Why Are So Many Athletes Obsessed with Animation? The Real Connection between Cartoons & Sports: S3 E23

From NFL star Jamaal Williams to Olympic figure skater Evgenia Medvedeva, anime celebrations, cartoon-inspired branding, and major collaborations are becoming impossible to ignore. At the same time, animation has been celebrating sports for decades. From Bugs Bunny's legendary baseball moments to the cultural phenomenon of Space Jam and Space Jam: A New Legacy.

In this episode, Rob and Steve explore the growing relationship between the worlds of sports and animation through the lens of Rob's graduate research. They discuss why athletes connect so deeply with animated storytelling, how studios and sports leagues are using animation to reach new audiences, and why these collaborations are becoming a major force in sports marketing, fan engagement, and pop culture.

Whether you're an animation fan, a sports fanatic, or someone fascinated by branding and storytelling, this episode uncovers why these two worlds are colliding and why the trend is only accelerating.
