On this Make a Difference Minute, Alan Nichols of Dogpatch Q shares how Operation BBQ Relief brings hot meals to communities affected by disasters.
I met Alan, a Vietnam veteran and longtime volunteer, at The Butcher - Meat Co. The Butcher's Smoke and Flames Barbeque Cookoff in Vinemont, Alabama.
What began in 2011 with barbecue teams coming together to feed people following a disaster has grown into an effort that has served more than 13 million meals. Alan shares how volunteers travel into disaster-stricken communities, prepare thousands of meals, and build lasting friendships through their service.
Recognized as Operation BBQ Relief Volunteer of the Year in 2019, Alan continues to give his time because he believes in the work & the people behind it.
