We’re joined by Uruguayan football legend Gus Poyet for an incredible in-depth conversation covering a career packed with unforgettable moments, major trophies and fascinating stories from across the football world.
From growing up in Uruguay’s win-at-all-costs football culture to lifting the UEFA Cup Winners’ Cup with Real Zaragoza, starring for Chelsea alongside Gianfranco Zola and Dennis Wise, and making the controversial move to Tottenham, Gus takes us behind the scenes of his remarkable playing career.
We then dive into management, discussing his time at Brighton, the pressure-cooker environment at Sunderland, the intensity of the Tyne-Wear derby, and his experiences managing the Greek national team.
Gus also shares his thoughts on how modern football has changed, why players have lost some of their freedom and fighting spirit, and what it takes to adapt to different footballing cultures.
And to finish, he picks his ultimate five-a-side team from players he shared a dressing room with!
An outstanding conversation full of brilliant stories, honest opinions and insight from someone who has experienced football at the highest level.
