Are You Actually Media Ready?

What actually makes someone media ready?

It isn't simply having a great story, impressive credentials or years of experience.

In this live bonus episode, Adrienne Barker shares the perspective most people trying to get booked on podcasts rarely hear: what happens on the other side of the pitch.

The recording begins with the conclusion of Ramon Ray's live show before Ramon hands the microphone to Adrienne for her live segment.

Adrienne opens with a timely Stop.Verify.Protect scam alert covering Facebook advertising and Marketplace scams before turning to one of her favorite subjects: visibility and media readiness.

As a podcast producer who both sends and receives guest pitches, Adrienne explains why so many pitches fail before a producer ever discovers how good the potential guest may actually be.

Vague introductions. Missing bios. No LinkedIn profile. No website. Generic claims such as “thought leader” or “visionary entrepreneur.” Fifteen prewritten interview questions. Long emails. Photos that cannot actually be used by the media.

Adrienne has seen them all.

Her message is simple: having a great story and making that story easy for the media to understand are two very different things.

She explains what podcast producers and media professionals actually need, why personalization means much more than putting someone's first name in an email, and why she would rather receive two or three strong conversation directions than a completely scripted interview.

Adrienne also discusses the importance of a strong LinkedIn presence, professional high-resolution photography, and creating media assets that can be used across podcasts, publications, websites, newsletters, and social media.

The episode closes with a look at PressLaunch.vip and the growing Media Contributors Network, designed to connect people who can contribute to media through interviews, reporting, writing, sources, and event coverage.

If you're trying to become more visible, get booked on podcasts, or position yourself as a credible media resource, this bonus episode gives you a behind-the-scenes look from the producer's side of the inbox.

• A great story is not enough. A producer needs to quickly understand who you are, why you matter, and why the audience should care.

• Stop sending generic pitches. “Thought leader,” “visionary” and “transformational” mean very little without evidence.

• Give producers the basics immediately. Name, short bio, LinkedIn, website, accomplishments and why the guest fits that particular show.

• Do not script the entire interview. Two or three strong conversation directions are usually more valuable than fifteen predetermined questions.

• Personalization is about relevance. Using someone's name is not personalization. Understanding the show and explaining why the guest belongs there is.

• LinkedIn matters. Producers researching business guests are likely to look there first.

• Your photograph is a media asset. Have professional, high-resolution vertical and horizontal images ready for podcasts, publications, websites and social media.

• Think contribution, not just publicity. Media opportunities can include being interviewed, quoted, writing articles, covering events and becoming a trusted source.

“Having a great story and being easy for the media to cover are two completely different things.”
