00:00:00
Speaker 1: Yeah, another perfect.
00:00:15
Speaker 2: Day for that. Glad you're here. Weather's going to turn a bit on Wednesday across much of Colorado. Actually, maybe by late day Tuesday, but not going to be a real big deal. Just some showers, get down into the 50s, and then warm up to Pretty much near perfection mid-70s by the weekend up in the mountains, maybe low 60s. But boy, what a privilege it is to live in Colorado. Shannon's got the icon behind the glass. Shannon, you were AI before AI. You are AI. So it is a privilege to live in Colorado. Which newspaper has that or had that as its motto? That's a little unfair to Shannon. Plus, he's eating for the first time in three days right now. So I should have been a waiter, right? And wait till you got something in your mouth before I ask you a question.
00:01:04
Speaker 3: I miss having two papers here.
00:01:06
Speaker 2: Yeah, the Rocky Mountain News. You got it.
00:01:08
Speaker 3: Because if somebody said, if you asked them how they were and they said, well, I checked the obituary. My name wasn't in it. You could always ask, do you get both papers?
00:01:18
Speaker 2: Did you see? There's this new service out there. I don't know. It might be ingenious. But you sign up and then they just notify you when. Somebody, and they use AI to figure this all out, somebody in your immediate area, somebody in your circle dies because nobody reads the obituaries anymore. So they just take the initiative and contact you. Honestly, I'm thinking of signing up because you'd hate to miss that. You'd hate to miss somebody's funeral.
00:01:49
Speaker 3: Well, and I feel stupid saying happy birthday on Facebook to dead people.
00:01:53
Speaker 4: Why?
00:01:54
Speaker 3: Well, because they're, I have to go back and say happy heavenly birthday. I can't.
00:01:59
Speaker 2: Okay.
00:02:00
Speaker 4: Okay. Yeah.
00:02:01
Speaker 2: It's still their birthday, just a new location.
00:02:04
Speaker 1: Yeah.
00:02:05
Speaker 3: Same menu, different venue.
00:02:06
Speaker 2: Yeah. I would bet a different menu. What do you think the menu is up there? What do you think the menu is down low?
00:02:16
Speaker 3: The best ramen for me.
00:02:18
Speaker 2: The best ramen.
00:02:20
Speaker 4: Yeah.
00:02:20
Speaker 1: Yeah.
00:02:22
Speaker 2: Yeah, it's funny. I wonder how many people ever really stop that often and think about heaven. I think more people think about maybe hell than heaven. More people think about the question of eternity than it. But I wonder how often we all really stop and just try to picture what heaven actually looks like. 303-713-8255, the number D-A-N-5-7-7-3-9. Let me get back to the line and to text on our overarch issue of the day. We have a few close seconds, but Main issue of the day is masks on ICE agents because Denver passed a law saying nada. And then Trump administration just sued saying, yes, we will because of federal law preempts in this area. And our officers need the protection that comes with that anonymity. Where I come down on this is, A, I think the Trump administration is going to eventually win this case. But B, I think that ICE agents... do need that kind of protection and anonymity as we see in other law enforcement situations, not all, not typical daily patrol, but other specialized law enforcement situations. But I think it needs to be done a different way, not masks. So yes to the anonymity, yes to the face coverings, but no to masks. I think masks are not consistent with the proud tradition of American law enforcement, American military, I think that we need some, and I appreciate the texture. What did he say here? Dan, define what you suggest. In the meantime, ask what it should be. What I suggest is the equivalent of the type of a riot gear helmet and face shield that we see often worn in different specialized law enforcement situations, such as major crowd control. You see it worn as well. You can see it by National Guard, et cetera. I think that's more protective, and more consistent with American professionalism in law enforcement. No knock on ice officers. I think most are very courageous people who save a lot of innocent lives. I think the mask thing, I think it does them a disservice in terms of the image of ice, and I think there's a better way to protect them and their anonymity. Roy, in Denver, you're on the Dan Kaplan Show, also talking about the DOJ raid on Congressman Ilhan Omar's home. Troy, welcome to the show. Hey, Dan.
00:04:52
Speaker 4: Yeah, I was active duty in the military for 22 years.
00:04:56
Speaker 2: Thank you.
00:04:59
Speaker 4: So these ICE officers are putting their lives out on the line, and they're putting their families' lives out on the line. They must protect their anonymity. Because unlike your dad, who only dealt with the criminals in the city, these ice officers are having to deal with narco-terrorists that will go after their family. Yeah, it's an extremely dangerous job that they're doing, and I want them completely protected from anonymity. The technology out there to find out where you live, where your family lives, It's way too easy. All I need to do is a picture of your face.
00:05:41
Speaker 2: I'm with you 1,000%, Troy, and very grateful for your call. I just think there's a better way to do it than masks in every way, everything from the comfort and protection, face and head protection for the ICE agents to the professionalism and the image of ICE. Yeah. I just think that there's a better way to do it, and it is that the most modern technology lightweight, protective, riot type helmet and face shield that you can get. And I'm sure it can be accommodated to the particular needs of ICE as well. So that's my suggestion, but agree with you completely on the anonymity. And I know that's controversial, right? Because with our typical heroes in blue, men and women, you know, on patrol and serving in major departments, I don't think any of us want that or are suggesting that. And as the son of a 30-year police officer who worked some of the toughest neighborhoods in Chicago for a lot of years. I don't think that our law enforcement needs that. Maybe there's some exception. Our daily law enforcement needs that unless they're maybe in a particular type of undercover work. That was the irony, right, is my dad, you know, this was in a different era, but he was sent undercover into Chicago gang world. you know, including like back then the Black P-Stone Nation, et cetera. And I thought, you know, color shouldn't matter in most situations, but the fact that my dad's a 6'3, going on 6'4, white guy, is he the ideal choice for that mission? But he was such a good cop, they sent him into so many different situations. 303-713-8255, D-A-N-57739. And I don't think anybody, including our officers on the street saying DPD, I don't think anybody wants our regular municipal police forces to be masked or to have helmets on outside of a specialized assignment like riot work. But I think everybody recognizes that ICE work is different. ICE work is very specialized law enforcement work. All law enforcement is very dangerous. ICE work has its own peculiar set of dangers. And within that, its own unique set of dangers that come from identification. So yeah, I just think there's a better, more effective, more protective way to do it than masks. Let me get to some text on this, to DAN57739. Dan, I grew up reading a lot of the newspaper each day, including Dear Abby and the Obituaries, that from Alexa.
00:08:27
Speaker 4: Wow.
00:08:29
Speaker 2: We've thought about doing Kind of a Dear Abby, though that's a little dated, no offense, Alexa, thing on this show. And I think we should start adding that feature because I think we would give great advice for all of those kind of real-life situations people often find themselves in, in relationships, et cetera. So I do think we'll start that segment. Dan, I have zero empathy for Omar or the process she's facing. She's an enemy of this country, a clearly fraudulent citizen, and a representative in our government. No mercy, Dan. Define what you're suggesting. Thank you. That's fair, and I did. Dan, it's almost Halloween. I should wear a Jason-style hockey mask. Boy, yeah. Trying to picture that. Dan, you seem like a pickleballer. Growing franchise biz is in trouble due to our e-cost. That gets real credit for the most interesting random text in a long time. if you're not familiar with pickleball, check it out. It is pretty awesome. And I say that as a guy who was dissing pickleball in the beginning, why are they putting lines in this tennis court? But it's so great because everybody can play and the rallies go longer. And that is a very, very cool thing. So thank you for your note on pickleball. I never thought about a franchise. That could be pretty cool. Dan, uh, The broadcast killing of the Army psychiatrist could lead to much terrorist network interdiction by you. Listen, I tweeted on this at Dan Kaplis, if you want to see my tweet on Secretary Hegseth saying they're going to live stream the execution of the terrorist who attacked our Army base at Fort Hood. What I did was I.
00:10:20
Speaker 2: Attached a statement from the Conference of Catholic Bishops condemning the live stream. And in my tweet, I say, I agree. You know, and I don't know if this is verbatim, but I think I said something like, I agree. You know, God did not bless this great nation with divine providence so we could live stream executions. We are better than that. And that's what I believe. We are just better than that. 303-713-8255, D-A-N-5-7-7-3-9. And I'm with the founders. I wholeheartedly believe as the founders did differences, they bet their lives on it, that God bless this nation and the revolution with divine providence, or else it wouldn't have worked. You're on the Dan Kaplan Show. 522, glad you're here. Wow, very spirited discussion today about the idea of Ice agents and masks. As you may know, Trump administration has sued Denver saying Denver's law against masking of ice agents is unconstitutional. It violates federal preemption. I expect the Trump administration will win that case either by agreement or ultimately in court. I think the broader issue for you is, hey, what do you think about masks on ice agents? You know, my dad was a cop for 30 years in Chicago. I agree completely. ICE agents, a specialized kind of law enforcement, they need their anonymity and it should be protected. I just think there's a better way to do it than masks. And I think the current masking isn't good for the ICE agents, isn't good for the agency. It's not consistent with what we're used to in America when we do have, you know, helmets and face shields and all of that for our law enforcement agencies. in those specialized situations, which certainly ice work is. So yeah, I just think there's a better way to do it. Alrighty, I want to get to some more of these texts and much more to get into the show as well. I do want to work this, and I'm so glad to see Cardinal Dolan do this. And just indulge me this for a second, okay, because it's a really big deal to me. And that is, we have so many great priests and bishops and cardinals in America. And, you know, like, I mean, we just have some phenomenal people, and Cardinal Dolan's one of them. We're blessed with, we've had this long line of great archbishops in Colorado, and we're blessed with another one, a true star in Archbishop Golka. But Cardinal Dolan's been one of the great ones, and it was really gutsy of him, and I was glad he came out and did this on Columbus Day.
00:13:01
Speaker 6: Hey everybody, I hope you celebrate Columbus Day with the vigor that we do here in New York. Cardinal Timothy Dolan here. It's a great day, yeah, for the Italians, but also for all of us as we honor Christopher Columbus, 1492, who discovered the.
00:13:17
Speaker 2: New world, America.
00:13:19
Speaker 6: He's, you know, faith, faith drove him. The first thing he did is plant a cross when they got off the boat in the new continents that he had discovered. He brought three priests with him to be able to spread the faith. So Christopher Columbus was not only an unparalleled explorer, he was also a missionary. He's criticized today, and some of it is deservedly. We all can be criticized. There's not a leader in the past except Jesus who was immune from criticism. So were there some things that accompanied Columbus in that are unsavory now. Yes, there are. I don't think he's to blame for them, but the conquistadors that came with them are. But I tell you this, his virtue, his heroism, his magnitude, that is so towering. And with the mercy of God, they would overshadow the few flaws that he had. So happy Columbus Day, everybody.
00:14:14
Speaker 2: Yeah, love seeing that. Love seeing that from Cardinal Dolan. And I think what has the left done with this day? Is it now Indigenous Peoples Day. Is that what the left has done? I'll look it up after the break. But, you know, my wife, I mean, this is really cool. I mean, she's got a really meaningful amount of Native American blood. I think you can see it in her when you look at her. And her family traces their lines back to Pocahontas. I think you can see that, too. Pocahontas would have been lucky to have been that beautiful. And that's why I have this. I wanted to get the license plate for my wife. Bip is my nickname for Bip, beautiful Indian princess. But she would not permit that. But the cool thing is she never used it. She never used it to get into school or any of that. I mean, she could have used that. She didn't need it. She got into top schools without it, but she never used it. She just enjoyed being Native American, a small percentage Native American, but much bigger, more Churchill. Or Elizabeth Warren. But yeah, so I guess we celebrate both at our home then. Indigenous Peoples Day and Columbus Day. But really glad to see the Cardinal come out in support of Columbus Day. 303-713-8255, D-A-N-5-7-7-3-9. As we talk about masks, yes or no for ICE agents. Denver says no in a law. Trump administration is sued. Says you can't control what federal agents wear. And I think Trump administration will win. What do you think? Personally, as I've said, I do think that our agents should have anonymity because of their specialized law enforcement work and the dangers that come with exposing their identity. But I don't think it should be a mask. I think it should be a more traditional kind of specialized, lightweight face shield, riot gear type headwear. So we'll continue to take calls and texts on that. But there's a lot more information. we need to be talking about today as well. Ilhan Omar, the DOJ, a raid of her home this morning. I want to get your reaction to that. I've got some strong feelings about that. I'm going to cover that. A comment on the Broncos. You know, those kind of gutsy, down-in-the-dirt kind of wins they got yesterday in San Diego. We all know, right, that every successful season has to have a few of those. So Very encouraged to see that. And then Jacksonville. I'm sorry, not Jacksonville. It's Seattle at home Thursday night. Are you working that game, Shannon? The Thursday night Bronco game? Yeah, you've got that game. Seattle. Wow.
00:16:55
Speaker 3: I'll be out in the parking lot before the game. I hope it doesn't rain.
00:16:59
Speaker 4: Wow.
00:16:59
Speaker 2: Yeah, let me check that forecast. I think it's going to clear by then. But wow. Talk about a tough task, but a great opportunity. A great breakthrough opportunity for the Broncos on Thursday night. 303-713-8255, DAN 57739. As we go back to the phone lines and the calls, I want to commend the Denver Post for their editorial saying no to 87. And I know it's tough to keep all these things straight, right? But 87 is the one that will dramatically raise the state income tax rates for high earners.
00:17:36
Speaker 4: And so.
00:17:37
Speaker 2: A lot of people are expecting it to pass because there's a lot of appeal in, hey, you know, 90-something percent will get a tax cut. But two things there. First, it's going to be, as the Post to their credit recognized, I haven't seen it for weeks here, it's going to be the working people who get hammered by Amendment 87 because it's going to cause some really good employers and other job creators to leave. I would extend the point. Those that don't leave, they'll be creating fewer jobs. Wages will increase more slowly, et cetera, because who do you think is going to pay for the money that's not going into these job creators' pockets anymore? It's not going to be the job creators. It's going to be other people, starting with the working people. And this state cannot be healthy, cannot be successful without working people.
00:18:30
Speaker 3: Mohammed El-Sayed. I call him Mohammed El-Sayed. Somebody said, his name isn't Mohammed. It's Abdul. I said, to me, it's Mohammed. I'm the president. I can call him whatever the hell I want. To me, he's Mohammed. And he's a radical jihadist. The guy's a jihadist.
00:18:47
Speaker 6: Look at his statements from two years ago.
00:18:49
Speaker 3: He's a jihadist.
00:18:50
Speaker 6: I don't want a jihadist as a senator from Michigan. I won Michigan, by the way, by a lot.
00:18:57
Speaker 3: Thank you very much.
00:18:57
Speaker 2: 536, hey, glad you're here on this glorious afternoon. As Shannon mentioned, we were talking about the Bronco Thursday night game coming up against Seattle. May still be some lingering rain then. Rain's supposed to start, I believe, on Wednesday, extend a little bit through Thursday. My gut tells me it'll be dry and perfect for kickoff Thursday night. Glad you're here. We got a lot going on. We're talking about, hey, do you want these masks on ice agents in Colorado? You know, Denver outlawed it and feds, hiffs, and what a joke. You can't tell us. what our federal agents can wear, so Denver has gone to court. They've sued, pardon me, Trump administration has sued Denver, and I expect Trump administration will prevail. But I think the bigger question is, what type of face coverings do you want for ICE? I think there's going to be near unanimous agreement that ICE agents, because of their specialized law enforcement work, should have anonymity and some kind of face covering. I just don't think it should be masks. I don't think that's consistent with the tradition of American law enforcement. I don't think it's a good look. I think it should be more of a face shield, you know, riot helmet type of look. But what do you think of all that? So we'll take some more calls on that. We're talking about the raid of Ilhan Omar's home this morning. And again, my only concern with it is whether they truly believe that she has committed a serious crime. Because again, I think, and I've said this about a handful of people over 30 years on air, I think she's reprehensible. I think she's anti-American. I think she's filled with hate toward this country. And I think she's dangerous to this country in an ideological type of way. But that doesn't mean she's committed a crime. And I just hope that we are not getting into a payback cycle of using DOJ to raid people and to prosecute people who should not be raided or prosecuted. I don't know what evidence they have on her. It would not surprise me because I think she is so awful in so many ways, it wouldn't surprise me if she has committed major crimes. And if she has, I want them rating her. I want them prosecuting her. But I don't know that. I don't know what evidence they have or don't have. All I'm saying is I hope they have a lot if she has truly committed crimes, because it will be very bad for this country if we're starting to do now what the Democrats did to Trump, because what the Democrats did to Trump threatens the very foundations of this country, the way they persecuted him and abused the legal system to try to destroy him. And that was a clear and present danger to this nation. And the voters rose up and said, we don't want to be a banana republic. But that goes both ways. So let's see what they have on Omar. And then we'll take that conversation from there. But I'm concerned because, you know, you take James Comey, please. I mean, I think James Comey is equally awful to Ilhan Omar. toxic, has done great harm to this nation. But I think the prosecution of James Comey was BS and shouldn't have been done. I think it was politically motivated. And we've got to be better than that just because they did it to Trump doesn't mean we're going to do it to them. Because we love this country and we love its foundations and we're not going to threaten its foundations the way the Democrats did. So let's see what they have on Omar. Maybe they got a lot. Wouldn't surprise me, but that's not proof. Thomas in incredibly beautiful Fort Collins here on the Dan Kaplan Show. Hey, can I give a little shout out, Thomas? Maybe you know this place. I don't get paid for it. In fact, we paid them. But when we were up in Fort Collins for that good long stretch involved in that big trial up there, we went to dinner one night at a place called Rare. Have you ever been there? In downtown Fort Collins?
00:23:10
Speaker 5: I have not been there, but I have heard good things. I don't go to Old Town a lot because it's not a place where you want to be at night. But actually, they have cleaned it up quite a bit.
00:23:23
Speaker 2: Yeah, I got to tell you, wherever we were, and I think we went an off night during the trial, so we must have been there on a Friday or Saturday night. All I wanted to say, and then we'll get back to this life and death stuff, is that restaurant called Rare in Fort Collins, everybody who went, ended up saying it was one of the best restaurants they've ever been to in their life.
00:23:43
Speaker 1: All right.
00:23:44
Speaker 5: Well, it's my anniversary this week, so I think maybe that's where I'll take my wife.
00:23:48
Speaker 2: Check it out. Check it out. Yeah. And if you don't like it, send me the bill. Shannon will pay it.
00:23:54
Speaker 5: All right. Speaking of wives, you mentioned Amy and that she's related to Pocahontas.
00:24:03
Speaker 2: Family legend goes, I cannot show you the paperwork.
00:24:07
Speaker 5: No, I understand, but.
00:24:10
Speaker 5: Do you then frequent with Senator Warren?
00:24:15
Speaker 2: No, no. I've never met Elizabeth Warren. Or are you related? Well, no, I don't think she is Native American, is she?
00:24:26
Speaker 5: I think she's been called Pocahontas before.
00:24:29
Speaker 2: Oh, yeah, I think Trump calls her Pocahontas as a joke, right?
00:24:32
Speaker 3: But that's... I think she claims to be.
00:24:37
Speaker 5: Yeah.
00:24:37
Speaker 2: And I hate that, man. That's why when Craig and I did the show together, we led the investigation into Ward Churchill. And I remember I spent thousands of dollars to pay for public records from CU drilling down to the truth about him. And I just think it. I just think that stolen valor thing when somebody comes in and claims to be a race that they're not or whatever. I just think that's awful, particularly if you may be taking a job from somebody who really is that race and the job's been set aside. You know, I just think that's an awful thing. But like with my wife, Thomas, I mean, she is, in fact, Native American to a, you know, small but meaningful percentage. She never used that. She never used that to get into a school or this or that. She didn't have to, true, but she didn't.
00:25:30
Speaker 5: Well, I believe that. And, yes, from those high cheekbones, I also suspect you are accurate.
00:25:37
Speaker 2: Yeah.
00:25:37
Speaker 5: I did call about the masks, and I would suggest that what would you think about the Lone Ranger masks? I mean, we're kind of on the subject of Pocahontas.
00:25:47
Speaker 4: Oh, man.
00:25:48
Speaker 2: That's wild. Everybody loves the Lone Ranger. Exactly.
00:25:52
Speaker 5: Wouldn't that be awesome?
00:25:54
Speaker 3: Oh, man.
00:25:55
Speaker 2: See, that's why I love this job. I love this audience. That is such a cool idea. Thank you, man. That is a cool idea. Thank you, Tom. Shannon, I never would have thought of that in a million years.
00:26:09
Speaker 3: Thank you, Kimo Sabe.
00:26:10
Speaker 2: Yes, yes. I remember I had to look up. I'm going to do it right now. I'm going to ask AI what Kimo Sabe means because I said that to somebody on air one day. Who's the we, Kimo Sabe? And somebody said, you can't say Kimo Sabe on air. And I said, yes, I can. There's nothing wrong with Kimo Sabe. I'm pulling it up right now on a chat box. What does Kimo Sabe mean? But it's nothing bad. It's like friend or partner, right? Is that right, Shannon?
00:26:40
Speaker 3: Linguistics experts claim it is Algonquin for scout.
00:26:46
Speaker 2: Scout? Who doesn't want to be a scout? Who doesn't want to be a scout? Yeah, okay. What a brilliant idea. What do you think of that? I've got to open that up to callers and texters. Thomas from Fort Collins suggests the Lone Ranger mask. That would be a whole different vibe, wouldn't it? Now, I'd love to hear, including from our many law enforcement friends, would that provide enough anonymity? The cool factor would be through the roof. I love that. Hi-oh, Silver! That's Lone Ranger, right? Any chance we could come back with some Lone Ranger music? Or if not Lone Ranger.
00:27:33
Speaker 3: The William Tell Overture.
00:27:35
Speaker 2: Or Bonanza? As a second. But Lone Ranger would be better.
00:27:39
Speaker 3: I can do that.
00:27:40
Speaker 2: Oh, thank you. You're the man. Wow. That may be one of the great calls we've had in decades. What do you think of ice agents in the Lone Ranger masks? Because that's also the Zorro mask, right? Because Amy, like for years, had me dress up as Zorro on Halloween. Then I finally figured out what was going on there. You're on the Dan Kaplan Show.
00:28:07
Speaker 4: Yeah.
00:28:08
Speaker 5: Yeah.
00:28:08
Speaker 2: Wow. Thank you for pulling that, Shannon. Thank you. I love that William Teller overture. And I wouldn't expect any mere mortal to know the answer to this, including Shannon, who truly is like our A.I., But what band that achieved substantial national notoriety would open their concerts with that? It's the William Tell Overture, right? You know, what major rock group would open their concerts that way? Any guesses?
00:28:42
Speaker 4: No.
00:28:43
Speaker 2: Styx. Styx. Yeah, they would open their concert with that. You know how I know? because I was in a Catholic seminary for my high school years. I was student body president. We needed a fundraiser. And somebody said, I don't know if it was my mom, oh, those nice boys down the street have a band. And I said, oh, that's right, Styx. Because Styx started in our neighborhood. And they were known as TW4 before Styx, and then they became Styx. So somehow we got Styx, and this was after they became big, to come and play at our seminary. our seminary fundraiser. We couldn't really call it a dance because, you know, they did have some dances at the seminary. But yeah, so Sticks agreed to come play. And I just went in and explained to Father Fahey, the rector, hey, the band, good band, all those guys grew up in the neighborhood a couple blocks down. And Styx comes to our high school. And then all of a sudden, I mean, the crowds. There were thousands of people who could not get in that night at our high school, at our seminary, trying to get into our gym to see Styx. And that's how they opened the show, the 1812 Overture. Heck of a show, too. Heck of a show. I did have some explaining to do afterwards. But hey, that was fun. 303-713-8255, D-A-N-57739. I do want to get to some more text before the end of the show today. Nothing new on the Ilhan Omar thing. We don't know yet what... We haven't seen the arrest warrant. Pardon me, the search warrant. There's no arrest. We haven't seen the affidavit in support of that. We don't know what the underlying... alleged offenses are. We don't know what they were targeting, but we will bring you information as we receive it. Kimo Sabe, according to AI, is commonly understood to mean faithful friend or trustee scout. And the reason that Shannon played all that, by the way, and that we're talking about Kimo Sabe is a tremendous suggestion. I want to think it through a little bit before formally endorsing it, but Much of the show has been spent talking about should ICE agents wear masks because Denver is outlawed it, Trump administration is sued, saying a city can't tell the federal government how to dress federal agents. I expect the Trump administration will win. But do you want ICE agents in masks? I think the vast majority of us agree that ICE agents, because of the specialized law enforcement work they do, is that they need anonymity. in most situations. But instead of masks, I think there should be a different kind of head covering, protective, face shield, maybe more akin to what we see in riot gear, but specially tailored for ICE agents. I think that's a better approach and hopefully would be better for the ICE agents, the vast majority of whom I think are just tremendous public servants who save a lot of lives. So that's how we got into this whole Lone Ranger thing, because a caller, Tom from Fort Collins, he called up and he said, hey, what about Lone Ranger masks?
00:32:06
Speaker 5: Wow.
00:32:07
Speaker 2: What do you think of that idea? Cool factor would be off the charts. I'd love to hear from some of the law enforcement men and women in the audience. Do you think from an anonymity standpoint, the kind of anonymity that ICE needs here, Do you think that would do the trick? And isn't that kind of a Zorro thing too? I do think that's kind of a Zorro thing as well. I want to get you some sound. I love this sound from Cardinal Dolan on Columbus Day. Timothy Dolan from New York, recently retired, but still a major world figure in the church.
00:32:43
Speaker 6: Hey everybody, I hope you celebrate Columbus Day with the vigor that we do here in New York. Cardinal Timothy Dolan here. It's a great day, yeah, for the Italians, but also for all of us as we honor Christopher Columbus, 1492, who discovered.
00:32:58
Speaker 2: The new world, America.
00:33:01
Speaker 6: He's, you know, faith, faith drove him. The first thing he did is plant a cross. when they got off the boat in the new continents that he had discovered. He brought three priests with him to be able to spread the faith. So Christopher Columbus was not only an unparalleled explorer, he was also a missionary. He's criticized today, and some of it deservedly. We all can be criticized. There's not a leader in the past except Jesus who was immune from criticism. So were there some things that accompanied Columbus that are unsavory now. Yes, there are. I don't think he's to blame for them, but the conquistadors that came with them are. But I tell you this, his virtue, his heroism, his magnitude, that is so towering. And with the mercy of God, they would overshadow the few flaws that he had. So happy Columbus Day, everybody.
00:33:55
Speaker 2: Oh, I love that from Cardinal Dolan. Hey, Lauren Boebert is going to debate Eileen Laubacher in CD4 coming up in about three and a half minutes. And that's going to be on Channel 9, Kyle Clark doing that debate. I think it's the only significant debate that he's going to do this entire cycle. I think that this will be fun to watch. We'll have highlights tomorrow. Lauren, she's just fearless. We know that, right? And her opponent, Eileen Laubacher, is a highly intelligent, very accomplished person as well. So this, I think, is going to be a very impressive debate coming up. as long as it's moderated properly, and we'll have that sound tomorrow also. Shannon Scott, you are the man, the myth, the legend, the icon. It is always a privilege to work with you, my friend. Hope everybody enjoys this beautiful late summer evening, and I look forward to God and management willing to get them together tomorrow. Let's call it 4.05, to be precise, on the Dan Kaplan Show.
