dot net. Well, now we're going to get into today's episode,
12
00:00:48.399 --> 00:00:52.600
which is one of those titles I'm not a particular
13
00:00:52.719 --> 00:00:56.399
fan of, but I'll talk a little bit about why afterwards.
14
00:00:56.560 --> 00:01:01.399
More importantly, though, this episode does mark the start of
15
00:01:01.679 --> 00:01:06.959
a street of consecutive episodes in circulation. And this is
16
00:01:07.000 --> 00:01:12.200
a big deal because heretofore, we've brought you fourteen episodes
17
00:01:12.840 --> 00:01:16.879
spread with throughout the first three hundred and eighty four
18
00:01:16.920 --> 00:01:19.840
episodes aired, so we'll get more of a sense of
19
00:01:19.879 --> 00:01:23.040
what it was like to listen to the series. At
20
00:01:23.120 --> 00:01:27.879
least if you were listening in nineteen forty nine. But
21
00:01:28.120 --> 00:01:32.719
let's go ahead and now from August ninth, nineteen forty nine.

00:03:09.280 --> 00:03:21.879
when Petsy now to Coppers five. Shortly after midnight last
44
00:03:21.960 --> 00:03:25.199
February third, a heavy truck carrying ten tons of high
45
00:03:25.240 --> 00:03:28.560
explosives to a government arsenal was rolling along a foggy,
46
00:03:28.599 --> 00:03:31.800
mountainous stretch of Highway nine W in eastern Pennsylvania.
47
00:03:36.319 --> 00:03:48.199
The driver, Larry Mason, held the wheel typely. Hey, Vince, Yeah, Prince,
48
00:03:48.240 --> 00:03:52.199

I'm a love of Mike.
51
00:03:58.439 --> 00:04:00.319

I'm cunning.
95
00:06:19.800 --> 00:06:22.040
Hurry out this Fifield office.
96
00:06:22.120 --> 00:06:25.120
Huh yeah, nine o'clock to identified the guy who killed
97
00:06:25.199 --> 00:06:25.759

How about a lived Oh you got a friend of
99
00:06:29.240 --> 00:06:32.879

101
00:06:34.000 --> 00:06:34.560
Good enough.
102
00:06:36.399 --> 00:06:40.560
Happen, Larry, it's a friend of mine. Mister marangell Larry
103
00:06:40.600 --> 00:06:48.040
mat Hi you good morning, you win, Steve, take off, Larry.
104
00:06:48.319 --> 00:06:50.639
I have been telling mister Marango what pals you only
105
00:06:50.720 --> 00:06:51.639
Vince Dubien.
106
00:06:51.399 --> 00:06:52.920
Where Vince was a Greek guy.
107
00:06:53.160 --> 00:06:57.040
Yes, it was an unfortunate accident, Larry, wasn't an accident.
108
00:06:57.120 --> 00:06:59.920
Mister Moringo, that rotten dog just shut vinced.
109
00:07:00.160 --> 00:07:02.560
I understand the Connor spy has already picked up the
110
00:07:02.600 --> 00:07:05.639
guy who killed Vince from the description you gave him. Yeah,
111
00:07:06.079 --> 00:07:09.160
character named Sid Bollow. All I need now is for
112
00:07:09.199 --> 00:07:11.279
you to pick the guy out of the lineup. I'll
113
00:07:11.360 --> 00:07:13.680
never forget that kill his face. I'll pick him out,
114
00:07:13.680 --> 00:07:17.360
all right, Larry, maybe you won't pick Barlow out.
115
00:07:18.360 --> 00:07:19.800
Why wouldn't I hang it on? Follow?
116
00:07:19.800 --> 00:07:24.120
If he's the guy, tell him, Steve, Larry. Three years
117
00:07:24.160 --> 00:07:26.160
ago a can got out of the state jug in
118
00:07:26.240 --> 00:07:32.199
Ohio after a stretch from manslaughter truck accident. Yes, he
119
00:07:32.279 --> 00:07:35.720
comes here to Pittsburgh, changes his name to Larry Mason,
120
00:07:35.759 --> 00:07:38.120
and gets a job with our company as truck driver
121
00:07:39.160 --> 00:07:40.920
under false pretenses.
122
00:07:42.120 --> 00:07:42.720
How did you know?
123
00:07:42.879 --> 00:07:46.480
Also, Larry, last year you married a very lovely girl.
124
00:07:46.839 --> 00:07:50.720
I'll say, But of course you didn't tell Carol about
125
00:07:50.720 --> 00:07:53.040
your prison term. Didn't you listen to Carol doesn't know?
126
00:07:53.399 --> 00:07:56.399
Hurt her? Hey, Larry, Harold doesn't have to know, don't
127
00:07:56.439 --> 00:08:00.600
you see, mister Morango, nobody asked to know to Larry.
128
00:08:01.319 --> 00:08:02.839
So that's the setup, Steve.
129
00:08:02.920 --> 00:08:05.839
It's a quarter to nine. We will drive Larry down
130
00:08:05.879 --> 00:08:08.120
to the countess by field office. Mister Harding will be
131
00:08:08.199 --> 00:08:23.480
waiting for it. Mister Harding, here's Larry made mister Hay,
132
00:08:23.600 --> 00:08:25.879
good morning Larry to down here, repeaters me.
133
00:08:26.120 --> 00:08:27.399
Yes, there's our.
134
00:08:27.399 --> 00:08:30.000
Lineup room, Larry. In a few seconds, several men will
135
00:08:30.040 --> 00:08:33.519
come out on that platform up there behind glass sid
136
00:08:33.639 --> 00:08:37.559
Barlow among them, I want you to pick out the killer. Yes,
137
00:08:38.200 --> 00:08:40.080
the lights are so arranged that we can see the men,
138
00:08:40.120 --> 00:08:44.639
but they can't see us and they can't hear us either. Conway, Yes,
139
00:08:44.720 --> 00:08:49.639
mister Hoddy already Conway. You can send them on, Yes, sir, okay, boys,
140
00:08:49.679 --> 00:08:57.240
you want it on stage? There they are, Larry. Well,
141
00:08:58.759 --> 00:09:01.440
the second man from the left looks something like him.
142
00:09:01.960 --> 00:09:04.200
Take your time. Well, I'm not positive, now, you know.
143
00:09:04.279 --> 00:09:06.559
I only when we saw the killer from the side
144
00:09:07.559 --> 00:09:07.759
just a.
145
00:09:07.799 --> 00:09:12.759
Minute, Conway. Second man from the left turned to the right.
146
00:09:13.480 --> 00:09:15.840
Second man from the left turn to the right.
147
00:09:17.960 --> 00:09:21.080
He seems taller. You see the man you described to
148
00:09:21.200 --> 00:09:23.480
us the other day. Well, I'm not so sure now
149
00:09:23.799 --> 00:09:26.960
you know it was dark that night. There is Vince
150
00:09:26.960 --> 00:09:30.519
Stugan was your closest friend. You have a deep personal
151
00:09:30.559 --> 00:09:32.440
interest in bringing his murderer to trial.
152
00:09:32.679 --> 00:09:36.440
Sure. Sure, But there's even more to this case. Recently,
153
00:09:36.440 --> 00:09:39.720
a number of trucks carrying natropintuline, a powerful explosive, have
154
00:09:39.840 --> 00:09:42.759
been hijacked. Yes, that's what we were carrying the other night, Larry.
155
00:09:43.279 --> 00:09:46.440
We suspect that some big international ranketeer is shipping the
156
00:09:46.559 --> 00:09:49.559
stolen explosive to a dangerous anti American group in the
157
00:09:49.639 --> 00:09:53.639
Far East to make all kinds of international trouble. Yes, sir,
158
00:09:54.080 --> 00:09:55.960
I see now, if you can point out the killer,
159
00:09:56.919 --> 00:10:01.360
you will be helping us smash a dangerous international racket. Now,
160
00:10:02.559 --> 00:10:05.320
can you identify one of those men as the murderer
161
00:10:05.360 --> 00:10:11.159
of Vince Steuben? Mister Hoddy, he he's not there, not
162
00:10:11.320 --> 00:10:15.279
the one who killed Vince Stupen. Mason, your original description
163
00:10:15.360 --> 00:10:18.080
of the murderer was an amazingly exact one, in detailed.
164
00:10:18.600 --> 00:10:21.200
You were eager to see him punished. I'd like to
165
00:10:21.279 --> 00:10:36.720
know what's changed your mind. All right, Mason, you can go. Yeah, Larry,
166
00:10:36.799 --> 00:10:38.960
this is Steve. I left the message for you to
167
00:10:39.080 --> 00:10:42.200
call me. That's no meta date for you with mister Marengo.
168
00:10:42.360 --> 00:10:45.840
You had better come eight o'clock tonight in his penthouse apartment.
169
00:10:45.840 --> 00:10:46.559
I'll pick you up.
170
00:10:52.799 --> 00:10:53.120
Larry.
171
00:10:53.279 --> 00:10:56.080
I want to thank you for not identifying Barlow yesterday
172
00:10:56.120 --> 00:10:57.399
at the Countress by Field Off.
173
00:10:57.519 --> 00:10:58.559
Keep your thanks Marengo.
174
00:10:58.639 --> 00:11:00.960
Larry, that's no way to act at the Marengo. There's
175
00:11:01.000 --> 00:11:03.039
nothing to talk about, Steve. You two got what you wanted.
176
00:11:03.120 --> 00:11:05.639
That was the deal, Yes, Larry, that was that deal.
177
00:11:06.240 --> 00:11:08.200
Now I have a new deal for you. Chance to
178
00:11:08.279 --> 00:11:10.879
make some real del Larry, not them easily tell you
179
00:11:10.960 --> 00:11:14.320
get for pushing the truck around for our company. Unsatisfied,
180
00:11:16.080 --> 00:11:19.679
nothing so stubborn as a reformed convict. The is, Larry.
181
00:11:20.039 --> 00:11:22.360
I am scheduling here to take a lot of explosives
182
00:11:22.399 --> 00:11:24.879
for the company tomorrow night to another arsenal at Bay
183
00:11:25.000 --> 00:11:29.480
City alone. That powder don't get today city. You see, Larry,
184
00:11:29.960 --> 00:11:32.080
some of my men will be waiting to meet your
185
00:11:32.120 --> 00:11:34.200
truck in the highway at the Marengo. And it all
186
00:11:34.240 --> 00:11:36.559
set up. Larry. All you do is take one on
187
00:11:36.679 --> 00:11:38.360
the chin to make the high tack look clean.
188
00:11:38.519 --> 00:11:40.440
Nothing doing. It's no deal, Maringo.
189
00:11:40.519 --> 00:11:41.960
I paid you off. I did what you wanted one
190
00:11:42.000 --> 00:11:45.039
do Larry? What about David hiding?
191
00:11:46.039 --> 00:11:46.360
Honey?
192
00:11:47.120 --> 00:11:49.559
What do you mean, Larry? You did a very bad
193
00:11:49.720 --> 00:11:53.840
thing when you took the finger off, said Barlow. You
194
00:11:54.080 --> 00:12:01.080
the next calm, deliberately deceived, hurting you see, you have
195
00:12:01.279 --> 00:12:05.679
to accept my offer. My man will expect you tomorrow night.
196
00:12:16.440 --> 00:12:18.679
What does that up, Peter, Larry Mason's taking a load
197
00:12:18.679 --> 00:12:21.320
of explosives to the Bay City arsenal tonight, Dave alone.
198
00:12:22.000 --> 00:12:24.200
It's a perfect situation for Mason to allow himself to
199
00:12:24.240 --> 00:12:25.600
be hijacked. But do we allow it?
200
00:12:25.679 --> 00:12:27.039
Dave tell you what.
201
00:12:27.600 --> 00:12:30.799
We'll set up observation posts all along Mason's route now, besides,
202
00:12:30.960 --> 00:12:33.159
you tail him in a car, take at least three
203
00:12:33.240 --> 00:12:35.759
more men armed for a capture if necessary. I'll keep
204
00:12:35.799 --> 00:12:37.600
in touch with all of you from the communications room.
205
00:12:45.559 --> 00:12:50.440
Mister adding Conway, reporting from Greenvale Drop driven by Larry Mason.
206
00:12:50.639 --> 00:12:54.799
Stop here at eleven thirty five PM while he was
207
00:12:54.879 --> 00:12:58.559
cleaning his lights, and I checked his phenometer reading twenty
208
00:12:58.799 --> 00:13:01.639
two thousand, one hundred fourteen.
209
00:13:01.360 --> 00:13:06.799
Miles in veil, eleven thirty five driving time checks, many checks.
210
00:13:07.039 --> 00:13:14.639
Thanks, Conny, I'm supporting from fine city, mister Honey. Very
211
00:13:14.759 --> 00:13:19.480
Mason's time here one o five am phenometer reading Conny
212
00:13:19.559 --> 00:13:22.519
good dollars three hundred and sixty seven.
213
00:13:22.840 --> 00:13:25.519
Time and many check. And Adam Peters and three men
214
00:13:25.600 --> 00:13:27.720
are tailing Mason's sucking a car ready for a couple
215
00:13:27.759 --> 00:13:29.759
if it comes, keep an eye out for them.
216
00:13:33.519 --> 00:13:35.320
Peter is call me, honey, pursuing car.
217
00:13:35.600 --> 00:13:36.200
Something up?
218
00:13:36.360 --> 00:13:36.679
What is it?
219
00:13:37.200 --> 00:13:37.519
Why?
220
00:13:38.360 --> 00:13:39.919
Kind of your car? The main highway?
221
00:13:40.519 --> 00:13:41.519
What's your location? Now?
222
00:13:41.840 --> 00:13:44.759
Good road often leading up into the mountain.
223
00:13:45.360 --> 00:13:47.320
That's an even better spot for a plan. Hijacking in
224
00:13:47.360 --> 00:13:50.159
the highway, Peter, keep following, keep me in form.
225
00:13:53.159 --> 00:13:54.240
Peter, Honey.
226
00:13:55.919 --> 00:13:58.159
Run of the Bay City, throwing out into them.
227
00:13:58.600 --> 00:14:00.799
You mean nothing unusual happening on long detour he took
228
00:14:00.799 --> 00:14:03.960
through the mountain. The driver doesn't take a truckload of
229
00:14:04.000 --> 00:14:06.320
high explosive on a dangerous detour just for the thrill.
230
00:14:06.840 --> 00:14:19.200
Take close to him. Let's see what he does next. Dave, Hey, Dave,
231
00:14:19.279 --> 00:14:24.480
wake up. Oh I dozed off my chair waiting all
232
00:14:24.559 --> 00:14:26.679
my for you to come again. What are you doing
233
00:14:26.720 --> 00:14:28.639
back here in Pittsburgh? I telled Mason all the way
234
00:14:28.679 --> 00:14:31.960
back from Bay City. No trouble. Admittedly it looked like
235
00:14:32.000 --> 00:14:34.519
a hijack set up at first, but knowing happened, he
236
00:14:34.639 --> 00:14:36.360
came back, left his truck in the main garage and
237
00:14:36.440 --> 00:14:40.080
went home. Larry Mason is a very puzzling young man.
238
00:14:41.080 --> 00:14:43.240
You don't have to find some way of unpuzzling him.
239
00:15:04.000 --> 00:15:04.440
What there?
240
00:15:04.679 --> 00:15:07.559
Sorry? I woke you, Carol, you.
241
00:15:07.799 --> 00:15:10.679
Larry, you kid? You wouldn't be back in then city
242
00:15:10.799 --> 00:15:11.480
until tomorrow.
243
00:15:11.759 --> 00:15:12.799
Well, we have no phone here.
244
00:15:12.799 --> 00:15:16.399
I couldn't call you, darling. What are you doing? Where's
245
00:15:16.399 --> 00:15:18.159
my suitcase? It's in your car?
246
00:15:18.279 --> 00:15:24.559
Then I'll get it, Larry, what's wrong?
247
00:15:25.360 --> 00:15:26.519
I'm just taking my clothes.
248
00:15:27.279 --> 00:15:27.960
Larry, Please?
249
00:15:28.360 --> 00:15:31.240
What happened? Larry?
250
00:15:31.240 --> 00:15:31.840
You're in trouble.
251
00:15:32.960 --> 00:15:33.960
There's no trouble.
252
00:15:34.320 --> 00:15:36.320
I'm just fed it with Pittsburgh. That's not true.
253
00:15:37.919 --> 00:15:43.639
You're running out on me, aren't you, Carol?
254
00:15:44.000 --> 00:15:44.279
Karen?
255
00:15:44.960 --> 00:15:48.639
Honest, Honey, I wasn't running Listen, Carol, I'm in a jam.
256
00:15:49.080 --> 00:15:49.240
See.
257
00:15:49.360 --> 00:15:51.440
I have to get out of Pittsburgh now tonight. I
258
00:15:51.519 --> 00:15:54.320
don't care what it is. If you just tell me, well,
259
00:15:54.320 --> 00:15:57.159
there's no time to tell you. Will you come with me, Larry? No,
260
00:15:57.320 --> 00:15:59.919
I will old times not to have a phone.
261
00:16:00.799 --> 00:16:03.120
Look, I'll go down to the question the airport and
262
00:16:03.200 --> 00:16:05.720
get tickets now fast. All right, you pack, grab a
263
00:16:05.799 --> 00:16:07.000
taxi and meet me at the airport.
264
00:16:06.799 --> 00:16:07.320
As soon as you can.
265
00:16:07.799 --> 00:16:21.120
And don't worry, honey, Everything's going to be fine, just fine, Jessey.
266
00:16:21.399 --> 00:16:26.559
Jasey Creston airport driver?
267
00:16:26.679 --> 00:16:26.919
Please?
268
00:16:28.039 --> 00:16:29.720
Will you help me with some suitcases that they're on
269
00:16:29.799 --> 00:16:30.159
the porch?
270
00:16:30.759 --> 00:16:32.519
Mason going someplace?
271
00:16:33.639 --> 00:16:33.799
Well?
272
00:16:34.000 --> 00:16:37.519
Yes, who are you care? Just a minute?
273
00:16:37.519 --> 00:16:42.440
I told you to get out, okay, palace, go let
274
00:16:42.480 --> 00:16:43.399
me out of here. Do you hear?
275
00:16:46.080 --> 00:16:47.399
Where where are you taking me?
276
00:16:48.000 --> 00:16:48.639
What do you want?
277
00:16:49.000 --> 00:16:50.799
I want you to give a message to your husband.
278
00:16:51.759 --> 00:16:55.200
What a special kind of message, mister Mason. Kind your
279
00:16:55.320 --> 00:16:59.600
husband will understand. What are you talking about this, Mason.
280
00:17:00.679 --> 00:17:02.919
The next time your husband is told to do something,
281
00:17:03.000 --> 00:17:05.680
it's got to be done right, no side roads, no standards.
282
00:17:06.680 --> 00:17:10.319
Next time he delivers or something fatal will happen to
283
00:17:10.400 --> 00:17:16.920
you again too. That's the message, now, missus Mason. Just
284
00:17:17.160 --> 00:17:19.480
make sure he gets the message.
285
00:17:19.119 --> 00:17:35.519
Straight back to counter spy in a moment.
286
00:17:35.839 --> 00:17:39.680
But first, pets Nicola, pets the glasses.
287
00:17:39.799 --> 00:17:42.640
That's a lot lots more value, lots more dest Why
288
00:17:42.759 --> 00:17:44.160
take less when petsi is dead?
289
00:17:44.359 --> 00:17:47.000
More and more among fellows and girls, among mothers and dads,
290
00:17:47.039 --> 00:17:49.759
you hear that sane and sensible question. Why take less
291
00:17:49.880 --> 00:17:53.160
when pepsi is dead? No budget, no allowance ever had
292
00:17:53.200 --> 00:17:57.039
a better friend than Tangy's sparkling pepsicola. Because one big
293
00:17:57.119 --> 00:18:00.440
twelve out pepsi bottle gives you two delicious drinks. That's
294
00:18:00.519 --> 00:18:03.720
twice as much tangy taste, twice as much delicious pepsi
295
00:18:04.119 --> 00:18:06.880
to go just twice as far. That's why more and
296
00:18:07.000 --> 00:18:11.119
more families say, why take less when Pepsi's bet? Yes,
297
00:18:11.279 --> 00:18:14.519
family is like yours and mine family's all over America.
298
00:18:14.920 --> 00:18:18.480
They're all saying, why take less? When Pepsi's bet.
299
00:18:18.599 --> 00:18:21.759
Pepsi calls so delicious, and this bottle makes two drinks.
300
00:18:21.960 --> 00:18:26.359
It is certainly the cola for the purchaser who thinks everybody's.
301
00:18:25.680 --> 00:18:27.799
Thinking Pepsi does compare it with the rest.
302
00:18:27.960 --> 00:18:30.079
So what, Mrs Homas Spiner? Why take less?
303
00:18:30.119 --> 00:18:34.160
When Pepsi says today tomorrow, always get America's biggest cold
304
00:18:34.200 --> 00:18:36.400
up at you take home a carton of six big,
305
00:18:36.680 --> 00:18:40.559
big Pepsi bottles. Insist on Pepsi at the store and
306
00:18:40.799 --> 00:18:44.079
say Pepsi at the fountain, Say Pepsi at the fan,
307
00:18:44.359 --> 00:18:47.279
Say Pepsi whenever you reach for refreshment.
308
00:18:47.519 --> 00:18:52.759
Remember why take less? When Pepsi's bed Now back to
309
00:18:52.920 --> 00:18:53.759
Compers five.
310
00:18:55.440 --> 00:18:59.839
Seven airlines now loading a game?
311
00:19:00.079 --> 00:19:10.920
Are Oh, Larry, huh oh, mister mister Huntings and that
312
00:19:11.079 --> 00:19:12.839
carra over there he wants to talk with Well, I'm sorry,
313
00:19:12.920 --> 00:19:13.759
I mean to hurry, Larry.
314
00:19:13.799 --> 00:19:17.039
Mister Hunting said he wanted to talk to you. Okay,
315
00:19:20.519 --> 00:19:28.480
all right, get him. Oh Larry, I'm afraid you're not
316
00:19:28.640 --> 00:19:32.000
leaving town. Larry. What I saw you buy two plane
317
00:19:32.039 --> 00:19:33.000
tickets ten minutes ago.
318
00:19:33.279 --> 00:19:35.279
So you saw me buy tickets? That a crime?
319
00:19:36.119 --> 00:19:38.319
Larry, you're a material witness in a murder case. I
320
00:19:38.400 --> 00:19:40.319
could have you held in companty with this. Yes, I
321
00:19:40.960 --> 00:19:44.359
guess you could, but I'm not going to. Instead, we're
322
00:19:44.359 --> 00:19:47.039
going back to your home. When we get there, you
323
00:19:47.160 --> 00:19:48.759
and your wife and I my wife.
324
00:19:49.200 --> 00:19:50.799
She's got nothing to do with all this, Larry.
325
00:19:50.839 --> 00:19:54.960
A few hours ago we received certain files. They explained
326
00:19:55.039 --> 00:19:58.160
some of your recent actions. Now I want you to
327
00:19:58.240 --> 00:20:00.559
be completely honest with me, like what right along?
328
00:20:01.279 --> 00:20:01.519
Larry?
329
00:20:01.559 --> 00:20:03.240
We not only want to clean up his hijack case
330
00:20:03.279 --> 00:20:06.160
and Vince Jugan's murderer, but we also want to help
331
00:20:06.240 --> 00:20:08.200
you and missus Maylane tell you she doesn't know anything.
332
00:20:08.200 --> 00:20:10.079
A possible emergency flash.
333
00:20:09.880 --> 00:20:12.920
Mat Towning Peters car go ahead, Conway.
334
00:20:13.279 --> 00:20:13.960
Where are you now?
335
00:20:14.079 --> 00:20:17.400
Peters? Right outside Creston Airport with mister Harding good on
336
00:20:17.559 --> 00:20:18.720
that hijacking cage.
337
00:20:18.759 --> 00:20:20.680
We just got a flash from the city hospital.
338
00:20:20.920 --> 00:20:25.200
A woman identified as missus Larry Mason just brought out of.
339
00:20:25.200 --> 00:20:27.559
The emergency ward. She was beaten and.
340
00:20:27.759 --> 00:20:29.039
Thrown from a moving car.
341
00:20:29.640 --> 00:20:31.359
He's got a hospital was at the airport. I knew
342
00:20:31.359 --> 00:20:34.119
he had gone out there. What's missus Mason conditioned Conway,
343
00:20:34.759 --> 00:20:35.400
very larious.
344
00:20:35.680 --> 00:20:38.839
He's been given senative. Can you re locate Larry Mason?
345
00:20:38.880 --> 00:20:39.680
That he's right with it?
346
00:20:39.799 --> 00:20:42.000
We head for the hospital. Step only, Peter.
347
00:20:42.119 --> 00:20:48.759
You's your firing right, Larry, now when you cooperate with
348
00:20:48.839 --> 00:20:53.559
its All along, you've been trying to protect your wife, Evage.
349
00:20:53.880 --> 00:20:56.480
That's right. She didn't know about your record, did you
350
00:20:57.000 --> 00:20:57.279
you know?
351
00:20:57.440 --> 00:21:00.759
No, it was a coun No. I never told Taryl,
352
00:21:00.759 --> 00:21:02.119
and I was sure shirked not to.
353
00:21:03.200 --> 00:21:05.119
Oh kay, mister honey, how do you want me to
354
00:21:05.160 --> 00:21:05.440
help you?
355
00:21:06.000 --> 00:21:07.119
After we see your wife?
356
00:21:07.160 --> 00:21:25.960
But I think you can start working back in that garage. Hey, Larry,
357
00:21:26.559 --> 00:21:30.759
I want to talk to you. Yeh see, I'm stuntyful
358
00:21:30.920 --> 00:21:33.839
taking a detour last night and ducking the hijacked set up.
359
00:21:34.079 --> 00:21:36.160
I thought it was a good stunt. I'm giving you
360
00:21:36.279 --> 00:21:39.240
one more chance for you. Ruys say, don't disappoint mister
361
00:21:39.319 --> 00:21:43.640
Marengo again. What's the deal. I'm scheduling you to take
362
00:21:43.640 --> 00:21:46.559
a nitrol load to the western Arsenal tonight. What route
363
00:21:46.680 --> 00:21:50.079
route sixty three through the Yella Valley. Mister Marengo's boys
364
00:21:50.079 --> 00:21:54.160
will be waiting for you in a valley by away. Larry,
365
00:21:54.720 --> 00:21:57.359
I'm sorry about what happened to that pretty missus.
366
00:21:57.480 --> 00:21:59.200
If you are someday, I'm going to flatten your face
367
00:21:59.240 --> 00:21:59.920
for that, so help me.
368
00:22:00.160 --> 00:22:05.079
It wasn't my doing. It was Marengo's idea. Let this deal,
369
00:22:05.240 --> 00:22:09.559
Steve Withdrew. Yeah, sure, Larry Tonight you meet the boys
370
00:22:09.599 --> 00:22:23.279
in the other valley and then we're through. There's the
371
00:22:23.400 --> 00:22:26.279
lights on Mason's truck. Mister Marengo got down there in
372
00:22:26.319 --> 00:22:30.079
the valley. Your boys signal yes, Steve say yeah. I
373
00:22:30.200 --> 00:22:32.640
tell you, Larry Mason show this time. I'm looking for you.
374
00:22:33.960 --> 00:22:37.720
My business is too rich to take chances. Chances. I
375
00:22:37.839 --> 00:22:41.960
decided the truck will not be hijacked. After I set
376
00:22:41.960 --> 00:22:43.799
everything up and all your boys down there gotta go
377
00:22:43.920 --> 00:22:47.079
are gonna work. You don't understand, it'll only appeared that
378
00:22:47.200 --> 00:22:50.759
the truck wasn't hijacked. I don't get you, mister Marengo.
379
00:22:50.960 --> 00:22:53.240
Right now sit borrowing. The rest of my men are
380
00:22:53.279 --> 00:22:56.559
removing most of the powder from that truck originally planned,
381
00:22:57.559 --> 00:22:59.599
but they leave will be used to destroy the truck
382
00:22:59.720 --> 00:23:05.599
and Larry Mason hill Larry, Hey, it looked like an accident, eh,
383
00:23:05.720 --> 00:23:08.119
And we won't have to worry anymore about trusting him
384
00:23:08.200 --> 00:23:10.920
or not both he in the truck will be blown
385
00:23:10.960 --> 00:23:13.240
a bit spack to Marange, this is something I got
386
00:23:13.319 --> 00:23:16.160
at sea. Oh you'll see it. See you and I
387
00:23:16.279 --> 00:23:20.079
both will ah flashing the signal to me come up here.
388
00:23:20.880 --> 00:23:41.920
Everything's ready. Yes, in that moment, Hey.
389
00:23:41.880 --> 00:23:44.359
We shouldn't go here. That exploded talking to Marangos. Those
390
00:23:44.400 --> 00:23:47.000
other cats come along and then we just act like
391
00:23:47.039 --> 00:23:56.079
horrified witnesses. Here's the road it needs what's left through?
392
00:23:56.279 --> 00:23:59.519
Careful Not all of the explosures may have gone up
393
00:23:59.559 --> 00:24:02.920
at once. See there's still some flames, some flames there.
394
00:24:03.240 --> 00:24:04.680
There's not much truck h.
395
00:24:06.000 --> 00:24:08.079
Very powerful explosive, is it not be?
396
00:24:08.640 --> 00:24:12.359
I'll say, hey, you boys supposed to be close fly
397
00:24:12.519 --> 00:24:17.559
with the other cans of explosive. Yes, the borrower should
398
00:24:17.559 --> 00:24:22.279
be at this spot to reports to me las me hair, Hey,
399
00:24:23.160 --> 00:24:27.519
take another look at the records. That's a manut. Here's
400
00:24:27.559 --> 00:24:32.680
where the driver's cowboys, Only where's Larry with his body?
401
00:24:33.880 --> 00:24:41.640
A peculiar steve, very peculiar. First your boys, no sign
402
00:24:41.680 --> 00:24:46.000
of them, then no sign of Larry. Don't understand it.
403
00:24:47.640 --> 00:24:50.000
Be sure nothing could have gone wrong. My orders were clear.
404
00:24:50.680 --> 00:24:53.319
Hijack the truck removed most of the explosive. Roll up
405
00:24:53.359 --> 00:24:54.960
the truck and Larry Mason with the red cab. It
406
00:24:55.240 --> 00:24:58.319
if Larry's dead, where is he over here?
407
00:25:00.039 --> 00:25:00.319
Hear that?
408
00:25:01.799 --> 00:25:04.640
Larry impossible?
409
00:25:05.319 --> 00:25:06.319
I know his voice.
410
00:25:06.440 --> 00:25:11.160
He's alive over behind those trees. Get your gun out,
411
00:25:12.640 --> 00:25:15.279
I got it. I've tried to get him to show
412
00:25:15.359 --> 00:25:18.960
himself when he does shoot, wave it.
413
00:25:19.039 --> 00:25:24.920
To me, Larry, Why do you want marengo?
414
00:25:25.960 --> 00:25:29.920
But we want to talk to you. Come out. I'm hurt,
415
00:25:30.839 --> 00:25:33.400
I can't move. You got to call me.
416
00:25:36.720 --> 00:25:42.319
Go on, dear, uh where are you exactly? Larry?
417
00:25:43.400 --> 00:25:46.920
You'll find out not to see what's the way it's done?
418
00:25:48.000 --> 00:25:51.799
That share not see do it? You can get it
419
00:25:51.839 --> 00:25:57.279
out again quickly. Gonna get posed now, come on, stop
420
00:25:57.319 --> 00:26:02.039
way out? Why what's the matter, Larry. I've got a
421
00:26:02.079 --> 00:26:04.920
gun to stay where you are, right in that touch
422
00:26:05.000 --> 00:26:08.000
of moon where I can see play me at first.
423
00:26:08.079 --> 00:26:09.720
We're going to get a couple of things straight.
424
00:26:10.880 --> 00:26:11.839
Let's he trying to do?
425
00:26:14.680 --> 00:26:15.599
Oh what is it?
426
00:26:15.799 --> 00:26:19.759
Larry? You've got to remember I know that Sid follow
427
00:26:19.960 --> 00:26:23.960
murdered Vince Dougal. Yes, but but whatever, And I know
428
00:26:24.160 --> 00:26:26.799
you and Steve got sore because I was boiling your
429
00:26:26.880 --> 00:26:29.839
hijack record. He tried to kill me tonight by blowing.
430
00:26:29.640 --> 00:26:33.200
Up my trucks. That's that was all a mistake, Larry.
431
00:26:34.160 --> 00:26:37.720
From now on, we'll be good friends and trust each other. Okay,
432
00:26:38.640 --> 00:26:43.920
hands on the last counterins, Maringo, your them all right,
433
00:26:44.279 --> 00:26:52.440
get the gun, I'll handle me. Ringo, No, no, my
434
00:26:52.519 --> 00:26:56.799
hand for all right alone, starting a nice murdering quick.
435
00:26:56.880 --> 00:26:58.680
You've done a good job all around, Larry, but you
436
00:26:58.720 --> 00:26:59.359
can leave him.
437
00:26:59.240 --> 00:27:01.640
To it, he squeamed, you dropped it. I gonna see
438
00:27:01.799 --> 00:27:02.400
your whole.
439
00:27:02.319 --> 00:27:04.880
Plan went wrong after we took your triggerman bottle and
440
00:27:04.880 --> 00:27:07.400
the rest of your mob. We set off that explosion too,
441
00:27:07.680 --> 00:27:10.759
but exactly as you had planned, except that Larry left
442
00:27:10.799 --> 00:27:13.400
the truck first. Some of the things you admitted to
443
00:27:13.480 --> 00:27:15.079
him a moment ago. We've got enough to send you
444
00:27:15.160 --> 00:27:17.160
and all your gang away for the rest of your lives.
445
00:27:27.839 --> 00:27:30.680

489
00:31:07.079 --> 00:31:07.839
Welcome back.
490
00:31:07.960 --> 00:31:11.640
Well, the reason I don't like that title that has
491
00:31:11.720 --> 00:31:16.759
been given to it is it's a hijacker's committing blackmail
492
00:31:17.680 --> 00:31:23.000
rather than a blackmailed hijacker. But at any rate, an
493
00:31:23.079 --> 00:31:28.599
interesting episode and our criminal's biggest step it was pushing
494
00:31:29.279 --> 00:31:35.440
this truck driver too fast and too hard, because essentially,
495
00:31:35.960 --> 00:31:42.720
by being willing to lie to cover up his past conviction,
496
00:31:43.440 --> 00:31:47.119
he showed that he could be blackmailed. But it's a
497
00:31:47.319 --> 00:31:54.000
big leap from refusing to identify a suspect to actually
498
00:31:54.240 --> 00:31:59.920
participating in a crime yourself, and I think that he
499
00:32:00.240 --> 00:32:03.720
was not ready to make that late. Now, of course,
500
00:32:03.920 --> 00:32:08.359
he probably would have ended up dead as a result
501
00:32:08.519 --> 00:32:13.599
without the timely interference of David Hardy. Well, now we
502
00:32:13.839 --> 00:32:17.759
do turn to listener comments and feedback, and we turned
503
00:32:17.799 --> 00:32:21.079
to Spotify, where Don Wright seems like Harding can solve
504
00:32:21.119 --> 00:32:25.680
this by problem by rounding up every very attractive female
505
00:32:25.799 --> 00:32:28.079
he can fined. I need to go back and count
506
00:32:28.160 --> 00:32:31.079
how many fem fatales have been there have there been
507
00:32:31.160 --> 00:32:34.160
in this series. It's a lot and this was from
508
00:32:34.200 --> 00:32:37.400
the case of the Mexican Rancho. But it's a funny
509
00:32:37.839 --> 00:32:40.599
comment I guess to read on this episode as it
510
00:32:40.920 --> 00:32:43.400
is one without any female villains.
511
00:32:44.880 --> 00:32:46.720
But I mean, certainly there's a point.
512
00:32:47.079 --> 00:32:52.720
I would say that the fe fatale as this very
513
00:32:53.119 --> 00:32:58.880
big motif was hardly limited to counterspyt I think we've
514
00:32:58.960 --> 00:33:01.720
heard it on nearly every program we played on the
515
00:33:01.839 --> 00:33:06.440
Great Detectives, and certainly Counterspy isn't like on the Pat
516
00:33:06.519 --> 00:33:10.000
Novack for higher level, so very common to the era.
517
00:33:10.359 --> 00:33:13.559
And then we have some comments on YouTube or regarding
518
00:33:14.079 --> 00:33:19.559
the episode. The Recruited Nurse listener writes, Hi, mister g
519
00:33:19.880 --> 00:33:22.359
thanks again for another great episodes. PS.
520
00:33:22.480 --> 00:33:26.319
The commercials are so interesting. Well, thanks so much, and
521
00:33:26.519 --> 00:33:28.160
Saysoft Rights had him.
522
00:33:28.599 --> 00:33:30.759
In addition to the bad guy who sounds a lot
523
00:33:30.920 --> 00:33:33.920
like Chuck Webster, the doctor sounds a lot like Raymond
524
00:33:34.039 --> 00:33:38.799
Edward Johnson. That would fit considering this is a New
525
00:33:38.880 --> 00:33:42.960
York production. Well, thanks so much, say SOFF. And I
526
00:33:43.079 --> 00:33:46.559
will admit that I'm not entirely sure because Raymond Edward
527
00:33:46.799 --> 00:33:52.160
Johnson I did actually have a lot of voices that
528
00:33:52.279 --> 00:33:55.440
he did, so it's so I might pick up on
529
00:33:55.599 --> 00:33:59.519
one or two of them, particularly if I would if
530
00:33:59.599 --> 00:34:05.480
I've been listening to something familiar recently. I remember that
531
00:34:06.079 --> 00:34:09.880
I noticed Raymond Edward Johnson on an episode of Boston Blackie,
532
00:34:10.119 --> 00:34:12.440
just because I'd happen to listen to an episode of
533
00:34:12.840 --> 00:34:16.800
Crime Club, which he also hosted. But appreciate your comments.
534
00:34:17.199 --> 00:34:20.840

as two dollars per month at Patreon dot great Detectives
11
00:00:43.200 --> 00:00:48.200
dot net. Well, now we're going to get into today's episode,
12
00:00:48.399 --> 00:00:52.600
which is one of those titles I'm not a particular
13
00:00:52.719 --> 00:00:56.399
fan of, but I'll talk a little bit about why afterwards.
14
00:00:56.560 --> 00:01:01.399
More importantly, though, this episode does mark the start of
15
00:01:01.679 --> 00:01:06.959
a street of consecutive episodes in circulation. And this is
16
00:01:07.000 --> 00:01:12.200
a big deal because heretofore, we've brought you fourteen episodes
17
00:01:12.840 --> 00:01:16.879
spread with throughout the first three hundred and eighty four
18
00:01:16.920 --> 00:01:19.840
episodes aired, so we'll get more of a sense of
19
00:01:19.879 --> 00:01:23.040
what it was like to listen to the series. At
20
00:01:23.120 --> 00:01:27.879
least if you were listening in nineteen forty nine. But
21
00:01:28.120 --> 00:01:32.719
let's go ahead and now from August ninth, nineteen forty nine.
22
00:01:32.879 --> 00:01:35.280

Pepsicola hips the spot two fold classes. That's a lot.
34
00:02:39.800 --> 00:02:41.199
That's right. You heard what they said.
35
00:02:41.280 --> 00:02:44.080
Two full glasses of sparkling pepsi from one big twelve

39
00:02:54.159 --> 00:02:57.159

00:02:57.680 --> 00:03:01.639
Pepsi is America's big, big favorite at America's biggest cold
41
00:03:01.639 --> 00:03:04.680
of at you so why take lets when Petsy is best?
42
00:03:05.199 --> 00:03:09.199
Whenever you reach for a replacement, remember why take less
43
00:03:09.280 --> 00:03:21.879
when Petsy now to Coppers five. Shortly after midnight last
44
00:03:21.960 --> 00:03:25.199
February third, a heavy truck carrying ten tons of high
45
00:03:25.240 --> 00:03:28.560
explosives to a government arsenal was rolling along a foggy,
46
00:03:28.599 --> 00:03:31.800
mountainous stretch of Highway nine W in eastern Pennsylvania.
47
00:03:36.319 --> 00:03:48.199
The driver, Larry Mason, held the wheel typely. Hey, Vince, Yeah, Prince,
48
00:03:48.240 --> 00:03:52.199
can you see anything at the stars getting think about
49
00:03:52.199 --> 00:03:52.919
a minute, Larry.
50
00:03:57.560 --> 00:03:58.319
I'm a love of Mike.
51
00:03:58.439 --> 00:04:00.319
Larry, if you got a whistle, at least he's not
52
00:04:00.439 --> 00:04:02.319
too you know, we should have stopped before we hit
53
00:04:02.400 --> 00:04:02.719
this road.
54
00:04:02.840 --> 00:04:03.080
Vince.
55
00:04:04.080 --> 00:04:06.199
That ten tons of nitro we got in the back.
56
00:04:06.319 --> 00:04:11.560
One slip and my wife Cash is in my insurance. Hey,
57
00:04:11.639 --> 00:04:14.400
Larry off a hat. Yeah, looks like a car skidded
58
00:04:14.439 --> 00:04:22.560
right across the road. Oh down, man, alright, I don't.
59
00:04:22.360 --> 00:04:23.560
See the drive of the Vince.
60
00:04:24.120 --> 00:04:26.560
Ah, Well we better get out and take a look.
61
00:04:26.600 --> 00:04:29.959
Maybe we can help the guy. Yeah, I'll get out

What is this get away from that truck?
65
00:04:38.800 --> 00:04:39.879
This is the high takes.
66
00:04:39.959 --> 00:04:40.920
We died and this is a.
67
00:04:40.959 --> 00:04:57.399
Trick I learned in the Army. Kick me well. Urgent
68
00:04:57.839 --> 00:04:59.759
to all counter spyfield offices.
69
00:05:00.160 --> 00:05:00.360

Eastern Pennsylvania relief driver Vince Dugan killed. Killer tentatively identified
73
00:05:14.079 --> 00:05:18.839
as one Sid Barlow. See counter spy file identification made
74
00:05:18.879 --> 00:05:21.600
by surviving driver up truck Larry Mason.
75
00:05:30.000 --> 00:05:31.279
Locked the door for you kill.
76
00:05:31.480 --> 00:05:34.439
Oh no, Larry, I'm only going to the supermarket. I'll

Is Steve Kramer, chief truck dispatched down at the company
88
00:06:03.240 --> 00:06:04.120
for sixty seven years.
89
00:06:04.240 --> 00:06:07.079
Oh, missus Mason, Larry had an a a KB to himself.
90
00:06:08.360 --> 00:06:09.399
Thanks mister Kramer.
91
00:06:09.879 --> 00:06:12.000
Oh, Larry, I'm going on to the market, so you

93
00:06:16.920 --> 00:06:19.120
I know going downtown to Steve.
94
00:06:19.199 --> 00:06:19.680
I'm cunning.
95
00:06:19.800 --> 00:06:22.040
Hurry out this Fifield office.
96
00:06:22.120 --> 00:06:25.120
Huh yeah, nine o'clock to identified the guy who killed
97
00:06:25.199 --> 00:06:25.759
Vince Dugen.
98
00:06:26.720 --> 00:06:29.199
How about a lived Oh you got a friend of
99
00:06:29.240 --> 00:06:32.879
mine's got his right over here. I happened to spot
100
00:06:33.000 --> 00:06:33.959
you just always stopped.
101
00:06:34.000 --> 00:06:34.560
Good enough.
102
00:06:36.399 --> 00:06:40.560
Happen, Larry, it's a friend of mine. Mister marangell Larry
103
00:06:40.600 --> 00:06:48.040
mat Hi you good morning, you win, Steve, take off, Larry.
104
00:06:48.319 --> 00:06:50.639
I have been telling mister Marango what pals you only
105
00:06:50.720 --> 00:06:51.639
Vince Dubien.
106
00:06:51.399 --> 00:06:52.920
Where Vince was a Greek guy.
107
00:06:53.160 --> 00:06:57.040
Yes, it was an unfortunate accident, Larry, wasn't an accident.
108
00:06:57.120 --> 00:06:59.920
Mister Moringo, that rotten dog just shut vinced.
109
00:07:00.160 --> 00:07:02.560
I understand the Connor spy has already picked up the
110
00:07:02.600 --> 00:07:05.639
guy who killed Vince from the description you gave him. Yeah,
111
00:07:06.079 --> 00:07:09.160
character named Sid Bollow. All I need now is for
112
00:07:09.199 --> 00:07:11.279
you to pick the guy out of the lineup. I'll
113
00:07:11.360 --> 00:07:13.680
never forget that kill his face. I'll pick him out,
114
00:07:13.680 --> 00:07:17.360
all right, Larry, maybe you won't pick Barlow out.
115
00:07:18.360 --> 00:07:19.800
Why wouldn't I hang it on? Follow?
116
00:07:19.800 --> 00:07:24.120
If he's the guy, tell him, Steve, Larry. Three years
117
00:07:24.160 --> 00:07:26.160
ago a can got out of the state jug in
118
00:07:26.240 --> 00:07:32.199
Ohio after a stretch from manslaughter truck accident. Yes, he
119
00:07:32.279 --> 00:07:35.720
comes here to Pittsburgh, changes his name to Larry Mason,
120
00:07:35.759 --> 00:07:38.120
and gets a job with our company as truck driver
121
00:07:39.160 --> 00:07:40.920
under false pretenses.
122
00:07:42.120 --> 00:07:42.720
How did you know?
123
00:07:42.879 --> 00:07:46.480
Also, Larry, last year you married a very lovely girl.
124
00:07:46.839 --> 00:07:50.720
I'll say, But of course you didn't tell Carol about
125
00:07:50.720 --> 00:07:53.040
your prison term. Didn't you listen to Carol doesn't know?
126
00:07:53.399 --> 00:07:56.399
Hurt her? Hey, Larry, Harold doesn't have to know, don't
127
00:07:56.439 --> 00:08:00.600
you see, mister Morango, nobody asked to know to Larry.
128
00:08:01.319 --> 00:08:02.839
So that's the setup, Steve.
129
00:08:02.920 --> 00:08:05.839
It's a quarter to nine. We will drive Larry down
130
00:08:05.879 --> 00:08:08.120
to the countess by field office. Mister Harding will be
131
00:08:08.199 --> 00:08:23.480
waiting for it. Mister Harding, here's Larry made mister Hay,
132
00:08:23.600 --> 00:08:25.879
good morning Larry to down here, repeaters me.
133
00:08:26.120 --> 00:08:27.399
Yes, there's our.
134
00:08:27.399 --> 00:08:30.000
Lineup room, Larry. In a few seconds, several men will
135
00:08:30.040 --> 00:08:33.519
come out on that platform up there behind glass sid
136
00:08:33.639 --> 00:08:37.559
Barlow among them, I want you to pick out the killer. Yes,
137
00:08:38.200 --> 00:08:40.080
the lights are so arranged that we can see the men,
138
00:08:40.120 --> 00:08:44.639
but they can't see us and they can't hear us either. Conway, Yes,
139
00:08:44.720 --> 00:08:49.639
mister Hoddy already Conway. You can send them on, Yes, sir, okay, boys,
140
00:08:49.679 --> 00:08:57.240
you want it on stage? There they are, Larry. Well,
141
00:08:58.759 --> 00:09:01.440
the second man from the left looks something like him.
142
00:09:01.960 --> 00:09:04.200
Take your time. Well, I'm not positive, now, you know.
143
00:09:04.279 --> 00:09:06.559
I only when we saw the killer from the side
144
00:09:07.559 --> 00:09:07.759
just a.
145
00:09:07.799 --> 00:09:12.759
Minute, Conway. Second man from the left turned to the right.
146
00:09:13.480 --> 00:09:15.840
Second man from the left turn to the right.
147
00:09:17.960 --> 00:09:21.080
He seems taller. You see the man you described to
148
00:09:21.200 --> 00:09:23.480
us the other day. Well, I'm not so sure now
149
00:09:23.799 --> 00:09:26.960
you know it was dark that night. There is Vince
150
00:09:26.960 --> 00:09:30.519
Stugan was your closest friend. You have a deep personal
151
00:09:30.559 --> 00:09:32.440
interest in bringing his murderer to trial.
152
00:09:32.679 --> 00:09:36.440
Sure. Sure, But there's even more to this case. Recently,
153
00:09:36.440 --> 00:09:39.720
a number of trucks carrying natropintuline, a powerful explosive, have
154
00:09:39.840 --> 00:09:42.759
been hijacked. Yes, that's what we were carrying the other night, Larry.
155
00:09:43.279 --> 00:09:46.440
We suspect that some big international ranketeer is shipping the
156
00:09:46.559 --> 00:09:49.559
stolen explosive to a dangerous anti American group in the
157
00:09:49.639 --> 00:09:53.639
Far East to make all kinds of international trouble. Yes, sir,
158
00:09:54.080 --> 00:09:55.960
I see now, if you can point out the killer,
159
00:09:56.919 --> 00:10:01.360
you will be helping us smash a dangerous international racket. Now,
160
00:10:02.559 --> 00:10:05.320
can you identify one of those men as the murderer
161
00:10:05.360 --> 00:10:11.159
of Vince Steuben? Mister Hoddy, he he's not there, not
162
00:10:11.320 --> 00:10:15.279
the one who killed Vince Stupen. Mason, your original description
163
00:10:15.360 --> 00:10:18.080
of the murderer was an amazingly exact one, in detailed.
164
00:10:18.600 --> 00:10:21.200
You were eager to see him punished. I'd like to
165
00:10:21.279 --> 00:10:36.720
know what's changed your mind. All right, Mason, you can go. Yeah, Larry,
166
00:10:36.799 --> 00:10:38.960
this is Steve. I left the message for you to
167
00:10:39.080 --> 00:10:42.200
call me. That's no meta date for you with mister Marengo.
168
00:10:42.360 --> 00:10:45.840
You had better come eight o'clock tonight in his penthouse apartment.
169
00:10:45.840 --> 00:10:46.559
I'll pick you up.
170
00:10:52.799 --> 00:10:53.120
Larry.
171
00:10:53.279 --> 00:10:56.080
I want to thank you for not identifying Barlow yesterday
172
00:10:56.120 --> 00:10:57.399
at the Countress by Field Off.
173
00:10:57.519 --> 00:10:58.559
Keep your thanks Marengo.
174
00:10:58.639 --> 00:11:00.960
Larry, that's no way to act at the Marengo. There's
175
00:11:01.000 --> 00:11:03.039
nothing to talk about, Steve. You two got what you wanted.
176
00:11:03.120 --> 00:11:05.639
That was the deal, Yes, Larry, that was that deal.
177
00:11:06.240 --> 00:11:08.200
Now I have a new deal for you. Chance to
178
00:11:08.279 --> 00:11:10.879
make some real del Larry, not them easily tell you
179
00:11:10.960 --> 00:11:14.320
get for pushing the truck around for our company. Unsatisfied,
180
00:11:16.080 --> 00:11:19.679
nothing so stubborn as a reformed convict. The is, Larry.
181
00:11:20.039 --> 00:11:22.360
I am scheduling here to take a lot of explosives
182
00:11:22.399 --> 00:11:24.879
for the company tomorrow night to another arsenal at Bay
183
00:11:25.000 --> 00:11:29.480
City alone. That powder don't get today city. You see, Larry,
184
00:11:29.960 --> 00:11:32.080
some of my men will be waiting to meet your
185
00:11:32.120 --> 00:11:34.200
truck in the highway at the Marengo. And it all
186
00:11:34.240 --> 00:11:36.559
set up. Larry. All you do is take one on
187
00:11:36.679 --> 00:11:38.360
the chin to make the high tack look clean.
188
00:11:38.519 --> 00:11:40.440
Nothing doing. It's no deal, Maringo.
189
00:11:40.519 --> 00:11:41.960
I paid you off. I did what you wanted one
190
00:11:42.000 --> 00:11:45.039
do Larry? What about David hiding?
191
00:11:46.039 --> 00:11:46.360
Honey?
192
00:11:47.120 --> 00:11:49.559
What do you mean, Larry? You did a very bad
193
00:11:49.720 --> 00:11:53.840
thing when you took the finger off, said Barlow. You
194
00:11:54.080 --> 00:12:01.080
the next calm, deliberately deceived, hurting you see, you have
195
00:12:01.279 --> 00:12:05.679
to accept my offer. My man will expect you tomorrow night.
196
00:12:16.440 --> 00:12:18.679
What does that up, Peter, Larry Mason's taking a load
197
00:12:18.679 --> 00:12:21.320
of explosives to the Bay City arsenal tonight, Dave alone.
198
00:12:22.000 --> 00:12:24.200
It's a perfect situation for Mason to allow himself to
199
00:12:24.240 --> 00:12:25.600
be hijacked. But do we allow it?
200
00:12:25.679 --> 00:12:27.039
Dave tell you what.
201
00:12:27.600 --> 00:12:30.799
We'll set up observation posts all along Mason's route now, besides,
202
00:12:30.960 --> 00:12:33.159
you tail him in a car, take at least three
203
00:12:33.240 --> 00:12:35.759
more men armed for a capture if necessary. I'll keep
204
00:12:35.799 --> 00:12:37.600
in touch with all of you from the communications room.
205
00:12:45.559 --> 00:12:50.440
Mister adding Conway, reporting from Greenvale Drop driven by Larry Mason.
206
00:12:50.639 --> 00:12:54.799
Stop here at eleven thirty five PM while he was
207
00:12:54.879 --> 00:12:58.559
cleaning his lights, and I checked his phenometer reading twenty
208
00:12:58.799 --> 00:13:01.639
two thousand, one hundred fourteen.
209
00:13:01.360 --> 00:13:06.799
Miles in veil, eleven thirty five driving time checks, many checks.
210
00:13:07.039 --> 00:13:14.639
Thanks, Conny, I'm supporting from fine city, mister Honey. Very
211
00:13:14.759 --> 00:13:19.480
Mason's time here one o five am phenometer reading Conny
212
00:13:19.559 --> 00:13:22.519
good dollars three hundred and sixty seven.
213
00:13:22.840 --> 00:13:25.519
Time and many check. And Adam Peters and three men
214
00:13:25.600 --> 00:13:27.720
are tailing Mason's sucking a car ready for a couple
215
00:13:27.759 --> 00:13:29.759
if it comes, keep an eye out for them.
216
00:13:33.519 --> 00:13:35.320
Peter is call me, honey, pursuing car.
217
00:13:35.600 --> 00:13:36.200
Something up?
218
00:13:36.360 --> 00:13:36.679
What is it?
219
00:13:37.200 --> 00:13:37.519
Why?
220
00:13:38.360 --> 00:13:39.919
Kind of your car? The main highway?
221
00:13:40.519 --> 00:13:41.519
What's your location? Now?
222
00:13:41.840 --> 00:13:44.759
Good road often leading up into the mountain.
223
00:13:45.360 --> 00:13:47.320
That's an even better spot for a plan. Hijacking in
224
00:13:47.360 --> 00:13:50.159
the highway, Peter, keep following, keep me in form.
225
00:13:53.159 --> 00:13:54.240
Peter, Honey.
226
00:13:55.919 --> 00:13:58.159
Run of the Bay City, throwing out into them.
227
00:13:58.600 --> 00:14:00.799
You mean nothing unusual happening on long detour he took
228
00:14:00.799 --> 00:14:03.960
through the mountain. The driver doesn't take a truckload of
229
00:14:04.000 --> 00:14:06.320
high explosive on a dangerous detour just for the thrill.
230
00:14:06.840 --> 00:14:19.200
Take close to him. Let's see what he does next. Dave, Hey, Dave,
231
00:14:19.279 --> 00:14:24.480
wake up. Oh I dozed off my chair waiting all
232
00:14:24.559 --> 00:14:26.679
my for you to come again. What are you doing
233
00:14:26.720 --> 00:14:28.639
back here in Pittsburgh? I telled Mason all the way
234
00:14:28.679 --> 00:14:31.960
back from Bay City. No trouble. Admittedly it looked like
235
00:14:32.000 --> 00:14:34.519
a hijack set up at first, but knowing happened, he
236
00:14:34.639 --> 00:14:36.360
came back, left his truck in the main garage and
237
00:14:36.440 --> 00:14:40.080
went home. Larry Mason is a very puzzling young man.
238
00:14:41.080 --> 00:14:43.240
You don't have to find some way of unpuzzling him.
239
00:15:04.000 --> 00:15:04.440
What there?
240
00:15:04.679 --> 00:15:07.559
Sorry? I woke you, Carol, you.
241
00:15:07.799 --> 00:15:10.679
Larry, you kid? You wouldn't be back in then city
242
00:15:10.799 --> 00:15:11.480
until tomorrow.
243
00:15:11.759 --> 00:15:12.799
Well, we have no phone here.
244
00:15:12.799 --> 00:15:16.399
I couldn't call you, darling. What are you doing? Where's
245
00:15:16.399 --> 00:15:18.159
my suitcase? It's in your car?
246
00:15:18.279 --> 00:15:24.559
Then I'll get it, Larry, what's wrong?
247
00:15:25.360 --> 00:15:26.519
I'm just taking my clothes.
248
00:15:27.279 --> 00:15:27.960
Larry, Please?
249
00:15:28.360 --> 00:15:31.240
What happened? Larry?
250
00:15:31.240 --> 00:15:31.840
You're in trouble.
251
00:15:32.960 --> 00:15:33.960
There's no trouble.
252
00:15:34.320 --> 00:15:36.320
I'm just fed it with Pittsburgh. That's not true.
253
00:15:37.919 --> 00:15:43.639
You're running out on me, aren't you, Carol?
254
00:15:44.000 --> 00:15:44.279
Karen?
255
00:15:44.960 --> 00:15:48.639
Honest, Honey, I wasn't running Listen, Carol, I'm in a jam.
256
00:15:49.080 --> 00:15:49.240
See.
257
00:15:49.360 --> 00:15:51.440
I have to get out of Pittsburgh now tonight. I
258
00:15:51.519 --> 00:15:54.320
don't care what it is. If you just tell me, well,
259
00:15:54.320 --> 00:15:57.159
there's no time to tell you. Will you come with me, Larry? No,
260
00:15:57.320 --> 00:15:59.919
I will old times not to have a phone.
261
00:16:00.799 --> 00:16:03.120
Look, I'll go down to the question the airport and
262
00:16:03.200 --> 00:16:05.720
get tickets now fast. All right, you pack, grab a
263
00:16:05.799 --> 00:16:07.000
taxi and meet me at the airport.
264
00:16:06.799 --> 00:16:07.320
As soon as you can.
265
00:16:07.799 --> 00:16:21.120
And don't worry, honey, Everything's going to be fine, just fine, Jessey.
266
00:16:21.399 --> 00:16:26.559
Jasey Creston airport driver?
267
00:16:26.679 --> 00:16:26.919
Please?
268
00:16:28.039 --> 00:16:29.720
Will you help me with some suitcases that they're on
269
00:16:29.799 --> 00:16:30.159
the porch?
270
00:16:30.759 --> 00:16:32.519
Mason going someplace?
271
00:16:33.639 --> 00:16:33.799
Well?
272
00:16:34.000 --> 00:16:37.519
Yes, who are you care? Just a minute?
273
00:16:37.519 --> 00:16:42.440
I told you to get out, okay, palace, go let
274
00:16:42.480 --> 00:16:43.399
me out of here. Do you hear?
275
00:16:46.080 --> 00:16:47.399
Where where are you taking me?
276
00:16:48.000 --> 00:16:48.639
What do you want?
277
00:16:49.000 --> 00:16:50.799
I want you to give a message to your husband.
278
00:16:51.759 --> 00:16:55.200
What a special kind of message, mister Mason. Kind your
279
00:16:55.320 --> 00:16:59.600
husband will understand. What are you talking about this, Mason.
280
00:17:00.679 --> 00:17:02.919
The next time your husband is told to do something,
281
00:17:03.000 --> 00:17:05.680
it's got to be done right, no side roads, no standards.
282
00:17:06.680 --> 00:17:10.319
Next time he delivers or something fatal will happen to
283
00:17:10.400 --> 00:17:16.920
you again too. That's the message, now, missus Mason. Just
284
00:17:17.160 --> 00:17:19.480
make sure he gets the message.
285
00:17:19.119 --> 00:17:35.519
Straight back to counter spy in a moment.
286
00:17:35.839 --> 00:17:39.680
But first, pets Nicola, pets the glasses.
287
00:17:39.799 --> 00:17:42.640
That's a lot lots more value, lots more dest Why
288
00:17:42.759 --> 00:17:44.160
take less when petsi is dead?
289
00:17:44.359 --> 00:17:47.000
More and more among fellows and girls, among mothers and dads,
290
00:17:47.039 --> 00:17:49.759
you hear that sane and sensible question. Why take less
291
00:17:49.880 --> 00:17:53.160
when pepsi is dead? No budget, no allowance ever had
292
00:17:53.200 --> 00:17:57.039
a better friend than Tangy's sparkling pepsicola. Because one big
293
00:17:57.119 --> 00:18:00.440
twelve out pepsi bottle gives you two delicious drinks. That's
294
00:18:00.519 --> 00:18:03.720
twice as much tangy taste, twice as much delicious pepsi
295
00:18:04.119 --> 00:18:06.880
to go just twice as far. That's why more and
296
00:18:07.000 --> 00:18:11.119
more families say, why take less when Pepsi's bet? Yes,
297
00:18:11.279 --> 00:18:14.519
family is like yours and mine family's all over America.
298
00:18:14.920 --> 00:18:18.480
They're all saying, why take less? When Pepsi's bet.
299
00:18:18.599 --> 00:18:21.759
Pepsi calls so delicious, and this bottle makes two drinks.
300
00:18:21.960 --> 00:18:26.359
It is certainly the cola for the purchaser who thinks everybody's.
301
00:18:25.680 --> 00:18:27.799
Thinking Pepsi does compare it with the rest.
302
00:18:27.960 --> 00:18:30.079
So what, Mrs Homas Spiner? Why take less?
303
00:18:30.119 --> 00:18:34.160
When Pepsi says today tomorrow, always get America's biggest cold
304
00:18:34.200 --> 00:18:36.400
up at you take home a carton of six big,
305
00:18:36.680 --> 00:18:40.559
big Pepsi bottles. Insist on Pepsi at the store and
306
00:18:40.799 --> 00:18:44.079
say Pepsi at the fountain, Say Pepsi at the fan,
307
00:18:44.359 --> 00:18:47.279
Say Pepsi whenever you reach for refreshment.
308
00:18:47.519 --> 00:18:52.759
Remember why take less? When Pepsi's bed Now back to
309
00:18:52.920 --> 00:18:53.759
Compers five.
310
00:18:55.440 --> 00:18:59.839
Seven airlines now loading a game?
311
00:19:00.079 --> 00:19:10.920
Are Oh, Larry, huh oh, mister mister Huntings and that
312
00:19:11.079 --> 00:19:12.839
carra over there he wants to talk with Well, I'm sorry,
313
00:19:12.920 --> 00:19:13.759
I mean to hurry, Larry.
314
00:19:13.799 --> 00:19:17.039
Mister Hunting said he wanted to talk to you. Okay,
315
00:19:20.519 --> 00:19:28.480
all right, get him. Oh Larry, I'm afraid you're not
316
00:19:28.640 --> 00:19:32.000
leaving town. Larry. What I saw you buy two plane
317
00:19:32.039 --> 00:19:33.000
tickets ten minutes ago.
318
00:19:33.279 --> 00:19:35.279
So you saw me buy tickets? That a crime?
319
00:19:36.119 --> 00:19:38.319
Larry, you're a material witness in a murder case. I
320
00:19:38.400 --> 00:19:40.319
could have you held in companty with this. Yes, I
321
00:19:40.960 --> 00:19:44.359
guess you could, but I'm not going to. Instead, we're
322
00:19:44.359 --> 00:19:47.039
going back to your home. When we get there, you
323
00:19:47.160 --> 00:19:48.759
and your wife and I my wife.
324
00:19:49.200 --> 00:19:50.799
She's got nothing to do with all this, Larry.
325
00:19:50.839 --> 00:19:54.960
A few hours ago we received certain files. They explained
326
00:19:55.039 --> 00:19:58.160
some of your recent actions. Now I want you to
327
00:19:58.240 --> 00:20:00.559
be completely honest with me, like what right along?
328
00:20:01.279 --> 00:20:01.519
Larry?
329
00:20:01.559 --> 00:20:03.240
We not only want to clean up his hijack case
330
00:20:03.279 --> 00:20:06.160
and Vince Jugan's murderer, but we also want to help
331
00:20:06.240 --> 00:20:08.200
you and missus Maylane tell you she doesn't know anything.
332
00:20:08.200 --> 00:20:10.079
A possible emergency flash.
333
00:20:09.880 --> 00:20:12.920
Mat Towning Peters car go ahead, Conway.
334
00:20:13.279 --> 00:20:13.960
Where are you now?
335
00:20:14.079 --> 00:20:17.400
Peters? Right outside Creston Airport with mister Harding good on
336
00:20:17.559 --> 00:20:18.720
that hijacking cage.
337
00:20:18.759 --> 00:20:20.680
We just got a flash from the city hospital.
338
00:20:20.920 --> 00:20:25.200
A woman identified as missus Larry Mason just brought out of.
339
00:20:25.200 --> 00:20:27.559
The emergency ward. She was beaten and.
340
00:20:27.759 --> 00:20:29.039
Thrown from a moving car.
341
00:20:29.640 --> 00:20:31.359
He's got a hospital was at the airport. I knew
342
00:20:31.359 --> 00:20:34.119
he had gone out there. What's missus Mason conditioned Conway,
343
00:20:34.759 --> 00:20:35.400
very larious.
344
00:20:35.680 --> 00:20:38.839
He's been given senative. Can you re locate Larry Mason?
345
00:20:38.880 --> 00:20:39.680
That he's right with it?
346
00:20:39.799 --> 00:20:42.000
We head for the hospital. Step only, Peter.
347
00:20:42.119 --> 00:20:48.759
You's your firing right, Larry, now when you cooperate with
348
00:20:48.839 --> 00:20:53.559
its All along, you've been trying to protect your wife, Evage.
349
00:20:53.880 --> 00:20:56.480
That's right. She didn't know about your record, did you
350
00:20:57.000 --> 00:20:57.279
you know?
351
00:20:57.440 --> 00:21:00.759
No, it was a coun No. I never told Taryl,
352
00:21:00.759 --> 00:21:02.119
and I was sure shirked not to.
353
00:21:03.200 --> 00:21:05.119
Oh kay, mister honey, how do you want me to
354
00:21:05.160 --> 00:21:05.440
help you?
355
00:21:06.000 --> 00:21:07.119
After we see your wife?
356
00:21:07.160 --> 00:21:25.960
But I think you can start working back in that garage. Hey, Larry,
357
00:21:26.559 --> 00:21:30.759
I want to talk to you. Yeh see, I'm stuntyful
358
00:21:30.920 --> 00:21:33.839
taking a detour last night and ducking the hijacked set up.
359
00:21:34.079 --> 00:21:36.160
I thought it was a good stunt. I'm giving you
360
00:21:36.279 --> 00:21:39.240
one more chance for you. Ruys say, don't disappoint mister
361
00:21:39.319 --> 00:21:43.640
Marengo again. What's the deal. I'm scheduling you to take
362
00:21:43.640 --> 00:21:46.559
a nitrol load to the western Arsenal tonight. What route
363
00:21:46.680 --> 00:21:50.079
route sixty three through the Yella Valley. Mister Marengo's boys
364
00:21:50.079 --> 00:21:54.160
will be waiting for you in a valley by away. Larry,
365
00:21:54.720 --> 00:21:57.359
I'm sorry about what happened to that pretty missus.
366
00:21:57.480 --> 00:21:59.200
If you are someday, I'm going to flatten your face
367
00:21:59.240 --> 00:21:59.920
for that, so help me.
368
00:22:00.160 --> 00:22:05.079
It wasn't my doing. It was Marengo's idea. Let this deal,
369
00:22:05.240 --> 00:22:09.559
Steve Withdrew. Yeah, sure, Larry Tonight you meet the boys
370
00:22:09.599 --> 00:22:23.279
in the other valley and then we're through. There's the
371
00:22:23.400 --> 00:22:26.279
lights on Mason's truck. Mister Marengo got down there in
372
00:22:26.319 --> 00:22:30.079
the valley. Your boys signal yes, Steve say yeah. I
373
00:22:30.200 --> 00:22:32.640
tell you, Larry Mason show this time. I'm looking for you.
374
00:22:33.960 --> 00:22:37.720
My business is too rich to take chances. Chances. I
375
00:22:37.839 --> 00:22:41.960
decided the truck will not be hijacked. After I set
376
00:22:41.960 --> 00:22:43.799
everything up and all your boys down there gotta go
377
00:22:43.920 --> 00:22:47.079
are gonna work. You don't understand, it'll only appeared that
378
00:22:47.200 --> 00:22:50.759
the truck wasn't hijacked. I don't get you, mister Marengo.
379
00:22:50.960 --> 00:22:53.240
Right now sit borrowing. The rest of my men are
380
00:22:53.279 --> 00:22:56.559
removing most of the powder from that truck originally planned,
381
00:22:57.559 --> 00:22:59.599
but they leave will be used to destroy the truck
382
00:22:59.720 --> 00:23:05.599
and Larry Mason hill Larry, Hey, it looked like an accident, eh,
383
00:23:05.720 --> 00:23:08.119
And we won't have to worry anymore about trusting him
384
00:23:08.200 --> 00:23:10.920
or not both he in the truck will be blown
385
00:23:10.960 --> 00:23:13.240
a bit spack to Marange, this is something I got
386
00:23:13.319 --> 00:23:16.160
at sea. Oh you'll see it. See you and I
387
00:23:16.279 --> 00:23:20.079
both will ah flashing the signal to me come up here.
388
00:23:20.880 --> 00:23:41.920
Everything's ready. Yes, in that moment, Hey.
389
00:23:41.880 --> 00:23:44.359
We shouldn't go here. That exploded talking to Marangos. Those
390
00:23:44.400 --> 00:23:47.000
other cats come along and then we just act like
391
00:23:47.039 --> 00:23:56.079
horrified witnesses. Here's the road it needs what's left through?
392
00:23:56.279 --> 00:23:59.519
Careful Not all of the explosures may have gone up
393
00:23:59.559 --> 00:24:02.920
at once. See there's still some flames, some flames there.
394
00:24:03.240 --> 00:24:04.680
There's not much truck h.
395
00:24:06.000 --> 00:24:08.079
Very powerful explosive, is it not be?
396
00:24:08.640 --> 00:24:12.359
I'll say, hey, you boys supposed to be close fly
397
00:24:12.519 --> 00:24:17.559
with the other cans of explosive. Yes, the borrower should
398
00:24:17.559 --> 00:24:22.279
be at this spot to reports to me las me hair, Hey,
399
00:24:23.160 --> 00:24:27.519
take another look at the records. That's a manut. Here's
400
00:24:27.559 --> 00:24:32.680
where the driver's cowboys, Only where's Larry with his body?
401
00:24:33.880 --> 00:24:41.640
A peculiar steve, very peculiar. First your boys, no sign
402
00:24:41.680 --> 00:24:46.000
of them, then no sign of Larry. Don't understand it.
403
00:24:47.640 --> 00:24:50.000
Be sure nothing could have gone wrong. My orders were clear.
404
00:24:50.680 --> 00:24:53.319
Hijack the truck removed most of the explosive. Roll up
405
00:24:53.359 --> 00:24:54.960
the truck and Larry Mason with the red cab. It
406
00:24:55.240 --> 00:24:58.319
if Larry's dead, where is he over here?
407
00:25:00.039 --> 00:25:00.319
Hear that?
408
00:25:01.799 --> 00:25:04.640
Larry impossible?
409
00:25:05.319 --> 00:25:06.319
I know his voice.
410
00:25:06.440 --> 00:25:11.160
He's alive over behind those trees. Get your gun out,
411
00:25:12.640 --> 00:25:15.279
I got it. I've tried to get him to show
412
00:25:15.359 --> 00:25:18.960
himself when he does shoot, wave it.
413
00:25:19.039 --> 00:25:24.920
To me, Larry, Why do you want marengo?
414
00:25:25.960 --> 00:25:29.920
But we want to talk to you. Come out. I'm hurt,
415
00:25:30.839 --> 00:25:33.400
I can't move. You got to call me.
416
00:25:36.720 --> 00:25:42.319
Go on, dear, uh where are you exactly? Larry?
417
00:25:43.400 --> 00:25:46.920
You'll find out not to see what's the way it's done?
418
00:25:48.000 --> 00:25:51.799
That share not see do it? You can get it
419
00:25:51.839 --> 00:25:57.279
out again quickly. Gonna get posed now, come on, stop
420
00:25:57.319 --> 00:26:02.039
way out? Why what's the matter, Larry. I've got a
421
00:26:02.079 --> 00:26:04.920
gun to stay where you are, right in that touch
422
00:26:05.000 --> 00:26:08.000
of moon where I can see play me at first.
423
00:26:08.079 --> 00:26:09.720
We're going to get a couple of things straight.
424
00:26:10.880 --> 00:26:11.839
Let's he trying to do?
425
00:26:14.680 --> 00:26:15.599
Oh what is it?
426
00:26:15.799 --> 00:26:19.759
Larry? You've got to remember I know that Sid follow
427
00:26:19.960 --> 00:26:23.960
murdered Vince Dougal. Yes, but but whatever, And I know
428
00:26:24.160 --> 00:26:26.799
you and Steve got sore because I was boiling your
429
00:26:26.880 --> 00:26:29.839
hijack record. He tried to kill me tonight by blowing.
430
00:26:29.640 --> 00:26:33.200
Up my trucks. That's that was all a mistake, Larry.
431
00:26:34.160 --> 00:26:37.720
From now on, we'll be good friends and trust each other. Okay,
432
00:26:38.640 --> 00:26:43.920
hands on the last counterins, Maringo, your them all right,
433
00:26:44.279 --> 00:26:52.440
get the gun, I'll handle me. Ringo, No, no, my
434
00:26:52.519 --> 00:26:56.799
hand for all right alone, starting a nice murdering quick.
435
00:26:56.880 --> 00:26:58.680
You've done a good job all around, Larry, but you
436
00:26:58.720 --> 00:26:59.359
can leave him.
437
00:26:59.240 --> 00:27:01.640
To it, he squeamed, you dropped it. I gonna see
438
00:27:01.799 --> 00:27:02.400
your whole.
439
00:27:02.319 --> 00:27:04.880
Plan went wrong after we took your triggerman bottle and
440
00:27:04.880 --> 00:27:07.400
the rest of your mob. We set off that explosion too,
441
00:27:07.680 --> 00:27:10.759
but exactly as you had planned, except that Larry left
442
00:27:10.799 --> 00:27:13.400
the truck first. Some of the things you admitted to
443
00:27:13.480 --> 00:27:15.079
him a moment ago. We've got enough to send you
444
00:27:15.160 --> 00:27:17.160
and all your gang away for the rest of your lives.
445
00:27:27.839 --> 00:27:30.680
When your friends drop in, be generous, but be thrifty too.
446
00:27:30.960 --> 00:27:35.079
Serve plenty of delicious pepsicola Pepsi's be twelve ounce bott
447
00:27:35.079 --> 00:27:37.480
will gives you not just one sparkling glass, but two.
448
00:27:38.000 --> 00:27:41.680
Get a carton of six, and serve twelve delicious drinks. Yes,
449
00:27:41.799 --> 00:27:44.799
Pepsi is America's biggest cola value. You get twice the
450
00:27:44.880 --> 00:27:48.720
tangy taste, twice the refreshments, twice the pepsi. So why
451
00:27:48.839 --> 00:27:52.759
take less when Pepsi's best. Whenever you reach for refreshments,
452
00:27:52.960 --> 00:27:55.240
remember pepsicolar.
453
00:27:56.039 --> 00:27:57.839
Glasses. That's a lot lots more.
454
00:27:59.279 --> 00:28:00.839
Why take less when pets.

not just one sparkling glass hold, but to get a
471
00:29:24.680 --> 00:29:28.759
carton of six and serve twelve delicious drinks. Yes, pepsi
472
00:29:28.839 --> 00:29:32.319
is America's biggest tolar value. You get twice the tangy taste,

00:29:32.680 --> 00:29:36.400
christ the refreshment, twice the pepsi. So why take less

479
00:29:57.559 --> 00:30:03.160
the Murmured Millions, the rendezvous between two men that changed
480
00:30:03.200 --> 00:30:07.359
the lives of thousands of women, the lone wolf Dwindler,
481
00:30:07.680 --> 00:30:11.880
who demonstrated that word speak louder than actions, and the
482
00:30:12.079 --> 00:30:16.599
enormous lips that accused a racketeer a quarter mile away
483
00:30:17.400 --> 00:30:20.160
he should have listened further. They after tomorrow who.
484
00:30:20.400 --> 00:30:23.759
The date of the Murmured Millions? On counter Spy.
485
00:30:31.039 --> 00:30:34.319
The night's Counterspy program originated in New York and featured
486
00:30:34.359 --> 00:30:37.720
Don McLaughlin and Mantel Tramer with music by ROSA. Real
487
00:30:38.400 --> 00:30:41.640
counter Spy is a fili Strates Lord production for Pepsicola.
488
00:30:42.319 --> 00:30:44.960
Enjoy some pepsi Ice told the Knife.
489
00:31:07.079 --> 00:31:07.839
Welcome back.
490
00:31:07.960 --> 00:31:11.640
Well, the reason I don't like that title that has
491
00:31:11.720 --> 00:31:16.759
been given to it is it's a hijacker's committing blackmail
492
00:31:17.680 --> 00:31:23.000
rather than a blackmailed hijacker. But at any rate, an
493
00:31:23.079 --> 00:31:28.599
interesting episode and our criminal's biggest step it was pushing
494
00:31:29.279 --> 00:31:35.440
this truck driver too fast and too hard, because essentially,
495
00:31:35.960 --> 00:31:42.720
by being willing to lie to cover up his past conviction,
496
00:31:43.440 --> 00:31:47.119
he showed that he could be blackmailed. But it's a
497
00:31:47.319 --> 00:31:54.000
big leap from refusing to identify a suspect to actually
498
00:31:54.240 --> 00:31:59.920
participating in a crime yourself, and I think that he
499
00:32:00.240 --> 00:32:03.720
was not ready to make that late. Now, of course,
500
00:32:03.920 --> 00:32:08.359
he probably would have ended up dead as a result
501
00:32:08.519 --> 00:32:13.599
without the timely interference of David Hardy. Well, now we
502
00:32:13.839 --> 00:32:17.759
do turn to listener comments and feedback, and we turned
503
00:32:17.799 --> 00:32:21.079
to Spotify, where Don Wright seems like Harding can solve
504
00:32:21.119 --> 00:32:25.680
this by problem by rounding up every very attractive female
505
00:32:25.799 --> 00:32:28.079
he can fined. I need to go back and count
506
00:32:28.160 --> 00:32:31.079
how many fem fatales have been there have there been
507
00:32:31.160 --> 00:32:34.160
in this series. It's a lot and this was from
508
00:32:34.200 --> 00:32:37.400
the case of the Mexican Rancho. But it's a funny
509
00:32:37.839 --> 00:32:40.599
comment I guess to read on this episode as it
510
00:32:40.920 --> 00:32:43.400
is one without any female villains.
511
00:32:44.880 --> 00:32:46.720
But I mean, certainly there's a point.
512
00:32:47.079 --> 00:32:52.720
I would say that the fe fatale as this very
513
00:32:53.119 --> 00:32:58.880
big motif was hardly limited to counterspyt I think we've
514
00:32:58.960 --> 00:33:01.720
heard it on nearly every program we played on the
515
00:33:01.839 --> 00:33:06.440
Great Detectives, and certainly Counterspy isn't like on the Pat
516
00:33:06.519 --> 00:33:10.000
Novack for higher level, so very common to the era.
517
00:33:10.359 --> 00:33:13.559
And then we have some comments on YouTube or regarding
518
00:33:14.079 --> 00:33:19.559
the episode. The Recruited Nurse listener writes, Hi, mister g
519
00:33:19.880 --> 00:33:22.359
thanks again for another great episodes. PS.
520
00:33:22.480 --> 00:33:26.319
The commercials are so interesting. Well, thanks so much, and
521
00:33:26.519 --> 00:33:28.160
Saysoft Rights had him.
522
00:33:28.599 --> 00:33:30.759
In addition to the bad guy who sounds a lot
523
00:33:30.920 --> 00:33:33.920
like Chuck Webster, the doctor sounds a lot like Raymond
524
00:33:34.039 --> 00:33:38.799
Edward Johnson. That would fit considering this is a New
525
00:33:38.880 --> 00:33:42.960
York production. Well, thanks so much, say SOFF. And I
526
00:33:43.079 --> 00:33:46.559
will admit that I'm not entirely sure because Raymond Edward
527
00:33:46.799 --> 00:33:52.160
Johnson I did actually have a lot of voices that
528
00:33:52.279 --> 00:33:55.440
he did, so it's so I might pick up on
529
00:33:55.599 --> 00:33:59.519
one or two of them, particularly if I would if
530
00:33:59.599 --> 00:34:05.480
I've been listening to something familiar recently. I remember that
531
00:34:06.079 --> 00:34:09.880
I noticed Raymond Edward Johnson on an episode of Boston Blackie,
532
00:34:10.119 --> 00:34:12.440
just because I'd happen to listen to an episode of
533
00:34:12.840 --> 00:34:16.800
Crime Club, which he also hosted. But appreciate your comments.
534
00:34:17.199 --> 00:34:20.840
