00:00:39.130 --> 00:00:39.500
I'm Kenzie.
00:00:40.289 --> 00:00:40.570
I'm Kena.
00:00:41.100 --> 00:00:46.229
And today we're covering chapters 1 through 15 of Iron Flame by Rebecca Yaros.
00:00:46.984 --> 00:00:49.835
First and foremost, please listen carefully to our content warning.
00:00:49.844 --> 00:01:02.704
These are adult books we are covering and neither of us have a filter, so this podcast is definitely rated R and for those 18 Regarding spoilers, if you have not finished the entire Fourth Wing and Iron Flame books, please come back after you do so to listen to the episodes.
00:01:03.064 --> 00:01:13.344
While we are discussing a certain stretch of chapters, we will be doing so with the perspective of what happens in both books for better understanding, to help us dive deeper into the theories, and really appreciate the foreshadowing of Roberta Yaros.
00:01:13.745 --> 00:01:17.525
So going forward, all episodes on our show will contain spoilers for the whole series in question.
00:01:20.030 --> 00:01:26.379
Come back next Thursday, and next Thursday, and next Thursday, and next Thursday, and every Thursday after that for a brand new episode.
00:01:26.450 --> 00:01:30.870
As a taller podcast, we'd love to hear your feedback to better ourselves and expand our book loving community.
00:01:31.150 --> 00:01:36.769
Please feel free to give us reviews, reach out to us on social media, and follow us on TikTok, Instagram, and watch us on YouTube at Shadow and Starlight Pod.
00:01:36.810 --> 00:01:41.159
So I think I fucked up our Onyx Storm countdown for some reason.
00:01:41.159 --> 00:01:50.409
I was like a few days off, but anyways, I've double checked and when this episode releases, we'll be 33 days away from Onyx Storm and I promise you that's right.
00:01:51.609 --> 00:01:57.140
So if I butchered it in the past, I'm sorry, but the most important thing is we're almost 30 days away.
00:01:57.140 --> 00:01:59.230
One month people, it's happening.
00:02:00.640 --> 00:02:07.540
Another exciting announcement is we have officially confirmed our interview with Sarah A Parker, author of When the Moon Hatched it's confirmed for March.
00:02:07.540 --> 00:02:12.620
So we'll let you know when we have an episode release date, but oh my gosh, we're so excited.
00:02:12.620 --> 00:02:18.460
We are planning on covering the second book in the moonfall series when it comes out in 2025 in the fall, I think.
00:02:18.830 --> 00:02:21.990
I know she will be done writing book two by the time we interview her.
00:02:22.110 --> 00:02:25.370
So maybe she'll have something exclusive to share with us.
00:02:25.379 --> 00:02:27.120
read when the moon has to be haven't yet.
00:02:27.120 --> 00:02:30.610
And then keep an eye out for our interview next spring with her.
00:02:31.310 --> 00:02:31.889
Drinking the pot.
00:02:31.889 --> 00:02:34.110
I'm drinking coffee black because I have no creamer.
00:02:34.330 --> 00:02:34.639
Damn.
00:02:35.620 --> 00:02:39.280
I'm drinking a third of a Sprite that I had left from earlier.
00:02:40.349 --> 00:02:45.539
I was going to make me some hot tea, but they cut the water off cause they're working on plumbing today.
00:02:45.620 --> 00:02:48.110
So didn't have any water in my coffee.
00:02:50.729 --> 00:02:52.969
Man, it really is rough out here this morning.
00:02:54.270 --> 00:02:57.120
Alright guys, time to cross the parapet.
00:02:58.389 --> 00:03:04.620
Kena's gonna lead us through her Shadow and Starlight synopsis, aka her unhinged summary of the events in these chapters.
00:03:05.354 --> 00:03:05.875
Yes.
00:03:05.925 --> 00:03:18.616
And let me just preface this by saying the Iron Flame synopses, synopsi, yes, they're going to be super long because we're covering more chapters in a stretch because Iron Flame is a thick book.
00:03:18.616 --> 00:03:19.782
It's a thick book.
00:03:19.782 --> 00:03:20.645
So, just a heads up.
00:03:20.694 --> 00:03:20.830
yeah.
00:03:20.990 --> 00:03:23.180
Buckle your seatbelts, we're about to get into it.
00:03:23.750 --> 00:03:28.500
Iron Flame opens up with Violet munching on some biscuits and staring down her not so dead brother.
00:03:28.780 --> 00:03:33.780
After a quick conversation, he heads to the council meeting, which Violet follows to spy on with the other Marked Ones.
00:03:34.139 --> 00:03:39.680
The leaders of the revolution, Zayden at their head, argue about returning Bazgayeth and what to do with that pesky lightning wielder.
00:03:40.500 --> 00:03:44.750
A far cry from the girl who walked the parapet a year ago, Violet enters the chat and speaks her mind.
00:03:45.199 --> 00:03:48.794
After finally coming to an agreement, it's time It's time for our FMC to get answers.
00:03:49.235 --> 00:03:54.254
Violet debriefs her brother and he attempts to explain the last six years as well as the status of the revolution.
00:03:54.745 --> 00:03:57.235
It's finally dragon time with a big surprise for Violet.
00:03:57.555 --> 00:04:00.995
And Darna is black, fucking huge, and has an even bigger attitude.
00:04:01.335 --> 00:04:05.275
And it's also time for her to take a really long nap, meaning the crew has to head back to Bazgaia.
00:04:05.275 --> 00:04:12.724
Thanks to selective truths from Zayden and Violet, the surviving Athamean riders escape execution, yay, and get to go back to their death college.
00:04:13.034 --> 00:04:22.214
Yay! Father and son Atos both get their asses handed to them from mama and daughter Sorengale, which is oh so satisfying.
00:04:22.665 --> 00:04:26.595
Although I think a swift kick in the balls would have been the cherry on top, but whatever.
00:04:27.045 --> 00:04:34.084
Zayden gets his lieutenant orders and the Iron Squad revels in their first year accomplishment, despite the outrageously underwhelming graduation ceremony.
00:04:34.134 --> 00:04:49.605
Before their next year starts, the second and third years have a mere five days, instead of Some light therapy or taking time to process, you know, the year full of trauma they had, they party in the clerb, aka the gathering hall, celebrating the improbability of their survival thus far.
00:04:49.605 --> 00:04:56.024
The squad chats over drinks, Violet trying to pretend like she didn't have one of the most traumatic experiences of her life and almost die a few days ago.
00:04:56.535 --> 00:05:05.795
As Violet says, she is pleasantly fuddled but not entirely sloshed, which is how I am going to say how drunk I am anytime I have to report to my friends on a night out.
00:05:06.449 --> 00:05:14.740
Her and Zayden start to argue goodbyes, interrupted by father father atos and major pain in my ass bearish imparting some seriously bad news and death threats.
00:05:15.420 --> 00:05:19.899
On the flip side, Violet then gets some good news, Rhi is squad leader this year.
00:05:19.949 --> 00:05:20.529
Go girl.
00:05:20.879 --> 00:05:23.379
And ugh, Dane is unfortunately the wing leader.
00:05:25.560 --> 00:05:29.709
Orientation Day opens up with RSE, aka a class on how to survive torture.
00:05:29.790 --> 00:05:33.480
Bad news for Vi, who has a buttload of information worth torturing her over.
00:05:33.879 --> 00:05:39.470
Frantic after this discovery, she heads to the Archives, determined to get involved to quell the rising panic concerning her reality.
00:05:39.850 --> 00:05:42.600
Meeting Decenia, she requests a tome on the wards.
00:05:43.120 --> 00:05:45.069
On Conscription Day, we get a few surprises.
00:05:45.139 --> 00:05:48.959
One, King Tory's son ran away from Poppy to ride dragons.
00:05:49.290 --> 00:05:53.040
And Sloane absolutely despises Violet, blaming her for Liam's death.
00:05:53.504 --> 00:05:53.995
Ouch.
00:05:54.194 --> 00:05:58.675
Later, Dane offers an olive branch by assigning Sloane to their squad, the least he could do at this point.
00:05:58.754 --> 00:06:01.735
Although if you ask Kenzie, the least he could do is sacrifice himself to save Violet.
00:06:03.584 --> 00:06:04.264
The bare minimum.
00:06:04.444 --> 00:06:05.355
That's the bare minimum.
00:06:05.355 --> 00:06:09.805
Dragons fly in to intimidate the newbies, and just like last year, we got some runners.
00:06:09.995 --> 00:06:16.805
Unlike last year, there's an extra murderous orange dragon that torches the runners, part of third squad including Ciaran and almost Sloane.
00:06:16.870 --> 00:06:18.430
Saved by Violet's quick thinking.
00:06:18.829 --> 00:06:23.129
Just as Solace gets ready to roast again, Daddy Taron answers the chat to protect his rider.
00:06:23.879 --> 00:06:25.879
You do not burn, what is my name?
00:06:27.399 --> 00:06:29.769
I've never seen Lord of the Wings, but I love it.
00:06:29.769 --> 00:06:31.019
I love it.
00:06:31.300 --> 00:06:35.620
Yeah, so for some context listeners, I was um, Gardened.
00:06:36.129 --> 00:06:36.959
Writing this episode.
00:06:36.959 --> 00:06:37.360
Okay.
00:06:37.709 --> 00:06:41.399
And I just randomly put in parentheses, Smeagol voice.
00:06:41.610 --> 00:06:47.709
And I put the Taron quote and yeah, I hope you liked it.
00:06:47.709 --> 00:06:50.629
Plagued by nightmares, Imogen and Violet take up a new hobby.
00:06:50.800 --> 00:06:51.290
Running.
00:06:51.339 --> 00:06:53.939
With the next year in full swing, it's time for assessment day.
00:06:54.329 --> 00:06:59.689
Silly little Sloane, who can't throw a punch to save her life, wants to spar Violet, which Emitteria quickly denies.
00:07:00.050 --> 00:07:08.490
However, this little exchange caught the attention of the sadistic bull of a first year, aka Jack Barlow Jr., when Nadine commits identity theft, she gets her neck snapped.
00:07:09.779 --> 00:07:13.860
After a moment of shock and horror, Violet springs into action to avenge her squadmate.
00:07:13.990 --> 00:07:22.930
Badass as her girl is, she is nearly choked out by a frickin Venon assassin, who should be an O line men for Ohio State football, before giving him a fatal wound.
00:07:23.470 --> 00:07:25.750
To no surprise, Father Father Ato sent him.
00:07:26.259 --> 00:07:28.279
I smell a Venon conspiracy, y'all.
00:07:28.339 --> 00:07:30.500
And I will be getting into it in the theories section.
00:07:31.300 --> 00:07:39.370
After sucking it up through the rest of her classes, concussed and covered in blood because God forbid anybody show any weakness around here, Violet returns to find Zayden in her room.
00:07:39.790 --> 00:07:47.089
The two catch up and dibble and dabble in some arguments paired with some devastating sexual tension until he has to go fulfill his revolution responsibilities.
00:07:47.449 --> 00:07:50.370
On the bright side, he leaves our girl with a love letter.
00:07:50.870 --> 00:07:54.509
Violet is smitten as a kitten the next morning, and Imogen knows exactly why.
00:07:55.149 --> 00:08:01.620
Dissidia comes to deliver another book on the first six until a cadet is dragged out of class for borrowing a particular book from the archives.
00:08:01.709 --> 00:08:03.560
Spoiler alert! He ain't gon make it.
00:08:03.560 --> 00:08:07.600
On the way to the flight field, we learn that Riddick is a navigation god.
00:08:07.610 --> 00:08:12.639
Navarre leadership is redacting Mira's letters to Violet, and Varys stops by to order in Darna's presence.
00:08:12.750 --> 00:08:22.850
Sorry dude, she be nappin Time for Violet to take a weekend getaway to Samara, where we get a tiiiid bit of spice to hold us over until this duo gets over themselves and decides to destroy more furniture.
00:08:23.339 --> 00:08:28.949
On the return flight back, Violet is summoned by Varys for her punishment that is actually just military sanctioned sadistic torture.
00:08:29.300 --> 00:08:35.850
He pushes her to a dangerous cliff of burnout while Karr just stands there, and Tyrion rushes her to the river to cool her scalding body.
00:08:36.049 --> 00:08:41.384
In Sparring Practice later, a jumpy Violet almost kills Riddick, and her squad is then suddenly Kidnapped.
00:08:41.774 --> 00:08:44.164
Yep, it's time for a land navigation exercise.
00:08:44.544 --> 00:08:51.595
After their bonds with their dragons were non consensually severed, the squad has to work with infantry and a scribe to find a location from the maps they are given.
00:08:52.105 --> 00:08:53.664
And it goes as well as we think it will.
00:08:53.674 --> 00:08:57.485
They fail epically because the two groups cannot communicate to save their lives.
00:08:57.565 --> 00:08:59.754
Literally, since it costs Tomás his life.
00:09:00.325 --> 00:09:00.504
RIP.
00:09:00.995 --> 00:09:06.485
At the end of the stretch, lying to her friends and being apart from her man, who's no longer her man, is beginning to take a toll on Violet.
00:09:07.120 --> 00:09:07.769
Yes.
00:09:08.389 --> 00:09:08.700
Dang.
00:09:08.700 --> 00:09:10.549
I just absolutely bossed that shit out.
00:09:10.549 --> 00:09:11.049
You did.
00:09:11.070 --> 00:09:11.940
You did really good.
00:09:13.250 --> 00:09:14.799
Except for all the times I stopped to laugh at myself.
00:09:16.679 --> 00:09:20.320
It's so crazy because in just 15 chapters, so much happened.
00:09:21.149 --> 00:09:21.950
Oh my god.
00:09:21.950 --> 00:09:23.460
So much stuff happened in 15 chapters.
00:09:23.759 --> 00:09:26.759
I was like dividing up the chapters.
00:09:26.759 --> 00:09:31.929
I would see where we would start one episode and then where we would finish and I would be like, holy fucking shit.
00:09:32.269 --> 00:09:35.169
It's a whole journey.
00:09:37.259 --> 00:09:39.679
Well, guys, as you guys have survived the parapet.
00:09:40.264 --> 00:09:46.595
It's time to head into our battle brief section, where we will discuss all notable things in this stretch of chapters, including foreshadowing theories and our favorite parts.
00:09:47.904 --> 00:09:50.784
Yes, so we're going to dig into the Empyrean foreshadowing first.
00:09:50.815 --> 00:09:58.225
And once again, we're going to point out that the series is literally called the Empyrean series, and it is primarily about dragon politics through the stories of our FMC.
00:09:59.659 --> 00:10:03.539
So in chapter 7, we get an interesting reveal about the dragon government from Terran.
00:10:03.799 --> 00:10:08.610
He tells Violet that the reason fewer dragons are bonding is because the Empyrean knows about the Venon.
00:10:08.940 --> 00:10:24.465
This confuses Violet, to which he explains, quote, I can foresee this conflict in Dragon Government coming to a head, possibly very soon in the series, since the war against the Benin is progressing so rapidly.
00:10:24.855 --> 00:10:32.075
And Navar isn't the only one, and military leadership isn't the only one, that's gonna have to make decisions to protect their home, or in this case, the Vale.
00:10:32.575 --> 00:10:38.585
And this leaves us with a little bit of information about the Empyrean, but honestly, we still really don't know anything.
00:10:38.804 --> 00:10:46.024
But it does give an insight into the dynamics there and leaves us with a lot more questions on what exactly is happening with the Empyrean.
00:10:46.414 --> 00:10:47.904
Why are the dragons divided?
00:10:47.914 --> 00:10:51.999
Is it for some of the same reasons as Navar's willful ignorance?
00:10:52.328 --> 00:10:54.589
I'm so curious why the dragons wouldn't want to get involved.
00:10:54.589 --> 00:10:58.759
I'm guessing it's just because they maybe think that they're safe within the wards too.
00:10:59.469 --> 00:11:01.639
But I don't know, I feel like it's maybe something more than that.
00:11:01.649 --> 00:11:08.278
But I just wanted to shout it out since It's called the Empyrean series again and dragon politics is cool.
00:11:08.509 --> 00:11:21.708
Yeah, I do think it's interesting because we do know that the dragons and humans kind of depend on each other because without the dragons the humans don't have magic and without the humans the dragons aren't really safe because they can't make their own wards.
00:11:22.009 --> 00:11:23.719
So they are going to have to figure out.
00:11:23.974 --> 00:11:28.484
This divide somehow in order to win this war because they can't fight it separately.
00:11:28.754 --> 00:11:30.203
So it's very interesting.
00:11:30.364 --> 00:11:37.224
I love how when Taryn was explaining why dragons bonded to humans in the first place, he was like, we don't have opposable thumbs that we've warred.
00:11:37.225 --> 00:11:42.374
I was like, okay, good point.
00:11:44.453 --> 00:11:45.754
Need thumbs to make wards.
00:11:46.124 --> 00:11:50.153
I guess I like see the fingers to do all the magic and stuff.
00:11:50.994 --> 00:11:53.543
Next, we're going to discuss the topic of war.
00:11:53.573 --> 00:11:56.614
So we do know that in this book, we're prepping for a war.
00:11:56.644 --> 00:12:01.134
At the end of fourth wing, we know that Violet and the Mark ones fought against have been in the Wyvern.
00:12:01.134 --> 00:12:04.663
This is kind of like, that was kind of foreshadowing to the war that they will fight in this book.
00:12:05.053 --> 00:12:10.464
And now going back to about midway of the last book, Violet found a map in her mom's office.
00:12:10.464 --> 00:12:27.754
When they were doing the squad games, and the map was of the entire continent and the map was color coordinated according to certain aspects and one of them being Griffin attacks that were being Documented throughout the continent bring in had an identical map in Satan's house in a ratio But it was marked with all of the bidding attacks.
00:12:28.114 --> 00:12:34.028
Brennan is tracking their patterns and according to him They only have six Six months before war happens.
00:12:34.078 --> 00:12:36.389
And we know that it happens a lot earlier than six months.
00:12:36.629 --> 00:12:49.298
Quote the red flags are off in the last year, the last few years, and the orange are the last few months at the right, there've been the rate they've been expanding, not only in their numbers of wiring, but in territory, I think they're headed straight up to the stone water river.
00:12:49.298 --> 00:12:49.938
And we have six months.
00:12:49.953 --> 00:12:52.923
Months or less until they're strong enough to come for Navar.
00:12:53.083 --> 00:12:54.854
Not that the assembly will listen, quote.
00:12:55.433 --> 00:13:03.754
But this is very important to note because again, we did get a bit of foreshadowing of how this world would look and what they need to prep for, when they fight these bending.
00:13:03.783 --> 00:13:04.774
'cause they are very powerful.
00:13:04.774 --> 00:13:12.734
They literally can suck the magic out of the ground, like the one ing in that scene where she was like sucking on the magic and everything on that part of the ground that was being drained.
00:13:12.734 --> 00:13:15.163
Just died like, yeah.
00:13:15.163 --> 00:13:17.203
And that's when Soleil died, I think.
00:13:17.293 --> 00:13:17.803
Yeah.
00:13:18.033 --> 00:13:21.464
Yeah, she literally sucked the life right out and they got slurpy.
00:13:24.173 --> 00:13:41.943
And they also learned that they have to kill the Venon in order to kill their Wyvern and the Venon are really hard to kill and they have to figure out what weapons they can use to not get so close because right now they only have those daggers that you have to do hand on hand combat with those Venon and they adjust to combat very quickly.
00:13:42.104 --> 00:13:47.413
Quickly, so they have to figure out ways to just to bend in, spot in, and sell and how to kill them from afar.
00:13:47.673 --> 00:13:48.693
So they don't have to get too close.
00:13:48.844 --> 00:13:50.754
So yeah, not looking too good.
00:13:52.724 --> 00:13:55.734
No, it's stressing me out.
00:13:55.734 --> 00:14:00.933
I read all these fantasy books and till the very end of the series, they're severely the underdog.
00:14:01.364 --> 00:14:02.793
And I'm like, there's no way they're gonna win.
00:14:04.274 --> 00:14:05.033
And then they do.
00:14:05.323 --> 00:14:06.644
Well, sometimes.
00:14:07.844 --> 00:14:10.134
All right.
00:14:10.283 --> 00:14:12.024
Next, we're going to dig into the first six.
00:14:12.033 --> 00:14:19.604
So, we know from the second half of this book that there is a big mystery surrounding the first six and also the history of Navarre around unification.
00:14:19.663 --> 00:14:23.744
we learned a lot of information like something killed off the men in 600 years ago.
00:14:23.803 --> 00:14:28.793
And a lot of this book is Violet trying to figure out things from the first six and the wards and everything.
00:14:28.793 --> 00:14:29.553
this is really important.
00:14:29.553 --> 00:14:33.423
So, we just wanted to talk really briefly about the foreshadowing around this topic.
00:14:34.479 --> 00:14:38.769
The first six riders were desperate to save their people when they approached the dens over 600 years ago.
00:14:39.119 --> 00:14:44.019
Those dragons formed the Empyrean and bonded humans only to protect their hatching grounds from Venon, who were the bigger threat.
00:14:44.438 --> 00:14:47.778
We don't exactly have opposable thumbs for weaving wards or runes.
00:14:48.038 --> 00:14:53.089
Neither species has ever been entirely truthful, both using the other for their own reasons and nothing more.
00:14:53.739 --> 00:15:03.158
The first six are also responsible for raising the wars in Bazgayeth and for fighting in the Great War against General Darumor that decimated the Barrens, aka the scary land that's Superdrained by Venon.
00:15:04.479 --> 00:15:08.489
I just wanted to say, it feels like we're missing so much information about the Great War.
00:15:08.899 --> 00:15:30.913
that could be important to understand, and more about, like, General Daremore, the enemy they're fighting against, I'm sure it's probably gonna connect to the plot and it just all seems so interconnected, and there's a big mystery there, and so I'm thinking that As the books continue, we'll slowly get to unravel this, we know that something killed off the event in 600 years ago, around all the time the shit was going down, like, what is it?
00:15:31.144 --> 00:15:35.573
And is it connected to the first six, the great war, feather tails, all the above?
00:15:35.653 --> 00:15:36.653
I need answers, Rebecca.
00:15:36.774 --> 00:15:37.193
Okay.
00:15:37.553 --> 00:15:38.364
Stop playing with me.
00:15:38.964 --> 00:15:43.764
Yeah, I do think it'll all connect because we know that the first six.
00:15:44.278 --> 00:15:48.578
Again in bonded dragons and they came together to fight off Benin.
00:15:48.639 --> 00:15:51.208
So how did they do it?
00:15:51.769 --> 00:15:52.729
How'd they achieve this?
00:15:55.058 --> 00:15:56.068
Who's gonna discover it?
00:15:56.149 --> 00:16:07.288
I feel like Papa Sauron girl most likely has answers on this and we just gotta find his research Driving me nuts because she knows where it is.
00:16:07.339 --> 00:16:11.918
I'm like, could you just maybe I go get it?
00:16:11.918 --> 00:16:17.469
Please It's definitely very pointed that she hasn't gone to get it yet.
00:16:17.568 --> 00:16:18.599
Yeah, that's all I'll say.
00:16:19.458 --> 00:16:20.158
Oh my gosh.
00:16:20.458 --> 00:16:21.328
Random thought.
00:16:21.528 --> 00:16:21.928
Sorry.
00:16:22.708 --> 00:16:30.989
I think it was a recent interview or snippet or whatever, Rebecca, and they were asking her what her favorite signet was and she said that it hasn't come into the series yet.
00:16:31.048 --> 00:16:34.208
I'm like, Oh my God, is it Violet's second signet?
00:16:34.599 --> 00:16:36.788
Or we also don't know Garrick's signet.
00:16:36.789 --> 00:16:38.708
Which is interesting.
00:16:38.708 --> 00:16:42.168
So it could be that one either, but I'm thinking it's Violet's second signet and it's going to be so awesome.
00:16:42.339 --> 00:16:42.629
Hmm.
00:16:42.969 --> 00:16:43.749
Interesting.
00:16:43.798 --> 00:16:44.399
Totally random.
00:16:45.649 --> 00:16:46.639
But interesting.
00:16:46.639 --> 00:16:47.186
Very much.
00:16:47.186 --> 00:16:51.109
Very much interesting.
00:16:51.288 --> 00:16:56.178
All right, now let's talk about the Varian leadership erasing Venon from history.
00:16:56.678 --> 00:17:08.429
In the cryptic letter that Papa Sorengel left Violet, he mentioned that it only takes one generation to change or erase history, and the Varian leadership got rid of any trace or evidence of Venon from the archive.
00:17:08.838 --> 00:17:19.778
So we know this because Violet requested a copy of the book of fables and her father read to her as a child and they didn't have anything regarding around wyverns or the book of fables or venon.
00:17:19.778 --> 00:17:30.138
I feel like from what's being taught at best guy, if this goes against everything they stand for and just to sit back behind protected wards while innocent people are being killed, it just doesn't really sit well.
00:17:30.140 --> 00:17:31.919
And at the same time, what was the point?
00:17:31.929 --> 00:17:33.628
Like, I understand the first six.
00:17:33.874 --> 00:17:44.044
And the dragons defeated Venon at one point in time, but we know that Venon come from dark wielders and it's not just because you erased all of them at that time doesn't mean they're not going to reappear.
00:17:44.054 --> 00:17:49.614
So why not have this documented in history so that we know how to, defeat them again, if it happens.
00:17:49.894 --> 00:17:55.364
And it just raises a lot of flags, why they keep the secret for so long and why are we not preparing for war?
00:17:56.084 --> 00:17:56.534
I know.
00:17:56.923 --> 00:18:00.614
I get it for however many hundreds of years after.
00:18:01.618 --> 00:18:03.278
All this happened in their race history.
00:18:03.328 --> 00:18:08.328
For a time, you could just be in your blissful, willful ignorance and be like, this is working.
00:18:08.679 --> 00:18:11.959
But I feel like at this point, like eventually it's going to happen.
00:18:12.058 --> 00:18:13.098
You're going to have to go to war.
00:18:13.439 --> 00:18:16.778
Like maybe we should, educate people about what actually happened.
00:18:16.788 --> 00:18:17.548
Yes.
00:18:17.648 --> 00:18:30.558
And I feel like they were so naive to think that they could be safe behind their wards, because we know from this book that the Venom had been disguised as Scraps, like they found their way inside the wards.
00:18:30.989 --> 00:18:31.769
I know, bruh.
00:18:31.929 --> 00:18:35.048
Especially since they're already faltering so much at this point.
00:18:35.499 --> 00:18:38.919
Oh, side note, since we've been Theorizing on why the wards are failing.
00:18:40.239 --> 00:18:49.199
I think it was Brennan, or I don't know, someone was telling Violet that the reason the wards are failing is because they have to imbue the alloy in the daggers with power to keep the wards going.
00:18:49.209 --> 00:18:50.729
But can't you just constantly imbue them?
00:18:51.578 --> 00:18:52.769
Hmm, I don't know.
00:18:53.148 --> 00:18:53.449
I'm confused.
00:18:53.788 --> 00:18:54.588
That confused me.
00:18:54.759 --> 00:19:03.278
Well I guess that also again explains why they were feeling too because the griffins were taking the daggers are those are daggers that they were taking Yeah.
00:19:03.288 --> 00:19:03.699
Okay.
00:19:03.709 --> 00:19:04.088
Yeah.
00:19:04.169 --> 00:19:10.769
Well, I don't know if it's daggers in the outposts or just raw alloy that powers the wards and then they steal it to make it the daggers.
00:19:10.788 --> 00:19:11.138
I don't know.
00:19:12.469 --> 00:19:14.078
Why don't I know these things?
00:19:14.078 --> 00:19:15.068
I've read this book so many times.
00:19:18.338 --> 00:19:23.888
All right, so we're going to talk a little bit Scribes and the role that they're going to play in this upcoming war.
00:19:23.909 --> 00:19:32.848
So we know that in this book, the dragon riders and the griffon flyers will join forces and train together to fight in this upcoming war against the Venon, but strength and weapons is not the only thing that we need.
00:19:32.989 --> 00:19:47.219
We've learned all that's like that knowledge is also power quote in a world of dragon riders, Griffin flyers, and dark wielders, it's scribes who hold all the power, which we know to be true since they literally were able to erase history and change the mindset of a whole country.
00:19:47.265 --> 00:19:48.784
Continent.
00:19:49.064 --> 00:19:49.733
Continent.
00:19:49.844 --> 00:19:51.134
Well, yeah.
00:19:51.233 --> 00:19:51.854
I think it is.
00:19:51.884 --> 00:19:52.284
I don't know.
00:19:52.693 --> 00:19:57.263
I know there's a whole continent, but I don't know what the bar is.
00:19:58.943 --> 00:19:59.364
All right.
00:19:59.794 --> 00:20:05.854
Anyways, and Violet is very much proof of this, as people have often relied on her knowledge to get through several challenges.
00:20:06.193 --> 00:20:11.933
And she acknowledges this power herself, saying that, scribe in its ranks, but it has me.
00:20:12.374 --> 00:20:22.973
So I think this is also foreshadowing to the role of scribes in the war, and I think her and Jessenia will have a super awesome scribe team up in the grander plot of the book, and I'm really excited to see it.
00:20:23.173 --> 00:20:25.403
And I also want to just learn more about Jessenia, she's cool.
00:20:25.554 --> 00:20:30.034
Yeah, and of course we know that she's the one that transcribes it, so she's really badass.
00:20:30.574 --> 00:20:31.354
She gets to document these.
00:20:31.354 --> 00:20:33.443
And we know she doesn't die, so we can get attached to her.
00:20:36.453 --> 00:20:41.673
She's going to be one of the key factors in changing history here, because she is putting it all on paper.
00:20:42.663 --> 00:20:43.034
Yes.
00:20:43.423 --> 00:20:45.653
All right, now briefly we'll discuss the first six.
00:20:46.384 --> 00:20:51.554
So we know that all of this, like the Van and Wyvern, comes from the Book of Fables again.
00:20:51.814 --> 00:20:56.233
And this is where the tale originated from, especially in regard to the characters.
00:20:56.463 --> 00:20:59.394
I'm remembering correctly, because I forgot to fact check, that there were three brothers.
00:20:59.683 --> 00:21:04.324
The two of them decided to wield from the sky and use dragons and griffins to help balance their magic.
00:21:04.324 --> 00:21:09.513
And then we had another brother who I'm assuming was very greedy and jealous and turned to dark magic.
00:21:09.733 --> 00:21:13.034
And this is where we get, I call them the OGs.
00:21:14.354 --> 00:21:18.443
And for some reason, like Kena said a while ago, in our fourth wing coverage.
00:21:18.444 --> 00:21:23.604
I feel like the OG mage, like whoever's over the dark waters is someone we know.
00:21:24.223 --> 00:21:25.713
And I want to, I don't know.
00:21:25.743 --> 00:21:31.933
the way I see it in my head is like, I know there's one brother that's over Dragon Riders, and there's one brother over the Griffin Riders.
00:21:31.963 --> 00:21:34.534
I feel like the other one is who's going to be over Dark Willows.
00:21:34.624 --> 00:21:38.384
But I don't know who these people are, but I just feel like they're all interconnected somehow.
00:21:38.554 --> 00:21:40.364
And they're the ones that started this tale.
00:21:40.364 --> 00:21:43.294
So I feel like it'll be like, a trifecta almost.
00:21:43.433 --> 00:21:44.044
I don't know.
00:21:44.263 --> 00:21:44.794
Yes.
00:21:45.483 --> 00:21:47.654
Well, I'm convinced it's Neoland, but I don't know.
00:21:48.194 --> 00:21:57.095
So yeah, we're gonna keep our foreshadowing section short because if we talked about everything that was foreshadowed in this stretch of chapters, this beefy stretch of chapters, we would be talking forever.
00:21:57.484 --> 00:22:00.984
But we do get a lot of hints to other things, notably Jack Barlow's reappearance.
00:22:02.069 --> 00:22:09.509
Very soon and a lot of other really small things that we think we should get into an episode where it's a little more prominent.
00:22:09.690 --> 00:22:13.839
So because all of this is going to reappear at some point, like all this is going to be reiterated.
00:22:13.859 --> 00:22:24.230
So yes, but it's time to get in my favorite section, the theories and oh my gosh, I was just like typing so fast when I was doing these.
00:22:24.230 --> 00:22:24.960
I had so many thoughts.
00:22:25.440 --> 00:22:26.220
So buckle up.
00:22:26.434 --> 00:22:33.865
First I want to talk about, that I gave a shout out to in our synopsis, is my theory around the Venon assassins and the leadership conspiracy.
00:22:35.355 --> 00:22:41.164
So in our fourth wing episodes, I went on a bit of a theory rampage about how Father, Father Atos is likely colluding with the Venon.
00:22:41.615 --> 00:22:43.244
And I have more evidence for you.
00:22:43.714 --> 00:22:48.944
Before he leaves for his newly assigned outpost, because He did Mamasaur and Gil wrong.
00:22:49.244 --> 00:22:52.365
He tells our two main characters, quote, Secrets make for poor leverage.
00:22:52.384 --> 00:22:53.875
They die with the people who keep them.
00:22:54.265 --> 00:22:59.115
And then the assassin that attacks Violet at assessment says the exact same thing.
00:22:59.295 --> 00:23:02.414
So we know for sure that he was sent by Atos.
00:23:03.984 --> 00:23:07.275
And this assassin is a Venon with red rimmed eyes.
00:23:07.805 --> 00:23:20.875
So this has me thinking that Varys and Colonel Atos are likely working together with the Venon or possibly are Venon, as it is confirmed that they are friends in the Stretch of Chapters and appear to be sadistic buddies, I guess.
00:23:21.724 --> 00:23:26.644
And this is just too many coincidences for me not to have a super detailed theory.
00:23:27.875 --> 00:23:35.184
And Barish is exactly the type who would go evil, and the fact that Dane's father is friends with him just speaks volumes about who Dane's father is.
00:23:35.515 --> 00:23:46.523
Which is crazy because I feel like Dane has his father on a pedestal, so he's clearly not seeing the side of him that's friends with Barish, who's like, literally the devil.
00:23:47.683 --> 00:23:54.054
And I already theorized about these two, but I think Atos passed over his Jack fuckin Barlow project to his little friend on the way out.
00:23:54.473 --> 00:24:02.574
And the fact that they seem to have authority over this operation, and that Jack is a menin too, is just, uh All of these things are just lining up and it's so suspicious.
00:24:02.943 --> 00:24:14.493
And on top of all this, Varish is actually inquiring about Papasaur and Gale's research in chapter 11, which is something Father Father Atos has also done in the past, which makes me think that this feathertail research is something crucially related to the Venon.
00:24:14.494 --> 00:24:28.199
And something very interesting I noted when this happened was that, uh, When Barish asked her about the research, Violet reflects in her internal monologue that quote, Andarna has gone silent at the mention of this research.
00:24:28.818 --> 00:24:29.128
What?
00:24:30.118 --> 00:24:31.028
That's so pointed.
00:24:31.739 --> 00:24:38.489
the fact that Andarna was silent and we know everything we know at the end of this book about how special Andarna is.
00:24:38.528 --> 00:24:42.729
And again, the research we keep talking about what this is very pointed.
00:24:42.729 --> 00:24:43.489
Rebecca, I see you.
00:24:44.038 --> 00:24:44.669
I'm paying attention.
00:24:45.439 --> 00:24:45.959
Yes.
00:24:46.179 --> 00:24:54.469
I do also think that Barish and Atos are probably working together or inside Rats.
00:24:54.499 --> 00:25:17.449
Because we know that when Atos was setting up the Mark I's, he lured the, Venon to the outpost and F F in and the one that been in was like that's what we were caught here We don't know if they were caught here by her sage so we don't know if they like, she's was, that they were caught there by their sage or by Nevarian leadership, who was trying to set up some work lines.
00:25:17.449 --> 00:25:18.009
We don't know.
00:25:18.798 --> 00:25:19.159
So.
00:25:20.338 --> 00:25:25.979
Yeah, we did get confirmation in the stretch that the box and resin was allure and it was of Nevarian craftsmanship.
00:25:26.108 --> 00:25:26.489
So.
00:25:28.159 --> 00:25:29.048
Definitely a trap.
00:25:29.189 --> 00:25:38.489
All right, we're gonna talk about violent and her connection to Malik, we've discussed the many mentions to Malik in book one over the last five episodes and it continues into this book as well.
00:25:38.769 --> 00:25:44.409
Quote, I've danced with Malik more than my fair share over the last year and told him to fuck right off every single time.
00:25:44.449 --> 00:25:46.269
Maybe Sloane is right and he doesn't want me.
00:25:46.338 --> 00:25:46.769
End quote.
00:25:47.189 --> 00:25:53.819
This feels like foreshadowing again to Violet having some special connection with Malik as Kana has said throughout the whole Fourth Wing book.
00:25:54.269 --> 00:25:59.269
Once again, we feel like this will turn into something significant later on and possibly connect to the Benin.
00:25:59.289 --> 00:26:02.430
And I also have a theory on this that I'm going to talk about at the end of this coverage.
00:26:03.799 --> 00:26:04.970
It's inspired by you, Kano.
00:26:05.720 --> 00:26:06.410
I feel so special.
00:26:06.970 --> 00:26:13.980
CNS on the Iron Flame map, the Bay of Malik is right next to the Barrens and we're just pointing out all these coincidences.
00:26:14.269 --> 00:26:15.690
That is such a weird word, coincidence.
00:26:17.265 --> 00:26:19.144
You get tripped up by the weirdest words, man.
00:26:19.275 --> 00:26:20.865
There's so many syllables in that word.
00:26:20.934 --> 00:26:21.865
Coincidences.
00:26:22.144 --> 00:26:23.755
Coincidences.
00:26:23.865 --> 00:26:24.714
Aurora.
00:26:24.714 --> 00:26:27.664
Coincidences.
00:26:27.664 --> 00:26:30.614
Coincidences.
00:26:31.474 --> 00:26:33.035
Goddamn, how many syllables is that?
00:26:33.634 --> 00:26:34.184
It's five.
00:26:35.549 --> 00:26:44.430
It's a lot less than what it seems like, but it like, when you say it, it's like, yeah, also It was a sick burn that Sloan says she hopes no one commends Violet's soul to Malik.
00:26:44.619 --> 00:26:44.789
Ouch.
00:26:45.595 --> 00:26:46.914
She said that I was like, dang.
00:26:50.005 --> 00:26:56.625
I might start saying the way I just want to curse fantasy curse words all the time.
00:26:56.625 --> 00:26:59.894
And then also I want to like roast people, fantasy things.
00:26:59.894 --> 00:27:02.595
Like I hope no one commends your soul to Malik, bitch.
00:27:03.654 --> 00:27:06.045
And they're like, well, what are you talking about?
00:27:06.045 --> 00:27:09.444
All right.
00:27:09.855 --> 00:27:10.694
The last theory.
00:27:11.265 --> 00:27:12.994
I wonder if anyone can guess what it is.
00:27:13.224 --> 00:27:17.164
It's time for me to hate on Brennan for real.
00:27:17.164 --> 00:27:19.234
I titled this theory, I'm watching you, Brennan.
00:27:19.734 --> 00:27:23.525
Since we have finally arrived at book two, it's time for me to spew my Brennan suspicions.
00:27:23.565 --> 00:27:26.615
And in the short time we get with him in the beginning, there are some things to note.
00:27:26.954 --> 00:27:30.815
One, Brennan has a mysterious rune shaped scar on his palm.
00:27:31.375 --> 00:27:31.704
Hmm.
00:27:32.214 --> 00:27:32.934
What the heck is that?
00:27:33.154 --> 00:27:35.904
This has something to do with what happened six years ago.
00:27:36.204 --> 00:27:40.095
Maybe I had a crazy thought, maybe it's a rune to hide his actions.
00:27:40.095 --> 00:27:42.855
If he is a traitor to the revolution, that would be pretty wild.
00:27:43.244 --> 00:27:46.515
But this is definitely like a very pointed thing to notice.
00:27:46.535 --> 00:27:48.585
Like why do you have a scar on your palm, sir?
00:27:48.984 --> 00:27:51.335
And it's also not mentioned again in Iron Flame, I don't think.
00:27:51.345 --> 00:27:52.855
So we don't actually know what it is yet.
00:27:53.684 --> 00:27:59.924
Two, he is super vague explaining what happens to Nalen, saying that he didn't fail but it cost him anything.
00:28:00.075 --> 00:28:01.105
Like, can you elaborate?
00:28:01.115 --> 00:28:01.914
Is he dead, bro?
00:28:02.275 --> 00:28:10.384
Like, why are you not Can you And then, three, on top of that, Taryn refuses to talk about Nalen.
00:28:10.724 --> 00:28:17.295
And I'm wondering, maybe a betrayal happened similar to the end of Iron Flame with Zayden Segale and that's why he doesn't like to talk about it.
00:28:17.325 --> 00:28:21.125
maybe Nalen is alive and I'm in it now, and maybe Taryn severed the bond between them.
00:28:21.125 --> 00:28:22.265
I I don't know.
00:28:22.394 --> 00:28:22.654
Yeah.
00:28:22.984 --> 00:28:25.035
There's some serious E in history there.
00:28:25.045 --> 00:28:25.444
Yes.
00:28:25.494 --> 00:28:29.384
And we know that Taryn is not ashamed of lying by omission.
00:28:29.505 --> 00:28:30.025
So.
00:28:33.085 --> 00:28:39.174
And four, my last suspicion is that Brennan mentions that Sigele doesn't like him and never has.
00:28:39.214 --> 00:28:46.515
And I don't know about you, but this is one of the biggest red flags for me because you know, I like Sigele, I feel like she has a good breed on people.
00:28:47.035 --> 00:28:55.255
And that also creates more mystery around what happened with Naomi and when Brennan was blah, blah, blah, yeah.
00:28:55.609 --> 00:28:55.900
Yeah.
00:28:56.440 --> 00:28:57.500
I just lost my train of thought.
00:28:59.700 --> 00:29:00.000
Yeah.
00:29:00.190 --> 00:29:01.259
But you get what I'm saying.
00:29:01.700 --> 00:29:02.049
I don't know.
00:29:02.049 --> 00:29:07.940
It's weird because if Naomi's alive, why is Taron bonded to another writer?
00:29:08.519 --> 00:29:09.930
I think they can sever the bond.
00:29:10.690 --> 00:29:34.160
if he's He's what you think and he's over the dark wielders and he severed that bond to protect Navar or prep Navar and bond the next badass, weapon to the war, the last thing I want to add about that theory is, maybe, I'm going too far and he's not a traitor to the revolution, but I do feel like something's just off there.
00:29:34.250 --> 00:29:39.319
And in the short time we get with him, there's a lot of moments that I just had to point out.
00:29:39.579 --> 00:29:41.119
So we'll see where this goes with Brennan.
00:29:41.700 --> 00:29:42.509
I hope I'm not wrong.
00:29:43.210 --> 00:29:44.730
It also kind of makes me sad though.
00:29:44.910 --> 00:29:54.359
If their writers turn into Venons becomes like a big factor in their bond because we know that Sigil and Zayden's bond isn't as strong later on in the book, when he becomes Venon.
00:29:54.720 --> 00:29:55.720
So I don't know.
00:29:56.359 --> 00:29:56.650
Yeah.
00:29:57.319 --> 00:29:57.970
I don't know, man.
00:29:58.730 --> 00:30:00.779
So many, so many questions, not very many.
00:30:01.569 --> 00:30:02.029
Right.
00:30:02.210 --> 00:30:02.670
Right.
00:30:04.430 --> 00:30:06.609
Let's get into our favorite and notable moments.
00:30:06.670 --> 00:30:11.339
And I first want to talk about Dane getting his ass handed to him repeatedly.
00:30:11.970 --> 00:30:16.869
Ever since we have started deep diving the series, my hatred for Dane has reached a fever pitch.
00:30:17.789 --> 00:30:19.490
And Kenzie is not helping with that.
00:30:20.039 --> 00:30:20.759
She's making it worse.
00:30:21.670 --> 00:30:22.900
She really hates this man.
00:30:23.589 --> 00:30:27.089
but thank God Dane got his ass handled in the stretch of chapters.
00:30:27.089 --> 00:30:29.680
Not just from Violet, but also Zayden and Rhiannon.
00:30:29.730 --> 00:30:33.990
it was cracking me up that they wouldn't handle his ass and then he would be speechless.
00:30:33.990 --> 00:30:35.450
I'm like, well, you're reaping what you sow.
00:30:36.059 --> 00:30:43.759
My favorite line was the first thing out of Violet's mouth when he tries to cut her damn face again upon seeing her for the first time since they returned from Athbin.
00:30:44.220 --> 00:30:51.490
And she says this, quote, Touch me and I swear to gods, I'll cut your fucking hands off and let the quadrant source you out in the next round of challenges, Dane Atos.
00:30:52.710 --> 00:31:04.835
Yep, we have been waiting for these words for an entire book and damn, do they feel And the cherry on top of this is then watching Dane try to fill Zayden's wing leader shoes, which, of course, it's not going to happen.
00:31:05.335 --> 00:31:06.045
Not even close.
00:31:06.625 --> 00:31:13.125
And then later on, Rihanna even reminds him that Zayden didn't need everyone to supplicate to him as week leader to do his job.
00:31:13.144 --> 00:31:13.644
And I was like, damn.
00:31:15.244 --> 00:31:16.535
You're not wrong.
00:31:17.434 --> 00:31:23.644
Okay, I just want to piggyback off of what you said cuz she beat me to the punch and it's not a lot to say, like you covered it all.
00:31:23.644 --> 00:31:31.295
I'm so glad that Violet was able to be like, and I love the fact that Zayden takes a punch in his pride.
00:31:31.325 --> 00:31:32.765
I just, I love this little.
00:31:33.904 --> 00:31:37.464
I don't know why they're like low key fighting for Violet, but Zayden already knows that he won.
00:31:37.464 --> 00:31:38.795
So he's not fazed by it.
00:31:39.055 --> 00:31:40.914
And he's just throwing punches left and right.
00:31:40.914 --> 00:31:41.944
And he's like, yeah, take that.
00:31:43.045 --> 00:31:43.565
So delicious.
00:31:44.464 --> 00:31:49.525
My next favorite part is the beginning of Imogen and Violet's friendship.
00:31:49.805 --> 00:31:54.345
Even though Imogen calls them quote, co conspirators with a vested interest in keeping each other alive.
00:31:54.345 --> 00:31:56.615
Damn it girl, you guys are friends and you freaking know it.
00:31:57.234 --> 00:32:02.375
But anyways, I loved rereading this and watched their friendship blossom from the beginning.
00:32:02.384 --> 00:32:08.724
Ever since Imogen started weight training her and now they went through battle together and now they're running together.
00:32:09.075 --> 00:32:43.484
This is such a stark difference because Imogen Literally snapped Violet's shoulder in hatred the first day that they were around each other and this has transformed into them protecting each other's lives and having such a fun dynamic and clearly Imogen has a lot of respect for Violet now saying quote if it wasn't right for Ryerson or in Sorengale We'd all be dead and quote which shocks Violet and she said that's the closest thing to a compliment she's ever given and Imogen is just standing there looking at Violet with nothing but respect in her eyes and And For what we know about Imogen, her to say this is basically a glowing recommendation.
00:32:43.515 --> 00:32:45.295
So yes, you guys are friends, okay?
00:32:46.384 --> 00:32:54.365
But I really appreciated their relationship at this point in the story, because we know that Violet can no longer confide in Rhiannon, and is actively avoiding her.
00:32:54.394 --> 00:32:57.484
So I'm glad that we get some female friendship while that sorts itself out.
00:32:58.375 --> 00:33:04.525
It actually makes me really sad that Rhiannon and Violet are Well, I don't know.
00:33:04.525 --> 00:33:06.654
I don't know, it just makes me really sad.
00:33:07.990 --> 00:33:08.359
I know.
00:33:08.369 --> 00:33:10.990
Well, at least it doesn't last for more than half a book.
00:33:11.089 --> 00:33:18.190
I know if she can't be truthful with her friends, she doesn't want to be close to her and continue to build a relationship of friendship off of lies, but I also think she's overthinking it.
00:33:18.200 --> 00:33:19.710
Cause there's so many things that she could say.
00:33:20.865 --> 00:33:22.115
That wouldn't be lying.
00:33:22.144 --> 00:33:23.835
And she's just freaks out and runs away.
00:33:24.065 --> 00:33:25.244
It's so funny how she does it.
00:33:25.355 --> 00:33:27.795
She's like, okay, she just like runs off.
00:33:29.654 --> 00:33:30.884
She's like, I gotta go run.
00:33:30.884 --> 00:33:35.625
Yeah, I know.
00:33:35.625 --> 00:33:38.184
It does make me sad, but understandable.
00:33:38.184 --> 00:33:45.144
especially after Atos basically threatened Mira and her friends so like, I get it, but also.
00:33:45.775 --> 00:33:51.065
I feel like if she would have thought it through a little bit more because eventually she does tell them, she comes to a point where she's like, I can't do this anymore.
00:33:51.075 --> 00:33:51.365
Yeah.
00:33:51.384 --> 00:33:56.154
I'm like, yeah, maybe you should have just done it earlier if you were gonna do it in the first place, but I also get it.
00:33:56.154 --> 00:33:59.984
Because it also could affect them, too.
00:34:00.085 --> 00:34:05.934
Because if they're preparing for a war against a bigger enemy, you would want your closest friends to know so they can prepare.
00:34:06.694 --> 00:34:07.144
Mm hmm.
00:34:07.575 --> 00:34:08.014
Yeah, man.
00:34:08.065 --> 00:34:11.724
All right, my last favorite moment is the dragon banter, of course.
00:34:11.764 --> 00:34:12.425
Oh my gosh.
00:34:12.465 --> 00:34:20.735
I love the dynamic between the dragons and Violet even more this book because, of course, what grumpy daddy Taryn needed was a sassy teenage sister dragon.
00:34:21.114 --> 00:34:27.625
And it's so comical that Andarna now loves to tell Taryn that he is wrong at every opportunity.
00:34:28.755 --> 00:34:33.045
We only get some of the conversations, but I can just imagine how every conversation is going in between them.
00:34:33.525 --> 00:34:41.324
And I gotta say, this man, or dragon, sorry, has a lot of patience, and my favorite example from this stretch is when they are pulling up to Baskaioth.
00:34:41.784 --> 00:34:46.565
Terran says, quote, a rolling dismount would tear you limb from limb on impact.
00:34:46.824 --> 00:34:51.335
You don't know that! Violet says, I'd watch it, he might get tired and drop you.
00:34:51.900 --> 00:34:57.000
His pride would never allow it, says the dragon who spent 20 minutes refusing to put on her harness.
00:35:00.420 --> 00:35:06.360
I love how we get these little funny comments and then I just have this total picture in my head of Antara sitting there.
00:35:06.360 --> 00:35:08.340
She's like, I'm not putting on my harness, I can fly myself.
00:35:10.119 --> 00:35:11.610
But uh, I just love it.
00:35:11.650 --> 00:35:18.969
I know Violet's got problems on top of problems on top of problems in this book, but at least she and us as readers are very entertained by the dragons.
00:35:19.010 --> 00:35:19.400
Yes.
00:35:19.885 --> 00:35:20.375
Yes.
00:35:21.914 --> 00:35:30.114
So my, it was really hard for me to pick specific favorite moments, stuff like the whole first 15 chapters that we're covering, it's just a really great introduction to what's going to happen.
00:35:30.755 --> 00:35:40.824
So the biggest thing that I was excited about was us learning about the revolution and us moving into this new setting and this new plot now that we've gotten through fourth wing.
00:35:41.264 --> 00:35:53.344
And for some reason, I just love that Zayden is following his father's footsteps to save innocent people because the way the bar paints it they make it seem like Finn was the big enemy and he, went against his loyalty against the bar to start a rebellion.
00:35:53.344 --> 00:35:58.364
That, uh, but really he was trying to help innocent people because the bar are, they're the true enemies here.
00:35:58.364 --> 00:35:59.284
They're the two bad guys.
00:35:59.735 --> 00:36:06.295
And it just shows that there are still good people in this world, and not everyone is turning their heads to the corruption outside the wards.
00:36:06.315 --> 00:36:17.184
And sometimes new settings really piss me off in fantasy books, and Kenna knows this because I'm struggling to get through Throne of Glass because we keep switching settings and it's so hard for me to get back into the new world.
00:36:18.485 --> 00:36:21.375
But Yarrow's rotes.
00:36:22.034 --> 00:36:33.184
The intro to, Iron Flame is such an underwhelming way, and I say that in a good way, because it's not as hard to get into when she's introducing Aresha and Brennan in the house of Bryerson.
00:36:33.764 --> 00:36:34.985
It's really, it's like an easy flow.
00:36:34.985 --> 00:36:35.875
It's easy to get into.
00:36:36.054 --> 00:36:37.094
It's easy to picture.
00:36:37.474 --> 00:36:52.485
It's not very overwhelming with all the different, Settings that we have this book going back and forth between Araysha and Navar, so I do appreciate that, and I just can't wait for us to go back to Araysha, for some reason this book, I hate when they're at Vesgaia, I want them to go back, I love the time they have.
00:36:52.594 --> 00:36:53.085
Really?
00:36:53.344 --> 00:36:53.735
Yeah.
00:36:54.244 --> 00:36:55.164
I'm the opposite.
00:36:55.755 --> 00:36:58.954
It's just because all the juicy, drama that happens when they go back to the place.
00:36:58.954 --> 00:37:01.434
I can't wait for us to get to that part, but there is a lot.
00:37:01.474 --> 00:37:02.675
It's definitely fun.
00:37:02.974 --> 00:37:08.914
I remember waiting for Iron Flame to come out and I was like, Oh, I really want them to go back to Bas Gaia because I love reading about their time there.
00:37:09.344 --> 00:37:10.804
But I was like, what if they never get to go back?
00:37:10.974 --> 00:37:11.485
I don't know.
00:37:11.514 --> 00:37:20.375
When I first started reading fourth wing, I love the setting of best guy, because I love when we have magical colleges or boarding schools, like I told you about wings club.
00:37:20.994 --> 00:37:25.284
I love watching these couples run up because it was a little like magical beings all under one roof.
00:37:25.284 --> 00:37:28.005
And they were going to school and learn how to control their magic and stuff like that.
00:37:28.295 --> 00:37:29.385
And I feel like that's so cool.
00:37:29.385 --> 00:37:32.565
And when best guys became corrupted, I was like, well, damn, now we need to get a new spot.
00:37:32.565 --> 00:37:35.144
And so they went to a ratio and then they're learning new skills.
00:37:35.175 --> 00:37:36.125
And they're like, I don't know.
00:37:36.125 --> 00:37:36.775
I just like it.
00:37:36.914 --> 00:37:37.635
I like the setting.
00:37:38.025 --> 00:37:38.284
Yeah.
00:37:39.525 --> 00:37:40.465
I'm pretty sure it's a ratio.
00:37:40.565 --> 00:37:43.894
Arisha, it's fine.
00:37:43.934 --> 00:37:44.534
I don't know now.
00:37:44.534 --> 00:37:45.635
I'm questioning everything.
00:37:46.824 --> 00:37:47.355
Oh well.
00:37:49.255 --> 00:37:50.454
All right, folks, I'm gonna close out.
00:37:50.454 --> 00:37:54.994
I better breathe and move on to the Book of where we will divide, where we will divide?
00:37:55.045 --> 00:37:57.875
Where we will dive into the mythology that inspired Iron Flame.
00:37:58.500 --> 00:38:00.570
We'll do long division.
00:38:01.409 --> 00:38:03.380
I actually don't know how to do long division anymore.
00:38:03.380 --> 00:38:05.889
Yeah, I forgot.
00:38:05.889 --> 00:38:06.780
It's been too long.
00:38:07.610 --> 00:38:08.059
Oh, damn.
00:38:08.929 --> 00:38:15.610
Well, we will dive into the mythology that inspired Iron Flame as well as continue our Signet breakdown from last episode of 4th Wing.
00:38:15.869 --> 00:38:18.579
Feel free to skip ahead to our mini series if you feel like you're already an expert.
00:38:19.764 --> 00:38:26.034
Yes, so we're not going to dig into any mythology today, especially since this is such a long intro chapter where we're getting the hang of things.
00:38:26.045 --> 00:38:28.315
There's not really a lot of mythology that we could talk about here.
00:38:28.704 --> 00:38:29.695
So we're not going to do that.
00:38:29.695 --> 00:38:31.824
And also the segments will take us a while to get through.
00:38:31.855 --> 00:38:39.905
That's why we had to split in between our last episode of fourth wing and our first episode of iron flame because there's so many segments and we have a lot to say about them.
00:38:40.184 --> 00:38:42.804
So we're just going to focus on that for our myths and magic today.
00:38:43.105 --> 00:38:45.735
And then next episode, we'll get back into our mythology.
00:38:46.434 --> 00:38:51.085
We're gonna continue our discussion on documented signets and what we know about them.
00:38:51.405 --> 00:39:00.885
object summoning, we know that Rhiannon has the signet and we are not sure yet how much Rhi will be able to accomplish with the signet, but we know that she can pull things through walls.
00:39:01.244 --> 00:39:08.155
And I am wondering if she'll be able to summon something she has never seen before or summon something as large as a person who has fallen off their dragon.
00:39:08.804 --> 00:39:11.445
Or how far away she can summon things.
00:39:11.815 --> 00:39:15.025
This potentially, this could, I put those two words together.
00:39:15.074 --> 00:39:15.744
Did you hear me?
00:39:16.454 --> 00:39:16.605
Yeah.
00:39:18.840 --> 00:39:27.389
This could potentially be interesting with Quinn's astral projection if she were to project into a distant room and describe what Reese needs to summon without her seeing it.
00:39:27.389 --> 00:39:28.889
Can't wait to see her powers grow.
00:39:29.800 --> 00:39:35.099
Next we're gonna talk about, uh, retro, retro cogni, God dammit.
00:39:35.250 --> 00:39:43.869
Retro, retro, retro, right, bro, retro cognition, which we know is Dane Atos.
00:39:44.760 --> 00:39:45.199
Sickname.
00:39:45.389 --> 00:39:56.110
This is the ability I can tell when you're gonna struggle over a word cause you just have this look in your face where you pause for a second and you're like Well, I paused that time cause I said dang a toes.
00:39:56.170 --> 00:39:58.139
I didn't realize I said dang a toes and I was like, oop.
00:39:58.320 --> 00:39:59.909
I had a second of like, oop.
00:40:00.269 --> 00:40:00.840
Brother, oop.
00:40:02.690 --> 00:40:05.500
This is the ability to read someone's memories through touch.
00:40:05.500 --> 00:40:08.630
It is unknown how recent I'm getting major PTSD from this sickname.
00:40:08.630 --> 00:40:08.900
I'm sorry.
00:40:09.110 --> 00:40:11.090
It is Oh my god.
00:40:13.014 --> 00:40:15.135
I'm just thinking of the shit he's done in the past book.
00:40:15.574 --> 00:40:18.864
It is unknown how recent the memories have to be for them to be read.
00:40:18.885 --> 00:40:23.585
In certain cases, the person whose memories are being viewed have a little control, over what the person sees.
00:40:23.585 --> 00:40:26.445
And we know this from the scene where he's interrogating Violet.
00:40:26.445 --> 00:40:30.114
Next we have Shadow Wielding, which is Danny Ryerson.
00:40:30.414 --> 00:40:34.284
They're incredibly rare and highly coveted battle sickness.
00:40:35.375 --> 00:40:35.655
Coveted.
00:40:35.655 --> 00:40:39.480
S s s s s s s s s s s s c c c c c coveted?
00:40:40.780 --> 00:40:41.269
Yeah, Coveted.
00:40:42.019 --> 00:40:42.449
Coveted.
00:40:43.949 --> 00:40:45.210
Coveted has two Ts?
00:40:46.869 --> 00:40:49.409
I don't even know if Coveted is a word, I'm gonna be honest.
00:40:50.469 --> 00:40:51.289
Never heard of that one.
00:40:52.570 --> 00:40:54.800
This should be called the mispronouncing shit podcast.
00:40:55.639 --> 00:40:57.980
It's always when I get to the mythology section, I'm like, hmm.
00:40:58.500 --> 00:41:02.545
Oh god, it's the most notorious section for mispronouncing shit.
00:41:04.574 --> 00:41:16.425
Well, this signet is this incredibly rare and highly coveted battle signet and it's the ability to wield existing shadows It can black out large areas and manipulate objects within the shadows.
00:41:16.835 --> 00:41:22.264
it can also be used as a dragon lasso, as we saw in the resin scene.
00:41:23.864 --> 00:41:26.215
It can break a fall from great heights.
00:41:26.454 --> 00:41:32.005
Historically used to disorient entire drifts of griffins or take them down depending on the strength of the signet.
00:41:32.074 --> 00:41:35.704
And we also saw this when she was fighting the Venon and he made it really dark.
00:41:36.034 --> 00:41:42.025
To even the plan feel, this isn't it really reflects Zayden's secretive side of who he really is.
00:41:43.494 --> 00:41:47.304
Next is siphoning, which we know is Naolan and Sloane.
00:41:47.335 --> 00:41:56.255
This is a significant signet, which is the ability to absorb power from various other sources, including dragons and other riders to use or redistribute among a riot.
00:41:56.614 --> 00:42:00.094
It's definitely a useful signet to have on the battlefield.
00:42:00.795 --> 00:42:03.744
In my mind, this is one of the most badass signets.
00:42:04.894 --> 00:42:05.454
I don't know why.
00:42:05.505 --> 00:42:11.974
I just feel like that would be really cool if you have the power, like, control the power on a battlefield.
00:42:12.025 --> 00:42:12.974
who gets more?
00:42:12.974 --> 00:42:13.914
And I don't know.
00:42:13.925 --> 00:42:14.224
It's cool.
00:42:14.485 --> 00:42:15.514
I feel like that would be really cool.
00:42:15.625 --> 00:42:19.735
This signet is also very similar to the power of the Benin.
00:42:21.284 --> 00:42:21.684
Mmm.
00:42:22.054 --> 00:42:22.335
Yeah.
00:42:22.364 --> 00:42:22.875
Yeah.
00:42:23.195 --> 00:42:30.255
Well, Naomi, I think that not coming for you yet.
00:42:30.264 --> 00:42:32.045
Sloan, but maybe I'm just kidding.
00:42:32.295 --> 00:42:33.704
I think she'll be like, okay.
00:42:33.704 --> 00:42:37.235
So, you know, like a math, how to the same thing, counsel each other out.
00:42:37.735 --> 00:42:38.034
Yeah.
00:42:38.065 --> 00:42:38.324
Yeah.
00:42:38.364 --> 00:42:39.625
I feel like this is kind of it.
00:42:39.675 --> 00:42:43.974
If Naomi is the Benin, then Sloan is the one that could come in and Cancel that out.
00:42:44.025 --> 00:42:44.315
I don't know.
00:42:45.045 --> 00:42:46.635
I love the girl math.
00:42:46.635 --> 00:42:47.275
What's happening?
00:42:48.684 --> 00:42:53.304
Who thought we were going to talk about math twice in this episode?
00:42:55.284 --> 00:42:59.675
Okay, size changes the ability to make bigger things smaller or small things bigger.
00:42:59.844 --> 00:43:02.204
Wink, wink.
00:43:02.204 --> 00:43:07.965
Right, sound seekers, the ability to hear sounds from across far distances, even miles apart.
00:43:07.965 --> 00:43:10.380
Oh, that's a lame signet.
00:43:12.141 --> 00:43:32.510
I mean, I mean, yes and no, like it is cool, but in there, I feel like I'd rather have that signet than, farsight maybe, I don't know, I don't know, I don't know that just kind of the sound seeker also reminds me of vampire diaries because they can hear things from far away.
00:43:33.490 --> 00:43:36.650
Oh my God.
00:43:39.081 --> 00:43:43.411
if we ever record an episode and you don't mention vampire diaries, I need to take you to the hospital.
00:43:43.420 --> 00:43:45.150
That was actually my first time.
00:43:45.436 --> 00:43:47.206
This episode we've been thinking of vampire diaries.
00:43:50.076 --> 00:43:59.085
All right, so the next segment we want to talk about is storm wielding, which is Mama Soringale's signet, and it's the ability to wield the weather and seems to be somewhat connected to the wielder's emotions.
00:43:59.596 --> 00:44:08.045
A truth sayer, so in the interrogation scene with Barish, he brings in Nora, who is a truth sayer, and this is the rare ability to detect whether or not someone is lying.
00:44:08.306 --> 00:44:22.188
And They're very similar to intenzics, but somehow they're allowed to live and some truth sayers detect lies through bodily functions, which is kind of weird Like what's weird that your signet would connect to observing other bodily Functions.
00:44:22.188 --> 00:44:24.835
Wait, what bodily functions?
00:44:24.835 --> 00:44:25.565
Like peeing?
00:44:27.065 --> 00:44:31.942
No, You know, when you take a polygraph and it's observing, your heartbeat, and your blood pressure, I don't know.
00:44:31.942 --> 00:44:32.335
Oh, you know what?
00:44:32.335 --> 00:44:32.746
Don't even.
00:44:34.826 --> 00:44:34.996
Heh.
00:44:35.275 --> 00:44:35.476
Heh.
00:44:38.476 --> 00:44:44.286
What I thought, I don't know why, the first thing that came to my mind when you said bodily functions was to go to the bathroom, I don't know.
00:44:45.420 --> 00:44:51.891
I mean, I guess it is the first thing that comes to mind for me as well, some people also speculate if this will be Violet's second signet.
00:44:51.911 --> 00:44:56.610
And I can see the reasoning here since Violet is someone who needs knowledge and she needs the truth.
00:44:57.130 --> 00:44:59.820
That could definitely be a signet that reflects who she is at her core.
00:45:00.050 --> 00:45:05.121
So we will dig into this a little bit as our Iron Flame episodes continue.
00:45:05.121 --> 00:45:10.231
And we may even have a Violet's second signet theories.
00:45:10.260 --> 00:45:13.291
So stay tuned, we may get into the truth sing theory.
00:45:13.771 --> 00:45:17.201
underwater breathing, pretty self explanatory, and this is heat and signet.
00:45:17.400 --> 00:45:19.150
seems pretty useless, I'm not gonna lie.
00:45:21.351 --> 00:45:23.201
When would, when would they ever use this?
00:45:23.550 --> 00:45:23.931
I don't know.
00:45:25.065 --> 00:45:25.295
I don't know.
00:45:25.306 --> 00:45:26.096
It's very lame.
00:45:26.516 --> 00:45:27.106
It's very lame.
00:45:27.115 --> 00:45:27.516
Yeah.
00:45:28.735 --> 00:45:36.085
Okay, Ward Weaver Signet is something Nadine had before she died, and it's the ability to unweave wards and possibly do more.
00:45:36.106 --> 00:45:40.286
We really don't know much about it, but we know she's dead now, so maybe it won't matter.
00:45:40.295 --> 00:45:40.655
That really sucks.
00:45:40.865 --> 00:45:41.746
And weakness.
00:45:41.746 --> 00:45:42.025
We need her.
00:45:42.306 --> 00:45:42.956
I know.
00:45:43.496 --> 00:45:44.945
She's like, I am Violet.
00:45:45.246 --> 00:45:45.885
Bam, you're dead.
00:45:48.106 --> 00:45:49.960
Bad time to die.
00:45:50.590 --> 00:45:51.760
Commit identity theft.
00:45:51.760 --> 00:45:57.471
Anyways, weakness detection is Burton Ish's, signe and God, his name sucks.
00:45:57.740 --> 00:46:14.271
Burton bur butt, Burt Face, buttface Burton Verish, or as I like call him major pain in my ass, He has the signe that has the ability to look at someone with their mental shields down and find out what their greatest weaknesses.
00:46:14.661 --> 00:46:19.010
And this is a very insidious signe and it's makes sense considering he's known for.
00:46:19.235 --> 00:46:20.476
interrogations and torture.
00:46:21.755 --> 00:46:25.295
Next we're going to mention characters with unknown signets at this point.
00:46:25.346 --> 00:46:27.646
So some of them are more important than others.
00:46:27.675 --> 00:46:31.356
Caroline Ashton, we don't know her signet and she's Jack's bestie.
00:46:31.806 --> 00:46:34.146
Colonel Atos, we also don't know his signet.
00:46:34.525 --> 00:46:36.385
Garrick Tavis, we don't know his signet.
00:46:36.416 --> 00:46:38.556
I feel like that's kind of pointed, like what is it?
00:46:38.800 --> 00:46:40.460
Because he's pretty important to our story.
00:46:40.831 --> 00:46:46.190
We don't know Professor Devera, Professor Amaterios, or Professor Grady's signet as well.
00:46:46.190 --> 00:46:48.121
I'm not sure if they're going to be important in the future.
00:46:48.411 --> 00:46:51.670
And then obviously, Violet Sorengale, we do not know her second signet.
00:46:51.670 --> 00:46:53.570
And boy oh boy, I cannot wait to talk about this.
00:46:54.141 --> 00:46:55.030
And we will very soon.
00:46:55.411 --> 00:46:58.061
Surprisingly, not in this episode, but probably next one.
00:46:58.210 --> 00:46:58.471
Yeah.
00:46:59.621 --> 00:47:06.541
And then lastly, so key characters awaiting manifestation of a signet is Arc Greycastle, King Tari's son.
00:47:06.860 --> 00:47:16.291
this is especially notable since he will likely have some role to play in the upcoming plot since he is a member of Navarre royalty and someone that actually believes in the revolution and hates what his father is doing.
00:47:16.291 --> 00:47:20.610
And his connection to Violet will make him a reoccurring character unless he dies, obviously.
00:47:20.670 --> 00:47:24.811
And I am thinking he will likely manifest a really strong and significant signate.
00:47:25.391 --> 00:47:29.771
Later on in these episodes, I do wanna talk about theories on what his signate may be.
00:47:29.771 --> 00:47:38.621
And I actually have an idea that it could be a distance wielder because distance wielding has been mentioned a few times and we don't know anyone else that has a signe.
00:47:38.896 --> 00:47:59.965
There's again theories that that might be Violet's second signet but that doesn't really make sense to me so I feel like maybe Aric could have it or possibly if Violet isn't a truth sayer maybe Aric will since it's core to who he is like he doesn't want to continue the lies of his father and he wants to help perpetuate the truth so maybe he could be a truth sayer I don't know but I feel like his signet is going to be important.
00:47:59.965 --> 00:48:00.365
Same.
00:48:01.706 --> 00:48:02.315
Yeah.
00:48:03.365 --> 00:48:04.835
All right, moving on.
00:48:05.275 --> 00:48:10.425
Time to head to the flight field where every week Kenna and I will do two to three mini series unique to our podcast.
00:48:10.485 --> 00:48:11.646
They won't be the same every week.
00:48:11.646 --> 00:48:13.255
So keep tuning in for all the fun.
00:48:13.675 --> 00:48:18.896
Today we're going to talk about Zayden and Violet's character development and we're going to talk about Zodiac signs.
00:48:20.056 --> 00:48:20.436
Yes.
00:48:21.445 --> 00:48:21.795
Yeah.
00:48:23.396 --> 00:48:23.925
All right.
00:48:24.056 --> 00:48:30.476
I am going to talk about Violet's character development from where we started this and where we are now.
00:48:30.806 --> 00:48:38.175
And I really just love, especially on a reread, seeing our FMC embrace the growth she has made over the past week because it is a lot.
00:48:38.735 --> 00:48:48.846
And one quote that stuck with me, really early in Iron Flame, quote, each head in the room turns toward us and I fight the instinct to retreat as almost every set of eyes narrows on me.
00:48:49.141 --> 00:48:49.860
Who do they see?
00:48:49.891 --> 00:48:51.661
Lilith's daughter or Brennan's sister?
00:48:51.931 --> 00:48:54.840
I lift my chin because I'm both and I feel like neither.
00:48:55.170 --> 00:49:03.550
This really sums up her coming into her own identity even though she's not all the way there yet, but she's so much more confident than she was a year ago.
00:49:03.601 --> 00:49:10.451
And I just feel like this quote really captures how much she's grown and how much she's changed from what she went across the parapet.
00:49:11.070 --> 00:49:16.860
And her growth is shown in ways like how she sets boundaries for Dane now and, you know.
00:49:17.070 --> 00:49:23.760
Handles his ass and she also has confidence in speaking up to authority, like the council.
00:49:23.780 --> 00:49:27.550
She wasn't afraid to go in there and be like, try speaking to me, not about me.
00:49:27.911 --> 00:49:30.791
And then Barish and Ato, she's not afraid to snap back at them.
00:49:30.800 --> 00:49:34.710
of course she's respectful still, but she's confident to correct them sometimes.
00:49:34.721 --> 00:49:35.621
And I just love that.
00:49:36.030 --> 00:49:39.271
And she's also confident enough now to tell selective truth.
00:49:39.271 --> 00:49:51.411
She stood up in front of the entire Formation at graduation ceremony and just boss that shit and she's also just really unfazed by danger Well, she still is retaining her compassionate side.
00:49:51.411 --> 00:50:05.400
I just really love how she didn't lose parts of who she is like her compassion But she is just a completely different person than she was from book one And in book one she viewed herself as weak and tried to stay under the radar and now it's just complete opposite.
00:50:05.402 --> 00:50:07.735
Zayden.
00:50:07.735 --> 00:50:13.231
Well, our MMC's growth is not as prominent.
00:50:13.240 --> 00:50:15.650
There's definitely some things they want to acknowledge.
00:50:16.161 --> 00:50:19.246
I think it took a lot for him to let down his emotional boundaries.
00:50:19.255 --> 00:50:34.036
Throughout fourth wing and allow for a loss of control at times and knowing everything we know about him and the years of hardship and secrets and mistrust and resentment that he's been harboring him, being able to let Violet in and trust her as much as he can.
00:50:34.666 --> 00:50:35.925
It speaks volumes.
00:50:35.956 --> 00:50:46.315
And the keystone of his growth is letting grow of his iron grip on his resentment and his control of everything around him, which I'm sure was very scary to him since he's probably been.
00:50:46.561 --> 00:50:58.251
The Zayden we initially met in book one for years and years, I do think being with Violet is making him embrace a more compassionate side, but at the end of the day I think he will always still be the ruthless shadow daddy we know and love.
00:50:58.570 --> 00:50:59.030
Yes.
00:50:59.771 --> 00:51:06.621
Oh, I want to start with Zayden, just because I want to save Violet for last because she's a little bit more.
00:51:07.661 --> 00:51:16.721
Yeah, so we know, like Kenneth said at first, Zayden came off as very mysterious and controlled and over time this has changed drastically.
00:51:16.971 --> 00:51:19.971
And I do think that Violet played a huge role in his development too.
00:51:19.981 --> 00:51:23.661
And I love that our, FMC is almost the sole reason that our FMC is here.
00:51:23.762 --> 00:51:31.461
MMC has even had character development because with Violet, he would just be this boring, mysterious guy that doesn't talk and have all these secrets.
00:51:31.461 --> 00:51:32.461
And we would, yeah.
00:51:33.532 --> 00:51:41.711
But, we know that he was a man of many secrets and it was really hard to understand him at first, but the more Violet interacted with him, the more glimpses of his character we got.
00:51:41.731 --> 00:51:44.351
And he went from dark and broody to light and sexy.
00:51:44.402 --> 00:51:47.871
And like Kena said, he really has started to lose his grip on his control.
00:51:47.871 --> 00:51:48.771
Especially around Violet.
00:51:50.132 --> 00:51:52.322
Now, Violet Sorengale.
00:51:52.847 --> 00:51:56.847
Though I love dual POV and I really wish that we can get Zayden's point of view.
00:51:56.896 --> 00:51:59.577
I also love the fact that this book is only Violet's point of view.
00:51:59.577 --> 00:52:01.876
And I think this makes her development a lot more personal.
00:52:02.126 --> 00:52:09.047
from chapter one of fourth wing, we heard what people thought about her, ability to survive, over and over and over again, she was viewed as weak and fragile.
00:52:09.407 --> 00:52:15.626
And she even started to believe that herself, but the more she achieved within the quadrant, the more she started to believe in herself and became more confident.
00:52:15.806 --> 00:52:19.806
And I love this because she never let herself down or the worst of others.
00:52:19.952 --> 00:52:21.891
overpower her will or influence her to quit.
00:52:22.211 --> 00:52:26.061
And if anything, this was encouragement for her to keep pushing and prove everybody wrong.
00:52:26.072 --> 00:52:33.052
I think this was very personal, especially for me, because I feel like other people doubt me, it just makes me want to go 10 times harder, like prove them wrong.
00:52:33.612 --> 00:52:34.012
All right.
00:52:34.092 --> 00:52:39.771
So next we're going to get into the Zodiac and what astrology signs that we think our characters are.
00:52:39.922 --> 00:52:44.972
And you're going to be hating on me in about two minutes, but just remember, I love you.
00:52:45.282 --> 00:52:45.771
I love you too.
00:52:47.942 --> 00:52:48.262
okay.
00:52:48.271 --> 00:52:55.652
Violet, I think is a Cancer and this is cheating a little because the books actually tells us this is what correlates to her birthday.
00:52:55.681 --> 00:52:56.302
And.
00:52:56.532 --> 00:53:03.351
You know, it's cheating, I guess, but if the boot fits, so she loves super hard and is very protective of those she loves.
00:53:03.472 --> 00:53:05.322
And that's a keystone of cancer.
00:53:05.322 --> 00:53:06.342
So it fits.
00:53:06.692 --> 00:53:09.942
I desperately wanted her to be a Virgo like me, but sadly, no.
00:53:09.952 --> 00:53:15.452
Although I do feel like the intellect associated with Virgos is definitely a fit for her and the need for knowledge.
00:53:15.961 --> 00:53:17.811
Zayden, I think is a Scorpio.
00:53:18.036 --> 00:53:19.547
Yeah, this man is not a Pisces.
00:53:19.577 --> 00:53:22.376
That's what his sign would be according to his birthday in the book.
00:53:22.467 --> 00:53:24.516
But that's, no, absolutely not.
00:53:24.976 --> 00:53:25.717
He's passionate.
00:53:26.016 --> 00:53:26.887
Very, very passionate.
00:53:28.896 --> 00:53:32.867
He's mysterious, loyal to who he loves, intuitive and strategic.
00:53:33.047 --> 00:53:33.336
Yep.
00:53:33.617 --> 00:53:34.766
That sums up our wing leader.
00:53:35.367 --> 00:53:38.907
Now Dane I think he's a Capricorn.
00:53:39.856 --> 00:53:40.606
I'm laughing.
00:53:40.606 --> 00:53:41.847
Which is Mackenzie's sign.
00:53:41.856 --> 00:53:43.987
I'm laughing because I put him as a Virgo.
00:53:48.197 --> 00:53:49.586
It was so unintentional.
00:53:49.586 --> 00:53:53.157
I didn't even make the connection until you just said you were a Virgo.
00:53:53.157 --> 00:53:58.007
I was literally researching Zodiac and I was like nothing fits except for Capricorn or Dane.
00:53:58.027 --> 00:53:58.356
Okay?
00:54:00.512 --> 00:54:03.452
But anyways, yeah, don't kill me, but I think he's a Capricorn.
00:54:04.032 --> 00:54:07.871
So, some stereotypes associated with Capricorns led me to believe this.
00:54:07.871 --> 00:54:11.351
He's very firm in what he believes and struggles when the right thing isn't clear.
00:54:11.641 --> 00:54:18.362
He's practical, a control freak, and ambitious, which are all, again, traits associated with male Capricorns.
00:54:18.681 --> 00:54:21.021
And he really values his work ethic, so yeah.
00:54:22.012 --> 00:54:22.351
Yeah.
00:54:22.777 --> 00:54:23.347
I'm sorry, buddy.
00:54:25.737 --> 00:54:27.447
Rhiannon, I think is a Taurus.
00:54:27.487 --> 00:54:31.177
She is super grounded and emotionally even throughout the books.
00:54:31.527 --> 00:54:36.297
And that makes her a very dependable and consistent friend for Violet, who definitely needs that in her life.
00:54:36.626 --> 00:54:42.666
And she's also just an independent woman who don't need no man or woman in her case, but I feel like Taurus fits her perfectly.
00:54:43.157 --> 00:54:46.786
And Riddick, I had to choose a sign for one of my favorite comedians.
00:54:48.036 --> 00:54:50.206
And I chose Gemini and.
00:54:50.652 --> 00:55:00.802
I chose this because of traits associated with male Geminis, that he's social, quick witted, charming, and playful, and we know Riddick never takes anything serious, and he's always making everyone laugh, so.
00:55:01.271 --> 00:55:01.601
Yes.
00:55:01.672 --> 00:55:01.911
Yes.
00:55:01.931 --> 00:55:02.652
King Slayer.
00:55:03.501 --> 00:55:03.992
All right.
00:55:04.532 --> 00:55:08.311
I actually found some very interesting things during like my research.
00:55:08.371 --> 00:55:13.641
I feel like I learn something new every time we do this because I don't know a lot about astrological signs, but I learn new things.
00:55:13.952 --> 00:55:18.902
So I think that Zayden is an Aries, cause like Kanan said, I don't think that he was a Pisces.
00:55:19.452 --> 00:55:20.362
I didn't think he was a Pisces.
00:55:20.362 --> 00:55:21.842
So I looked up the dates for end of March and it.
00:55:22.202 --> 00:55:35.742
Correlates with Aries and Aries are fire signs and they're naturally playful, which I think Zayden, like once he let's go and he, drops those barriers, he is naturally playful and he's always smirking and yeah, he's very adventurous.
00:55:35.742 --> 00:55:37.041
I don't think he's going to venture at all.
00:55:37.041 --> 00:55:38.931
Like he's really running headfirst into a fire.
00:55:39.172 --> 00:55:39.751
It's just like, okay.
00:55:40.121 --> 00:55:41.911
He has a, they have bad tempers.
00:55:42.166 --> 00:55:48.317
Which I also feel like Zayden killing half a dozen people with the snap of a finger because they're trying to get to his girl.
00:55:48.327 --> 00:55:49.376
It's just proof of that.
00:55:50.496 --> 00:55:54.567
They're very passionate and very forward in the bedroom, which we all know is Zayden.
00:55:54.567 --> 00:55:57.266
True dat.
00:55:58.197 --> 00:55:59.516
Or in the throne room.
00:56:00.402 --> 00:56:11.322
Yeah, and interestingly enough, Onyx is one of the Aries crystals, which I found very interesting.
00:56:11.422 --> 00:56:12.242
I did not know that.
00:56:12.422 --> 00:56:12.802
That's cool.
00:56:13.161 --> 00:56:16.172
And the Emperor is one of their tarot cards.
00:56:18.072 --> 00:56:21.617
Well, he's basically the Emperor of Arisha.
00:56:21.617 --> 00:56:23.552
All right.
00:56:23.581 --> 00:56:25.322
Now, Violet, I think she's a Cancer.
00:56:25.322 --> 00:56:28.592
And I agree with Kena, and I'm also cheating, because the book literally tells us.
00:56:29.501 --> 00:56:31.981
But during my research, I found something interesting.
00:56:31.992 --> 00:56:34.831
Cancers in Aries are actually incompatible.
00:56:34.911 --> 00:56:37.811
And Aries often hurt Cancers with their natural traits.
00:56:38.422 --> 00:56:39.331
Hmmmm.
00:56:40.222 --> 00:56:47.260
Ha ha ha! Their incompatibility could also be why Zayden often repeats that Violet would be the death to him throughout the book.
00:56:47.751 --> 00:56:48.701
Very interesting.
00:56:48.710 --> 00:56:54.260
And if Rebecca based these also off of their astrological signs, that'd be so cool.
00:56:54.391 --> 00:56:55.650
That they fit so well.
00:56:55.652 --> 00:56:59.911
maybe she's really into astrology because she does mention their birthdays specifically.
00:56:59.961 --> 00:57:00.431
Yeah.
00:57:00.817 --> 00:57:05.507
I literally feel like in no book have we really gotten a specific birthday.
00:57:05.567 --> 00:57:10.027
Like I know we'll have some times where like, oh it's my birthday, but I don't think we ever get the month or the date.
00:57:10.666 --> 00:57:13.967
And we all know that Rebecca Yarrow writes with intention.
00:57:14.356 --> 00:57:17.137
I think that her highlighting these months is really important.
00:57:17.146 --> 00:57:20.536
And the fact that these lined up so perfectly, it's just kind of weird.
00:57:20.947 --> 00:57:21.487
I don't know.
00:57:21.516 --> 00:57:22.177
It's interesting.
00:57:22.507 --> 00:57:22.717
Yeah.
00:57:22.717 --> 00:57:27.666
So Rhiannon, I also agree with Kanan on Rhiannon.
00:57:27.887 --> 00:57:28.927
My sister is a Taurus.
00:57:28.967 --> 00:57:33.336
And if my sister could be related to any character in this book, it would definitely be Rhiannon.
00:57:33.336 --> 00:57:34.106
they have the same.
00:57:34.106 --> 00:57:36.297
Personalities, but yeah, I definitely agree with Cain on that one.
00:57:36.297 --> 00:57:37.597
So I don't need to elaborate.
00:57:38.036 --> 00:57:43.646
Dane, unintentionally, I put him as a Virgo, not thinking of Cain as a Zodiac sign.
00:57:45.436 --> 00:57:50.887
I love how we gave each other, we both put Dane as each other's Zodiac signs.
00:57:51.117 --> 00:57:56.257
Well, Virgos and Capricorns have similar personality traits, which is probably why we're besties.
00:57:57.356 --> 00:57:58.356
Oh, well, there you go.
00:57:58.396 --> 00:57:59.226
There's a bright side to everything.
00:58:01.161 --> 00:58:03.601
Virgos are also very hardworking.
00:58:03.612 --> 00:58:07.141
They play a very close attention to detail and they're very careful about what they do.
00:58:07.141 --> 00:58:10.442
And this could be why Dane has the thing that he's, that he has.
00:58:10.922 --> 00:58:19.802
his attention to detail could be why he can see people's memories and get certain details and be a war weapon in interrogation.
00:58:20.101 --> 00:58:24.862
there are natural leaders and very organized and tend to get stuck in the details, wanting everything to be perfect.
00:58:24.862 --> 00:58:25.021
Dyschordic.
00:58:26.081 --> 00:58:27.521
Codex Levin son of a gun.
00:58:27.552 --> 00:58:29.422
This is probably why he's like that.
00:58:30.012 --> 00:58:33.211
And then one of their flaws is their ability to be over considerate.
00:58:33.492 --> 00:58:38.681
Hmm, probably his constant dragging in the mud with Violet.
00:58:38.911 --> 00:58:41.552
With him trying to protect her, quote unquote.
00:58:42.172 --> 00:58:43.931
Well, I definitely see why you would put Dane as a Virgo.
00:58:43.931 --> 00:58:44.811
I feel like that makes sense.
00:58:44.911 --> 00:58:51.391
And I can't confirm all those are Virgo traits because it's very much me, even though I don't like that I'm putting me and Dane in the same box.
00:58:51.972 --> 00:58:54.041
I promise I was not taking a view when I wrote this.
00:58:55.552 --> 00:58:57.561
He's definitely the worst type of Virgo.
00:58:57.711 --> 00:58:58.371
Yeah, he is.
00:58:58.422 --> 00:59:06.112
I feel like everybody's different and yes, we all have the same general personality traits when it comes to the astrological signs.
00:59:06.461 --> 00:59:09.851
but I feel like it's how their character builds off those character traits.
00:59:10.201 --> 00:59:15.971
So I don't think that just because you think he's a Capricorn, I think he's a Virgo that that's like exactly how we are.
00:59:15.971 --> 00:59:22.110
Cause we're different types of Capricorns and we're also female and female and male signs are totally different.
00:59:22.581 --> 00:59:23.811
They're a little bit more aggressive.
00:59:25.121 --> 00:59:32.760
I definitely, that helped me when I was trying to figure out who's, who was what sign as I started looking up female and male Differences between each side.
00:59:32.760 --> 00:59:34.570
I was like, okay, that makes me feel better.
00:59:35.891 --> 00:59:38.641
That's why I emphasize these are male Capricorn traits.
00:59:39.530 --> 00:59:43.920
And lastly, I'm going to talk about Liam because he's one of my favorite side characters.
00:59:44.190 --> 00:59:48.210
I think that he's a Sagittarius because Liam is very easygoing, but also funny.
00:59:48.431 --> 00:59:52.670
I feel like he was more so like a playboy, even though he was phalangistinian, he never really made his move.
00:59:52.670 --> 00:59:53.780
He was just like flirting with her.
00:59:53.780 --> 00:59:55.641
And I feel like that's kind of Sagittarius too.
00:59:56.001 --> 00:59:58.231
And sometimes they can promise more than they can deliver.
00:59:59.231 --> 01:00:00.141
And they are very generous.
01:00:02.800 --> 01:00:06.005
Are you talking about like he promised to protect Violet forever and then he was like, and then he died.
01:00:06.010 --> 01:00:06.420
Come do.
01:00:06.420 --> 01:00:06.701
Yeah.
01:00:08.371 --> 01:00:08.661
Damn.
01:00:08.661 --> 01:00:10.036
You're a little over ambitious there.
01:00:11.246 --> 01:00:12.565
Calling out a dead man, bro.
01:00:12.985 --> 01:00:13.496
I'm sorry.
01:00:13.496 --> 01:00:14.456
It was the perfect setup.
01:00:15.936 --> 01:00:16.356
It was.
01:00:17.076 --> 01:00:18.036
I would've done the same thing.
01:00:18.346 --> 01:00:20.715
Before we close our episode today, it's time to spar.
01:00:20.746 --> 01:00:24.246
Each week, Mackenzie and I will give each other and our listeners two trivia questions.
01:00:24.246 --> 01:00:27.835
At the end of our Iron Flame coverage, we will tally up who has the most points between hosts.
01:00:28.166 --> 01:00:32.135
Loser will have to do something embarrassing or funny that the winner or you guys fans come up with.
01:00:32.146 --> 01:00:35.545
So please let us know your feedback, ideas, and participation in the section.
01:00:36.025 --> 01:00:38.005
And go check out our social media today.
01:00:38.005 --> 01:00:43.221
We will be posting the challenge for whoever lost fourth wing trial by trivia.
01:00:43.621 --> 01:00:47.811
We actually haven't finished filming the last half of that episode, weirdly, because my computer glitched.
01:00:47.820 --> 01:00:53.481
So we actually don't know who won yet, but we will be posting whoever lost and their consequence and it should be pretty iconic.
01:00:53.681 --> 01:00:56.090
So go look at our social media at shadow and starlight pods.
01:00:56.090 --> 01:00:56.621
All right.
01:00:56.920 --> 01:00:58.521
My first question is.
01:00:59.266 --> 01:01:05.755
How many years ago did the first six in Dragons come together to protect their people from Benin 600?
01:01:06.025 --> 01:01:09.195
Yeah, I kind of figured you would get that one because it was in your, synopsis.
01:01:12.311 --> 01:01:12.601
Okay.
01:01:13.101 --> 01:01:14.085
You scroll up, Brad.
01:01:14.175 --> 01:01:14.536
Yeah.
01:01:15.615 --> 01:01:16.635
Can't be too careful with you.
01:01:17.311 --> 01:01:17.590
What?
01:01:17.661 --> 01:01:18.061
Alright.
01:01:18.070 --> 01:01:27.101
How many How many prisoners died during Barish's interrogations before he was eventually reassigned to Bazgaya?
01:01:27.260 --> 01:01:27.880
Three.
01:01:29.150 --> 01:01:29.661
Yes.
01:01:29.731 --> 01:01:30.110
Damn.
01:01:30.311 --> 01:01:30.650
Okay.
01:01:30.771 --> 01:01:31.181
I see you.
01:01:31.590 --> 01:01:33.831
I only know that because I almost made that one of your questions.
01:01:34.710 --> 01:01:35.201
Damn.
01:01:36.201 --> 01:01:36.601
Shit.
01:01:38.331 --> 01:01:40.371
I feel like my next question is easy too, goddammit.
01:01:40.530 --> 01:01:42.150
I feel like my question is probably easy.
01:01:42.181 --> 01:01:42.550
Okay.
01:01:42.621 --> 01:01:46.460
How many votes does the assembly need to make a decision?
01:01:46.461 --> 01:01:52.771
Either four or five.
01:01:54.561 --> 01:01:55.150
Pick one, bro.
01:01:58.251 --> 01:01:59.681
Three to five is my final answer.
01:02:00.871 --> 01:02:02.110
Pick one, it's not three.
01:02:02.911 --> 01:02:03.751
Definitely not three.
01:02:06.130 --> 01:02:06.690
Five.
01:02:08.311 --> 01:02:10.130
Yes! Oh my god, I almost went with four.
01:02:10.201 --> 01:02:10.860
That was close.
01:02:12.481 --> 01:02:16.311
All right, who on the Oration Council has a streak of silver hair?
01:02:16.981 --> 01:02:17.530
Searing.
01:02:18.751 --> 01:02:22.391
I almost made that your question too, but I remember that you were good with names.
01:02:22.391 --> 01:02:23.871
I was like, nah, she's not gonna get that.
01:02:24.655 --> 01:02:26.065
Wow, we just killed that.
01:02:26.065 --> 01:02:29.925
Okay, so this usually never happens, but we both got them right.
01:02:31.115 --> 01:02:33.726
And it's currently tied two to two.
01:02:33.856 --> 01:02:37.885
So yeah, it's gonna be a very exciting trial by trivia for this book.
01:02:38.016 --> 01:02:38.965
So stay tuned.
01:02:39.036 --> 01:02:45.710
I feel like you also messed yourself up too, because We both listened to the dramaticized version while I was there.
01:02:45.940 --> 01:02:47.771
So I was like listening to different things.
01:02:47.771 --> 01:02:49.862
Oh yeah, I literally brought up the silver hair.
01:02:49.862 --> 01:02:50.422
God damn it.
01:02:53.132 --> 01:02:54.382
I need to think this through.
01:02:54.661 --> 01:02:56.251
All right, that's a wrap, folks.
01:02:56.251 --> 01:02:59.641
Thank you so much for tuning in to our coverage of Iron Flame by Rebecca Yaros.
01:02:59.681 --> 01:03:04.556
We're getting so close to the onyx storm and we are so happy you're here with us and can't wait to keep repairing with you.
01:03:05.255 --> 01:03:14.905
Join us next Thursday as we continue our iron flame coverage where we will be covering where we've been going over a chapter 16 through 29 pages 149 through 271.
01:03:15.206 --> 01:03:15.925
Big boy.
01:03:16.206 --> 01:03:18.286
We are reread or it's a refresher memory.
01:03:18.931 --> 01:03:22.351
Yeah, this book is fat.
01:03:22.981 --> 01:03:29.340
I'm wondering how many pages Onyx Storm is going to be because we may need to do six or seven episodes just because there's going to be so much.
01:03:29.411 --> 01:03:30.190
But we'll see.
01:03:30.690 --> 01:03:31.061
All right.
01:03:31.181 --> 01:03:33.860
so yeah, it really does mean the world to us to hear your feedback.
01:03:33.860 --> 01:03:36.490
So please take the time to leave us a review.
01:03:36.490 --> 01:03:42.590
Check out our socials and reach out to us if you want to tell us what you liked, what you didn't, or if you just want to talk about books with either one of us.
01:03:43.021 --> 01:03:43.721
We will love to.
01:03:44.090 --> 01:03:50.701
So make sure to subscribe on YouTube and all major podcast platforms for a freshly baked episode to be delivered directly to you next week.
01:03:51.050 --> 01:03:51.661
Bye friends.
01:03:51.661 --> 01:03:52.971
See you next week.
01:03:53.561 --> 01:03:54.141
Bye friends.
01:03:54.150 --> 01:03:54.860
See you next week.
00:00:24.399 --> 00:00:34.500
Welcome, wonderful listeners, to the Shadow and Starlight podcast, where two friends dive deep into popular fantasy and lore, and much more.
00:00:34.609 --> 00:00:39.109
So buckle your seatbelts for this vial of coaster rides of emotions, magical worlds, and laughs.
00:00:39.130 --> 00:00:39.500
I'm Kenzie.
00:00:40.289 --> 00:00:40.570
I'm Kena.
00:00:41.100 --> 00:00:46.229
And today we're covering chapters 1 through 15 of Iron Flame by Rebecca Yaros.
00:00:46.984 --> 00:00:49.835
First and foremost, please listen carefully to our content warning.
00:00:49.844 --> 00:01:02.704
These are adult books we are covering and neither of us have a filter, so this podcast is definitely rated R and for those 18 Regarding spoilers, if you have not finished the entire Fourth Wing and Iron Flame books, please come back after you do so to listen to the episodes.
00:01:03.064 --> 00:01:13.344
While we are discussing a certain stretch of chapters, we will be doing so with the perspective of what happens in both books for better understanding, to help us dive deeper into the theories, and really appreciate the foreshadowing of Roberta Yaros.
00:01:13.745 --> 00:01:17.525
So going forward, all episodes on our show will contain spoilers for the whole series in question.
00:01:20.030 --> 00:01:26.379
Come back next Thursday, and next Thursday, and next Thursday, and next Thursday, and every Thursday after that for a brand new episode.
00:01:26.450 --> 00:01:30.870
As a taller podcast, we'd love to hear your feedback to better ourselves and expand our book loving community.
00:01:31.150 --> 00:01:36.769
Please feel free to give us reviews, reach out to us on social media, and follow us on TikTok, Instagram, and watch us on YouTube at Shadow and Starlight Pod.
00:01:36.810 --> 00:01:41.159
So I think I fucked up our Onyx Storm countdown for some reason.
00:01:41.159 --> 00:01:50.409
I was like a few days off, but anyways, I've double checked and when this episode releases, we'll be 33 days away from Onyx Storm and I promise you that's right.
00:01:51.609 --> 00:01:57.140
So if I butchered it in the past, I'm sorry, but the most important thing is we're almost 30 days away.
00:01:57.140 --> 00:01:59.230
One month people, it's happening.
00:02:00.640 --> 00:02:07.540
Another exciting announcement is we have officially confirmed our interview with Sarah A Parker, author of When the Moon Hatched it's confirmed for March.
00:02:07.540 --> 00:02:12.620
So we'll let you know when we have an episode release date, but oh my gosh, we're so excited.
00:02:12.620 --> 00:02:18.460
We are planning on covering the second book in the moonfall series when it comes out in 2025 in the fall, I think.
00:02:18.830 --> 00:02:21.990
I know she will be done writing book two by the time we interview her.
00:02:22.110 --> 00:02:25.370
So maybe she'll have something exclusive to share with us.
00:02:25.379 --> 00:02:27.120
read when the moon has to be haven't yet.
00:02:27.120 --> 00:02:30.610
And then keep an eye out for our interview next spring with her.
00:02:31.310 --> 00:02:31.889
Drinking the pot.
00:02:31.889 --> 00:02:34.110
I'm drinking coffee black because I have no creamer.
00:02:34.330 --> 00:02:34.639
Damn.
00:02:35.620 --> 00:02:39.280
I'm drinking a third of a Sprite that I had left from earlier.
00:02:40.349 --> 00:02:45.539
I was going to make me some hot tea, but they cut the water off cause they're working on plumbing today.
00:02:45.620 --> 00:02:48.110
So didn't have any water in my coffee.
00:02:50.729 --> 00:02:52.969
Man, it really is rough out here this morning.
00:02:54.270 --> 00:02:57.120
Alright guys, time to cross the parapet.
00:02:58.389 --> 00:03:04.620
Kena's gonna lead us through her Shadow and Starlight synopsis, aka her unhinged summary of the events in these chapters.
00:03:05.354 --> 00:03:05.875
Yes.
00:03:05.925 --> 00:03:18.616
And let me just preface this by saying the Iron Flame synopses, synopsi, yes, they're going to be super long because we're covering more chapters in a stretch because Iron Flame is a thick book.
00:03:18.616 --> 00:03:19.782
It's a thick book.
00:03:19.782 --> 00:03:20.645
So, just a heads up.
00:03:20.694 --> 00:03:20.830
yeah.
00:03:20.990 --> 00:03:23.180
Buckle your seatbelts, we're about to get into it.
00:03:23.750 --> 00:03:28.500
Iron Flame opens up with Violet munching on some biscuits and staring down her not so dead brother.
00:03:28.780 --> 00:03:33.780
After a quick conversation, he heads to the council meeting, which Violet follows to spy on with the other Marked Ones.
00:03:34.139 --> 00:03:39.680
The leaders of the revolution, Zayden at their head, argue about returning Bazgayeth and what to do with that pesky lightning wielder.
00:03:40.500 --> 00:03:44.750
A far cry from the girl who walked the parapet a year ago, Violet enters the chat and speaks her mind.
00:03:45.199 --> 00:03:48.794
After finally coming to an agreement, it's time It's time for our FMC to get answers.
00:03:49.235 --> 00:03:54.254
Violet debriefs her brother and he attempts to explain the last six years as well as the status of the revolution.
00:03:54.745 --> 00:03:57.235
It's finally dragon time with a big surprise for Violet.
00:03:57.555 --> 00:04:00.995
And Darna is black, fucking huge, and has an even bigger attitude.
00:04:01.335 --> 00:04:05.275
And it's also time for her to take a really long nap, meaning the crew has to head back to Bazgaia.
00:04:05.275 --> 00:04:12.724
Thanks to selective truths from Zayden and Violet, the surviving Athamean riders escape execution, yay, and get to go back to their death college.
00:04:13.034 --> 00:04:22.214
Yay! Father and son Atos both get their asses handed to them from mama and daughter Sorengale, which is oh so satisfying.
00:04:22.665 --> 00:04:26.595
Although I think a swift kick in the balls would have been the cherry on top, but whatever.
00:04:27.045 --> 00:04:34.084
Zayden gets his lieutenant orders and the Iron Squad revels in their first year accomplishment, despite the outrageously underwhelming graduation ceremony.
00:04:34.134 --> 00:04:49.605
Before their next year starts, the second and third years have a mere five days, instead of Some light therapy or taking time to process, you know, the year full of trauma they had, they party in the clerb, aka the gathering hall, celebrating the improbability of their survival thus far.
00:04:49.605 --> 00:04:56.024
The squad chats over drinks, Violet trying to pretend like she didn't have one of the most traumatic experiences of her life and almost die a few days ago.
00:04:56.535 --> 00:05:05.795
As Violet says, she is pleasantly fuddled but not entirely sloshed, which is how I am going to say how drunk I am anytime I have to report to my friends on a night out.
00:05:06.449 --> 00:05:14.740
Her and Zayden start to argue goodbyes, interrupted by father father atos and major pain in my ass bearish imparting some seriously bad news and death threats.
00:05:15.420 --> 00:05:19.899
On the flip side, Violet then gets some good news, Rhi is squad leader this year.
00:05:19.949 --> 00:05:20.529
Go girl.
00:05:20.879 --> 00:05:23.379
And ugh, Dane is unfortunately the wing leader.
00:05:25.560 --> 00:05:29.709
Orientation Day opens up with RSE, aka a class on how to survive torture.
00:05:29.790 --> 00:05:33.480
Bad news for Vi, who has a buttload of information worth torturing her over.
00:05:33.879 --> 00:05:39.470
Frantic after this discovery, she heads to the Archives, determined to get involved to quell the rising panic concerning her reality.
00:05:39.850 --> 00:05:42.600
Meeting Decenia, she requests a tome on the wards.
00:05:43.120 --> 00:05:45.069
On Conscription Day, we get a few surprises.
00:05:45.139 --> 00:05:48.959
One, King Tory's son ran away from Poppy to ride dragons.
00:05:49.290 --> 00:05:53.040
And Sloane absolutely despises Violet, blaming her for Liam's death.
00:05:53.504 --> 00:05:53.995
Ouch.
00:05:54.194 --> 00:05:58.675
Later, Dane offers an olive branch by assigning Sloane to their squad, the least he could do at this point.
00:05:58.754 --> 00:06:01.735
Although if you ask Kenzie, the least he could do is sacrifice himself to save Violet.
00:06:03.584 --> 00:06:04.264
The bare minimum.
00:06:04.444 --> 00:06:05.355
That's the bare minimum.
00:06:05.355 --> 00:06:09.805
Dragons fly in to intimidate the newbies, and just like last year, we got some runners.
00:06:09.995 --> 00:06:16.805
Unlike last year, there's an extra murderous orange dragon that torches the runners, part of third squad including Ciaran and almost Sloane.
00:06:16.870 --> 00:06:18.430
Saved by Violet's quick thinking.
00:06:18.829 --> 00:06:23.129
Just as Solace gets ready to roast again, Daddy Taron answers the chat to protect his rider.
00:06:23.879 --> 00:06:25.879
You do not burn, what is my name?
00:06:27.399 --> 00:06:29.769
I've never seen Lord of the Wings, but I love it.
00:06:29.769 --> 00:06:31.019
I love it.
00:06:31.300 --> 00:06:35.620
Yeah, so for some context listeners, I was um, Gardened.
00:06:36.129 --> 00:06:36.959
Writing this episode.
00:06:36.959 --> 00:06:37.360
Okay.
00:06:37.709 --> 00:06:41.399
And I just randomly put in parentheses, Smeagol voice.
00:06:41.610 --> 00:06:47.709
And I put the Taron quote and yeah, I hope you liked it.
00:06:47.709 --> 00:06:50.629
Plagued by nightmares, Imogen and Violet take up a new hobby.
00:06:50.800 --> 00:06:51.290
Running.
00:06:51.339 --> 00:06:53.939
With the next year in full swing, it's time for assessment day.
00:06:54.329 --> 00:06:59.689
Silly little Sloane, who can't throw a punch to save her life, wants to spar Violet, which Emitteria quickly denies.
00:07:00.050 --> 00:07:08.490
However, this little exchange caught the attention of the sadistic bull of a first year, aka Jack Barlow Jr., when Nadine commits identity theft, she gets her neck snapped.
00:07:09.779 --> 00:07:13.860
After a moment of shock and horror, Violet springs into action to avenge her squadmate.
00:07:13.990 --> 00:07:22.930
Badass as her girl is, she is nearly choked out by a frickin Venon assassin, who should be an O line men for Ohio State football, before giving him a fatal wound.
00:07:23.470 --> 00:07:25.750
To no surprise, Father Father Ato sent him.
00:07:26.259 --> 00:07:28.279
I smell a Venon conspiracy, y'all.
00:07:28.339 --> 00:07:30.500
And I will be getting into it in the theories section.
00:07:31.300 --> 00:07:39.370
After sucking it up through the rest of her classes, concussed and covered in blood because God forbid anybody show any weakness around here, Violet returns to find Zayden in her room.
00:07:39.790 --> 00:07:47.089
The two catch up and dibble and dabble in some arguments paired with some devastating sexual tension until he has to go fulfill his revolution responsibilities.
00:07:47.449 --> 00:07:50.370
On the bright side, he leaves our girl with a love letter.
00:07:50.870 --> 00:07:54.509
Violet is smitten as a kitten the next morning, and Imogen knows exactly why.
00:07:55.149 --> 00:08:01.620
Dissidia comes to deliver another book on the first six until a cadet is dragged out of class for borrowing a particular book from the archives.
00:08:01.709 --> 00:08:03.560
Spoiler alert! He ain't gon make it.
00:08:03.560 --> 00:08:07.600
On the way to the flight field, we learn that Riddick is a navigation god.
00:08:07.610 --> 00:08:12.639
Navarre leadership is redacting Mira's letters to Violet, and Varys stops by to order in Darna's presence.
00:08:12.750 --> 00:08:22.850
Sorry dude, she be nappin Time for Violet to take a weekend getaway to Samara, where we get a tiiiid bit of spice to hold us over until this duo gets over themselves and decides to destroy more furniture.
00:08:23.339 --> 00:08:28.949
On the return flight back, Violet is summoned by Varys for her punishment that is actually just military sanctioned sadistic torture.
00:08:29.300 --> 00:08:35.850
He pushes her to a dangerous cliff of burnout while Karr just stands there, and Tyrion rushes her to the river to cool her scalding body.
00:08:36.049 --> 00:08:41.384
In Sparring Practice later, a jumpy Violet almost kills Riddick, and her squad is then suddenly Kidnapped.
00:08:41.774 --> 00:08:44.164
Yep, it's time for a land navigation exercise.
00:08:44.544 --> 00:08:51.595
After their bonds with their dragons were non consensually severed, the squad has to work with infantry and a scribe to find a location from the maps they are given.
00:08:52.105 --> 00:08:53.664
And it goes as well as we think it will.
00:08:53.674 --> 00:08:57.485
They fail epically because the two groups cannot communicate to save their lives.
00:08:57.565 --> 00:08:59.754
Literally, since it costs Tomás his life.
00:09:00.325 --> 00:09:00.504
RIP.
00:09:00.995 --> 00:09:06.485
At the end of the stretch, lying to her friends and being apart from her man, who's no longer her man, is beginning to take a toll on Violet.
00:09:07.120 --> 00:09:07.769
Yes.
00:09:08.389 --> 00:09:08.700
Dang.
00:09:08.700 --> 00:09:10.549
I just absolutely bossed that shit out.
00:09:10.549 --> 00:09:11.049
You did.
00:09:11.070 --> 00:09:11.940
You did really good.
00:09:13.250 --> 00:09:14.799
Except for all the times I stopped to laugh at myself.
00:09:16.679 --> 00:09:20.320
It's so crazy because in just 15 chapters, so much happened.
00:09:21.149 --> 00:09:21.950
Oh my god.
00:09:21.950 --> 00:09:23.460
So much stuff happened in 15 chapters.
00:09:23.759 --> 00:09:26.759
I was like dividing up the chapters.
00:09:26.759 --> 00:09:31.929
I would see where we would start one episode and then where we would finish and I would be like, holy fucking shit.
00:09:32.269 --> 00:09:35.169
It's a whole journey.
00:09:37.259 --> 00:09:39.679
Well, guys, as you guys have survived the parapet.
00:09:40.264 --> 00:09:46.595
It's time to head into our battle brief section, where we will discuss all notable things in this stretch of chapters, including foreshadowing theories and our favorite parts.
00:09:47.904 --> 00:09:50.784
Yes, so we're going to dig into the Empyrean foreshadowing first.
00:09:50.815 --> 00:09:58.225
And once again, we're going to point out that the series is literally called the Empyrean series, and it is primarily about dragon politics through the stories of our FMC.
00:09:59.659 --> 00:10:03.539
So in chapter 7, we get an interesting reveal about the dragon government from Terran.
00:10:03.799 --> 00:10:08.610
He tells Violet that the reason fewer dragons are bonding is because the Empyrean knows about the Venon.
00:10:08.940 --> 00:10:24.465
This confuses Violet, to which he explains, quote, I can foresee this conflict in Dragon Government coming to a head, possibly very soon in the series, since the war against the Benin is progressing so rapidly.
00:10:24.855 --> 00:10:32.075
And Navar isn't the only one, and military leadership isn't the only one, that's gonna have to make decisions to protect their home, or in this case, the Vale.
00:10:32.575 --> 00:10:38.585
And this leaves us with a little bit of information about the Empyrean, but honestly, we still really don't know anything.
00:10:38.804 --> 00:10:46.024
But it does give an insight into the dynamics there and leaves us with a lot more questions on what exactly is happening with the Empyrean.
00:10:46.414 --> 00:10:47.904
Why are the dragons divided?
00:10:47.914 --> 00:10:51.999
Is it for some of the same reasons as Navar's willful ignorance?
00:10:52.328 --> 00:10:54.589
I'm so curious why the dragons wouldn't want to get involved.
00:10:54.589 --> 00:10:58.759
I'm guessing it's just because they maybe think that they're safe within the wards too.
00:10:59.469 --> 00:11:01.639
But I don't know, I feel like it's maybe something more than that.
00:11:01.649 --> 00:11:08.278
But I just wanted to shout it out since It's called the Empyrean series again and dragon politics is cool.
00:11:08.509 --> 00:11:21.708
Yeah, I do think it's interesting because we do know that the dragons and humans kind of depend on each other because without the dragons the humans don't have magic and without the humans the dragons aren't really safe because they can't make their own wards.
00:11:22.009 --> 00:11:23.719
So they are going to have to figure out.
00:11:23.974 --> 00:11:28.484
This divide somehow in order to win this war because they can't fight it separately.
00:11:28.754 --> 00:11:30.203
So it's very interesting.
00:11:30.364 --> 00:11:37.224
I love how when Taryn was explaining why dragons bonded to humans in the first place, he was like, we don't have opposable thumbs that we've warred.
00:11:37.225 --> 00:11:42.374
I was like, okay, good point.
00:11:44.453 --> 00:11:45.754
Need thumbs to make wards.
00:11:46.124 --> 00:11:50.153
I guess I like see the fingers to do all the magic and stuff.
00:11:50.994 --> 00:11:53.543
Next, we're going to discuss the topic of war.
00:11:53.573 --> 00:11:56.614
So we do know that in this book, we're prepping for a war.
00:11:56.644 --> 00:12:01.134
At the end of fourth wing, we know that Violet and the Mark ones fought against have been in the Wyvern.
00:12:01.134 --> 00:12:04.663
This is kind of like, that was kind of foreshadowing to the war that they will fight in this book.
00:12:05.053 --> 00:12:10.464
And now going back to about midway of the last book, Violet found a map in her mom's office.
00:12:10.464 --> 00:12:27.754
When they were doing the squad games, and the map was of the entire continent and the map was color coordinated according to certain aspects and one of them being Griffin attacks that were being Documented throughout the continent bring in had an identical map in Satan's house in a ratio But it was marked with all of the bidding attacks.
00:12:28.114 --> 00:12:34.028
Brennan is tracking their patterns and according to him They only have six Six months before war happens.
00:12:34.078 --> 00:12:36.389
And we know that it happens a lot earlier than six months.
00:12:36.629 --> 00:12:49.298
Quote the red flags are off in the last year, the last few years, and the orange are the last few months at the right, there've been the rate they've been expanding, not only in their numbers of wiring, but in territory, I think they're headed straight up to the stone water river.
00:12:49.298 --> 00:12:49.938
And we have six months.
00:12:49.953 --> 00:12:52.923
Months or less until they're strong enough to come for Navar.
00:12:53.083 --> 00:12:54.854
Not that the assembly will listen, quote.
00:12:55.433 --> 00:13:03.754
But this is very important to note because again, we did get a bit of foreshadowing of how this world would look and what they need to prep for, when they fight these bending.
00:13:03.783 --> 00:13:04.774
'cause they are very powerful.
00:13:04.774 --> 00:13:12.734
They literally can suck the magic out of the ground, like the one ing in that scene where she was like sucking on the magic and everything on that part of the ground that was being drained.
00:13:12.734 --> 00:13:15.163
Just died like, yeah.
00:13:15.163 --> 00:13:17.203
And that's when Soleil died, I think.
00:13:17.293 --> 00:13:17.803
Yeah.
00:13:18.033 --> 00:13:21.464
Yeah, she literally sucked the life right out and they got slurpy.
00:13:24.173 --> 00:13:41.943
And they also learned that they have to kill the Venon in order to kill their Wyvern and the Venon are really hard to kill and they have to figure out what weapons they can use to not get so close because right now they only have those daggers that you have to do hand on hand combat with those Venon and they adjust to combat very quickly.
00:13:42.104 --> 00:13:47.413
Quickly, so they have to figure out ways to just to bend in, spot in, and sell and how to kill them from afar.
00:13:47.673 --> 00:13:48.693
So they don't have to get too close.
00:13:48.844 --> 00:13:50.754
So yeah, not looking too good.
00:13:52.724 --> 00:13:55.734
No, it's stressing me out.
00:13:55.734 --> 00:14:00.933
I read all these fantasy books and till the very end of the series, they're severely the underdog.
00:14:01.364 --> 00:14:02.793
And I'm like, there's no way they're gonna win.
00:14:04.274 --> 00:14:05.033
And then they do.
00:14:05.323 --> 00:14:06.644
Well, sometimes.
00:14:07.844 --> 00:14:10.134
All right.
00:14:10.283 --> 00:14:12.024
Next, we're going to dig into the first six.
00:14:12.033 --> 00:14:19.604
So, we know from the second half of this book that there is a big mystery surrounding the first six and also the history of Navarre around unification.
00:14:19.663 --> 00:14:23.744
we learned a lot of information like something killed off the men in 600 years ago.
00:14:23.803 --> 00:14:28.793
And a lot of this book is Violet trying to figure out things from the first six and the wards and everything.
00:14:28.793 --> 00:14:29.553
this is really important.
00:14:29.553 --> 00:14:33.423
So, we just wanted to talk really briefly about the foreshadowing around this topic.
00:14:34.479 --> 00:14:38.769
The first six riders were desperate to save their people when they approached the dens over 600 years ago.
00:14:39.119 --> 00:14:44.019
Those dragons formed the Empyrean and bonded humans only to protect their hatching grounds from Venon, who were the bigger threat.
00:14:44.438 --> 00:14:47.778
We don't exactly have opposable thumbs for weaving wards or runes.
00:14:48.038 --> 00:14:53.089
Neither species has ever been entirely truthful, both using the other for their own reasons and nothing more.
00:14:53.739 --> 00:15:03.158
The first six are also responsible for raising the wars in Bazgayeth and for fighting in the Great War against General Darumor that decimated the Barrens, aka the scary land that's Superdrained by Venon.
00:15:04.479 --> 00:15:08.489
I just wanted to say, it feels like we're missing so much information about the Great War.
00:15:08.899 --> 00:15:30.913
that could be important to understand, and more about, like, General Daremore, the enemy they're fighting against, I'm sure it's probably gonna connect to the plot and it just all seems so interconnected, and there's a big mystery there, and so I'm thinking that As the books continue, we'll slowly get to unravel this, we know that something killed off the event in 600 years ago, around all the time the shit was going down, like, what is it?
00:15:31.144 --> 00:15:35.573
And is it connected to the first six, the great war, feather tails, all the above?
00:15:35.653 --> 00:15:36.653
I need answers, Rebecca.
00:15:36.774 --> 00:15:37.193
Okay.
00:15:37.553 --> 00:15:38.364
Stop playing with me.
00:15:38.964 --> 00:15:43.764
Yeah, I do think it'll all connect because we know that the first six.
00:15:44.278 --> 00:15:48.578
Again in bonded dragons and they came together to fight off Benin.
00:15:48.639 --> 00:15:51.208
So how did they do it?
00:15:51.769 --> 00:15:52.729
How'd they achieve this?
00:15:55.058 --> 00:15:56.068
Who's gonna discover it?
00:15:56.149 --> 00:16:07.288
I feel like Papa Sauron girl most likely has answers on this and we just gotta find his research Driving me nuts because she knows where it is.
00:16:07.339 --> 00:16:11.918
I'm like, could you just maybe I go get it?
00:16:11.918 --> 00:16:17.469
Please It's definitely very pointed that she hasn't gone to get it yet.
00:16:17.568 --> 00:16:18.599
Yeah, that's all I'll say.
00:16:19.458 --> 00:16:20.158
Oh my gosh.
00:16:20.458 --> 00:16:21.328
Random thought.
00:16:21.528 --> 00:16:21.928
Sorry.
00:16:22.708 --> 00:16:30.989
I think it was a recent interview or snippet or whatever, Rebecca, and they were asking her what her favorite signet was and she said that it hasn't come into the series yet.
00:16:31.048 --> 00:16:34.208
I'm like, Oh my God, is it Violet's second signet?
00:16:34.599 --> 00:16:36.788
Or we also don't know Garrick's signet.
00:16:36.789 --> 00:16:38.708
Which is interesting.
00:16:38.708 --> 00:16:42.168
So it could be that one either, but I'm thinking it's Violet's second signet and it's going to be so awesome.
00:16:42.339 --> 00:16:42.629
Hmm.
00:16:42.969 --> 00:16:43.749
Interesting.
00:16:43.798 --> 00:16:44.399
Totally random.
00:16:45.649 --> 00:16:46.639
But interesting.
00:16:46.639 --> 00:16:47.186
Very much.
00:16:47.186 --> 00:16:51.109
Very much interesting.
00:16:51.288 --> 00:16:56.178
All right, now let's talk about the Varian leadership erasing Venon from history.
00:16:56.678 --> 00:17:08.429
In the cryptic letter that Papa Sorengel left Violet, he mentioned that it only takes one generation to change or erase history, and the Varian leadership got rid of any trace or evidence of Venon from the archive.
00:17:08.838 --> 00:17:19.778
So we know this because Violet requested a copy of the book of fables and her father read to her as a child and they didn't have anything regarding around wyverns or the book of fables or venon.
00:17:19.778 --> 00:17:30.138
I feel like from what's being taught at best guy, if this goes against everything they stand for and just to sit back behind protected wards while innocent people are being killed, it just doesn't really sit well.
00:17:30.140 --> 00:17:31.919
And at the same time, what was the point?
00:17:31.929 --> 00:17:33.628
Like, I understand the first six.
00:17:33.874 --> 00:17:44.044
And the dragons defeated Venon at one point in time, but we know that Venon come from dark wielders and it's not just because you erased all of them at that time doesn't mean they're not going to reappear.
00:17:44.054 --> 00:17:49.614
So why not have this documented in history so that we know how to, defeat them again, if it happens.
00:17:49.894 --> 00:17:55.364
And it just raises a lot of flags, why they keep the secret for so long and why are we not preparing for war?
00:17:56.084 --> 00:17:56.534
I know.
00:17:56.923 --> 00:18:00.614
I get it for however many hundreds of years after.
00:18:01.618 --> 00:18:03.278
All this happened in their race history.
00:18:03.328 --> 00:18:08.328
For a time, you could just be in your blissful, willful ignorance and be like, this is working.
00:18:08.679 --> 00:18:11.959
But I feel like at this point, like eventually it's going to happen.
00:18:12.058 --> 00:18:13.098
You're going to have to go to war.
00:18:13.439 --> 00:18:16.778
Like maybe we should, educate people about what actually happened.
00:18:16.788 --> 00:18:17.548
Yes.
00:18:17.648 --> 00:18:30.558
And I feel like they were so naive to think that they could be safe behind their wards, because we know from this book that the Venom had been disguised as Scraps, like they found their way inside the wards.
00:18:30.989 --> 00:18:31.769
I know, bruh.
00:18:31.929 --> 00:18:35.048
Especially since they're already faltering so much at this point.
00:18:35.499 --> 00:18:38.919
Oh, side note, since we've been Theorizing on why the wards are failing.
00:18:40.239 --> 00:18:49.199
I think it was Brennan, or I don't know, someone was telling Violet that the reason the wards are failing is because they have to imbue the alloy in the daggers with power to keep the wards going.
00:18:49.209 --> 00:18:50.729
But can't you just constantly imbue them?
00:18:51.578 --> 00:18:52.769
Hmm, I don't know.
00:18:53.148 --> 00:18:53.449
I'm confused.
00:18:53.788 --> 00:18:54.588
That confused me.
00:18:54.759 --> 00:19:03.278
Well I guess that also again explains why they were feeling too because the griffins were taking the daggers are those are daggers that they were taking Yeah.
00:19:03.288 --> 00:19:03.699
Okay.
00:19:03.709 --> 00:19:04.088
Yeah.
00:19:04.169 --> 00:19:10.769
Well, I don't know if it's daggers in the outposts or just raw alloy that powers the wards and then they steal it to make it the daggers.
00:19:10.788 --> 00:19:11.138
I don't know.
00:19:12.469 --> 00:19:14.078
Why don't I know these things?
00:19:14.078 --> 00:19:15.068
I've read this book so many times.
00:19:18.338 --> 00:19:23.888
All right, so we're going to talk a little bit Scribes and the role that they're going to play in this upcoming war.
00:19:23.909 --> 00:19:32.848
So we know that in this book, the dragon riders and the griffon flyers will join forces and train together to fight in this upcoming war against the Venon, but strength and weapons is not the only thing that we need.
00:19:32.989 --> 00:19:47.219
We've learned all that's like that knowledge is also power quote in a world of dragon riders, Griffin flyers, and dark wielders, it's scribes who hold all the power, which we know to be true since they literally were able to erase history and change the mindset of a whole country.
00:19:47.265 --> 00:19:48.784
Continent.
00:19:49.064 --> 00:19:49.733
Continent.
00:19:49.844 --> 00:19:51.134
Well, yeah.
00:19:51.233 --> 00:19:51.854
I think it is.
00:19:51.884 --> 00:19:52.284
I don't know.
00:19:52.693 --> 00:19:57.263
I know there's a whole continent, but I don't know what the bar is.
00:19:58.943 --> 00:19:59.364
All right.
00:19:59.794 --> 00:20:05.854
Anyways, and Violet is very much proof of this, as people have often relied on her knowledge to get through several challenges.
00:20:06.193 --> 00:20:11.933
And she acknowledges this power herself, saying that, scribe in its ranks, but it has me.
00:20:12.374 --> 00:20:22.973
So I think this is also foreshadowing to the role of scribes in the war, and I think her and Jessenia will have a super awesome scribe team up in the grander plot of the book, and I'm really excited to see it.
00:20:23.173 --> 00:20:25.403
And I also want to just learn more about Jessenia, she's cool.
00:20:25.554 --> 00:20:30.034
Yeah, and of course we know that she's the one that transcribes it, so she's really badass.
00:20:30.574 --> 00:20:31.354
She gets to document these.
00:20:31.354 --> 00:20:33.443
And we know she doesn't die, so we can get attached to her.
00:20:36.453 --> 00:20:41.673
She's going to be one of the key factors in changing history here, because she is putting it all on paper.
00:20:42.663 --> 00:20:43.034
Yes.
00:20:43.423 --> 00:20:45.653
All right, now briefly we'll discuss the first six.
00:20:46.384 --> 00:20:51.554
So we know that all of this, like the Van and Wyvern, comes from the Book of Fables again.
00:20:51.814 --> 00:20:56.233
And this is where the tale originated from, especially in regard to the characters.
00:20:56.463 --> 00:20:59.394
I'm remembering correctly, because I forgot to fact check, that there were three brothers.
00:20:59.683 --> 00:21:04.324
The two of them decided to wield from the sky and use dragons and griffins to help balance their magic.
00:21:04.324 --> 00:21:09.513
And then we had another brother who I'm assuming was very greedy and jealous and turned to dark magic.
00:21:09.733 --> 00:21:13.034
And this is where we get, I call them the OGs.
00:21:14.354 --> 00:21:18.443
And for some reason, like Kena said a while ago, in our fourth wing coverage.
00:21:18.444 --> 00:21:23.604
I feel like the OG mage, like whoever's over the dark waters is someone we know.
00:21:24.223 --> 00:21:25.713
And I want to, I don't know.
00:21:25.743 --> 00:21:31.933
the way I see it in my head is like, I know there's one brother that's over Dragon Riders, and there's one brother over the Griffin Riders.
00:21:31.963 --> 00:21:34.534
I feel like the other one is who's going to be over Dark Willows.
00:21:34.624 --> 00:21:38.384
But I don't know who these people are, but I just feel like they're all interconnected somehow.
00:21:38.554 --> 00:21:40.364
And they're the ones that started this tale.
00:21:40.364 --> 00:21:43.294
So I feel like it'll be like, a trifecta almost.
00:21:43.433 --> 00:21:44.044
I don't know.
00:21:44.263 --> 00:21:44.794
Yes.
00:21:45.483 --> 00:21:47.654
Well, I'm convinced it's Neoland, but I don't know.
00:21:48.194 --> 00:21:57.095
So yeah, we're gonna keep our foreshadowing section short because if we talked about everything that was foreshadowed in this stretch of chapters, this beefy stretch of chapters, we would be talking forever.
00:21:57.484 --> 00:22:00.984
But we do get a lot of hints to other things, notably Jack Barlow's reappearance.
00:22:02.069 --> 00:22:09.509
Very soon and a lot of other really small things that we think we should get into an episode where it's a little more prominent.
00:22:09.690 --> 00:22:13.839
So because all of this is going to reappear at some point, like all this is going to be reiterated.
00:22:13.859 --> 00:22:24.230
So yes, but it's time to get in my favorite section, the theories and oh my gosh, I was just like typing so fast when I was doing these.
00:22:24.230 --> 00:22:24.960
I had so many thoughts.
00:22:25.440 --> 00:22:26.220
So buckle up.
00:22:26.434 --> 00:22:33.865
First I want to talk about, that I gave a shout out to in our synopsis, is my theory around the Venon assassins and the leadership conspiracy.
00:22:35.355 --> 00:22:41.164
So in our fourth wing episodes, I went on a bit of a theory rampage about how Father, Father Atos is likely colluding with the Venon.
00:22:41.615 --> 00:22:43.244
And I have more evidence for you.
00:22:43.714 --> 00:22:48.944
Before he leaves for his newly assigned outpost, because He did Mamasaur and Gil wrong.
00:22:49.244 --> 00:22:52.365
He tells our two main characters, quote, Secrets make for poor leverage.
00:22:52.384 --> 00:22:53.875
They die with the people who keep them.
00:22:54.265 --> 00:22:59.115
And then the assassin that attacks Violet at assessment says the exact same thing.
00:22:59.295 --> 00:23:02.414
So we know for sure that he was sent by Atos.
00:23:03.984 --> 00:23:07.275
And this assassin is a Venon with red rimmed eyes.
00:23:07.805 --> 00:23:20.875
So this has me thinking that Varys and Colonel Atos are likely working together with the Venon or possibly are Venon, as it is confirmed that they are friends in the Stretch of Chapters and appear to be sadistic buddies, I guess.
00:23:21.724 --> 00:23:26.644
And this is just too many coincidences for me not to have a super detailed theory.
00:23:27.875 --> 00:23:35.184
And Barish is exactly the type who would go evil, and the fact that Dane's father is friends with him just speaks volumes about who Dane's father is.
00:23:35.515 --> 00:23:46.523
Which is crazy because I feel like Dane has his father on a pedestal, so he's clearly not seeing the side of him that's friends with Barish, who's like, literally the devil.
00:23:47.683 --> 00:23:54.054
And I already theorized about these two, but I think Atos passed over his Jack fuckin Barlow project to his little friend on the way out.
00:23:54.473 --> 00:24:02.574
And the fact that they seem to have authority over this operation, and that Jack is a menin too, is just, uh All of these things are just lining up and it's so suspicious.
00:24:02.943 --> 00:24:14.493
And on top of all this, Varish is actually inquiring about Papasaur and Gale's research in chapter 11, which is something Father Father Atos has also done in the past, which makes me think that this feathertail research is something crucially related to the Venon.
00:24:14.494 --> 00:24:28.199
And something very interesting I noted when this happened was that, uh, When Barish asked her about the research, Violet reflects in her internal monologue that quote, Andarna has gone silent at the mention of this research.
00:24:28.818 --> 00:24:29.128
What?
00:24:30.118 --> 00:24:31.028
That's so pointed.
00:24:31.739 --> 00:24:38.489
the fact that Andarna was silent and we know everything we know at the end of this book about how special Andarna is.
00:24:38.528 --> 00:24:42.729
And again, the research we keep talking about what this is very pointed.
00:24:42.729 --> 00:24:43.489
Rebecca, I see you.
00:24:44.038 --> 00:24:44.669
I'm paying attention.
00:24:45.439 --> 00:24:45.959
Yes.
00:24:46.179 --> 00:24:54.469
I do also think that Barish and Atos are probably working together or inside Rats.
00:24:54.499 --> 00:25:17.449
00:25:17.449 --> 00:25:18.009
We don't know.
00:25:18.798 --> 00:25:19.159
So.
00:25:20.338 --> 00:25:25.979
Yeah, we did get confirmation in the stretch that the box and resin was allure and it was of Nevarian craftsmanship.
00:25:26.108 --> 00:25:26.489
So.
00:25:28.159 --> 00:25:29.048
Definitely a trap.
00:25:29.189 --> 00:25:38.489
All right, we're gonna talk about violent and her connection to Malik, we've discussed the many mentions to Malik in book one over the last five episodes and it continues into this book as well.
00:25:38.769 --> 00:25:44.409
Quote, I've danced with Malik more than my fair share over the last year and told him to fuck right off every single time.
00:25:44.449 --> 00:25:46.269
Maybe Sloane is right and he doesn't want me.
00:25:46.338 --> 00:25:46.769
End quote.
00:25:47.189 --> 00:25:53.819
This feels like foreshadowing again to Violet having some special connection with Malik as Kana has said throughout the whole Fourth Wing book.
00:25:54.269 --> 00:25:59.269
Once again, we feel like this will turn into something significant later on and possibly connect to the Benin.
00:25:59.289 --> 00:26:02.430
And I also have a theory on this that I'm going to talk about at the end of this coverage.
00:26:03.799 --> 00:26:04.970
It's inspired by you, Kano.
00:26:05.720 --> 00:26:06.410
I feel so special.
00:26:06.970 --> 00:26:13.980
CNS on the Iron Flame map, the Bay of Malik is right next to the Barrens and we're just pointing out all these coincidences.
00:26:14.269 --> 00:26:15.690
That is such a weird word, coincidence.
00:26:17.265 --> 00:26:19.144
You get tripped up by the weirdest words, man.
00:26:19.275 --> 00:26:20.865
There's so many syllables in that word.
00:26:20.934 --> 00:26:21.865
Coincidences.
00:26:22.144 --> 00:26:23.755
Coincidences.
00:26:23.865 --> 00:26:24.714
Aurora.
00:26:24.714 --> 00:26:27.664
Coincidences.
00:26:27.664 --> 00:26:30.614
Coincidences.
00:26:31.474 --> 00:26:33.035
Goddamn, how many syllables is that?
00:26:33.634 --> 00:26:34.184
It's five.
00:26:35.549 --> 00:26:44.430
It's a lot less than what it seems like, but it like, when you say it, it's like, yeah, also It was a sick burn that Sloan says she hopes no one commends Violet's soul to Malik.
00:26:44.619 --> 00:26:44.789
Ouch.
00:26:45.595 --> 00:26:46.914
She said that I was like, dang.
00:26:50.005 --> 00:26:56.625
I might start saying the way I just want to curse fantasy curse words all the time.
00:26:56.625 --> 00:26:59.894
And then also I want to like roast people, fantasy things.
00:26:59.894 --> 00:27:02.595
Like I hope no one commends your soul to Malik, bitch.
00:27:03.654 --> 00:27:06.045
And they're like, well, what are you talking about?
00:27:06.045 --> 00:27:09.444
All right.
00:27:09.855 --> 00:27:10.694
The last theory.
00:27:11.265 --> 00:27:12.994
I wonder if anyone can guess what it is.
00:27:13.224 --> 00:27:17.164
It's time for me to hate on Brennan for real.
00:27:17.164 --> 00:27:19.234
I titled this theory, I'm watching you, Brennan.
00:27:19.734 --> 00:27:23.525
Since we have finally arrived at book two, it's time for me to spew my Brennan suspicions.
00:27:23.565 --> 00:27:26.615
And in the short time we get with him in the beginning, there are some things to note.
00:27:26.954 --> 00:27:30.815
One, Brennan has a mysterious rune shaped scar on his palm.
00:27:31.375 --> 00:27:31.704
Hmm.
00:27:32.214 --> 00:27:32.934
What the heck is that?
00:27:33.154 --> 00:27:35.904
This has something to do with what happened six years ago.
00:27:36.204 --> 00:27:40.095
Maybe I had a crazy thought, maybe it's a rune to hide his actions.
00:27:40.095 --> 00:27:42.855
If he is a traitor to the revolution, that would be pretty wild.
00:27:43.244 --> 00:27:46.515
But this is definitely like a very pointed thing to notice.
00:27:46.535 --> 00:27:48.585
Like why do you have a scar on your palm, sir?
00:27:48.984 --> 00:27:51.335
And it's also not mentioned again in Iron Flame, I don't think.
00:27:51.345 --> 00:27:52.855
So we don't actually know what it is yet.
00:27:53.684 --> 00:27:59.924
Two, he is super vague explaining what happens to Nalen, saying that he didn't fail but it cost him anything.
00:28:00.075 --> 00:28:01.105
Like, can you elaborate?
00:28:01.115 --> 00:28:01.914
Is he dead, bro?
00:28:02.275 --> 00:28:10.384
Like, why are you not Can you And then, three, on top of that, Taryn refuses to talk about Nalen.
00:28:10.724 --> 00:28:17.295
And I'm wondering, maybe a betrayal happened similar to the end of Iron Flame with Zayden Segale and that's why he doesn't like to talk about it.
00:28:17.325 --> 00:28:21.125
maybe Nalen is alive and I'm in it now, and maybe Taryn severed the bond between them.
00:28:21.125 --> 00:28:22.265
I I don't know.
00:28:22.394 --> 00:28:22.654
Yeah.
00:28:22.984 --> 00:28:25.035
There's some serious E in history there.
00:28:25.045 --> 00:28:25.444
Yes.
00:28:25.494 --> 00:28:29.384
And we know that Taryn is not ashamed of lying by omission.
00:28:29.505 --> 00:28:30.025
So.
00:28:33.085 --> 00:28:39.174
And four, my last suspicion is that Brennan mentions that Sigele doesn't like him and never has.
00:28:39.214 --> 00:28:46.515
And I don't know about you, but this is one of the biggest red flags for me because you know, I like Sigele, I feel like she has a good breed on people.
00:28:47.035 --> 00:28:55.255
And that also creates more mystery around what happened with Naomi and when Brennan was blah, blah, blah, yeah.
00:28:55.609 --> 00:28:55.900
Yeah.
00:28:56.440 --> 00:28:57.500
I just lost my train of thought.
00:28:59.700 --> 00:29:00.000
Yeah.
00:29:00.190 --> 00:29:01.259
But you get what I'm saying.
00:29:01.700 --> 00:29:02.049
I don't know.
00:29:02.049 --> 00:29:07.940
It's weird because if Naomi's alive, why is Taron bonded to another writer?
00:29:08.519 --> 00:29:09.930
I think they can sever the bond.
00:29:10.690 --> 00:29:34.160
if he's He's what you think and he's over the dark wielders and he severed that bond to protect Navar or prep Navar and bond the next badass, weapon to the war, the last thing I want to add about that theory is, maybe, I'm going too far and he's not a traitor to the revolution, but I do feel like something's just off there.
00:29:34.250 --> 00:29:39.319
And in the short time we get with him, there's a lot of moments that I just had to point out.
00:29:39.579 --> 00:29:41.119
So we'll see where this goes with Brennan.
00:29:41.700 --> 00:29:42.509
I hope I'm not wrong.
00:29:43.210 --> 00:29:44.730
It also kind of makes me sad though.
00:29:44.910 --> 00:29:54.359
If their writers turn into Venons becomes like a big factor in their bond because we know that Sigil and Zayden's bond isn't as strong later on in the book, when he becomes Venon.
00:29:54.720 --> 00:29:55.720
So I don't know.
00:29:56.359 --> 00:29:56.650
Yeah.
00:29:57.319 --> 00:29:57.970
I don't know, man.
00:29:58.730 --> 00:30:00.779
So many, so many questions, not very many.
00:30:01.569 --> 00:30:02.029
Right.
00:30:02.210 --> 00:30:02.670
Right.
00:30:04.430 --> 00:30:06.609
Let's get into our favorite and notable moments.
00:30:06.670 --> 00:30:11.339
And I first want to talk about Dane getting his ass handed to him repeatedly.
00:30:11.970 --> 00:30:16.869
Ever since we have started deep diving the series, my hatred for Dane has reached a fever pitch.
00:30:17.789 --> 00:30:19.490
And Kenzie is not helping with that.
00:30:20.039 --> 00:30:20.759
She's making it worse.
00:30:21.670 --> 00:30:22.900
She really hates this man.
00:30:23.589 --> 00:30:27.089
but thank God Dane got his ass handled in the stretch of chapters.
00:30:27.089 --> 00:30:29.680
Not just from Violet, but also Zayden and Rhiannon.
00:30:29.730 --> 00:30:33.990
it was cracking me up that they wouldn't handle his ass and then he would be speechless.
00:30:33.990 --> 00:30:35.450
I'm like, well, you're reaping what you sow.
00:30:36.059 --> 00:30:43.759
My favorite line was the first thing out of Violet's mouth when he tries to cut her damn face again upon seeing her for the first time since they returned from Athbin.
00:30:44.220 --> 00:30:51.490
And she says this, quote, Touch me and I swear to gods, I'll cut your fucking hands off and let the quadrant source you out in the next round of challenges, Dane Atos.
00:30:52.710 --> 00:31:04.835
Yep, we have been waiting for these words for an entire book and damn, do they feel And the cherry on top of this is then watching Dane try to fill Zayden's wing leader shoes, which, of course, it's not going to happen.
00:31:05.335 --> 00:31:06.045
Not even close.
00:31:06.625 --> 00:31:13.125
And then later on, Rihanna even reminds him that Zayden didn't need everyone to supplicate to him as week leader to do his job.
00:31:13.144 --> 00:31:13.644
And I was like, damn.
00:31:15.244 --> 00:31:16.535
You're not wrong.
00:31:17.434 --> 00:31:23.644
Okay, I just want to piggyback off of what you said cuz she beat me to the punch and it's not a lot to say, like you covered it all.
00:31:23.644 --> 00:31:31.295
I'm so glad that Violet was able to be like, and I love the fact that Zayden takes a punch in his pride.
00:31:31.325 --> 00:31:32.765
I just, I love this little.
00:31:33.904 --> 00:31:37.464
I don't know why they're like low key fighting for Violet, but Zayden already knows that he won.
00:31:37.464 --> 00:31:38.795
So he's not fazed by it.
00:31:39.055 --> 00:31:40.914
And he's just throwing punches left and right.
00:31:40.914 --> 00:31:41.944
And he's like, yeah, take that.
00:31:43.045 --> 00:31:43.565
So delicious.
00:31:44.464 --> 00:31:49.525
My next favorite part is the beginning of Imogen and Violet's friendship.
00:31:49.805 --> 00:31:54.345
Even though Imogen calls them quote, co conspirators with a vested interest in keeping each other alive.
00:31:54.345 --> 00:31:56.615
Damn it girl, you guys are friends and you freaking know it.
00:31:57.234 --> 00:32:02.375
But anyways, I loved rereading this and watched their friendship blossom from the beginning.
00:32:02.384 --> 00:32:08.724
Ever since Imogen started weight training her and now they went through battle together and now they're running together.
00:32:09.075 --> 00:32:43.484
00:32:43.515 --> 00:32:45.295
So yes, you guys are friends, okay?
00:32:46.384 --> 00:32:54.365
But I really appreciated their relationship at this point in the story, because we know that Violet can no longer confide in Rhiannon, and is actively avoiding her.
00:32:54.394 --> 00:32:57.484
So I'm glad that we get some female friendship while that sorts itself out.
00:32:58.375 --> 00:33:04.525
It actually makes me really sad that Rhiannon and Violet are Well, I don't know.
00:33:04.525 --> 00:33:06.654
I don't know, it just makes me really sad.
00:33:07.990 --> 00:33:08.359
I know.
00:33:08.369 --> 00:33:10.990
Well, at least it doesn't last for more than half a book.
00:33:11.089 --> 00:33:18.190
I know if she can't be truthful with her friends, she doesn't want to be close to her and continue to build a relationship of friendship off of lies, but I also think she's overthinking it.
00:33:18.200 --> 00:33:19.710
Cause there's so many things that she could say.
00:33:20.865 --> 00:33:22.115
That wouldn't be lying.
00:33:22.144 --> 00:33:23.835
And she's just freaks out and runs away.
00:33:24.065 --> 00:33:25.244
It's so funny how she does it.
00:33:25.355 --> 00:33:27.795
She's like, okay, she just like runs off.
00:33:29.654 --> 00:33:30.884
She's like, I gotta go run.
00:33:30.884 --> 00:33:35.625
Yeah, I know.
00:33:35.625 --> 00:33:38.184
It does make me sad, but understandable.
00:33:38.184 --> 00:33:45.144
especially after Atos basically threatened Mira and her friends so like, I get it, but also.
00:33:45.775 --> 00:33:51.065
I feel like if she would have thought it through a little bit more because eventually she does tell them, she comes to a point where she's like, I can't do this anymore.
00:33:51.075 --> 00:33:51.365
Yeah.
00:33:51.384 --> 00:33:56.154
I'm like, yeah, maybe you should have just done it earlier if you were gonna do it in the first place, but I also get it.
00:33:56.154 --> 00:33:59.984
Because it also could affect them, too.
00:34:00.085 --> 00:34:05.934
Because if they're preparing for a war against a bigger enemy, you would want your closest friends to know so they can prepare.
00:34:06.694 --> 00:34:07.144
Mm hmm.
00:34:07.575 --> 00:34:08.014
Yeah, man.
00:34:08.065 --> 00:34:11.724
All right, my last favorite moment is the dragon banter, of course.
00:34:11.764 --> 00:34:12.425
Oh my gosh.
00:34:12.465 --> 00:34:20.735
I love the dynamic between the dragons and Violet even more this book because, of course, what grumpy daddy Taryn needed was a sassy teenage sister dragon.
00:34:21.114 --> 00:34:27.625
And it's so comical that Andarna now loves to tell Taryn that he is wrong at every opportunity.
00:34:28.755 --> 00:34:33.045
We only get some of the conversations, but I can just imagine how every conversation is going in between them.
00:34:33.525 --> 00:34:41.324
And I gotta say, this man, or dragon, sorry, has a lot of patience, and my favorite example from this stretch is when they are pulling up to Baskaioth.
00:34:41.784 --> 00:34:46.565
Terran says, quote, a rolling dismount would tear you limb from limb on impact.
00:34:46.824 --> 00:34:51.335
You don't know that! Violet says, I'd watch it, he might get tired and drop you.
00:34:51.900 --> 00:34:57.000
His pride would never allow it, says the dragon who spent 20 minutes refusing to put on her harness.
00:35:00.420 --> 00:35:06.360
I love how we get these little funny comments and then I just have this total picture in my head of Antara sitting there.
00:35:06.360 --> 00:35:08.340
She's like, I'm not putting on my harness, I can fly myself.
00:35:10.119 --> 00:35:11.610
But uh, I just love it.
00:35:11.650 --> 00:35:18.969
I know Violet's got problems on top of problems on top of problems in this book, but at least she and us as readers are very entertained by the dragons.
00:35:19.010 --> 00:35:19.400
Yes.
00:35:19.885 --> 00:35:20.375
Yes.
00:35:21.914 --> 00:35:30.114
So my, it was really hard for me to pick specific favorite moments, stuff like the whole first 15 chapters that we're covering, it's just a really great introduction to what's going to happen.
00:35:30.755 --> 00:35:40.824
So the biggest thing that I was excited about was us learning about the revolution and us moving into this new setting and this new plot now that we've gotten through fourth wing.
00:35:41.264 --> 00:35:53.344
And for some reason, I just love that Zayden is following his father's footsteps to save innocent people because the way the bar paints it they make it seem like Finn was the big enemy and he, went against his loyalty against the bar to start a rebellion.
00:35:53.344 --> 00:35:58.364
That, uh, but really he was trying to help innocent people because the bar are, they're the true enemies here.
00:35:58.364 --> 00:35:59.284
They're the two bad guys.
00:35:59.735 --> 00:36:06.295
And it just shows that there are still good people in this world, and not everyone is turning their heads to the corruption outside the wards.
00:36:06.315 --> 00:36:17.184
And sometimes new settings really piss me off in fantasy books, and Kenna knows this because I'm struggling to get through Throne of Glass because we keep switching settings and it's so hard for me to get back into the new world.
00:36:18.485 --> 00:36:21.375
But Yarrow's rotes.
00:36:22.034 --> 00:36:33.184
The intro to, Iron Flame is such an underwhelming way, and I say that in a good way, because it's not as hard to get into when she's introducing Aresha and Brennan in the house of Bryerson.
00:36:33.764 --> 00:36:34.985
It's really, it's like an easy flow.
00:36:34.985 --> 00:36:35.875
It's easy to get into.
00:36:36.054 --> 00:36:37.094
It's easy to picture.
00:36:37.474 --> 00:36:52.485
It's not very overwhelming with all the different, Settings that we have this book going back and forth between Araysha and Navar, so I do appreciate that, and I just can't wait for us to go back to Araysha, for some reason this book, I hate when they're at Vesgaia, I want them to go back, I love the time they have.
00:36:52.594 --> 00:36:53.085
Really?
00:36:53.344 --> 00:36:53.735
Yeah.
00:36:54.244 --> 00:36:55.164
I'm the opposite.
00:36:55.755 --> 00:36:58.954
It's just because all the juicy, drama that happens when they go back to the place.
00:36:58.954 --> 00:37:01.434
I can't wait for us to get to that part, but there is a lot.
00:37:01.474 --> 00:37:02.675
It's definitely fun.
00:37:02.974 --> 00:37:08.914
I remember waiting for Iron Flame to come out and I was like, Oh, I really want them to go back to Bas Gaia because I love reading about their time there.
00:37:09.344 --> 00:37:10.804
But I was like, what if they never get to go back?
00:37:10.974 --> 00:37:11.485
I don't know.
00:37:11.514 --> 00:37:20.375
When I first started reading fourth wing, I love the setting of best guy, because I love when we have magical colleges or boarding schools, like I told you about wings club.
00:37:20.994 --> 00:37:25.284
I love watching these couples run up because it was a little like magical beings all under one roof.
00:37:25.284 --> 00:37:28.005
And they were going to school and learn how to control their magic and stuff like that.
00:37:28.295 --> 00:37:29.385
And I feel like that's so cool.
00:37:29.385 --> 00:37:32.565
And when best guys became corrupted, I was like, well, damn, now we need to get a new spot.
00:37:32.565 --> 00:37:35.144
And so they went to a ratio and then they're learning new skills.
00:37:35.175 --> 00:37:36.125
And they're like, I don't know.
00:37:36.125 --> 00:37:36.775
I just like it.
00:37:36.914 --> 00:37:37.635
I like the setting.
00:37:38.025 --> 00:37:38.284
Yeah.
00:37:39.525 --> 00:37:40.465
I'm pretty sure it's a ratio.
00:37:40.565 --> 00:37:43.894
Arisha, it's fine.
00:37:43.934 --> 00:37:44.534
I don't know now.
00:37:44.534 --> 00:37:45.635
I'm questioning everything.
00:37:46.824 --> 00:37:47.355
Oh well.
00:37:49.255 --> 00:37:50.454
All right, folks, I'm gonna close out.
00:37:50.454 --> 00:37:54.994
I better breathe and move on to the Book of where we will divide, where we will divide?
00:37:55.045 --> 00:37:57.875
Where we will dive into the mythology that inspired Iron Flame.
00:37:58.500 --> 00:38:00.570
We'll do long division.
00:38:01.409 --> 00:38:03.380
I actually don't know how to do long division anymore.
00:38:03.380 --> 00:38:05.889
Yeah, I forgot.
00:38:05.889 --> 00:38:06.780
It's been too long.
00:38:07.610 --> 00:38:08.059
Oh, damn.
00:38:08.929 --> 00:38:15.610
Well, we will dive into the mythology that inspired Iron Flame as well as continue our Signet breakdown from last episode of 4th Wing.
00:38:15.869 --> 00:38:18.579
Feel free to skip ahead to our mini series if you feel like you're already an expert.
00:38:19.764 --> 00:38:26.034
Yes, so we're not going to dig into any mythology today, especially since this is such a long intro chapter where we're getting the hang of things.
00:38:26.045 --> 00:38:28.315
There's not really a lot of mythology that we could talk about here.
00:38:28.704 --> 00:38:29.695
So we're not going to do that.
00:38:29.695 --> 00:38:31.824
And also the segments will take us a while to get through.
00:38:31.855 --> 00:38:39.905
That's why we had to split in between our last episode of fourth wing and our first episode of iron flame because there's so many segments and we have a lot to say about them.
00:38:40.184 --> 00:38:42.804
So we're just going to focus on that for our myths and magic today.
00:38:43.105 --> 00:38:45.735
And then next episode, we'll get back into our mythology.
00:38:46.434 --> 00:38:51.085
We're gonna continue our discussion on documented signets and what we know about them.
00:38:51.405 --> 00:39:00.885
object summoning, we know that Rhiannon has the signet and we are not sure yet how much Rhi will be able to accomplish with the signet, but we know that she can pull things through walls.
00:39:01.244 --> 00:39:08.155
And I am wondering if she'll be able to summon something she has never seen before or summon something as large as a person who has fallen off their dragon.
00:39:08.804 --> 00:39:11.445
Or how far away she can summon things.
00:39:11.815 --> 00:39:15.025
This potentially, this could, I put those two words together.
00:39:15.074 --> 00:39:15.744
Did you hear me?
00:39:16.454 --> 00:39:16.605
Yeah.
00:39:18.840 --> 00:39:27.389
This could potentially be interesting with Quinn's astral projection if she were to project into a distant room and describe what Reese needs to summon without her seeing it.
00:39:27.389 --> 00:39:28.889
Can't wait to see her powers grow.
00:39:29.800 --> 00:39:35.099
Next we're gonna talk about, uh, retro, retro cogni, God dammit.
00:39:35.250 --> 00:39:43.869
Retro, retro, retro, right, bro, retro cognition, which we know is Dane Atos.
00:39:44.760 --> 00:39:45.199
Sickname.
00:39:45.389 --> 00:39:56.110
This is the ability I can tell when you're gonna struggle over a word cause you just have this look in your face where you pause for a second and you're like Well, I paused that time cause I said dang a toes.
00:39:56.170 --> 00:39:58.139
I didn't realize I said dang a toes and I was like, oop.
00:39:58.320 --> 00:39:59.909
I had a second of like, oop.
00:40:00.269 --> 00:40:00.840
Brother, oop.
00:40:02.690 --> 00:40:05.500
This is the ability to read someone's memories through touch.
00:40:05.500 --> 00:40:08.630
It is unknown how recent I'm getting major PTSD from this sickname.
00:40:08.630 --> 00:40:08.900
I'm sorry.
00:40:09.110 --> 00:40:11.090
It is Oh my god.
00:40:13.014 --> 00:40:15.135
I'm just thinking of the shit he's done in the past book.
00:40:15.574 --> 00:40:18.864
It is unknown how recent the memories have to be for them to be read.
00:40:18.885 --> 00:40:23.585
In certain cases, the person whose memories are being viewed have a little control, over what the person sees.
00:40:23.585 --> 00:40:26.445
And we know this from the scene where he's interrogating Violet.
00:40:26.445 --> 00:40:30.114
Next we have Shadow Wielding, which is Danny Ryerson.
00:40:30.414 --> 00:40:34.284
They're incredibly rare and highly coveted battle sickness.
00:40:35.375 --> 00:40:35.655
Coveted.
00:40:35.655 --> 00:40:39.480
S s s s s s s s s s s s c c c c c coveted?
00:40:40.780 --> 00:40:41.269
Yeah, Coveted.
00:40:42.019 --> 00:40:42.449
Coveted.
00:40:43.949 --> 00:40:45.210
Coveted has two Ts?
00:40:46.869 --> 00:40:49.409
I don't even know if Coveted is a word, I'm gonna be honest.
00:40:50.469 --> 00:40:51.289
Never heard of that one.
00:40:52.570 --> 00:40:54.800
This should be called the mispronouncing shit podcast.
00:40:55.639 --> 00:40:57.980
It's always when I get to the mythology section, I'm like, hmm.
00:40:58.500 --> 00:41:02.545
Oh god, it's the most notorious section for mispronouncing shit.
00:41:04.574 --> 00:41:16.425
Well, this signet is this incredibly rare and highly coveted battle signet and it's the ability to wield existing shadows It can black out large areas and manipulate objects within the shadows.
00:41:16.835 --> 00:41:22.264
it can also be used as a dragon lasso, as we saw in the resin scene.
00:41:23.864 --> 00:41:26.215
It can break a fall from great heights.
00:41:26.454 --> 00:41:32.005
Historically used to disorient entire drifts of griffins or take them down depending on the strength of the signet.
00:41:32.074 --> 00:41:35.704
And we also saw this when she was fighting the Venon and he made it really dark.
00:41:36.034 --> 00:41:42.025
To even the plan feel, this isn't it really reflects Zayden's secretive side of who he really is.
00:41:43.494 --> 00:41:47.304
Next is siphoning, which we know is Naolan and Sloane.
00:41:47.335 --> 00:41:56.255
This is a significant signet, which is the ability to absorb power from various other sources, including dragons and other riders to use or redistribute among a riot.
00:41:56.614 --> 00:42:00.094
It's definitely a useful signet to have on the battlefield.
00:42:00.795 --> 00:42:03.744
In my mind, this is one of the most badass signets.
00:42:04.894 --> 00:42:05.454
I don't know why.
00:42:05.505 --> 00:42:11.974
I just feel like that would be really cool if you have the power, like, control the power on a battlefield.
00:42:12.025 --> 00:42:12.974
who gets more?
00:42:12.974 --> 00:42:13.914
And I don't know.
00:42:13.925 --> 00:42:14.224
It's cool.
00:42:14.485 --> 00:42:15.514
I feel like that would be really cool.
00:42:15.625 --> 00:42:19.735
This signet is also very similar to the power of the Benin.
00:42:21.284 --> 00:42:21.684
Mmm.
00:42:22.054 --> 00:42:22.335
Yeah.
00:42:22.364 --> 00:42:22.875
Yeah.
00:42:23.195 --> 00:42:30.255
Well, Naomi, I think that not coming for you yet.
00:42:30.264 --> 00:42:32.045
Sloan, but maybe I'm just kidding.
00:42:32.295 --> 00:42:33.704
I think she'll be like, okay.
00:42:33.704 --> 00:42:37.235
So, you know, like a math, how to the same thing, counsel each other out.
00:42:37.735 --> 00:42:38.034
Yeah.
00:42:38.065 --> 00:42:38.324
Yeah.
00:42:38.364 --> 00:42:39.625
I feel like this is kind of it.
00:42:39.675 --> 00:42:43.974
If Naomi is the Benin, then Sloan is the one that could come in and Cancel that out.
00:42:44.025 --> 00:42:44.315
I don't know.
00:42:45.045 --> 00:42:46.635
I love the girl math.
00:42:46.635 --> 00:42:47.275
What's happening?
00:42:48.684 --> 00:42:53.304
Who thought we were going to talk about math twice in this episode?
00:42:55.284 --> 00:42:59.675
Okay, size changes the ability to make bigger things smaller or small things bigger.
00:42:59.844 --> 00:43:02.204
Wink, wink.
00:43:02.204 --> 00:43:07.965
Right, sound seekers, the ability to hear sounds from across far distances, even miles apart.
00:43:07.965 --> 00:43:10.380
Oh, that's a lame signet.
00:43:12.141 --> 00:43:32.510
I mean, I mean, yes and no, like it is cool, but in there, I feel like I'd rather have that signet than, farsight maybe, I don't know, I don't know, I don't know that just kind of the sound seeker also reminds me of vampire diaries because they can hear things from far away.
00:43:33.490 --> 00:43:36.650
Oh my God.
00:43:39.081 --> 00:43:43.411
if we ever record an episode and you don't mention vampire diaries, I need to take you to the hospital.
00:43:43.420 --> 00:43:45.150
That was actually my first time.
00:43:45.436 --> 00:43:47.206
This episode we've been thinking of vampire diaries.
00:43:50.076 --> 00:43:59.085
All right, so the next segment we want to talk about is storm wielding, which is Mama Soringale's signet, and it's the ability to wield the weather and seems to be somewhat connected to the wielder's emotions.
00:43:59.596 --> 00:44:08.045
A truth sayer, so in the interrogation scene with Barish, he brings in Nora, who is a truth sayer, and this is the rare ability to detect whether or not someone is lying.
00:44:08.306 --> 00:44:22.188
And They're very similar to intenzics, but somehow they're allowed to live and some truth sayers detect lies through bodily functions, which is kind of weird Like what's weird that your signet would connect to observing other bodily Functions.
00:44:22.188 --> 00:44:24.835
Wait, what bodily functions?
00:44:24.835 --> 00:44:25.565
Like peeing?
00:44:27.065 --> 00:44:31.942
No, You know, when you take a polygraph and it's observing, your heartbeat, and your blood pressure, I don't know.
00:44:31.942 --> 00:44:32.335
Oh, you know what?
00:44:32.335 --> 00:44:32.746
Don't even.
00:44:34.826 --> 00:44:34.996
Heh.
00:44:35.275 --> 00:44:35.476
Heh.
00:44:38.476 --> 00:44:44.286
What I thought, I don't know why, the first thing that came to my mind when you said bodily functions was to go to the bathroom, I don't know.
00:44:45.420 --> 00:44:51.891
I mean, I guess it is the first thing that comes to mind for me as well, some people also speculate if this will be Violet's second signet.
00:44:51.911 --> 00:44:56.610
And I can see the reasoning here since Violet is someone who needs knowledge and she needs the truth.
00:44:57.130 --> 00:44:59.820
That could definitely be a signet that reflects who she is at her core.
00:45:00.050 --> 00:45:05.121
So we will dig into this a little bit as our Iron Flame episodes continue.
00:45:05.121 --> 00:45:10.231
And we may even have a Violet's second signet theories.
00:45:10.260 --> 00:45:13.291
So stay tuned, we may get into the truth sing theory.
00:45:13.771 --> 00:45:17.201
underwater breathing, pretty self explanatory, and this is heat and signet.
00:45:17.400 --> 00:45:19.150
seems pretty useless, I'm not gonna lie.
00:45:21.351 --> 00:45:23.201
When would, when would they ever use this?
00:45:23.550 --> 00:45:23.931
I don't know.
00:45:25.065 --> 00:45:25.295
I don't know.
00:45:25.306 --> 00:45:26.096
It's very lame.
00:45:26.516 --> 00:45:27.106
It's very lame.
00:45:27.115 --> 00:45:27.516
Yeah.
00:45:28.735 --> 00:45:36.085
Okay, Ward Weaver Signet is something Nadine had before she died, and it's the ability to unweave wards and possibly do more.
00:45:36.106 --> 00:45:40.286
We really don't know much about it, but we know she's dead now, so maybe it won't matter.
00:45:40.295 --> 00:45:40.655
That really sucks.
00:45:40.865 --> 00:45:41.746
And weakness.
00:45:41.746 --> 00:45:42.025
We need her.
00:45:42.306 --> 00:45:42.956
I know.
00:45:43.496 --> 00:45:44.945
She's like, I am Violet.
00:45:45.246 --> 00:45:45.885
Bam, you're dead.
00:45:48.106 --> 00:45:49.960
Bad time to die.
00:45:50.590 --> 00:45:51.760
Commit identity theft.
00:45:51.760 --> 00:45:57.471
Anyways, weakness detection is Burton Ish's, signe and God, his name sucks.
00:45:57.740 --> 00:46:14.271
Burton bur butt, Burt Face, buttface Burton Verish, or as I like call him major pain in my ass, He has the signe that has the ability to look at someone with their mental shields down and find out what their greatest weaknesses.
00:46:14.661 --> 00:46:19.010
And this is a very insidious signe and it's makes sense considering he's known for.
00:46:19.235 --> 00:46:20.476
interrogations and torture.
00:46:21.755 --> 00:46:25.295
Next we're going to mention characters with unknown signets at this point.
00:46:25.346 --> 00:46:27.646
So some of them are more important than others.
00:46:27.675 --> 00:46:31.356
Caroline Ashton, we don't know her signet and she's Jack's bestie.
00:46:31.806 --> 00:46:34.146
Colonel Atos, we also don't know his signet.
00:46:34.525 --> 00:46:36.385
Garrick Tavis, we don't know his signet.
00:46:36.416 --> 00:46:38.556
I feel like that's kind of pointed, like what is it?
00:46:38.800 --> 00:46:40.460
Because he's pretty important to our story.
00:46:40.831 --> 00:46:46.190
We don't know Professor Devera, Professor Amaterios, or Professor Grady's signet as well.
00:46:46.190 --> 00:46:48.121
I'm not sure if they're going to be important in the future.
00:46:48.411 --> 00:46:51.670
And then obviously, Violet Sorengale, we do not know her second signet.
00:46:51.670 --> 00:46:53.570
And boy oh boy, I cannot wait to talk about this.
00:46:54.141 --> 00:46:55.030
And we will very soon.
00:46:55.411 --> 00:46:58.061
Surprisingly, not in this episode, but probably next one.
00:46:58.210 --> 00:46:58.471
Yeah.
00:46:59.621 --> 00:47:06.541
And then lastly, so key characters awaiting manifestation of a signet is Arc Greycastle, King Tari's son.
00:47:06.860 --> 00:47:16.291
this is especially notable since he will likely have some role to play in the upcoming plot since he is a member of Navarre royalty and someone that actually believes in the revolution and hates what his father is doing.
00:47:16.291 --> 00:47:20.610
And his connection to Violet will make him a reoccurring character unless he dies, obviously.
00:47:20.670 --> 00:47:24.811
And I am thinking he will likely manifest a really strong and significant signate.
00:47:25.391 --> 00:47:29.771
Later on in these episodes, I do wanna talk about theories on what his signate may be.
00:47:29.771 --> 00:47:38.621
And I actually have an idea that it could be a distance wielder because distance wielding has been mentioned a few times and we don't know anyone else that has a signe.
00:47:38.896 --> 00:47:59.965
00:47:59.965 --> 00:48:00.365
Same.
00:48:01.706 --> 00:48:02.315
Yeah.
00:48:03.365 --> 00:48:04.835
All right, moving on.
00:48:05.275 --> 00:48:10.425
Time to head to the flight field where every week Kenna and I will do two to three mini series unique to our podcast.
00:48:10.485 --> 00:48:11.646
They won't be the same every week.
00:48:11.646 --> 00:48:13.255
So keep tuning in for all the fun.
00:48:13.675 --> 00:48:18.896
Today we're going to talk about Zayden and Violet's character development and we're going to talk about Zodiac signs.
00:48:20.056 --> 00:48:20.436
Yes.
00:48:21.445 --> 00:48:21.795
Yeah.
00:48:23.396 --> 00:48:23.925
All right.
00:48:24.056 --> 00:48:30.476
I am going to talk about Violet's character development from where we started this and where we are now.
00:48:30.806 --> 00:48:38.175
And I really just love, especially on a reread, seeing our FMC embrace the growth she has made over the past week because it is a lot.
00:48:38.735 --> 00:48:48.846
And one quote that stuck with me, really early in Iron Flame, quote, each head in the room turns toward us and I fight the instinct to retreat as almost every set of eyes narrows on me.
00:48:49.141 --> 00:48:49.860
Who do they see?
00:48:49.891 --> 00:48:51.661
Lilith's daughter or Brennan's sister?
00:48:51.931 --> 00:48:54.840
I lift my chin because I'm both and I feel like neither.
00:48:55.170 --> 00:49:03.550
This really sums up her coming into her own identity even though she's not all the way there yet, but she's so much more confident than she was a year ago.
00:49:03.601 --> 00:49:10.451
And I just feel like this quote really captures how much she's grown and how much she's changed from what she went across the parapet.
00:49:11.070 --> 00:49:16.860
And her growth is shown in ways like how she sets boundaries for Dane now and, you know.
00:49:17.070 --> 00:49:23.760
Handles his ass and she also has confidence in speaking up to authority, like the council.
00:49:23.780 --> 00:49:27.550
She wasn't afraid to go in there and be like, try speaking to me, not about me.
00:49:27.911 --> 00:49:30.791
And then Barish and Ato, she's not afraid to snap back at them.
00:49:30.800 --> 00:49:34.710
of course she's respectful still, but she's confident to correct them sometimes.
00:49:34.721 --> 00:49:35.621
And I just love that.
00:49:36.030 --> 00:49:39.271
And she's also confident enough now to tell selective truth.
00:49:39.271 --> 00:49:51.411
She stood up in front of the entire Formation at graduation ceremony and just boss that shit and she's also just really unfazed by danger Well, she still is retaining her compassionate side.
00:49:51.411 --> 00:50:05.400
I just really love how she didn't lose parts of who she is like her compassion But she is just a completely different person than she was from book one And in book one she viewed herself as weak and tried to stay under the radar and now it's just complete opposite.
00:50:05.402 --> 00:50:07.735
Zayden.
00:50:07.735 --> 00:50:13.231
Well, our MMC's growth is not as prominent.
00:50:13.240 --> 00:50:15.650
There's definitely some things they want to acknowledge.
00:50:16.161 --> 00:50:19.246
I think it took a lot for him to let down his emotional boundaries.
00:50:19.255 --> 00:50:34.036
Throughout fourth wing and allow for a loss of control at times and knowing everything we know about him and the years of hardship and secrets and mistrust and resentment that he's been harboring him, being able to let Violet in and trust her as much as he can.
00:50:34.666 --> 00:50:35.925
It speaks volumes.
00:50:35.956 --> 00:50:46.315
And the keystone of his growth is letting grow of his iron grip on his resentment and his control of everything around him, which I'm sure was very scary to him since he's probably been.
00:50:46.561 --> 00:50:58.251
The Zayden we initially met in book one for years and years, I do think being with Violet is making him embrace a more compassionate side, but at the end of the day I think he will always still be the ruthless shadow daddy we know and love.
00:50:58.570 --> 00:50:59.030
Yes.
00:50:59.771 --> 00:51:06.621
Oh, I want to start with Zayden, just because I want to save Violet for last because she's a little bit more.
00:51:07.661 --> 00:51:16.721
Yeah, so we know, like Kenneth said at first, Zayden came off as very mysterious and controlled and over time this has changed drastically.
00:51:16.971 --> 00:51:19.971
And I do think that Violet played a huge role in his development too.
00:51:19.981 --> 00:51:23.661
And I love that our, FMC is almost the sole reason that our FMC is here.
00:51:23.762 --> 00:51:31.461
MMC has even had character development because with Violet, he would just be this boring, mysterious guy that doesn't talk and have all these secrets.
00:51:31.461 --> 00:51:32.461
And we would, yeah.
00:51:33.532 --> 00:51:41.711
But, we know that he was a man of many secrets and it was really hard to understand him at first, but the more Violet interacted with him, the more glimpses of his character we got.
00:51:41.731 --> 00:51:44.351
And he went from dark and broody to light and sexy.
00:51:44.402 --> 00:51:47.871
And like Kena said, he really has started to lose his grip on his control.
00:51:47.871 --> 00:51:48.771
Especially around Violet.
00:51:50.132 --> 00:51:52.322
Now, Violet Sorengale.
00:51:52.847 --> 00:51:56.847
Though I love dual POV and I really wish that we can get Zayden's point of view.
00:51:56.896 --> 00:51:59.577
I also love the fact that this book is only Violet's point of view.
00:51:59.577 --> 00:52:01.876
And I think this makes her development a lot more personal.
00:52:02.126 --> 00:52:09.047
from chapter one of fourth wing, we heard what people thought about her, ability to survive, over and over and over again, she was viewed as weak and fragile.
00:52:09.407 --> 00:52:15.626
And she even started to believe that herself, but the more she achieved within the quadrant, the more she started to believe in herself and became more confident.
00:52:15.806 --> 00:52:19.806
And I love this because she never let herself down or the worst of others.
00:52:19.952 --> 00:52:21.891
overpower her will or influence her to quit.
00:52:22.211 --> 00:52:26.061
And if anything, this was encouragement for her to keep pushing and prove everybody wrong.
00:52:26.072 --> 00:52:33.052
I think this was very personal, especially for me, because I feel like other people doubt me, it just makes me want to go 10 times harder, like prove them wrong.
00:52:33.612 --> 00:52:34.012
All right.
00:52:34.092 --> 00:52:39.771
So next we're going to get into the Zodiac and what astrology signs that we think our characters are.
00:52:39.922 --> 00:52:44.972
And you're going to be hating on me in about two minutes, but just remember, I love you.
00:52:45.282 --> 00:52:45.771
I love you too.
00:52:47.942 --> 00:52:48.262
okay.
00:52:48.271 --> 00:52:55.652
Violet, I think is a Cancer and this is cheating a little because the books actually tells us this is what correlates to her birthday.
00:52:55.681 --> 00:52:56.302
And.
00:52:56.532 --> 00:53:03.351
You know, it's cheating, I guess, but if the boot fits, so she loves super hard and is very protective of those she loves.
00:53:03.472 --> 00:53:05.322
And that's a keystone of cancer.
00:53:05.322 --> 00:53:06.342
So it fits.
00:53:06.692 --> 00:53:09.942
I desperately wanted her to be a Virgo like me, but sadly, no.
00:53:09.952 --> 00:53:15.452
Although I do feel like the intellect associated with Virgos is definitely a fit for her and the need for knowledge.
00:53:15.961 --> 00:53:17.811
Zayden, I think is a Scorpio.
00:53:18.036 --> 00:53:19.547
Yeah, this man is not a Pisces.
00:53:19.577 --> 00:53:22.376
That's what his sign would be according to his birthday in the book.
00:53:22.467 --> 00:53:24.516
But that's, no, absolutely not.
00:53:24.976 --> 00:53:25.717
He's passionate.
00:53:26.016 --> 00:53:26.887
Very, very passionate.
00:53:28.896 --> 00:53:32.867
He's mysterious, loyal to who he loves, intuitive and strategic.
00:53:33.047 --> 00:53:33.336
Yep.
00:53:33.617 --> 00:53:34.766
That sums up our wing leader.
00:53:35.367 --> 00:53:38.907
Now Dane I think he's a Capricorn.
00:53:39.856 --> 00:53:40.606
I'm laughing.
00:53:40.606 --> 00:53:41.847
Which is Mackenzie's sign.
00:53:41.856 --> 00:53:43.987
I'm laughing because I put him as a Virgo.
00:53:48.197 --> 00:53:49.586
It was so unintentional.
00:53:49.586 --> 00:53:53.157
I didn't even make the connection until you just said you were a Virgo.
00:53:53.157 --> 00:53:58.007
I was literally researching Zodiac and I was like nothing fits except for Capricorn or Dane.
00:53:58.027 --> 00:53:58.356
Okay?
00:54:00.512 --> 00:54:03.452
But anyways, yeah, don't kill me, but I think he's a Capricorn.
00:54:04.032 --> 00:54:07.871
So, some stereotypes associated with Capricorns led me to believe this.
00:54:07.871 --> 00:54:11.351
He's very firm in what he believes and struggles when the right thing isn't clear.
00:54:11.641 --> 00:54:18.362
He's practical, a control freak, and ambitious, which are all, again, traits associated with male Capricorns.
00:54:18.681 --> 00:54:21.021
And he really values his work ethic, so yeah.
00:54:22.012 --> 00:54:22.351
Yeah.
00:54:22.777 --> 00:54:23.347
I'm sorry, buddy.
00:54:25.737 --> 00:54:27.447
Rhiannon, I think is a Taurus.
00:54:27.487 --> 00:54:31.177
She is super grounded and emotionally even throughout the books.
00:54:31.527 --> 00:54:36.297
And that makes her a very dependable and consistent friend for Violet, who definitely needs that in her life.
00:54:36.626 --> 00:54:42.666
And she's also just an independent woman who don't need no man or woman in her case, but I feel like Taurus fits her perfectly.
00:54:43.157 --> 00:54:46.786
And Riddick, I had to choose a sign for one of my favorite comedians.
00:54:48.036 --> 00:54:50.206
And I chose Gemini and.
00:54:50.652 --> 00:55:00.802
I chose this because of traits associated with male Geminis, that he's social, quick witted, charming, and playful, and we know Riddick never takes anything serious, and he's always making everyone laugh, so.
00:55:01.271 --> 00:55:01.601
Yes.
00:55:01.672 --> 00:55:01.911
Yes.
00:55:01.931 --> 00:55:02.652
King Slayer.
00:55:03.501 --> 00:55:03.992
All right.
00:55:04.532 --> 00:55:08.311
I actually found some very interesting things during like my research.
00:55:08.371 --> 00:55:13.641
I feel like I learn something new every time we do this because I don't know a lot about astrological signs, but I learn new things.
00:55:13.952 --> 00:55:18.902
So I think that Zayden is an Aries, cause like Kanan said, I don't think that he was a Pisces.
00:55:19.452 --> 00:55:20.362
I didn't think he was a Pisces.
00:55:20.362 --> 00:55:21.842
So I looked up the dates for end of March and it.
00:55:22.202 --> 00:55:35.742
Correlates with Aries and Aries are fire signs and they're naturally playful, which I think Zayden, like once he let's go and he, drops those barriers, he is naturally playful and he's always smirking and yeah, he's very adventurous.
00:55:35.742 --> 00:55:37.041
I don't think he's going to venture at all.
00:55:37.041 --> 00:55:38.931
Like he's really running headfirst into a fire.
00:55:39.172 --> 00:55:39.751
It's just like, okay.
00:55:40.121 --> 00:55:41.911
He has a, they have bad tempers.
00:55:42.166 --> 00:55:48.317
Which I also feel like Zayden killing half a dozen people with the snap of a finger because they're trying to get to his girl.
00:55:48.327 --> 00:55:49.376
It's just proof of that.
00:55:50.496 --> 00:55:54.567
They're very passionate and very forward in the bedroom, which we all know is Zayden.
00:55:54.567 --> 00:55:57.266
True dat.
00:55:58.197 --> 00:55:59.516
Or in the throne room.
00:56:00.402 --> 00:56:11.322
Yeah, and interestingly enough, Onyx is one of the Aries crystals, which I found very interesting.
00:56:11.422 --> 00:56:12.242
I did not know that.
00:56:12.422 --> 00:56:12.802
That's cool.
00:56:13.161 --> 00:56:16.172
And the Emperor is one of their tarot cards.
00:56:18.072 --> 00:56:21.617
Well, he's basically the Emperor of Arisha.
00:56:21.617 --> 00:56:23.552
All right.
00:56:23.581 --> 00:56:25.322
Now, Violet, I think she's a Cancer.
00:56:25.322 --> 00:56:28.592
And I agree with Kena, and I'm also cheating, because the book literally tells us.
00:56:29.501 --> 00:56:31.981
But during my research, I found something interesting.
00:56:31.992 --> 00:56:34.831
Cancers in Aries are actually incompatible.
00:56:34.911 --> 00:56:37.811
And Aries often hurt Cancers with their natural traits.
00:56:38.422 --> 00:56:39.331
Hmmmm.
00:56:40.222 --> 00:56:47.260
Ha ha ha! Their incompatibility could also be why Zayden often repeats that Violet would be the death to him throughout the book.
00:56:47.751 --> 00:56:48.701
Very interesting.
00:56:48.710 --> 00:56:54.260
And if Rebecca based these also off of their astrological signs, that'd be so cool.
00:56:54.391 --> 00:56:55.650
That they fit so well.
00:56:55.652 --> 00:56:59.911
maybe she's really into astrology because she does mention their birthdays specifically.
00:56:59.961 --> 00:57:00.431
Yeah.
00:57:00.817 --> 00:57:05.507
I literally feel like in no book have we really gotten a specific birthday.
00:57:05.567 --> 00:57:10.027
Like I know we'll have some times where like, oh it's my birthday, but I don't think we ever get the month or the date.
00:57:10.666 --> 00:57:13.967
And we all know that Rebecca Yarrow writes with intention.
00:57:14.356 --> 00:57:17.137
I think that her highlighting these months is really important.
00:57:17.146 --> 00:57:20.536
And the fact that these lined up so perfectly, it's just kind of weird.
00:57:20.947 --> 00:57:21.487
I don't know.
00:57:21.516 --> 00:57:22.177
It's interesting.
00:57:22.507 --> 00:57:22.717
Yeah.
00:57:22.717 --> 00:57:27.666
So Rhiannon, I also agree with Kanan on Rhiannon.
00:57:27.887 --> 00:57:28.927
My sister is a Taurus.
00:57:28.967 --> 00:57:33.336
And if my sister could be related to any character in this book, it would definitely be Rhiannon.
00:57:33.336 --> 00:57:34.106
they have the same.
00:57:34.106 --> 00:57:36.297
Personalities, but yeah, I definitely agree with Cain on that one.
00:57:36.297 --> 00:57:37.597
So I don't need to elaborate.
00:57:38.036 --> 00:57:43.646
Dane, unintentionally, I put him as a Virgo, not thinking of Cain as a Zodiac sign.
00:57:45.436 --> 00:57:50.887
I love how we gave each other, we both put Dane as each other's Zodiac signs.
00:57:51.117 --> 00:57:56.257
Well, Virgos and Capricorns have similar personality traits, which is probably why we're besties.
00:57:57.356 --> 00:57:58.356
Oh, well, there you go.
00:57:58.396 --> 00:57:59.226
There's a bright side to everything.
00:58:01.161 --> 00:58:03.601
Virgos are also very hardworking.
00:58:03.612 --> 00:58:07.141
They play a very close attention to detail and they're very careful about what they do.
00:58:07.141 --> 00:58:10.442
And this could be why Dane has the thing that he's, that he has.
00:58:10.922 --> 00:58:19.802
his attention to detail could be why he can see people's memories and get certain details and be a war weapon in interrogation.
00:58:20.101 --> 00:58:24.862
there are natural leaders and very organized and tend to get stuck in the details, wanting everything to be perfect.
00:58:24.862 --> 00:58:25.021
Dyschordic.
00:58:26.081 --> 00:58:27.521
Codex Levin son of a gun.
00:58:27.552 --> 00:58:29.422
This is probably why he's like that.
00:58:30.012 --> 00:58:33.211
And then one of their flaws is their ability to be over considerate.
00:58:33.492 --> 00:58:38.681
Hmm, probably his constant dragging in the mud with Violet.
00:58:38.911 --> 00:58:41.552
With him trying to protect her, quote unquote.
00:58:42.172 --> 00:58:43.931
Well, I definitely see why you would put Dane as a Virgo.
00:58:43.931 --> 00:58:44.811
I feel like that makes sense.
00:58:44.911 --> 00:58:51.391
And I can't confirm all those are Virgo traits because it's very much me, even though I don't like that I'm putting me and Dane in the same box.
00:58:51.972 --> 00:58:54.041
I promise I was not taking a view when I wrote this.
00:58:55.552 --> 00:58:57.561
He's definitely the worst type of Virgo.
00:58:57.711 --> 00:58:58.371
Yeah, he is.
00:58:58.422 --> 00:59:06.112
I feel like everybody's different and yes, we all have the same general personality traits when it comes to the astrological signs.
00:59:06.461 --> 00:59:09.851
but I feel like it's how their character builds off those character traits.
00:59:10.201 --> 00:59:15.971
So I don't think that just because you think he's a Capricorn, I think he's a Virgo that that's like exactly how we are.
00:59:15.971 --> 00:59:22.110
Cause we're different types of Capricorns and we're also female and female and male signs are totally different.
00:59:22.581 --> 00:59:23.811
They're a little bit more aggressive.
00:59:25.121 --> 00:59:32.760
I definitely, that helped me when I was trying to figure out who's, who was what sign as I started looking up female and male Differences between each side.
00:59:32.760 --> 00:59:34.570
I was like, okay, that makes me feel better.
00:59:35.891 --> 00:59:38.641
That's why I emphasize these are male Capricorn traits.
00:59:39.530 --> 00:59:43.920
And lastly, I'm going to talk about Liam because he's one of my favorite side characters.
00:59:44.190 --> 00:59:48.210
I think that he's a Sagittarius because Liam is very easygoing, but also funny.
00:59:48.431 --> 00:59:52.670
I feel like he was more so like a playboy, even though he was phalangistinian, he never really made his move.
00:59:52.670 --> 00:59:53.780
He was just like flirting with her.
00:59:53.780 --> 00:59:55.641
And I feel like that's kind of Sagittarius too.
00:59:56.001 --> 00:59:58.231
And sometimes they can promise more than they can deliver.
00:59:59.231 --> 01:00:00.141
And they are very generous.
01:00:02.800 --> 01:00:06.005
Are you talking about like he promised to protect Violet forever and then he was like, and then he died.
01:00:06.010 --> 01:00:06.420
Come do.
01:00:06.420 --> 01:00:06.701
Yeah.
01:00:08.371 --> 01:00:08.661
Damn.
01:00:08.661 --> 01:00:10.036
You're a little over ambitious there.
01:00:11.246 --> 01:00:12.565
Calling out a dead man, bro.
01:00:12.985 --> 01:00:13.496
I'm sorry.
01:00:13.496 --> 01:00:14.456
It was the perfect setup.
01:00:15.936 --> 01:00:16.356
It was.
01:00:17.076 --> 01:00:18.036
I would've done the same thing.
01:00:18.346 --> 01:00:20.715
Before we close our episode today, it's time to spar.
01:00:20.746 --> 01:00:24.246
Each week, Mackenzie and I will give each other and our listeners two trivia questions.
01:00:24.246 --> 01:00:27.835
At the end of our Iron Flame coverage, we will tally up who has the most points between hosts.
01:00:28.166 --> 01:00:32.135
Loser will have to do something embarrassing or funny that the winner or you guys fans come up with.
01:00:32.146 --> 01:00:35.545
So please let us know your feedback, ideas, and participation in the section.
01:00:36.025 --> 01:00:38.005
And go check out our social media today.
01:00:38.005 --> 01:00:43.221
We will be posting the challenge for whoever lost fourth wing trial by trivia.
01:00:43.621 --> 01:00:47.811
We actually haven't finished filming the last half of that episode, weirdly, because my computer glitched.
01:00:47.820 --> 01:00:53.481
So we actually don't know who won yet, but we will be posting whoever lost and their consequence and it should be pretty iconic.
01:00:53.681 --> 01:00:56.090
So go look at our social media at shadow and starlight pods.
01:00:56.090 --> 01:00:56.621
All right.
01:00:56.920 --> 01:00:58.521
My first question is.
01:00:59.266 --> 01:01:05.755
How many years ago did the first six in Dragons come together to protect their people from Benin 600?
01:01:06.025 --> 01:01:09.195
Yeah, I kind of figured you would get that one because it was in your, synopsis.
01:01:12.311 --> 01:01:12.601
Okay.
01:01:13.101 --> 01:01:14.085
You scroll up, Brad.
01:01:14.175 --> 01:01:14.536
Yeah.
01:01:15.615 --> 01:01:16.635
Can't be too careful with you.
01:01:17.311 --> 01:01:17.590
What?
01:01:17.661 --> 01:01:18.061
Alright.
01:01:18.070 --> 01:01:27.101
How many How many prisoners died during Barish's interrogations before he was eventually reassigned to Bazgaya?
01:01:27.260 --> 01:01:27.880
Three.
01:01:29.150 --> 01:01:29.661
Yes.
01:01:29.731 --> 01:01:30.110
Damn.
01:01:30.311 --> 01:01:30.650
Okay.
01:01:30.771 --> 01:01:31.181
I see you.
01:01:31.590 --> 01:01:33.831
I only know that because I almost made that one of your questions.
01:01:34.710 --> 01:01:35.201
Damn.
01:01:36.201 --> 01:01:36.601
Shit.
01:01:38.331 --> 01:01:40.371
I feel like my next question is easy too, goddammit.
01:01:40.530 --> 01:01:42.150
I feel like my question is probably easy.
01:01:42.181 --> 01:01:42.550
Okay.
01:01:42.621 --> 01:01:46.460
How many votes does the assembly need to make a decision?
01:01:46.461 --> 01:01:52.771
Either four or five.
01:01:54.561 --> 01:01:55.150
Pick one, bro.
01:01:58.251 --> 01:01:59.681
Three to five is my final answer.
01:02:00.871 --> 01:02:02.110
Pick one, it's not three.
01:02:02.911 --> 01:02:03.751
Definitely not three.
01:02:06.130 --> 01:02:06.690
Five.
01:02:08.311 --> 01:02:10.130
Yes! Oh my god, I almost went with four.
01:02:10.201 --> 01:02:10.860
That was close.
01:02:12.481 --> 01:02:16.311
All right, who on the Oration Council has a streak of silver hair?
01:02:16.981 --> 01:02:17.530
Searing.
01:02:18.751 --> 01:02:22.391
I almost made that your question too, but I remember that you were good with names.
01:02:22.391 --> 01:02:23.871
I was like, nah, she's not gonna get that.
01:02:24.655 --> 01:02:26.065
Wow, we just killed that.
01:02:26.065 --> 01:02:29.925
Okay, so this usually never happens, but we both got them right.
01:02:31.115 --> 01:02:33.726
And it's currently tied two to two.
01:02:33.856 --> 01:02:37.885
So yeah, it's gonna be a very exciting trial by trivia for this book.
01:02:38.016 --> 01:02:38.965
So stay tuned.
01:02:39.036 --> 01:02:45.710
I feel like you also messed yourself up too, because We both listened to the dramaticized version while I was there.
01:02:45.940 --> 01:02:47.771
So I was like listening to different things.
01:02:47.771 --> 01:02:49.862
Oh yeah, I literally brought up the silver hair.
01:02:49.862 --> 01:02:50.422
God damn it.
01:02:53.132 --> 01:02:54.382
I need to think this through.
01:02:54.661 --> 01:02:56.251
All right, that's a wrap, folks.
01:02:56.251 --> 01:02:59.641
Thank you so much for tuning in to our coverage of Iron Flame by Rebecca Yaros.
01:02:59.681 --> 01:03:04.556

01:03:05.255 --> 01:03:14.905
Join us next Thursday as we continue our iron flame coverage where we will be covering where we've been going over a chapter 16 through 29 pages 149 through 271.
01:03:15.206 --> 01:03:15.925
Big boy.
01:03:16.206 --> 01:03:18.286
We are reread or it's a refresher memory.
01:03:18.931 --> 01:03:22.351
Yeah, this book is fat.
01:03:22.981 --> 01:03:29.340
I'm wondering how many pages Onyx Storm is going to be because we may need to do six or seven episodes just because there's going to be so much.
01:03:29.411 --> 01:03:30.190
But we'll see.
01:03:30.690 --> 01:03:31.061
All right.
01:03:31.181 --> 01:03:33.860
so yeah, it really does mean the world to us to hear your feedback.
01:03:33.860 --> 01:03:36.490
So please take the time to leave us a review.

01:03:43.021 --> 01:03:43.721
We will love to.

See you next week.
01:03:53.561 --> 01:03:54.141
Bye friends.
01:03:54.150 --> 01:03:54.860
See you next week.
