St John’s Cranbourne | Christ Church Tooradin
Welcome to church! If you’re new here, we’re so glad you’ve come and look forward to getting to know you better.
How do you handle hard times? Many would say these days on a broad scale are hard times, with looming threats of AI, climate change, wars proliferating, and cost of living rising and rising. It can be a hard time for some individually too, perhaps you are struggling with an injustice done to you personally, or you see how the courts or system as a whole seems to be rigged towards those who have the money to play the game. In these times, do you question God? Many people in the pages of the Bible do, and for much the same reasons as we do – why does God let these injustices happen?
Today we begin a short three-week series on the book of Habakkuk. Unlike many of the minor prophets who denounce Judah or Israel or the countries surrounding publicly, Habakkuk is a record of one man’s journey from questioning God in the face of injustice to peaceful, trusting commitment to Him. Strap yourself in though, because that journey has a number of unexpected twists, and isn’t satisfied to give simplistic or easy answers.
Bible Readings for our Service today:
Habakkuk 1:1-11
Habakkuk 1:12-17
Psalm 13
Luke 18:1-8
Collect:
Our Lord and God, you are from of old, you are the Holy One; yet the world is full of injustice. In your mercy bring your justice, that peace may come and your name be glorified, for you are our Rock in whom we trust, through Jesus who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen.

Baptism & Confirmation – 8 November 2026
We look forward to celebrating Baptism and Confirmation on Sunday, 8th November 2026. If you would like to be baptised or confirmed, please add your name to the sign-up sheet in the foyer. For further information, please speak with Sam.
Support for Food Bank
Thank you so much to everyone who has been supporting our food bank with donations of food and essential supplies. If you are able, please bring along some essential items and place them under the counter in the narthex, near the church office at St. John’s. To help ensure the food can be shared safely, please give items with a long shelf life or expiry date. They are urgently in need of the following items: long life milk-full cream and light, canned tuna, oats, meal bases (for example, box kits like taco, jar sauces like honey mustard chicken, sweet & sour chicken etc.) and personal hygiene items (individually wrapped).
Affordable Housing
St John’s has an opportunity to join with other local churches in a friendly ecumenical effort to encourage greater action on homelessness in our community. We are asking members of our congregation to sign a postcard calling for more action to address homelessness and provide affordable housing. Postcards are available in the foyer, so please take a moment to pick one up and add your signature and pop your cards in the box.
Safe Driving Awareness Presentation
You are warmly invited to attend a Safe Driving Awareness Presentation on Saturday, 3rd October 2026, at 10am to 12pm, to be held at St John’s Anglican Church. This presentation is FREE of charge. Michael and Andrew Cooney will be our presenters. Both are professionally trained Driver Training Consultants with valuable knowledge and experience to share. This is a wonderful opportunity to refresh your driving skills and knowledge, learn new skills, and increase your confidence, safety and awareness on the road.
To register for this training, please scan the QR code or there are sign-up sheets in the narthex that you can put your name down. Last date for registration is 30th of September 2026.
Come and Join a Small Group
If you are not yet part of a Bible study group, we warmly encourage you to consider joining one. Small groups are a wonderful way to grow in faith, share life together, and support one another in prayer and fellowship. If you would like to be part of a group, please add your name and preferred days to the sign-up sheets in the narthex, and we will be in touch with you.
Nine Lessons and Carols
We would like to invite anyone interested in joining the choir to sing at the Nine Lessons and Carols service on 5 December. No previous choral experience is required; however, a love of singing is most welcome. Practice is underway and it’s not too late to join. Rehearsals are held on Sundays from 12:30–2:00pm.
God’s grace is entirely free! If you’re a visitor, don’t feel like you must give. Regular members give out of thankfulness for all that God has already given. The plate is passed around during the service for those who give by cash, and if you would like to give to the church electronically, the details are below – just be sure to reference it ‘Giving’:
