00:00:00
Speaker 1: What's good?
00:00:02
Speaker 2: Was good? What up as much? And you're checking out the Cruise Show podcast?
00:00:07
Speaker 1: Right?
00:00:08
Speaker 2: Yeah, Destiny Rogers is on the Cruise Show. She's here.
00:00:11
Speaker 1: Ah, thank you guys.
00:00:12
Speaker 2: I'm scared too excited.
00:00:14
Speaker 1: No, no, I walked in. I was like, holy shit, this is like everything that I've seen, Like I've watched videos of interviews my whole life, and now I'm in the room.
00:00:21
Speaker 2: Now you're here. Welcome.
00:00:25
Speaker 1: I'm so excited we're here.
00:00:26
Speaker 2: Now. You know Jackie, you know Nico, you know DJ.
00:00:29
Speaker 1: Known them since the beginning. Yep, since the beginning.
00:00:33
Speaker 2: Crazy, yeah, since the beginning.
00:00:36
Speaker 1: Yep.
00:00:36
Speaker 2: It's been a Has it been a tough tough road?
00:00:39
Speaker 1: Yep?
00:00:39
Speaker 2: Yeah? Independent now, yes, yes.
00:00:42
Speaker 1: I've been. I was with RCA from twenty nineteen to twenty twenty two. Yeah, and then independent then.
00:00:49
Speaker 3: To now independent. Is that's tough, But isn't that better in a way?
00:00:54
Speaker 1: Yeah? The toughest. The toughest part is like you're having to fund everything on your own, so it's like you don't you can't promote it the way promote music the way that you can with a major by your side. You don't have the connects, you don't have the people. You know, once it's out, you have the machine. You just don't have the machine. Like the machine has to be you. So nowadays it's like just content all the time. That's the machine, and.
00:01:20
Speaker 3: Just wherever you are, do some tiktoks before you leave. Yeah, you're the machine.
00:01:27
Speaker 2: Now, I know. I know.
00:01:29
Speaker 1: So like it's like literally like it's up to me to just like get the ground. Yeah no, I just like can't rely on anyone to do it for me. I gotta do it for me.
00:01:38
Speaker 4: But that's also so rewarding too, when you see the fruits of your labor, just like you know, be like so accepted and when you work, so.
00:01:47
Speaker 1: When the wind, when the wind comes, it's gonna be like wow, like I never stopped, Like yeah, it's gonna be crazy, which I think is so important, right, Like why is that? Like how is it hard for you to do that, like to get online and like actually talk to your people, not like just as an artist, but like as a friend. No not really, not really, I mean I just love to talk in general. I've been like that even like in high school. I was always like posting videos if he's talking, like on you because I started well, yeah with like YouTube videos, and I love doing interviews and so like even like with just like building my community, like even when it comes to the community and the industry, and like you know, starting so young, the relationships I built at a young age, like they still support me now. So it's like whenever I have a release or whenever I have something coming up, they're just like, what do you need me for? I got you. So it's like really nice that people like you guys you know, still have my back.
00:02:47
Speaker 3: Like of course, like you got friends here. Man.
00:02:49
Speaker 1: It's like whenever I need something, it's like, yo, gotha whatever.
00:02:53
Speaker 2: That's right now. I'm building relationships and friendships, right, Yeah, did you lose your car here the other day? Did you find it?
00:03:00
Speaker 1: That'd be Nico he snitched on. Okay, so y'all know how it damn scary it is in that garage when literally because it took I was like down on like P two but in the trenches, like it was like I was in the house in the back corner. It's not even lit up back there. It's dark, no no service. It's an s O S on my phone because I was gonna hit Nick and be like, yo, bro, I'm losting to someone sell me. So I'm walking and I'm by myself, and I'm like, and it's quiet. It's quiet in there, but you can hear cars underneath or above or whatever. And I'm like, bro, I got no service. And I see Nico walking with his back back and I was like Nika, and he was like. I was like, I lost my car. I'm screaming at him from across the parking lost my car. And he was like, oh ship, and he was like looking around and I was like, bro, it's not even worth it. I just I just got to go find it myself. And I was hitting my key. Was no ring, but I think like there it was sweaty at, yeah, it was hot. And he was just like, well, I gotta go.
00:04:08
Speaker 2: And I was like, I was just gonna say.
00:04:12
Speaker 1: I felt hell of bed, but then she said no, you're good. I'm like, I'm not gonna have him walk around. I know he had somewhere to be, you know, he was going to his car. I believe you're in some.
00:04:21
Speaker 2: Ship with Nico and you release him. He is happy about.
00:04:25
Speaker 1: I was like, I'm not gonna expect you to help me right now. You don't even know what car, I drive like.
00:04:30
Speaker 2: Still just stand there for support.
00:04:33
Speaker 5: What made what made it worse was that like I pump faked her because I tried to find my car and then she all you heard was like and she was like, oh, that was mine.
00:04:42
Speaker 1: I was like, I'm hitting mine, and but he was hitting his and I heard I was like, he goes, no, that was mine. I was like, oh my god.
00:04:49
Speaker 3: Bro, He's like he's like gotcha, No, no, no, no, wait, can I defend myself?
00:04:59
Speaker 5: Because literally as soon as I got to my car, I was like, nah, bro, that's fucked up. I need to go find her. And then when I circled around, I couldn't see you anymore. I was like, okay, let me just let me just pray that she found her car. But I did circle.
00:05:12
Speaker 3: Don't ever get lost with Nico because his plan is the split so he could go find his way home. Nico's the guy. Yeah you know Jackie. No, Nico's just like, man, that's messed up, all right, bro?
00:05:23
Speaker 2: Well he let me know. That's Nico. Dog. I'm done.
00:05:36
Speaker 1: Yeah you can't. You came through with that mix. You made it all better. There you go, you made it all better. I forgot I forgot that happened.
00:05:43
Speaker 2: We brought it up. One thing about this show. We're gonna bring it back up.
00:05:46
Speaker 1: Okay, okay, we're.
00:05:46
Speaker 3: Gonna bring this back up. Favorite Girl. Congratulations. We were just listening to it. Yeah, clap it up his favorite girl. That that that embodies I think the sound of your voice and.
00:05:57
Speaker 2: The vibe that definitely that you said, the tone that you said. Yeah. Fun making it, Yeah.
00:06:02
Speaker 1: I had so much fun. Literally. Actually, the cool thing about being independent too is like you're in charge of your own timeline of when you want to drop. I'm used to making songs two years, three years in advance before it even drops, so I'm already like sick of the song by the time it comes. They don't sound new to me, you know. And with this one made it literally three months ago. Wow, Cause it's like it's like summertime, you know, and every summer my songs westlike in summer nights like make a resurgence during the summer. And I was like, you know, it was like, maybe I should just make something with this same feel and like go back to the bangers so that they have some new like material, you know, from me, and they're not bumping the early twenty twenty, you know versions of my music. I was like, let me just do this, And I worked on this song with my Boyfriendski's he's an amazing artist producer. It was actually our first time working together. We were put in a room and off rip. We just like we're eating some tacos and cracked a medello. We're just like we're just like chilling, like connecting like as like because I just know I don't like making sessions like feel like transact, like a transaction. It's like, Hey, what're you gonna do for me, you know, blah blah, Like no, I'm trying to like really like catch a vibe with you and trust you, you know, with my stuff. And so we just became like really really good friends within the first like thirty minutes. And that's him right there, Nico.
00:07:25
Speaker 3: Going back to Nico, Nico's like I've known him for years, but we've never met in person.
00:07:29
Speaker 1: Going back to Nico, Nico left.
00:07:34
Speaker 3: Them stranded on the internet, alone on the island.
00:07:39
Speaker 1: He's from Hawaii.
00:07:40
Speaker 2: He left them.
00:07:43
Speaker 6: He left, so there was a vibe and you guys made it was a vibe and like he had the beat to the record, like in his in.
00:07:53
Speaker 1: His laptop already made and he like played it.
00:07:56
Speaker 7: Well.
00:07:57
Speaker 1: We made two songs that night. The first one we did from scratch, but it was like midnight and we were like already packing up, like we were gonna leave. But I was like, yeah, wait, play that beat that you played me in the beginning of the night. And he played it and I was like yo. I was like, let me just get in the booth real quick and like lay lay some stuff down, and so we get in and I just started freestyling, like freestyled the whole song, the hook, freestyled the lyrics, freestyle like like favorite Girl was just like just came out and I said, yeah. I stepped out of the booth and I was like wait, I was like, let's just finish this real quick. It was like as I like freestyle the lyrics and everything, and so we just like you know, changed some things up to make it feel like a story a little bit, just like falling in love with someone through a screen and you're already claiming them even though like you haven't, like that's my favorite, Like I'm already claiming this, you know, yeah, and done that? No, I mean Delulu, Yeah, of course, the Delulu Delulu yeah, but no, yeah, So I uh just pretty much just went off that and it wasn't really a lot of pressure. It just it just flowed. And we finished the song in like two hours. So we went home and then I was like, we wrote that so fast? Is it even good? You know?
00:09:16
Speaker 2: It's like is it?
00:09:18
Speaker 1: Yeah?
00:09:18
Speaker 2: Yeah?
00:09:19
Speaker 1: So for like a month, like a month goes by and I still haven't like really played it for anyone because I'm like, is this even good? Like I wrote it so quick, like we just had a flow state. I was like, but I just almost like second guessing myself. And he was playing it for his friends like yo, yeah, they love it. They love it, and I'm like okay, like you know whatever. And then Franskis ends up playing it in a meeting with TikTok Sound on their distribution side, and they loved the record so much. They're like, Yo, what's destiny situation? We could put this out right now and put some support behind it and get this out before summer runs. And I was like shit. I was like, I was like, okay, well yeah, let's go.
00:10:00
Speaker 2: Let's go for it.
00:10:01
Speaker 1: So we perfected it. You just filmed a favorite girl acoustic version last night.
00:10:05
Speaker 2: That's right, that's right, that's your bag.
00:10:07
Speaker 1: Down like six b pm a song keys.
00:10:09
Speaker 2: And I'm not show an acoustic is your bag though?
00:10:13
Speaker 1: That because I grew up that way, because I grew up in church and my dad's a worship leader, so I became the worship leader of the youth group when I was thirteen. So I'm used to just like church, like that's what I like grew up on.
00:10:24
Speaker 2: Huh, do you like the church organs? No, you don't like church. I love church organs. I don't know why. I love that sound. It's like a funeral, bro.
00:10:33
Speaker 1: No, sounds like either a wedding they're talking or a funeral.
00:10:38
Speaker 2: And I don't know, but like I had that you know, those organs. I don't know, there's there's that sound there that I really like. I think Yay kind of uses it a little bit.
00:10:49
Speaker 4: Maybe was there that, like I guess worry of like you're not sure of the song sounding, you know, you being fully confident in the song because you're so used to working with it was like two or three years in advance.
00:11:02
Speaker 1: Yeah, that's it, that's actually it. I think. Yeah, I'm just so used to sitting with it for so like such a long amount of time. Then I feel sure. But because I was like, I was like, oh, I need to say and listen again, I'm like, yeah, I still like it. Two days later, I listen to it again, it's still slaps, you know. I just my mind wasn't changing about it. Like my mind wasn't And that's how when I heard that TikTok liked it, and you know, they're like, yo, there's like cool highlighting moments. And I was like, you're right, I'm like favorite girl. You could dedicate it to your mom. You can dedicate it to your daughter, your grandma, or your sister, your best friend. You know. Yeah, it's like it's like dudes can dedicate this to their girl. I could. You know, it's like this is for my favorite girl, and it could be a trend thing. Like that's when I'm gonna start doing. When the song drops, everyone posts your favorite girl. Who's your favorite girl? So can you do it for me?
00:11:56
Speaker 5: You make songs like that that are very I guess AULTI faster right, So like still your girl for example, Yeah, like that can go for like a daughter, a daughter. I mean that can go for like your.
00:12:08
Speaker 1: Girl, or something.
00:12:09
Speaker 5: Yeah, you know, like there's a lot of things that you can do with your music.
00:12:13
Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, is there a music video? No? Not at the moment. We're just like you know, low budget and depend it's like video TikTok is the music video and then you know, like doing this acoustic thing that we just shot last night, and then just gonna see what comes. But I'm already like in the process of like thinking of like, Okay, what's next, like because I'm gonna start being like extremely consistent and not like taking two years off and then coming back again and then another two years off.
00:12:42
Speaker 2: You just gotta go go go for it. You are the machine. It's all up to you exactly.
00:12:47
Speaker 7: You mentioned Medelos and Tacos and how they kind of like you know, set the tone.
00:12:50
Speaker 2: For you guys to make you know the music.
00:12:52
Speaker 7: But what other what other tips and tricks do you have to kind of like break the tension or break the ice when you're in a studio with somebody that you don't know you know, to potentially make these hits.
00:13:00
Speaker 1: I mean it's really good. I Mean a lot of artists are different. For me, I just love getting to know people like off Rip if you're quiet, if you're like, if I could just tell like, Okay, he's just here to do the music or you know whatever, it's like I I still will kind of like crack that shell. Like I have to talk to you for the first hour before I even start playing you what I'm doing. I gotta know where you're from. I gotta know where you come from. I gotta know your background. I gotta know, I gotta know the details. I gotta know how when did you move to l A. But blah, like I just.
00:13:30
Speaker 2: Want to ask him if they're.
00:13:37
Speaker 1: Frances are you ticklish?
00:13:49
Speaker 2: Yeah? You gotta know people though, right feel it?
00:13:51
Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, you gotta feel it.
00:13:52
Speaker 2: And so it feels like a business transaction.
00:13:55
Speaker 1: Yeah, I just got to yeah exactly, I just got to break the eyes. But some artists just don't care. There's like, yo, what's up all right here? What I've been working on? And it's just like why start off like that? The energy like that? Yeah, like just be like, hey, what's up? I'm destiny, you know, like be like in a good mood, and sometimes I'm in bad moods. And actually sometimes I'll walk in and I'll just be like, Hi, I'm sorry. We just I know, we just met, but like I've had a ship day. Can I talk about it? And then I'll just talk about it, you know, I really will. Like I don't come in pretending that I'm fine all the time. If I had a bad day and I'm tired or whatever, it's like, bro, my car is tired, got flat and blah blah blah, and I just came from the shop and like I'm exhausted.
00:14:35
Speaker 2: I just lost my car.
00:14:41
Speaker 1: Never gonna let that go.
00:14:43
Speaker 2: I got I got left.
00:14:47
Speaker 7: Like what do you do to remedy those moments when you have writer's block or like you're in the slump? Because I know a lot of artists that you know, they're extremely talented, but sometimes they're in their own head. So what do you do to remedy those situations?
00:14:59
Speaker 1: That's real? I mean, it is really good to take breaks, or if I'm stuck, I'll just be like, yo, let's just revisit tomorrow. You know, Like I noticed when I at least when I have writer's block, it obviously just like stresses me out and I overthink and I'm writing things down that like don't even make sense and like aren't even good. So I'm just like, why add that pressure on it myself? And like I'm like, maybe we just go I like going on walks. I like just like going on walks or going to seven to eleven and get a snack and listening to another song to get my mind off of this. So when I come back, it's like brand new to me.
00:15:32
Speaker 4: Yeah, because then you're forcing it at that point. Yeah, that doesn't make you feel good as an artist.
00:15:37
Speaker 1: Yeah, exactly, exactly Like me and Franski's like, we'll just go walk outside of the taco truck. There's a taco truck right outside our studio, so we'll just walk to the taco truck. We'll get like some hot cheetos and a beer, and we'll kick it for like forty five minutes, go on TikTok and like doom, scroll and laugh, and then I'm all right, bro, we got to get back to work. And then when we press play, it's like, okay, that's where we're left off.
00:15:58
Speaker 2: All right.
00:15:58
Speaker 1: It's like you're revisiting it, you know, and you already feel better, like the anxiety is off. Yeah, you know, yeah, taking Yeah, seriously, go sit in the quiet room. Don't listen to that beat over and over again, like you know, just go sit in the quiet room something.
00:16:17
Speaker 2: Yeah, you've been running.
00:16:18
Speaker 7: A lot of them.
00:16:19
Speaker 1: Mm hmmm I have. I have been in my little running bag, but it's been hot.
00:16:24
Speaker 4: Like yeah, like if you don't go at like seven am and you start like at nine am, you're done.
00:16:29
Speaker 2: No.
00:16:31
Speaker 1: No, I admire her. I just ask her so many questions about the running stuff because like that is something that I want to get like really really good at. Like I want to do races, I want I have goals for myself and I was doing it a lot until the summer hit and I'm just like, not, my schedule is just not cut out for me hitting a run at six in the morning or at night too, like like oh dude, Like I just talked to her about it the other day. It's like, yo, just do like just do it at like sunset, like do seven pm. And I'm like, bro, that means I got a shower twice a day, and I I'm I don't want to wash my hair twice a day, Like that's so weird.
00:17:03
Speaker 4: No, I get you like washing your hair like because you're at the same time around my wash Yes, yes, yes, I feel that that's so real the girls do.
00:17:15
Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean yeah, like and everything showers twice a day is crazy, right a day?
00:17:20
Speaker 1: It is, it is, And I'm just like, it's just no, I just can't. But I do it on the treadmill inside like of my gym. But even that running on a treadmill is boring. Like I'm bored after the second mile, and I'm like, it's better when you're outside because you can see different things. And yeah, it's like you have other things to think about. It's not just you want a treadmill.
00:17:40
Speaker 2: Like can you sing and run?
00:17:42
Speaker 1: No, I don't know. Maybe I've never tried to try.
00:17:45
Speaker 2: That doesn't that bill doesn't that build strength?
00:17:47
Speaker 1: You know? I I definitely I don't sing and run. But there's moments where like pray and run.
00:17:52
Speaker 2: Oh god, yeah, oh dude, oh yeah.
00:17:54
Speaker 1: Sometimes when I'm like fighting, like I'm like I'm like pushing through, I'll just freaking pray out loud.
00:18:00
Speaker 2: You know, you're praying and you start crying too those sometimes, right.
00:18:04
Speaker 3: No, no, No, it's sad situation, but it's cleansing.
00:18:09
Speaker 1: I guess, seriously, I'm just like yelling. I'm yelling like you know, but it's places I came to singing.
00:18:18
Speaker 2: Hey, doing the national anthem? Is that scary?
00:18:20
Speaker 1: Yeah, it's so scary. It's the scariest ninety seconds of my life.
00:18:26
Speaker 3: Yeah, all eyes on you, Yes, when you perform, all eyes on you as well, But you're you're not necessarily in your elements usually at a game, right, I think you and did that right.
00:18:36
Speaker 2: L A f C did.
00:18:37
Speaker 1: Yeah, we did l A f C DJ that night.
00:18:40
Speaker 2: Everyone's looking at you. The players are looking at you. It's silent, it's just your voice, right, Like.
00:18:45
Speaker 1: Isn't that something to have to like adjust to? Well? Yeah, so I have I have inars in so but it's I could still hear the slight delay, but like during soundtrack it's tough. But when the bodies fill in, the delay isn't as bad. But yeah, I'm just wanted to adjust because I've I've done Dodgers Stadium, Sofi Stadium and just now LA or the BMO Stadium. Sofi was crazy.
00:19:13
Speaker 4: I feel like Dodgers is fucking nut.
00:19:16
Speaker 1: That was crazy because I did do it to an organ. They have an organ player yeah see yeah, and I pulled up early to rehearse with him. Yeah, and then we did it together on the thing. But since these are like programmed national anthems, they all have to be under ninety seconds, so I have to kind of like keep yes, you know, I have to like stay.
00:19:36
Speaker 3: There's a part of you really want to like overdo it, but you know, but that's scary if you overdo it, because there's a chance you could play yourself while overdoing.
00:19:43
Speaker 1: It exactly, and that's a song. You just don't want to take that chance because if you do it, then you might forget the lyrics and then yeah, it's nerve wracking that song. That damn song, neamn.
00:19:56
Speaker 2: Song, that damn song, you forget the lyrics or screw that up?
00:19:59
Speaker 1: Oh my god, it's in your viral. Maybe I just.
00:20:06
Speaker 2: So it never gets easier.
00:20:07
Speaker 3: No, it doesn't know, That's what I was gonna ask. That's what do you know that the national anthem never gets easy?
00:20:13
Speaker 1: Black out? I black out, and then when I'm done, then like the sound persons like okay, give me your pack, and I'm like okay, I'm just.
00:20:21
Speaker 2: And you just here, thank you Destiny Rogers.
00:20:23
Speaker 1: Yeah, Rogers. And then everyone's clapping and I'm like, okay, well where's my seat. You're like.
00:20:32
Speaker 2: You want to leave.
00:20:32
Speaker 3: I don't want to leave and just sit for a while and be like literally, was that okay?
00:20:36
Speaker 2: Did that work out? Did I say everything?
00:20:39
Speaker 5: No?
00:20:40
Speaker 1: Seriously, I was like did I even open my mouth? Like, I don't remember anything. It's just gonna see. Adrenaline just takes over. It's a crazy feeling.
00:20:47
Speaker 7: I've seen somebody that was on stage I did that and they were like, can were start and they were like no, you're live right now.
00:20:51
Speaker 2: It was on TV.
00:20:52
Speaker 7: They were like they were like.
00:20:54
Speaker 1: She like, okay, I remember that. Who was that?
00:20:57
Speaker 4: It was that during the NBA game?
00:20:58
Speaker 2: Was it somebody? I forget who it was?
00:21:01
Speaker 1: She said, I fucked up?
00:21:03
Speaker 2: Like we're live?
00:21:04
Speaker 3: Like no' like that, like, no start? Remember when Fergie did it? That was kind of crazy. And recently the oh was her name.
00:21:11
Speaker 7: Called it Auntie, I don't know, from Motown?
00:21:14
Speaker 2: Oh yeah, yeah.
00:21:16
Speaker 7: She had like three It was heard two of the background going back and forth and she was trying to over.
00:21:24
Speaker 2: For Yeah, that's tough.
00:21:27
Speaker 1: Yeah, that is tough.
00:21:28
Speaker 4: That takes skill, for sure.
00:21:29
Speaker 1: It does. And I've always turned down the national anthem because of how nerve wracking it is until twenty twenty two, was actually my first time doing national anthem for a King's game back home, and I did it on electric guitar. Oh yeah, yeah, it's on YouTube, and.
00:21:43
Speaker 2: Jimmy Hendricks on it.
00:21:44
Speaker 1: I went crazy with Yeah.
00:21:46
Speaker 7: So if you could do it your own way, would you be more inclined to say, okay, yeah, I'll try, like moving forward.
00:21:52
Speaker 1: Yeah, one hundred yeah. I mean now I've already gotten like four under my belt, and the only thing that I will never you get used to is the adrenaline, the nerves that's just gonna always be there. Yeah, But it's the feeling after where you're just like, wow, I just did that. Look at all these people. They're applauding me. Now they know my name, they're walking away knowing my name, toname.
00:22:12
Speaker 5: It's great.
00:22:13
Speaker 2: That's the payoffs, great payoff. Right, You're right, it's worth it, right, worth the nerves and all of that worth it.
00:22:18
Speaker 1: I can't say no to that, to sing in front of five thousand people or whatever.
00:22:22
Speaker 2: Can't you gotta do it? Can't say no, yeah, gotta do it?
00:22:25
Speaker 1: Nerves?
00:22:25
Speaker 2: What have you said no too?
00:22:28
Speaker 1: What have I said no too? Man? I don't say no often. I can't lie. I mean, it's not like a performance, but it was like it was like a Savage fenie, like Rihanna's line, like lingerie line. I got offered like sixty thousand, like back in like twenty twenty one to do it, and I was just like, damn, the money is nice. That's gonna get me through. You know, it's gonna it's gonna be nice in there. But no, I just said no because it wasn't me at the end of the day, because I.
00:22:59
Speaker 3: Want you and Laningerie, yeah and you said no, Yeah, they told you to sing in No.
00:23:09
Speaker 1: No, It's just like like and I just had it, like just cline respectfully. I'm just like, this isn't me. Yeah, you know, because I was doing stuff with Jordan and Nike and h and M and I was I was. I was doing that stuff and that's more me, you know, sneakers and things like that, Tomboys, Swaggy HiPE Beast and then Savage fenty. Yeah, I get a proposal and I'm just like, oh, I would love to, but no, I'm like, man, if you drop a Tomboy line, I just wouldn't be comfortable. And I just yeah, I just wouldn't. I mean, that's like probably one of the biggest things that I've said no to. But as far as shows, was it.
00:23:44
Speaker 2: A moral thing as well? Saying no growing up from the church.
00:23:48
Speaker 1: No comfortable, right, like comfortable showing so much? Well, yeah, cause it's like I've always been that way because I've just whole life, I've always just worn baggy clothes and I never showed a lot of skin. I've been super modest and like I just was never like even wearing like a two piece bikini, like growing out of the stage when you're a young kid wearing a one piece and then I'm like, oh, I'm a teenager, now do I need to wear a bikini? Wait? You know what I mean. It's like ah, like like sometimes I still feel like that. I'm just like I don't think I want to show my waist.
00:24:22
Speaker 2: Yeah, Jackie, you are that way as well, right, A.
00:24:25
Speaker 4: Little bit a little bit like I would say, like there's moments where I have like I guess my grilly pop moments, you know, But then there's moments where I'm just kind of like, h like I feel more comfortable with like hello, layers on and big ass clothes.
00:24:36
Speaker 1: Like yes.
00:24:37
Speaker 2: Also, Jackie's mom's voice is always in here. My mom too, right.
00:24:42
Speaker 1: My mom too?
00:24:43
Speaker 2: Really?
00:24:44
Speaker 1: Yes, yes, my mom's the Mexican one.
00:24:47
Speaker 2: So oh fucking trauma. Yeah, trauma. Yeah, you're like, yeah.
00:24:54
Speaker 1: No, my mom probably would have hated that savage fanty stuff. Really, yeah, did you do it?
00:25:00
Speaker 2: Destiny?
00:25:01
Speaker 1: And it's even like she's just like a strong woman of God too, so she's also just like this doesn't look right. This doesn't look like, you know, for the kids, for the kid, because she thinks about She's like, think about the kids that watch your stuff. Think about your niece and your nephew that watches your stuff. Do you want them seeing that stuff? And I'm like, oh, why'd you have to throw them into it? Yeah? I was like my nephew, I know. I'm just like, damn, I'm not doing it.
00:25:26
Speaker 4: It's been two years since Still Your Girl, which I have told Nico and I just told Cruizer before this that I listened to that on repeat, and like I've told you before that the first time I listened to it, I like cried to it. What what have you learned yourself? Like within this two year time span of like Still your Girl and favorite Girl and be kind rewind.
00:25:46
Speaker 1: Oh man, I've learned a lot of stuff. I've just went through a lot of things during that time. I do believe that this like two year down period I really needed it because one of the cool things is I fell in love. So you just gained a lot of inspiration from that. Just being in love and just like having just a person that just brings you so much inspiration to your relationship. But also like, can you I put that into my music. That's a lot of good. Number Two, you know, my grandma passing away, who was like like an important woman in my life. That was obviously one of the hardest things I had to deal with, like probably ever. Yeah, but I do take inspiration from it, And like I got her portrait tattooed on me.
00:26:32
Speaker 2: If this like let's camera.
00:26:37
Speaker 1: Yeah, her name was gu and wait, where's the camera. I'm gonna show this face any chance I get. But but yeah, so she passed away. Yeah, she passed away in December, and like I'm starting to write like some music for her and kind of like do like a little like Mexican Shore, like a Madiaci R and B like the type vibe. Then her name was Gale, So I'm thinking about naming the song Guadalupe, you know, like whatever, but you know that's the inspiration that the things that you have to face in order to like gain it. And luckily I have music to help me like get through these tough times. So so you know, yeah, I'm just happy that I didn't. I've always kind of feared, like being so busy that I wouldn't be there to say goodbye to my grandma for her last time. You know, because when your grandparents get older, you're just like, man, it really could be any time, so you kind of have to just like make sure you answer every call, make sure you visit any chance your home. And that's what I was doing for those last times. And luckily my schedule, I wasn't busy that whole year, so I was able to be with her every like last moment of her life. So I don't regret that two year break. I'm just so that's what I literally was like, God, like you like you did what I asked. He cleared the path and it gets to be with my mom and my family and grief together, and shoot, favorite girl could be about her, you know.
00:28:07
Speaker 2: Nico and Jackie just went through that as well.
00:28:09
Speaker 4: Yeah, we went through at the end of last year too, and actually a week apart, so.
00:28:13
Speaker 3: Grandmother, apart from as they're planning a wedding, as they're planning their future, as they're doing a radio show daily, as they're preparing their their business for you know, for what they do on the side or their side quest or you know, there are other businesses.
00:28:28
Speaker 2: It's crazy all of that and they have to deal with you know, life and it.
00:28:32
Speaker 4: But it teaches you those It teaches you like what you can go through and what like you know, coming out on the other side and being that much stronger and learning throughout yourself and like bringing that into like your creativity, which is your music, and for us it's being just more present with our families and totally it gives you that check too and almost through.
00:28:53
Speaker 5: Like all the art that you do, it's like you have an opportunity to make sure that like she lives on in some way, shape or form, so for you, for your grandmother, like when it comes to like the music, she is living in that way.
00:29:05
Speaker 1: Oh absolutely, absolutely, Yeah. I feel like she's always like believed in like always believed in me. She always knew I was gonna be a star. Like she always would like tell everyone. Oh my granddaughter Destiny, she sings, she sings, and like she'd always have me bring my guitar to the family, to the family functions and always sing. And I'm like, Grandma, just sing and then you can eat, and then you can eat. That's my ticket to get in a plate.
00:29:37
Speaker 3: Right, your plate's ready for sing first?
00:29:40
Speaker 1: Got your problem after that?
00:29:47
Speaker 3: Favorite girl you know is crazy? Congratulations? More music on the way, more content on the way.
00:29:52
Speaker 1: Oh my god.
00:29:53
Speaker 2: Right, you're traveling, You're doing shows everywhere.
00:29:56
Speaker 1: Got my release party for the single in Hawaii, So it's gonna be like week or whatever on the twenty first.
00:30:04
Speaker 2: I love Hawaii.
00:30:05
Speaker 1: Yeah, I'm stoked. So hopefully more can open up from then on, you know, and I could just get back on that stage again and keep growing the fan base.
00:30:12
Speaker 2: Yeah, hell yeah, I keep going, man, Jack, you got something.
00:30:16
Speaker 4: I wanted to ask about meeting Lisa at the season three White Lotus premiere.
00:30:20
Speaker 1: Oh yeah, how was that? Like?
00:30:22
Speaker 4: Oh yeah, like that did happen? Well, but that wasn't the first time you've met her, wasn't.
00:30:28
Speaker 1: No, it wasn't. I I'm the first time I met Lisa was when she was on like a Black Pink Tour in twenty twenty two. I just met her backstage. Maybe it's like a five minute interaction, but not enough, right because I'm like, I'm trying to be your homegirl, you know, I'm trying to hang out. I'm trying to I'm trying to kick it, like you know. And so that was it, and but we ended up getting exchanging phone numbers and like kind of just like stayed in contact from then on. And I was in Japan in twenty twenty three shooting a music video also just like exploring the city, and she happened to be in Japan at the same time, and I told her. I was like, Yo, are you free anytime? And she was like yeah, like let's hang out. And so that was the like the night that kind of started our whole entire friendship. Like we went out to dinner, we went bar hopping, you know, like she showed me around. And then six months later we do it again in La We take her to a Drake show and we're kicking it, and then she invites me to Coachella. I go to Coachella with her, and so now we're just like and then I invite her I have a show in La so I invied show. Yeah, no, but it's all within a six month grace period because I only see her like maybe two times a year if I'm lucky. But every time we see each other, it's just like we just pick up where we left off, and like she stays the same person as well.
00:31:52
Speaker 4: And that's such a beautiful way to continue a friendship too. It's just like knowing that you'll pick up right where you left off.
00:31:59
Speaker 1: Yeah, and we do fun things too, like like we go out and she comes to my show, and we go to concerts together, we go to festivals together. She invited me to her White Lotus premiere, so like we do like the Red Carpet together, you know, like it's cool stuff if we get to do things that not a regular friendship can do. So lucky.
00:32:17
Speaker 5: What's the most regular thing you two have done? Like industry industry stuff aside.
00:32:25
Speaker 1: Okay, hold on, let me think the most regular Okay, the most regular thing was probably the first night, Like I was surprised. I was like, dang, you're taking us here. I was like, okay, So the first night we like after her so during the Japan show in Tokyo, there's a highlight of the show where each of the Black Pink Girls have their own solo moment. I texted her before the show, Hey, good luck, like you know, I'm in the crowd cheering you on, like hope to see you after type thing. So the show is going on and one of the girls has their solo and my phone goes off and it's Lisa. So she's like texting me backstage, like during during like doing something. She texted me and I'm like, what, Oh, you're on her song's finishing up, You're up next, and so I was like So, I was like okay. She was like, yeah, let's hit let's get food after and I was like done done. So then the show finished, she's thinking about food, right, So the show finishes, I go, someone takes me back there and then she's like, yeah, let's go. Let's go. So we hop in the car. There's a driver and security and everything, and we go to this like hole in the wall like like Japanese barbecue spot, and there's Hella heads in there and it's small. Every table is taken and then there's one empty table in the corner and we're sitting next to people. So they're like, oh, my god, like you know, they're recording and crying and like and she's just like, so where are you gonna get like you know, like that not even bothered, And I'm just like, damn, like she really has to block that ship out, like yeah, and like just like I'm with the friend and we're eating, you know, and so but security was sitting at a table next to us, and as like I was getting more comfortable, I was just like, yo, like questions. So when you texted me earlier, I was like, what were you doing? And she was like I was in wardrobe change and I'm like, oh, so she's just like when we text estiny real quick, well like people are like changing her. It was just so crazy so that it was regular. That was a regular thing. And then after that we just like went to a rooftop bar and like just like hung out again. People around. But it's just I'm just like, wow, so you can like go out in public like if you want it, yeah, you know, like and it was fun.
00:34:43
Speaker 2: She does it her way.
00:34:44
Speaker 1: I guess right, she does it her way. Yeah, that's her version of that. It was cool experiencing that.
00:34:49
Speaker 2: By the way, hole in the wall places are the best.
00:34:51
Speaker 1: Yeah she knows. Yeah, yeah, dude, it was sick.
00:34:54
Speaker 3: That's crazy. Yeah, a favorite girl. Congratulations Rogers, appreciate it's your time. Hell yeah, let's get It's a Cruise Show real ninety two.
