00:00:17.519 --> 00:00:19.820
right now with Chris Reynolds. He's with a band called
6
00:00:19.920 --> 00:00:22.620
Whiskey Rich. They're going to be performing at the South
7
00:00:22.640 --> 00:00:25.929
Dakota Military Heritage Alliance for a really fun event on
8
00:00:25.989 --> 00:00:28.589
October 30th. First, how long have you guys been together?
9
00:00:29.000 --> 00:00:33.990
We formed in 2014, uh, that it originally was just
10
00:00:34.049 --> 00:00:38.490
a duo and, uh, now it's a five piece country
11
00:00:38.530 --> 00:00:41.670
band here. So we've been at it pretty hard for
12
00:00:41.710 --> 00:00:43.189
the better part of 12 years now.
13
00:00:43.490 --> 00:00:46.009
Well, you're doing something right. I see whiskey rich playing
14
00:00:46.210 --> 00:00:48.490
all over the place. How far and why do you
15
00:00:48.530 --> 00:00:50.450
guys travel to perform music?
16
00:00:50.659 --> 00:00:52.820
Yeah, we're pretty, uh, we're based out of Sioux Falls.
17
00:00:52.859 --> 00:00:56.500
So I live here. We're pretty regional. Um, but we
18
00:00:56.539 --> 00:01:02.009
will do anywhere in South Dakota and then Northwest Iowa, um, that,
19
00:01:02.130 --> 00:01:05.989
you know, that North, uh, Eastern part of Nebraska and
20
00:01:06.010 --> 00:01:10.489
then Southwest Minnesota. So kind of this four state hub
21
00:01:10.549 --> 00:01:12.129
here is our main territory.
22
00:01:12.590 --> 00:01:14.260
Well, and you had mentioned that it started as a
23
00:01:14.299 --> 00:01:16.879
duo and the band has grown while also the fan
24
00:01:16.920 --> 00:01:19.629
base has grown. You guys have a ton of fans. Uh,
25
00:01:19.680 --> 00:01:22.299
people absolutely love the band whiskey rich.
26
00:01:22.579 --> 00:01:26.290
Yes, it is grown. Uh, over the years. Yeah, we
27
00:01:26.329 --> 00:01:29.099
have a lot of loyal followers. Even when I play
28
00:01:29.140 --> 00:01:33.359
the solo shows on these bar patios, I see the
29
00:01:33.420 --> 00:01:37.810
same 20, 30 people. Every single show, they are loyal
30
00:01:37.890 --> 00:01:39.829
and they show up. And it's really nice to have
31
00:01:40.189 --> 00:01:44.069
great support right here in Sioux Falls. And even we're
32
00:01:44.109 --> 00:01:47.640
starting to see Good pockets in Iowa and Minnesota and
33
00:01:47.719 --> 00:01:50.549
all over, people that are enjoying country music.
34
00:01:50.920 --> 00:01:53.489
October 30th would be an awesome time to get out
35
00:01:53.609 --> 00:01:56.010
and see Whiskey Rich as they perform at the South
36
00:01:56.030 --> 00:02:00.129
Dakota Military Heritage Alliance. There's also a costume contest that night,
37
00:02:00.430 --> 00:02:03.189
and there's some trivia and other fun things happening before
38
00:02:03.230 --> 00:02:06.299
the band gets started. Chris, have you guys performed at
39
00:02:06.329 --> 00:02:07.659
the Alliance in the past?
40
00:02:08.139 --> 00:02:11.780
Yes, we have opened a few shows for some bigger
41
00:02:12.000 --> 00:02:16.719
acts there. Um, I, I think it was 2022. We
42
00:02:16.800 --> 00:02:20.360
opened up for Tracy bird there, which was unbelievable. I
43
00:02:21.159 --> 00:02:24.759
love Tracy bird, obviously. And then just this last March
44
00:02:24.900 --> 00:02:30.259
of 2026, we opened up for Blackhawk, which was also amazing.
45
00:02:30.280 --> 00:02:33.340
I just can't believe how good those guys are at
46
00:02:33.379 --> 00:02:36.710
their age. Just killing it. They sounded phenomenal.
47
00:02:37.199 --> 00:02:39.430
Speaking of the band Blackhawk, I had a chance to
48
00:02:39.490 --> 00:02:42.050
visit with them back in the 1990s. I worked in
49
00:02:42.090 --> 00:02:44.509
country radio at the time. And one of the things
50
00:02:44.530 --> 00:02:47.150
that I thought was pretty cool is the name Blackhawk
51
00:02:47.210 --> 00:02:49.830
was not the original name of that band. Do you
52
00:02:49.870 --> 00:02:50.689
know their original name?
53
00:02:50.969 --> 00:02:51.849
I have no idea.
54
00:02:52.189 --> 00:02:54.000
And I kind of wonder if they would have been
55
00:02:54.039 --> 00:02:57.300
as big as Mustwang. That was the original name.
56
00:02:59.360 --> 00:03:01.000
That can't be as good as Blackhawk.
57
00:03:01.389 --> 00:03:03.349
The story was told to me by Henry, I believe
58
00:03:03.389 --> 00:03:05.610
is his name, the lead singer maybe of Blackhawk. And
59
00:03:05.870 --> 00:03:07.930
he said they weren't quite sold on Mustang and they
60
00:03:07.949 --> 00:03:09.949
were sitting in traffic on their way to sign the
61
00:03:10.009 --> 00:03:12.780
record deal. And there was a truck that said Blackhawk
62
00:03:12.810 --> 00:03:14.680
Printing that pulled up next to him. So if they
63
00:03:14.689 --> 00:03:17.000
hadn't been in traffic, maybe they'd have been Mustang. But
64
00:03:17.020 --> 00:03:20.139
I think Blackhawk worked out pretty darn good for the band.
65
00:03:20.560 --> 00:03:23.039
Yes, it worked out pretty well for them. I don't
66
00:03:23.080 --> 00:03:24.580
think they have any regrets, I'm sure.
67
00:03:24.860 --> 00:03:27.439
So now I get to ask about your name, Whiskey Rich.
68
00:03:27.479 --> 00:03:28.379
Where did that come from?
69
00:03:28.780 --> 00:03:32.460
Yeah, good question. Um... You know, I think it was,
70
00:03:33.479 --> 00:03:35.659
you know, I said this started as a duo. It
71
00:03:35.719 --> 00:03:38.780
was the other gentleman that started this band with me
72
00:03:38.840 --> 00:03:41.400
that came up with that name. And I'm not really,
73
00:03:41.419 --> 00:03:44.900
I don't think he ever really had a real rhyme
74
00:03:44.939 --> 00:03:49.240
or reason as to how he came up with that.
75
00:03:49.319 --> 00:03:51.460
It just popped in his head and we were like,
76
00:03:51.599 --> 00:03:53.360
oh yeah, that sounds pretty good. And we just stuck
77
00:03:53.400 --> 00:03:53.659
with it.
78
00:03:54.379 --> 00:03:56.259
It is pretty good. I like it a lot. Again,
79
00:03:56.300 --> 00:03:58.469
Whiskey Rich is the band that is going to be
80
00:03:58.500 --> 00:04:02.289
performing at the South Dakota Military Heritage Alliance on October 30th.
81
00:04:02.689 --> 00:04:05.449
It is a costume contest that night as well. You
82
00:04:05.469 --> 00:04:06.930
guys are going to get to see some people dressed
83
00:04:07.189 --> 00:04:10.069
in really fun outfits. There's also, leading up to the
84
00:04:10.129 --> 00:04:12.650
costume contest and leading up to the band, going to
85
00:04:12.669 --> 00:04:17.720
have some Halloween music playing and some spooky trivia, Halloween trivia.
86
00:04:17.800 --> 00:04:20.019
I'm actually working on getting that stuff all ready to
87
00:04:20.060 --> 00:04:22.139
go right now. It's going to be a darn good night. Again,
88
00:04:22.199 --> 00:04:26.240
it's Friday, October the 30th, and I'm super excited for
89
00:04:26.259 --> 00:04:28.100
that costume contest. That's going to be awesome.
90
00:04:28.319 --> 00:04:30.759
Yes, I'll be. The band is going to be dressed up.
91
00:04:30.839 --> 00:04:35.439
We'll have costumes. Also, with your $ 25 ticket, there is
92
00:04:35.519 --> 00:04:39.790
an appetizer food spread, and you also get a ticket
93
00:04:39.850 --> 00:04:43.269
for one of the signature Halloween cocktails. They're making a
94
00:04:43.269 --> 00:04:48.910
menu of spooky drinks they're calling them. I think there
95
00:04:48.949 --> 00:04:51.230
could be some dry ice coming out of them. So
96
00:04:51.370 --> 00:04:53.949
a lot of fun cocktails that they'll have. So you
97
00:04:53.970 --> 00:04:56.430
get a cocktail and a food spread and some country
98
00:04:56.470 --> 00:05:01.089
music and a costume contest. And all the while you'll
99
00:05:01.129 --> 00:05:04.189
be supporting all of the services that they do with
100
00:05:04.269 --> 00:05:08.540
veterans and current military. If you like to party and
101
00:05:08.560 --> 00:05:11.819
you like to support our military, come on out to
102
00:05:11.839 --> 00:05:13.019
the Alliance October 30th.
103
00:05:13.910 --> 00:05:15.170
I think it's going to be a whole lot of fun.
104
00:05:15.209 --> 00:05:18.379
And you had mentioned the cocktails. They also have mocktail
105
00:05:18.439 --> 00:05:20.600
versions of that. So if you're going, hey, I want
106
00:05:20.620 --> 00:05:22.819
to go, but I don't want to drink, that's cool.
107
00:05:22.879 --> 00:05:25.160
You can have fun without drinking too. And I love
108
00:05:25.180 --> 00:05:27.639
the fact that they thought of that with the mocktail version.
109
00:05:27.680 --> 00:05:29.399
So there's no booze in that style of drink.
110
00:05:29.680 --> 00:05:33.389
Yes, totally. Yep. If you don't want to wear a costume,
111
00:05:33.430 --> 00:05:35.689
you don't have to. If you don't want to drink,
112
00:05:35.730 --> 00:05:38.769
you don't have to. Come on out and support. This
113
00:05:39.110 --> 00:05:42.350
is really important work that the Alliance does in our community.
114
00:05:42.430 --> 00:05:46.170
So- Your $ 25 ticket is going right back into all
115
00:05:46.209 --> 00:05:50.389
of the support services that they provide our veterans and
116
00:05:50.490 --> 00:05:51.310
current military.
117
00:05:51.759 --> 00:05:54.060
Absolutely. And Chris, thanks for taking the time to chat.
118
00:05:54.120 --> 00:05:54.939
Thanks for having me.
119
00:05:55.500 --> 00:05:57.769
Again, Chris is with the band Whiskey Rich. They are
120
00:05:57.810 --> 00:06:01.170
performing on Friday, October 30th at the South Dakota Military
121
00:06:01.209 --> 00:06:05.649
Heritage Alliance. Costume contest, trivia, chance to win, all kinds
122
00:06:05.689 --> 00:06:07.959
of fun stuff. Get out, have a blast with us.

of 2026, we opened up for Blackhawk, which was also amazing.
45
00:02:30.280 --> 00:02:33.340
I just can't believe how good those guys are at
46
00:02:33.379 --> 00:02:36.710
their age. Just killing it. They sounded phenomenal.
47
00:02:37.199 --> 00:02:39.430
Speaking of the band Blackhawk, I had a chance to
48
00:02:39.490 --> 00:02:42.050
visit with them back in the 1990s. I worked in
49
00:02:42.090 --> 00:02:44.509
country radio at the time. And one of the things
50
00:02:44.530 --> 00:02:47.150
that I thought was pretty cool is the name Blackhawk
51
00:02:47.210 --> 00:02:49.830
was not the original name of that band. Do you
52
00:02:49.870 --> 00:02:50.689
know their original name?
53
00:02:50.969 --> 00:02:51.849
I have no idea.
54
00:02:52.189 --> 00:02:54.000
And I kind of wonder if they would have been
55
00:02:54.039 --> 00:02:57.300
as big as Mustwang. That was the original name.
56
00:02:59.360 --> 00:03:01.000
That can't be as good as Blackhawk.
57
00:03:01.389 --> 00:03:03.349
The story was told to me by Henry, I believe
58
00:03:03.389 --> 00:03:05.610
is his name, the lead singer maybe of Blackhawk. And
59
00:03:05.870 --> 00:03:07.930
he said they weren't quite sold on Mustang and they
60
00:03:07.949 --> 00:03:09.949
were sitting in traffic on their way to sign the
61
00:03:10.009 --> 00:03:12.780
record deal. And there was a truck that said Blackhawk
62
00:03:12.810 --> 00:03:14.680
Printing that pulled up next to him. So if they
63
00:03:14.689 --> 00:03:17.000
hadn't been in traffic, maybe they'd have been Mustang. But
64
00:03:17.020 --> 00:03:20.139
I think Blackhawk worked out pretty darn good for the band.
65
00:03:20.560 --> 00:03:23.039
Yes, it worked out pretty well for them. I don't
66
00:03:23.080 --> 00:03:24.580
think they have any regrets, I'm sure.
67
00:03:24.860 --> 00:03:27.439
So now I get to ask about your name, Whiskey Rich.
68
00:03:27.479 --> 00:03:28.379
Where did that come from?
69
00:03:28.780 --> 00:03:32.460
Yeah, good question. Um... You know, I think it was,
70
00:03:33.479 --> 00:03:35.659
you know, I said this started as a duo. It
71
00:03:35.719 --> 00:03:38.780
was the other gentleman that started this band with me
72
00:03:38.840 --> 00:03:41.400
that came up with that name. And I'm not really,
73
00:03:41.419 --> 00:03:44.900
I don't think he ever really had a real rhyme
74
00:03:44.939 --> 00:03:49.240
or reason as to how he came up with that.
75
00:03:49.319 --> 00:03:51.460
It just popped in his head and we were like,
76
00:03:51.599 --> 00:03:53.360
oh yeah, that sounds pretty good. And we just stuck
77
00:03:53.400 --> 00:03:53.659
with it.
78
00:03:54.379 --> 00:03:56.259
It is pretty good. I like it a lot. Again,
79
00:03:56.300 --> 00:03:58.469
Whiskey Rich is the band that is going to be
80
00:03:58.500 --> 00:04:02.289
performing at the South Dakota Military Heritage Alliance on October 30th.
81
00:04:02.689 --> 00:04:05.449
It is a costume contest that night as well. You
82
00:04:05.469 --> 00:04:06.930
guys are going to get to see some people dressed
83
00:04:07.189 --> 00:04:10.069
in really fun outfits. There's also, leading up to the
84
00:04:10.129 --> 00:04:12.650
costume contest and leading up to the band, going to
85
00:04:12.669 --> 00:04:17.720
have some Halloween music playing and some spooky trivia, Halloween trivia.
86
00:04:17.800 --> 00:04:20.019
I'm actually working on getting that stuff all ready to
87
00:04:20.060 --> 00:04:22.139
go right now. It's going to be a darn good night. Again,
88
00:04:22.199 --> 00:04:26.240
it's Friday, October the 30th, and I'm super excited for
89
00:04:26.259 --> 00:04:28.100
that costume contest. That's going to be awesome.
90
00:04:28.319 --> 00:04:30.759
Yes, I'll be. The band is going to be dressed up.
91
00:04:30.839 --> 00:04:35.439
We'll have costumes. Also, with your $ 25 ticket, there is
92
00:04:35.519 --> 00:04:39.790
an appetizer food spread, and you also get a ticket
93
00:04:39.850 --> 00:04:43.269
for one of the signature Halloween cocktails. They're making a
94
00:04:43.269 --> 00:04:48.910
menu of spooky drinks they're calling them. I think there
95
00:04:48.949 --> 00:04:51.230
could be some dry ice coming out of them. So
96
00:04:51.370 --> 00:04:53.949
a lot of fun cocktails that they'll have. So you
97
00:04:53.970 --> 00:04:56.430
get a cocktail and a food spread and some country
98
00:04:56.470 --> 00:05:01.089
music and a costume contest. And all the while you'll
99
00:05:01.129 --> 00:05:04.189
be supporting all of the services that they do with
100
00:05:04.269 --> 00:05:08.540
veterans and current military. If you like to party and
101
00:05:08.560 --> 00:05:11.819
you like to support our military, come on out to
102
00:05:11.839 --> 00:05:13.019
the Alliance October 30th.
103
00:05:13.910 --> 00:05:15.170
I think it's going to be a whole lot of fun.
104
00:05:15.209 --> 00:05:18.379
And you had mentioned the cocktails. They also have mocktail
105
00:05:18.439 --> 00:05:20.600
versions of that. So if you're going, hey, I want
106
00:05:20.620 --> 00:05:22.819
to go, but I don't want to drink, that's cool.
107
00:05:22.879 --> 00:05:25.160
You can have fun without drinking too. And I love
108
00:05:25.180 --> 00:05:27.639
the fact that they thought of that with the mocktail version.
109
00:05:27.680 --> 00:05:29.399
So there's no booze in that style of drink.
110
00:05:29.680 --> 00:05:33.389
Yes, totally. Yep. If you don't want to wear a costume,
111
00:05:33.430 --> 00:05:35.689
you don't have to. If you don't want to drink,
112
00:05:35.730 --> 00:05:38.769
you don't have to. Come on out and support. This
113
00:05:39.110 --> 00:05:42.350
is really important work that the Alliance does in our community.
114
00:05:42.430 --> 00:05:46.170
So- Your $ 25 ticket is going right back into all
115
00:05:46.209 --> 00:05:50.389
of the support services that they provide our veterans and
116
00:05:50.490 --> 00:05:51.310
current military.
117
00:05:51.759 --> 00:05:54.060
Absolutely. And Chris, thanks for taking the time to chat.
118
00:05:54.120 --> 00:05:54.939
Thanks for having me.
119
00:05:55.500 --> 00:05:57.769
Again, Chris is with the band Whiskey Rich. They are
120
00:05:57.810 --> 00:06:01.170
performing on Friday, October 30th at the South Dakota Military
121
00:06:01.209 --> 00:06:05.649
Heritage Alliance. Costume contest, trivia, chance to win, all kinds
122
00:06:05.689 --> 00:06:07.959
of fun stuff. Get out, have a blast with us.
