Jim Sheils wrote The Family Board Meeting, and he and his wife have run a date-night system every week for years. It takes about five minutes to learn. Same day and time every week, locked on the calendar. No phones. And one or two real questions you don't already know the answer to.
He is blunt about why it fails. It fails for the same reason the family board meeting fails: that which we schedule gets done. He tells the story of a nine-figure entrepreneur who could not make it stick until Sheils got his assistant on the phone and had her block every week for a year. It has run ever since.
