00:00:00
Speaker 1: And we have the former Soroptimist International of Gore Woman of the Year 2025, Annie Nelson, in the studio. Good morning.
00:00:07
Speaker 2: Good morning. And, you know, 2025 was a real year. So while it might be former, maybe immediate past. Would that be better? Immediate past Soroptimists of Gore International Woman of the Year 2025. Recently old. Old. I have got old. I've got old in a very– yeah. No, recently old. Just passed. Just passed, sounds like. Yeah, it sounds like you've gone, innit?
00:00:33
Speaker 1: Yeah.
00:00:34
Speaker 2: No, I'm still there.
00:00:36
Speaker 1: Phew. I am hallucinating, if not. Lovely evening, and we're going to catch up with winner Linda Harvey after 8.30 this morning. What are your final words? What are your advice? What are you passing on to the Queen as she steps up to the throne?
00:00:54
Speaker 2: Firstly, before I give the advice, she's amazing, isn't she? I mean, blummin' heck. I feel quite a bit of a fraud next to her when she's done all the things she's done. RSA, life member, etc. However, just two words of advice, Chitty. You'll be surprised by this. Stay humble.
00:01:15
Speaker 1: I thought you were going to say stay home.
00:01:17
Speaker 2: Stay home. Yeah, that's one for me. No, stay humble, Linda. She'll be right.
00:01:21
Speaker 1: Is this one of those things, do what I say, not what I do?
00:01:25
Speaker 2: Oh, surprisingly, I have stayed humble. Did you not notice? This is me on the humble low low.
00:01:33
Speaker 1: Is it like the limbo?
00:01:38
Speaker 2: It's J-low.
00:01:41
Speaker 1: Stop, go?
00:01:42
Speaker 2: Stop, go. That's right. That's me. Ooh, my back. Yeah.
00:01:47
Speaker 1: I was surprised last night. Like, you did roll out the carpet and you did have the crown glued to your head, but I was actually quite surprised you only mentioned yourself and being the current winner 25 times. I was like, oh.
00:02:01
Speaker 2: And how are you going to top this? That's what I said in one of my questions. But it wasn't. It wasn't. I was very low-key.
00:02:07
Speaker 1: Yeah.
00:02:08
Speaker 2: And clear, I thought. That's my presenting voice. I don't use it very often, but I slow things down. Chitty, you could learn from that on the radio, couldn't you? Have you ever thought of public speaking? Oh, I couldn't believe it.
00:02:25
Speaker 1: I'm allowed to take the mickey out of you, but it doesn't actually go both ways. It did make me giggle at one stage, though. I won't name any names. And when I say this, it wasn't me. I just like to clear the court. It was not me. But somebody in the room might have been at our table. We were being so quiet, and this person wanted some water. So I very quietly picked it up and passed it over. And they very quietly received it, went to fill up their cup, and they did that classic ding.
00:03:01
Speaker 2: I know. I heard it when I was on the stage when I was talking to somebody, and I didn't make any jokes, but I was like, oh, that's noisy.
00:03:07
Speaker 1: And I got the giggles, man. I was like, oh, no. And then it just made me think about things. Why are some things just so awkward in a public setting?
00:03:19
Speaker 2: Yes. I hate those uncomfortable moments. I really do. They're awful. But it was noisy. I didn't hear any water pouring because that's the worst. You know, you go really quiet and then you pour the water and it's silent and you think, now everyone's going to get up and go to the toilet because it just goes.
00:03:39
Speaker 1: One time I was at New World... Oh, good. I'm just going to throw myself under the bus here. And I was at self-checkout, and I was like, why is this not working? Like, oh, my God, frustrating. I was tired. I think I could have used the bags under my eyes to put my groceries in. And one of the ladies comes over, and she was like, you've got that round the wrong way. And I was trying to. scan my groceries and put them into the wrong side.
00:04:04
Speaker 2: Of the yeah you put them in the bagging area to start i i they need to color code that i agree with you that is embarrassing but i've done something quite similar where i'm stood there looking and thinking what am i working left to right or right to left i don't want to get done for shoplifting oh so maybe oh i reckon that's not you let's find more embarrassing moments at someone else's.
00:04:22
Speaker 1: Fault um waving back at someone They should wave.
00:04:25
Speaker 2: To start politeness next. No, I hate it when you do wave at somebody and they're not the person. Or worse, they think you're not the person, so they just stare at you anyway.
00:04:38
Speaker 1: And then you go out in public looking like a swamp donkey, thinking I'll just run in there, won't see anyone. Oh, cool. Just met the... Queen of Sheba.
00:04:49
Speaker 2: I've been in the Hamlet Springs and come out of the changing rooms and met a parent from school and I'm in my togs. Hey, honey, how are you? And I'm like, oh, I think the kids, Mrs. Nelson's here. In her togs, please let me go.
00:05:05
Speaker 1: You didn't see me. I didn't see you.
00:05:08
Speaker 2: That's right. That's the thing. That is a good social etiquette, isn't it? When you know you shouldn't see someone. Just, I didn't see you.
00:05:15
Speaker 1: Yeah, take that on board, actually, as you go throughout your day. If we're looking like rubbish, you didn't see us, we didn't see you.
00:05:20
Speaker 2: Didn't see ya.
00:05:21
Speaker 1: Speaking of see ya's.
00:05:22
Speaker 2: See ya.
