Musa has put in work man, and he's a smart guy who cares about acclimating and understanding what his teammates are talking about, and well, this is a second language for him, and he understands everything that's being told to him. And coached him just because he wants to be the best team me and he can be. And I'm thrilled that he's getting results.
00:25:06
Speaker 1: Ec was it hard for you as he was battling his countryman Wemby too, I mean maybe out playing him. I mean like when you were it was it hard for you to do a national broadcast and not yell out and Musa at the top of your lunch.
00:25:21
Speaker 5: Well, you know what I tried to. It may have flipped once or twice, but it was always gonna be last names. I kind of I do believe in that if you do a national game I was not gonna call LaMelo LaMelo. I wasn't gonna call Musa Musa. So I did do. I said Diabate way more than I've said in my life in that two hour window.
00:25:37
Speaker 2: But yeah, I think it's.
00:25:38
Speaker 5: Fair to say, you know, from an unbiased national perspective of me doing that game at center court with Del Curry, the better numbers were from Mussa Diabate and they weren't even close, and his team won the game, and you know that he won that matchup, no doub about it. Maybe for eighty two that wouldn't be the case, but in that particular Saturday, Musa outplayed with Victor Women.
00:25:56
Speaker 1: Yama, amazing. It is man twelve I think twelve, ten, six and two. It is ridiculous.
00:26:03
Speaker 3: You had a different seat, right, They moved you up closer for that game.
00:26:06
Speaker 5: Right, you know what? Yeah, we're always up high. You know, we're thirty rowers back, and we were actually on the floor. I haven't been on the floor in that building since like two thousand and five when I came to Charlotte to do the CIAA tournament for ESPN Classic. So it was a totally different vantage point, but it was worth the wait I can wait twenty one years for a view like that and the victory like that.
00:26:27
Speaker 1: EC, we got a great text. And by the way, shout out to Chef. Chef was the one that made the joke about, hey, those announcers, we should have them back for another Hornets game. That was Chef with the dad joke. But we have one of our texters that usually I feel like it can often be one of the meanest texts out there. But you have apparently you have gotten him to soften up. Our texter name Bebop is texting in once. Didn't make sure that EC has a ride to today's game with the roads being the way they are, says he is out and about EC. He would drive you in if you need a ride. That's very nice of him. Are you good? You good to go?
00:27:01
Speaker 5: Though? I'm good? I would walk, you know if that's what I'm all about, man, it's I was just putting an extra layer and I would walk to get to the game with the most impassable.
00:27:10
Speaker 3: Don't worry, all right, that's what we thought. It's probably safer than being in a car. The guy named Bebop.
00:27:17
Speaker 1: All he would do is talk your ear off about how Bryce Young's too short to play quarterback. You don't want to hear that anyway. You see, you'd be better off in the playoffs.
00:27:24
Speaker 5: That's good enough for me. Hey, I'm a Cleveland Browns fan born and raised, and I would love to go to the playoffs and lose in the first dround.
00:27:29
Speaker 1: Exactly exactly. It's progress and the Hornets are making progress too. It's a fun time for Charlotte sports fans. I haven't said that every year of our lives. I have not, but it is right now and the Hornets are a big part of it. E C will be watching you again today. Man, keep up the great work, and thanks as always for hanging with us.
00:27:47
Speaker 5: Man mac Bone, you guys are popshell. Thank you so much for having me.
00:27:52
Speaker 1: All Right, be good, be good, Ecie, appreciate you. All Right, there you go. E C banged out that interview like a gentleman. Bones right, there's what he did.
00:27:59
Speaker 3: We have a guy that texted in bag looking for tickets. His name is actually on the text Wine looking for tickets.
00:28:04
Speaker 1: Oh shooting, he is, and he connects. There's a lot of names. Is that Stephen Whitaker's burner? Oh no, So the greatest ticket baggers we've ever had. Red Fox old school listener Red Fox. Uh, this guy looking for tickets who literally was named this because all he does is ask for tickets and then Steve Panther Stephen Whittaker has taken ticket bagging bone to a new level.
00:28:32
Speaker 3: Saw him one day recently asked Mike Jaminski for tickets to camera. But even your g man gets tickets for that's a hell of a it's a hell of a question, does he?
00:28:43
Speaker 1: I don't know, But witt there is no person, there is no game that wit will not shoot his shot man and give it a chance and see if he has tickets. To the point where it sounds like there was a dust up a little Donnybrook between the p man and the wit dog this weekend over tickets. Talk about it.
00:29:05
Speaker 3: Really, I would like that to I would like that to be a public fight.
00:29:10
Speaker 1: Honestly, I need that. Well, Willy's filling in for Colin here at top of the hour. Is there any way we can get a wit calling? Did you see his jacket?
00:29:17
Speaker 5: Mac?
00:29:17
Speaker 6: By the way, who willies that jacket probably added thirty forty pounds to the p man. You came in all puffed up. What what are you talking about? Cold man, he's not built for this weather. I just want to see you that way.
00:29:36
Speaker 1: Oh man, you are you got multiple layers over there. You know what I mean, You're built for it.
00:29:41
Speaker 6: That's shorts and long sleeve on fifteen degrees outside.
00:29:45
Speaker 1: Question of my toughness, Oh my goodness. All right, when we come back, y'all, it is wrap up time. We'll let you know what's going on in the world of sports. Hornets and heels coming up later today and we'll set the schedule for you here on WFNZ. Would it's playing in the afternoon Sports Radio ninety two to seven WFNZ.
00:30:18
Speaker 7: Cooper Flag of the Dallas Mavericks has set a new NBA record for scoring the most points by a teenager in a game.
00:30:25
Speaker 1: Not a great start to Black History Month. Michael Jay Well played Saturday Night Live talking about Cooper Flag, who, by the way, that is hilarious. That is a hilarious joke. Who, by the way, bone for a encore On Saturday in their nationally televised game against Houston. He had a thirty plus point double double as well. He is playing out of his mind, But then again, so are our hornets, man, So are our hornets much better? Comment than Jamal Mashburn made the other day on TNT viral Mack, I'm sure you saw that one right and we got that one here, man, we got that one here? Should we double up the credit?
00:31:08
Speaker 3: Keep in mind there was a great reply ask New York butcher chop Ny Butcher Wine Bar on Instagram Daily Specials Ambil deals Duke with a great response by the way, to mash Bird by posting highlights of the shot against Kentucky in nineteen ninety two.
00:31:23
Speaker 1: Maybe that's what it is. He's still better, he's still bitter about the Latner shot. This is it right here. This is Mashburn who is in the College Hoops studio on TNT. Listen to what he says about Cooper Flag. There, tar heel fans will probably like this, Cliff though a little better.
00:31:39
Speaker 7: So when you look at I look at last year's number one overall picking Cooper Flag. If I was to put him on that list, he would be sixed.
00:31:47
Speaker 1: You will put Cooper Flag behind all five of them. Behind all five of them, I.
00:31:50
Speaker 7: Pete Peterson, Caleb Wilson, everybody just from a skill set and also elevation level of where they can get to. I personally think Caleb Wilson he's going to take a humongous jump at the pro level.
00:32:05
Speaker 1: I think he's such a good pro game. Yeah, such a.
00:32:07
Speaker 2: Good pro game.
00:32:08
Speaker 7: But I just think that this freshman class, and you can contribute everybody from last year, those guys will still be at the top of the list. Though Cooper Flagg has some holes in this game, all right.
00:32:20
Speaker 3: Match, But the way one of the things that you have the advantage of is you're looking at Cooper Flag right now and how he's come on in the NBA and you're.
00:32:27
Speaker 5: Still he just had forty nine points.
00:32:29
Speaker 7: That's a I mean, do you see Caleb Wilson having forty something points in the NBA next year? One thing I will say about the years down the road, One thing I will say, will I see Darren Peterson having forty at some point in his rookie year AJ having forty? But over the long term, Caleb Wilson, in my opinion, is a piece that could be built around for a championship caliber team.
00:32:51
Speaker 3: There you go, So I don't what about co CoA PTE is above Cooper.
00:32:54
Speaker 1: Flight It's ridiculous Seriously, last year we were all falling over Cooper. How generationally is I think he's going out there and proving it right now, and Jamal Mashburn wants to put five six guys from this year's draft over them. It's crazy. And I'm down with the Caleb Wilson praise. We got into it a week or two ago, bone because I just think his upside is off the charts too. But seriously, what do we do with Jamal Mashburn? The hell we doing?
00:33:19
Speaker 3: Can? I also point out that all the guys he named and there, and they're all fantastic players. I mean, Caleb Wilson might be a ten time NBA All Star, But the guys he's naming there, this freshman class was Cooper Flag's original class. This was his he reclassified, These were his guys along the way, and he was ahead of these guys in the ranking. That's a good points, a very good point. What would what would Cooper Flagg do as a freshman this year if he went in with his normal class?
00:33:48
Speaker 1: Yeah, he'd beat the best one of this bunch, I believe, I personally believe, as good as they all are. I guess we could debate that because Peterson's pretty ridiculous when he plays. But that's that's a bit of a problem as you saw the other day. All right, let's get to the wrap up here, bone Man so Hornets at three today at home at the Hive. Everybody, if you headed over be safe, be safe, get over there. If you see ec walking instead of riding with Bebop, offer him a ride. Bone and Willie p got the pregame coming up at two o'clock here on WFNZ, and then we got hornet or hornets. I just said that, and then we God, God, I am I am Selania aren't I? Uh, We're sorry, jim no offense though, Jimmy. We've got Heels and Syracuse tonight seven o'clock on ESPN Big Monday as well. Uh, let's get to some of these text bone Ishmael has gone on a run here of fitty texts after Eric Collins discussed his like a Gentleman, saying that he has Uh. These are all the texts sent in in the last five minutes by Ishmael. Finny struck out with Jersey Jenny like a gentleman fitty eight a dozen donut. It's like a gentleman Finny clog Dad toilet like a gentleman, Hubert Davis, like a gentleman. At least you deal with me. Chivalry isn't dead.
00:35:09
Speaker 5: City.
00:35:09
Speaker 3: What's going on at the what's going on at the sexual house? You're the only one there now, it's just me. That's how That's how damn it central I am.
00:35:18
Speaker 6: They went and rented out a four story be Airbnb for me.
00:35:24
Speaker 1: I was, I had to place all of myself. I well, the rest of us got invites. I got an invite. I just turned it down.
00:35:30
Speaker 6: Yeah, I got an invite. So I mean I I called Flounder. Flounder didn't come, Shoppy didn't come.
00:35:36
Speaker 1: None of your friends came to your birthday party.
00:35:37
Speaker 6: I just sat there last night recorded a podcast listening to Morgan Wallen.
00:35:41
Speaker 1: Now's my son, that's my Sunday.
00:35:43
Speaker 3: Not possible. You're snoring. Has kept the whole house away for a second weekend.
00:35:50
Speaker 1: Maybe I take a.
00:35:52
Speaker 3: Great founder with this new lady, Like why couldn't he be there?
00:35:58
Speaker 6: No, No, he was just that home. I called him when I left and said, You'm gonna come pick you up? And he said, uh, he said no that He said, okay, So man, you know what, whatever it is, snoring, your gas problems, whatever it might be.
00:36:12
Speaker 1: Fitty, who cares? Man, You got that big old house to yourself. That's you know what I mean?
00:36:16
Speaker 6: The only yu, the only issue is that to him, I couldnot figure out the thermostat the house was seventy six degrees.
00:36:25
Speaker 5: I was.
00:36:26
Speaker 3: I was sweating and toasting toasty and things were sticking together. Jenny, you got to bring a lady over. Man, you got a whole house. They're not gonna know it's not yours like a gentleman, you know.
00:36:38
Speaker 1: Oh, they could probably jump by the decoration. Ask Kurt, not my place, ask Kert Jersey, Jenny, if you get an overnight visit with your rewards club membership, you know.
00:36:50
Speaker 6: All right?
00:36:50
Speaker 1: Let me read some of these texts here. Let me read some of these. By the way, Fitty is a trooper driving to Chapel Hill tonight despite the weather. Be safe, Fitty, and all seriousness, be se man on those roads for the Heels and Syracuse. Earlier, I got a guy blasted me because I said banana skin. He says it's a peel my dude. Does no one say banana skin? Does everybody say peel?
00:37:14
Speaker 6: Am?
00:37:14
Speaker 1: I the only one.
00:37:14
Speaker 3: I've always said. I've always said peel. Yeah.
00:37:17
Speaker 1: Have you ever heard skin though banana skin?
00:37:20
Speaker 6: Well?
00:37:20
Speaker 5: I have?
00:37:21
Speaker 1: Yeah, all right, is banana skin acceptable? Fitny, I've never heard that.
00:37:24
Speaker 3: I think it's I think it's from like the nineteen forties with the Three Stooges.
00:37:29
Speaker 1: I think it might be. What is what it's called like? And what I meant is Virginia Tech's been a banana skin on the road for Duke, Right, Duke's lost four times as a top five team there, So I said they survived that banana skin. I think that's what they say over in like England, like in Premier League when you have I think that's where I've got that from. Why don't you use that on a sports talk show? And I think, well, I mean either way, the saying works. It's just like the same. Just y'all want me to say banana peel instead of bananas. I didn't even realize that I was. I was offending the banana peel posse. Did not realize that.
00:38:06
Speaker 6: Everything involving England after seventeen seventy six MAC is a relevant.
00:38:10
Speaker 1: I'm gonna tell mad Cat Jessica Charman and she will literally rip your head off the next time she sees you, and I will enjoy it. Seventeen seventy six. Let me read a couple more texts. Here, this texter or says, duhh? Was this Ishamaela Gander? Is this someone else? Oh no, this is panther bo double fry for Fitty. I would have bet the house on that order. Here's another one about Fitty. Why is every text about Fitty? Has anyone noticed Fiddy's food story's always involved boneless fried chicken? Were We were talking Greek cuisine the other day and he chimes in with they have great chicken tenders? Is he six years old? I don't know if it's your generation, but it feels like there's a lot of younger folks like you, Fitty, that don't have the appreciation for bone in fried chicken. Like my favorite type of chicken is like fried chicken. Give me a thigh, give me a drumstick, give me a breast. I feel like there's a lot of young like like like, I feel like there's a lot what are you twelve?
00:39:18
Speaker 2: Though?
00:39:18
Speaker 1: I think bone bone might be younger than you. Actually with that, do you like, do you ever get fried chicken? Boners. It usually it feels like it's usually tendies for you and FITTI.
00:39:28
Speaker 3: No, I think my generation's more more tenders also, So and what's wrong don't you think? I don't think orderance of chicken tendis is a problem for grown people. I'm a tendyes guy.
00:39:38
Speaker 1: I feel like y'all are missing out man, Like like.
00:39:41
Speaker 5: You, I'm not.
00:39:42
Speaker 3: I'm not a posed to. I'm not opposed to thighs and breast, but I'm attend chicken does not get better in my opinion than a greasy fried chicken thigh. Well, here's the thing that is that is chicken at its peak, man, if it's done right.
00:39:56
Speaker 6: So, whenever you fried chicken at home, do you fried bone in or boneless? Because growing up, whenever Ma Mall or Dad made chicken, it was always boneless chicken.
00:40:06
Speaker 5: That was just deep fried.
00:40:07
Speaker 6: So like I've never like I've had the I'll go to KFC and get you know sometimes, but a lot of times I eat fried chicken, it's boneless.
00:40:16
Speaker 1: So it's just how I I'm just talking about, Like when I go to bow Jangles, like that's my go to. How do you not if I go to KF my go to if I go to Popeyes, that's my Like, I just so you got bone Jangles and you don't get the supreme. No, I mean I will ever now and then, But like I just I don't know, I just I actually I look down on you, tend the Tendy crowd. I kind of think like you're just you are kind of eating like children like my kids.
00:40:40
Speaker 3: Oh hey whatever, I could dip in honey mustard, that's my goal. Whatever, whatever fall.
00:40:45
Speaker 1: On this pig.
00:40:46
Speaker 8: Do you feel like I know, I just walked into this conversation. I'm like, man, this is fascinating.
00:40:50
Speaker 1: I feel like there's a younger generation. It doesn't appreciate the bone in chicken the way we used to. Why do I Why do I have to choose?
00:40:56
Speaker 8: I mean I think, I mean, I mean Attendy's mood sometimes, but like there's nothing better than a nice, big old bucket of fried chicken with both saying that's what I'm saying.
00:41:05
Speaker 1: I'm gonna think of something better. Stop don't save dry brisket? Okay, stop it?
00:41:10
Speaker 5: Okay?
00:41:10
Speaker 1: Or are you gonna go? Were you gonna go something out? Something even more dirty?
00:41:13
Speaker 6: Maybe maybe pastrami? We shared some pastrami last week. But you're the one that went to the brisket route. He's still in your head four years later.
00:41:22
Speaker 8: I'm getting preemptively preparatory when it comes to your brisket slender.
00:41:26
Speaker 1: He's got his guard up for you. All right, bone hey, bone you and maybe go get a bucket of chicken. All right, get on out there. So what says they?
00:41:33
Speaker 2: So?
00:41:33
Speaker 5: What said?
00:41:34
Speaker 3: They want the show to be bothless? I'll take.
00:41:39
Speaker 1: Oh man, all right, anyway, Jack's got my back if none of the rest of you do. Jack has my back, all right, so's Joe and Rowley. God bless you human beings. Now you're just beautiful humans. All Right, we're out of here. Willie pet basically is going to do like the majority of the rest of the broadcast day here and it's w f n Z to Willie the rest of the way. He's coming up next. He got hornets pregame, He's got hornets postgame. We'll talk all about it tomorrow. P Band coming up next.
Speaker 1: Sports Radio ninety two seven wfn Z Mac and Bone with you. Happy Monday, everybody, Happy snowy Monday, wherever you might be. If you made it into work today, stay safe on your drive home. If you're chilling at the house working from home, I'm glad you made the Mac and Bone Show part of your process.
