00:00:08
Speaker 1: That's okay, because he is.
00:00:27
Speaker 2: Every week I ask a listener to send in a voice memo detailing one of their most embarrassing childhood stories. Yes we know, we're not alone. And this week we hear from Claire, who found a new way to be embarrassed for being in band.
00:00:42
Speaker 3: Okay, this is a very embarrassing story.
00:00:45
Speaker 2: My name is Claire.
00:00:48
Speaker 4: And when I was let's say, fifteen years old, I still had a tooth that I didn't lose and it needed to fall out. And I played the trumpet in my school, and because we all had to play an instrument, and I was playing the trumpet in our holiday program concert in front of a big crowd. And as I was playing the trumpet, I knew I was playing the right notes and following everything correctly for the song. And all of a sudden, I start hearing the wrong noises and I'm wondering what am I doing wrong? And then I'm like, wait, something's in my trumpet, And all of a sudden, there goes my loose tooth flying out my trumpet. It was so embarrassing, so I had to run.
00:01:31
Speaker 5: Off the stage and I couldn't find my tooth, and I was even more embarrassing to say I was still losing a tooth at that age, but for it to come out of my trumpet even worse.
00:01:42
Speaker 3: Honestly, it's impressive. I'm impressed, Claire.
00:01:46
Speaker 2: Were you worried about the tooth fairy? Why did you feel they need to find your tooth?
00:01:50
Speaker 3: Yeah? I feel like at that point you just pretended to.
00:01:53
Speaker 2: Just ignore it. Just the tooth lives where it lives now.
00:01:57
Speaker 3: And there's so many you can say that you knocked your tooth with trumpet.
00:02:00
Speaker 2: Oh my gosh, a tooth, not my baby tooth that I still had.
00:02:04
Speaker 3: Even if it is small, But no one's gonna find it. Be like my I would say. The most embarrassing thing that happened to me I didn't even do. I was invited to like a party for the first time.
00:02:17
Speaker 2: In high school.
00:02:18
Speaker 3: Yeah okay, and like definitely did not fit in well. And they they bullied me. Guys, they pushed me into the pool.
00:02:27
Speaker 2: What you fully clothed, It wasn't a party.
00:02:30
Speaker 3: It was not a pool party. I turned it into a pool party.
00:02:34
Speaker 2: I think did other people got but I was what did you do?
00:02:38
Speaker 3: I got up? I was like, oh, this is cool, this is cool.
00:02:41
Speaker 2: Did they have a towel for you?
00:02:43
Speaker 3: They might have got me a telego. I can't remember. I see I blacked out the rest. Oh, but yeah, no it was I was not a cool kid.
00:02:52
Speaker 2: This is so mean.
00:02:53
Speaker 3: Kids were mean, Kids are mean. Don't be mean, kids, do not be mean.
00:02:57
Speaker 2: Also, pushing people into the pool. What if you your ankles, what if you hit the bottom? Well, I know so many bad things happened. Well, we were tour mates this past year on the big Dancing with the Stars Live tour, and that opens up an entirely new set of ways to potentially embarrass yourself. Yes, I know myself doing the same routine every night, barely remembering which city you're in. Do you remember anything in particular from tours that felt like your tooth flying through the trumpet moment?
00:03:28
Speaker 3: Oh for sure. I mean there's so many. And on tour it's the best because it's like it's a fun environment.
00:03:33
Speaker 2: Yes, everyone super supportive.
00:03:36
Speaker 3: Exactly, And the thing about you know, both the show and the tour are both unbelievable. There's no stress on tour. Yeah, no one's going.
00:03:44
Speaker 2: Home right when you're just judged that.
00:03:46
Speaker 3: Exactly just by the audience. But that's it.
00:03:48
Speaker 2: Yeah, that's it.
00:03:49
Speaker 3: My first tour, I was actually with So you Think you Can Dance? And I ripped my pants, and I've ripped my pants a lot on tour, so I feel like that's a bigger issue got to get into. I ripped my pants and I was like, Oh, I'm going to turn around and show everyone and that I ripped my pants.
00:04:05
Speaker 2: Because it'll be funny.
00:04:06
Speaker 3: Embrace it. Everyone's like, what the hell are you doing? If I probably should have done that, that was not the red choice because I just like, flash, yeah, what are you wearing underwear? Yeah? Of course, thank god.
00:04:19
Speaker 2: I was like, what did you forget?
00:04:20
Speaker 3: You were okay, no, no, but there's so many times that you like fall on stage.
00:04:25
Speaker 1: Oh yeah.
00:04:26
Speaker 2: I saw a video before I went on tour. I looked up videos because I was like, I want to see what some of these tours have looked like. And one of them came up and I don't remember what happened, but he's.
00:04:35
Speaker 3: A really good one of me and Lindsay Arnold.
00:04:37
Speaker 2: You and Lindsay Arnold and you fell just flat on It was really cool.
00:04:42
Speaker 3: I felt like Shack, you know, when he falls down and there's like the thing that he can't get out. I was dragging Lindsay and I don't know if I tripped on her foot or what happened, and I just brought her down with me and then I quickly pushed her up and I was like, oh, kip up. It was really cool how I cover, But it was There's videos of people like, oh yeah, definitely did not look natural.
00:05:06
Speaker 2: The funniest part was that when I saw you next, I said, oh, my gosh, Alan, I saw that video of you from tour, and he goes, which video of me? And I go the one where you fell. He goes, no, that I fall on a bunch of times. I know one, and I was like, oh, but you're I mean, now that I've been on tour, yea, it is impossible to do that many shows and not for everyone. The amount of times we mess up in a show.
00:05:34
Speaker 3: I'm trying to think now. I don't think I had any bad ones.
00:05:37
Speaker 2: This last tour you were on was on fire fire.
00:05:41
Speaker 3: No. There was one where me and Daniella had a mismatch, a miss.
00:05:45
Speaker 2: Misgrad mis grab, and then what happened.
00:05:47
Speaker 3: She kind of rolled to the ground and we got right back up. Okay, Like if you don't know, you don't know. It wasn't like a oh I fell or I dropped her or anything.
00:05:56
Speaker 2: How long does it take you to get used to not being able to make a face when like, because for me, when I would mess up, it's the very next thing that happens is I go yeah, And Pasha would say me, nobody knows until you make that face.
00:06:11
Speaker 3: Yeah, I would say, nobody knows one hundred percent until you make that face. I think it depends like if I'm doing something by myself and I fall, I'm going to make the face. Of course, if I'm on the show or if it's like something important, no, you won't know. And I feel like no one would know your dance.
00:06:31
Speaker 2: That's what Pasha would say. Pash would be like, I could have told you to do that. I could have like it could have been a thing, And I'm like, but I literally don't know how to make my face not do that.
00:06:39
Speaker 3: Yeah, I think it's just because you're like the scary part is when you're on the TV show and you mess up, You're like, yeah, and am I going to be able to get back on? And I think that's where muscle memory comes in and it's like trust yourself, yeah, and like your partner is there for you totally. But yeah, no, that is definitely. I think you just got to like it's just trust knowing that you know it. And on tour it's you know, the tambourines. I feel like everyone messed up a bunch of times, but it's such a fun moment that it's like who cares exactly. There's so many times valves just like a.
00:07:11
Speaker 2: Fowl and the vowel and the tambourine is one of my favorite things ever.
00:07:13
Speaker 3: So it's like there's moments where it's it's like whatever, yeah, and there's moments where you're like you don't want to mess up.
00:07:20
Speaker 2: Obviously, Yes, obviously there are very important moments, especially where you do lifts. It's like, okay, you can't take your chances with and you're lifting somebody in the air. Did you like doing tour? You did over ninety shows and I can't imagine how anyone did that.
00:07:36
Speaker 3: Yeah, we did ninety seven shows this tour, which was a lot. I think everyone was kind of feeling it. I will say I love it. Yeah, And I have Emma on tour. I have my dog Jeff on tour.
00:07:50
Speaker 2: Oh, Jeff, I know, it's the best.
00:07:53
Speaker 3: So it's like, to me, it's like I get to do what I love in front of thousands of fans every night who love the show, who love us. It's it's truly a dream come true. So even though it can get really tough by the end of it and like your bodies are hurting, to me, touring is one of the best things because you get to connect with that audience, you know. And again, there's no stress.
00:08:18
Speaker 2: I wouldn't say there's no stress. You just mean there's no stress of being voted off.
00:08:24
Speaker 3: There's no stress of like having to create new dances and getting voted off and having to like the competitive part of Dancing with the Stars, Like the competition part is one of the hardest parts. You're right, you know, the dancing of it and learning and dance and being in the rehearsals is almost fun.
00:08:44
Speaker 2: Yeah, you know.
00:08:44
Speaker 3: Yeah, it's a lot of hard work, but it's not scary. And I think when you're scared, that's the hardest part of anything, and on tour, I feel like you're not scared.
00:08:55
Speaker 2: Yeah, you're not afraid of anything.
00:08:56
Speaker 3: Yeah, So yeah, it's very stressful to live on bus and this, but like, you know, you never have to cook now.
00:09:05
Speaker 2: But that's hard too, to not have your own space, space, your own comforts of home. Even as far as like taking care of your body, You're always like, is there a gym? Can I go to the gym? You know, and then trying to figure out it, like when do I get up and do I explore the city? And for the first couple of months it's freezing everywhere.
00:09:22
Speaker 3: That's also the hardest part is like when we're touring on the East Coast in January and February and it's negative five degrees.
00:09:30
Speaker 2: Yeah, and you're in and out of hotels occasionally, and now you're dragging your luggage occasionally there's an occasional hotel here and there.
00:09:37
Speaker 3: No, it's very tough on the body, yeah, But to me, I'm like, it's so rewarding.
00:09:43
Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, I can see how it pays off.
00:09:45
Speaker 3: So I love the tour.
00:09:47
Speaker 2: I mean, trust me, I loved it too. I wish I And that was one of the things that I loved so much is that I think it was so easy for me to love every second of it because I was like, this is my one and only chance they're not going to ask me next year. They better I'm telling you, they better ask me every year. I'll just I just come and you know, do a surprise, A surprise.
00:10:07
Speaker 3: Surprise, surprised, every surprise, every by myself. You enjoyed the tour though, I.
00:10:13
Speaker 2: Loved every single second of it, and I want to go back immediately.
00:10:15
Speaker 3: I know it's so much fun.
00:10:17
Speaker 2: Yeah, talking about you loving to have fun. Yes, you do not ever take yourself too seriously, which I love. And nothing is more obvious of that than Disney Night. Oh yes, I would like to get ahead of this now this coming season. Are you already thinking about Disney Night?
00:10:46
Speaker 3: Can I tell you? I never think about it. It's what my partner wants. So Elona was like, we were doing She didn't say we're doing it, but we did a in content.
00:10:58
Speaker 2: Huh, great movie and it made.
00:11:00
Speaker 3: So much sense. And obviously she was Louisa, and I was like, there's only one obvious choice. I'm the donkey. There's what else would I be. So it's like I didn't choose it chose me. And then Elaine was part of Space Mountain right, and it's like alien, I don't have a choice. I have to be an alien because what else am I going to be? And also the year two years before that, I was with Jesse James Decker and we did hocus Pocus and I had to be Billy Butcherson because I can't be one of the witches, one of the sisters.
00:11:38
Speaker 2: So I make some suggestions for you. Okay, what about Heimlich the giant chubby caterpillar from It's a Bug Life. It's a Bug's Life.
00:11:47
Speaker 3: Listen, I keep going. I like this.
00:11:49
Speaker 2: Okay, what about the boy in up.
00:11:52
Speaker 3: The house?
00:11:53
Speaker 2: I'll could be the house or the balloon or the balloon.
00:11:57
Speaker 3: I listen. I don't do this for Halloween. Everyone dresses up for Halloween.
00:12:00
Speaker 2: I what about Bingbong from Inside Out?
00:12:04
Speaker 3: Yes, okay, these are all good works. Just keep going.
00:12:07
Speaker 2: Reach out to me. When we get closer, reach out to me. I will help you out.
00:12:11
Speaker 3: I go for quasi moto. I go for the outrageous ones.
00:12:16
Speaker 2: Can we also take this moment to clear this up? Finally, we were told to pick something from disney Land.
00:12:22
Speaker 3: Correct, Yeah, you were there, no shade to it. I feel like we felt the same pain. A few I'm going to bring up a few points a few episodes this season. Actually, first of all, they said, it is disney landsney seventieth birthday.
00:12:38
Speaker 2: Pick a song or a ride from the land.
00:12:42
Speaker 3: Okay, that's all I'm going to say there. Space Mountain is a very notable ride.
00:12:46
Speaker 1: Yeah.
00:12:47
Speaker 3: I don't know about any other ones, but that is notable. Okay, what did you do?
00:12:51
Speaker 2: I did I want to be like you from the Jungle Jungle Book?
00:12:55
Speaker 3: Yes at Disneyland, Yes, correct, they have a ride.
00:12:57
Speaker 2: They do, and you went on it and I went on it and it was.
00:12:59
Speaker 3: Fan and your package made sense.
00:13:01
Speaker 2: And my package perfectly made made sense.
00:13:03
Speaker 3: So did mine. Another thing was when we did Dedication night huh and they said, oh, you should have the people in your dance. Yep.
00:13:12
Speaker 2: Now, I mean this is what you could have a bone to pick with me here, because I did have a ninety nine year old man on the ballroom floor and he did not dance.
00:13:21
Speaker 3: It was tough. I could I see your side?
00:13:23
Speaker 2: Okay, he did stand, he did stand against the dance, yes, and then say.
00:13:28
Speaker 3: Yes, which again I loved it. The nostalgia of that, yeah, makes up for the movement. You don't need it, Okay. With some other people like they were like, oh, you made a strong choice by putting Lisa Ann in your dance. I was like, they told us, so, they told me to. I'm so glad we did. I loved it.
00:13:45
Speaker 2: It was so great.
00:13:46
Speaker 3: But I'm like they should have been like, hey, you really took the challenge and you you did it.
00:13:52
Speaker 2: Was having Lisa Ann as a part of that dance one of the inspirations for your dance you did on tour with Jenna and.
00:14:00
Speaker 3: And Haley No no, but I will say it was awesome having Lisa and yeah, you know, first of all, she was in the audience every single.
00:14:09
Speaker 2: Line every week, color coordinated.
00:14:11
Speaker 3: Color coordinated. She would ask Elaine what color her dress was and she would show up. And she was also filming Abbed Elementary at the time, I know, so she was like telling them, like, guys, I have a heart out I need to be which is insane so cute. But it was so nice having her there. I know Elaine really benefited from having that support there. Yeah, but having Lisa in the dance was just awesome, so cool, you know, like it honestly made the weak like really care free, even though it was even more stressful because there was another person, but they you could just see Elaine and Lisa having so much fun that I.
00:14:46
Speaker 2: Was just like, oh my god, you can tell their friendship really lightens them up and make.
00:14:51
Speaker 3: Them and it was. It was great. So I'm glad I did that for dedication night.
00:14:56
Speaker 2: Yes, anything else, any other any other things you'd like to get off your chest. I love that you're a rule follower.
00:15:03
Speaker 3: TikTok Night.
00:15:04
Speaker 2: Okay, let's start with first week TikTok Night.
00:15:07
Speaker 3: They were like, you can't use the dances, and they're like, okay, now some of you guys can use the dances from the dance and I'll too late. Now, too late, I can't learn gnarly.
00:15:18
Speaker 2: Also, the choreographer from my TikTok dance wouldn't clear it really, so some people got the benefit of using it and other people then couldn't.
00:15:29
Speaker 3: No, honestly that one. Did you like TikTok Night?
00:15:33
Speaker 2: I did because I got to do a Sabrina Carpenter song and obviously, yeah, that was very fun for me. But in general as a theme, it was not my favorite.
00:15:42
Speaker 3: See I kind of liked it because it was the first time we did it. I I mean, not on my opinion matters, but like it would have been like when you do some it's hard to qualify. What is a TikTok correct night, like a TikTok song, right, you know? So I feel like if they do it again, they should try to do like more narrow it down. But then it's like, if you're not on TikTok, you don't know what it is. So it's hard. But I think it was. It was a cool night to do random music, yes.
00:16:13
Speaker 2: Yes, yeah, then the dance has got to be kind of all over the.
00:16:16
Speaker 3: Place, which is nice. It is nice, you know. I agree, Yeah, I think those are all the bones.
00:16:34
Speaker 2: I know, your brother Jean, his daughter, your twelve year old niece, Isabella is an incredible dancer, winning competitions. Do you think she's a future Dancing with the Stars.
00:16:42
Speaker 3: But I hope so. I wish they were still doing Juniors because then they would have been perfect for her. Yeah, you know, because now we have Riley who was on Juniors, Haley who's on Troop, was on Juniors. But it's it's it's such a great way to it's a runway, yeah, you know, And it allows you to be on TV and learn this thing and then mature a little bit and grow up, and so I feel like Juniors was such an incredible show. But yeah, no, I Isabella my niece. She's so great and like she's really loving it, and I hope the show is around for you know. I think she's thirteen now, so five more years for her to be able to be a problem.
00:17:27
Speaker 2: You could give her one piece of advice, what would you give her?
00:17:34
Speaker 3: Good question? Honestly trust yourself and do it because you love it, you know, And honestly that do it because you love it. I learned from Sky Brown, and it's so simple and it's so true. Just do things because you enjoy them. Don't do them for a goal.
00:17:54
Speaker 2: Yep.
00:17:54
Speaker 3: You know you might have a goal in mind, but don't make that the reason why you're doing something. Enjoy the thing that you're doing and if something good comes from it, great, and if it doesn't, great, You're still doing what you love, you know. So I would say to anyone if you're dancing and your goal is to be on Dancing with the Stars, if you don't get that goal, at least you're still enjoying dance, you know, so do it because you love it.
00:18:22
Speaker 2: Wonderful, Well, Alan, thank you so much. I am very excited to cheer you on next season season thirty five. I can't wait to hear who you're your celebs, and I'm so happy I will not be competing against you.
00:18:35
Speaker 3: Are you going to be there every week?
00:18:37
Speaker 2: I mean, I'm going to try to be there. I'm that is my goal. My goal is that they that Dina's like, God darn it, how do we get rid of her? That's why I just I just.
00:18:45
Speaker 3: Want to annoy Daniell's.
00:18:48
Speaker 2: We didn't even invite her this week. You know we were filmed exactly.
00:18:52
Speaker 3: How did you know?
00:18:54
Speaker 2: So don't forget. We will be together in Palm Springs for the Ultimate Dancing with the Stars Fan Convention and live show July thirty first to August second in Palm Springs. Limited tickets are still available now at dwts con dot com. It's gonna be It's gonna be fun. We're looking forward to it, so we hope to see you there out there.
00:19:15
Speaker 3: There's ping pong. It's gonna be fun.
00:19:17
Speaker 2: You can't get rid of me.
00:19:18
Speaker 3: I'm so glad. That's the best thing I've ever heard.
00:19:20
Speaker 2: Thank you for being here.
00:19:21
Speaker 3: Oh You're the best. Thank you.

Thank you.
