INFORMAZIONI SU QUESTO EPISODIO
The Medicare Access and CHIP Reauthorization Act of 2015 (MACRA) ended the Sustainable
Growth Rate formula, which threatened clinicians participating in Medicare with potential
payment “cliffs” for 13 years. If you participate in Medicare Part B, the Quality Payment
Program will provide new tools and resources to help you report on the quality of care you
provide to your Medicare patients.
You can choose how you want to participate based on your practice size, specialty, location, or
patient population. The Quality Payment Program has two tracks you can choose: Advanced
Alternative Payment Models (APMs) or The Merit-based Incentive Payment System (MIPS).
If you decide to participate in an Advanced APM, through Medicare Part B, you may earn an
incentive payment for participating in an innovative advanced payment model. If you decide to
participate in MIPS, you will earn a performance-based payment adjustment. Depending on
the data you submit for the 2018 performance year, your 2020 Medicare payments will be
adjusted up, down, or not at all.
Dr. Richard Wild is the chief medical officer for the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid
Services Region Four, which includes Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Mississippi and
South Carolina. It is worth noting that Dr. Wild has 30 years of experience as a practicing
emergency physician – ranging from small rural hospitals in Georgia to large university
teaching centers.
Go to www.QPP.cms.gov for details on the Medicare QPP program, including frequent
updates, fact sheets, and frequently asked questions, etc.
Contact the Medicare Quality Payment Program Service Center at 866-288- 8292 (TTY 877-
715-6222) or QPP@cms.hhs.gov.
