TRASCRIZIONE 🔗
00:00:00.560 --> 00:00:07.599
A deep change in the way that we live requires a deep change in the way that we think.
00:00:07.759 --> 00:00:11.359
I'm Carla Reeves, and this is Differently.
00:00:12.480 --> 00:00:16.320
Do you have any suggestions for making journaling quicker?
00:00:16.559 --> 00:00:20.480
I want to journal, but I just keep running out of time.
00:00:21.039 --> 00:00:32.079
That's what a client asked me this week, and my first reaction was to challenge her to make the space because this is the very thing that she needs.
00:00:32.320 --> 00:00:37.520
But instead, I gave her a method for quick journaling and it worked.
00:00:37.679 --> 00:00:45.039
It allowed her to ease her mind, to slow down long enough to make space to do the thing.
00:00:45.280 --> 00:00:47.280
And I want to share this with you too.
00:00:47.520 --> 00:00:58.479
At the end of the exercises that I gave her, there was a reflection on the last day, which was to kind of go back over those journals, reflect on what you saw.
00:00:58.640 --> 00:01:06.879
And at the end of the week, she responded to the exercise with loved, loved, loved in all capital letters.
00:01:07.120 --> 00:01:15.920
And what she noticed was worry, stress, that she felt pressed for time, that she felt chaos and uncertainty and so many questions.
00:01:16.159 --> 00:01:26.480
And what she recognized also was that all of the above thoughts that were spinning in her head do not elevate her mood at all, that it depresses it.
00:01:26.719 --> 00:01:42.879
And as she went on through the week, she was able to loosen all the stress in her mind, the noise and the spinning to actually see some of the root issues that needed to be taken care of to move things forward in her life.
00:01:43.040 --> 00:01:45.439
And that, my friends, is the power of writing.
00:01:45.599 --> 00:01:47.040
I see it all the time.
00:01:47.280 --> 00:01:55.680
And today I want to give you a strategy that your overthinking mind and your ambitious self is going to love.
00:01:55.920 --> 00:02:02.480
As high and hyper achievers and doers, the thing we resist the most is slowing down.
00:02:02.640 --> 00:02:11.360
And it's the very thing that we often need to actually speed things up in the meaningful way that we desire.
00:02:11.599 --> 00:02:19.680
What I know for sure after a decade of coaching with a journal is that when we make space to write, we always feel better.
00:02:19.919 --> 00:02:21.520
We're always glad we did.
00:02:21.599 --> 00:02:22.960
We don't ever regret it.
00:02:23.120 --> 00:02:26.879
And we often wonder why we don't make the time more often.
00:02:27.039 --> 00:02:28.960
And it's because of the mind.
00:02:29.280 --> 00:02:31.280
I get it, I get it so much.
00:02:31.439 --> 00:02:40.400
We're all have big dreams, we're juggling projects, we're raising families, and we're trying to squeeze productivity out of every minute.
00:02:40.639 --> 00:02:45.280
But here's the thing, and I want you to lean in close because this is important.
00:02:45.520 --> 00:02:53.599
What if I told you that the very reason you feel too busy to journal is exactly why you need it the most?
00:02:54.000 --> 00:02:58.479
And the mind lies to us with things like, I don't have time to journal.
00:02:58.639 --> 00:03:00.080
Journaling is boring.
00:03:00.400 --> 00:03:04.400
And the more we affirm this, the more it is true and becomes our reality.
00:03:04.560 --> 00:03:11.919
And then we don't actually stop to make the time that actually is going to be the most productive thing we can do.
00:03:12.159 --> 00:03:27.120
And here are some of the lies that keep us stuck, and they're so convincing, is because we're constantly in motion thinking that once we achieve X, Y, or Z is when we're going to find peace.
00:03:27.439 --> 00:03:34.719
We think that the pressure and the rush and the checking the items off the to-do list is going to get us somewhere.
00:03:34.960 --> 00:03:40.639
We're afraid that if we slow down, we're going to lose our edge or fall behind.
00:03:41.680 --> 00:03:47.680
And the truth is that peace comes when you create an interruption.
00:03:47.919 --> 00:03:50.319
And if you don't, guess what?
00:03:50.560 --> 00:03:51.439
Life will.
00:03:51.680 --> 00:03:59.680
So I want to give you a solution and a strategy today that your overachiever, overthinking mind is going to love.
00:04:00.080 --> 00:04:07.680
And here's why it especially works for overthinkers and doers is because it has a clear time boundary.
00:04:07.919 --> 00:04:12.639
It's short enough to feel doable so you can say goodbye to resistance.
00:04:12.800 --> 00:04:19.439
And it's long enough to actually create a meaningful pause in your day and create space for new revelation.
00:04:19.759 --> 00:04:25.199
Imagine that you have a dashboard with warning lights inside of you, just like your car.
00:04:25.759 --> 00:04:28.720
Are you listening to those indicators?
00:04:29.199 --> 00:04:35.439
And consider that journaling is the vehicle for actually slowing down to listen and pay attention.
00:04:35.759 --> 00:04:38.000
Your thoughts are the indicator lights.
00:04:38.160 --> 00:04:46.240
And when you journal even for just five minutes, you're taking an inventory of the thoughts that you're allowing to hang out in your mind.
00:04:46.399 --> 00:04:59.920
And they're going to give you clarity as to why you feel and are experiencing the things that you're experiencing and also give you the opportunity to take the reins back of your thoughts and redirect your life.
00:05:00.079 --> 00:05:06.480
And you're giving yourself a chance to spot these issues before they become emergencies.
00:05:06.800 --> 00:05:08.480
Okay, let's get to it.
00:05:08.720 --> 00:05:16.720
So if you're in a place you can grab a pen and paper now, this is gonna be your five-minute, five-day writing challenge.
00:05:16.959 --> 00:05:22.720
So set your timer for just five minutes and you're gonna explore these questions.
00:05:22.959 --> 00:05:26.800
Number one, what thoughts have been hanging out in your mind today?
00:05:27.279 --> 00:05:31.360
Number two, are you fixated on any one thing?
00:05:31.920 --> 00:05:41.199
Number three, how are these thoughts or this fixation impacting your mood, energy, and ability to take action?
00:05:41.680 --> 00:05:46.240
Number four, what caused your mood to change today?
00:05:46.720 --> 00:05:49.600
Who or what caused your mood to change today?
00:05:49.759 --> 00:05:56.319
And number five, what depleted your energy and what elevated your energy?
00:05:57.279 --> 00:06:04.480
Okay, those same five questions every day for five minutes, and then here's the bonus.
00:06:04.639 --> 00:06:10.560
And this is what my client did after the five days, go back and review those journals.
00:06:10.959 --> 00:06:22.160
Notice patterns, highlight words, notice how those things are impacting or influencing your life, your ability to make decisions, your ability to move forward right now.
00:06:22.560 --> 00:06:30.079
And if it's not moving in the direction you want, here are three bonus questions to turn yourself around.
00:06:30.319 --> 00:06:36.639
Number one, what do you want to feel or experience today or this week?
00:06:37.199 --> 00:06:44.079
Number two, how can you shift or elevate your thinking ever so slightly in that direction?
00:06:44.879 --> 00:06:58.800
And number three, what aligned action, what one aligned simple action can you take right now, today, that moves you in the direction of that feeling or experience?
00:06:59.040 --> 00:07:02.879
Remember, you don't have to love journaling or be a journaler.
00:07:02.959 --> 00:07:06.480
This isn't about journaling, it's about your life.
00:07:06.720 --> 00:07:17.120
Journaling isn't boring because you bring your life to it and you get to write your way through to what you want to experience and create more of in your life.
00:07:17.279 --> 00:07:19.439
Writing is just the vehicle.
00:07:19.680 --> 00:07:22.959
So take the five-minute, five-day challenge.
00:07:23.120 --> 00:07:34.399
Start tomorrow morning, or better yet, start right now, set that timer, and watch what happens when you give yourself the gift of a pause.
00:07:35.600 --> 00:07:38.639
Hey, thanks for listening all the way to the end.
00:07:38.800 --> 00:07:45.839
Before you move on with your day, pause and capture one thought or takeaway that stood out to you.
00:07:46.000 --> 00:07:49.199
Write it down so it doesn't get lost in the noise.
00:07:49.439 --> 00:08:00.959
And if you're ready to go deeper, come join me in my free monthly class, conversation and guided writing to help you see things differently and move forward with clarity.
