Christina Jones: The vampire Lestat has finally arrived. ⁓ my god! Okay, it's happening! Everybody stay calm! What's the procedure, everyone? What's the procedure? Stay fing calm! This episode was pure delight. It did such a great job of encapsulating the spirit, but also the slightly manic state of Lestat after the release of Louis's portrayal of him as this carature of himself full of half truths. Outright lies in himself the ultimate villain, which certainly feels like a brutal betrayal, battering his psyche that has pushed him towards music and into the realm of recall as he seeks to define his own identity, combating Louis's narrative using his own artistic style, while also. Falling deeply into despair, trying to find love to quell his own loneliness. I do wonder how this episode was received. If you recently finished interview with the vampire and you transitioned to this episode, I could certainly understand someone feeling as if they got whiplash and they may not take to it. As readily as I did, because I was sitting giddy as fuck throughout the entire episode. Everything that they did was aesthetically pleasing and fun for me. This episode did things both visually but also through his monologue, and just everything around him screened exactly who he was and why he is such a bombastic type of character. But I can certainly understand it may take a while for others to acclimate from the the rather broody poetry of Louis's recollection, often foggy as well, versus Lestat, who has been equated as a hurricane, and hurricanes tend to destroy everything in their wake. So the Opening of this episode hinting at a grim fate for not only the world, but Lestat himself cements this reckoning of identity will be costly. Welcome back to Black or Couch Reviews. I'm your host, your eagerly excited host, Christina, finally back to watch AMC's first episode, premier episode, Detroit. Written by Rollin Jones and Hannah Moscovich, directed by Craig Ziss. Shout out to Craig. With the way a lot of media is rather regurgitated nowadays. When one swings for the fences, even if it stumbles, I can appreciate it. But when it actually is a home run, all the kudos to you. Because I don't feel as if risk is taking nearly as much as it should be in art, in the face of what is an assured reaction. Daniel breaks the fourth wall, giving us the recap into the premiere. In a private hanger, men with money to blow, a cardinal, and that medicine Talamasca guy, Raggling. Wait to bid on Lestat's lot in some form of will. Louis arrives cane in hand and missing a foot. Then we pan over, we saw him the first time. It's only the second time that emotions arose as Armand is there too. Now for their beats. He has himself an eye patch, so it seems as if these are battle scars. I do not hate Armand, but I do side-eye the hell out of his life choices. But he's not the only one whom gets the side eye. One should not take my remarks upon thee as though I do hate the character because I actually don't. I find him incredibly fascinating because going home, having sex, and building a life with someone you intended to kill is crazy talk. And one lot is Lestat's album, notes discarded recordings, all shit he wouldn't want anyone to find. So likely upon his request, those items are burn, causing much distress. Come on, man. Louis smiles. Armand is not surprised, and Raglan prepares to leave as well until he hears what the second lot contains. A music box, a turntable that the man himself carved. I didn't know he was a woodworker in his spare time. Some sick ass speakers, one with old ass wine and the other of his own blood, and a single vinyl pressing of the complete. Works of the vampire Lestat, that is his personal account of what happened during his 2025 tour that led to the consequential global catastrophes. It has been named The Failures. The bidding gets heated between Louis and Armand, who need to back the fuck up. Ragglan looks between the two men. Could Armand be working for the Talamasca now? There's something that said that Sam said a little bit later that got me a thinking. Armand, you better not. I know you're looking for your tribe, but those is not your people. However, he does be swinging from one tree branch to the other. Many have regrettably died or been traumatized by this. Contribution of Lestat's to what led to an extinction level event of the Y chromosome. But it all started in 2005 when a good nation was making itself great again. Lestat and the cloak take the stage along with his band. The members of the band are guitarist Larry, more talented. Alex, who must be related to the Jonas brothers in some capacity, a cousin. Salamander is the bassist, shockingly dumb, and T C is on drums and she don't like to be told what to do. They're performing Long Face. The documentary is already in full swing. Two vampires are there that we later learn are Russ and I think Tim. They greet his insolence of being a rock star with some critique. Your shit is terrible. Shut the fuck up. Thank you for the feedback. It's hilarious. Lestat is now being cosplayed by many people who believe Lestat, the performer, is in fact himself cosplaying as the character. But this is a way for him to generate his own. Crowd, get his own fans, since everybody seems to have a fan group who are obsessed with Louise Tale, Armand's vindication of whatever story that he's he's passing around nowadays. Having spent the last year outpouring his turmoil into music in response, what was put out there about himself, and now he's. Ready to offer his rebuttal, except validation seems to be more ⁓ Which he does on stage to his own song. He encourages the band to do better, thinking that they're already resting on their laurels. Larry but it put his ass on that tambourine. He is known only as the singer who pays them to be his backup artist. Christine Clare is their band shell and fixer for the wreckage Lestat leaves behind. Particularly when behind the wheel of a car, as we saw this episode. After choosing which fangirl gets into the dressing room, he locks out the documentary crew with a doppelganger Yarda emerging in his place to throw off the scent of his true nature. Did y'all see Salamander getting public blowjob? 'Cause she don't love herself for that. Redite or discard. He really gets Got incensed when he envisioned Louis portraying him as a man-aise villain with sociopathic tendencies, except his own clapback is a bit out of sync with the trending of vampires because people have moved on while he was shifting through his own emotions. I love the term algorithmic handmasters. Something he intends to change because people have swiped on what he's trying to bring to the table. But as he says, I am the vampire Lestat, I am a god. Gods are not swiped. Daniel greets Contessa. Not Daniel, though, to Lestat, Dan. Wonder if that's intentional to establish their own separate rapport from the intimate one Daniel had with Louie. Dr. Farid is back, but still not there, although allows himself to be a snack. Nice on the black and white perspective for the documentary. Daniel isn't getting a response from Louis, and Lestat isn't keen to talk about his ex, though he is back in the States. Lestat exchanges texts with someone called Toy. I believe if I'm recalling my French correctly, that is me and you. They respond his video cured their insomnia. Whoa, that's like fucking mean. Lestat is playing coy, but the other person congratulates him on being relevant to their life again. Ouch. I don't know who Joey Chestnut is, but Lestat would rather meet him than listen to Daniel list all his list all of the things that has happened in his immortal life. Dan asked why he has decided to randomly become a rock star, something he answered differently every night. While Louis obstructed, Lestat is harder to kind of get to open up, often deflecting from the truth, believing that Daniel has transformational trauma, which he probably do. He didn't ask to be turned. We even heard him say he would rather not. But now he's happy to be a vampire. He loves his life, even though he continuously takes a copious amount of drugs. He did win two Pitzers, but was that for the book or was that in his previous career? I'm pretty sure that was in his previous career because you ain't winning a Pulitzer over a story about vampires. He intends to take this documentary to Cannes so that he can slap Chris Rock like a true Hollywood celebrity. Lestat tries to devalue Daniel, but he replies, you requested me, and he's like, Absurd. How much he was convinced that he certainly would not have reached out to him, but I'm pretty sure it's probably exactly what happened. Because it's certainly not like Daniel was telepathically trying to get in touch with Lestat. Or maybe, maybe that'll be a twist. I doubt it though. Shout out to Farid who calls Daniel out. Cause while Lestat is fronting being a vampire, but actually a vampire, he, Daniel, is a vampire directing this shit passing as a human. When he asks if he was a stutter as a child, Lestat becomes defensive about the lies that Louie told. Not the one truth he revealed about him without permission to an absolute stranger that would make anyone feel uncomfortably vulnerable. He then reveals his manifesto on humanity in this dark and dreary industrial age. Children are addicted to vaping next to empty swimming pools because the economy is absolute shit. People can't be trusted with baby formula and shaving cream. While fashion and influence devoured knowledge in books and someone told everyone Lululemon was sexy. That just makes no fucking sense. I mean it's just bullshit. Facts are irrelevant, he continues. Feels are everything, and it was like he was speaking from my brain, and the value of life has never been more arbitrary. He got a shower in the middle of that bus, though, as Daniel continues to smoke his pipe as if this isn't the first tirade of this nature. It's his era now, despite the less than stellar ticket sales, as he legit paid for his own tour. I'm vain and shallow and can't stand an empty seat, said the orgeness. I am glad we are seeing Daniel operate as a journalist in his attempts to get at Lestat's inner truth, choosing to ask if the band was started Halloween night because he prefers to answer something that's easy. He has to pick him apart a lot more carefully, which is certainly a change. Flashback to Halloween night, Lestat learns about the book for the first time after doing a really cute FaceTime with Louis, where he's trying to make music again, but he's a little bit rusty. And Louis says, Look, it's fine. I'm not gonna lie to you, but I'm also not gonna say you ain't good. It just didn't. It didn't hit me a level above just that. Don't be a bitch. I love the way the balloons rose up. And he goes outside and instead of flipping the camera around, he shows Louie that there's no potholes. And there's a band playing across the street, which will become very relevant called Satan's Night Out. He goes to the bookstore, purchases the book, hears people shit talking him in the weirdest attempt of a French accent. Hop boss. I I can't even say it. Nestotmon it just it felt a cross between Jamaican and French. It was jarring, to say the least. But Lestat did mention that everyone pretty much fucks up French around here. So that was an indication that he is absolutely correct. Whatever's coming out of their mouth, it's not French. He takes the book home, starts reading Louis's perceived understanding of events. And it is something that has his highlighter out. And him losing his mind over what he is reading. And I really did feel bad for him. Imagine just getting out of that dusty ass robe, getting out of that crumbling house, wanting to grieve and reconcile your past and start anew with the love of your life, or at least one of the loves of your life. And he's been sitting on information for a month, not even giving you a heads up that a book. About you has been released. Louis, how you not know it was in the cloud? He legit told you the first time it was in the cloud. Other people had copies of that shit. And you thought for some reason, if you set the laptop on fire, Louis likes to repeat history. He did the same shit in 1960, whatever the fuck it was. Where he's like, let me make up a whole bunch of shit. To trash talk Lestat. And part two was like, let me make up a whole bunch of shit. You didn't even hear him deny spying on Louise. Like it was raining. I don't understand why this is so hard for you to. And I've heard people say, ⁓ it's because Armand messed with his memory. But he got that selective memory. I do also wonder if Daniel is working for the Talamasca now that he has gotten turn and he may have also. Written more of what the Talamasco wanted him because there was an exchange of a deal, right? Between the two. He threw the book down and said, I'm not a Harlequin. He then looks up Daniel Malloy. Then gets distracted that Larry keeps abusing the notes when trick or treaters show up dressed like Armand Louis and more heartbreakingly of all, his deceased daughter Claudia. Seeing this, he decides to take out his frustration on well, first he starts giving them kids not what they asked for. He's like, I have a peanut allergy. Allergies are delusional. It's because he was looking like Armand. And he told the one looking like Louis that your camera is the wrong period. And he said nothing to the little girl, which I think is very telling. So he barges into the neighbors. Chastising them, you're hurting her. Then apologizing, offering a replacement, and tells Salamander he might want to invest in some showers. Then he had the candy though. bitch. He did look deeply distressed because Armand was the most represented. I died laughing when he just pushed that kid out of the way. Claudia was her father's child. He asked for Daniel, so Daniel would, of course, correct the narrative, though Lestat considers the documentary liner notes. He, of course, has caused dispute within the vampire world. Now, there was a theory before the season started that Lestat may have gone on tour in a way to redirect the anger at Louis for his book onto him, but this was. This we find out in this episode long after Louis himself came out and threatened the other vampires, if I'm remembering correctly, which I may not. No, no, it was when the book came out. No, it wasn't when the book came out. Yeah, because it was on his dressing table and he was like, Did you read it? So yeah, they were already threatening him then. And so the the theory was that he had gone on tour to to protect Louie, but no, he's going on tour for some vindication and to be the one to tell his story now that his story is out there. There is dispute in the vampire world about what he is doing. The great laws forbid this adventure, however, some find resonance with what he is singing about. And there are songs that even the fang we later learned do like. Others just want him dead. He begs Toy to come see him as he misses them and is struggling, though he deletes it and only states it's been too long once he's alone. Dee is sleep on the floor. Surely there's a couch somewhere. The second night in Detroit, he warns, do not play two nights in Detroit. You couldn't get me one night in Detroit. At the concert, we are introduced to Baby Jinx who just did entirely too many drugs. The lyrics are interesting in a word. Did he say ride his stepbrother eating black licorice in bed? I don't know if that was intended to mean something else, but my mind certainly, certainly gave it a double meaning. Lestat and Larry are clashing once again. He wanted him to pick up the tambourine. Larry said, I'm not about that tambourine life. I'm filling my guitar solo. So for the second night. They are both fighting for this particular part in the song. Instead of killing the man right then and there, the music ends up wrapping itself around Lestot as memories come crashing back with his muses appearing in his mind. Louis, Gabriella, Magnus, and Nikki. He realizes that he was the one holding them back and fully embraces not the persona but the person. Bona fide vampire leading to a synergy that leads to baby Jinx being half drained on stage. He bursts into the dressing room and asks, which one of you have OD'd before? Dan was just feasting on D, and both of them had been down this road. It was later confirmed that she does know that Lestat is a vampire. Apparently, what Baby Jinx took was called a candy plate. This is how I am a naive individual because they're like, ⁓ you don't overdose with that. I'm like, are you fucking kidding me? How much does it take? Because that seems like that would put me in an early grave immediately. Lestade knew he should quit, should have quit that night, but the muses were just beginning. What exactly was Daniel doing? Was he giving her Coke? I'm learning. So much more about drugs. The last time I learned this much about drugs was Euphoria season one. And that was all I could take. It's why I have not watched Breaking Bad. Baby Jinx floats above him, telling him that he's lost. Not that he lost it on, not that he just lost it on stage. And that these songs are going to kill him, though he doesn't believe he can die. She says, We all die. He's gonna die. D's gonna die. The manager's gonna die. And Daniel, he's gonna die really bad. I wouldn't have taken it seriously that threat to Daniel's life, except she knows all about his pattern behavior, kill some wolves, get the gift, continuously fall in love, and facing 265 years of consistent heartache. It's not gonna take millions. It's gonna take billions of fans to top off Lestat's well of love that needs to be immediately filled. He is warned that they are coming. When he asks who, she's like, you'll find out. I think we skipped a couple of albums or not, but he starts on side B over a toilet in a hotel room with a broken orbital bone and fresh bruises. Because the next night or the following events that happened that night were crazy. I straight lost it when I saw Sam. I'm so glad he's back. As soon as he said a vampire entertaining the guests, I was like, that's Sam. He was very much beloved at this boutique hotel. Lestat shows up crashing into the red carpet before showing the pops his pussy cat. I'm a boss-ass bitch, bitch, bitch. Bitch, bitch. This episode had a lot of standout moments, but for some reason this series of events was my favorite. Baby is in the documentary and they are feeling really good. I'm on that good cushion alcohol. I got some down bitches I can call. What's that? I don't know what I would do without y'all. Her from the recent blood transfusion, courtesy of Dr. Farid, like to see that the man is also useful as well as being a snack. She starts gushing like the ultimate groupie. Lestat is feeling good because all of the drugs in her blood are now coursing through him. Larry and Lestoc got some type of hot friction going on. Cause he just straight up kissed him as if this is not the first time. But Lassada person that fucks everybody around him. He embraces the rock and roll of it all as trauma and a nervous breakdown coincide with one of the most traumatic relationships that have manifested, arriving back into his life. In this communication between Moy and Toy, and as he later states, I saw my first soul, and that person saw my soul as well. It's a lot of first, as Louis was harping on in his own narrative. Sensing Lestat's defenses weakening, Daniel telepathically asks if he once again was a stutterer as a child, before we get a brief look at Kid Lestat. Who was held down on that same table in one of those quick flashes? I did not slow them down to see everything I could see. I'm along for this ride. I don't need to know everything up front. But I did catch that and it looked like he was being assaulted by his brothers. Lestat is given the nickname The Scalpel by Baby. Louis never made mention of Lestat's scars or informed Dan on how vampire physiology works. Liquid goes in and thus it reasons that liquid would come out. They don't prefer these public urinals. And when they have no other choice but to use one, they wash away the evidence with Chardonnay. His initials were never inscribed on. the coat pocket per Louis being all sentimentally romantic or literally having a moment of fanfic. He ain't the only one, cause Armand certainly had his whole his own fifteen minutes of the spotlight in which he himself was no doubt writing fanfic. Lista pretty much points this as the insane ramblings of Louis, though he edits it out because he can't talk shit about his Louis the way Louis can defame him. Tim, I thought it was Jim. Tim and Russ join him. They ask him to visit their coven, but Lestat politely declines by saying he'll be elsewhere. Does admire Russ's pelvic floor aim. Russ still Concedes that Longface sucks, but the other two songs he put out they like very much. The mystery person demands that he come to them, not that she would come to him. He joins Jinx and D bouncing away despite his blind spot for blood poisoning. He aims to fulfill the joy about sexual hedonism. That he sings about Wanting Christine upstairs, but she's seven floors away and he wants to fuck now, so he takes D and Baby off the dance floor to get into the elevator, taking no note of the locals as a threat because he has the Queen's blood in his veins. In the elevator, he has sex with D, he has sex with Baby, he has sex with the Bell Man and all 26 of his imaginary friends. He has an immortal life that carries with it an immortal erection and happens to be the fourth best thing you could do to avoid the past as we get glimpses of him and Nikki getting it on. Looking back, Longface does indeed suck. He still got residuals coming in though. For some reason, kill her was written on the back of baby's neck. Was she a honey trap? She's getting married next week, and I am mourning for her groom. She belongs to the streets. The Tooth team emerged to ambush. So the mortal's life was in peril here, D's life, because Law 4 states that anyone who reveals themselves to the mortal, the mortal should not live. He tells her to look at the wall. She affirms that she is in charge of her work-life balance and she is building a career for herself. And if this is what she has to do, then this is what she has to do. But coming back to baby, did they put kill her on her because she was utilized to pretty much get Lestat in a very weakened state, as he himself admits, which is why they were almost able to successfully kill him. Unfortunately, despite the Queen's blood, he drained every battery and invigoration. Between the stage and here making him lackluster in the fight, he wonders why they are so intent on the laws when the book came out two years ago and Louis was not getting this smoke. And all he was doing was singing his songs, fucking his food, and revisiting old wounds without even the band knowing the truth. Defending myself from the vibrant life choices I had made. Russ, they were committed to that. cartoonish amount of villainry when they said the something reborn. As even at the threshold of death, Lestat laughs in their face. Are you fucking serious? Tattooed on, which why would you even tattoo that on your like that's gonna be the rest of your life? I mean I guess I suppose you can just get it removed. But they tattoo Armando the truth. And Lestat's like, have you met him? And what the fuck does that even mean? And I wondered Once again, because it's Armand, did he start another coven or tell his own version of the truth to maybe the Talamasca? Or maybe he's just being blackmailed. Who knows? He is saved by Dan and Sam. If they hadn't intervened, Lestat would have been dead, he he believes, and maybe not half the world would also not be dead. What did he do? This moment here is called the sliding door of Dan. The blood spatter on the camera, that was noise. The fight continues into the room where many regular people in the band were just having a good old time until they see Lestat and Tim battling it out. And I'm pretty sure that Lestat drained him. And this reveal got his IMF account freeze because he has the blood of a patricidal queen in his veins. The Jonas brother asked, Are you like you're for real? With Larry unable to say much, and Salamander gleeful. And Christine just over there, like, ⁓ I don't know how I'm supposed to spend this shit. Cause about fourteen to twenty five people just saw what happened. And when you were signing in Blood Before and you said, ⁓ it's 'cause you're a vampire, you was playing me for a fool with my face. Smiling, Daniel goes in for the kill. Were you a stutterer as a child? Sam admits the Talamasca dragged him into what happened at the Theatre Vampel. So they can use coercion on the vampire. And I need to know more about this. This is why gods prefer hiding in the clouds. There's nothing there but water waiting to fall. Beautiful line. Then we are back at the hotel, motel, holiday in. I did look at the messages on the phone with Lestat increasingly becoming desperate and upset, begging, begging who we later find out is his mother to come see him, that he needs her, but he is being ignored until finally she responds, saying, I'm here in walks, Gabriela. Fledgling lover mother. He tells her that he's got himself into something he might not be able to get out of, but he is very happy to see her. She heals his facial scar before kissing him. Brother U I think she was Gabrielle in the book. I admire Gabriella as a vampire, but she wins over Louis's mom for the title of The W. See, the movies did not go into this very psychological trauma of Lestat because it is a lot to digest, and it certainly lays for a foundation. But I love that the show had the balls in the years of the Targaryens where people are actually shipping nephew and niece. Stop it. Get some help. I wanted very much to record this during the week. And I was prepared to until my daughter picked up two shifts. I started training my boss. Yeah, you heard that right. Training my boss. And I also became the soundboard for another team. This week, and thus my battery drained further and further as the week continued to go on. And thus, it is only today that I have the wherewithal to do a proper recap and review. I most likely will continue to keep it on the weekend. It simplifies things for me. But if you want to send feedback, blackercouch at gmail.com. My social media will be below. Like, share, subscribe. Until the next time, peace, hair grease, and blacker magic.
