INFORMAZIONI SU QUESTO EPISODIO
In this compelling twenty-fifth installment of our Jack Ruby miniseries, we step inside Apartment 207 at the Marsalis Place Apartments on South Ewing Street during the turbulent afternoon and evening of Sunday, November 24, 1963. Hours after Jack Ruby executed Lee Harvey Oswald live on national television, Dallas detectives searched the residence under warrant, discovering over $3,100 in cash scattered between bedroom cloth sacks, living room closets, Ruby's pockets, and his white Oldsmobile trunk, along with an address book and personal papers. But the true mystery begins after police locked the doors: a secret, unrecorded Sunday night meeting took place inside the apartment while Ruby sat in a cell across town. Roommate George Senator gathered with defense attorneys Tom Howard, C.A. Droby, and Jim Martin, alongside newsmen Bill Hunter, Jim Koethe, and photographer Bill Allen—a gathering that was kept completely hidden from the Warren Commission.
We analyze the conflicting accounts of this clandestine gathering and unravel the bizarre thread of events that followed in its wake. We examine the Warren Commission's frantic investigation into rumors that Ruby was seen outside police headquarters early Sunday morning wearing a greyish topcoat—a detail that, if true, would completely shatter his defense alibi that he overslept until 10:00 a.m. and acted on a sudden, spontaneous impulse. We also track George Senator's baffling financial transition: from an unemployed 50-year-old postcard salesman sleeping on a lawyer's couch and trying to sell Ruby's clothes for quick cash, to living in midtown Manhattan hotels six months later without a job, raising unanswered questions about who funded his post-assassination lifestyle.
Finally, we confront the chilling pattern of tragedy that stalked the men who entered Apartment 207 that Sunday night. Within eighteen months of the meeting, three of its key participants were dead under unusual or violent circumstances: reporter Bill Hunter was shot through the heart inside a Long Beach police press room, reporter Jim Koethe was killed in his Dallas apartment by a fatal blow to the throat, and attorney Tom Howard died of a sudden, unautopsied heart attack at age 48. We explore whether this secret gathering represented an innocent attempt to negotiate news stories and legal strategy, or a high-stakes effort to manage sensitive intelligence before the narrative locked into place.
