#164 Ron Hodgson: Has Australia Lost Control of Its Future?

Australia has extraordinary natural resources, talented people and enormous economic potential, so why are Australians facing rising debt, housing pressure, energy insecurity and declining confidence in the political system?

In this thought-provoking podcast, host Dave sits down with Ron for an unfiltered conversation about Australian sovereignty, democracy, natural resources, taxation, migration, energy policy, national defence and the future of the country.

Ron shares his remarkable personal journey, from leaving school at 15 and becoming a motor mechanic to building businesses across insurance, publishing, financial services, consulting and construction. He also opens up about losing his eldest son, the strength required to survive personal tragedy and his belief that being born is a privilege—and that everyone has an obligation to live their best life.

The conversation then examines some of Australia’s biggest questions:

• Is Australia’s political system broken?

• Why does Australia export raw materials and buy back finished products?

• Could Australia become the financial, agricultural and education hub of Southeast Asia?

• Should political parties be replaced by independent representatives?

• Could a “House of Experts” improve government policy?

• Is Australia prepared for cyberattacks and future security threats?

• What role should coal, gas, nuclear power and renewables play?

• Should politicians face strict term limits?

• What is the difference between infrastructure debt and recurring government debt?

This is a challenging conversation filled with strong opinions, personal experience and a bold alternative vision for Australia. The political and economic views expressed are those of the speakers and are presented for discussion and debate.
