00:00:01
Speaker 1: Three h L one O four five. That's so Bret Doherty do to have it?
00:00:04
Speaker 2: Poor Rod Sleigh Radio Row coverage presented by Circus Sports and Dura star Frank Kelly Indo at the table. I'd love to hear your impression of this voice.
00:00:14
Speaker 3: I gotta go around. I just gonna ask about that. Sounds like you're what's going on there?
00:00:18
Speaker 4: What's going on there?
00:00:20
Speaker 5: League?
00:00:20
Speaker 1: Dehydration in Vegas?
00:00:23
Speaker 6: Oh?
00:00:24
Speaker 4: Is that okay? So you're in Vegas and then here, Yeah, that was the deal. O. Ron's coming back.
00:00:28
Speaker 3: That goods because my mouth is he got always got Thank you, Ron. It doesn't know.
00:00:37
Speaker 2: Yeah, you tried the quest protein Mexican Street Is that what American street corn?
00:00:45
Speaker 3: I had Mexican Street corn and it was quite frankly tremendous.
00:00:51
Speaker 7: It was very good.
00:00:52
Speaker 3: This is uh, like I told you, my wife gets it would get chips like this and they taste like cardboard, not this, not this brand. Then these quests, but I'm not getting paid for yet, and I uh, this is the best ship that the protein type of chip that I may have ever had.
00:01:11
Speaker 4: I'm not I'm not even lying.
00:01:12
Speaker 3: I didn't believe you guys when you told me about it because I'd had some chips in the past. I thought they were the same. Brandy. I'm either completely wrong about that or they mix this formula up a little bit. Yeah, but it's uh, it's really really.
00:01:25
Speaker 2: Every time I look up, I see Cam Newton over there. Who's tall or you or him?
00:01:29
Speaker 3: Without the hat. I'm six foot with that hat on. Man, all those hair holds it up a little bit.
00:01:36
Speaker 2: An you do it, simple sentence like that, and I hear that as grooted in my head.
00:01:41
Speaker 3: Well, sometimes it kind of pops out that way.
00:01:43
Speaker 8: Man.
00:01:44
Speaker 3: I'll tell you what, Cam Newton, I love to have Cam Newton, man, this guy's a tremendous, a tremendous thrower of the football, incredible power. You don't have a quarterback Lee Auburn. I mean that guy could have played one on everybody else doesn't even matter. You don't even even to Toots. Just Cam newtont man doing the Newton dance.
00:02:05
Speaker 2: He was the person eye old guy that we knew about publicly, I mean really publicly.
00:02:12
Speaker 3: To his parish church.
00:02:17
Speaker 7: That's right, it's just helping, that's right.
00:02:20
Speaker 4: Welcome to the real world.
00:02:21
Speaker 9: Yeah, it's been happening here.
00:02:24
Speaker 8: So that's not new guys.
00:02:25
Speaker 2: What is radio row like for you? Like, do you just keep getting pulled them outter where you will?
00:02:30
Speaker 8: Yeah?
00:02:30
Speaker 3: I have I Okay, So there's two groups of people that I try to see.
00:02:33
Speaker 4: What three groups.
00:02:34
Speaker 3: Okay, national shows, because I'm going to go to a bunch of different places. It hits every market I'm going.
00:02:39
Speaker 8: To, yeah. Uh.
00:02:40
Speaker 4: And then.
00:02:42
Speaker 3: The other one is the markets, the single markets that I'm going to. And then there's the third group, which is what you guys are. Who are I'm not going to Nashville right now or anything around excuse me, around the area, but your friends. So I come and see you as soon as you text, all right, I put I put you down as soon as I So that's uh uh, it's very lucky of you. I'm gonna say no, but I have fun. I have fun with you guys. So and I'm the greatest I'm really great filler here. So I'm less important at the moment because Cam Newton's walking around.
00:03:13
Speaker 8: Nobody's gonna get him.
00:03:14
Speaker 4: But he's walking around. He's a scene.
00:03:18
Speaker 3: But there's you know, Chris Simson is in the building, there's analysts in the building. There's uh, Terrell Davis was walking around. There's there's uh, there's Hall of Fame level players and current players all walking around, and that's who you want first because that's topical and to the super Bowl that when those aren't here, I'm great, but I take a backseat and go fill in on the.
00:03:40
Speaker 2: Other stoe for what we want. Honestly, maybe we're a little different. We we just want great content and like entertaining storytellers.
00:03:48
Speaker 3: Yeah, and it's funny we were talking powerful voices.
00:03:51
Speaker 1: I have going through there is that I would like to know.
00:04:02
Speaker 3: That's my real laugh, by the way, sounds like my real laugh. Was like like I can't it's not Seth Rogan like, but it was like a my real laugh was like like I can't contain it, like you can't stop it.
00:04:13
Speaker 2: So it's your wife ever saying like she tells a joke and you laugh, but it's not your real laugh.
00:04:17
Speaker 1: And she's like, I know that's not your real laugh. No, she did talk to me.
00:04:21
Speaker 3: No, No, I don't she she thinks it's annoying. She thinks it's like, why are you fake laughing? I'm like about even if it's about something else, I'm like, no. That that got me and that's my laugh.
00:04:31
Speaker 4: It's I don't really laugh at jokes. I laugh at timing.
00:04:35
Speaker 3: When the when something hits with weird something's really funny, I go, oh, that's good. I wish I would have thought of that. That stinks that I didn't. I'm not smart enough to think of that. But then if there's a weird timing, I'm like, it's like it just gets me.
00:04:49
Speaker 1: Yeah.
00:04:50
Speaker 10: Does your wife like your shows?
00:04:54
Speaker 5: No?
00:04:55
Speaker 3: No, not really, she doesn't care.
00:04:56
Speaker 4: I mean she's seen enough of me. She's a.
00:05:00
Speaker 1: You just walk around the house doing an action.
00:05:03
Speaker 3: Do you like practice something on her? No, not on her, because you wouldn't like anything. No, she'd rather mean me be be me. I mean that's I got up in.
00:05:13
Speaker 4: My wife loves me for.
00:05:15
Speaker 7: You don't know.
00:05:17
Speaker 1: Now you're going to the store and like Trump's voice.
00:05:19
Speaker 3: Well, there's a lot of tremendous things.
00:05:21
Speaker 4: And I show a person doing.
00:05:23
Speaker 11: A demo and they were doing the demoation I don't need a win a wink. They said, you gotta love these window weeks some of the best. I said, let me drink, and I said, now I'm banging frozen package of wind a weeks.
00:05:37
Speaker 6: And everybody knows.
00:05:38
Speaker 1: It and everybody knows you.
00:05:40
Speaker 12: I want to know this what amazing because everybody is growing up athletes like we put them on this pedesty and they're bigger than life at times.
00:05:49
Speaker 7: But getting the opportunity to be here Radio row.
00:05:53
Speaker 12: These athletes that are former athletes now that play professionally, and the ones that are current what amazes you more.
00:06:00
Speaker 7: The ones posts career when they lose.
00:06:03
Speaker 12: And shed all this weight are the ones that you see now, like seeing a Cam Newton in person, being like.
00:06:10
Speaker 8: Dude, that's pretty that's pretty well.
00:06:11
Speaker 3: I thought Cam was huge, but he's he's leaner than I expected.
00:06:16
Speaker 4: So he's leaner.
00:06:16
Speaker 3: I expected him to be thicker, and the shoulders kind of a deal. So that was kind of interesting there. His height surprised me. But Terrell Davis walking around just the not just how in shape he is and he's like just I don't know a better term than hard body, like holy cow. He looks like he could still play and the haircut is precise. Everything on him is he looks like a CEO of Earth. I mean, I'm looking at going, geezus, this guy is as together like that's that's that's that's Some of those guys are the ones that kind of amaze me.
00:07:00
Speaker 12: If you had a business meeting settled with earth, you walk in and see the CEO and it would be.
00:07:04
Speaker 4: I start quaking.
00:07:10
Speaker 1: Were you here when the.
00:07:13
Speaker 3: No, it's in my contract.
00:07:18
Speaker 1: Have you earthquake?
00:07:20
Speaker 4: Yeah, because I lived in l A.
00:07:21
Speaker 3: Okay, it's freaky, so we have it. It's uh, it's scary if it seems like it's happening for longer than it is. Yeah, we're like, what's happening?
00:07:30
Speaker 4: And you just thinks fall.
00:07:32
Speaker 1: Tight football games?
00:07:35
Speaker 3: That Actually I laughed at the at the what it was. It was the timing of it, but it was beause and I understood, and I understood the hurt because.
00:07:50
Speaker 7: There's a lot in there, a whole lot of hurt.
00:07:53
Speaker 2: We drink.
00:07:55
Speaker 3: Well, wait to say, what doesn't.
00:07:59
Speaker 1: Mean she's got five you also, yeah.
00:08:00
Speaker 3: I got a five year old and I work with them. I have a husband.
00:08:04
Speaker 6: You know.
00:08:04
Speaker 5: Yeah.
00:08:05
Speaker 3: Man, that's not that's not just a drink. That's an open bar.
00:08:08
Speaker 2: Is there is there a voice that you love to do, but it's not requested as often as you think it should.
00:08:16
Speaker 3: No, I mean I wouldn't say if I think it should, it doesn't get the reaction, like though.
00:08:21
Speaker 4: It's the more obscure.
00:08:23
Speaker 3: And low key ones like a Billy Crystal. Yeah, I didn't even know I did it.
00:08:26
Speaker 6: That's kind of.
00:08:27
Speaker 4: Ridiculous when you think about it. It's right there, that's.
00:08:30
Speaker 3: Good, but it's not really like, what's the bit with him? What's what I'm gonna do? Monsters anchors that I mean, I don't know, and it's not even it's not even him that people remember from when Harry met sounds so uh, you know, a legendary comedian an actor, but it's not really what's the because he's he's a romantic comedy and funny guy. Uh So that's that's and I like, I mean, I like lots.
00:08:55
Speaker 4: Of little ones.
00:08:56
Speaker 3: If I don't have something to do with them, like I'll throw in a little Kevin hardish kind of That's what I'm talking about.
00:09:00
Speaker 1: Make it happen.
00:09:01
Speaker 4: That's a draft Kings, you know.
00:09:04
Speaker 3: But that's all I got, you know, It's and it's so again go in and out, and it works when it's a short little thing. But to try and do more, I think it's just I don't have a bit for it either. So I'm trying to think if there's anybody else that I really like of the impressions I do that there's no I'm sure there are some, and maybe I'll figure it out by the end.
00:09:19
Speaker 1: There is there anything you're working on right now.
00:09:21
Speaker 4: Billy Bob to get that better? And it's not.
00:09:25
Speaker 3: It's not ready yet. It's one of those where I can't do it, and you know, it takes me ten minutes to warm into it.
00:09:31
Speaker 2: He does have a strange well his tea he's got so.
00:09:35
Speaker 13: I heard an interview he said, my kids, my kids think I sound like Hank Hill. Oh yeah, I think I'll sound like Hank Hill. And that doesn't make sense to me.
00:09:44
Speaker 8: I don't hear it.
00:09:46
Speaker 1: So it's in there.
00:09:46
Speaker 3: I feel it's it.
00:09:47
Speaker 13: Here, that's it, that's it right here, that's it right here. I got it, And I can only say, let's hear I got it?
00:09:54
Speaker 6: Got that of me?
00:09:55
Speaker 1: Go yeah, is that Hill?
00:09:56
Speaker 3: Throw it on you?
00:09:57
Speaker 6: Yes?
00:09:58
Speaker 2: I still love the the field trip we took to say he needs to go see you. If someone in the crowd wanted you to do Ron Sligh's voice and you did it.
00:10:06
Speaker 3: It was that's how you know your what your job is working.
00:10:10
Speaker 4: It's good when everybody's there.
00:10:11
Speaker 3: And they say they know the they know the man in the suit sweatsuit.
00:10:20
Speaker 10: Frank was ragging on you on your your suits.
00:10:24
Speaker 4: I wasn't. I said it actually looked good.
00:10:26
Speaker 1: And then you see you tell me he's trying to be funny. He was legitimate.
00:10:31
Speaker 3: Knew you were like I knew you were like, you didn't love this. I wouldn't go at you about that because I could tell that you were like I felt like, oh, what is this?
00:10:38
Speaker 12: I'm doing this again? This is that I was letting him know. Notice my all's ego. Man, that's you know, that's the slave.
00:10:44
Speaker 4: When you see me in the that's Don slig.
00:10:48
Speaker 8: Yeah.
00:10:51
Speaker 1: So what is radio? So how many of these do you do?
00:10:55
Speaker 4: Too many?
00:10:56
Speaker 8: Yeah?
00:10:57
Speaker 4: You can tell by my energy it's way down.
00:11:00
Speaker 1: I uh, I mean this morning on Good board y, I.
00:11:03
Speaker 4: Did Good Morning Football.
00:11:04
Speaker 3: I thought I was gonna be here doing a bunch right in a row.
00:11:08
Speaker 8: I did.
00:11:09
Speaker 3: They did two or three other ones pretty quick pops. Ten minutes. I went over to Rich's show. I did that, which great I did. I recorded some things for U Sunday Sunday Game day morning. What does it called the Eisen's Uh? You know the NFL network pregame show record a quick couple things for them.
00:11:32
Speaker 4: Did some networks, did you know radio shows and stuff like that.
00:11:35
Speaker 3: I've probably done ten to fifty probably ten today, Probably did twenty five to thirty yesterday. Oh quite a bit. Yeah, And it's a I try to do different things. Like you guys, I can come to just talk and you guys get it. We're friends and it's like, are hanging out and I'll throw some voices in here or there. Some of the places I have to go and really, you know, they don't know how to talk to me as a human being.
00:11:57
Speaker 4: I'm just a jukebox.
00:12:01
Speaker 8: Yeah, dude.
00:12:01
Speaker 3: And I don't mind so much when I got to sell tickets, right, So, if I'm going there and I'm selling the tickets, I feel like, well, I can just go and turn it on ABC.
00:12:08
Speaker 8: You know, you go through the thing.
00:12:10
Speaker 3: But if it's if I'm doing it as a favor, you know, if if I'm doing it as I don't know you you've asked me to do it, and you're coming at me with scenarios for specific impressions like that's too much.
00:12:21
Speaker 1: Man.
00:12:22
Speaker 3: I can come on and do what I do, but to come in and do what you do you want me to do? It just feels like you got the organ grinder out and I was like, and circus starts, you know.
00:12:32
Speaker 8: That's it. That's it.
00:12:33
Speaker 12: Noise it always here when I'm hung over that little but this is this is what I need to know. Anybody you went into doing this here at Radio Road that you haven't impersonated and they look at you and like say, like a Derek Hemry, like I don't know how you would impersonate it.
00:12:52
Speaker 3: He's pretty some dude, he's pretty sub well.
00:12:55
Speaker 12: Like somebody you ran into him was like Frank.
00:12:58
Speaker 3: There's some executives, some like radio executives.
00:13:01
Speaker 4: Like stuff, just do me.
00:13:05
Speaker 8: That's already.
00:13:07
Speaker 3: That's a song.
00:13:12
Speaker 10: What are you trying to you're trying to be a comedian nowadays.
00:13:15
Speaker 3: Just you got that one line in earlier and now you're trying to crush it.
00:13:18
Speaker 4: Yeah, it went from open micer to headliner.
00:13:21
Speaker 2: That's the other night you win one hand.
00:13:24
Speaker 3: It's like, so yeah, I'm trying to think if there's anybody around there's some people. Most people around here more regional, So to work on something would be a little tougher because I try to do stuff that's going to hit a national audience, and then you can disguise it enough and take their point of view and make it a character and nobody knows it's them, Like the actors will do that. You know, as an actor, you you can try and take somebody and then take their their point of view and create a character out of it, as long as it doesn't sound like the person too much. But it's kind of like it's got the roadmap?
00:14:00
Speaker 1: Were you already?
00:14:01
Speaker 6: So?
00:14:01
Speaker 2: Was this something Frank Kelly id do with us on three ahl? Was this something that like early on in your life you were good at and you knew it? Like, were you in third grade imitating your friends?
00:14:10
Speaker 3: I was super quiet up until then, probably about seventh eighth grade. Around there, I was thought it was pretty decent because I could make other people laugh, you know, the people around me, so teachers I could make laugh, break the tension in a class without getting in trouble.
00:14:23
Speaker 1: That was my skill.
00:14:24
Speaker 4: That was my superpower.
00:14:25
Speaker 3: Like teachers would have conferences with my parents be like, he's really great at knowing when to stop and when to keep the class going. And it's class seems to die down, kids aren't listening Frank will have fun and that my parents are like really our quiet, little awkward kid.
00:14:40
Speaker 10: So, so you had timing back.
00:14:42
Speaker 4: Then, I guess some.
00:14:44
Speaker 3: I mean I think so I look back and think what a jerk on a dark.
00:14:49
Speaker 1: But at what point did you know like I could make this my career?
00:14:53
Speaker 4: Was like a moment, Yeah, graduate from college.
00:14:56
Speaker 3: I went to school at University Wisconsin, Milwaukee, was I got a broad cast journalism degree. It was like, I don't want to ask the questions, I'd rather answer them. So I got out there and I'm com yeah, yeah, absolutely, on the tangent about something similar to what the question was, and then get to what he wants.
00:15:16
Speaker 1: To talk about.
00:15:18
Speaker 7: Off roading off roading.
00:15:22
Speaker 3: So uh so, I mean, what was the original question that, on a.
00:15:28
Speaker 1: Moment that you knew you could make a career out of this. Yeah.
00:15:32
Speaker 3: I started doing it right away. I mean started working right away. I don't know if I knew I could make a career out of it, but I started. People wanted to pay me because I was doing something nobody else was doing at the time. Now there's lots of people doing impressions on the Internet and stuff like that. You see all kinds of good and bad and somewhere in the middle. But yeah, uh, nobody was doing then because it was looked down upon. It was like an actor doing a commercial back then, like actors wouldn't do commercials because like, that's that's selling myself, but that's not everybody's. Like I heard Dana Carvey talk about he turned out hundred million dollars probably over time, he could have done commercials, especially when winn in the height of his career, and he's like, because I was about the art and he's like the stupidest decision.
00:16:09
Speaker 4: And I'd been there.
00:16:09
Speaker 3: Too about like I don't want to do that people when they want me to audition or host something like I'm not really a good host and that kind of thing, and I'd probably I go back and go I wish I would at least tried smart if you if you say yes, you at least have the opportunity.
00:16:24
Speaker 10: So that's funny you say that. I just watched a TV show with Jamie Lee Curtis on and she was talking about how back in the day, you didn't do, you know, commercials.
00:16:33
Speaker 4: As an actor or an actress. Movie actors wouldn't even do TV.
00:16:37
Speaker 3: Yeah, and now it's all Merge where it's almost the same thing.
00:16:40
Speaker 10: Yeah, and then she does Activia now and then yeah basically, and she was like, I struggled a little bit. Do I really want to go do this commercial where I'm going to talk about what poopin?
00:16:49
Speaker 3: Yeah, the movement yogurt I was gonna go. I was gonna smooth go smoother than D Yeah. D Sorry.
00:16:57
Speaker 10: Okay, favorite You're I'm like kind of jaded because I'm like, do I say this to him? Because he just said, like I don't like him when people come at me and be like to rine with you guys. Okay, so a favorite sports person's voice, Like is it Barkley.
00:17:13
Speaker 6: And living way up there?
00:17:14
Speaker 13: That was really good, first of all, second, first of all, the third, first of all, I'm seven.
00:17:21
Speaker 8: First of all, deep burner.
00:17:24
Speaker 13: Chuck, you only get one first of all, I get a lot of first of alls.
00:17:27
Speaker 6: You know why?
00:17:28
Speaker 8: Why is that?
00:17:28
Speaker 13: Because I'm Chuck knuncklehere. I did fourteen seconds of prep.
00:17:34
Speaker 8: For the show.
00:17:36
Speaker 1: And telling the truth now, So it's really good.
00:17:38
Speaker 4: There's a bit I've been doing.
00:17:39
Speaker 3: I get the wording right sometimes, but they're like Charles, the best thing about him is he just he's the he he is an entity himself. You don't care really what he has to say. You just care that he's saying it. So the fact that he doesn't really know what's going on in the current NBA, if he hasn't watched or paid a time attention to the game, nobody cares that at all. But that the fact that they went like, okay, so you don't really pay attention to the sport you're supposed to do, could you all show do college basketball?
00:18:11
Speaker 8: Right?
00:18:12
Speaker 3: And he's like, I don't really know. We'll pay it more.
00:18:14
Speaker 1: I'm in.
00:18:16
Speaker 13: I'm saying, let's go do some fan shots together.
00:18:18
Speaker 4: Guys.
00:18:19
Speaker 12: I got it. I have a segment. So I turned on my inner Frank to do Charles Barker. Okay, do so I have a segment on the SEC Network called the sleigh Ride that I do with wrapping up a Saturday. The highlights of some people that make the sleigh riders in a car, get me ride around, pick you up if you had a highlight and.
00:18:39
Speaker 7: A great, great performance.
00:18:40
Speaker 12: So I was talking about an Auroy guy and I said, you know what, I'm gonna use sucks right here. So I just got the riffing and I said thirty points for the point fifty point And I was thinking about you the time time when I was doing I was like, man, I need to send this to Frank to see what he would approve of me impersonating him, impersonating really.
00:19:03
Speaker 13: Really really just give it a footnote, knuckle head. Let people know where it comes from.
00:19:07
Speaker 10: And you just did.
00:19:09
Speaker 3: Like there's a lot of times where people just do it. Doesn't just happen to me, and happens some people on Stating Live. Dana Carvey is the most stolen from person I think ever, just the other day Ross, but everybody knows that. I mean, yeah, but at the time this is so far down the road that it doesn't really But people were doing that a long time ago, and like they were doing the Ross pro slack this two ters walking along shout of pine. One goes laft, the other one gets wet. There you go, problem shot. But they were just doing him doing it right, Yeah, And it's probably funny and different with Don doing it.
00:19:42
Speaker 1: I don't even remember.
00:19:43
Speaker 8: I don't know, KLi.
00:19:45
Speaker 1: What did you say?
00:19:46
Speaker 10: Is his famous one liner?
00:19:49
Speaker 1: Can I finish?
00:19:51
Speaker 3: Cant I finish?
00:19:51
Speaker 4: Can I finish? I don't know if he ever, because it's like, not gonna do it.
00:19:58
Speaker 3: George never said it, said George, He never said that. Maybe it was Carvey Carvey He's not get a debt, and then other people do their George Bush and not gonna do It's like, no, that's Carvey made that up.
00:20:09
Speaker 4: That's not even really him.
00:20:11
Speaker 3: It's not even accurate.
00:20:12
Speaker 1: Imber.
00:20:13
Speaker 3: It was in Vegas, so you know that it was. There was a lot of fried he was just hanging out in Vegas.
00:20:18
Speaker 1: That what it was on that way.
00:20:19
Speaker 2: You know, Circa is one of our sponsors, so they were like, if we're gonna send y'all out to San Francisco, come here for two days and do shows at.
00:20:27
Speaker 1: Circus points Okay Stadium.
00:20:29
Speaker 3: So we're like, okay, I'd never I'd only been to Circa recently, and it was fantastic.
00:20:34
Speaker 8: It was pretty good.
00:20:35
Speaker 3: It was really great. I was Creighton was doing something there. I'm friends with Greg McDermott, so I went there. You went there and uh that was when they were playing in the uh in the what's the tournament at the beginning of the year in Vegas.
00:20:50
Speaker 4: Can't think of that.
00:20:50
Speaker 7: Oh yeah, yeah, oh yeah, pre season one.
00:20:52
Speaker 10: That's that's slaves alleys listening to.
00:20:58
Speaker 8: Vegas. Yeah, yeah, is what it's gonna be.
00:21:01
Speaker 3: Pretended that he came up the thirty sixteens. Next year, you should be there now he's got See what I said goes off of the tangent. He just proved, He just proved he was quote unquote listening.
00:21:13
Speaker 8: Yeah, I was when she said slave.
00:21:14
Speaker 1: See he's gonna be there. You're gonna do shock, No, I can't do sick. Yes, yeah.
00:21:22
Speaker 8: Used to be really quiet and then they need.
00:21:24
Speaker 3: And then have Charles be the Rosetta Stone to understand help people understand.
00:21:28
Speaker 8: Well, the first part of what it said was totally true.
00:21:31
Speaker 13: The second part was a lot more than just to take in his own opinions and put it in there.
00:21:38
Speaker 7: Dude, that my favorite though is Morgan Freeman. I don't want you to do it.
00:21:41
Speaker 5: I just.
00:21:43
Speaker 8: Of course you do.
00:21:46
Speaker 13: Roynd Slay climb to five hundred yards of the most filth said slap. I can't even imagine, or maybe I just don't want to. That's the boom on his way to the boom book bro. I was there to beat me to it because I was at more freeing.
00:22:02
Speaker 2: Frank, good to see you. Thanks for coming over.
00:22:06
Speaker 3: Yeah, maybe this summer. I'm trying to figure out a date. But I'm worried about the World Cup dates and stuff like that.
00:22:13
Speaker 1: You can see.
00:22:14
Speaker 3: I don't want that because people are going to be really excited about that stuff. So Frank on stage dot com for anything coming up, and at Frank Kelly end if you can't spell out the word name Frank, the word ce, the word alien, and the word do at Frank alien for all social media.

Speaker 3: We have the blast being good Jeremiah Yeah, yeah, yeah, this is this is super exciting.
00:23:38
Speaker 4: Man, It's so cool. You know, it's a lot going on.
00:23:41
Speaker 14: When I was asking Dad, I was like, man, what was that week like, you know when you when you played in the Super Bowl.
00:23:47
Speaker 1: Man, He's like, oh, we didn't.
00:23:48
Speaker 4: Have all this you know going on. You know what I mean.
00:23:51
Speaker 9: It's a little different right then. Yeah, I'm playing on coming back every year now.
00:23:55
Speaker 4: Yeah exactly.
00:23:56
Speaker 5: Yeah, I mean it's back.
00:23:57
Speaker 1: It's a party now.
00:23:58
Speaker 10: Good energy, good energy, right, yeah, comendous.
00:24:02
Speaker 1: You guys have a new book coming out.
00:24:04
Speaker 9: Yes, title of it is Between two Legends. So this is my twenty fifth years the chaplain for the University of Alabama football program. So I've been with their seventeen years. Coach Sable was there played Coach Bryant's last four years. Ended up being probably my greatest honors being I was asked by miss Mayor Harmon.
00:24:21
Speaker 5: Bryant to be the Paul Bear for Coach Bryant. One of eight.
00:24:25
Speaker 9: Yeah, those, and so I wanted to take all of that and put it into a book.
00:24:32
Speaker 1: Can you describe playing for Bear Bryant?
00:24:35
Speaker 5: Awesome? Simple, awesome? If I had awesome.
00:24:41
Speaker 2: What was the recruiting aspect of when you were coming up and bar Bryant was trying to sell you Onbama, he didn't have.
00:24:49
Speaker 5: To sell me. Yeah.
00:24:51
Speaker 9: In middle school, I well, I started, I became. I was a football probably second grade. I started following NFL films Fran Target to O Jayson. So I'm watching all that. So second grade teacher asked me, what are you gonna do? What's your dream? I said, man, I'm a pro football player. And uh, sister Veronica, I was seventh grade and uh, so I start anyway. By the time I got middle school, I'm watching the Coach Branch show on a Sunday and uh he says in that good old Southern drawl in the show as Woodrow Low on the Tago in Phenix City of Alabama.
00:25:23
Speaker 5: Woodrow Low, Phoenix City, Alabama.
00:25:26
Speaker 9: I walked past his house for two years straight going to Meddle Lane Elementary and they were a prominent black family in Phoenix City.
00:25:34
Speaker 5: So everybody say, that's the Loew's house, that's the Loew's house. Own house like that one day.
00:25:41
Speaker 9: Yeah, literally, And so Woodrow low when he said there, I said, I'm going to Bama and I just started prophesying it. Then it became a dream of vision for me and ended up playing with Woodrow's Lowe's younger brother at Alabama.
00:25:55
Speaker 1: There's a lot of power in that. Yes, what you believe happen, Yes, and we'll have it.
00:26:00
Speaker 2: Caleb, no question you were going Alabama.
00:26:04
Speaker 6: You know.
00:26:04
Speaker 4: There was a few questions in there, man.
00:26:06
Speaker 14: You know I turned down some scholarship offers to go and walk off for coaching savings. So that tells you the power of you know, not only the influence of my dad, a father in my life, but just you know, coach.
00:26:19
Speaker 4: It was pretty simple for us, man.
00:26:21
Speaker 14: I just wanted to go somewhere where I knew I was gonna win some ball games.
00:26:24
Speaker 4: And uh, that school you went to, Yeah, they offered.
00:26:27
Speaker 2: Me first look at coach.
00:26:38
Speaker 6: Yeah.
00:26:40
Speaker 4: Yeah, man, we had a good time coaches.
00:26:43
Speaker 6: Yeah.
00:26:43
Speaker 14: I was telling that story earlier. I had left uh, the camp the week before. You know, you go your junior year, you run, jump and do all the measurables.
00:26:54
Speaker 4: And he was like, if.
00:26:55
Speaker 14: You run faster than you did down there for Nick, I'll offer you right now. And that's to that point. I had no offers on the board at all. I was you know, I was a little I was undersized, but you know I could run, so I knew it was you know, he was gonna have to put his money where his mouth was. After that, I burned that forty up. But sure enough he did. He offered me.
00:27:14
Speaker 1: He did and then you didn't even take it.
00:27:16
Speaker 4: Yeah, you know that was like, hey, thanks, but no thanks, No, this is going on. Yeah yeah, yeah.
00:27:22
Speaker 9: How was I going to live in the state of Alabama? Right?
00:27:25
Speaker 4: How was I going to live in the state of Alabama?
00:27:28
Speaker 6: You know?
00:27:29
Speaker 4: Or in your house?
00:27:30
Speaker 2: Jeremi Castill and Caleb Catil his son, So what are the biggest similarities differences between your experience with with Nick Saban and with and with Bear Bryant.
00:27:42
Speaker 5: I said it earlier.
00:27:44
Speaker 9: Both of them tremendously passionate, passion and that led to practice and preparation and confidence comes from that. So what you see the championships come from the confidence the players had. I was both coaches were very passionate, just tremendously their love for the game.
00:28:05
Speaker 10: Biggest thing you have learned about life? Football, all the things, because you guys started a foundation together as well to kind of help athletes. But what's the biggest thing you learned from Pops?
00:28:15
Speaker 14: Oh my goodness. I don't think we got that much time here. But if I had to just narrow it down, I think I was. I was saying this a little a little bit earlier, but it's like the game of football and how it's translated to life. And what he has taught us is being able to sustain discipline over time. You know, being able to football has taught me that I can do something very hard for a sustained period of time and being committed to that, and especially at a young age. You get there, you're eighteen, your eyes, this big man. I came from this Christian school. I get down to Alabama coach coach Saban using words I ain't never heard before, combining ways and never heard. I'm like, you know, I'm calling Dad, like you know, like that I don't know what to do, and I'll tell you that to better further answer your question. He I'm talking to him. I remember this day we'reing Bryant Hall. I called my dad said, Dad, this is so hard. I'm just inventing all this stuff, and He's like, son, I'm telling you, if you know, if you're going to have the success that that you want to have down there, you need to focus on.
00:29:35
Speaker 4: What coach Saban is telling you and not how he's telling you.
00:29:40
Speaker 14: And that gave me the maturity that I needed as an eighteen year old, not to be in my feelings every time coach coming down on me because I'm in my stands wrong or I'm this or I'm that.
00:29:51
Speaker 4: That's what sustained me. So I would say those two, those two things.
00:29:55
Speaker 12: Here, you guys talk about the transition. How difficult is it to get younger athletes to understand that there is a transition and then the former athletes to transition to the normalcy of life after maybe maybe Popskin.
00:30:14
Speaker 14: Yeah, beyond me, I'm still figuring it out.
00:30:21
Speaker 5: I'm still trying to.
00:30:23
Speaker 9: I try to download to them early on is this, Hey, let me give you a stat You're gonna you're gonna live more life not playing football than you will play you get to the NFL three point five or whatever that logos.
00:30:43
Speaker 5: Hey, god, that's that's the average.
00:30:45
Speaker 9: So what plan are you working on now for when that day come?
00:30:52
Speaker 5: Because it's coming.
00:30:53
Speaker 9: And so that's how I was taught, That's how that's what coach Brownt was big on. That's what coach Saban was big and so that's what with the players there as I worked with him as a chaplain, and it's the very same thing.
00:31:07
Speaker 12: Yeah, do you understand your impact that you have on these on these athletes former athletes and everything? And I say that because of the chaplain that I had in high school is the one he's with Vrabel now with the Patriots, he's with Mike, he's with Mike now and coach coach Mitchell.
00:31:24
Speaker 1: I still call him coach Mitchell.
00:31:26
Speaker 6: So let you know.
00:31:27
Speaker 5: But he married, That's what I'm saying.
00:31:30
Speaker 1: Coach he married.
00:31:31
Speaker 7: He married me and my wife two years ago.
00:31:33
Speaker 12: So that impact that you have, like, that's who you go back and lean on.
00:31:38
Speaker 9: Well, I'll tell you this, Uh, the guy that uh was my spiritual coach at Alabama is the reason that I went when the opportunity came twenty five years ago. To go back and our relationship with this gentleman is he is a part of National grand just tell your age Mossiffic National Grandparenting Ministry. And my wife is on that national board. Okay, and we so he's the state director for for Alabama. And so I married his oldest son about five years ago. So he saw, he's seen my what he's seen what he what he invested in me forty six years ago. He's seen that young man turn into a grandfather, from a father to a grandfather.
00:32:28
Speaker 8: I learned.
00:32:31
Speaker 1: Still, So, Caleb, part of your transition was Hollywood.
00:32:34
Speaker 4: Yeah, man, what was I on?
00:32:36
Speaker 6: Right?
00:32:37
Speaker 14: That transition is hardest possible, Yeah, jacket harder.
00:32:43
Speaker 1: How did that happen?
00:32:44
Speaker 14: I'll tell you what man, I I you know I could tell you that it wasn't in my plan. It really was such a huge leap of faith for me. It's tough. Like you talked to you asked about this, like, how do you even know that that time is coming to an end? Like most you know, sometimes it's out of your control. Injury, life happens, and then sometimes it's just timing. But to sum it up quickly, I had an interesting storytelling I didn't know where that was going to be. I thought I was gonna be a producer, which I am now, but I had someone pull out just point something out in me and said, man, I think you'd make a good actor, and I just and it just lit something on fire in me that I didn't really know was there and ended up being very just passionate about acting in the whole thing. But it wasn't an easy transition by any means. And I can't take any credit for it. Man, it was it was all and how God just led and ordered ordered my steps. I mean, you can't go how do you go from winn National championship to your first film? You are in the film Woodlawn, Like I like, you can't.
00:34:03
Speaker 4: You know what I mean?
00:34:05
Speaker 5: Well, let me tell you about the phone call.
00:34:08
Speaker 9: I get the phone call, right, I'm Pops, and uh, you know we've worked invested.
00:34:13
Speaker 5: All this time, you know, university.
00:34:16
Speaker 9: And he calls me and he says, Dad, I'm not gonna play anymore. And man, I like to tell people, I started loading my gun. Brother, all right, go down here and shoot this boy. Yeah, putting away anyway. So he's telling me this and I'm just being courteous. Okay, I'm here, mat Yeah, yeah, and he says something that was powerful. He says, Dad, acting.
00:34:51
Speaker 5: Is my dream.
00:34:54
Speaker 9: And what I tell people is when he said that, God disarmed me.
00:35:00
Speaker 5: And what it was.
00:35:03
Speaker 9: He took me back to when I told my pops, there you go, my dream is to be.
00:35:09
Speaker 5: A football player.
00:35:09
Speaker 9: And my dad was like, you got a blanket it blank blank blank blank.
00:35:16
Speaker 4: All the and.
00:35:18
Speaker 5: And so my pops didn't support me. He didn't come to my games and die.
00:35:26
Speaker 9: So I down, I say, hey, you know what, I have children one day, whatever it is that they want to do in life.
00:35:31
Speaker 5: Yeah, whatever their dream is, I'm supporting for you.
00:35:34
Speaker 1: Learn from that moment. Yes, that's incredible.
00:35:37
Speaker 2: All right, New Bud coming out, Uh tell people again title I can between two legends coming out in August, Ye coming out in August. Football Jeremy and Caleb Castill. Ben Watson joins US now a SEC network. Ben, what's up man? How are you?
00:36:17
Speaker 6: Man? It's kind of weird.
00:36:18
Speaker 15: I was just saying, like, I feel like I feel like I'm in the Twilight Zone, probably because we're on the West Coast, but also because I recognize your beautiful faces. Yeah, just but just not in this place trying to like put things together and figure out like making up. Why am I seeing y'all? What time is it two Central? It looks like six, yeah, as.
00:36:40
Speaker 1: We sit here and record this. Yeah, the time zone is weird.
00:36:43
Speaker 2: We were talking about the other day we got off like our show is three to six Central, but we were in Vegas for two days and it was one to four and we got off at four, and then we're watching Tennessee and Old Miss play basketball at four o'clock in the afternoon.
00:36:56
Speaker 1: I couldn't do the West Coast. I know how they do it out here.
00:36:58
Speaker 15: I mean they get up on Sundays and they watched NFL football with like breakfast.
00:37:02
Speaker 1: Yeah.
00:37:03
Speaker 2: Yeah, exactly fifteen years in the league, man, you look great, you can I look that way, but get a call from.
00:37:10
Speaker 1: The Patriots play this weekend?
00:37:12
Speaker 15: Well not not if they checked all my MRIs and my X rays and on that side.
00:37:17
Speaker 10: On that side of it, how'd you last fifteen years in that league?
00:37:21
Speaker 6: What was key? I was very very stubborn, very stubborn. I start with stubborn.
00:37:26
Speaker 15: Yeah, I do, because I did not listen to my wife. She told me to stop a long time ago. Probably would have saved several injuries later in my career.
00:37:33
Speaker 6: I would have stopped.
00:37:34
Speaker 15: Yeah, But part of it is is stubborness, but also being in the right places with some really good people. And even as I look at this game with you know, everybody's talking about Sam Darnold in the turnaround that he's made. But really it just points to the fact that in sports, and you guys know this in your job, like it matters where you where you start off, like for for good or for worse, It matters where you're at, Like who are the people around you, what's the situation on the team. Is that team even viable? Is there a place for you? Like you may go to a team that is already full at your position on the roster, and so part of it for me also was being in good places. But then, especially later in my career, and it was sixteen because I got that extra you know.
00:38:16
Speaker 1: Year, Oh you did.
00:38:17
Speaker 6: Yeah, that's a big deal.
00:38:18
Speaker 15: With Yeah, yeah, that's a big But later in your career, I think you start to realize that, Okay, what else can I offer this team?
00:38:31
Speaker 6: I'm the old guy.
00:38:32
Speaker 15: I gotta perform, But how am I pouring into these other guys? And how does that increase my value at a stage when you might not be able to jump as high as you used to be able to jump.
00:38:43
Speaker 10: Yeah, So you talk about starting off right too. I mean rookie year, drafted first round and you go win a Super Bowl and your your first year and you're with the Patriots and you're in that uh you know that that kind of dynasty area. And how much did that help to kind of shape you in and let you know what has to be done to be successful.
00:39:05
Speaker 15: Well, it shaped me tremendously, largely because you know that game I couldn't play because I tore my ICL. Yeah, and so I had this bittersweet feeling. But I also was able to watch this team from the outside being that I was in the training room and watch what it meant to prepare every single week.
00:39:21
Speaker 6: For a game, like preparation.
00:39:24
Speaker 15: And you've heard this before, but preparation really was and is a secret sauce to success, and especially with New England, it was about being prepared. I mean, you knew everything about your opponent and if you didn't know it, Belichick was going to put you on front street in the meeting and cuss.
00:39:41
Speaker 6: You out and embarrassing.
00:39:42
Speaker 15: And what I mean by that is, you know, I remember walking in there as a rookie, and yeah, walking as a rookie, and you got your big playbook there, and you see everybody like looking at the playbook and I'm like, Okay, I'm going to know my plays and they're like, no, you need to know the scouting report about the guys you're going to play against. And we getting the team meeting and Coach Belichick asked me about the outside linebacker and I don't know his name or his school. And it's a problem because not only do you need to know his name in his school if he gets hurt, you need to know the guy who's coming in after him, and how good they are, and the way they go speed to power.
00:40:17
Speaker 6: You need to know those sorts of things.
00:40:18
Speaker 15: Matter of fact, you need to know that if we're playing this team and they have this certain crew officiating crew, this crew likes to call past interference a lot, and so U dbs don't get handsy in.
00:40:31
Speaker 6: This game, this game next week.
00:40:33
Speaker 15: You can punch a wide receiver in the stomach if you want you they're not gonna call it. And so it's all those little things that I was able to learn and appreciate there and then when I left there in when other places it's not like that in other places. And that's part of the reason why the Patriots were so successful for so many years.
00:40:51
Speaker 12: So this team right here, this Patriots team, Ben, tell me why if you disagree. I'm feeling like the shoe has to fall at some point, like Cinderella got to hop back in the chair, and then Cinderella.
00:41:07
Speaker 1: The Patriots because of their schedule.
00:41:09
Speaker 12: I'm just saying like it's a lot of things that fell in place for them, you know what I mean. The bride didn't come to the wedding, so somebody that just stand in they have to be the only one there to get married. So I'm just saying, man, at some point, does this team right here? At some point the boat Knicks can't get injured all like the snow and everything like it is, everything changes.
00:41:31
Speaker 7: Can this team go get it done against the Seattle bunch?
00:41:33
Speaker 6: Well, the thing is about do you feel they can get it done? The thing is about football.
00:41:37
Speaker 15: The reason why I feel like they can get it done is because football is sixty minutes and it's one time. We're not talking about a seven game series where you know, the Patriots in Seattle and Seattle's really good on defense, Patriots aren't that great in the red zone defense, Seattle's really explosive on offense, and that matchup it's going to be difficult for New England. But it's one game of sixty minutes, it's not a seven game series.
00:42:07
Speaker 6: So can they get it done?
00:42:08
Speaker 15: Yeah, you can get it done one time, and quite frankly, you just don't know what's going to happen in the game to where you have an opportunity. That's that's the beauty and the anngst of playing football is that sometimes the best team on paper does not win.
00:42:26
Speaker 6: I mean, we won eighteen games.
00:42:28
Speaker 15: In a row in New England and lost the nineteenth and they winning close. If y'all were better than played him three or four times, well we actually that was the third time we played them with in the preseason and the regular season we.
00:42:40
Speaker 6: Played him another time.
00:42:41
Speaker 15: We probably win, but you got to come up and play well on that game. So can the Patriots win this game? Heck yeah, they can win the game. I think it's going to be if they win, I think it's going to be a title.
00:42:53
Speaker 2: That was David Tyreek cadu it yeah, not to exhale, didn't you.
00:43:04
Speaker 1: Catch? And it was you know what?
00:43:06
Speaker 6: It's crazy about that catch?
00:43:07
Speaker 1: Like a lot of things.
00:43:09
Speaker 6: All right.
00:43:09
Speaker 15: So so there's there's something called the Super Bowl Gospel Concert and uh, basically it started.
00:43:15
Speaker 6: I was part of the first one.
00:43:16
Speaker 15: Not that I can sing, but it's a group of NFL players during the Super Bowl. They get you together. Donavon Clark at one time was like leading it, and you have different you have a gospel concert.
00:43:24
Speaker 6: Then there's a player's choir. It's really fun. It's really fun. I think they still do it.
00:43:30
Speaker 1: You should check it out.
00:43:31
Speaker 10: Okay real quick, just I'm diverting here, but is there somebody that was really good like singing wise that would surprise us, like players.
00:43:38
Speaker 6: Yes, yes, besides Michael Gaines tight end for really yes he could he could blow.
00:43:46
Speaker 4: Uh.
00:43:47
Speaker 6: There's a there's a d lineman from Oklahoma played for the Bears.
00:43:52
Speaker 15: Uh and his name is Slipping Me And if he hears this, he's gonna kill me because he's a friend of mine.
00:43:57
Speaker 6: On But there were a couple guys I s the rest of us cannot.
00:44:00
Speaker 15: But anyway, but anyway, I meet I meet David Tyree for the first time at the at the gospel concert, and so we talk whatever. He's he's a believer as in my and so I was like, man, great to meet another believer, you know, playing for the Giants.
00:44:14
Speaker 6: I was playing for the New England at the time.
00:44:16
Speaker 15: So we're sitting there at the game and we're like about to win this game. I'm the Super Bowl. I'm thinking my fans, that my family's walking down and everything. I mean, the game is coming to an end, and I'm sitting there on the on the bench, you know, because the defense on the field, all of a sudden, Eli does what Eli did, throws the ball.
00:44:32
Speaker 6: David Kyrie Toches catches it, and I'm like, who was that?
00:44:36
Speaker 15: Who was that David David David Tyree, I just saw him. Lord, why are you listening to his prayers?
00:44:47
Speaker 8: Yeah?
00:44:47
Speaker 6: We both Christians.
00:44:49
Speaker 1: He went down on ts you went on one.
00:44:52
Speaker 6: Was prostrates. Yeah, man, so that was that was my David Tyree story.
00:44:57
Speaker 2: And that hatch out Man. Thank you for I'm sharing that. Yeah, that's that's great.
00:45:02
Speaker 6: Bro.
00:45:02
Speaker 1: Been watching SEC network check about there. Appreciate your time, Man, good to see you.
00:45:08
Speaker 6: Thanks, Matt. I want to say this.
00:45:09
Speaker 15: I am here though representing International Justice Mission. So one of the things I have a podcast called The Just Life, and we talk about justice issues around the world and around the country. And so one of the things we talk about is human trafficking right now. There are fifty million people in the world right now, which is the population of Florida and Texas. Combuty comprehend that that are in some form of modern day slavery. And so in my podcast, I talk with you attorneys, lay people, pastors, entrepreneurs who engage in different issues of justice. And I'm partnering with IJM to bring awareness to the issue of human trafficking right now. So part of the reason why I'm here at job is to talk about that. So if people want to learn about it, it's one of those things that we don't think about a whole lot, But they can go to IJM dot org to hear more information. They can check out my podcast as well as in all podcast platforms.
00:46:01
Speaker 6: It's called The Just Life. So I appreciate that.
00:46:04
Speaker 10: How'd you get passionate about that?
00:46:06
Speaker 6: How to get passion?
00:46:07
Speaker 15: For about the last decade, my wife and I have supported this organization. We actually have taken some other players and their spouses to the field to Dominican Republic, Ghana.
00:46:19
Speaker 6: To see some of their works.
00:46:21
Speaker 15: And so I believe that, you know, if you want to support something, you should try your very best to actually go see.
00:46:26
Speaker 6: It on the ground.
00:46:27
Speaker 15: And so my own ramp to combating trafficking and having a heart for that is because I'm a descendant of traffic people. I'm a descendant of people who are trafficked primarily to this country and others. I'm a descendant of people who, through convict leasing, were trafficked still after the abolition of slavery, and so to me, when I look at people that are enslaved against their will, it moves me and I want to use whatever voice and platform I have to advocate for them.
00:47:00
Speaker 1: Awesome Ben, just life too great job. Just describe here, well go, thank you, So there you go.
00:47:04
Speaker 8: All right?
00:47:05
Speaker 9: Uh?
00:47:05
Speaker 2: Coming on next Brian Jones and Slay together. That's gonna be something BJ. Next three each other
Speaker 1: Three h L one O four five.

00:23:19
Speaker 3: Oh, here we go.
00:23:22
Speaker 7: It's okay, we'll go sec.

00:23:29
Speaker 5: How are you excellent? Doing well?
00:23:32
00:35:37
